U.A. Kids

    Izuku Midoriya

A cheerful boy who loves all things heroes and dreams of becoming one himself. After receiving words of encouragement from his idol, along with receiving help from peculiar places, Izuku is able to forge his own path as a hero without the use of a Quirk. As a result, he is Quirkless.

  • All of the Other Reindeer: He was bullied by his peers for being Quirkless for 10 years.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: His ability to analyze the powers, abilities and fighting styles of all heroes is regarded as a remarkable talent by Toshinori and Nezu. It's because of this that the latter decides to take Izuku under his wing to nurture this gift so he may use it in the hero field.
  • Badass Normal: As a Quirkless hero, Izuku relies on his analytical mind and sharp reflexes when it comes to battle. He's even managed to defeat several U.A. seniors in battle trials.
  • Character Development: Thanks to receiving positive support from the U.A. staff, along with going to therapy sessions, Izuku is able to overcome his insecurities and has become more bolder and confident. He can even stand up to his childhood bully with little to no difficulty.
  • In-Series Nickname: His new hero alias is "Valiant".
  • Prone to Tears: He has a tendency to cry as in canon.
  • Refusal of the Call: Played with. He turns down Toshinori's offer of inheriting One For All claiming that doing so would justify the toxic beliefs about heroes needing Quirks that he was forced to endure. That said, he still intends to be a hero who helps others. Just without a Quirk.
  • Official Couple: He's in a polygamous relationship with Ochako and Tsuyu.
  • Secret-Keeper: Along with learning about All Might's Quirk and true self, he also learns that he chose Ochako as his potential successor.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Thanks to receiving positive support, Izuku is confident enough to back talk anyone who dares put him down for being Quirkless. From his childhood bully to adult Pro Heroes.

    Himiko Toga / Midoriya

A self conscious girl with a fascination for blood. After being rescued by the U.A. heroes during the Meta Liberation War Arc, she starts to embrace her true self while following the path to heroism. Her Quirk is Transform.

  • Adaptational Dye-Job: Literally, as it's actual dye. After the USJ, Himiko starts dyeing her hair green to match her adopted family's.
  • Ascended Extra: She goes from a recurring villain to a main character after she's discovered by Vlad King and Midnight.
  • Bizarre Taste in Food: Given how her Quirk is tied to ingesting blood, Himiko often needs to consume blood in her meals to stay healthy. Thankfully, the U.A. staff and her new family are willing to accommodate to her dietary needs.
  • Character Development: After being rescued by the Pro Heroes and getting to live with the Midoriyas, Himiko transforms goes from a timid, insecure girl to a chipper and confident young lady who is free to express herself.
  • Cool Big Sis: She becomes one to Izuku, even though he claims that she's only older by a year.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Because of the nature of her Quirk, her parents treated her as a "demon child" and would force her to suppress herself through the illegal practice of Quirk Suppression Therapy. She also has difficulties with embracing her love of blood due to her parents' abuse and the trauma from the last time she took blood from someone.
  • Happily Adopted: Nezu assigns her to stay with the Midoriyas while U.A. prepares a dorm area where she can properly stay. But several months later, the Midoriyas have accepted her as one of their own and officially adopt her on her birthday.
  • In-Series Nickname: Her hero alias is "Carmilla".
  • Took a Level in Cheerfulness: Thanks to being around a healthy family environment, Himiko becomes a lot more happier and playful as the story progresses.
  • Unstoppable Rage: She goes on a rampage against Shigaraki's Nomu after the monster knocks out her beloved brother. This would lead the vampire to use her Quirk to transform into her classmates and use their powers to attack the Nomu.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: By drinking one's blood, she can transform into a spitting image of that person.

    Katsuki Bakugou

A destructive kid who believes himself to be the most powerful hero hopeful of all. Due to growing up in a manipulative school environment, Bakugou believes that his Quirk makes him better than everyone and is flabbergasted when things don't go the way he expects them to. His Quirk is Explosion.

