The Teacher both pre and post-spoilification
"Listen up, kids! When the going gets tough, just focus on your dreams!!"

A woman who worked as a teacher at the Sunflower Nursery School before UMA Spoil invaded the town.

  • Cool Teacher: She risks her life to save her students and encourages them to hold on to their dreams in spite of the dire situation.
  • Goal in Life: Hers was simply to meet a handsome man and get married. After being zombified, she has Andy walk down the aisle in exchange for revealing Spoil's location.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: She pulls Fuuko into a hug and charges at Spoil, knowing full well that Fuuko's Unluck will surely kill her but content with at least harming Spoil in the process.
  • No Name Given: She's never given a proper name.
  • Sunny Sunflower Disposition: Befitting her workplace's name, she's an overall positive individual who helps push her students to not give up hope in a hopeless time.
  • Wight in a Wedding Dress: She dons a wedding dress for her impromptu wedding with Andy, something she'd always wanted to wear when she was human.

    Longing Children

Longing Children

Ken voiced by: Makoto Koichi (JP), Laura Stahl (ENG)

Mii voiced by: Kokoa Amano (JP), Michelle Marie (ENG)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/longing_children.png

A group of four children from Longing's Sunflower Nursery School who were hidden underground shortly after UMA Spoil invaded the town.

  • Ambiguously Related: The Longing zombie that somehow made its way to New York wears the same baseball uniform that Ken does, subtly implying that the two share some sort of relationship.
  • Goal in Life: One of them, a girl named Mii, wants to be a florist when she grows up, specifically to sell sunflowers since those are her teacher's favorite. She's even shown holding a sunflower on the cover of chapter 21.
  • Heroic Willpower: They're able to ward off Spoil's zombification by clinging to their hopes of the future. They impart this knowledge onto Fuuko and Shen, allowing them to do the same.
  • The Leader: Ken acts as the group's impromptu leader due to being the oldest among them.
  • No Name Given: Two of the four are not named. They happen to have less detailed faces as well.
  • Uncertain Doom: The Spoil Arc ends with the entire town of Longing getting annihilated by meteors thanks to Fuuko's Unluck, with no information given about what happened these guys. Fortunately, the cover of chapter 21 and Episode 8's Adaptation Expansion shows that all the kids are fine, having left the town before Victor returned from space and got taken into the Union's custody.
  • Young Gun: Ken wields a gun in order to protect the others.

Past Characters

Characters that appear in flashbacks and memories.
    Andy's Old Crew

Andy's Old Crew

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/andys_old_crew.png
Andy's original crew.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/andys_old_crew_2.png
Later crew members.

A group of vagabonds that roamed America with Andy during the Reconstruction Era. Due to Andy's immortality, the crews members shifted through the decades as he traveled.

  • The Alcoholic: The Volume 5 extras reveal that Josh is this, listing drinking as one of her main likes and drinking games as her special skill.
  • All There in the Manual: Due to only appearing in one chapter before being killed off, much of their individual personality traits are only explored in the Volume 5 extras.
  • Big Eater: The Volume 5 extras reveal imply that Sanders is this, listing cooking as one of his hobbies, competitive eating as his special skill, and delicious meals as one of his main likes.
  • Big, Thin, Short Trio: Of Andy's original crew, Sanders is the big, Josh is the thin, and Red is the short.
  • Brains and Brawn: Camus and Ash respectively, according to the Volume 5 extras. Camus likes number, collects physics research books as a hobby, and specializes in mental arithmetic type challenges, while Ash does muscle training has a hobby and specializes in fighting challenges.
  • I Owe You My Life: Implied to be why they follow Andy, as he apparently saved them from their own trouble in the past and thus they wish to help him out in any way they can.
  • Life Will Kill You: In a series involving UMAs, Negators, and Jerkass Gods messing with mortals, Andy's flashbacks reveal that both Camus and Ash eventually passed away of old age after living a full life.
  • Multiple Gunshot Death The original crew's fate after their sold out by a local tavern owner and a group of bandits gun them down before they can defend themselves.
  • Odd Friendship: Camus and Ash were noted to be quite different in terms of personalities, but Andy's flashbacks reveal they remained close to each other through the rest of their lives.
  • Pervert Revenge Mode: Inverted. Fuuko notes that Ash is always staring at her chest while Camus is more respectful, and because of this her Unluck is less effective on Ash (who only gets a little dirty) while Camus faces harsher misfortune (having his chair break beneath him and falling on his ass).
  • Rugged Scar: Sanders has a small scar going down his left eye that completes his "big, tough guy" look. Josh has a similar looking scar going down her right eye, though it's usually covered by her bangs.
  • Taking the Bullet: Josh and Sanders both use their bodies to shield Fuuko from the brigade of bullets they're gunned down with, securing Fuuko's survival but also resulting in their own deaths.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Camus and Ash only show up rather briefly in the Autumn arc, but having to watch them grow old and die while remaining the same influenced Andy's desire to die in the first place and was also the inspiration behind his true goal.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Josh is the only female member of the crew shown.
  • Undying Loyalty: All of them are this to Andy, of whom they're very protective. Josh makes it clear to Fuuko that just lying about knowing him is enough to set them all off. The Volume extras show this further, as "The Captain" is is listed as one of their major likes in all of their profiles. Even as she lay dying after being riddled with bullets, she uses the last her of her strength to ask Fuuko if Andy is happy in the future.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: The original crew are all killed in the same chapter that they're properly introduced in.

