Heroes

    In General
  • Almighty Janitor: Red is a B-Rank adventurer and Yihdra is E-Rank, yet they're both clearly much stronger than their ranks suggests. For reference, Lowji, who they are of relative strength to, was the highest tier of adventurer, S-Rank, before becoming Teltina's Hero. The only reason they haven't climbed the ranks is because they've been so preoccupied with dealing with the Mana Seeds and Royal Demons that they literally forgot about their jobs as adventurers.
  • The Chosen Many: During the Demi-Human Federation arc, Professor Patchwork reveals that Red's companions have each awakened a Big Bond Soul like the Kizuna Five's, which leads them gaining additional extraordinary powers as they tap into Bond Energy in addition to their existing abilities. This Bond Energy gets used in a variety of ways, from Lowji creating the ability to use multiple forms of the Holy Sword at once, to Yihdra transforming into Kizuna Magus, to Teltina turning her Privilege Magic into a new armored knight form.
  • Cynic–Idealist Duo:
    • Yihdra is a studious, snobbish, opportunistic witch who considers her own dream of becoming Royal Scepter to be childish and unrealistic, and is wrathful towards those who insult her or her father. Red is an excitable Toku hero with Wrong Context Magic that literally runs on The Power of Friendship, who sincerely admires and supports Yihdra's dream, and is unfailingly friendly to even those who antagonize him. Yihdra is flabbergasted by Red's eccentricity at first but comes to appreciate his kind and supportive nature, while Red extols Yihdra's devotion to achieving her goals and using magic for good in the world.
    • Teltina is a friendly, playful, benevolent princess who seeks the best for all in her kingdom, while Lowji is her violent, paranoid, and condescending hero who is abrasive towards everyone except for her due to being ostracized for his lack of Mana. Teltina selects Lowji as her hero specifically because of his lack of magic, and Lowji swears absolute loyalty to Teltina and falls in love with her.
  • Generation Xerox:
    • It turns out that there is quite a bit of overlap them and the Legendary Heroes: Both teams had a Kizuna Ranger who died fighting the Break-Up King (Red and Silver), a surly Un-Sorcerer wielder of the Holy Sword (Lowji and Sabi), and an Amen (Raniya and Anuma).
    • They also parallel the party Prince Alteo formed three years prior, which consisted of himself, a member of the Avallost royal family whose Privilege Magic allowed him to destroy Mana Seeds, Rosalinda Theo, his personal knight who happened to be in love with him, Haodie Arvoln, the former Royal Scepter and Yihdra's father, and Ravan, who was Raniya's dad in addition to being the previous Amen.
  • Henshin Hero:
    • Both Red and Raniya are this, the former having previously been a member of his own "Super Sentai"-inspired team and the latter inheriting the power from her Kamen Rider-esque ancestor.
    • Yihdra winds up becoming one herself after her research on mana metal and Kizuna Energy as well as the development of her Big Bond Soul allows her to create her own Transformation Trinket and become Kizuna Magus.
    • Teltina gains her own GARO-inspired transformation in the form of Vlad Asena, which is the result of her using her Big Bond Soul to tame and assimilate her rampaging Mana Seed into a controllable form.
  • Light Liege, Dark Defender:
    • Inverted with Yihdra and Red. Yihdra is a conniving, vengeful Lady of Black Magic and scion of a line of mages banished from royalty, who hires Red as a bodyguard for her research. Red is an excitable and idealistic Toku All-Loving Hero.
    • Played straight with Teltina and Lowji. Teltina is a kind, playful, benevolent princess who selects Lowji as her champion. Lowji is a severe, paranoid, violently jealous warrior ostracized from society for his lack of magic, who swears Undying Loyalty to Teltina and falls in love with her.
Teltina: You need to be kinder and more understanding. Or you'll never be the kind of Hero that the people love.
Lowji: All I require is your love, Princess Teltina. Even if the rabble care not one iota for me, as long as I have your love I will be the kind of Hero who can slay even the Demon Queen.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Red is the Hot-Blooded, cheerful, and outgoing Red Oni to Lowji's aloof, cynical, and anti-social Blue Oni. This also goes down to their powers. Red invokes The Power of Friendship in all his attacks and considers the bonds he has with others to be his greatest strength, while Lowji prefers to work alone and the Holy Sword will suck anyone else dry of magical power if they try to wield it. Official illustrations also color Lowji's hair and armor as a deep blue to underscore how he's Red's opposite.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: Gender-inverted. Red's exuberant, Hot-Blooded Stock Shōnen Hero personality serves as a foil to Yihdra's opportunistic and grounded one. She reins him in when his larger-than-life personality is making things worse, and he inspires her to open up to others and seek her dreams as an adventurer.
  • Sword and Sorcerer: Red is the sword to Yihdra's sorcerer. His Lightning Bruiser abilities and preference for the Cooperation-Calibur lets him dice up monsters up close, and he can resort to explosive punches and kicks if need be. Meanwhile, Yihdra is able to use all kinds of magic, from water to ice to healing spells, allowing her to take on some enemies herself as well as heal Red in times of distress.
  • Three Plus Two: Inverted. The party originally consisted of the duo of Red and Yihdra, before being joined by Lowji and Teltina, and later Raniya.
  • Two Girls to a Team: Gender-Inverted. Of the five heroes, Red and Lowji are the only dudes amongst them.

"Just like how I was chosen to become 'Kizuna Red', there has to be some reason I was sent to this world. 'Til I find the reason I was sent here, I won't go back. Well, I don't know how to get back anyway! So if I can rescue people who need help and go on adventures at the same time, I'll be sure to find my reason for being here and how to get home!"

The partner of the Kizuna Beast Frien-D and fifth member of the Kizuna Five, a Sentai team that fought back against the nefarious Relationship Enders to save humanity from their wrath. After giving his life to defeat the Break-Up King once and for all, he finds himself unharmed in a world of magic and chivalry. While searching for a way home, he discovers that this world is plagued with the many of the same problems as his own world. And so he vows to protect the innocent and help anyone he can as an adventurer until running into Yihdra Arvoln, who hires him to help her with her magical research.

