Harrison Memorial Hospital

    Gale Macones

Dr. Gale Macones

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dr_gale_twd_the_oath_3592.png

Portrayed By: Ellen Greene

Appearances: The Walking Dead Webisodes: The Oath

"So then I realized, I could help others in another way. No more violence, no more loss, no more pain. A release, on your terms."

A doctor at Harrison Memorial Hospital who encounters Paul and Karina as they seek medical attention.

  • Boom, Headshot!: Presumably at the hands of Paul.
  • Canon Foreigner: Never appeared in the comics.
  • Mercy Kill: She provides this to any survivors she meets who want to die on their own terms instead of being killed by the walkers. When Karina decides she wants to die, Gale injects her with a drug to let her die peacefully.
  • Sanity Slippage: She is clearly not all there in the head as a result of the horrific things she has witnessed being done by humans, not walkers, during the apocalypse.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: She kept watch over Rick after the hospital was deserted and he was still in a coma. It goes without saying that things in The Walking Dead would have turned out very differently if she hadn't.
  • Sole Survivor: She is the only survivor at Harrison Memorial Hospital except for the comatose Rick, who is only able to survive due to her presence. She says the rest of the staff and patients were either killed or fled the hospital.
  • Not Using the "Z" Word: She calls zombies "walking bodies."
  • Uncertain Doom: The last time we see her is with Paul pointing a gun at her head, telling him to shoot her if he thinks she is a murderer for providing mercy kills to those who give up hope, however, since she is not there when Rick wakes up, he almost certainly killed her.

King County Sheriff's Department

    Leon Basset

Leon Basset

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/LeonBassett_7865.png

Portrayed By: Linds Edwards

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 1)

Leon is a sheriff's deputy who served alongside Rick and Shane, he was present when Rick was shot. He was later infected during the initial stages of the outbreak, and shot by Rick upon being found as a walker.

Jones Family

    Morgan

    Jenny

Jenny Jones

Portrayed By: Keisha Tillis

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 1) | Fear the Walking Dead (Season 8)

Debut: "Days Gone Bye"

The wife of Morgan and the mother of Duane. She was infected early on in the outbreak and became a walker. Morgan was unable to put her down and she eventually killed Duane.

  • Cute Monster Girl: Because she turned very recently, Jenny looks fairly normal except for the sunken rings around her eyes and the inhuman expression on her face.
  • Happily Married: To Morgan, prior to her death.
  • It Can Think: In a case of Early-Installment Weirdness, her zombified body attempts to use the doorknob. Interestingly, this seemed to carry over into Morgan's story. It's implied that she and Duane were just staring at each other for a while before she lunged and bit him. Very much unlike any walker seen before. The Retcon in Season 11 retroactively makes her a variant.
  • Killed Offscreen: Both as a human and as a walker. She died before her first appearance and Morgan finally puts her down sometime before the events of "Clear."
  • The Lost Lenore: For Morgan.
  • Named by the Adaptation: She is unnamed in the comic.
  • Offing the Offspring: As a walker, she kills her son.
  • Posthumous Character: She is already dead by the time Rick encounters her family.
  • Staking the Loved One: Morgan's inability to do this to her results in her killing Duane.
  • Zombie Infectee: This is how she died.

    Duane

Duane Jones

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/duane_jones_wdtv_2208.png

Portrayed By: Adrian Kali Turner

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 1) | Fear the Walking Dead (Season 8)

Debut: "Days Gone Bye"

Duane is Morgan's son, who is attempting to deal with the loss of his mother and the Zombie Apocalypse. He is eventually bitten by his zombiefied mother on a supply run and put down by Morgan.

