The main protagonist, a photographer who is killed by Neo-Nazis for his photographic evidence only to be revived by divine intervention for a temporary reprieve so he can resolve the conflicts of his Big, Screwed-Up Family.- A Family Affair: The specific instance of infidelity that ended his marriage with Naná was when her sister Laila arranged for her to walk in on them having sex.

- Really Gets Around: His sleeping around is a huge contributing factor in creating his Big, Screwed-Up Family, as his wife divorced him for an affair he had with her sister that led to the conception of a daughter he didn’t know about.

The other main protagonist, an angel in training who named himself after Archangel Raphael. He is sent by heaven to accompany João on his journey and begins living on Earth like a mortal to do so. Soon, he begins to experience Humanity Ensues and starts being Brought Down to Normal in the process, along with falling in love with João’s illegitimate daughter Cuca.- Angelic Beauty: He’s rather easy on the eyes.
- Brought Down to Normal: Due to Humanity Ensues.
- Fish out of Water: As an angel living among mortals, he’s not entirely accustomed to human ideas of normal.
- Guardian Angel: For João.
- Hopeless Suitor: For Cuca who marries Breno by the end.
- Humanity Ensues: The longer he spends on Earth, the more human he becomes, and the more he loses his powers.

- Really 700 Years Old: He looks like a young man (and apparently is in the prime of his youth by angel standards), but is far older than any human, being thousands of years old.
- Really Gets Around: During his time as a mortal, he has sex with and impregnates no less than three human women from the fashion school.
- Trademark Favorite Food: Popcorn, which he sometimes eats for breakfast. After he gets Carol, Jô, and Alice pregnant, they all have a Wacky Craving for popcorn.