Tropes as Togo Asagaki

  • Accidental Misnaming: Red misnames Poseidon repeatedly, first calling him "Sebastian" and later "Telesdon" despite being corrected the first time.
  • Accidental Pervert:
    • Teltina purposefully neglects to tell Red that Yihdra is still using the hot springs as he prepares to take a dip in them himself. Both Red and Yihdra are horribly embarrassed by the affair.
    • Yihdra accidentally activates Red's Emergency Kizuna Warp by thinking about him while holding mana metal. She also happens to be in the bath at the time. Cue screaming as Red fumbles to get out of the bath. Afterwards, Yihdra performs a "thorough examination" of him to try and determine the connection between him, mana metal, and Bond Energy, giving him an eyeful of her breasts since she's wearing nothing but a bathrobe at the time.
  • Action Hero: Red's typical solution to solving his problems is to beat up the bad guy causing them. After all, he's a Sentai hero, he rarely needed to do anything else to save the day.
  • Adaptational Hairstyle Change: Red's hair is much more layered and angular in the anime, with the spiky bits of his Shōnen Hair flaring out much further compared to his manga counterpart's more subdued hair.
  • Adaptation Dye-Job: In the manga, Red's eyes and hair are dark, shining red like a jewel when the light hits it. The anime makes his eyes and hair a much brighter shade of red while giving his eyes topaz highlights.
  • Aesop Amnesia: Played for Laughs. After Red triumphantly declares that people should always try new things no matter how bad they are at them, Yihdra asks if he's willing to challenge his own fear of needles. By the time she turns around, Red is already striking his transformation pose and the guild explodes as he flees for the hills.
Yihdra: Hold on just a second! If you always run away from things you're bad at, you'll never grow, right?!
Red: That's that and this is this!! Bond Armor-CHANGE! [guild explodes]
Guild Manager: You two! Do that stuff outside!
  • Afraid of Needles: Red will face down any monster or threat with gusto to protect the weak and helpless. He doesn't fear death and won't hesitate to make a Heroic Sacrifice if it means his friends make it out alive. But he hates needles so much that he'd rather use his Transformation Sequence to make the guild explode than take an injection.
Red: [uncharacteristically meek] Please... anything but a shot!!
Yihdra: Are you kidding me? Where's all that courage you showed when you protected me after your back was clawed open?
Red: When it's a fight, I'm prepared for pain and can bear it, but shots are a completely different story!
  • All-Loving Hero: He strongly believes that people can overcome their differences through bonding together. Even after Lowji betrays him and tries to get him killed, Red easily finds it in his heart to forgive him (albeit, while running off the wrong idea). Then it's subverted when it's revealed that there are people even Red is reluctant to get along with, such as Professor Betrayis, who was transported to Yihdra's world a thousand years prior and has somehow extended his lifespan to the present day.
  • Ascended Fanboy: Implied. According to Red, performing a Transformation Sequence is something that every man longs for in his heart. He was so excited to do it for the first time that something happened to all of his blood vessels at once, though he's cut off before he can describe exactly what happened.
  • Audience Surrogate: Although he spent six months in the fantasy world before meeting Yihdra, many concepts still need to be explained to him, especially when magic is involved, introducing them to the reader at the same time.
  • Badass Adorable: Red turns into this after managing to fend off the effects of Connor's Privilege Magic and transforms while still a child.
  • Badass Normal:
    • Downplayed. Yihdra notes that Red's body has the same composition as any other human in her world. Despite this, he's capable of nigh-superhuman feats of strength even without transforming, tackling Yihdra's golem through a window and later throwing a Diving Kick into a monster. But against truly serious threats he has to transform as a Henshin Hero.
    • Even before becoming a ranger, Red regularly helped any club in high school out when asked and even competed in martial arts competitions despite not joining a club to practice. One flashback depicts him dominating a black belt in judo despite not having nearly as much experience.
  • Because Destiny Says So: He fully expected to die finishing off the Break-Up King, but instead finds himself in Yihdra's world. He believes that there's a reason he was sent here and vows to figure out what that reason is before searching for a way home. After meeting Yihdra and surviving the dragon together, Red becomes convinced that fate brought them together and swears to help her achieve her dreams. It's implied that the reason he believes so strongly in fate is because his friend, Kizuna Silver, was a perfectly accurate clairvoyant who predicted her death Taking the Bullet for him despite their attempts at trying to invoke Screw Destiny.
  • Beneath the Mask: Quite literally, Tougo uses Red's heroic persona to hide parts of his real self, Becoming the Mask. It's notable that after he's forced to use Kizuna Black, Red starts showing he's not the perfect, invincible hero he acts and starts behaving more like a guy his age. He reacts to Orphan kids mocking his Kizuna Red persona (and how his costume makes his ass look fat) with a face that has a "I'm gonna smack these brats" in contrast to when Yihdra poked fun at him earlier, even going off into a Corner of Woe to sulk. He's flustered in flashbacks when Silver and his other Kizuna members tease him for eyeing her up and later shows the same reaction when Teltina points out he does the same with Raniya and Yihdra. Then there's his frustration with Betrayis, especially when Betrayis throws his attempts to forge an alliance back in his face.
  • Berserk Button: Red can't tolerate anyone who goes out of their way to prey upon or sever the cherished bonds of others. Before he even knew what a Break-Up Fiend was, his first instinct after realizing that someone is trying to destroy his friendships was to dropkick Mangle Mouse in the face and declare that he's going to kill him.
  • Berserker Tears: Red is shedding these the entire time he's transformed into Kizuna Black, as it channels his obsession with bonds, his despair and his fear of loss into power he hopes will protect his loved ones.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Red's Hot-Blooded and cheery, bond-loving personality make it easy for him to get all sorts of silly hijinks that drive Yihdra and Lowji nuts. It's easy to forget that he's more than a match for all but the strongest fighters in Yihdra's world.
  • Big Eater: In the anime, Yihdra's attempt to look at Red's stats shows her a video of Red inhaling a plate of curry the size of an American football in seconds with a smile. Justified by his activities as a high school athlete and all the running around he does while being a Triple Shifter balancing his school work, social life, and duties as Kizuna Red.
  • Bodyguarding a Badass: Red is officially hired as a bodyguard for Yihdra while she conducts her research. While he's much stronger than her in a straight fight and far more experienced, Yihdra is quite strong herself and can hold her own in a fight against high-level monsters despite only recently becoming an adventurer.
  • Boke and Tsukkomi Routine: Red is the Boke to everyone else's Straight Man as they react to his Stock Shōnen Hero antics and strange weapons from another world while explaining concepts to him. Yihdra is the most frequent foil to Red, and she's shocked when Lowji barely shows any reaction to Red's Transformation Sequence.
Red: [after getting a lengthy explanation about mana-metal] In other words, you're trying to protect the bond between magic and man!
Yihdra: Well, I guess you could think of it that way.
  • Book Dumb:
    • Red isn't the brightest guy and the scenes of his life flashing before his eyes show him struggling to study. Despite this, he's a capable warrior and trope-savvy due to his adventures as the Red Ranger. He also comes up with clever (and crazy) solutions to some of his problems that even Yihdra can't come up with, such as dealing with Connor's Fountain of Youth power by using the Bond Energy to forcibly rebuild himself into an adult again.
    • In his childhood, Red's adoptive brother Kiyohiro would repeatedly try to help him with his studies and homework. But Red's difficulties with grasping the content proved so frustrating that Kiyohiro would punish Red's carelessness by whacking him over the head with a rolled up manual despite Kiyohiro's distate for violence.
  • Brainwash Residue: Red is a bond freak, and even though he was under Connor's Privilege Magic, he was still able to transform once Yihdra and Lowji were locked away because he felt compelled to save them.
  • Broken Ace: Aside from being an absolute powerhouse in a fight, Red is also an brave young man who is willing to put his life on the line to protect the innocent and beat the bad guys. His optimism and kindness are infectious, and his presence inspires the people around him while changing the fate of the world for the better. Even before becoming a ranger, Red was an athletic juggernaut who effortlessly succeeded at any sport he put his mind to, even dominating black belt judo practitioners despite not being a member of the judo club himself. His good looks and habit of helping anyone who asked also made him highly popular among the student body at school. However, he's got well-hidden, deep-seated issues related to abandonment, explaining his obsession with bonds which leads to his darker form: the Warrior of Deep Obsession.
  • Brought Down to Badass: When Red first arrived in Yihdra's world, he was completely unable to transform because he didn't have any bonds with anyone there, resulting in him running out of Bond Energy. He still manages to beat up monsters that are a struggle for veteran adventurers to fight with his bare hands until Amber's party runs into the boss monster, Orthros, who proceeds to ragdoll Red while he was trying to transform.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: While Red's Hot-Blooded Stock Shōnen Hero personality wouldn't be out of place in his own world, his obsession with bonds and constantly happy-go-lucky view on life makes him a weirdo to the people of Yihdra's world. Of course, he's still Kizuna Red, a One-Man Army who treats high-level monsters like small fry.
  • Cannot Keep a Secret:
    • Double Subverted. Red says that he tried to keep his Secret Identity a top secret back in his world. Yihdra is flabbergasted at the thought of someone as straightforward as Red keeping a secret that important, only for Red to cheerfully admit that he was exposed a week after becoming a ranger.
    • Played for Laughs in an extra story. Yihdra uses a magical device to peer into Red's memories of his world while he sleeps during a long trip. This winds up being projected as "episodes" of the Kizuna Five's adventures that Yihdra, Lowji, Teltina, and Raniya watch together. Given the nature of the genre, these "episodes" often ended on cliffhangers when Red wakes up. He quickly spills what happens next while the others are talking about what they saw, resulting in them getting angry at him for spoiling the story's events.
  • Catchphrase: As a Toku hero whose powers literally run on The Power of Friendship, Red is prone to inserting the words "bond" and "friendship" into the conversation whenever possible even when it makes barely any sense. He also ends fights with "Our bond wins!"
  • Chaste Hero: Subverted. Despite being Oblivious to Love, he still is capable of noticing how beautiful Yihdra is. It's revealed that he fell in love with Kizuna Silver at first sight and is still hurting after she sacrificed herself to save him. It's later revealed that he fell in love with Yihdra around the same time that she fell in love with him, but is so scared of loss and being responsible for another person's death that he talked himself into believing that he only saw her as a friend.
  • Chick Magnet: Red's optimism, unflagging support for Yihdra, and tendency to make the impossible seem possible quickly earns her affections without him even thinking about dating her. Chapter 14 reveals that at least two members of the Kizuna Five expressed interest in him and he considers Kizuna Silver to be The Lost Lenore, with her death being his greatest failure. Even before he became Kizuna Red, Togo was consider a major "hottie" by his underclassmen.
  • The Chosen One:
    • Red's coming was foretold by the prophet that traveled with the Hero who sealed away the Demon Queen a thousand years ago. Said prophet assured the Sun Elves that a "red warrior from another dimension" would deliver them from a great disaster that would befall their village.
    • Later on, it's revealed that Red's Big Bond Soul is the reason why only he can defeat the Demon Queen. She, the Break-Up King, and the Undead King are all of a species capable of disrupting the cycle of reincarnation and can simply perform a Grand Theft Me if they're ever killed because their soul and memories will remain intact. Only Red's soul can forcibly return them into the cycle of reincarnation, wiping their memories and powers after their defeats and preventing them from returning.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome:
    • As expected of a Toku-flavored Stock Shōnen Hero, Red will help anyone in need without a second thought. Others around him are alarmed by how readily he agrees to aid people.
Raniya: I realize this isn't the kind of thing to ask total strangers... especially of another race... But... please, would you be willing to help us!?
Red: [immediately] Yeah! You got it!
      Raniya: J-Just like that!?
Red: If someone needs help, I help 'em, no questions asked! Doesn't matter what race they are, or if it's only been a second since I met them!
    • Before he joined the Kizuna Five, Red regularly volunteered to help numerous clubs at school without actually joining any of them, competing as part of the Judo Club and Basketball Club and even singing in the school choir. His underclassmen considered his "meddling" nature to be a charm point of his, while his adoptive brother and Best Friend Kiyohiro berates him for feeling the need to help everyone who is in the slightest amount of trouble.
  • Clothing Damage: The right arm of Red's ranger uniform is ripped off and the visor of his mask is shattered by the time he defeats the Break-Up King. It's fixed by the time he lands headfirst in another world. His jacket is later shredded by a dragon while pulling a Diving Save to rescue Yihdra, but it's perfectly fine a few days later.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Red's toku hero sensibilities and unwavering belief in The Power of Friendship to the point of being a Love Freak makes him come across as airheaded and bizarre to the denizens of Yihdra's world. He's easily sidetracked by his desire to bond with others, sometimes struggles to read the room, and approaches everything with Hot-Blooded candor.
  • Commonality Connection:
    • Red bonds with Teltina over their willingness to sacrifice themselves for the sake of others and knowledge that there are things only they can do to help others.
    • Red manages to talk down Connor by explaining his own nerdy love of toys to the point of being ridiculed for it back in his world. Red believes that Connor can strive toward a world not unlike his own where children and adults alike can express their appreciation for toys without judgement.
  • Covert Pervert: In spite of his usual behavior, Red is still very much a hormonal, heterosexual teenage boy. He has a preference for large breasts and Teltina later reveals that he steals glances at Yihdra's and Raniya's chests much to his embarrassment. A recording left by Silver also reveals that Red kept glancing at her own chest every five seconds whenever they talked to each other. Later on, he openly calls her and her outfit extremely sexy after he and Yihdra confess their feelings for one another and unlock a new Bond Armor for Red in the process.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Red hair and fiery eyes.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: It's revealed in Chapter 14 that Red is an orphan who lost his parents in a car accident when he was still a young child. His remaining family and their friends refused to look after him on account of the costs of raising him, leaving Red with extreme abandonment issues and fear of loss. It's also revealed that Kizuna Silver died protecting him against the Break-Up King's forces back when he was still on Earth. He feels responsible for making her premonition of her death come true by convincing her to join the Kizuna Five.
  • David vs. Goliath: Red is the Goliath when he pulls out the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser to take on Lowji, but soon finds that it's simply too big to properly aim at and hit a much smaller target. Meanwhile, Lowji is strong enough to push the Humongous Mecha back, and is only defeated when Red uses the Great Bond Sword to blow Lowji away. Super-Strength or not, something human-sized will be sent flying when confronted with hurricane-force winds.
  • Declaration of Protection: Red promises to protect Yihdra and her dream of making everyone happy when they're cornered by the dragon hoarding all the mana-metal. He almost kills her immediately afterward with his Transformation Sequence, which she lampshades.
Red: Yihdra! I told you didn't I? I've fallen for your dream. One day you'll definitely achieve it, and bring a smile to everyone's faces! It's an amazing dream! That's why, protecting you and your dreams is my duty!
  • Defeat Equals Friendship:
    • Red's weapons seem to be designed with this in mind, given how they're named after acts of peacemaking and love (i.e. his Cooperation-Calibur) even if the monsters on the other end don't feel it. Even his Humongous Mecha's proportionately-sized BFS is inscribed to look like a Band-Aid. Sure enough, Lowji begins to begrudgingly respect Red for his abilities after he sends Lowji flying into the distance, and Red suspects that they'll become great friends based on his past experience with people like Lowji.
    • When Raniya declares her resolve to defeat her Evil Former Friend Azir, Red says that's the perfect opportunity to reconcile. Raniya is baffled by Red and initially wonders if he's even listening to her, as there's no way things can just go back to the way they were now that she and Azir are enemies. But Red says that's how they can form an even stronger bond once they're able to sit down and talk, citing his own experiences after he was forced to fight his best friend and adoptive brother Kiyohiro, who was transformed into a monster by the Relationship Enders.
  • Destructive Saviour:
    • Red's powers make him a One-Man Army on the battlefield, but his tendency to make stuff explode ruins all the drop items from the monsters he defeats. Because of this, he's never able to fulfill any quests to make money and no one wants to party with him out of fear for their paychecks. He also nearly kills Yihdra while trying to protect her as she's nearly caught in the explosion of his Transformation Sequence. Teltina lampshades what a Person of Mass Destruction he is, calling him far more dangerous than any of the monsters produced by the Mana Seeds if left unchecked.
    • When faced with a monster with complete control over a city, Red proposes using the Kizuna Kaiser to obliterate it from a distance. Yihdra and Teltina point out that this would also leave the city in ruins. He then proposes having the Kaiser stomp all over the mansion, but the girls again point out that the shockwaves would still turn the city to rubble.
    • After Red completely loses himself to the Black Bond Plate, Lowji has to stop him from destroying the Sun Village following Red's Curb-Stomp Battle over Abudabi and Vidan
  • Didn't Think This Through: Red still acts and fights like he's on a Sunday morning TV show. Because of this, he's constantly destroying the valuable drop items he should be getting from monsters, summons the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser in situations it isn't suited for (i.e. in a cave), though admittedly he was prompted to do that by Yihdra, or against a human-sized target and sends Lowji flying with the Great Bond Sword before realizing that Lowji would probably die from being thrown such a distance.
  • Don't Call Me "Sir": Raniya tries to call Red "Lord Legendary Red Warrior", but Red asks her to stop and just call him Red.
  • Dreadful Musician: Despite his natural talents as an athlete and fighter, Red is a poor singer. While he has the enthusiasm down, his technique leaves something to be desired. The people listening to him sing look like they're in pain when he volunteers to help his school choir. The anime has a short scene of him humming the Kizuna Five's theme song while heading to a bath and he's out of key the whole time.
  • Dull Eyes of Unhappiness: A seven-year-old Red had eyes completely devoid of life at his parent's funeral after everyone else left while muttering about how they can't afford to take care of him. In that moment, he realized just how alone he was, beginning his obsession with bonding with others to soothe the pain in his heart.
  • Dynamic Entry:
    • Red meets Yihdra by tackling her golem through a wall and window of her mansion. He also brings Yihdra to the Ruins of Wakenark by using his Turbo Engine to send them flying there, punching straight through multiple flying monsters in the process and leaving Yihdra covered in viscera and feathers.
    • He also performs a Diving Kick to rescue Lowji and Teltina from Louluguat's monsters.
  • Elemental Hair Colors: Red's flaming red hair and eyes match his preferred element of fire, which mainly manifests in making stuff explode.
  • Elemental Personalities: Red is the Red Ranger of the Kizuna Five. As such, he possesses the typical Hot-Blooded personality expected of one as well as the fire-based powers. But his passion is also associated with all-consuming obsession. This is exemplified by his Superpowered Evil Side, Kizuna Black, which draws on his despair and desperation to save the people he loves to produce frightening powers. But this same function can drive him berserk and turn him against the people he's trying to save, making him a "jet-black inferno that burns everything to cinders".
  • Even the Loving Hero Has Hated Ones: Professor Betrayis is this for Red, due to him being the The Quisling Mad Scientist responsible for not only creating many of the weapons and monsters (including turning Red's best friend into one) that drove the Kizuna Five into a corner more than once. He even admits that of all the Relationship Enders' executives, Betrayis is the only one Red never formed a bond with because he made many people suffer purely For Science! and for his own gain. When he and his friends are tasked to set out to find the one known as "The Mad Scientist", Red refused to believe that The Mad Scientist and Betrayis were one and the same and genuinely hated the idea of forming a bond with him.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Togo prefers to have others simply call him by his Ranger name, Red. He's actually a little disappointed that Lowji still addresses him by his full name. This is because he felt unworthy as the "man" Togo due to his many personal tragedies, particularly his failure to prevent Silver's fate. By presenting himself as "Red", he wanted to present himself as an Ideal Hero while also trying to prevent further heartbreak by not acting on the feelings that "Togo" has for Yihdra.
  • Everyone Can See It: Basically the entire Kizuna Five knew about his crush on Tenri Nikaido, the then-newly christened Kizuna Silver and gleefully teased him about it. Teltina and Lowji can also see the romantic tension budding between Red and Yihdra and act as a Shipper on Deck for them on numerous occasions.
  • Experienced Protagonist: Zigzagged. Red is a Sentai hero who defeated the Big Bad before being transported to Yihdra's world. Because of this, he's already a One-Man Army with all of his Mid-Season Upgrades, but he's completely lost in the world he finds himself in and needs Yihdra to guide him through everything.
  • Female Gaze: His butt features prominently at the end of Chapter 22, and Yihdra reveals she's very appreciative of how his costume emphasizes that particular part of his body.
  • Fiery Redhead: Red has a head of spiky red hair and is extremely Hot-Blooded about everything.
  • Fire Is Masculine: Red is a Stock Shōnen Hero brimming with Hot-Blooded passion. He's tall, muscular, and is able to make nearly anything explode by punching or kicking it.
  • Fish out of Water: Red is a Henshin Hero currently residing in a fantasy medieval Magitek world.
  • Foil:
    • Red is this to Yihdra. They're both kind and powerful people who want to make the world a better place. But while Yihdra is a genius magician who is snobby, manipulative, and conniving, Red is a Stock Shōnen Hero who's Book Dumb, obsessed with bonds, and tends to brute force his way through most problems. Red's Mid-Season Upgrade in Kizuna Red: Burning Blood gives him a bow to shoot energy projectiles and even launch himself as an arrow at a target, while Yihdra's Kizuna Magus transformation gives her the Super-Strength to pummel her foes in close combat in addition to her magic.
    • Red is also this to Lowji. Both of them are extremely passionate and powerful warriors who use fire. But while Red is cheerful and openly friendly to everyone, Lowji is obsessed with Teltina and a Crazy Jealous Guy who is openly spiteful toward anyone who would interrupt his alone time with her. Red's abilities run on The Power of Friendship and positive things like unity, trust, and love, while Lowji's sword's powers are themed after the Seven Deadly Sins. They both have deeply troubled pasts that define who they are in the present. While Lowji is obsessed with protecting Teltina, whom he's in love with, from harm, Red is obsessed with protecting everyone from harm because he's lost people dear to him, including his First Love.
  • Friend to All Children:
    • Red is immensely popular with kids in his world, who gather around him and want to play with him while gushing about how cool he is. To his dismay, Yihdra can hardly believe kids would like someone wearing such a weird uniform.
    • He gets a lesson in what Yihdra means later on, when the party comes across a group of orphans. The kids quickly latch onto the others, all of whom are familar archetypes to them (the wizard, the princess, the hero), but they have no idea what to make of Red. When he attempts to demonstrate his Sentai credentials, some of the kids back away in fear while the others wonder why his costume uses so much red. When they move on to noting how his costume emphasizes his butt and decide to call him "Masked Big Booty" because they can't remember his name, he takes to sitting outside alone.
  • Genre Refugee: He's a member of a Sentai team who suddenly finds himself in a Standard Japanese Fantasy Setting. Red's non-magical abilities baffle and bewilder Yihdra, and Red still acts like he's on a Toku show, completely lacking any kind of subtlety and approaching everything with his Hot-Blooded candor. This has its ups and downs, as while his perpetual optimism and Chronic Hero Syndrome brings out the best in others, his lack of decorum and his overly destructive powers can create as many problems as he solves if Yihdra doesn't rein him in.
  • Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: Red is a capable hand-to-hand fighter who is also an expert at using his Cooperation-Calibur, while Yihdra prefers to attack from a distance with magic. Also downplayed, as Red can summon numerous energy guns at will.
  • Happily Adopted:
    • Downplayed. Red is revealed to have lost his parents at an early age and was eventually taken in by another family. While he grimaces at how his adoptive sister Sumiko used to tease him for his toy-collecting hobby, he still thinks about her fondly despite her treating him "coldly" for said hobby.
    • Although Red initially got along well with his adoptive brother Kiyohiro and sees him as his Best Friend, their father would spend a lot more time with Red due to Red's gift for sports. This gradually turned Kiyohiro into a Green-Eyed Monster jealous of the attention Red got despite Kiyohiro's efforts to stand out academically and musically. The Relationship Enders exploited this envy to turn Kiyohiro into Bondkiller in an effort to kill Red, but he managed to repair his relationship with Kiyohiro and make it stronger than ever after the Kizuna Five helped him undo Kiyohiro's transformation.
  • Has a Type: Yihdra and Kizuna Silver, his two official love interests, are both brash women with big breasts.
  • Hates Being Alone: In a flashback, Kizuna Silver remarks that a "warrior of bonds" like Red must hate being alone, hence why he's so gung-ho about making friends and forging bonds with everyone he meets. Later chapters reveal that Red's obsession with bonds goes much further than that. Red developed severe abandonment issues after being orphaned in a car accident at a young age and left to fend for himself by his surviving family. This trauma is only compounded when he fails to Screw Destiny and Silver dies protecting him just as she predicted. His fixation on making friends is a coping mechanism to patch the gaping hole in his heart caused by his loss and fear of being alone.
  • Henshin Hero: Of the Super Sentai variety. Red is a Sentai hero through and through, so naturally he transforms into Kizuna Red when it's time to fight. But when Lowji steals his Bond Plate before the fight with the second Mana Seed -empowered monster, Red is at the monster's mercy without his full power.
  • Heroic Build: The page where Red is falling after defeating the Break-Up King as his life flashes before his eyes shows that he's muscular beneath his clothes. He's also rather tall for a Japanese high schooler, standing at 185 cm, or about 6 feet tall. Played for Laughs when it's pointed out that his heroic build gives him a big butt (which is further emphasized by his form-fitting costume), something Yihdra appreciates even as it inspires mockery from local children.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Red seemingly dies in the opening of the story while finishing up the Break-Up King, only to land in Yihdra's world instead. He attempts this again after running out of Bond Energy to keep fighting, telling Yihdra to run while he holds the monster off. She scolds him for this, pointing out what a stupid idea that is considering she has healing magic.
  • Heroic Second Wind: Red is knocked out of the fight while battling a monster created from a Mana Seed due to using up too much energy from his failed uses of the Kizuna Kaiser and Victory Kizuna Buster. Thanks to the bickering adventurers putting aside their differences and Yihdra's healing magic, Red is recharged enough to transform again and finish the fight with a successful Victory Kizuna Buster shot.
  • Heroic Spirit: According to Red, he can keep fighting as long as it takes to defend his friends through the power of his bonds, continuing to fight even after expending a lot of energy fending off Louluguat.
Red: If it's to protect my friends, I can fight beyond my limits! That is the power of bonds!
  • Heroism Burns Bright: Togo has fire powers, is the eponymous Red Ranger of the series and member of a Sentai team.
  • Hero of Another Story: Before he enters the new world and meets Yihdra, he was a Sentai hero with his own set of allies, villains, family drama, and adventures.
  • Hot-Blooded: YES. Red approaches almost everything in life with zeal and enthusiasm. Almost nothing is able to get him down and he's never not shouting at the top of his lungs as he rushes off to do some other improbable thing. His eyes even light up with fire when he's especially excited. This also becomes the basis for his new form, Kizuna Red: Burning Blood, after he and Yihdra confess their feelings for one another, with his passion and affection for her becoming the source of his new love-themed powers.