  • And Then John Was a Zombie: Gets bitten and turned by his own mother. Morgan was unable to bring himself to put him down until many years later.
  • Back for the Dead: Played With. He’s already dead, but he returns in Fear the Walking Dead as a walker that Morgan brings himself to put down, finally letting his son rest in peace.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Unlike his comic book version, Duane in the show has poor grammar, heavy use of profanity, and is much more aggressive when first attacking Rick.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: Morgan's descent into cynicism is triggered by him being bitten by Duane's zombified mother, forcing Morgan to put down both mother and son.
  • Morality Pet: Years after his death, Morgan confides in Rick that the only reason he didn’t kill him when they first met was because Duane was right there watching. It hits home with Rick, who has just lost his own son and whose last wishes were that Rick not slaughter the Saviors as he just did.
  • Put on a Bus: At the end of the pilot episode, followed by a Bus Crash in Season 3. By the time Rick returns to King County, he's already (un)dead and turned into a walker. He returns in Season 8 of Fear when Morgan returns to King County to finally put him down.
  • Shovel Strike: In the first episode, he uses this on Rick.
  • Tagalong Kid: Duane doesn't do much, considering he is still just a kid. He mostly just follows his father and Rick around, but at least gets trained by Rick. He also seems the most scared of the walkers, though mostly of his walker mother. Which sadly causes his death in-between seasons.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Only involved in one episode and referenced in another before we find out that he died.

  • And Then John Was a Zombie: We all know what happened to her.
  • Ascended Extra: Got turned from just being a very notable walker in the first episode to the protagonist of a six part webisode series.
  • Doomed by Canon: The webisodes were advertising that Hannah would become the bicycle girl walker, so that made this a given.
  • Eaten Alive: Allows herself to be eaten so that her children have a chance to escape while the walkers are distracted.
  • Half the Woman She Used to Be: The walkers eat so much of her that the only thing left to reanimate is her top half.

  • Mama Bear: The moment her kids are threatened she picks up an axe and goes to town on walker!Judy. She also sacrifices herself to the walker horde chasing her and her children so the kids could escape while their pursuers were busy killing her.

  • Named by the Adaptation: The bicycle girl in the comics was never given a name or background.
  • The Nth Doctor: She is played by Lilli Birdsell in the pilot and Melissa Cowan in the webisodes.
  • Tragic Monster: As the Bicycle Girl Walker.
  • White Shirt of Death: Literally and figuratively.
  • Zombie Infectee: One of the walkers manages to tag her while she, Jamie and Billy finally make a break for it. She decides to die protecting her children than succumbing to the infection.

  • Canon Foreigner: Never appeared in the comics.
  • Eaten Alive: By his neighbors kids after he failed to put them down earlier.
  • Mercy Kill: Is forced to perform one on Palmer in exchange for his guns.
  • Shoot the Dog: Literally: his dog gets attacked by a walker so he shoots it to put it out of its misery.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Walking alone, without a flashlight, into a dark basement, during a Zombie Apocalypse. The crunch followed by the scream was no surprise.
  • Wouldn't Hurt a Child: Not even a zombiefied kid: this comes back to bite him in the ass when he gets eaten by Palmer's kids, who he had decided not to shoot earlier after Palmer asked him to.

    Billy

Billy

Portrayed By: Griffin Cleveland

Appearances: The Walking Dead Webisodes: Torn Apart

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/karina_twdtv_4559.jpg

Portrayed By: Ashley Bell

Appearances: The Walking Dead Webisodes: The Oath

Karina is one of two survivors the walker herd attacking the Rockford tent city.

  • Accidental Murder: She tells Dr. Gale that during the early days of the Zombie Apocalypse, she shot a man in the woods after mistaking him for a walker and he choked to death on his own blood. When a small girl with the man started screaming, Karina panicked and fled.

  • All There in the Manual: It's revealed he chained the hospital cafeteria doors and painted "DONT OPEN DEAD INSIDE" on them.
  • Canon Foreigner: He never appeared in the comics.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted: There are four other Pauls in The Walking Dead TV universe: one at Woodbury, a minor character in the Dead Reckoning flash game, a recurring Reaper, and finally, and most importantly, Paul "Jesus" Rovia, the Number Two guy at the Hilltop.
  • The Promise: Like all members of their group, he swore an oath upon joining that "One lives. All live." When he discovers that Karina killed herself when she thought he was dead instead of living up to the oath, he is disappointed and angry, but swears to live up to it himself and takes walker!Karina with him.
  • Sole Survivors: He and Karina are the only ones who escape the walker attack on their group. He becomes the only survivor after Karina commits suicide.

  • All There in the Manual: Only appears in the AMC website flashgame.

