Left to right: Cici, Kairi, Buck, Summer, Pearl, Jordan, Emily
    open/close all folders

    Reginald P. Happenstahnce (Reggie)
The protagonist and player character. Awaking a few weeks into a zombie apocalypse from an alcohol-induced coma from his dad, he sets out with Pearl and Buck to find the cure his father left behind and deliver it somewhere it can hopefully be mass-produced.
  • Ancestral Name: Revealed to be the fourth of his name. His dad has the same name, but is III.
  • Butt-Monkey: Frequently the butt of jokes from the others.
  • Chick Magnet: Can have all of the girls fall in love with him.
  • Childhood Friends: With Pearl and Jordan.
  • Deadpan Snarker
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Got jokingly called ‘Redgie’ by Jordan when they were much younger.
  • The Heart
  • The Leader
  • Nice Guy: When he’s not teasing someone, he’s an overall nice person(assuming you don’t pick any of the more jerkish dialogue options).
  • Non-Action Guy: Doesn’t take part in fights, though he does spar with Summer on a few occasion in her Arc scenes.
  • Power Trio: With childhood friends Pearl and Jordan, shown most in the first dungeon, as they’re the only party members at the beginning.
  • The Unseen: He has no character portrait, and only his hands appear in any C Gs.
  • Tranquil Fury: Briefly gets like this in Cici's last Arc scene when she tells him about how her family and boys she dated treated her before he hugs her.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Jordan. They both love to riff on each other, but are very close.
  • The Voiceless: Has no voice acting at all.
    Pearl Moira
Voiced by: Rachelle Heger
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pm_2.png
Age: 20
Height: 5'6 ''
Former Blood Type: O+
Reggie’s childhood friend and Jordan’s cousin, she was watching over and taking care of Reggie the whole time he was asleep.
  • Abusive Parents: Her alcoholic father has, according to her, both physically and verbally abused both her and her mother while drunk.
    • Brought up in her second Arc scene in Beastmooreland Hospital, he came home angry one time, knocked her out of the way to get a drink from the fridge, slapped her mother, knocked her over a coffee table, and just barely missed hitting her (Pearl’s mom) with a bottle when they started to argue.
    • Also during her Arc scene there, she recounts to Reggie how one time when she was younger, after she got angry at him for slapping her mom and smashed a glass he was drinking from, he forced her to pick up the pieces by hand, cutting into her hands and getting alcohol in them in the process. Then he proceeded to squeeze her hands together, which were still holding the broken glass pieces. Though he stopped once he realized what he just did, and had her mom take her to the hospital, Pearl had to take a lot of physical therapy just to get her hand’s basic motor skills back, though she told Reggie she was ‘studying abroad’ during this time. It still affects her even now, as she has had some ‘cooking mishaps’ stemming from it.
  • But Not Too Foreign: Part Native American, but diluted quite a bit, her grandparents saying she’s ‘as Native American as the Turquoise jewelry she wears’.
  • Childhood Friends: With Reggie and her cousin Jordan.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: VERY openly possessive of Reggie, and gets jealous when he pays too much attention to the others on occasion.
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: She’s both this and a Supreme Chef. Reggie and Jordan talk about some...interesting cooking concoctions she’s made for them, with Pearl herself mentions once making Jordan a ‘peanut, butter and jelly sandwich’ instead of a normal PB&J, as well as a ‘pepperoni and grape jelly sandwich’, to Summer's disgust.
  • Girl Next Door: Literally. Her house is next to Reggie’s.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Had the skin on her arms where her bandages are torn off rather viscously after getting jumped by zombies when trying to get back into her house for supplies.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • Can possibly be said by Reggie in a Yuurei High School subevent to have been good at arts and crafts back in high school, and some students asked her to make them jewelry.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Gets mad in one subevent where Reggie can accept jerky from Kairi, saying he’s being bribed with food, but claims it’s ‘fine when she does it’ when Jordan calls her out on doing the same when cooking for him.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: One type of weapon she can use is swords, a few being katanas.