  • Hypocrite: Teltina's Armor-Piercing Question for Red points out that he left to face the Break-Up King alone despite his pride as a "warrior of bonds" and belief that bonds can overcome anything. Rather than reprimand him for it, she feels the same way, as she'd gladly sacrifice herself if it meant her friends and loved ones would be kept safe.
  • Hypocritical Humor:
    • He proudly declares that people can challenge anything, even their own hatred and insecurities, if they put their mind to it. But when Yihdra tries to get him to challenge his own hatred of needles for the sake of her research, he immediately high-tails it out of there.
    • He calls Teltina and Lowji strange for their unique relationship (a Bodyguard Crush suffering from All Love Is Unrequited). This earns him a dead-eyed stare of disbelief from Yihdra, given that he's way weirder than they could ever be.
  • Ideal Hero: Red is effortlessly kind and considerate of others, mistaking Yihdra's golem for some kind of kidnapper and "rescuing" the two adventurers it was carrying out the door. Despite nearly dying and being Trapped in Another World, he places finding a way home second to figuring out why he was sent here and making the world a better place. Chapter 14 reveals that Red is a subversion, as while his altruism and kindness is genuine, it's also a desperate attempt to grapple with his deep-seated trauma and desire to belong after he was orphaned in a car accident and left utterly alone with no one to care for him.
  • Idiot Hair: Red has a cowlick going backwards in his Shōnen Hair and he's not exactly a genius despite his badass credentials as a Toku hero.
  • Idiot Hero: He is severely lacking in common sense. He constantly makes Hot-Blooded speeches even when it is not appropriate and makes boneheaded decisions like transforming indoors or when people are next to him (which damages them from the explosion his transformation causes) and trying to summon his mecha in a tunnel too narrow for it.
  • I Gave My Word: According to him, a man never goes back on his word. He intends to make good on every promise he makes, whether it's making a Declaration of Protection or insisting that he's more than capable enough to accompany Teltina on her quest to destroy the Mana Seeds.
  • I Let Gwen Stacy Die: After Lowji is incapacitated Taking the Bullet for Red, Abudabi's Evil Gloating about how everyone is going to die for the sake of the Demon Queen's revival triggers a horrible memory for Red when he failed to save someone. The sheer anguish he experiences is enough to send Red into an Unstoppable Rage while swearing to never let anyone die in front of him again. Chapter 14 reveals that Kizuna Silver died saving his life, having foreseen her death well in advance. This, combined with his trauma from losing his parents at an early age, is the reason he's so obsessed with forming bonds with others and terrified of losing said bonds, serving as bandaids for the gaping hole in his heart left by their deaths.
  • Immortal Breaker: Red's Big Bond Soul is capable of binding immortals like the Break-Up King and Demon Queen to the cycle of reincarnation, wiping away their memories and powers while sending them to the next world.
  • Inconsistent Coloring: Red's hair color varies between the artist's official illustrations. While most illustrations give him red hair, at least one illustration gives him black hair. The anime shows that officially it's supposed to be red.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Red wears his heart on his sleeve and never has any reservations about speaking his mind. Because of this, he tends to say things without thinking proudly announcing that he defeated the Mana Seed monster with his team's Victory Kizuna Buster despite how confusing that is. His forwardness also clashes with the strict social hierarchies of the fantasy world, and Lowji wants to kill Red for his constant lack of decorum towards Teltina (even though she's fine with it).
  • Knight Errant: Red went to both ends of the world while trying to find a way home before realizing that this fantasy world has many of the same struggles as his own world. Because of this, he started travelling from place to place, helping everyone he could while raising his adventurer rank to figure out why he was sent here.
  • Limited Wardrobe: Red arrived in Yihdra's world with only the clothes on his back and his transformation bracelet. He doesn't have the funds to get any new clothes, so he's always seen wearing what he had before coming to Yihdra's world. But the early pages showing his memories has him wear the same clothes in nearly every scene aside from one where he's wearing his school uniform over it.
  • Lovable Jock: Side materials reveal that Red was a born athlete even before he became a ranger. His Chronic Hero Syndrome would lead him to volunteer to help any club who asked him, participating in competitions on behalf of his school despite not officially being on the team. He excelled at virtually every sport he tried, including soccer, judo, and basketball, and is a Stock Shōnen Hero who wants to make tons of friends.
  • Love at First Sight: He was head over heels for Tenri Nikaidou, Kizuna Silver, at first sight. He's left in Stunned Silence when he meets her face to face, and he has to deny his attraction to the other members of the Kizuna Five with a clear blush on his face.
  • Love Freak:
    • Well, bond freak. Red is a Henshin Hero who runs on The Power of Friendship, so he believes that any problem can be solved with the power of the bonds between people. He inserts "bond" and "friendship" in his sentences whenever possible, and his response to any crisis to tell others to believe in the power of his bonds with them to help him charge up enough Bond Energy to spectacularly win the fight. Lampshaded by Yihdra, who is surprised that he doesn't talk about bonds after she offers to help him find a way home.
    • When the party arrives in Akalina, they're stunned to find that it's a ghost town where the streets are completely empty and no one is talking to each other despite its reputation as a bustling city. Red is so stunned by this that he makes it his mission to bond with every single person living there until Yihdra reminds him that they're looking for information on the Mana Seeds.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: He comes from a world where magic doesn't exist, so magic-powered items like his guild tag baffle him since he doesn't have any magic to make it work.
  • Magnetic Hero:
    • Red's optimism and kindness is infectious, and the aloof Yihdra soon finds herself feeling attached to him for how thoroughly supportive he is of her dreams. He also quickly finds common ground with Teltina, who is able to relax and laugh around him in a way she never could with Lowji. He gets along with most people so easily that his friends are alarmed to learn that there are people even he is reluctant to try and get along with.
    • Back in his world, Red campaigned for his adoptive brother Kiyohiro's bid to become student council president and was a major part of Kiyohiro's victory. Several students say that they only voted for Kiyohiro because Red told them to and that they likely would have voted for Red had he run for the position instead. Learning this fed into Kiyohiro's envy toward Red due to feeling overshadowed by him despite Red admiring Kiyohiro's own talents.
  • Manly Tears: Red is moved to tears when Yihdra promises to help him return to his world as part of achieving her dream of making the world a better place through magic. He even declares it must have been destiny that brought them together, embarrassing her with what sounds like a Love Confession.
  • Meaningful Name: Red's parents named him "Togo" using the characters for "light" and "enlightenment" in hopes that he'd make lots of friends by understanding their hearts and that he'd live a long, happy life. Red acts as the nearly fearless member of the Kizuna Five, helping to save and inspire people every day with his Hot-Blooded charisma. He hopes to make a trillion friends one day and is fixated on bonding with as many people as possible. This fixation is revealed to be an obsession born from his abandonment issues after he was orphaned at an early age.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: Red is tall and muscular thanks to his talent for sports and ranger training. He's much stronger than most adventurers in Yihdra's world even without transforming and a Lightning Bruiser as Kizuna Red. His athleticism and altruism are what got him scouted to become Kizuna Red in the first place.
  • My Life Flashed Before My Eyes:
    • All of Red's memories of his friends flash before his eyes after defeating the Break-Up King. The reel is cut short when he hits his head and sits up in Yihdra's world.
    • He has another one when he's knocked into a river by Louluguat's monsters after Lowji stole his Bond Plate. In this flashback, he sees Kizuna Silver discussing his drive to forge bonds with others before Yihdra manages to resuscitate him.
  • Nice Guy: Like most Red Sentai, Red's a big-hearted and outgoing person who always has good things to say about others.
  • No Badass to His Valet: Red is officially hired by Yihdra to help her, and despite being vastly more powerful than her, his quirks and Hot-Blooded personality get her to pull her hair out and insult him when he's driving her nuts. She can also boss him around when needed, particularly when conversations require a more delicate touch. For the most part, Red takes this in stride, only showing mild confusion when she calls his uniform weird.
  • NO INDOOR VOICE: Red gets excited easily, so much of his dialogue is in starburst speech bubbles to emphasize how he's shouting all the time. Flashbacks show that his friends are surprised when he isn't making a lot of noise.
  • Oblivious to Love: Red's passionate speeches and shouting about how it must be destiny that he met Yihdra could easily be interpreted as flirting or a Love Confession, giving her a Luminescent Blush. Red seems to be oblivious to this though, as he merely asks if she's okay after seeing her redden like this. Subverted when flashbacks reveal that he developed a crush on Kizuna Silver at first sight. The recording Silver left for him in the Sun Forest also reveals his Covert Pervert tendencies. Further subverted in Chapter 30, where it's revealed that he's been in love with Yihdra for a while, but the trauma of losing Silver led him to believe that he's unworthy of love, causing him to fool himself into believing that he only cared for her as a friend. The first thing he does upon transforming into Kizuna Red: Burning Blood is hugging Yihdra and passionately declaring his love for her.
  • Odd-One-Out Protagonist: Kizuna Red is the titular protagonist and the only Toku Stock Shōnen Hero of the main party after being sent from his world to Yihdra's world. This means his use of a literal Power of Friendship to fuel his explosive punches is literally otherworldly to the stock fantasy setting he finds himself in. He frequently runs into Culture Clash over his Hot-Blooded personality and costumed appearance.
  • Oh, Crap!: This is his reaction when his Bond Plate goes missing, leaving him unable to transform and at the mercy of Louluguat's monsters.
  • One Head Taller: Yihdra only comes up to Red's chest, and the two of them are the focus of the story.
  • One-Man Army: Due to his adventures as Kizuna Red, Red is comfortable with taking on entire armies of enemies, as it's natural for Rangers to be surrounded. Even the high-level monsters at the Ruins of Wakenark are nothing more than small-fry to him.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • While Red knows when to get serious and can't tolerate injustice, he's normally able to maintain a stiff upper lip even in the worst of times. So it's startling when his rage boils over after Abudabi gloats about how everyone will die at his hands. When Red talks to Lowji over the latter Taking the Bullet for him, Red starts off cheerful and thanks Lowji for saving him. But Red's next speech bubble is color-inverted from the norm, black with white text, while he demands Lowji to never do it again. The discrepancy is so jarring that Lowji can hardly recognize it as Red's voice. The anime achieves the same effect by having Red's voice drop so low that it's almost unrecognizable from his normal speaking voice.
    • When he's forced to use his Dangerous Forbidden Technique and become Kizuna Black after he's critically injured by Abudabi and Vidan, he begs his friends to stop him even if it means killing him. His speech bubble is scratched and scraggly to emphasize Red's deadly seriousness.
    • Red's cheery, outgoing personality goes right out the window when the topic of his Arch-Enemy, Professor Betrayis, comes up in conversation. While Red was able to find at least some common ground with the other Relationship Enders, Betrayis' sociopathy, pettiness, and viciousness consistently get under Red's skin. His friends are alarmed to learn that there are people that even Red won't try to get along with, and he spends as much time as he can trying to deny the possibility that he'll have to work with Betrayis despite the evidence to the contrary.
    • When trying to chase Vidara and Abudabi from escaping to the Royal Demons' lair, Red manages to partially get through the portal where he sees Domad for the first time. The mere sight of Domad completely robbed Red of his typical fearlessness and left him absolutely terrified from the incident. He even says that Domad is the first monster since coming to Yihdra's world that had him spooked — even more than the Break-Up King himself.
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: Despite being a Magnetic Hero, Red has a habit of annoying others with his choice of words. Yihdra has to tell him to shut up more than once because his Hot-Blooded candor and otherworldly sensibilities make him prone to confusing people in a conversation. Even before being sent to another world, he pissed off Kizuna Yellow by calling her as prickly as the cactuses she likes to take care of.
  • Otaku: Back in his world, Red had a habit of collecting toys that came with certain brands of snacks, going so far as to attend conventions involving them. His adoptive sister needled him over his childish and nerdy hobby but he continued to collect them right up to the point that he was sent to another world. Red uses his love of toys to bond with Connor and convince him to release his Privilege Magic willingly.
  • Perpetual Poverty: Because of his Destructive Savior tendencies, Red is always broke since he scorches all the valuable drop items, turning them into useless lumps of charcoal that he can't exchange for money.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Teltina points out that with Red's power, he's even more dangerous than the Mana Seeds that she and Lowji are trying to stop. His Humongous Mecha in particular can whip up hurricane force winds and leave huge gouges in the ground. Its Maximum Kizuna Blaster can wipe out the entire city of Akalina with a single shot and the Kaiser's stomping around is enough to flatten city blocks from the shockwaves.
  • The Pollyanna:
    • Red is relentlessly positive. Even while beaten and dying from defeating the Break-Up King, he's able to find happiness in knowing that his friends and world are safe. Then he gets dropped into another world with no way home and sees that evils like slave labor are still around. Rather than angsting about it, he takes his predicament in stride and becomes a Knight Errant searching for the reason why he was chosen to arrive in this world.
    • Despite his positivity, there are hints toward Red being secretly a subversion. He instantly sympathizes with Grossa when asked if he has a place dear to him while getting flashbacks of his friends and declares that he'll help her take back the city no matter what. He also wonders aloud about what his friends are doing, and is stunned when Teltina points out the hypocrisy in a "warrior of bonds" facing the Break-Up King alone. After Lowji shields Red from an otherwise lethal attack, he quietly begs Lowji to never take an attack for him again. The story eventually reveals Red to be a Stepford Smiler with well-hidden abandonment issues and a great deal of angst over the thought of never seeing his friends or his home again.
  • Portmanteau: Red's "Bond"-themed names for his equipment are a portmanteau of two words meaning "creation" and an alternate reading for "kizuna" or "bonds". Thus it literally means "bond creation".
  • The Power of Friendship: Red was a member of the Kizuna Five, who literally derive their power from bonds and friendship. Red's weapons include the Cooperation-Calibur, Marriage Beam Gun, and the Victory Kizuna Buster, all of which run on the bonds between himself and others. In fact, he can run out of power if people are infighting near him after he's already used up a lot of his energy, and he can't use his strongest weapons and attacks without someone he feels he's forged a strong bond with (i.e. shared goals, worked and fought together with). On the same note, his power is recharged when people overcome their differences and work together.
  • Red Hot Masculinity: Red is a male hero who is passionate about everyone and everything, wields the power of fire and is overall a Hot-Blooded Stock Shōnen Hero. He also has a Heroic Build, flaming red hair and eyes, and wears red in both his civilian guise and as Kizuna Red. Even his Trademark Favorite Food, curry, evokes heat as a steaming hot pile of heavily spiced food.
  • Red Is Heroic: Red was the Red Ranger on his team, and has red hair, red eyes, and a red costume. He's also a straightforward Stock Shōnen Hero out of place in a fantasy setting.
  • Rookie Red Ranger: Togo is the Kizuna Red Ranger and the fifth member to join the Kizuna Five; Pink, who's two years younger than him, was already a member before he joined.
  • Secretly Selfish: A tragic variation of this trope. While Red's obsession with bonds and willingness to risk life and limb to protect his friends is heroic in practice, Chapter 14 reveals that the reason behind this the immense trauma caused by the deaths of his parents and his first love and that he uses the bonds he forges as means to fill the void in his heart. He's so desperate to preserve these bonds and so scared of seeing anymore of his loved ones dying that he'd rather sacrifice his own life to protect them than have to endure anymore loss.
  • Seen It All: Zigzagged. Red has gone through an entire series' worth of adventures with the rest of the Kizuna Five. So the idea of fighting an entire army on his lonesome or witnessing a Make My Monster Grow sequence is just business as usual for him. But even after six months in Yihdra's world, there's still much he doesn't know about it and he's surprised and impressed by everything new he encounters. This is particularly noticeable in the Demi-Human Federation arc, which starts with Red gawping at the Federation's coast guard pointing rocket launchers at him. He's completely flabbergasted when Professor Betrayis reveals the Kizuna Red Verse and sics it on the heroes.
Red: [after Louluguat turns into a giant mass threatening to crush the city] Nothing to worry about, guys! Having your enemies grow giant-sized is already a part of my routine!
Yihdra: That says more about you than how normal it is.
  • Sentai: Red was the Red Ranger in his home world, defending the innocent from the wrath of the Relationship Enders. He continues to carry his superhero sensibilities into the fantasy world, confusing the locals who have no frame of reference for his personality or abilities.
  • Shōnen Hair: Red's spiky, flaming red hair matches his Hot-Blooded personality and explosive fire powers to a T. He even has a lock of Idiot Hair to emphasize his Book Dumb tendencies.
  • Showy Invincible Hero: Subverted. All of Red's attacks are obnoxiously loud and flashy and he's a One-Man Army able to wade into the toughest dungeons with ease. But he soon meets his match in the more dangerous monsters created from the Mana Seeds as well as the World's Strongest Man, Lowji Mist. As the threat level increases, it becomes clear that Red is not as invincible as he first appears and takes his lumps with everyone else.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Abudabi attempts to use a Breaking Speech to call Red a Hypocrite for trying to stop the demons from reviving the Demon Queen and reforging their bonds. But Red rebukes him, saying that any bond formed with evil intention to destroy the bonds of others deserves to be cut apart.
  • Spotlight-Stealing Squad: Played for Drama and Played for Laughs in his backstory. Red's adoptive brother Kiyohiro became a Green-Eyed Monster because he felt that their family preferred Red to him, resulting in Kiyohiro lashing out as Bondkiller. This continued even after they reconciled with Kiyohiro becoming Bondkiller again any time their family was spending more time with Red than him. It took thirteen battles with Red for Kiyohiro to finally go back to normal for good.
  • Stepford Smiler: Chapter 14 reveals that Red's Love Freak tendencies and obsession with bonding is his way of coping with his deeply-ingrained abandonment issues and trauma from being orphaned at a young age. He tries to fulfill his parents' wishes for him and make friends with as many people as possible as a means of grappling with his loss. But the thought of losing anyone else causes these bonds he uses as band-aids for the gaping hole in his heart to come loose, revealing just how terrified he is of being alone again. His unwillingness to let others help him shoulder his burdens is what causes him to constantly lose control of Kizuna Black. It's not until Yihdra confesses her love to him and offers to help fill that hole in his heart with affection that he starts to truly recover, transforming the Kizuna Black Bond Plate into his new Burning Blood form.
  • Stock Shōnen Hero: Red plays this hilariously straight, only he is of the Super Sentai flavoring. He's passionate about anything and everything, is super strong and fast, and is a highly emotional guy with Chronic Hero Syndrome. He approaches everything with wide-eyed joy and wonder and is obsessed with The Power of Friendship, to the point that he will run out of power if people are holding grudges against one another near him! This is lampshaded constantly in-story, with his own teammate Kizuna Pink saying he talks like a cartoon character.
  • Strong and Skilled: As destructive and seemingly uncontrolled as Red's powers are, he's still a hero who's managed to defeat one ultimate evil in his world and it shows. He's skilled at wielding all the powers and weapons that typically come with being a Henshin Hero, giant robot included.
  • Supporting Protagonist:
    • Although he gets top billing and is the main character, he travels with Yihdra to help her with her goals before his own because of his belief that he ended up in her world for a reason. This is gradually subverted as Red's past comes to the forefront until he takes center stage as The Chosen One capable of defeating the Demon Queen and returning her to the cycle of reincarnation.
    • He is also this with the Kizuna Five. Even though he's the Red Ranger, who is traditionally seen as The Leader of the team in Super Sentai and Power Rangers, he was actually the last member to join. Turns out Nagare Banjōji (Kizuna Blue) is the team's actual leader since he was the first member and the one bankrolling their entire operation. Despite that, Red still takes point in the field during their conflicts with the Relationship Enders and leads the team's rollcalls.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: He insists that he's absolutely the same as always and in no way entranced by the beauty of Tenri Nikaido, the then newly named Kizuna Silver, after being shocked into Stunned Silence at first sight.
  • Taught by Experience: Red is an Experienced Protagonist who has experienced all kinds of tropey encounters firsthand. He assumes correctly that Yihdra's golem is a test, though he wasn't aware that his test hadn't actually started yet. He also laughs when Lowji tells him that he has no intention of becoming friends with Red, who hasn't met a single person who said that to him who didn't become a good friend later on.
  • Tears of Blood: In a flashback to when he and the Kizuna Five are fighting the Break-Up King, Red's injuries simulate this trope as he cries actual tears over Kizuna Silver dying in his arms from taking a lethal blow meant for him.
  • Terrible Artist: Red once tried to help his school's manga club when it was short-staffed, but soon realizes that he doesn't know the first thing about how to draw, with his efforts making things harder rather than easier. He was eventually thrown out and relegated to buying supplies for the club.
  • There's No Place Like Home: For all of Red's talk about wanting to help Yihdra right the wrongs of her world, it gradually becomes clear that he desperately misses his friends back home and wants to be able to see them again. His homesickness is first alluded to by how quickly he empathizes with Grossa's wish for Akalina to go back to the way it was. Bad End reveals that Red had all but given up on ever seeing his friends again before meeting Yihdra, who kept his hope of returning home alive by offering to develop an interdimensional transport spell when no one else would. Just as Red became an inspiration to Yihdra, she became his hero and Living Emotional Crutch. After they confess their feelings for one another, Red says that he wouldn't mind living out the rest of his days in her world if it means being with her, showing just how much she means to him.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: The anime depicts him as having a particular fondness for Japanese curry. Yihdra gets a video of Red devouring an enormous plate of curry in seconds when she tries to view his stats on his adventurer tag. The anime's ending music video also depicts a chibi Red getting ready to dig into another huge plate of katsu curry.
  • Trapped in Another World: Red finds himself in a fantasy world after he expected to die defeating the Break-Up King. Undaunted, he uses his new lease on life to protect the innocent as an adventurer while also trying to find a way home.
  • Trauma Button: Seeing others Taking the Bullet for him is an enormous sore spot for Red, as one of his closest friends, Kizuna Silver, died as she predicted she would saving his life even though they swore to Screw Destiny in the end. Seeing his loved ones get hurt and nearly killed in general is another trigger for Red, as he was orphaned at an early age and told that life would be easier had he died with his parents.
  • Triple Shifter: In addition to trying to keep up with school, Red spent his afternoons and evenings battling the Relationship Enders to protect humanity and the universe. This gradually wore him out and put a strain on his relationships due to his inability to convincingly explain his various absences. Him collapsing in the middle of Kiyohiro's competition celebration and accidentally stealing all of their family's attention was the last straw for Kiyohiro, who succumbed to his envy and became Bondkiller at the Relationship Enders' urging.
  • True Companions: Based on how Red reminisces on his past, it's safe to say that he is incredibly close to all of his teammates, who all mourn his assumed death after he defeats the Break-Up King.
  • Unknown Rival: Red is this to Lowji, who sees him as a rival for Teltina's hand in love and marriage. Despite Red being completely Oblivious to Love and only wanting to be friends with Teltina, his increasing closeness to her and ability to relate to her struggles angers Lowji.
  • Unstoppable Rage: After Lowji is injured Taking the Bullet for Red, Abudabi gloats that it was useless, as everyone would die by his hands sooner or later. This triggers a painful memory of Red's where he failed to save someone, leaving him trembling with rage as his costume darkens and cracks while giving him a power boost strong enough to easily punch Abudabi straight through a building.
  • Verbal Tic: Red has a habit of ending his sentences with "だぜ" or "da-ze", which literally means "you know" but is typically used in fiction to give dialogue a casual, boyish quality, emphasizing Red's Stock Shōnen Hero personality. Tsukasa, his junior and Kizuna Pink, lampshades this, claiming he talks like a cartoon character.
  • Victory Pose: He jumps in the air with one fist raised above his head in triumph after passing Yihdra's test. He, Yihdra, and the two other unnamed adventurers with them also strike a "Super Sentai" Stance after defeating the monster produced by the Mana Seed with the Victory Kizuna Buster.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Tomoya Ito gives Red a peppy, fairly high-pitched voice to go along with his Stock Shōnen Hero personality in the anime adaptation. But in certain serious moments, Red's voice can drop shockingly low, to the point that it's nearly unrecognizable compared to his normal voice in-universe and out. Even in the manga, the colors on his speech bubble are inverted while the text becomes scraggly to convey just how differently Red is speaking in these moments.
  • The Watson: As an outsider to Yihdra's world, Red has to have a lot explained to him, whether it's guild cards, magic, or simply who important people are given that his travelling companions are all far more informed than he is. Flashbacks show that this was also the case back in his world, as he was the last of the Kizuna Five to be recruited and he had to be brought up to speed on details the others knew already.
  • What's Up, King Dude?: Due to his typical Hot-Blooded niceness and Fish out of Water status, Red quickly treats Teltina like an old friend without any of the stuffy decorum or manners. This enrages Lowji for not showing Teltina proper respect.
  • The Worf Effect: Red is a powerful warrior who treats even high-leveled monsters like small-fry. Because of this, he's often used as a measuring stick for an enemy's power level, and he struggles against the first Mana Seed monster and Lowji to demonstrate how dangerous they are. He's also at the complete mercy of the monster controlling Akalina, which is able to constantly attack Red's blindspots to prevent him from fighting back.
  • Worf Had the Flu: His power is established early on, and Red struggling is a sign that things have gotten more serious, though it isn't always his fault. For instance, he takes up Yihdra's suggestion to use the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser inside a cave before realizing too late that the cave is too cramped for it to move, draining valuable energy that leaves him vulnerable after the Victory Kizuna Buster fails. But once his party overcomes its differences, the Victory Kizuna Buster is enough to instantly defeat the monster.
  • Wrong Context Magic: Red's powers aren't magic and don't adhere to any known magical theories in Yihdra's world. Because of him being a Toku Genre Refugee, the seemingly arbitrary Power of Friendship Red's gear runs on is baffling to her, and almost anyone who sees him in action is either dumbstruck or wowed by his abilities. This, on top of being an otherworlder, makes him a prime research subject despite his tendency to drive her nuts. Subverted when Mana Metal reacts to Red's Emergency Kizuna Warp, meaning that there is a connection between magic and Bond Energy. Yihdra's research proves that Mana Metal is formed when magic interacts with Bond Energy, a discovery she uses to create a Bond Gear and Bond Plate for herself.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: Near the ending of the Beast Folk arc, Yihdra manages to discover a way to send him back home, through the power of the Demon Queen. However, at the same time, the Demon Queen has to be stopped, or she would destroy the world. When Yihdra tells him that if they won, he may never be able to go back home, and asks if he is alright with it, he tells her that while he is sad about it, he has already made his resolve, and states that maybe settling down in this world wouldn't be so bad.