  • Zombie Infectee: Gets bitten by her zombie boyfriend, and later turns at the police station.

Other King County Characters

    Bank Robbers

Bank Robbers

Portrayed By: Tommie Mack Turvey (Bank Robber #1), Chick Bernhardt (Bank Robber #2), Brent Bernhard (Bank Robber #3)

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 1)

A trio of bank robbers who are pursued by the King County Sheriff's Department at the start of the pilot episode. Though they are extremely minor characters in the grand scheme of things, their foiled robbery leads to Rick being shot in the back and ensures that he is asleep in the hospital while the start of the apocalypse is underway.

  • Asshole Victim: All of them, though Robber #3 deserves a special mention for shooting Rick.
  • Badasses Wear Bandanas: Downplayed with Robber #3, who is the only one of the group to wear a bandana. Unlike his comrades who are quickly killed, he manages to do a little damage to one of the officers who ran them off the road (Rick). However, it's out of a cowardly, last-ditch effort more than anything, and he's immediately shot in the chest by Rick's partner Shane for his trouble.
  • Character Death: All three are gunned down by the King County police.
  • For Want Of A Nail: If Robber #3 hadn't shot Rick, the events of the series would have turned out very differently. A hallucination of Shane lampshades this while talking to Rick in "What Comes After".
Shane: That third man changed everything, didn't he?
  • Multiple Gunshot Death: Robber #1 is killed by a hail of bullets from the King County police.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Robber #3. Him shooting Rick ensures that Rick is comatose in the hospital when the apocalypse starts, and thus, unable to get his family to safety.

    The Hitchhiker

The Hitchhiker

Portrayed By: Russ Comegys

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 3)

A hitchhiker encounter by Rick, Carl, and Michonne on the road. He is the original owner of the orange backpack.

  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Pleads with the survivors to stop and let him into the car. They don't.
  • Brick Joke: This is basically what his storyline amounts to.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Comes back to bite him, literally. He might've outrun the walkers if he hadn't been weighed down by frying pans and other assorted gear.
  • Devoured by the Horde: His ultimate fate.
  • Iconic Item: His orange backpack, which survives far longer than he does and is used by various characters sporadically throughout the next seven seasons, up until Michonne has a dream in which she imagines herself as the hitchhiker in Season 10's "What We Become".
  • Killed Offscreen: He dies sometime between the beginning and the end of the episode, but we never see it.
  • One-Shot Character: Only appears in the episode "Clear." He is revisited in “What We Become”, a Season 10 episode in which Michonne, suffering a horrible drug trip, imagines herself in his place as the orange backpack-wearing survivor begging for Rick’s help.
  • Red Shirt: His only purpose is to show how cold the survivors have become.

National Guard Group

    In General

National Guard Group

Portrayed By: Julio Cesar Cedillo, Gary Weeks, Troy Faruk, Mike Mayhall, Dwayne Boyd, Matthew Austin Murray, Philip Dido, Scott Dale, Bob Fisher

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Seasons 1-3)

A small group of National Guardsmen with a large amount of military hardware, including a helicopter. They are killed by the Governor for their supplies.

  • And Then John Was a Zombie: Sean reanimates after death and is put down by the Governor. The Woodbury soldiers are kind enough to prevent this from happening to the rest.
  • Black Dude Dies First: Sean, who is thrown from the helicopter during the crash and sliced in half by the blades.
  • Dangerous Deserter: Averted. They seem pretty friendly.
  • Every Helicopter Is a Huey: Their helicopter.
  • I Surrender, Suckers: The Governor rides up waving a white flag to lull them into a false sense of security.
  • The Lancer: Corporal Brady serves as this to Lieutenant Welles, running the camp in his absence.
  • Once a Season: Their helicopter appears once in each of the first three seasons in "Days Gone Bye," "Beside the Dying Fire," and "Walk With Me."
  • Red Shirt: None of them get any characterization and only exist to be killed by the Woodbury survivors.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: They die to show the audience what kind of person the Governor is.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: They fled their posts with a lot of gear in tow after an outbreak at the refugee camp they were guarding.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: First, Rick follows their helicopter directly into a swarm of walkers, leading to him getting trapped in the tank and meeting the Atlanta survivor camp. Furthermore, this also inadvertently starts up the herd that drives the group off the farm. When the helicopter crashes, it brings Andrea and Michonne into contact with the Woodbury survivors. Then the audience sees the Governor's true nature when he slaughters the remaining soldiers. Finally, the Woodbury army uses its weaponry in their war with Rick's group.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Flying over Atlanta starts up the herd that drives Rick's group off the Greene Family Farm and kills Jimmy and Patricia in "Beside the Dying Fire."