  • Power Trio: With Reggie and her cousin Jordan.
  • The Rival: Forms a rivalry with Kairi(and technically everyone else) over Reggie, but also becomes close friends with her.
  • Reluctant Warrior: Early on, a few events and sub-events mention her being afraid of violence, even to the point of having difficulty fighting the monsters attacking them. A subevent in Podunk Precinct has Jordan make Reggie ‘stage an intervention’ for Pearl to help with that. This attitude is born from her father’s drunken behavior, occasionally getting violent with both her and her mom. A sub-event in Sanctuary Sewers has her reveal that she’s gotten better at handing this, with some help from Emily.
  • Squee: Makes the noise once in a sub-event, which Jordan told her was gross, and to never make it again.
  • Supreme Chef: Has cooked for Reggie’s family after his mother passed away, and both they and Jordan like her (normal) cooking.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Bourbon Chicken, which is also a healing item you can find (which more than fully heals her, and only her). Even shown to carry around a bottle of bourbon glaze in a late event for when she and the others accidently let slip that they go out to look for fresh animal meat while Reggie’s asleep.
    Jordan Hollandaise
Voiced by: Laura Post
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jh.png
Age: 18
Height: 5'4 ''
Former Blood Type: B-
Another of Reggie’s childhood friends and Pearl’s cousin, she was left holed up at the local police station by Reggie and Pearl’s dads after turning.
  • A-Cup Angst: Has the smallest bust of the cast, though Pearl can tell her she can pull off different looks thanks to it.
  • Butt-Monkey. Pretty much everyone loves to tease her over the course of the game.
  • Childhood Friends: With Reggie and her cousin Pearl.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Brought along batteries for her phone, as well as glasses wipes (she does have a pair herself, though only for reading very tiny text; she otherwise doesn’t need them).
  • Does Not Like Spam: Absolutely hates creamed corn, unless Pearl (secretly) uses it in stew (Jordan claims it’s ‘too runny’ without it).
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: Says to not like the knee-jerk reactions she gets whenever mentioning her dead parents.
  • Fiery Redhead: Has red hair and a temper.
  • Gamer Chick:
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Got a large, nasty bite to her head from some zombies that grabbed her long hair, hence why it’s in hoops now. It was apparently deep enough to see to her brain, and this has caused her some memory issues, post-zombification.
  • Little Miss Snarker:
  • Long-Range Fighter: One of her usable weapon types is ranged weaponry, such as syringes that she throws, as well as bow-like weapons.
  • Love Triangle: Clearly in one for Reggie with Pearl, though she tells him that she'll 'kick him in the nards' if he calls it that.
  • The Movie Buff: She, along with Reggie, and Pearl on occasion, love watching bad B-Movies and the like, and makes references to them on occasion. Before everything went to hell, she ran a stream show named ‘Hoarsefeed’ where she talks about them.
  • Otaku: Has been stated to watch anime.
  • Power Trio: With Pearl, her cousin, and Reggie.
  • The Unfavorite: Implied to feel this way, as she says she’s ‘a hand-me-down, unlike Pearl’ due to moving in with Pearl's family after her own parent's deaths when talking about being left at the police station by Pearl’s dad after turning undead. May also feel like a third wheel between Reggie and Pearl.
  • Tsundere: Or ‘contrarian’ as the game words it. Has many of the usual traits of one: short, small-breasted, and prone to anger. Her ending trophy, ‘How Tsundere You!’ directly references the character type.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Reggie. Though she gets annoyed when he teases her, she can dish it out just as well, and really likes being close with him.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: When she feels sick from looking up at the tall building for Swain Industries, she ralphs over either Reggie's shoes, or runs off and does it on Buck’s boots, depending on which dialogue choice you make for Reggie.
    Kairi Fujisaki
Voiced by: Xanthe Huynh
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kf_6.png
Age: 19
Height: 5'7 ''
Former Blood Type: A-
A half-zombie girl Reggie finds while going to check out the gas station near Mainman Mall for supplies. Her name is written as 藤咲・カイリ in Japanese characters.