Tropes as Kizuna Red

  • Abnormal Ammo: His Burning Blood form comes equipped with the Variable Ballista, a wrist-mounted bow that's used to perform the Burning Kizuna Bolt, a technique that allows him to launch himself at blinding speed.
  • Adaptational Badass: In the original manga, Red's Kizuna Black transformation is disrupted by Lowji allowing Red to deal a vicious shoulder injury so Lowji could rip out his Bond Plate. In the anime, this is instead an extended sequence where Yihdra and Raniya bind and occupy Kizuna Black so Lowji can get close enough to the deed while Teltina uses Vrykolakas to evacuate everyone else out of the crossfire.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: The Maximum Kizuna Kaiser is perfect for taking on a huge monster after a Make My Monster Grow sequence... not so great against anything else. It's too big to use anywhere except a wide open field and its size makes it cumbersome to use against a small opponent of equal strength. On top of that, it can't run at full power because Red doesn't have the rest of the Kizuna Five with him to keep it charged, limiting the amount of time he can use it and leaving him exhausted powering it all by himself. Even after he gets other people in the cockpit with him, he's the only one in his party who knows how to pilot a robot meant for five people, leaving him struggling to control all of its functions on his own.
  • BFG: The Victory Kizuna Buster is a massive cannon as large as Red is. It runs on the power of the bonds of the wielders and can only be used at full power when its users put aside their differences and work toward a single goal.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: Red always has to slot his Bond Plate into his his Bond Brace and pose while shouting "Henshin! Bond Armor-CHANGE!" to transform into Kizuna Red. The actual activation phrase is followed by, "Burning brightly! The Warrior of Feverish Friendship! Kizuna Red!"
  • Calling Your Attacks:
    • As one would expect from a Red Ranger, Red always calls his best attacks, all of them relationship-themed in some way, like his Burning Kizuna Punch and his Burning Kizuna Kick. Some of them are a little less conventionally named...
Red: Marriage Beam Gun! Lovers' Snipe! Proposal Pot-Shot! Engagement Gift Burst!
    • Red winds up in a 1-on-1 duel with Azir after the latter defeated Raniya and stole her Transformation Trinket. The resulting battle is filled with the cacophany of both fighters calling their attacks. Lampshaded by Yihdra, who has to cover her ears because of how loud the two fighters are.
Yihdra: These otherworld battles are... incredibly obnoxious.
  • Combat Tentacles: His primary weapon as Kizuna Black. By manipulating the Armor Bandages comprising his suit, he is able to grab opponents, shield himself from attacks, and form various offensive constructs.
  • Combined Energy Attack: All of Red's most powerful weapons, such as the Victory Kizuna Buster and the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser, run on The Power of Friendship between him and his allies. He can't even pull out the Kizuna Beasts if he doesn't have a bond with at least one person nearby, even if he's only known them for a day or less. If he runs out of Bond Energy, he can be recharged by people overcoming their differences and lending their power to him and his weapons.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: Red's Superpowered Evil Side, Kizuna Black. A second Bond Plate meant only as a last resort, Kizuna Black is a Berserker form that makes Red's fighting style far more brutal than normal and gives him a massive boost in strength that can No-Sell any attack that Demons like Abudabi and Vidan could throw at him. It also gives him access to bandage-like tendril appendages in which he uses to either strike or restrain his opponents to great effect. However, using this form is dangerous for him as he can easily lose control and go berserk after a certain amount of time, making him susceptible to attacking his allies unwittingly. This is due to it harnessing all of Red's negative emotions, such as his fears, hatred, despair, loneliness, and turning it into power well beyond his body's limit. The dangers of using this form are so great, Red is unsure whether he could come back after using it and outright begs his friends to stop him even if it kills him should he go berserk. Following Yihdra's Declaration Of Love for him, Red no longer has access to Kizuna Black, which turns into a new form instead: Kizuna Red: Burning Blood.
  • Defeat Equals Explosion: When he beats monsters, they explode for no perceivable reason.
  • Destructive Teleportation: The Emergency Kizuna Warp function of Red's Transformation Trinket works by using Bond Energy to break the user's body down into atoms and instantly reform them next to a person he has a strong bond with. Yihdra lampshades how terrifying that sounds after accidentally triggering it through the use of mana metal. Yihdra then fashions a bracelet that allows her to summon Red to her side at any time.
  • Diegetic Soundtrack Usage: The anime has his transformation theme tune play louder when the camera is closer to him, and fainter when it cuts to a different character, implying that the music is coming from his gear in addition to its voice lines.
  • Discard and Draw: In unlocking a new form, Kizuna Red: Burning Blood, Red loses access to the Kizuna Black transformation and its sheer versatility with its bandaged-based Morph Weapons. In exchange, Burning Blood possesses outstanding power and strength to let Red bulldoze the competition by using himself as a projectile. This form also has none of the downsides of his previous one and symbolizes him and Yihdra becoming a couple.
  • Diving Kick: His Burning Kizuna Kick is a flying kick whose speed is boosted by his Turbo-Engine.
  • Double Weapon: Red's Cooperation-Calibur is a double-bladed sword whose handle is shaped like two hands clasped together in friendship. He can also split it back into tis component swords for Dual Wielding.
  • Elemental Punch: His punches and kicks are accompanied by trails of fire from his costume to boost their speed and power as well as engulf anything he hits in flames.
  • Embarrassing but Empowering Outfit: Downplayed. Red's Kizuna Red uniform lets him tap into his full power and is typical Sentai fare. He's shocked when Yihdra calls it weird and tacky, as the kids loved it back in his world. Yihdra mutters that they must have been brainwashed to think such a strange outfit is cool. Lowji also calls Red a clown for donning such an eccentric costume. Later on, the kids at the Stella Orphanage make fun of him and point out that his skin-tight spandex emphasizes his athletic bubble butt, leading them to nickname him "Masked Big Butt" to his despair.
  • Explosive Punch: Red's Burning Kizuna Punch causes an explosion wherever he hits. While helpful for killing monsters, the heat and explosive force incinerate the drop items he'd normally get, leaving him in Perpetual Poverty.
  • Gratuitous English: Several of his weapons and attacks are named with a mixture of English and Japanese or just plain English, most notably his Maximum Kizuna Kaiser and its Maximum Kizuna Blaster.
  • Having a Blast: Everything behind Red will explode as part of his Transformation Sequence, and his Burning Kizuna Punch will also make things explode even if nothing inside them is prone to detonating.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: When he's not punching something to make it explode, his most commonly used weapon is the Cooperation-Calibur, a Double Weapon he's skilled enough to use with one hand while holding Yihdra in the other. The Maximum Kizuna Kaiser also possesses a proportionally-sized BFS called the Great Bond Sword.
  • Hour of Power: Red once had a temporary power-up during his summer adventure on the Planet Enkil, where the Shrine Maiden Fuquenne used her people's ancient magical treasure to temporarily shrink down the Kizuna Beasts and combine them with him into a form of Powered Armor version of the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser. This form, christened "Maximum Kizuna Red", lets him wield all the powers of the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser, from its Wave-Motion Gun Chest Blaster to its incredibly strong Kong Knuckle. This allowed him to defeat Finally Taricorn, an evil Enkillian who planned to destroy the universe. But he notes that the form was temporary and a "one-time miracle" he can't use again. Late in the story, Yihdra manages to reverse engineer the process from Red's memories, allowing him to use it again at one time of his choosing for as long as the magic Yihdra imbued into it lasts.
  • Humongous Mecha: Red is able to summon his and his friends' Kizuna Beasts to create Maximum Kizuna Kaiser, an enormous robot capable of incredible feats of strength. Unfortunately, it's so huge that it's only useful in wide-open spaces and against Kaiju-sized enemies. And as chapter 3 has proven, it's definitely not meant for fighting human opponents, as Lowji learned the hard way.
  • In a Single Bound: Red can leap 30 meters as Kizuna Red, and can leap even further and faster with the help of his Turbo Engine, covering a half day's travel by wyvern in two hours. During this time, he's moving so fast that he doesn't even notice that he flew right through three giant flying monsters, covering Yihdra in their guts.
  • In the Name of the Moon: In what is basically a standard for Sentai heroes, Red has a few of these himself:
    • When turning into Kizuna Red: "Burning brightly, the warrior of feverish friendship, Kizuna Red!!"
    • When turning into Kizuna Black: "Burning to cinders... the warrior of deep obsession... Kizuna Black."
    • When turning into Kizuna Red: Burning Blood: "Blood boiling brightly!! The warrior of passion!! Kizuna Red: Burning Blood!!"
    • When turning into Maximum Kizuna Red: "Grasp... the momentary glimmer of miracle bonds!! Maximum Kizuna Red!!"
  • It Runs on Nonsensoleum: According to Red himself, his powers run on "Bond Energy" produced by his bonds with others. To Yihdra's frustration, it's incredibly vague and wishy-washy. So long as he's been introduced to someone and knows what motivates them, he considers it a bond and they're eligible to help him use his strongest moves and weapons, but the amount of power produced doesn't follow any kind of constants or rules. Lampshaded by Yihdra, who complains that it's full of loopholes in the way it decides what is and isn't a bond. Subverted later on, as Yihdra is able to puzzle out certain mechanics of Bond Energy on her own and work it with her own magic. By the story's climax, she's even able to construct her own Bond Gear and Bond Plate to transform into a ranger herself
  • Lightning Bruiser: Red can run at speeds of 33 m/s, punch with 20 tons of force, and take almost as much damage as he can dish out while transformed.
  • Mundane Utility: Most of Red's weapons have a band-aid motif that he uses to great effect, such as shooting giant band-aids as projectiles to bind enemies in place. But Red can also produce normal-sized band-aids with his Bond Gear, letting him treat and sanitize minor wounds like cuts and pricks.
  • Next Tier Power-Up: With the help of Yihdra's love for him soothing the deep-rooted pain in his heart, Red is able to finally master the power of Kizuna Black and use the emotions that fueled it to create an entirely new transformation: The Warrior of Passion, Kizuna Red: Burning Blood. While Burning Blood lacks the versatility and range of Kizuna Black's bandages, it makes up for it with sheer speed and power, best shown when Red's Burning Kizuna Bolt completely overwhelms Bad End despite the latter having transformed into Kizuna Black.
  • One-Way Visor: Red's helmet features a visor he can see through but others can't, though the art sometimes lets us see his eyes so we can make out his facial expressions.
  • Playing with Fire: As Kizuna Red, Red is a "Warrior of Flame" and makes stuff blow up just by punching it.
  • Powered Armor: Red achieved a "one-time miracle" during his adventures on the Planet Enkil during the Kizuna Five's final battle with Finally Taricorn, an evil Enkillian who sought to use his people's magical artifact to destroy the universe. The Shrine Maiden Fuquenne was able to use that treasure, the Shrinki-Cord, to shrink the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser into a suit of Bond Armor that Red could wear atop of his usual armor as "Maximum Kizuna Red". This form grants him all of the Kaiser's powers and none of the downsides of having to use a Humongous Mecha against a human-sized target. Yihdra is later able to reverse engineer the process by looking into Red's memories, allowing him to invoke this transformation one more time for as long as the magic-infused gadget she provided him lasts.
  • The Power of Hate: Whenever Red transforms into Kizuna Black, the Black Bond Armor Plate associated with it forcibly dredges up his pain from losing his parents (and later Silver) and his deep-rooted fears of isolation. Additionally, the power that is drawn out of him stems from not only his obsession with bonds, but also his immense hatred of those who try to take away the bonds of others.
  • The Power of Love: Red's third form, Kizuna Red: Burning Blood, is this, being the culmination of his and Yihdra's bond, especially their newly-confessed love for each other.
  • Scarf of Asskicking: Later in the story, Red unlocks a new Bond Armor, Kizuna Red: Burning Blood, after he and Yihdra confess their feelings for one another. This new form includes a blazing red scarf tied around his neck to go along with the surge of power that enables him to completely overpower the Bad End version of him who had mastered the power of Kizuna Black.
  • Screaming Warrior: As Kizuna Black, Red is wailing in anguish the entire time, as the plate is fueled by his despair and fear. He roars with rage when the demons try to attack his friends. All the while, his inner thoughts are filled with screaming about how he doesn't want to lose people he cares about again.
  • Sensual Spandex: Red's Ranger uniform hugs all of his curves quite snugly, showing off his chiseled Heroic Build. The anime calls attention to this with several closeups on different parts of his body while transforming in front of Yihdra for the first time. This is also Played for Laughs, as the spandex emphasizes his athletic bubble butt, something that the children at Stella Orphanage mock him for. On the other hand, Yihdra appreciates this.
  • Shaping Your Attacks: As Kizuna Black, he possesses a seemingly endless number of bandage-shaped tentacles that he can use to trap his opponents and strike them. He can also shape them into larger constructs like an enormous fist, an entire salvo for Pile Bunkers, or lightning rods to ground electric attacks at will.
  • Spin to Deflect Stuff: Red deflects the dragon's Breath Weapon by spinning the Cooperation-Calibur in his hand rapidly, sending the flames around him and Yihdra and leaving them unharmed.
  • Super Mode: In true Tokusatsu fashion, Red gains one in the form of Kizuna Red: Burning Blood, a form that symbolizes the bond of love between Red and Yihdra.
  • Sword and Gun: Red can wield both his Cooperation-Calibur and his Marriage Beam Gun to go to town on a small army of monsters with ease.
  • Sword Beam: The Variable Saber weapon that Red gains while in his Burning Blood transformation can switch between a bow and a wrist-mounted sword. This sword can fire off a storm of slashing sword beams when he plucks the strings of the bow part while swinging the sword.
  • Theme Music Power-Up: Red's first Transformation Sequence in the story is accompanied by the insert song, "Let's Go, Kizuna Five!" in the anime. Similarly, the arrival of the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser is heralded by "Maximum Kizuna Kaiser Explodes!"
  • Transformation Is a Free Action:
    • Red rarely has trouble squeezing in time to transform into Kizuna Red, and can even do it while charging forward into a head-on clash against Lowji, the World's Strongest Man. The animated adaptation lampoons this a bit by having his suit up sequence take about as much time as it would usually do in a Super Sentai show, that is to say, roughly half-a-minute.
    • Subverted when Abudabi and Vidan attack right after Red and the others exhausted themselves defeating Azir. Abudabi impales Red in the middle of his Transformation Sequence, taking him out of the fight and leaving him powerless to stop the ensuing mayhem until he decides to use his Dangerous Forbidden Technique.
    • Double Subverted during Red's final battle with Abudabi. Abudabi tries to prevent Red from using his new Burning Blood transformation by invoking his own Second Stage form and trying to kill Red first. However, Red's new Bond Plate flies to his rescue while knocking aside Abudabi's attacks and planting itself on Red's arm, ensuring that he gets to access Burning Blood regardless of Abudabi's efforts.
  • Transformation Trinket: In typical Henshin Hero fashion, Red slides a Bond Plate into his Bond Brace to start the transformation into Kizuna Red.
  • Translator Microbes: The "Kizuna Lingual Tuner" function of his Transformation Trinket instantly translates anything he says to those he has a bond with and vice versa, explaining how Red has no problems communicating despite being from an entirely different world.
  • Wave-Motion Gun: The Victory Kizuna Buster unleashes a huge laser that causes a massive explosion on impact. But it only works if all of its users are in sync and not arguing with one another, otherwise the beam will split in half and completely miss its target.

"I'll do whatever it takes to reclaim the position of 'Scepter' and bring smiles to people all over the world with the power of magic. That's my dream."

The proud, 16-year old scion of a family of wizards who served as the Royal Scepter for generations, her family lost much of its prestige and funds after her father lost a Wizard Duel to the current Scepter and later died. Short on funds for the research she needs to redeems her family in the eyes of the king, she seeks out a cheaper B-Rank Adventurer to help her in her studies, drawing the attention of Togo Asagaki, an eccentric hero from another world.

