Gerda
The daughter of Master Vegard and Kai's older sister. Orphaned at a young age by the Snow Queen and separated from Kai, she reunites with her brother years later at St. Peter's Kids Shelter before setting off on a journey to rescue him and stop the Snow Queen.
- Action Girl: Particularly from the second film onwards, where she cleaves through ice monsters with ease.
- Badass Adorable: A cute girl who regularly takes on monsters and magical beings.
- Big Sister Instinct: Towards Kai. The first movie revolves around her journey to rescue him from the Snow Queen's clutches.
- Braids of Action: By the third movie, she's wearing her hair in braids, and she's no less badass than before.
- Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Has blonde hair, and is a kind and heroic person.
- Muggle Born of Mages: Gerda isn't magical in spite of having magical parents. The Snow Queen defies the notion that non-magical people can be born to magical parents and says Gerda's year of birth is the reason she hasn't developed her magic yet. She's proven right about Gerda having powerful magic.
- Youthful Freckles: Gains these in the third movie.
Kai
The son of Master Vegard and Gerda's younger brother.
- Distressed Dude: Is put in peril throughout the film and has to be rescued by Gerda.
- Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: The Feminine Boy to Alfida's Masculine Girl.
- Ship Tease: With Alfida.
Alfida
A young pirate girl.
- Action Girl: She's a good swordfighter and nasty with a pistol.
- Ascended Extra: Was only a minor character in the first movie, but becomes part of the main cast from the second film onwards.
- Free-Range Children: Moreso in the sequels than in the original film, but her mother usually lets her captain her own ship and go off and do her own adventures. Justified, as her mother is also a pirate and wouldn't be concerned with rules, and therefore wouldn't force any on her daughter.
- Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: The Masculine Girl to Kai's Feminine Boy.
- Pirate Girl: Is the daughter of a pirate captain and even captains her own ship.
- Ship Tease: With Kai.
Orm
A troll who used to serve the Snow Queen until he befriended Gerda.
- Butt-Monkey: Falls victim to a lot of slapstick throughout the films.
- Cowardly Lion: Initially terrified of the Snow Queen; however, when push comes to shove, he stands by Gerda and even takes on the Snow Queen's ice minions, transforming into a polar bear.
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Initially appears to be just a cowardly Butt-Monkey until he transforms into a polar bear and utterly wrecks the Snow Queen's minions.
- A Day in the Limelight: The Snow Queen 2 is primarily centered around him.
- Forgot About His Powers: The first film establishes he has shape-shifting abilities, including being able to transform into a polar bear. He never utilizes this ability again in the following movies.
- MookâFace Turn: He's the Snow Queen's servant in the first film, but after befriending Gerda, he gains the will to defect and stand against his former master.
- Shapeshifting: Can transform into a weasel and a polar bear.
- Wicked Weasel: One of the forms he takes is that of a weasel, and he spends the first film serving the Snow Queen.