  • Appearance Angst: Mentions in one subevent that her mother, who is a plastic surgeon, often pointed out supposed imperfections Kairi had, such as having a tiny nose or that her ears stuck out.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: Gains this with Reggie.
  • Bespectacled Cutie
  • Blind Without 'Em: Said to be this in a sub-event in Sanctuary Sewers when Jordan told her to take them off after they kept getting smudged up.
  • Brains and Brawn: Strikes up this kind of friendship with Summer.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Had a few maps and other webpages saved to her phone for use in offline mode before the outbreak happened. Her family also had connections to those higher up, and had advance warning about the virus’s outbreak, allowing them to prepare for it.
  • Companion Cube: Her pink pencil case, Cynthia, which she got as a gift from a girl in elementary school. While Reggie thought it was named after who she got it from, the truth is that the one who gave it to her was named Samantha, and is actually named after a bully who constantly broke all of her pencils, doing so as a means to 'bring order to chaos'.
  • Did I Just Say That Out Loud?: Attempts at trash talk, like her saying ‘S-suck on that, Reggie” and some rather lewd things she says invoke this and embarrassment on her.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Rather abrasive towards the others at first, even believing she should take over the leader role, she slowly opens up more to the others. The description for the CG from her Arc scene at the end of Yuurei High School mentioning that ‘there is a massive disconnect’ between this Kairi and her back at the gas station where the party found her.
  • Eye Scream: Her left eye is dead. She keeps it from shriveling up by regularly injecting it directly with saline, which ends up saving it after she’s returned to normal. It was most likely caused by her cousin scratching at it after he turned.
  • Face Death with Dignity: What she intended to do when she hugged her cousin Takeru, who had turned and attacked the rest of her family, and ended his suffering before succumbing to a scratch to her eye and bite to the neck from him before reviving as a half-zombie.
  • Fangirl: Mentions at one point to have watched Jordan's Hoarsefeed streams.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Has a large bite mark on her neck. It was caused by her cousin who had turned, and he bit her and scratched her eye when she hugged him one last time before mercy-killing him.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Has had a very lonely childhood due to being homeschooled, with at least one bully.
  • Jack of All Trades: She can use three types of weapons well: swords, spears and ranged weaponry.
  • Joshikousei: Gives off this vibe, considering she’s wearing her school uniform.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: One type of weapon she can use is swords, a few being katanas.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: Never really made friends before meeting the others, due to being home schooled after elementary school, aside from a girl from there who gave her Cynthia.
  • Not So Aboveit All: Eventually starts warming up the others and enjoying a bit of silliness for herself. Like teasing Jordan.
  • The Rival: Forms a friendship and rivalry with Pearl romantically for Reggie’s affections (technically the others, as well, though it’s most prominent with her).
  • Sailor Fuku: Is still wearing her school uniform. She claims it instills a sense of discipline...and was her ‘only pressed and clean outfit’.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses:
    Summer Rath
Voiced by: Erica Mendez
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sr_9.png
Age: 20
Height: 5'6 ''
Former Blood Type: B+
A sporty half-zombie girl that the party encounters when entering a sports store in Mainman Mall who immediately challenges Reggie to a sparring match.
  • Animal Lover: Had a dog of an unknown breed named Blue, which her dad nicknamed Ol’Blue, when she was alive. He unfortunately was the cause of her zombification, as he was bitten trying to protect Summer when zombies attempted to break into her house, and later passed away and reanimated when she hid with him under a deck. Thinking he was actually okay, ‘like an idiot’ as Summer says about herself in that moment, she got bitten on the leg, and got another large and nasty one to her side while trying to escape.
  • Brains and Brawn: Strikes up this kind of friendship with Kairi.
  • Bully Hunter: Mentions that she used to beat up bullies if a certain choice is picked in the sub-event 'Bullying', where she and Reggie mess around with Emily by tossing around Dichroma, her saying she felt no better than them afterwards.