  • Action Girl: Yihdra is more than capable of kicking monster ass all over the place, which is fitting since she's training and preparing to become the Royal Scepter.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Yihdra's Kizuna Magus form appears much later in the series, debuting in Chapter 37. In the anime (albeit in a dream sequence), it appears during the end credits of the second episode.
  • Adaptation Dye-Job: Manga covers and artwork display her with black hair and black clothes, the anime instead gives her a purple color motif for both.
  • Alternate Self: Bonus materials state that at least one version of her from across the multiverse is that world's version of Kizuna Black, a powerful Sentai-esque ranger like Red. Other versions of her have comparatively mundane jobs such as being a mechanic, a Mission Control operator, or an actress.
  • Ambiguously Bi:
    • Yihdra quickly falls in love with Red for his kindness toward and constant support for her ambitions of helping people through magic. However, during the final confrontation with the Royal Demons, she responds to Shau'ha's attempt at Break Them by Talking by "smooching" her on the cheek. She then smirks while claiming that she's glad she got to see Shau'ha's cute side from the demon's Luminescent Blush and flustered reaction. Shau'ha is so offended by Yihdra's playful flirting that she calls Yihdra a slut before lashing at her with a tentacle. Yihdra herself said she does so just to mess with Shau'ha, though.
    • During the Demi-Human Federation arc, she learns that an alternate version of her is the most important person in the life of a female version of Red that is part of an idol-focused version of the Kizuna Five.
  • Badass Bookworm:
    • Yihdra's magical abilities are great enough to get her labeled as an Archmage on her first day of being an adventurer. But she's also a researcher first and foremost who hopes to use her skills to help people in their everyday lives. She's able to pick apart and engineer magic remarkably quickly after observing it, even taking the current Royal Scepter, Shau'ha, aback when Yihdra turns a one-way hologram projector into a two-way communication device in the span of a conversation.
    • Later on, she would create a spell that would forcefully snap Red out of Kizuna Black, allowing him to safely use it. And then through her studies and understanding of the power of Bonds, would create a new elemental Bond that would give the Kizuna Kaizer it's new Super Mode armed with all Elemental Powers alongside a set of weapons that can be swapped freely for a near unrivaled versatility.
    • In Chapter 37, her magical abilities combined with her research into Red's powers culminate in her creating a Ranger form of her own — Kizuna Magus.
  • Badass on Paper:
    • Yihdra is a powerful wizard, but she pales before Red's over-the-top sentai firepower. But after shushing Red to keep him from complicating the conversation with his frankness and inability to read the room, Teltina comes to the conclusion that Yihdra was the one who defeated the Mana Seed monster the first time, which Yihdra just rolls with.
    • Subverted later on, as her involvement becomes crucial to many of the heroes' victories. She is responsible for creating a way for Red to use the power of Kizuna Black with minimal risk. Her mutual feelings for Red would then lead to the creation of Kizuna Red: Burning Blood. Finally, through the creation of a new elemental bond that would give Red's mech, a new Super Mode that utilizes all the Elemental Powers. She then gains ranger powers of her own when she creates her own version of a Bond Gear and Bond Plate for the final battle with the Royal Demon, standing on even footing with Red, Lowji, and Raniya in the bruiser department on top of her mastery of magic.
  • Barrier Warrior: Her Overshade spell surrounds her and her allies in a bubble of darkness that keeps out magical powers, allowing her to prevent Louluguat's monsters from teleporting in when Lowji is injured. It unfortunately takes a lot of effort to maintain, which isn't helped by the rest of the heroes deciding to drop an Exposition Dump and work out their issues instead of recovering and counterattacking.
  • Batman Gambit: She defeats Azir's hired mercenary Euges by anticipating that he'd defend himself with his cards and try to bait her into one so she'd get sucked in. Before getting trapped completely, she engraves the Sun Elves' spell for "Explosion" onto the edge of the card, blowing it up in his face and knocking him unconscious. When he asks how she could possibly risk being so close to an explosion like that, Yihdra says that she's already used to experiencing explosions at close-range thanks to Red.
  • Beneath the Mask: Yihdra tries to act cool and poised at all times, but Red's antics quickly shatter her composure and make her act a lot more coarse than she would normally. She also tends to keep her more opportunistic side hidden behind a sweet smile when dealing with people like Princess Teltina, who can give Yihdra a leg up in reclaiming her father's title as the Royal Scepter.
  • Berserk Button: The one thing she absolutely cannot tolerate is an insult to her father, whom she was incredibly close to and taught her everything she knows.
  • Broken Pedestal: She doesn't take it well when she discovers that Shau'ha was not just a spy working for the demons, but one of their top leaders as well. Made even worse was when after much difficulty, it looked as if they had finally buried the hatchet and was moving on to becoming friends, only for Shau'ha to attack the country of Beast Folk and reveal to Yihdra her true identity, and that her real purpose was to sabotage the technological development of humanity, which completely betrays everything Yihdra thought they stood for.
  • Butt-Monkey: As a Squishy Wizard, she's the most prone to humiliating Slapstick. As the Only Sane Woman, she's the one most flabbergasted by the antics of her party members. And finally, her obvious crush on Red often results in her own embarrassment.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: She has a very large chest that leaves Teltina envious.
  • Cleavage Window: Yihdra's outfit is open at the top to reveal her cleavage and is completely open at the bottom to show her midriff.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Briefly when she sees Red and Raniya getting along a little too well to her displeasure. Teltina even calls her out on it. Yihdra is similarly jealous when Red brings up his adventures on the Planet Enkil, where he met the Shrine Priestess Fuquenne and promised to see her again one day. Yihdra asks if there was anything else between Red and Fuquenne, to which Red replies that there isn't and that Yihdra is focusing on the wrong thing given that they're making preparations for their final battle with the Royal Demons.
  • Conditioned to Accept Horror: Played for Laughs. Most people run away and scream in terror when explosions are about to go off nearby. But being around Red gradually numbs her to the idea of being around explosions. This is why she's able to stomach the idea of being in close proximity to an explosive seal she carves into Yuges' card as she's being sucked in to cause his plan to literally blow up in his face.
  • Covert Pervert: When the children from Stella Orphanage make fun of how Red's suit makes his butt look plump, Yihdra simply looks at them as if they were idiots and claims that his butt is the best part.
  • Daddy's Girl: No mention is made of Yihdra's mother, but Yihdra was incredibly close to her father and was inspired by his tireless efforts to better the lives of others even after losing the title of Royal Scepter. Slights against his name are the one thing that's guaranteed to set her off.
  • Damsel Assist: Almost immediately after treading into the Hidden Elf Village, Yihdra is kidnapped by a burly elf swinging on a vine, prompting Red to give chase. When Red has difficulty catching up to them, Yihdra utilizes a Bond Magic spell she developed alongside Red to teleport him to their location, allowing Red to get the drop on the elf and rescue Yihdra.
  • Damsel out of Distress: Yuges uses a spell to trap Yihdra and the denizens of the Sun Forest inside magical cards, and holds them hostage to stop Red and Raniya from attacking him. Yihdra then reveals she placed an explosive rune on her card before being trapped, which she detonates in Yuges' face, freeing herself and everyone.
  • Dead Alternate Counterpart: Yihdra learns that a version of herself from another timeline was killed when Betrayis turned on the heroes of that world to throw his lot in with the Demon Queen. This, along with Teltina being sacrificed to become a vessel for the Demon Queen, broke the Red of that world and turned him into a bitter Anti-Hero.
  • Dragon Rider: Well, wyvern rider, since actual dragons are considered dangerous, powerful beasts. Yihdra has a wyvern that she's close to and nuzzles like a horse, riding it to places for research. Unfortunately for her, Red has an even faster way of getting around by using his Turbo-Engine to fling them toward their destination at incredible speed.
  • Embarrassing but Empowering Outfit: She gains one after being temporarily transformed into a succubus, but as Teltina was quick to point out it wasn’t all that different from her usual outfit.
  • Exact Words: Teltina mentions that there aren't many people in this world who can stand up to Lowji in a fight. Yihdra mutters that there aren't many people in this world, but Red is from another one. Sure enough, he's strong enough to take Rosie head-on, but ends up resorting to the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser to finish the fight.
  • Flat "What": Seeing the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser for the first time short-circuits Yihdra's brain, reducing her to slurred speech as she wonders what the hell is going on. Lampshaded by Red, who asks if she's okay because her speech patterns completely changed.
  • Foil: Yihdra is this to Red. They're both kind and powerful people who want to make the world a better place. But while Yihdra is a genius magician who is snobby, manipulative, and conniving, Red is a Stock Shōnen Hero who's Book Dumb, obsessed with bonds, and tends to brute force his way through most problems.
  • Full-Contact Magic: After creating a new power by becoming Kizuna Magus, Yihdra begins wielding her magic in close combat in addition to her regular spells, whipping out new magical gadgets inspired by the spirits she invokes, such as a This Is a Drill weapon based on Gnome, and sending them hurtling into her enemies. She even finishes her fight with Shau'ha by repurposing the Royal Scepter and infusing its power into a giant Power Fist.
  • Gadgeteer Genius:
    • Much of Yihdra's research is focused on the application of magic to create magical tools that can be used by anyone. This makes her an expert magical engineer able to turn a one-way holographic device into a two-way communication system inside of a conversation. She shows off her magnum opus in the story's climax when she creates her own Bond Gear and Bond Plate after researching Red's powers with some help from Betrayis, letting her become a new Ranger: Kizuna Magus, complete with miniaturized versions of the new Kizuna Elements she created for Red and the ability to adapt other forms of magical technology into her arsenal provided she has some kind of bond to it.
    • Yihdra learns that Red's world has its own form of magic when he talks about the summer adventure the Kizuna Five had liberating the Planet Enkil from the Relationship Enders' control. She asks him to let her look into his memories for a way to reverse engineer it as an extra source of power before the final battle with the Demon Queen. It takes her just two days to grasp an entirely different system of magic from a different planet in another universe from second-hand observation of it, though she admits the gadget she came up with is slapdash due to her limited time and materials, meaning it will only work once. Red planned to save it for his fight with Domad, but ultimately decides to use it against Abudabi's Second Stage form because it's too powerful for Red to beat without pulling out all the stops.
  • Genius Bruiser: This is the end result of her new power as Kizuna Magus, retaining her mastery of magic while also gaining explosive Lightning Bruiser powers akin to Red and Lowji.
  • Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: Yihdra prefers to bombard her foes with magic at a distance (though she's not completely defenseless at close range either especially as Kizuna Magus), while Red tends to get up close and personal with the Cooperation-Calibur.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: Yihdra's figure is explicitly called "voluptuous" and Poseidon is worried that Red would go berserk at the continued sight of her in her typical, skimpy wizard outfit. The two B-rank adventurers who failed to defeat Yihdra's golem also fantasize about making her do things for them because of her huge rack. At least one version of her from across the multiverse is an even more glamorous actress.
  • Healing Hands: She possesses healing magic as well as offensive magic, using it to help Red recuperate after he gets in over his head.
  • Heroic RRoD: After expending an incredible amount of effort protecting the others in the middle of their Exposition Dump with her Overshade spell, Yihdra vomits once the barrier finally shatters.
  • Hot Witch: Yihdra's typical outfit consists of a long-sleeved, open shirt and short skirt that leave her midriff and cleavage exposed. She's also noted to be beautiful and buxom by others around her, to the point that even a dense Stock Shōnen Hero like Red notes that she's a beauty.
  • Hypocrisy Nod: Yihdra insults two adventurers as third-rate when they fail to defeat her golem and insult her father as a cowardly magician. But when they rush to protect her as she heals Red, she realizes that she was being just as judgmental as they were, overcoming her grudge against them. This creates enough of The Power of Friendship to recharge Red and summon the Victory Kizuna Buster again to win the fight.
  • An Ice Person: Her Celsius Spike spell stabs her opponent with a spear of ice.
  • Impoverished Patrician: Yihdra descends from a long line of wizards who used their position as the Royal Scepter to make the world a better place. But after her father lost a Wizard Duel, he lost his title and his family was subsequently exiled from the royal capital. In the present, Yihdra still lives in a lavish mansion, but only has Poseidon to staff it and lacks the funds to hire anyone more expensive than a B-rank adventurer to help her.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: Due to how Japanese Ranguage and phonetics work, Yihdra's name has been a considerable headache to transliterate into English. Is it Yihdra? Idora? Idra? Idola? Not even the official English translation for the manga was certain, as it initially went with "Idora" before switching to "Yihdra" around Chapter 28. Even after this switch, the translation sometimes spells her name as "Yidhra". The anime adaptation, however, Averted this completely by going with Yihdra from the get-go.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Yihdra is snobbish, manipulative, opportunistic, and condescending toward others due to her magical pedigree and her desire for revenge against the current Royal Scepter. Despite this, she genuinely wants to use the position to make the world a better place, and refuses to sacrifice others for the sake of her goals. Further, she is capable of self-reflection and changing herself for the better; she openly acknowledged her own hypocrisy regarding two adventurers when fighting the first Magic Seed fueled monster and overcame her grudge.
  • Kiss of Life: Yihdra performs CPR on Red after he nearly drowns from being knocked unconscious and thrown into a river by Louluguat's monsters. She admits that it's her First Kiss, but Red is oblivious to what she means by this being her "first time", as she's bailed him out on multiple occasions already.
  • Lady of Black Magic: She's a magician from a prestigious noble family capable of using complex spells. While she tries to carry herself with elegance befitting her family's history, Red tends to drive her crazy enough to resort to common and vulgar vernacular.
  • Leg Focus: Her short skirt and leggings are made for showing off her thighs, and right from her introduction (where they're crossed and front-center for the readers) the story shows them off to make sure you know how good they are.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: Unbeknownst to her, Yihdra became this for Red after they meet. He had given up hope of returning to his own world after trying and failing for months to find a way back on his own. Their meeting and her offer to develop trans-dimensional teleportation magic for him restored his belief that he could see his friends again. He continues to look to her for emotional support as the story goes on, with Red and Yihdra inspiring each other to do better. Her murder in an alternate timeline turned the Red of that timeline into a bitter, brutal Anti-Hero.
  • Love Epiphany: In the middle of the heroes' battle with Azir, Yihdra admits to herself that she's fallen in love with Red. Her deepening bond with him creates a new weapon for the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser that allows her to use the Humongous Mecha to bolster her own magic.
  • Magic Staff: Yihdra wields one as an archmage to help her use her magic.
  • Magitek: She had created metallic mechanical golems to act as bodyguards for her mansion.
  • Making a Splash: Her Undine Scream spell generates a high-pressure burst of water that can dismember monsters. She can then further manipulate it into a flying whirlpool to sweep away her enemies.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Yihdra's outfit leaves the tops of her sizable breasts, her midriff, and her thighs bare for all to see. Multiple characters in the story comment on her figure, eliciting feelings of lust or A-Cup Angst. Outside of her cape, her hat has more cloth than the rest of her outfit!
  • Not So Above It All: Upon transforming as Kizuna Magus, Yihdra quickly notes that it's not as fun to do without the sounds akin to Red's transformations.
  • Only Sane Woman: Yihdra is by far the most "normal" member of the party in terms of personality and the first one to snark at the zaniness around her. She's particularly flabbergasted when Red, Teltina, and Lowji decide to work out their differences while they're under attack from Louluguat's monsters, all while she's maintaining the slowly cracking barrier preventing them from getting pummeled.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome:
    • She's a powerful adventurer in her own right from the get-go, and a bonafide magical genius... but she adventures with Red, a Toku hero who beat the Big Bad. As a result, he tends to clear out most of the Mooks way faster than she can. She's overshadowed even more when Lowji joins the party, relegating Yihdra to the backline against the most dangerous threats the party faces. But her smarts and the flexibility of her magic keep her an integral part of the heroes' party who constantly gets them out of scrapes.
    • No longer overshadowed by the time they arrived to the Beast Folk country. When all hope seems lost when Shau'ha summons an army of Kaiju too dangerous for the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser to defeat, everyone else turned to Yihdra for help. Her desire to live up to people's faith in her combined with understanding of the Bond Energy allows her to create a new armor for the Kizuna Kaizer that combines it the great elemental spirits to defeat Shau'ha and her army. Then she takes it even further and creates a device to transform into Kizuna Magus to stand on even footing with Red.
  • Playing with Fire: Her Ifrit Blow spell punches a target with a fist-shaped burst of fire.
  • The Power of Love: Yihdra acknowledging her feelings for Red and her desperation to help him defeat Azir causes the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser to create a Magic Wand through which she can channel the mecha's energies into her magic. This lets her perform a massive Emergency Kizuna Warp to forcibly put Azir back together, allowing Raniya to placate him and Teltina to remove his Mana Seed.
  • Power of Trust: Despite Betrayis’ Jerkass behavior up until now and the fact that she had recently found out that his counterpart from had killed her she agreed to take the drug he had made that would temporarily transform her into a Half-Human Hybrid. A downplayed example given that she tested it beforehand to make sure it wasn’t dangerous.
  • The Red Mage: She is able to dole out punishment with elemental offensive magic as well as use Healing Magic to treat the wounds of others. However, although she's a Teen Genius, she's not The Archmage and she still doesn't hold a candle to Shau'ha's reign as the Royal Scepter yet.
  • Robe and Wizard Hat: Yihdra wears a huge wizard's hat wherever she goes, and Red makes a point of retrieving it and putting it back on her head after it's blown off in their second battle together.
  • Second Love: She's the second woman Red has fallen in love with.
  • Shaping Your Attacks: Most of Yihdra's spells shape an elemental attack into a more tangible form, such as Ifrit Blow turning fire into a flaming fist and Celsius Spike turning ice into the rough shape of a spearhead.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: She falls in love with Red for always supporting her and believing in her no matter what after years spent being derided as an Impoverished Patrician with overly idealistic dreams.
  • Slapstick: Yihdra is actually the one being subject to slapstick and humiliation the most in the early chapters. Her precious golem is blown to pieces by Red, she's covered in monster guts after Red sends them flying toward the Ruins of Wakemark, and she's nearly killed by the explosion of his Transformation Sequence immediately after he gives her a Declaration of Protection.
  • Squishy Wizard: She can blast away high-level monsters with her spells, but she wears no armor or protective equipment, and Red has to pull a Diving Save for her on more than one occasion.
  • Straight Man: It's usually her job to call out Red on his crazy Sentai antics.
  • Stripperific: Her outfit is impractically skimpy, leaving the tops of her breasts, her stomach, and her upper thighs bare. She gets an even skimpier outfit while visiting the desert the Sun Elves live in. After that, she gets another even more skimpy outfit when she temporarily transforms into a succubus.
  • Succubi and Incubi: Thanks to a drug developed by Betrayis, she's temporarily transformed into a succubus. This is done in order to dive into Red's heart and directly heal his trauma.
  • Teen Genius:
    • She's a teenager who is also a genius magician capable of fighting almost as well as a veteran adventurer. She exposits frequently on magical theory and is able to apply spells she's learned in combat the same day she learns about them. She's even able to apply the Sun Elves' engraving magic in combat after only seeing it and having it explained to her once. After discovering that Shau'ha snuck a one-way communication device and tracker onto her hat, Yihdra is able to quickly modify it to enable two-way communication, something that floors Shau'ha.
    • But her greatest feat that embodies this is her fight with Shau'ha, where her life's work allows her to understand Bond Energy and transform into a sentai hero like Red. She also manages to recreate miniature versions of their mecha's weapons to use in battle. And going even further than that, was when she smashed Shau'ha's first trump card of the royal scepter which was a powerful Anti-Magic tool with brute force, and then took its remains to quickly reforge it into a new weapon for herself during their battle in order to overcome her second trump card and defeat her.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After the Sun Forest arc, Yihdra learns how to adapt the sigil magic wielded by the Sun Elves for her own use, greatly improving her ability to respond to threats with how quickly she can inscribe them to achieve magical effects when her incantations fail her. She winds up being even more of a thorn in the side of the Appalling Beauty: Shau'ha, than Red is, as Yihdra's use of sigil magic lets her bombard Shau'ha with attacks from all angles. The finale of the battle has Yihdra unleash her own version of a Bond Plate and Bond Gear to become Kizuna Magus, becoming a Ranger-powered Lightning Bruiser on par with Red and Lowji.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Yihdra's dreams may be idealistic at the start of the story, but she suffers from a snobby arrogant streak and a belief that she knows best. But Red's influence forces her to confront her own flaws, both questioning her outlook while also encouraging her to be a much more understanding and kind person. She even tries to bury the hatchet with her Arch-Enemy, the current Royal Scepter Shau'ha, and see her viewpoint when she previously wrote her off as a tyrant. Even after Shau'ha reveals her true colors, Yihdra continues to try to understand her and even thanks Shau'ha for creating the Royal Scepter position in the first place. Yihdra even declares that she'll try to reconcile with the Demon Queen instead of killing her, despite Shau'ha believing such a thing to be impossible.
  • Tsundere: Despite always criticizing Red for everything he does, Yihdra does show concern for him as a friend. She also explains to two adventurers who insulted her father that she could never let someone die in front of them if she could help it, but not without saying that she can't have them die before they take their insults back. All while thinking to herself that she can't have them thinking she's fond of them.
  • Unreliable Expositor: Yihdra clearly has a bone to pick with Shau'ha for deposing Yihdra's father as the Royal Scepter. As such, her descriptions and theories of Shau'ha paint the new Scepter as an Evil Sorcerer who aims to monopolize and profiteer off the use of magic. When the heroes meet Shau'ha in person, they find that while she is indeed a Jerkass, her "monopoly" is actually a series of regulations designed to curb the issues caused by unregulated magic in order to protect lives. Her actions have a net positive effect on the people working under her and even Red admits that Shau'ha's logic is sound, even if he thinks her actions are overkill.
  • Unstoppable Rage: After having witnessed Demon Queen Idea kill a repentant Shau'ha in cold blood, seeing Idea attack Elemental Kizuna Master with a manifestation of Shau'ha's own magic infuriates Yihdra to the point her retaliatory attack overpowers the Demon Queen's and blows a huge hole in her side.
  • With Us or Against Us: Due to living most of her life with her back against the wall from the magical community, she has a tendency to group people into those her support her and those who are against her. She quickly latches onto Red emotionally as the first person other than Poseidon and her father to state that he openly believes in her dream. She's equally quick to write off her critics, especially after they insult her father. So she's heartbroken when she hears Red say that her dream won't be an easy one to achieve, believing that this meant that he never believed in her at all. Yihdra rushes out the window before he's finished talking, missing out on how Red believes her dream is worth chasing because of how hard it is to achieve. Red eventually convinces her to let go of this mindset, encouraging Yihdra to work with Shau'ha instead of against her to create a better world.