    Leila

Leila Mirah

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leila.png
Latla's younger twin sister, a sickly young woman that both Latla and Rip cared for dearly that died the day both of their Negator abilities manifested.
  • The Fatalist: Her appearance in Rip and Latla's flashback suggests Leila had shades of this concerning how she was destined to die, despite her sister and friend trying their hardest to avert it. When her operation fails because of Rip being given Unrepairable, her response is simply telling them that her death was meant to be.
  • Hidden Depths: Her profile in Volume 13 reveals Leila was actually troubled about the fact Rip and Latla dedicated their lives to her, something that may have reflected in accepting her death as being meant to be.
  • Identical Twin ID Tag: Leila's bangs are ragged compared to Latla's straight bangs and her hair was shoulder-length compared to Latla having longer hair prior to her death. The 101st loop version of her retains the different bangs but Leila is the one with longer hair while Latla retains the same shorter hairstyle she had in the 100th loop.
  • Irony: Leila's last words to Rip and Latla as she was bleeding to death reveal she wanted them to forget about her and instead focus on using their abilities to save others, the opposite of what Rip and Latla ultimately do by trying to save her via taking the Ark, which would mean humanity losing any hope of killing God.
  • Posthumous Character: Died sometime in the past, the circumstances of which involve Latla telling her fortune and Rip trying to operate on her, mainly due to their Negator abilities manifesting. Both blame themselves for her passing.
  • Polyamory: On the predicted happiest day of their lives, she gleefully gets married with her sister Latla to Rip simultaneously.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: Getting to ride the Ark and save her is the primary motivation for Rip and Latla in the 100th loop, a mission that they ultimately pass on to Andy and Fuuko after their defeat. Once Fuuko finally catches up to her in 2015 in the 101st loop, she pulls out all the stops to ensure her happy ending, fighting a Master Rule and putting a century of medical practice to good work. Thanks to the Union’s intervention, she makes a full medical recovery from her otherwise terminal illness and enters a happy marriage with her beloved prince.
  • Sibling Triangle: Leila and her sister Latla are both in love with Rip, a situation that was never fully resolved due to her tragic death born from their untimely Negator activations. Downplayed, as while there’s aggravation, there’s no real animosity between the two of them, and Leila's greatest desire in the 101st loop is just the three of them being happy together. A wish that seems very ''directly'' assured, come their mutual wedding.
  • Stepford Smiler: Implied. While shown to be a rather cheerful person in flashbacks, Leila is indicated to be quietly accepting of the fact she's likely to die within ten years and her comments about her death being fated as she's dying from her failed operation imply Leila had some shades of being a fatalist.
  • Wax On, Wax Off: According to the Volume Extras, she taught Rip basically everything he knows about sewing, a technique obviously useful in his later surgical career.

    Luo

Luo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/luo_9.png
The senior disciple from the martial art's school Shen was trained in, whom Shen could never beat during his time there.
  • Demoted to Extra: While he was already an extremely minor character, he was still considered a member of Shen and Mei's found family with Feng. In the the 101st loop due to changed circumstances, this relationship is never established and he only appears as Mui's opponent during a tournament.
  • Posthumous Character: He was killed long ago by Feng and subsequently placed in the Game of Death artifact.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He had no issue beating up a Shen when he was child in fighting tournament and even mocked Shen for being a "brawling brat" afterwards, but he also willingly paid for Mei's schooling once Shen joined his school without much complaint, showing that he wasn't a total ass. He also openly objected to Feng's plan for Mui and Shen to fight to the death before Feng killed him to shut him up.

    Mei

Mei

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/meihex.png
Shen's little sister.
  • Accidental Murder: Shen killed her when he first received Untruth, accidently using it on her when she was dangling off a cliff and making her let go of his hand. In the 101st loop, this never happened, thanks to Fuuko.
  • Dead Person Conversation: After Shen is impaled by Feng's Zuishin Tekkan Rod, Shen has a short conversation with her, in which she encourages him to live and protect those he cares about the best he can.
  • Instant Expert: With only a little teaching from Shen, she was able to perform one of the stronger moves from his school's teachings, something that Shen himself could hardly believe. This latent potential led Feng to have the siblings fight to the death in the hopes of finding his true successor. In the 101st loop, we don't know how much of this still applies since we don't see her physically train with Shen this turn around.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name and Mui's name are the exact same character (梅), but Mei is its Pinyin pronunciation while Mui is one of its pronunciations in Japanese. This represents how she and Mui serve similar roles in Shen's life, and Mui's seeming Replacement Goldfish nature after Mei dies.
  • Posthumous Character: She died long before the series started. No longer true in the next loop, thanks to Fuuko's intervention.
  • Shipper on Deck: Her 101st loop self thinks Shen's feelings for Mui are obvious, but she supports them wholeheartedly while teasing Shen the whole time.

Assorted Civilians

    Ryo

Ryo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ryo_anime_4.png

Chikara's high school friend.

  • Innocently Insensitive: Since he isn't aware of the language unification, he assumes Chikara, who was unaffected, is just playing a prank by not talking in English, accidentally making Chikara feel isolated from the other students at school.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: The Union erases all of his memories regarding Chikara after the latter joins the Union himself.
  • Lovable Jock: Implied, as he's an overall nice guy who earned a basketball scholarship for college.
  • Unwitting Muggle Friend: To Chikara. Ryo has no idea about the nature behind his power and never gets a chance to learn before Chikara joins the Union. His 101st loop self does at least learn the real circumstances and is treated as an Honorary True Companion by Sean.