  • But Not Too Foreign: Part Brazilian, on her father’s side.
  • Cute Bruiser
  • Disappeared Dad: While Summer was at home from college, she and her dad were watching the news when the outbreak started, seeing people turn and attack the reporters and others on TV that was showing the strip mall where her two older brothers worked. Her dad ran out to 'try and save' them, and never returned. Summer tells Reggie that she has no doubt that they all died or turned during the incident.
  • Family Business: Her family runs one for drinks named 'Juice Jitsu'. In Yuurei High School and Beastmooreland Hospital, there are vending machines for both Juice Jitsu and Fontaine Orange Juice, the former having a chibi Summer on them.
  • Good Old Fisticuffs: One type of weapon she can use are fists/gloves.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Has a bite mark on her right leg, and has a large rip in her side where part of her rib is sticking out.
  • Hidden Depths: Was in college before everything went to hell, and had been working hard to keep her grades up to get into a good school when younger, and wasn't just focused on sports.
  • Hot-Blooded
  • Innocently Insensitive: Playedfor Laughs; makes a joke about Kairi being an ‘anime chick’, a girl who has a single minded focus on the only guy around and not being knowledgable about 'certain topics', which Kairi says is a bit racist, who then counters that Pearl fits the mold better.
  • Lightning Bruiser: She’s fast and hits hard with physical attacks/Skills.
  • Missing Mom: After her mom’s breast cancer spread to her bones, she and Summer’s dad agreed to separate, and she left to live out what time she had left to the fullest instead of, as Summer puts it, ‘die in society’s paywalls’.
  • Noodle Incident: Summer mentions once that while ‘girls don’t get into lingerie fights like in movies, they aren’t above making each other do embarrassing things’, then clams up and tells them "Er, just saying’... Don’t get the wrong idea about me".
  • Tomboy
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: Is the most sporty of the girls, and has her hair tied up in a ponytail with a red bow.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Olive Oil, which she also suggests for other uses, such as using it to slip into clothes easier.
  • Visual Pun: Her white undershirt has 72 on it, a play on 'Natsu'(Summer).
    Cecilia Fontaine (Cici)
Voiced by: Natalie Hoover
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cf_7.png
Age: 21
Height: 5'9 ''
Former Blood Type: AB+
A seemingly-ditzy half-zombie girl who the party finds while looking at clothes in the Bananer Funpublik store in Mainman Mall.
  • Becoming the Mask: A large part of her character. Raised by her rich socialite parents to present herself as ‘approachable’(ie appear unintelligent), sleep with other men and let them do what they want with her so that they’d ‘owe her’ down the line, and has her own interests, such as being able to learn the C# programming language as young as 6, discouraged(to the point of them even throwing out her books on it, making her learn it by hand). She tells Reggie that she has trouble with being ‘the Cici in her mind and the Cici in her heart’ and that ‘neither is valued, but at least one is useful to her family’.
    • She mentions in a sub-event in Mainman Mall that her drinking the 'chocolate syrup'(actually motor oil) was her trying to make them go away, which was, as she words it, a 'defense mechanism' that she has trouble turning off, asking them to 'please bear with it'. She follows up by saying that she's glad she met all of them.
  • Book Smart: She's both this and Street Smart.
  • Cuteness Overload: Loves to glomp Emily, especially when she uses her normal voice.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander
  • Dumb Blonde: At least pretends to be, possibly raised this way to be more ‘obtainable’.
  • Family Business: Her family runs one for 'Fontaine Orange Juice'.
  • Genius Ditz: In contrast to how she tends to act, she reveals that she was able to learn the C# programming language pretty much by herself at age 6 after parents threw out books she had on the subject, and graduated as a valedictorian. How ‘ditzy’ she truly is, and how much she’s pretending, is debatable.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Has a large scar on her left arm. How she got it, or how she turned, is never brought up.
  • Gratuitous Japanese: A...generous description of a sentence she says to Kairi to show she can speak a bit of the language.