Princess Teltina is the third princess of the Avallost Empire. She comes to Yihdra's mansion in hopes of seeking her aid in destroying the mana seeds being proliferated by the current Royal Scepter, Shau'ha.

  • A-Cup Angst: Her bust is relatively modest, and she wonders if she and Yihdra really are the same age given the differences in their figures.
  • Adaptational Dye-Job: She has silver hair in the manga but the anime depicts it being light indigo instead.
  • All Your Powers Combined: Teltina ignites her Big Bond Soul to take control of her Privilege Spell and convert it into a transformation that lets her fight alongside Lowji instead of cowering behind him. In addition to granting her armor, a sword, and superhuman strength and speed to keep up with him, she is able to use all of the Privilege Spells in the Mana Seeds that Vrykolakas has already absorbed, including Azir's sand manipulation, Elmario's Intangibility, and Aliyah's Self-Duplication.
  • Ambiguously Bi: While she has quite a bit of Ship Tease with Lowji, she's also shown to find other women attractive such as when she gropes Yihdra in the bath or when the party meets the orphanage matron Stella and she's just as stunned by her beauty as Red, even going as far as to ask him if he also thinks she's hot.
  • Animal Motifs: Her Cute Little Fangs, silver hair, and furred clothing all point to wolves. She can also summon a giant eyeless wolf known as Vrykolakas with the ability to eat and regurgitate those infected by the mana seeds to remove them from their hosts. Fittingly enough, her half-demon form resembles a wolf.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: After hearing his story on how he came to her world, Teltina asks Red why a "warrior of bonds" like him chose to fight the Break-Up King alone without his teammates. It's the first time in the story that Red is genuinely speechless. He quickly refutes her after she says that he probably sacrificed himself for the sake of others, stating that he didn't intend to die at all, but he initially stutters rather than speaking with his usual absolute confidence.
  • The Atoner: During her Heroic RRoD in Chapter 26, she claims that stopping the Royal Demons with the power inherent from her older brother is her atonement.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: Her ability to summon Vrykolakas, a wolf that can extract mana seeds is a power granted by her own mana seed.
  • Beneath the Mask: She usually carries herself with the poise expected from a princess, but she can be quite excitable, innocent, and insensitive in her more private moments, as shown by her fascination with Red's abilities and her cheeky comments about what appears to be Red and Yihdra flirting. This mask of poise was actually fashioned in response to an incident during her reckless youth and growing up she was a spoiled brat with a major attitude and nowhere near as proper as she presents herself in the present.
  • Cannibalism Superpower: After forcibly transforming Vrykolakas power into Vlad Asena, Teltina gains the ability to freely use any of the Privilege Spells used by the Mana Seeds that Vrykolakas has consumed. This includes being able to summon Azir's Was to pin down her foes, phasing through attacks with Elmario's Freestyle, and cloning herself to overwhelm her foes with Aliyah Kreighan's Swampmen.
  • Catchphrase: "Please tell me honestly..." whenever she has to get Lowji to speak truthfully rather than hiding his feelings behind a veneer of etiquette and heroic pride.
  • Commonality Connection:
    • After Red regales her with the story of his adventures as Kizuna Red, Teltina correctly deduces that he decided to take on the Break-Up King alone so none of his friends would get hurt. She explains that she feels the same way, and that she'll gladly put her life on the line so others won't have to.
    • She also feels the same kinship with Lowji, as like him, she couldn't rely on the other members of royalty who did nothing while the mana seeds were sown. Because of this, she was just as lonely as he was when she sought him out two years ago to become her Hero.
  • Cool Crown: Wears a small hoop crown to demonstrate her royal status.
  • Covert Pervert: Despite being a bubbly, poised princess, she has a bit of a dirty side, being amused when it looked like Red and Yihdra were going to have sex, offers Lowji a Lap Pillow and Ear Cleaning to control him, gropes Yihdra in the bath, and then is willing to send Red in for an Accidental Pervert moment to get him and Yihdra closer together.
  • Cute Little Fangs: Her teeth are noticeably sharp during closeups on it.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Her wolf is capable of inflicting this, as demonstrated when Yihdra and Red can't stop petting it.
  • Did You Just Have Sex?: After Yihdra accidentally teleports Red into her bath, she decides to give him a "thorough examination" to determine the connection between him, Bond Energy, and mana metal. Unfortunately, she did this all night in her bathrobe, leaving both her and Red feeling terribly embarrassed and awkward. Upon seeing this, Teltina asks if Yihdra had performed a Bond-Merger with Red. To make things even more awkward, she asks this in the middle of the royal court.
  • Dope Slap: She smacks the back of Lowji's head when he's being unreasonable.
  • Ermine Cape Effect: Her wealth and status is illustrated by the ornate crown on her head and the luxurious furred cape she wears over her black dress.
  • Forced Transformation: After nearly being overwhelmed by the sheer amount of Mana Seeds she had to eat during the battle with Kreighan, she is transformed into a wolf-like half demon. While Professor Betrayis was able to revert her back to her human form, his efforts were only a mere stopgap to shield her soul from further erosion from her Mana Seed, and warns her that using her power again could permanently revert her back to a half-demon.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Her hairtyle when she was a younger, Tomboy Princess.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Not by birth but she turns into a lupine half-demon after pushing her Privilege Magic too far.
  • Hellish Pupils: Teltina has uniquely slit eyes in comparison to the pupils of everyone else, which several panels close up on her face call attention to.
  • Heroic RRoD: Teltina is forced to take in the magical power contained within the mana seeds that Vrykolakas eats. Eating too many of them in a short period of time causes her to collapse from taking in too much magic.
  • Instant Expert: Late in the story, Teltina demonstrates swordsmanship praised as "outstanding" by Lowji after transforming into Vlad Asena through her Big Bond Soul and her Mana Seed. Teltina chocks this up to watching Master Swordsmen like him, Red, and Regulus fight for all this time, leading her to imitate their movements once she finally has the ability to defend herself.
  • Knightly Sword and Shield: Teltina takes up a sword and shield after transforming into Vlad Asena with the power of her Big Bond Soul and her Privilege Spell to fight alongside her friends. These knightly weapons represent her resolve to fulfill her duty to dispose of all the Mana Seeds that have caused so much misery and her desire to stop hiding behind her friends for protection.
  • Lady and Knight: The Bright Lady to Lowji's White Knight. Teltina is the princess Lowji has sworn to protect at all costs.
  • Little Bit Beastly: After completely mastering the power of Vrykolakas and transforming into her armored form as Vlad Asena, Teltina is permanently left with a wolf's ears and tail. She admits it'll take some getting used to, but given that she's less obviously beastly than her previous Half-Human Hybrid appearance, she believes she'll have an easier time explaining this to her brother Dariel.
  • Locked into Strangeness: She became a wolf-like half-demon after overtaxing herself devouring too many Mana Seeds. Professor Patchwork was able to suppress the transformation and return her to her human form but warns her that if she uses Vrykolakas again, she'll be stuck as a demon forever.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: Implied trope, since she is so quick to jump on friendship, and comments in Bathtub Bonding with Yihdra how she has never bathed with someone her own age before.
  • Meta Guy: Teltina is surprisingly aware of literary tropes and is the one who hangs a lampshade on the series' absurdities the most, such as calling out Lowji's tsundere behavior toward Red verbatim. She also complains when the party asks "Did it work!?" when the Maximum Kizuna Blaster fails to destroy a target, as she knows a plan has failed anytime four or more people ask that question.
  • Miles to Go Before I Sleep: While suffering a Heroic RRoD after eating all of Kreigan's Mana Seeds, she proclaims that she can't die yet, that she doesn't deserve to "rest" until she's destroyed all of the mana seeds and the Royal Demons are stopped.
  • My Greatest Failure: In chapter 34, it's revealed that she's at least partially responsible for the deaths of Yihdra and Raniya's fathers as well as her own brother Atleo. Her brother Atleo had been working with Yihdra's father to try and curb the spread of magic seeds before they could become widespread, and Raniya's father (the previous Amun) accompanied them for extra support. Teltina snuck aboard their carriage to get out of the palace and see more of the world, which ended up getting her caught in the middle of a battle between Atleo's group and a circus ringmaster wielding a magic seed. Teltina was poisoned in the struggle and desperately attached a Mana Seed to herself in an attempt to have her desire of not dying be granted, only to immediately be transformed into a monster due to her weakened body not being able to handle the seed's power. Alteo planted a Mana Seed onto himself to gain the ability to remove her Mana Seed non-lethally, but was forced to sacrifice his life to pass his seed on to her since her seed had been acting as life support for the internal organs affected by the poison. Yihdra and Raniya's fathers were also exposed to the poison while giving Atleo the chance to save her and died several months afterward.
  • The Needs of the Many: She feels it's her duty as the princess to help others at her own expense, even if it comes at the cost of her own life. Teltina feels a connection with Red, who faced the Break-Up King along to keep his friends out of harm's way.
Teltina: If one person's sacrifice can save many others from getting hurt, then I'll gladly be that sacrifice. I'm just the same as you.
  • Nice Girl: Teltina is bubbly, friendly, and outgoing, reining in her haughty attendant and quickly striking up enough of a friendship with Red to be swept into the cockpit of the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser.
  • Pretty in Mink: Teltina's dress features a fur trim that underscores how expensive and luxurious it is thanks to her royal status.
  • Protectorate: Teltina is this to Lowji, who is head-over-heels for her and is constantly vying for her affections while going full Ax-Crazy against anyone who may have disrespected her (or interrupted her alone time with him).
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: She's aware of the dangerous and inhumane experiments being conducted by the Royal Scepter Shau'ha and seeks out Yihdra's help to stop them, knowing full well that speaking out conventionally will end with her being "disposed of".
  • Self-Duplication: After transforming into Vlad Asena, Teltina gains Aliyah's ability to create duplicates herself due to devouring the knight's Mana Seed with Vrykolakas. She tries to use this to overwhelm a mutated Regulus, but he manages to sweep her and her clones aside, leading Lowji to step up to take down his big brother.
  • Shipper on Deck: When Red is about to take a dip in an outdoor bath to clean up after a long day of training, Teltina purposefully neglects to tell him that Yihdra is still in the bath so they'll run into each other naked.
  • Shout-Out: Vlad Asena's knightly appearance and wolf theming is a clear shout out to GARO.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: Gentle and kind she may be, but Teltina can be forceful when the situation requires it, sternly ordering Lowji to help Red rather than protect her when the demon responsible for proliferating the mana seeds is right in front of them.
  • Squishy Wizard: Unlike the rest of the heroes, Teltina can't defend herself. Even her privilege-type magic is controlled by her desire to only destroy the mana seeds and to not hurt anyone, resulting in Vrykolakas being a Big Friendly Dog who would lose a fight to a stray animal.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: She has golden eyes and her unique Privilege Spell can destroy the mana seeds without harming the host.
  • Survivor Guilt: Teltina is haunted by the fact that she survived an incident that killed her brother Alteo, who gave his life to save her after she's poisoned by a Mana Seed-created monster. Given that she wasn't supposed to even be there and stowed away aboard the carriage he was riding to seek attention, she blames herself for Alteo's, Ravan's, and Haodie's deaths.
  • Took a Level in Badass: She eventually awakens a Big Bond Soul of her own, and uses it in conjunction with her Mana Seed to generate her own transformation as Vlad Asena.
  • True Blue Femininity: Teltina is a very feminine silver-haired princess wearing a luxurious blue dress and is experienced in courtly manners in contrast to the Impoverished Patrician Yihdra who is often quicker to anger. The anime adaptation colors Teltina's hair a pale blue instead, putting even further emphasis on this.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: As party members, Teltina quickly befriends Red and learns to relax and smile around him, even finding common ground with him before asking him to protect her so they can both achieve their goals. Their increasing closeness enrages Lowji, who steals the Bond Plate before the fight with Louluguat's monsters to get Red killed.
  • Used to Be a Tomboy: Her elder brother remarks how a rash Tomboy Princess became such a meek, serious woman. It's all but stated that Teltina is trying to act the way she thinks her brother Alteo would have both to keep his memory alive and to atone for Alteo sacrificing his life to save her.
  • Utility Party Member: Teltina can't help out in combat at all, but her authority as a princess is useful for getting around and her privilege magic, Vrykolakas, is the only thing capable of destroying a mana seed and safely remove it from a host. She graduates from this role after taking control of her Mana Seed with her Big Bond Soul, transforming into Vlad Asena, a Knight in Shining Armor with all the powers of the Mana Seeds that Vrykolaka consumed.
  • Wise Beyond Her Years: Although Teltina appears to be a bubbly 15-year-old, she takes her royal duties very seriously, coming to Yihdra explicitly to request aid in destroying the mana seeds. She also reads all of Yihdra's reports to the royal family and hopes to implement them to improve the lives of her people.

Lowji Mist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rosie_mist_0.png
"The only love I need is yours, Lady Teltina. If I have it, I'd become a hero who can slay anything and anyone."

The hero of his world and a former S-Rank Adventurer known as "the Demon Swordsman" before retiring to become Princess Teltina's attendant. He's deeply in love (or obsessed) with the princess and tries to earn her affections any way he can, growing irate when others disrespect her or interrupt his alone time with her.

