https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sora_otonashi.jpg
Voiced by: Koudai Sakai

You, the protagonist of the story, a second-year high school student who transferred to the school in Mihate Town. Has a dark past and has lost sight of life. He is actually Sora Otonashi, Yukino's younger brother.

  • Byronic Hero: A very brooding and withdrawn person, often observing life with a fatalistic viewpoint and a streak of nihilism, declaring that "none of it matters" and that praying to the gods is worthless. Despite this, he feels tremendous guilt over causing his sister's death and shows his softer side once he opens up to his Love Interest.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: He moved to Mihate after causing the death of his sister in a vehicle accident.
  • Death Seeker: While he's not actively seeking a way to off himself, he's not having much fun living either.
This messed up world— I wish this awful world would end.
  • Defrosting Ice King
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: He can be named whatever you like, but his real name is Sora Otonashi.
  • Heroic Mime: Up until the ending.
  • Took a Level in Cynic: The extreme backlash and abuse he received from causing his sister's death, in both real life and online, caused him to become hard-hearted and nihilistic.

     Maimi Kusunose

Voiced by: Hisako Tojo

Your cousin. She lives in the Mansion overlooking Mihate Town with you and is first met after coming home drunk from eating a whiskey bonbon and falling into your bed. Some time ago, you and her met at a family gathering at the Mansion when you were little kids. Maimi is strong-willed and doesn't like to give up. She gets high grades and is good at sports, being the top athlete in the tennis club after joining it two years ago. She is sloppy and tomboyish despite her looks. Kensuke calls her an "unfortunate woman" and "cute if she shuts up." She has a very low tolerance for alcohol, and gets drunk off the smallest amount.

She is also Hikaru Tsukioka, the talk show host of Mihate Town's local nighttime radio program, "Worldend Syndrome."

     Miu Amana
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/miu_amana.jpg
Voiced by: Shiori Izawa

One of your classmates. She has a part-time job at her brother's café. She does not express emotions outwardly, which makes her classmates find her unapproachable. She is always at the top of her class in terms of grades. She is the student body president as well as the manager of the Mystery Club. Conversely, she isn't good at sports and has bad rhythm, and can't even perform a simple festival dance. She lost her beloved grandmother last year. Has an older brother named Yamato.

     Rei Nikaido/Hanako Yamada

Voiced by: Ibuki Kido

A nerdy girl with thick glasses, she claims to live in a neighboring town. She's always wandering around town wearing a track suit. She is a tad ditzy, and tends to stutter when she speaks. When she gets nervous or excited she has a strange way of speaking. She loves ice cream, but can't eat it as much as she'd like to, for some reason. She never takes off her glasses.

She is actually Rei Nikaido, the lead singer in the nationally acclaimed idol group, Zettai Zetsumei Panda, and her nickname is Nikarei. After having expanded her career into acting, her stardom has skyrocketed, with a recent casting in the lead role of a movie. She is visiting Mihate Town for the summer while a movie is being filmed there.

     Saya Kamishiro
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saya_kamishiro.jpg
Voiced by: Mitsuki Nakae

The only daughter of the owner of the world-renowned snack food manufacturer, Kamishiro-dou. Her grades are always at the top of her class. She's a decent athlete, and even competed in national tennis tournaments during her junior high school days. She is strong-willed and quite prideful, but respects Maimi and Miu's seniority. She speaks her mind and so is constantly arguing with the equally strong-willed Kensuke. She always travels by car with her driver, the elusive Hattori, always at her side.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Calls Maimi "Lady Maimi."
  • Best Friend: Her and Rei, which makes her inability to recognize "Hanako" even more baffling.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Her naginata skill, which she uses to fight off your would-be attackers at the end of her route.
Mibu: I never thought those naginata lessons would come in handy.
  • Disappeared Dad: Her real father is never seen or mentioned.
  • Killed Off for Real: Along with the protagonist in her ending.
  • Not Blood Siblings: She ends up being not related to the rest of the Kamishiros by blood, but her father still loves her and is grooming her to be his heir over Mibu.
  • The Ojou
  • Rich Bitch: Has some of these traits (such as when it comes to food), but attends a normal high school and befriends the club members despite being of lower status than her.
  • Unknown Relative: Her and Rei are sisters, but they don't seem to be aware of their relationship to each other.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: Only 15, but acts much older.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yukino.jpg
Voiced by: Shizuka Itō

A 20-year old that works for a publishing company, and is visiting Mihate Town for research. She has a bright attitude and is always optimistic. She recently made her authorial debut after her first article was published in a magazine. She s curious about the mysteries occurring in Mihate Town, and has been running around town looking for clues. She is also an honorary member of the Mystery Club.

She is actually one of the yomibito along with Kaori, having died the previous summer in an auto accident.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kaori_yamashiro.jpg
Voiced by: Manami Numakura

She teaches social studies at Mihate High School, and her beauty attracts the gaze of all the male members of the student body. Kensuke calls her a succubus, given her blatant displays of adult charm. She established the Mystery Club, officially known as the Tribal Studies Research Club, to uncover the mysteries of the world. Her young adult romance novel, "Worldend", is based on Mihate Town's Yomibito legend, and it became a nationwide best-seller.

She is actually one of the yomibito along with Yukino, having been killed by Mibu earlier.

  • Hot for Teacher: Just look at her.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: The protagonist appeals to her to remember her love for Mibu so she can return to the dead peacefully, instead of being forced back by Yamato.
  • Irony: She wrote a book about the yomibito legend and ended up becoming part of it herself.
  • Killed Off for Real: She is sent back to the afterlife by the Amanas once she is revealed to be a yomibito.
  • The Power of Love: It is because of this she is able to voluntarily return to the dead, instead of being forcibly banished there by the Amanas.
  • Undying Loyalty: She still loves Mibu once she regains her memories, even though he had killed her in a fit of rage.

     Mibu Kamishiro
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mibu_kamishiro.jpg
Voiced by: Yusuke Shirai

Saya's older brother and heir apparent to the Kamishiro corporation.

  • Big Bad: Nearly all the bad things that happen in the game can be attributed to him.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing
  • Evil Is Hammy
  • Faux Affably Evil: He remains pleasant all the way up until he's discovered in Yukino and Miu's routes, at which he point he completely drops the façade.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul
  • If I Can't Have You…: He strangles Kaori for breaking up with him.
  • Sanity Slippage: He completely loses it when Kaori breaks up with him. Although one has to wonder how sane he was in the first place.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Money!: Basically how he thought he could get away with all of his actions. And it works, up until a point.
  • Serial Killer: By the start of the game, has killed at least three women - Kaori and two teenage girls - and if he'd had his way, he would've killed Yukino, Miu, and Rei as well.
  • Sexual Extortion: Tries to do this to Maimi, despite her still being a high school student and almost a decade younger than him.
  • Story Branching: The only route where he doesn't come off as an abusive, insane, murderous Jerkass is Saya's.
  • The Unfavorite: Implied, despite being the oldest (and apparently only) son - his father appears to prefer Saya over him, grooming her to be his successor.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Has one in almost every route except Saya's.