  • The Bully: Towards Izuku throughout their childhood.
  • Character Development: After being targeted and pressured to join the League of Villains because of his arrogant nature, Bakugou begins to tone down his hostile attitude and shows more consideration with his actions. The biggest examples are in Chapter 33 where not only does he have a decent conversation with his former victim, but he also voices a desire to take therapy.
  • Graceful Loser: Despite losing the major events in the Sports Festival Arc, he acts surprisingly calm and stoic when processing his losses. A stark contrast to him throwing temper tantrums in the canon story.
  • Having a Blast: He can create explosions from the palms of his hands.
  • Heel Realization: He refuses to see that he did anything wrong up until the League of Villains try to recruit him. The realization that other villains think he is one of them is the kick he needs to start becoming a better person.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: His goal in life is to be recognized as the best hero of them all.
  • I Lied: He pretends to join Kurogiri when offered an invitation to join the League of Villains. He instantly turns on his "partners" when they begin their attack on Ground Omega.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: During the USJ Attack, he tries to attack Kurogiri with one of his explosions, but the shadow weaving villain uses his portals to direct Bakugou's attack onto him. The pain and intensity of the explosion is what make Bakugou realize how much pain he put Izuku through for an entire decade.
  • Never My Fault: Even after he's exposed for bullying Izuku for years, he refuses to accept responsibility for his actions.
  • Selective Obliviousness: All he gets from learning about his teachers being part of the Meta Liberation Army is that he was being groomed into becoming Re-Destro's lackey, ignoring how his belief that his Quirk is superior to others' is shaped after the MLA's core belief.
  • Unwitting Pawn: After the Aldera controversy, Bakugou believes that his teachers were just grooming him so he can become a second-rate lackey for Re-Destro and support his supremacist cause.
  • Victim-Blaming: He justifies bullying Izuku by claiming that he deserved it for being weak and he should have accepted the beatings without whining.

    Class Z

A newly formed group of hero hopefuls created after the controversy surrounding the Aldera school district. Each of them were picked into partaking in this new remedial course in the hopes of giving them a better chance at succeeding in their hero academia.

U.A. Staff

    Principal Nezu

The not-annoying, talking animal headmaster of U.A. Behind his cheerful and whimsical personality lies an analytical being who cares deeply for the potential and safety of his students. His Quirk is High Spec.

  • Catchphrase: "Am I an X, a Y, or a Z? It doesn't matter, what's important is that I'm the Principal!"
  • In-Series Nickname: Referred to as "The Rat" by Aizawa.
  • Kick The Son Of A Bitch: He takes genuine pleasure in inflicting righteous justice on anyone he deems to be a monster.
  • The Mentor: He becomes Izuku' tutor as he helps the boy improve his analytical powers while instilling meaningful life lessons.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: He confides in Izuku that he knows what it's like to be discriminated and tormented against because of his genetic differences.
  • Talking Animal: His given archetype. Although it's a mystery as to what type of animal he is.
  • Tranquil Fury: He always maintains a cheerful face, but his mannerisms become grim and furious whenever he learns of something that pisses him off.
  • Xanatos Speed Chess: While Nezu was planning to take down the HPSC, his plans were for that to happen in another few years. The Strays revealing all of the HPSC's dirty laundry forced him to greatly accelerate his plans in that regard.

    All Might — Toshinori Yagi

Japan's Number One Hero and a new (unofficial) teacher at U.A. After a chance encounter with Izuku, Toshinori instills in him a new form of hope that inspires the boy to achieve his dreams without a Quirk. His Quirk is One For All.

  • Big Good: The fairest hero of them all who is a genuinely good person in both his hero and civilian forms.
  • But Now I Must Go: Metaphorically speaking. He is aware of how modern society has depended on his hero alter ego to maintain peace and that his departure would result in society's utter collapse. While Toshi intends to find a meaningful substitute to ensure that society will not crumble, he knows too well that All Might needs to leave so the world can stand on its own.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: His diligent nature and his need to be there to save the day no matter what has contributed to his reputation as the fairest hero in all the land. This gets deconstructed during the USJ Attack where he was unable to attend as he was busy attending another, less critical, situation. This makes him realize that him constantly going in to save the day has made the Japanese public overly reliant on him.
  • The Mentor: Subverted. While he does support Izuku during his journey, he role as his teacher was transferred and shared by Nezu and Aizawa. Not to mention that Izuku refuses the chance to be his successor.
  • Stepford Smiler: He admits to Izuku that the reason he smiles so much is to provide comfort for the people he's saving during dire situations. Even if he feels scared or worried, he can't show weaknesses like that as it would tarnish his ability to help others.