"I thought it would be really cool to be like, "Ne Ne, Kairi-chan! Jordan was my kouhai in koukou-desu!"
  • Hidden Depths: She truly is pretty intelligent, having picked up and learned the C# programming language mostly by hand, and graduated valedictorian in her school.
  • I Just Wantto Be Free: She really enjoyed having more freedom in her life from her parents upon entering college.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved
  • It's All My Fault: How she feels about her not being able to have a brother, as complications during her birth rendered her mother unable to have children.
  • Mighty Glacier: Has very good DEF, but her AGL is low, compared to the others.
  • Noodle Incident: Has a few of these due to how vaguely she describes them.
    • One sub-event has her tell Reggie and Summer about how, after she and a previous boyfriend went into the school bathroom, the latter rubbed ’a slimy balloon with a nub’ in her hair.
    • During her second Arc event in Yuurei High School, she vaguely describes an incident about a boy she trusted who tricked her and broke up with her, who ‘moved out of the country’ after her parents got angry at them.
    • After the group gets drenched with sewer water, she mentions while messing around with Jordan that she 'hasn't splashed anyone with sewer water in forever'.
    • She never brings up what happened to her parents, other than implying that they’re dead, nor how she turned/got the scar on her left shoulder.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity
  • Old Money: Where her family's wealth came from.
  • Really Gets Around: According to Jordan, who went to the same school as Cici, there were rumors of her being this. The truth of the matter is more complicated. She was encouraged by her parents to sleep around so that they’d ‘owe’ her/her family down the road, and to just let them do what they want to her.
  • The Unfavorite: Cici says that her parents may have seen her as ‘a socialite chess piece’, and may have possibly resented her to some degree, because, due to complications during her birth, Cici’s mother was unfortunately rendered unable to have children again. She further implies that they had wanted a male heir, as well, and that it’s ‘her fault’ she doesn’t have a brother.
  • Secret Test of Character: Though it’s unknown if she intended it this way, her text adventure game Verbnounia serves as this for Reggie, to see if he actually cares about her for -her-, and not just her body. Trying to go through it quickly in her first Arc Scene, such as rushing towards something shiny and dying, has her chastise him for ‘rushing to the end’, and not exploring, also making you unable to go to her next Arc scenes on that playthrough if you don’t restart and do it properly. There seem to be a couple other such pitfalls in her other Arc scenes.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Stands at 5′9.
  • Street Smart: Both this and Book Smart
  • Stepford Smiler
  • The Nicknamer: Gives some of the others nicknames at times, such as 'Sums' for Summer, and 'Reggie-wedgie' for Reggie, to his chagrin.
  • The Tease: Loves to tease both sexually and playfully, sometimes both.
    Emily Brinehart
Voiced by: LilyPichu
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eb_2.png
Age: 20
Height: 5'10 ''
Former Blood Type: AB-
An enigmatic half-zombie girl who the party finds on the roof of Yuurei High School.
  • Chuunibyou
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Mentions in her final Arc scene that she had been passed around to many families, and sold on the black market to people who did research on her, which resulted in her current condition. After her transformation, she slaughtered all of them, hunted down the ones who sold her, and did the same to them in revenge.
  • Evil Laugh: Likes to give off these.
  • Fragile Speedster: Has very high AGI, but very low DEF.
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: Is very attached to her ‘vassal’ Dichroma, having received him from a follower as her first ‘offering’. She claims he can speak, though everyone can see her mouth moving while he 'talks', and Reggie humors her attempted ventriloquism.
  • Glass Cannon: She has the highest MAG stat, but the lowest DEF. Has the highest RES stat to compensate, however, so enemy magic will usually do almost nothing to her.
  • Hates Being Touched: Really doesn't like it when Cici glomps her out of nowhere. She relents on one occasion when Summer hugs her after the latter felt she was 'whining' about problems with her mom when Emily didn't have any family, with Cici knowing to hold back and not join in.
  • Hearing Voices: Claims to be able to commune with the 'Cosmic Ones'.