    Lt. Welles

Lieutenant Welles

Portrayed By: Julio Cesar Cedillo

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 3)

The leader of the National Guard group. After the helicopter crash, he is taken hostage by Woodbury and later executed.

Martinez's Group

    In General

A group of around thirty survivors living in a makeshift camp in rural Georgia. Caesar Martinez founds the group after abandoning the Governor, who eventually finds him and joins the group under the alias "Brian Heriot" along with the Chambler family. He kills Martinez and takes control of the group, using them to attack the prison for a final confrontation with Rick's group that gets all of them killed, including himself.

  • And Then John Was a Zombie: One of them, a man in a red plaid jacket, gets shot in the chest by Lizzie Samuels. He later reanimates and is used as a pet walker by Michonne in "After."
  • Canon Foreigner: The group never appears in the comic.
  • Expy: The camp and some of its residents bear a strong resemblance to the Atlanta survivor camp from Season 1.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Due to them knowing nothing about The Governor and who he truly is behind closed doors, they eat up his word about the Prison survivors and go to war with them, leading to most of them getting killed in the process.
  • Mildly Military: A number of them have military experience.
  • Redshirt Army: The Governor gets them all killed.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: We never find out what happens to the members who stayed behind with Lilly and Meghan, while the militia went off to fight the Prison group.

    Martinez

    Mitch

Mitch Dolgen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mitch_dolgen_twdtv_8341.jpg
"What we want is what you got."

Portrayed By: Kirk Acevedo

Voiced By: Alejandro "Peyo" García (Spanish dub), Thomas Petruo (German dub)

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 4)

"End of the world don't mean shit when you got a tank."

Mitch is Pete's older brother. He was a tank operator in the army, but abandoned his post with his tank shortly after the Zombie Apocalypse started. He quickly finds a welcome place as The Governor's new lieutenant, helping lead the invasion of the prison. Mitch is killed by Daryl after using his tank to destroy the prison's defenses.

  • Asshole Victim: It's telling that Daryl still kills him after he surrenders.
  • Bald of Evil: Which he keeps covered with a military cap.
  • Canon Foreigner: He never appeared in the comics.
  • Character Death: Daryl shoots him in the chest with a crossbow.
  • Dangerous Deserter: Abandoned the military with his tank as soon as the shit hit the fan, and he is willing to kill other survivors to get supplies.
  • Dirty Coward: At a time when the world's militaries were losing their minds being strained to the limit trying to fight the walkers, he fled with his tank. He's also all too happy to attack the prison when backed up by said tank, being all cocky, but once he loses it and Daryl has him dead to rights, he clearly attempts to surrender.
  • The Dragon: To Martinez. Becomes one to the Governor after the latter murders Pete.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Averted. At first, he's angered and saddened by Pete's death at the hands of the Governor but he gets over it very quickly and becomes the Governor's dragon.
  • Hate Sink: He's just there to be somebody to hate.
  • Jerkass: He is a total asshole to everybody. He is actually somewhat similar to Merle, but without the redeeming qualities.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: He looks genuinely devastated when the Governor tells him that he murdered his brother... but it only takes one monologue for Mitch to forget all about this and become The Dragon to the Governor.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: After Daryl forces him into the open with a grenade rolled down the barrel of the main cannon, detonating inside the tank, Mitch surrenders to him. It doesn't do any good, however.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Mitch is the more violent and jerkish of the two Dolgen brothers.
  • Sleeves Are for Wimps: Wears tank tops and vests, which show off his muscular build.
  • Smug Snake: At the face-off at the prison he smugly orders Rick to leave and is delighted when The Governor instigates the ensuing war.
  • Sociopathic Soldier: He has no problem with murder or theft, stealing a tank when he bailed out on the Army at the first convenient oportunity.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute:
    • He appears to be one for Merle, as a ruthless Jerkass with a Sibling Yin-Yang type relationship with his more compassionate younger brother. He even becomes The Governor's new Dragon, and ultimately proves to be worse than Merle due to not seeking revenge for The Governor killing his brother.
    • He is also similar to Shane, being a bald second-in-command to a reasonable brunette man that he was once very close to and whom he often butts heads with.
  • Tank Goodness: He was a tank operator in the army, and still has his tank with him at the camp.