  • All of the Other Reindeer: Before meeting Teltina, he was ostracized for being the Un-Sorcerer, the first in a thousand years. His flashbacks show him fleeing from crowds throwing stones at him and laughing at his plight the minute they learn of his condition. Because of this, he doesn't give a damn about anyone besides Teltina.
  • Anti-Magic: The Royal Holy Sword constantly drains the magical energy of anything it touches, making it impossible for anyone who isn't an Un-Sorcerer to wield. This also lets it cleave through magical effects with ease, making Lowji a thorn in Shau'ha's side once she reveals her true colors.
  • The Atoner: After trying to get Red killed by stealing his Bond Plate, Lowji shoves Red out of the way of Abudabi's attack to atone, justifying it as "a whim of mine".
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: After letting Red get his butt kicked by Louluguat's demons, Lowji is able to determine the monsters' attack patterns and perfectly counter them with the different forms of the Royal Holy Sword.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: His Dark and Troubled Past as the Un-Sorcerer in a magic-dominated society left him constantly homeless and ostracized. Teltina is the first person who to be nice to him... ever. He falls deeply in love with her for her kindness and became fanatically devoted to her because of it.
  • BFS: His personal weapon, the Royal Holy Sword, is a Morph Weapon able to change its shape for a variety of effects, but all of its forms are as long as he is tall at the minimum. Chapter 36 reveals the sword's actual name is "The Sword of One's Mortifying Past", given by Anuma to mock The Legendary Hero.
  • Black Eyes of Crazy: His eyes darken into these when he's truly angry.
  • Bodyguard Crush: Lowji is clearly in love with Teltina, but she seems to cherish him as a friend and protector more than anything. This fuels his raging jealousy when Red quickly makes friends with her.
  • Braids of Action: He's a powerful swordsman with his hair tied into a braid on the right side.
  • Brutal Honesty: When he isn't playing the part of the hero, Lowji doesn't mince words and will say exactly what's on his mind, including his contempt for anyone who isn't Teltina.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Lowji has Single-Target Sexuality for Princess Teltina and doesn't want anyone to interrupt his travels with her. His astoundingly petty Crazy Jealous Guy personality belies his strength and skill as the World's Strongest Man, managing to push back even Red's Maximum Kizuna Kaiser with brute force.
  • The Champion: He became the Hero not to protect his world, but to protect Princess Teltina.
  • The Chosen One: Subverted. As the only one able to wield the Royal Holy Sword, Lowji is known as the newest Hero. But there is no prophecy dictating that Lowji specifically would become the Hero, he just so happened to be born as the first Un-Sorcerer in a thousand years, qualifying him to wield the Royal Holy Sword. His fame as a powerful magicless swordsman caught Teltina's attention and she sought him out to make him the Hero.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Elmario attempts to escape after Lowji and Red gain the upper hand, Lowji is left puzzled on how to stop him because while he could use Glutsylph to restrain him or Dragwrath to bypass his intangibility, he doesn't have a sword that could do both at the same time. Red suggests that they combine their powers, but Lowji interprets that as combining Glutsylph and Dragwrath into a new sword, Gludrasylph, to finish off the corrupt noble. Red, though incredibly impressed, states that that's not at all what he meant.
  • Comical Overreacting: Lowji is prone to resorting to violence over the slightest potential affronts to Princess Teltina even when he's the one who started it (i.e. walking in on Yihdra on top of Red while shielding him from Poseidon's clippers). He later flies into a rage over Teltina calling Red by his nickname rather than his given one, screaming that Teltina had never called him by a nickname before. Lowji's anger only grows when Red starts calling him "Lo-kun", swinging his sword at an oblivious Red.
  • Cool Sword: The Royal Holy Sword is was created by fusing seven holy swords together and is the prized weapon that was once used by a previous hero to seal away the Demon Queen a thousand years before the story. It's a Morph Weapon capable of changing its shape to change its abilities and is powerful enough to stagger even Red's Maximum Kizuna Kaiser.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy:
    • Lowji is obsessed with having Princess Teltina's affections and is pissed when Red fails to show her proper reverence and gets buddy-buddy with her, threatening to kill him repeatedly over minor slights like getting called by a nickname first. When Teltina tells him to be honest about his reasons for not wanting Red to join them, Lowji says that he doesn't want anyone interrupting his alone time with her. His feelings of jealousy toward Red's increasing closeness to Teltina escalate to the point that he purposefully sabotages Red by stealing his Bond Plate to prevent him from transforming in the middle of their important battle in hopes of getting him killed.
    • The one person Lowji may despise more than Red is Teltina's fiance, Regulus. While Regulus is kind to both Teltina and Lowji, Lowji can't stand him because Regulus is a living reminder of how he can't be together with his beloved princess. Lowji luckily has enough restraint to avoid attacking him the way he does with Red, but it's clear that he's envious of Regulus' engagement to her.
  • Curb-Stomp Cushion: Lowji's fight against Maximum Kizuna Kaizer is admittedly an overkill against his favor, to the point that the mere shockwave of Great Bond Sword's swing is enough to launch him to the sky, but the fact that he's able to even stagger the Humongous Mecha is nothing short of impressive.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Lowji was mocked and ostracized his entire life for lacking magical power. He as abandoned by his parents at an orphanage, where he was bullied constantly without any intervention from the orphanage's caretakers, who shrugged when he fled and believed he'd probably die in a ditch somewhere. Despite managing to become a famous and successful adventurer, Lowji continued to be ridiculed by his peers, severely impairing his ability to trust and care about others. When Teltina approaches him to make him the Hero, Lowji balks at the idea of becoming the hero of a world that hates him.
  • Defrosting Ice King: Lampshaded. Lowji tells Red that he agrees to travel with him, but makes it clear that he doesn't intend on getting closer to him. Red accepts these terms, as he's never met anyone who's said them who doesn't become a good friend in the end. Sure enough, Lowji gradually becomes much more tolerant of Red over time and increasingly goes out of his way to help him.
  • Disability Immunity: The Holy Sword is so powerful that anyone with magic would get sucked dry of energy and be rendered helpless not long after grabbing it. Lowji is one of a handful of individuals in the world without any magical power at all, making him a rare individual with the strength and skill to draw out the sword's full potential without suffering from its downside. It's another reason why he feels so threatened by Red, since Red also can't produce magic and could theoretically wield the sword (and thus, Teltina could rely on Red instead of him).
  • Disability Superpower: Lowji is completely unable to use or produce magic in a society that prizes this trait highly. He was bullied, mocked, and eventually driven to living on the streets because of it. However, his disability is made relevant because the Holy blade he uses feeds on the magical energy of all that touch it, which means he's the only one who can even pick the thing up, much less use it to its full potential. Anyone else who tries to wield it will collapse, drained of magical energy.
  • Distressed Dude: He's sucked into a card while trying to rescue Teltina from one of the Mana Seed users, leaving Yihdra the only one capable of saving them while Red and Raniya fight off Azir.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Lanars, the Fifth Giant who sacrificed himself to seal away the Demon Queen, fuses with Lowji's soul after the latter suffers a fatal wound from fighting Domad. This grants Lowji access to Lanars' Ultimail, Guts Nova, which raises all of his stats to match his foe's, allowing Lowji to damage Domad despite the demon's mana superiority-based Nigh-Invulnerability. He can even taken on a giant form akin to Ultraman with his Ultima Mode, granting him stature and strength on par with the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Lowji struggles to chase after Elmario, whose Intangibility Privilege Spell lets him pass through any of Lowji's attacks besides the flames of Dragwrath and the Anti-Magic ability of his sword's first form. Red insists that they combine their powers to overcome Elmario. Red's comment gives Lowji an epiphany that there's nothing stopping him from combining his sword's various forms, combining Dragwrath and Glutsylph to creating a flaming Storm of Blades that can chase after and overwhelm Elmario to take him down.
  • Evolving Weapon: While he can already use seven different Holy Sword attacks, Lowji comes up with the idea of combining two of them at a time into a far more powerful Combination Attack in Chapter 24 when Red suggests that they "join forces". Chapter 36 reveals that Professor Betrayis never designed the sword with any such combination ability in mind. He also added that Lowji even being able to pull it off signified that he had both mastered using the sword better than even the Legendary Hero and awakened his own Big Bond Soul, just like Red's.
  • Famed in Story: He's (in)famous as "the Demon Swordsman" for his personality and incredible power, defeating numerous high-level dungeons on his lonesome and slaying fearsome beasts like dragons without outside aid. Teltina even says he's one of the strongest beings in the world.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: He's initially extremely antagonistic toward Red, considering him a rival for Teltina's affections and believing himself to be the only protection Teltina needs. But Red's unrelenting kindness toward him and Lowji realizing his own inadequacies has him become much more tolerant of Red's antics and showing a much greater willingness to cooperate with and support him. It isn't long before he's allowed to board the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser, demonstrating his new bond with Red. He even ends up Taking the Bullet for Red and later allows himself to take a severe shoulder injury to save Red from the Kizuna Black transformation.
  • Flower Motifs: Roses. Lowji is a Pretty Boy who appears to be a perfect gentleman and hero on the surface. But like a rose, Lowji is thorny on the best of days, between his severe, Yandere-level Bodyguard Crush and aloof personality. Lowji's associations with the color blue also make him a blue rose, which do not exist in nature and are thus uniquely rare, going along with him being a rare Un-Sorcerer.
  • Foil: To Red. Red is all about making as many friends as possible, while Lowji is a dedicated loner who only cares about Princess Teltina and actively refuses friendship with everyone else. The more each presses their views on the other, the more resolved the other grows to prove them wrong. Their troubled pasts are also surprisingly similar, with both men suffering intense personal issues as a result of being abandoned by their families. Red copes by trying to befriend as many people as possible to mask his fear of loss, while Lowji became cold and standoffish in response to the cruelty heaped upon him.
  • Freudian Excuse: A lifetime spent being ostracized and jeered for lacking magical power has crippled Lowji's ability to trust others aside from Teltina, the first to embrace him and give him the purpose and companionship he so desperately craved.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Anything that can be remotely considered an insult to Teltina will fill him with murderous intent, as does any time Red manages to inadvertently one-up him.
  • Headbutting Heroes: A completely one-sided example. Red is hyped to work alongside another hero like Lowji, but Lowji wants nothing to do with Red, who he sees as nothing more than an obstacle in the way of his affections for Teltina. Teltina has to bribe Lowji with offers of ear cleaning and a lap pillow for him to agree with work with Red. And yet, even that is not enough for him, and he attempts to Murder the Hypotenuse by stealing Red's Bond Plate, preventing him from transforming before an important fight.
  • Heel–Face Reincarnation: In Chapter 30, it's revealed that Lowji was none other than the Break-Up King who killed Silver, Betrayis, and Red in his past life. Seeing this is what convinces Professor Patchwork or rather Betrayis that Red is the only one capable of beating the Demon Queen, as only Red's Big Bond Soul has the ability to forcibly return her soul to the cycle of reincarnation to wipe her abilities and memories completely. This is also why Lowji instinctively can't bring himself to like Red even after risking life and limb for him.
  • Hero Antagonist: He antagonizes Red for his overly friendly frankness and lack of manners toward Princess Teltina, but Lowji is the hero of his world and a powerful force for good who has slain monsters, dragons, and demons in the princess' name. This animosity is later revealed to be because Lowji's previous incarnation was Togo's archenemy, the Break-Up King.
  • Heroic BSoD: After seeing that Regulus and Dariel had been turned into Mana Beasts by Vidara, he does everything in his power to prevent Teltina from using Vrykolakas and going berserk, even resolving kill them if worst comes to worst. But right as he lands a seemingly fatal blow on Regulus, Vidara shows his memories to Lowji, revealing that he's Lowji's older brother. Learning this crushes his resolve and leaves him nearly catatonic. Luckily, Teltina's transformation into Vlad Asena snaps him out of it.
  • Hero with an F in Good: Lowji is incredibly powerful and skilled, to the point of overwhelming Red and forcing him to summon the Kizuna Kaiser to even the odds. However, Lowji is also incredibly standoffish toward everyone but Teltina and is crazily possessive of her. Lampshaded by Louluguat, who points out that for all Lowji's strength as the hero, he's woefully inexperienced at defending others.
  • Hopeless Suitor: He could not be more blatant about his feelings for Princess Teltina, but she seems to treat him as Just Friends.
  • Hot-Blooded. Lowji is passionate about protecting the princess (and being alone with her), reacting violently to any perceived slights against her.
  • It's All About Me: Despite his noble deeds and the glory he's obtained as the hero, all he ultimately cares about is himself and being with Teltina. So when it looks like Red is making her happier than Lowji ever could, Lowji takes it upon himself to steal Red's Bond Plate to get him killed by Louluguat's monster, coldly remarking that Red and his bonds "aren't needed in my world".
  • I Work Alone: Discussed. For most of his life, Lowji has worked alone due to recieving Fantastic Racism for being the sole Un-Sorcerer. This led him to constantly push past his limits and reach ever greater heights of strength, as he had no one to rely upon but himself. But after Red and Yihdra joined him and Teltina, he worries that his thirst for strength is withering away because Red and Yihdra can support him enough that he doesn't have to break his limits. This leads him to push Red away again out of fear of not being able to muster the strength to protect the people he cares about in a time of crisis.
  • Jerkass to One: Inverted. He's nothing but polite and devoted to Teltina, but he's an irritable prick to everyone else, resorting to death threats at the drop of a hat and laughing as he watches Red get pummeled by Louluguat's monsters.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While he's mostly haughty and strict to anyone that addresses Princess Teltina, he does have a noble heart and he does accept the trust of those who earn it. He's also genuinely in love with Teltina and wants to protect her at all costs, growing understandably angry when it looks like Red took her hostage in the middle of their duel. But his jealousy toward Red twists Lowji into a Yandere as he ends up putting his desire to be the only one Teltina can rely upon above his vow to Teltina to help him, stealing Red's Bond Plate to leave him at a monster's mercy even if it means jeopardizing the mission to save Akalina. Even after Red forgives him, Lowji continues to sling insults at Red's face... but they still have enough of a bond for Lowji to board the Kizuna Kaiser.
  • Just Friends: To Lowji's chagrin, Teltina treats him more as a valued friend and companion than a lover, and he's constantly trying to obtain her affections and be alone with her to rectify this.
  • Lady and Knight: The White Knight to Princess Teltina's Bright Lady. Lowji swore loyalty to the princess and is completely devoted to protecting her.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After laughing at Red and letting him get attacked by Louluguat's monsters, Lowji is on the receiving end of a beatdown from those same monsters after his attempt to Murder the Hypotenuse by stealing Red's Bond Plate puts Teltina in danger, forcing Lowji to shield her with his own body.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Lowji is called the strongest swordsman and can even take the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser head-on in a contest of strength and push it back. In the end, Red is forced to Twinkle in the Sky Lowji by sending him flying with the wind produced by a swing of the Great Bond Sword, but even this isn't enough to kill Lowji.
  • Long-Lost Relative: Lowji discovers the identity of the family that abandoned him later in the story. The Machvolts believed his Un-Sorcerer status to be an ill omen that would bring ruin upon their noble household, leading them to abandon Lowji at the orphanage. Lowji's older brother, Regulus, is the sole member of the family shown to oppose this and has long desired to reunite withand reconcile with Lowji. But Regulus is too burdened by the guilt of his failure to stop his parents' decision to abandon Lowji to admit his relation outright.
  • Made of Iron:
    • During his fight with Red, the Kizuna Kaiser sends him hurtling high into the air, leading to him plummeting miles away. Yet despite Yihdra's concern that Red might have have accidentally killed him, aside from being left unconscious by the fall, he's ultimately no worse for wear.
    • During the battle against the Appalling Beauty, Lowji gets poisoned, causing blood to pour out of all of his orifices, requiring Yihdra to heal him. Despite nearly dying, Shau'ha expresses shock that he survived long enough to be healed, as she claims that her poison could kill a dragon in a second.
  • Master Swordsman: Even before becoming the hero, Lowji garnered a name for himself as a powerful swordsman, with Teltina calling him the "strongest swordsman" in the present. He's able to effortlessly swap between the seven forms of the Royal Holy Sword to slaughter monsters en masse. When he finally develops enough of a bond with Red to board the Kizuna Kaiser, Red trusts him to handle the Great Bond Sword because of Lowji's skills.
  • Morph Weapon: The Royal Holy Sword is an ancient blade capable of transforming seven forms, most of which possessing elemental abilities or at least motifs, all based off of the Seven Deadly Sins:
    • First Holy Sword - Ungreed: The base Non-Elemental form. This form rapidly drains mana from whatever makes contact with it, which is the reason why only an Un-Sorcerer like Lowji or Red can wield it
    • Second Holy Sword - Dragwrath: Its fire-based form, which can unleash waves of flames.
    • Third Holy Sword - Envydyne: This blade can unleash jets of water that Lowji can manipulate to impale his foes.
    • The Fourth Holy Sword - Slothgnome: An earth-themed sword which can greatly increase gravity within a certain range.
    • The Fifth Holy Sword - Glutsylph: An elongated fan of blades that work like whip. He can swing this around him to shred any nearby monsters like a blender, complimenting its wind manipulation.
    • The Sixth Holy Sword - Lustnoir: The Holy Sword's sixth form, Lustnoir, takes the form of a spiraling lance that generates a whirlwind of black energy around it in a manner akin to a drill.
    • The Seventh Holy Sword - Solpride: An array of seven large blades, two for each hand and the other five controlled remotely, that are themed around light.
    • Additionally, Lowji eventually gains the ability to combine his swords into even more deadly combinations, such as:
      • Fifth + Second Holy Sword - Gludwrasylph: This sword can create a devastating fire tornado.
      • Fourth + Seventh Holy Sword - Slothsol Prignome: Seven enormous swords, each with the ability to weigh down whatever their tips touch.
      • Sixth + Third Holy Sword - Enlustvynoir: This blade summons a large drill made of black water.
      • Fifth + Sixth Holy Sword - Sylt Glutnoir: A blade capable of summoning a gigantic dark tornado.
      • Second + Fifth + Seventh Holy Sword - Soldrasly Prigluth: This summons six floating swords that Lowji’s can launch at high speeds like missiles.
  • Not Quite Flight: His immense strength lets him jump great distances through the air while he propels himself along with the flames from Dragwrath.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Chapter 9 starts with him not being mean to Red, but reveals that he was humbled and in awe of what happened when fighting Louluguat - he was able to see space and above the clouds. He thinks it's one of the most beautiful things that he's ever seen.
  • Parental Abandonment: Lowji was left by his unnamed family at an orphanage, where he was bullied relentlessly by the other children without any intervention from the orphanage's caretakers. He fled this abuse and scraped a living together for himself as an adventurer. Late in the story, Vidara reveals that Lowji is the youngest son of the Machvolt family, which saw his lack of mana as an ill omen and abandoned him while refusing to acknowledge his existence to save face. His older brother, Regulus, was outraged by this but was unable to stop it as a ten-year-old at the time.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Lowji has an astonishingly petty personality and feels entitled to be the only one Teltina can rely on to the expense of all else. His grudge against Red is entirely one-sided and he laughs when Red struggles even though it's detrimental to both of their goals. The way Teltina has to rein him in is compared to a mother scolding her child, and it's difficult to imagine him functioning properly in society without her. When Teltina realizes a Commonality Connection between her Red and smiles at him, Lowji is pushed over the edge and is willing to get Red killed and jeopardize the mission to liberate Akalina solely to get rid of what he thinks is a rival for Teltina's affections.
  • Rags to Riches: Two years ago, he was a lonely adventurer sleeping on the streets because of how ostracized he was for lacking any kind of magical power. After meeting Teltina and becoming the hero, he has since gained fame, wealth, and glory, but none of it matters to him compared to Teltina's companionship.
  • Really Royalty Reveal: Not quite royalty but in Chapter 41, it's revealed that he was born into the Machvolt Family, making him a noble by birth. However, his father gave him away to Mist Orphanage not long after his birth upon learning that he had no mana.
  • Red Baron: "The Demon Swordsman" for his monstrous strength and no-nonsense approach to fighting.
  • Rocket-Powered Weapon: The Holy Sword's second form, Dragwrath, includes a rocket booster in the back that engulfs the sword with fire and propels it with destructive force.
  • Shipper on Deck: Lowji, of all people, supports Red and Yihdra getting together, telling Red to "take responsibility" after Red put a band-aid around Yihdra's pricked ring finger while suggesting that any kind of ring-shaped object could be construed as a proposal ring. He also tells Poseidon about the bandage Red put around Yihdra's ring finger, prompting yet another Freudian Threat from the butler.
  • Shout-Out: Possessed by a Giant Lanars, and wears full armor while going giant brings in mind of a mix between Magna Defenders and Ultraman.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Lowji is obsessed with Princess Teltina and only has eyes for her, going onto say that it doesn't matter if everyone hates him so long as he has her love. To has chagrin, she seems to cherish him as a dear friend and bodyguard more than anything, and she quickly strikes up a friendship with Red. This gets Played for Drama when it's revealed that he was ostracized his entire life until Teltina convinced him to become the hero with the promise of ending his loneliness by accepting him when no one else would.
  • Smug Super: He's well-aware of how strong he is and is proud of it, looking down upon all others while insisting that the only one Teltina needs to rely on is him.
  • Strong and Skilled: Even before becoming the Hero, Lowji had garnered a significant amount of renown for his skill with a sword as a Badass Normal. This reputation of his is what drew Teltina's attention and had her seek him out.
  • Superior Successor: Twofold. The person who created the Royal Holy Sword informs Lowji that it was never designed with the ability to combine its separate forms to create powerful Combination Attacks. Because of this, Lowji has thus surpassed the abilities of its original wielder by creating entirely new abilities for the weapon. Not only that, but Lowji's bonds with his allies and the children of Stella Orphanage let him develop a Big Bond Soul akin to Red's, something that Lowji was never able to accomplish in his previous life as the Break-Up King.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: While he never stops being more than a Jerk with a Heart of Gold, Lowji's ability to tolerate others and look beyond his fixation on impressing Teltina grows over the course of the story. He goes from hating Red's guts and wanting to murder him to reluctantly acknowledging him, Yihdra, and Raniya as trusted allies. He even goes so far as to risk his life for Red on several occasions. Lowji also learns to care for others after meeting the children at Stella Orphanage who admire him, encouraging him to act on his pride as a hero and meet the expectations of those relying on him.
  • Tsundere:
    • Lampshaded. When Lowji finally develops enough of a bond with Red to board the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser, Lowji continues to insist that they do not have a bond. Meanwhile, Teltina asks why he's being so "tsun tsun" to Red, and he takes command of the Kaiser's sword as "thanks for the view". Red also says that he doesn't hate Lowji's stubbornness. Even after he saves Red's life by shoving him out of the way of Abudabi's lethal attack, Lowji refuses to call it anything but "a whim of mine".
    • Later on, Lowji refuses to follow up on Red's request to stop him from rampaging as Kizuna Black by killing him, screaming "Who'd take orders from you!?" before ripping the Black Bond Plate out to revert Red's transformation and save his life.
  • Twinkle in the Sky: Lowji is the victim of this after getting hit with the wind from the Kizuna Kaiser's Great Bond Sword, landing in a forest far away enough that Red has to use his mech to fly over.
  • Undying Loyalty: He will do anything for Teltina and is so loyal that he can't imagine entrusting her to anyone else.
  • Un-Sorcerer: Lowji is the first person in a thousand years to be born without magic of any kind. Because of this, he was ridiculed and ostracized his whole life prior to becoming the hero. Red's arrival turns him into a Green-Eyed Monster, because his lack of magical power is what makes him unique, leading to Lowji's fear that Red would replace him as Teltina's hero.
  • The Worf Effect: The monster Red struggles against and has to pull out to Victory Kizuna Buster to defeat is effortlessly beaten by Lowji Mist to demonstrate how powerful he is. But Lowji starts to struggle just as much as Red as the threat level grows, even getting the Distressed Dude treatment to emphasize how dangerous and esoteric the Mana Seeds are.
  • World's Strongest Man: Lowji Mist a former S-Rank Adventurer who retired to become the bodyguard of Princess Teltina. He's the strongest swordsman in the world and wields the sword that once used by the hero to seal away the demon king. Red compares him to the Break-Up King's top brass, only even stronger, resorting to using the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser to defeat him.
  • Yandere: Lowji is crazily possessive of Teltina and threatens anyone who gets close to her with the threat of death under the pretense of guarding her. Even with an important mission to rescue an entire city and Teltina's own personal request for him to put aside his grudges and work with Red, Lowji's feelings of jealousy make him try to indirectly murder Red by stealing his Bond Plate so he can't transform and use his full power.
Lowji: How dare he act so friendly with Lady Teltina. I've never seen her smile like that before. Lady Teltina, I'm the only one you need to rely on for protection. Just who does he think he is? I'm the only hero you need.
  • You Remind Me of X: Lowji is initially dismissive of the children of Stella Orphanage when they pester him to teach them some of his swordsmanship, telling them to go play with someone else. But when Max insists that he wants to become stronger so he can be Stella's hero, Lowji has a flashback to when Teltina asked him to be her hero. This leads him to take a shine to the kids and spend some time teaching them earnestly.

