Defense Teams in general

Humans who band together in the name of defeating enemy Kaiju, Defense Teams are a staple of the Ultra Series, with nearly every series having their own version of the concept.

• Armies Are Useless: Heavily Downplayed, especially compared to that other franchise about giant rampaging monsters, because while Defense Teams can take on Kaiju, they usually aren’t the ones taking them down.
• Badass Crew: Several teams of highly skilled military personnel taking on giant monsters.
• Cool Plane: Nearly every Defense Team has some form of personalized state-of-the-art aircraft for Kaiju battles. Ultraman Z ditches this trend in favor of giving its Defense Team Humongous Mecha.
• Expy: All of them, to some extent, are Expies of the original Science Patrol, since they all are teams of humans that band together in the name of defeating Kaiju while aided by an Ultra. There are also several reoccurring archetypes among the Defense Teams, such as The Captain and the Bridge Bunny.