    Pete

Pete Dolgen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pete_dolgen_twdtv_3004.jpg

Portrayed By: Enver Gjokaj

Voiced By: Cholo Moratalla (Spanish dub), Bernhard Völger (German dub)

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 4)

Pete is Mitch's younger brother, and was part of the army like him. He was stationed at Fort Benning before abandoning his post and joining his brother. After the death of Martinez, he tries to take over, but The Governor quickly kills and usurps him for being too good-hearted.

  • And I Must Scream: His walker self is left to rot at the bottom of a lake for all eternity.
  • And Then John Was a Zombie: He reanimates after being dumped in a nearby lake by the Governor, with a chain attached to his ankle to weigh him down.
  • Canon Foreigner: He never appeared in the comics.
  • The Chains of Commanding: Feels them immediately after taking the camp leadership position following the death of Martinez, as he mentions to the Governor while the two are having a conversation.
  • Dragon Ascendant: He goes from The Dragon (more of the Dragon Their Feet) to the leader in "Dead Weight" after Martinez's death.
  • In the Back: Gets it both literally and figuratively in "Dead Weight", courtesy of the Governor.
  • Nice Guy: He refuses to kill or steal supplies from other survivors, instead of wanting to have them join their group. His attitude ultimately gets him killed, as the Governor sees him as weak.
  • Number Two: To Martinez.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Pete is the more level-headed and compassionate of the two Dolgen brothers.
  • Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids!: The reason that he's taken out of power by the Governor, who stabs him in the back figuratively and literally.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: A dark-haired brunette who's rather good-looking.
  • Token Good Teammate: He refuses to steal supplies from another camp of survivors.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Killed in his first appearance.

    Alisha

Alisha

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alisha_twdtv_1892.jpg

Portrayed By: Juliana Harkavy

Voiced By: Beatriz Berciano (Spanish dub), Victoria Sturm (German dub)

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 4)

Alisha was in the army reserve before the Zombie Apocalypse. She quickly strikes up a romance with Tara, but falls hook line and sinker for The Governor's plan to attack the prison. She is dismayed when The Governor kills Hershel but joins the fight regardless, and is killed by Lizzie.

  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: With Tara, initially.
  • Boom, Headshot!: Courtesy of Lizzie.
  • Canon Foreigner: She never appeared in the comics.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Judging from the look on her face when she turns and sees Lizzie holding a gun, she likely would not have actually harmed her. Unfortunately, the opposite can't be said of Lizzie...
  • Forgotten Fallen Friend: Despite hitting it off with Tara, the latter doesn't seem too concerned with her death after the prison falls.
  • I've Come Too Far: When the Governor's group begins its assault on the prison, Tara tries to talk her out of the raid only for Alisha to tell her that they're passed the point of no return.
  • Lipstick Lesbian: Very feminine in appearance.
  • Vasquez Always Dies: By far the most combat-proficient of the named females in the Governor's party, and the only one to die. On-camera, at least — Lilly Chambler is also mentioned by her sister Tara to have been Killed Offscreen sometime after the battle in "Too Far Gone".
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Killed in her second episode.
  • Wouldn't Hurt a Child: Deconstructed. One of the children she fails to kill is a Creepy Child who doesn't think twice about shooting her in case she averts this trope.

Others

    The Hermit

The Hermit

Portrayed By: Alex Van

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 3)

A hermit living in the woods. The rescue party heading for Woodbury encounters him on their way, and when he proves to be a nuisance he ends up impaled by Michonne and killed.