    Raniya / Amen

Raniya / Amen (VII)

Voiced by: Haruka Shiraishi (Japanese), Marwa Elda (English)

Click here to see her as Amen

The guardian of the Sun Forest where the ancient elves live. She possesses a Transformation Trinket similar to Red's, allowing her to become the Guardian of the Sun Forest, Amen.

Tropes as Raniya

  • Action Girl: Her array of powers and gadgets makes her a match for Lowji, albeit while he's trying to shield Teltina from Raniya's and the other elves' attacks.
  • Beneath the Mask: After loudly talking down to Lowji and battling him with reckless fervor, the heroes are surprised to see that she is in fact a shy and nice girl who is surprisingly cute. She admits that the Hot-Blooded, human-hating persona she showed earlier was a mask designed to cover up her own shyness and lack of confidence.
  • Broken Pedestal: Raniya is dismayed to learn from the Great Elder that the original Amen was a skirt-chaser who constantly flirted and fooled around. It's quickly rebuilt when the Great Elder goes on to explain how he saved the Sun Elves with his magical know-how and planted the Sun Forest after the original woodlands was reduced to sand, continuing to aid the Sun Elves until the day he died and never finding a way home.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: With Azir. It’s implied that their relationship had become intimate at the end of Sun Village arc. When she was asked if she was “Patching Up” (using the same censorship method the series uses to censor sexual comments) with him, she answered with “more or less.”
  • Disappeared Dad: Raniya's father Ravan passed away years prior to the story, leaving Raniya to become the Sun Elves' new chief and his successor as Amen. This causes her a great deal of angst, as she feels she can't live up to his example as a warrior or a confident leader. She later learns that he was poisoned to death while trying to rescue Teltina from a Privilege Magic user along with Yihdra's father Haodie and Teltina's brother Alteo. Although Raniya is shocked at the news, she ultimately empathizes with Teltina rather than condemning her, as her own flighty behavior at the start of the story is not that different from Teltina's impulsive decision to stowaway on a carriage that day.
  • Everyone Can See It: It's blatantly obvious to everyone that she has feelings for Azir. Once she has sense beaten into him, the two of them are often holding hands and running off to chat together when Raniya should be training.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Raniya a direct descendant of the original Amen, making her part human at the bare minimum, and a human from another world, no less.
  • Henshin Hero: Like Red, she has a Transformation Trinket that allows her to transform into a costumed hero. Compared to Red's Sentai-themed powers, Raniya's are themed after Kamen Rider with a Diving Kick finisher attack. The anime takes it further by having her device voiced by Mark Okita, who voiced the DecaDriver.
  • Heroic Lineage: Raniya is a descendant of the original Amen, a human Henshin Hero from another world. As the latest to hold the name Amen, Raniya struggles to live up to her forebears' legacy and is harsh on herself because of it.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: She talks down to humans when it's time to fight, but in reality it's just a mask she puts on to hide her own insecurities. In truth, none of the elves have any particular prejudice against humans, but she believes she needs to be intimidating as the guardian of the Sun Forest.
  • Lazy Bum: She'd be much more powerful if she weren't so averse to the Great Elder's Training from Hell. Though she tries to deny it, Raniya often prefers to nap or run off with Azir than train. When the Great Elder wakes up from her slumber, she decides to personally oversee Raniya's training to get her into fighting shape. Just a few hours of this training is enough to render her near-catatonic. When Azir steals the Amen Bagckle from her, his stats as Amen are all superior to hers simply because he took his personal development more seriously.
  • Legacy Character: The original Amen was a hero from another world who traveled with the hero who sealed away the Demon Queen a thousand years ago. Raniya is the seventh Amen and the next chieftain of her village.
  • Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: A desert elf who turns into an Ancient Egyptian-themed Kamen Rider-Expy. Yeah, she counts.
  • Out of Focus: Despite returning to the party in time for the Demi-Human Federation arc, she doesn't particularly do anything of particular note there, even her assigned role to act as an ambassador on the party's behalf to rally the Demi-Human leaders to their side is fulfilled by Yolte and Teltina. This is deconstructed in the final arc, as it's revealed her lack of meaningful contributions as well as her belief that she's a Sucksessor causes her immense inner turmoil.
  • Pointy Ears: Being an elf, her ears are long and pointy.
  • Professional Voice Dissonance: Raniya speaks in a low, husky voice and flings constant insults at her foes in an effort to be authoritative and intimidating while acting as Amen. Outside of that, she has a girly and demure voice that the rest of the main cast finds unrecognizable from her Amen voice.
  • Reluctant Warrior: Raniya's tendency to slack off on her training is because she's afraid of fighting and her belief that she's incapable of becoming the warrior and leader that her father Ravan was. Even her offer to join Red's party on their quest was partially motivated by a desire to see the outside world and escape her duties for a while. Despite this, she still charges into battle on behalf of her friends and her people as Amen.
  • Sucksessor: Raniya feels this way about herself, as she could never acclimate herself to the training required to become a powerful Amen like the ones before her. Her father also died before he was able to tutor her to succeed him, resulting in her only having the Great Elder to train her. Because of this, she acknowledges that she's possibly the weakest Amen in history, but still does her best to fulfill her duties to her people and make her predecessors proud.
  • Yellow/Purple Contrast: Her blonde hair and gold accessories and trimmings are the yellow while the majority of her clothes are in shades of purple.

Tropes as Amen

  • Badass Biker: Her powers come with the ability to summon a motorcycle to help her get around.
  • Beam Spam: Her Finishing Move in Medjed Relief. Works best after using the Falcon Relief Glyph in the Ankh Symbolizer to do a Missile Lock-On on her targets to get them all in one attack.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: Announces her transformation with the phrase "Taitenshin!" (roughly "Worldly Incarnation", officially translated as "Vessel of God"), which of course rhymes with "Henshin".
  • Combat Stilettos: The anime version of the female Amen suit gives Raniya slightly higher heels as opposed to the manga where the heels are more level to the rest of the soles.
  • Cool Bike: As per Kamen Rider tradition, Raniya is able to summon a (camel-themed) motorcycle to get around both in and when not in combat. Combined with the other Badges it can fly and can go over the water.
  • Eternal English: To really sell the Toyetic look, the Amen gear and gimmick items are labeled in all caps English despite supposedly being artifacts from Ancient Egypt. This can be justifiably handwaved because it is the Latin alphabet and Ancient Egypt was once a trading partner and eventually part of Ancient Rome which used the alphabet. The gear speaking in English can also be justifiably handwaved because the Roman Empire included parts of Great Britain and parts of ancient Germania, this is because the English language is part of the Germanic language family.
  • Feather Flechettes: Her Falcon Relief (based on Horus) allows her to fly with a pair of wings attached to her arms as well as fling feathers as deadly projectiles.
  • Finishing Move: Has several depending on the Relief form.
    • Sphinx: Spirit Coffin; Creates a pyramid with the point towards the target and does a Diving Kick to drive it towards them.
    • Scarab: Scarlet Rampage; Creates Fireballs and throws them at the target.
    • Falcon: Combat Blaze; Fires Feather Flechettes from the wings to attack the target.
    • Camel: Dirt Crack; Spikes forms on the front wheel of the motorcycle and grinds the target.
    • Jackal: Jack the Loop; Gives Super-Speed that creates Speed Echoes.
    • Crocodile: Closed Dyne; After vising the enemy in the crocodile head on the right arm, the user jumps and slams the head on the ground as if close lining.
    • Pharaoh: Phalanx Overload; Creates multiple pyramids and with a single diving kick, drives them towards the target.
    • Medjed: Menace the End; Fires a barrage of lasers from the sky.
    • Cobra: Bloody Corruption; Binds the enemy with the Cobra arm and sprays poison on them.
    • Scorpion: Period Squall; Rapidly strikes enemies with the stinger.
    • Cursed Obelisk: Creates 9 obelisks with bas reliefs of the Badges used and copies of the forms and the Camel Dirtbike come out and do their finishing moves on the target before the main body does a diving kick at the end.
  • Fragile Speedster: The Jackal Relief grants Amen incredible speed, letting Raniya run circles around most opponents and Speed Blitz them with a flurry of attacks. But this form lacks raw power compared to her other transformations, meaning a sufficiently tough opponent who can take everything she doles out can potentially outlast her if she doesn't change forms.
  • Gendered Outfit: The Amen suit changes depending on the gender of user. For female users like Raniya, the upper chest area gives more space to emphasize the breasts. The anime also gives her Combat Stilettos.
  • Lightning Bruiser: As Amen, Raniya is strong and fast enough to match Lowji blow-for-blow (albeit while he's trying to keep Teltina out of harm's way). She can further increase her strength and speed with her various forms.
  • Multiform Balance: Has multiple forms depending on the Relief Glyph.
    • Sphinx: The base form.
    • Scarab: Based on Khepri; throws Fireballs.
    • Falcon: Based on Horus; forelimbs become wings and gives flight and Feather Flechettes.
    • Jackal: Based on Anubis; gives Super-Speed.
    • Crocodile: Based on Sobek; turns the right arm into a crocodile head vise.
    • Pharaoh: Presumably the Super Mode that is a stronger form of the base Sphinx form.
    • Medjed: Based on the Medjed; a Mini-Mecha form with some flight, limited melee capabilities (ramming) but has the highest firepower by creating eye symbols in the sky and shoots lasers from them.
    • Cobra: Possibly based on either Meretseger or the Wadjet; turns the left arm into an extendable arm that can wrap around the opponent to bind and spray poison on them.
    • Scorpion: Possibly based on Serket; gives a scorpion tail.
    • Chaos Scale: An attachment to the Amen Buckle that is first used by Raniya possibly based on Apep; using the Sphinx, Scarab, Falcon, Jackal, Camel, Crocodile, Medjed, Cobra and Scorpion Badges combined creates the Amen Facodilal form that has all the powers of the 9 Badges.
  • The Power of the Sun: Her transformed state is named after a god often combined with the Egyptian god of the sun and she can throw a fireball shaped like a miniature sun at her opponents. She's also the guardian of the Sun Forest where the elves reside.
  • Punny Name: Her powers make her a {K}Amen Rider.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: Her transformed state is known as the Guardian of the Sun, Amen. Amen was the Patron God of Thebes in Ancient Egypt and was often syncretized with the god of the sun, Ra as "Amun-Ra". This is reflected in Raniya's Egyptian-themed powers and the ability to create a miniature sun as an attack.
  • Shout-Out: Her powers, using medals in her Amen Buckle, most resemble Kamen Rider OOO's use of Core Medals. The anime adds a second shout-out with the Amen Buckle using the distinctive voice. including the stutter, of the DecaDriver.
  • Superhero Speciation: Discussed. Amen's powers make Raniya comparable to Red and Lowji in strength and speed, but she does not have a Humongous Mecha like the Kizuna Five. Lowji asks where her giant golem is while clashing with her over a misunderstanding in the Sun Forest, but Raniya is confused as to why he thinks she'd have such a thing. Amen instead has numerous additional forms Raniya can access to gain additional powers, such as the Falcon form allowing her to fly with giant bird wings.
  • Swiss-Army Weapon: The Ankh Symbolizer has 3 known forms; a sword for melee combat, a gun for ranged combat and a rod form to use the more esoteric powers of the Transformation Trinkets.
  • Transformation Trinket: Her satchel holds the Amen Buckle and Relief Glyphs she uses to transform and access her additional forms.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Her poor performance against Azir was mainly due to her being out of shape from slacking off from her training.

Kizuna Beasts

    Maximum Kizuna Kaiser
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maximium_kizuna_kaiser.png

The combination of the five primary Kizuna Beasts through the power of Bond Merger, this mighty mecha serves as the Kizuna Five's trump card. Despite being stranded in a new world, Red is still capable of summoning them at will.

  • Adaptational Curves: Inverted. The manga version of Kizuna Kaiser has round and curvier body shape. The anime version's body is more rigid and blocky to sell its toy-like look similar to most Super Sentai's Combining Mecha.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: While the Kizuna Kaiser's immense size and destructive power make it a mighty weapon, those qualities also makes it borderline useless unless Red is facing an enemy of similar scale in a large, open space where collateral damage isn't an issue.
  • BFS: The Great Bond Sword is an enormous blade the size of an office building to be equipped by the equally large Maximum Kizuna Kaiser. It possesses incredible cutting power and can cleave straight through masses large enough to flatten cities with a single swing.
  • Chest Blaster: The Maximum Kizuna Blaster, which fires an enormous beam from the Frien-D's mouth on the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser's chest. Its first usage in Chapter 1 completely vaporizes the upper body of the dragon it hits and its range is so long that it can be seen by onlookers a huge distance away from the battlefield. He later proposes using it to vaporize Louluguat's mansion, but Yihdra and Teltina point out that the resulting explosion would wipe out Akalina along with it.
  • Combining Mecha: In typical Sentai fashion, it is the combination of the five Kizuna Beasts: Frien-D (Red), Trustorm (Blue), Promistriker (Yellow), Unikong (Green), and Lovemarriner (Pink).
  • Crippling Overspecialization: As Yihdra notes early on, Kizuna Kaiser's size, bulk, and slow speed only make it useful when out in the open against an enemy of a similiar size.
  • Fell Into The Cockpit: Deconstructed. The only requirement to enter the cockpit is to have a bond of friendship with a member of the Kizuna Five. As a result, Yihdra, Teltina, Lowji, and Raniya get transported into it when the Kizuna Beasts are summoned throughout the story. But none of them are any help in controlling the Kizuna Kaiser due to having no training or frame of reference in piloting a vehicle meant for five experienced drivers. This forces Red to handle all the movements himself, resulting in them being thrown around the cockpit during hectic fights.
  • Golden Super Mode: The anime version of the attempt to reconstruct Azir has the mecha turn into Golden Kizuna Kaiser.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Its signature weapon is the Great Bond Sword.
  • Humongous Mecha: The Maximum Kizuna Kaiser is designed to fight Kaiju after a Make My Monster Grow sequence. As such, it is enormous compared to most things in Yihdra's world, towering over buildings and potentially flattening them if it stomps around too much. This size grants it enormous strength, enough to push masses larger than entire cities into space if needed, but also makes it incredibly clunky to use against smaller opponents.
  • Magic Staff: The Hopeful Kizuna Scepter, made from the bond between Red and Yihdra. It converts Bond Energy into mana letting Yihdra use it for magic spells.
  • Motion-Capture Mecha: Downplayed. The Kaiser is controlled by five standing consoles normally, but when using the Great Bond Sword, a pilot can wield a replica blade so the mecha will mimic their finer motions.
  • Mundane Utility: Red is capable of summoning the individual Beasts as means of transportation, such as when he rode on Trustorm to chase after Yihdra as she was flying away in frustration due to her believing that Red had given up on her dream. Or when he used Lovemarriner to pull the ship his team was using to flee the country. The Kizuna Kaiser's enormous size also makes it a surprisingly good tool for construction purposes, helping to rebuild Stella Orphanage inside of a day after the building was destroyed by Elmario.
  • Spin Attack: The Maximum Kizuna Tornado attack has the Kaiser spin rapidly with the Great Bond Sword drawn, generating a tornado in the process. Red tries to use this against Azir when the latter is transformed into an enormous sandstorm. Unfortunately, the attack has no effect besides making the rest of the Kaiser's pilots dizzy and nauseous.
  • Swords Set To Stun: The Maximum Kizuna Blaster is the Kizuna Kaiser's ultimate weapon and is capable of vaporizing Kaiju-sized opponents. But when Kiyohiro is transformed into Bondkiller and subject to the Make My Monster Grow sequence, the Kizuna Five fire a "reconciliatory" Maximum Kizuna Blaster that doesn't turn him to dust and instead reverts him to normal so he and Red can make up.

    Elefandam
An auxiliary Kizuna Beast capable of using Heavily Injured Merger with Kizuna Kaiser to form Ginganjured General.

    The Silver Beast
The Kizuna Beast belonging to Kizuna Silver, it has the ability to merge with Kizuna Kaiser to gain even greater power.
  • The Ghost: It has yet to make a physical appearance as unlike the other Kizuna Beasts, Red is unable to summon it without Silver, who is deceased.
  • King of Beasts: It resembles a lion.

    Kizuna Elements (Unmarked Spoilers)
An entirely new set of Kizuna Beasts created by the Elemental Bond Plate, which formed from Yihdra's own Big Bond Soul. They're able to perform Spirit Merger with Kizuna Kaiser to form the Elemental Kizuna Master.
  • Ability Mixing: They can be combined into one weapon in order to fire the Vortex Kizuna Magia, a drill-shaped fusion of all of their different elements.
  • Elemental Powers: They all represent magical elements:
  • Mecha Expansion Pack: The Kizuna Elements serve as this to the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser as a set of equipment that grants it new, magical abilities created by Yihdra's burgeoning Big Bond Soul and her love for Red.
  • Mini-Mecha: Yihdra, as Kizuna Magus, can summon tiny variants of them to support her in battle. While they are much weaker than the full-size versions, they avert the Kizuna Beasts typical problem of being too big to be of any actual use in most circumstances.
  • Shout-Out Theme Naming: The elemental spirits of the otherworld appear to be named as a mishmash of their equivalents from the Tales and Mana games. Ifrit and Celsius from Tales, Sylphid and Wisp from Mana, and the other three used by both series.
  • The Worf Effect: Despite its impressive debut, the Domad destroys the Kizuna Master in one blow in order to demonstrate just how powerful he is, especially with the Demon Queen's seal nearly broken.