  • Never Be Hurt Again: Has trust issues due to her past of being passed from family to family, and sold off to be a research subject.
  • Patient Zero: Implied to be one, or at least one of the ‘Originals’, since, unlike the other girls, she can still eat normal, if expired, food just fine, just with no taste. The others can’t really keep it down.
  • Squishy Wizard: Having the lowest DEF stat, she’ll drop quickly if hit too hard.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Stands at 5′10, one inch taller than Cici, who is actually one year older than her, making her the tallest of the six girls.
    Buck Wampum
Voiced by: Ben Diskin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bw.png
A survivor who meets Reggie and Pearl after busting into the former’s house to loot the place. After agreeing to help them out, he drives them and the other half-zombie girls they meet around in his hybrid truck.
  • Action Survivor
  • Hero of Another Story: Though ‘Hero’ might not be the best way to describe him on his misadventures before meeting the others.
    • Joined a riot caused by the outbreaks just because, bringing his shotgun to it. After getting arrested during that, he had to escape jail as the inmates started turning and eating the others.
    • Stole a train from some hobos, which he then accidently drove off a cliff, while making an admittedly daring escape back up from while it was falling.
    • Caused a hoard of undead to swarm a military checkpoint by honking his truck’s horn constantly because of the holdup.
    • Convinced some people to orally siphon gas for his truck by saying they could go with him, then hightailed it out of there(to be fair, they started getting violent, and some may have turned, and he did at least throw a couple buckets out for them as he left).
  • Only Shop in Town: After the Qo L patch, you can exchange Scrap for basic items from him. No other shops exist in the game.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: None of the girls, bar Cici(possibly) are really too fond of him at first, though by the end, he’s as much of the group as the rest.

    Dr. Reginald P. Happenstahnce III
Reggie’s father, who was researching the virus before the outbreak.
  • Bear Hug: Said by Pearl to be able to give her, Reggie, and Jordan one of these all at once.
  • Hero of Another Story: He somehow got the 'Genesis Material' needed to manufacture the cure to the virus, which is what Reggie and the others are actually carrying around, not the actual cure.
  • Papa Wolf: After hearing Pearl being attacked by zombies when heading back to her house, he beat them all away to save her, though she turned soon after. After he was sure she wouldn't become like the mindless zombies, he tasked her with watching over Reggie while he left to go out and help people.
  • The Unseen: Only mentioned in passing by Reggie, Pearl and Jordan. Emily may know of him to some extent, as well. His writing and clues for the protagonists are left behind for them to find. He and Pearl’s father, and possibly others, seem to be on the move, possibly helping other survivors and the like on their own.
    Mr. Moira
Pearl’s father and Jordan’s uncle, who worked at the local police department.
  • The Alcoholic: Mentioned to be a bad one by Pearl. It's implied that Dr. Happenstahnce is trying to help him go clean, as best he can.
  • Abusive Parent:
  • The Unseen: Only mentioned in passing by Reggie, Pearl, Jordan, and notes left behind by Reggie’s dad. May also be out helping Reggie’s dad.
  • Kick the Dog: Once, when drunk, he made a young Pearl pick up the broken pieces of a glass of alcohol she broke from being angry at him, and proceeded to squeeze her hands together with the glass shards still in them. After coming to his senses and having her mom drive her to the hospital, she had to undergo lots of physical therapy just to get her hands’ motor skills back.
  • Pet the Dog: Two instances:
    • Is mentioned by Reggie in Jordan’s final Arc Scene to, have along with Pearl’s mom, agreed for Jordan’s sake to not have the news on for some time after the train accident that killed Jordan’s parents and others, as they were being blamed for the accident during it’s investigation.
    • According to Jordan, if you ask her about how she got her head wound, he blasted away all of the zombies attacking her, and was shocked when he saw that she had ‘died’, as now it was like his sister’s whole family was gone. He and Reggie's dad agreed to leave her there to be safe after she turned and wasn't mindless.