  • Devoured by the Horde: His body is fed to a walker herd as a distraction while Rick's group escapes his cabin.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Courtesy of Michonne.
  • One-Shot Character: He only appears in a single scene and his only plot importance is to be fed to walkers so that the main characters can survive.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Bizarrely, he doesn't even seem to realize he's in the middle of an apocalypse. He completely ignores Rick when he points out there are walkers outside his cabin; instead, he tries to make a dash for the door, which only earns him a katana blade through the back from Michonne. It's quite possible given the dead dog in his cabin that the Hermit had gone insane or been isolated in the woods for so long, he really didn't know what was happening in the world.

    Clara

Clara

Portrayed By: Kerry Condon

Voiced By: Mar Bordallo (Spanish dub)

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 4)

Clara is an Irish survivor who became stuck in Georgia with her husband Eddie after the airports were shut down. She encounters Rick in the Season 4 premiere, asking for help getting food to her walker husband. Rick sees through the ruse and reluctantly deals her a mortal blow to finish her off.

  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Due to the trauma of zombie apocalypse and losing her husband.
  • And Then John Was a Zombie: She reappears in "Too Far Gone", now a walker, and part of a herd that invades the ruined prison after being lured by the sound of gunfight and tank shots.
  • Calling Your Attacks: Deconstructed. She would have succeeded in killing Rick Grimes if she hadn't screamed as she charged him, thereby giving him a millisecond of warning.
  • Canon Foreigner: She never appeared in the comics.
  • Continuity Nod: The walker Clara appears in several blink-and-you-miss-it shots for several episodes after the prison falls.
  • Driven to Suicide: She stabs herself in the stomach after failing to kill Rick to feed to her walker-head husband, unable to live with the things that she and her husband have done to survive and wanting to become like him.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: Due to suffering starvation and probably illness.
  • Eternal Love: In a twisted way. Not only does she want to feed the undead head of her husband, she then takes her life to be like him.
  • Expy: She may have been influenced by The Stranger from the video game, who also lost his mind after losing his loved ones in the woods, and spoke to their zombified head in a bag.
  • Sanity Slippage: She has clearly become unhinged, as Rick discovers when her husband is just his decapitated walker head.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Killed in her first appearance.

    Ana

Ana

Portrayed By: Brina Palencia

Voiced By: Adelaida López (Spanish dub), Ayumi Nagao (Japanese dub), Julia Kaufmann (German dub)

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 4)

A girl Rick and Carol found hiding in a house while they were looking for medical supplies. She's quite inexperienced with walkers and has managed to stay unusually optimistic with the help of her boyfriend Sam. They are on the verge of joining Rick's group when they are attacked by walkers, and Ana is quickly killed and eaten thanks to her badly healed leg.

  • Bury Your Disabled: Her leg didn't heal well after she got trampled, meaning if she was ever chased by walkers, she wouldn't make it very far, so this combined with the fact that Rick was hesitant to add more people to the group made it unlikely that she was going to last long after leaving the house she was hiding in. Sure enough, it’s strongly implied this is indeed what got her killed when Rick and Carol find her leg separated from her body.
  • Canon Foreigner: She never appeared in the comics.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Due to her badly-healed leg.
  • Devoured by the Horde/Killed Offscreen: Rick and Carol finds her badly-healed leg severed from her body and the rest of her being devoured by walkers.
  • Kill the Cutie: Ana, who is as cute as Rory gets eaten in her first appearance.
  • Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy: Takes six shots just to kill one walker.
  • Love Interest: For Sam, who saved her after she was trampled.
  • The Pollyanna: For someone trying to survive the zombie apocalypse with a bum leg, she's oddly optimistic.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Dies in the same episode she was introduced.

    Sam

Sam

Portrayed By: Robin Lord Taylor

Voiced By: Iván Jara (Spanish dub), Jeffrey Wipprecht (German dub)

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Seasons 4-5)

A young man Rick and Carol find with a dislocated arm who was hiding out with his girlfriend Ana. He's unusually trusting and optimistic. After losing Ana to walkers and losing contact with Rick and Carol, he embarks on a quest to find sanctuary at Terminus, only to end up butchered by the community of cannibals, his faith in humanity proven horribly, horribly wrong in his final moments.

