Jamie Winton

Mild-mannered bank manager mistaken for the cyber-terrorist White Horse, who was last seen with Jamie's missing wife of seven years. After news of the imminent comet impact is announced, Jamie decides to find his wife and his mysterious doppelganger.

Dave Bosley

Jamie's slacker flatmate. Has a bucket list and plans to enjoy the end of days. Sam to Jamie's Frodo.

Paula Winton

Jamie's mum.
  • Mama Bear: Do not mess with her Jamie, or you'll regret it.

Hawkwind "Layla" Winton

Jamie's wife.
  • Defecting for Love: Originally Ariel's girlfriend Hawkwind, she posed as Layla as part of Ariel's plan to mess Jamie's life. She ended up falling in love with him for real.
  • Mama Bear: She found out she was pregnant on their honeymoon, but left Jamie and went into hiding to protect both him and the baby from Ariel.

Frankie Winton

Jamie's and Layla's daughter.
  • Waif Prophet: After briefly dying in a car crash and coming back to life, she claims to hear a voice in her head that tells her things she would have no other way of knowing, i.e. that Celine is pregnant with Jude's baby.

Ariel Conroy

The White Horse.

Mary Conroy

Ariel's mother. And Jamie's biological mother. And Jude's old girlfriend.

Lady Sutton

Mother of Jude, Rhonda and Scotty. Rich. Killed her second husband and hid from the law. Has a bunker and a blood disease.


Father Jude Sutton

Vatican's bad boy, tasked with vetting potential Saints. Promoted to vetting potential Messiahs after the comet announcement.
  • Badass Preacher:
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Father Jude has his own approach to things, he smokes like a chimney, swears like a sailor and has a generally casual attitude but he is a devout priest with real faith in his God and a caring man.
  • Disappeared Dad: He had a fling with Mary in Slough when he was 18, before joining the priesthood.
  • He Knows Too Much: Is killed by the Vatican after protesting against their plan to announce a new fake Messiah, the second coming of Jesus.

Sister Celine Lenotti

A young nun who knows several languages and dreams of travel. Becomes Jude's new research assistant after the death of her mentor and friend, sister Sophia.
  • Crisis of Faith: After Jude dies.
  • Raised by Natives: Celine was taken in by the convent after being found homeless and penniless, and she joined the order later on.


Rhonda McNeil

Middle-class mom who took the fall for hacking into the NSA for her son. Broken out of prison by the White Horse after the comet announcement. Wants to rejoin her family before the comet hits.

Leanne Parkins

Leader of the neo-Nazi gang in Rhonda's prison. Stows away in the getaway car. Thelma to Rhonda's Louise.

Spike McNeil

Rhonda's son, custody of whom was given to his biological father, Tim.

Scotty McNeil

Rhonda's brother and sole member of the Special Situations Group - the government apocalypse response department. Nervous polymath.
  • Straight Gay
  • Badass Pacifist: Couldn't hurt a fly, but that doesn't stop him from taking down a terrorist and stepping in front of a bullet.

General Arnold Gaines

President's adviser on the apocalypse as well as the commanding officer on Project Savior and Mt Genesis. Confident jock. Scotty's husband.

US President Farrell

The only person Scotty and Gaines answer to. Philanderer obsessed with his media image.


Rhonda's husband, hospitalized for cancer.