    Shouta Aizawa
An Underground Hero with a fierce reputation as a Sink or Swim Mentor at U.A. Despite his grim personality, he has a noble heart and genuinely wants to support any student with potential.
  • Combat Parkour: He's fully versed when it comes to using parkour to navigate cityscapes and even teaches the main principles to Izuku.
  • The Mentor: He becomes Izuku's personal trainer as he helps him with combat training.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: He gives a critical one to Bakugou after meeting him in the fifth chapter.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He's more responsible with the growth and safety of his students. This is best shown during Chapter 63 where he brings up valid concerns about Ochako becoming All Might's successor and taking in the heavy responsibilities that come with the position.
  • Secret-Keeper: He also learns about All Might's secrets along with how the Number One Hero chose Ochako to inherit One For All.
  • Sour Supporter: He tends to throw shade at "the Rat" for his over the top antics, but he always stays by his side when it comes to taking affirmative actions with their school.

Villains

    Re-Destro

The CEO of the Detnerat Company as well as the High Commander of the Meta Liberation Army. Along with creating a cult that promotes the liberation of Quirk usage, he's also revealed to have heavy influence in Izuku and Bakugou's school district. His Meta Ability is Stress.

  • Sinister Schnoz: One of his defining features is his pointy nose. Bakugou even names him based on his nose.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He only appears for a few chapters, but it's revealed that the Aldera school district was illegally practicing the Meta Liberation Army's toxic beliefs about Quirk usage, which created a hostile environment against students with mutant or no quirks. After his defeat and exposure, Nezu and the Hero Commission begin to reevaluate their standards for how potential hero hopefuls can enter their programs.
  • The Social Darwinist: His beliefs involved praising and nurturing those with powerful quirks while ostracizing people with weak quirks who could not follow through with his supremacist beliefs.
  • Starter Villain: He's the first major villain who is fought in the story.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: He runs the Detnerat Company which creates support technology for upcoming heroes and the general public.
  • You Wouldn't Like Me When I'm Angry!: He's normally calm, but his Quirk involves cultivating stress which transforms him into an unstoppable monster.

    Tomura Shigaraki
All For One's apprentice and leader of the League of Villains. He wishes to destroy heroes and their society. His Quirk is Decay.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: In canon he went into the U.S.J. blind with no plan other than to sic his Nomu on All Might. Here, before his attack on U.A., he realizes from gathering intelligence on the third years he was planning to attack that he needs to improve on his plan and kidnaps hostages as part of it. This ends up being deconstructed, as Tomura's increased intelligence causes All For One to be willing to take away control from him, because All For One doesn't want an intelligent independent villain as his protege, only a powerful vessel for him to control. It's reconstructed when Tomura's intelligence causes him to realize that All For One doesn't care for him at all, leading to Kurogiri finding out All For One's true plan and them choosing to help the heroes out of spite.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: During the U.S.J. Attack, he openly questions why Bakugou would willingly turn against him and turn down the opportunity for revenge against Izuku despite being denied his dream of being part of the hero course.
  • Rage Against the Mentor: At the end of the Tokyo Invasion Arc, he expresses frustration and fury at Kurogiri due to All For One hijacking his initial Nomu invasion by unleashing a full blown assault on Tokyo. It left Tomura feeling bitter that his master decided to go behind his back and take away his spotlight.
  • Shed the Family Name: When Izuku calls him by Shigaraki at the end of Chapter 70, the villain tells him not to call him that anymore.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Kurogiri discovers that All For One only intends to use Shigaraki as a new body for the Dark King to take over when the time is right.

Civilians

    Inko Midoriya
Izuku's mother. Despite having a fragile and nervous nature, she cares deeply for her family and is willing to do whatever it takes to support them. Her Quirk is Object Attraction.
  • Fountain of Youth: By the power of Eri's Quirk, Inko becomes ten years younger.
  • Good Parents: A noble-hearted woman who wants what's best for her children.
  • Must Make Amends: She becomes more devoted and spends as much time as she can with her son after learning that he was bullied for 10 years and she was unaware of it.
  • Parental Substitute:
    • Becomes one to Himiko and she couldn't be happier with her new daughter.
    • This is invoked during the Internship Arc where Nezu specifically requests that she help with taking care of Eri given her own experience in helping Himiko.
  • Prone to Tears: She is a Midoriya after all.