  • Canon Foreigner: He never appeared in the comics.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: After being captured by Terminus, he gets his head bashed in by an aluminum bat, and then gets his throat slit and bleeds out into a trough. Worse, he recognized Rick before he was killed, and dies thinking that both he and his old friend are both going to die a terrible death at the hands of evil people.
  • The Cutie: Like his girlfriend, he's unusually optimistic and trusting.
  • Hero of Another Story: He evidently went on an adventure to find Terminus after Ana was killed. However...
    • Shoot the Shaggy Dog: It's rendered meaningless when he's brutally killed by the Terminus butchers only a few seconds after reappearing.
  • Kill the Cutie: He's slaughtered like a pig by the Terminus residents in the opening scene of Season 5.
  • Not Using the "Z" Word: He and Ana call zombies "skin-eaters."
  • Sacrificial Lamb: The very first casualty of Season 5. As an added Gut Punch he's killed only a few seconds after making his reintroduction.
  • Slashed Throat: After being hit in the head by a bat, a Termite cuts his throat over a trough.
  • Sudden Sequel Death Syndrome/Back for the Dead: He's the first casualty of Season 5, having been captured and then slaughtered like a pig by Terminus during the opening. Rick recognizes him and is unable to help him.
  • The Apocalypse Brings Out the Best in People: He seemed to believe in this.
  • Took a Level in Idealism: After the outbreak happened, he began to like people more and became more trusting of them as well.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Oddly, he claims to like people more now in the Zombie Apocalypse, instead of being mistrustful or weary of them like most other survivors. Considering his fate, he should've thought better.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: He seems to believe that the apocalypse brings out the best in people. Terminus proves him wrong the hard way.

    Eastman

"I've come to believe that all life is precious. That's why we're having oatmeal burgers."

Portrayed By: John Carroll Lynch

Voiced By: Pedro Tena (Spanish dub), Kotaro Nakamura (Japanese dub)

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 6)

"We're not built to kill. We don't have claws, fangs or armor. Vets, they came back with PTSD. That didn't happen because we're comfortable with killing. We're not. We can't be. We feel. We're connected."

A survivor who Morgan encountered after leaving King County. Once a forensic psychiatrist, he lost his family to a genuinely evil man, but after killing the man, he swore an oath to never take another human life. He rehabilitates Morgan from his crazed depression, passing on his oath before he dies of a walker bite.

  • Actual Pacifist: He swore a solemn vow to not kill another living thing, even in self-defense. Although this trope is downplayed in that he will fight if he's forced to, his emphasis on Aikido means that even when defending himself he's usually just minimizing harm to his opponents in favor of simply redirecting their attacks away from himself.
  • Alliterative Name: Both his first and last names start with an E.
  • The Aloner: His only companion after the death of his family is a goat, Tabitha.
  • The Atoner: As penance for allowing a man to starve to death in a cell, he now adheres to Thou Shalt Not Kill.
  • Berserk Button: The one time he actually gets visibly pissed off with Morgan's initial self-destructive behavior is when he breaks a painting his late daughter did.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Eastman was a caring, gentle father and husband who could see the good in just about everyone. When one of his patients murdered his family, he locked him in a cell and watched him starve to death for over 40 days.
  • Canon Foreigner: Never appeared in the comics.
  • Combat Medic: He was a forensic psychiatrist before the apocalypse, and can also handle himself in combat thanks to his skill in aikido.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: It's nothing new for The Walking Dead, admittedly. Though, unlike most others, his tragedy took place before the Zombie Apocalypse.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Has a dry wit to him.
  • Death by Origin Story: The origin story in this case being the origin of Morgan's current ideology.
  • The Determinator: When the apocalypse started, he trekked through thirty miles of walker infested territory back to his house just so he could find the framed drawing his daughter had made for him.
  • Driven to Suicide: Implied to have shot himself in the head - or maybe had Morgan do it - after he's bitten.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Accepts his fate with remarkable grace after getting bitten. He even tells Morgan that he's "ready" to die.
  • Friend to All Living Things: The philosophy of aikido doesn't just apply to humans. Eastman is a vegetarian and even has a pet goat named Tabitha. When she is eaten by walkers he is clearly devastated.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: When Morgan freezes up while fighting a walker, Eastman pushes him out of the way and gets bitten instead.
  • Hero of Another Story: He receives more characterization and backstory (and an incredibly interesting one at that) than many characters who had more appearances than him.
  • Martial Pacifist: He is the one who taught Morgan how to fight, but not kill, his enemies.
  • The Mentor: To Morgan, helping him recover from his grief and insanity, and also training him in aikido.
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: Ends up getting bitten by a walker while saving the life of his protegé Morgan.
  • Nice Guy: One of the most genuinely good people in the entire series.
  • Posthumous Character: Only appears in the flashback episode "Here's Not Here", and is dead by the end of it.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He only ever appears in one episode, though everything that Morgan does from Season 5 on would not have happened without his intervention. It is very likely that Daryl and Aaron would have died had Morgan not happened across them in "Conquer," though everything after that point would be pure conjecture.
  • The Social Expert: Seeing as he was a forensic psychiatrist before the apocalypse, he is fantastic at reading people and finding out what makes them tick.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: He's where Morgan got his mindset from Season 5 onward.
  • Too Good for This Sinful Earth: A kind, thoughtful person even after the Zombie Apocalypse. Naturally, this means he gets killed.
  • Tragic Keepsake: A rabbit's foot that his daughter gave to him, and he passes it on to Morgan when he's dying.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Subverted in that while he dies in his first and only appearance, he's heavily fleshed out and is a major character in said episode.
  • White Shirt of Death: He is wearing a white shirt when he gets bitten.
  • Zombie Infectee: Gets bitten on the abdomen by a walker, and either kills himself or is given a Mercy Kill by Morgan because of it.

    Tabitha

Tabitha

Portrayed By: Ruby

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 6)

A goat owned by Eastman. During Morgan’s extended stay with Eastman, she escapes her pen and is killed and eaten by walkers.

    Crighton Dallas Wilton

Crighton Dallas Wilton

"Crighton Dallas Wilton went to my home and killed my wife, my daughter, and my son. He walked down the street to the police station around the corner covered in their blood. He surrendered. Said the only reason he broke out was to destroy my life."
Eastman

A criminal who murdered Eastman's family shortly before the onset of the apocalypse. Of the 825 patients he interviewed throughout his career, Eastman cites Wilton as the only truly evil person he ever encountered.

  • Arch-Enemy: Eastman was the only one not fooled by him, and successfully fought to keep Wilton behind bars. Thus, when Wilton finally found the opportunity to escape, he made sure this trope was cemented on both sides by slaughtering Eastman's family.
  • Ax-Crazy: Eastman describes him as committing some "truly unspeakable" acts, likely violent crimes. Then he slaughtered Eastman's family, including his two children.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Eastman calls him one of the most likable and charming people he'd ever met, which only served to conceal the vile psychopath he really was.
  • For the Evulz: He broke out of prison solely to murder Eastman's family, actually surrendering himself to the police afterward because he knew he'd accomplished everything he wanted.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: Wilton may have escaped proper legal justice, but he was not free from Eastman's wrath, and got exactly what was coming to him over a year later.
  • Karmic Death: After murdering Eastman's family, the man himself captured Wilton and imprisoned him in a cell where he watched him slowly starve to death over 47 days.
  • Mask of Sanity: Eastman describes looking into Wilton's eyes and seeing the exact moment his facade slipped and revealed the true depths of evil lurking beneath the surface.
  • Posthumous Character: He's long dead by the time Eastman tells Morgan about him.
  • Rage Breaking Point: The one time he dropped his Faux Affably Evil attitude and snapped is when Eastman revealed he knew what kind of monster Wilton really was and made a successful bid to the parole board deny his release. At which point Crighton tried to strangle Eastman to death, foiled only by Eastman's Aikido training.
  • Sadist: Killed Eastman's family purely to make him suffer.
  • The Sociopath: He was a personable son-of-a-gun according to Eastman, in addition to being a remorseless killer with zero empathy.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He killed both of Eastman's children, one of whom, his daughter, was only five years old.
