As the name says, St. Rudolph is a Catholic school. It's also a Boarding School, and though its tennis team has only been around for five years, it's extremely powerful and well known. Five of the regulars are transfer students; they belong to a "Reinforcement" program that emphasizes on their training regiment and provides them with flexibility on their academics. Despite not being the captain, third-year student and team manager/coach Hajime Mizuki is pretty much the biggest authority in the group.

Voiced by: Akira Ishida (JP), Steve Staley (EN), Jesús Nunes (LA SP, Episodes 28-40), Ricardo Sorondo (LA SP, Episode 70)

Hajime Mizuki is the manager of the team who transfers from another school. He scouts talented players from around the country to join the tennis team in hopes of creating an elite team. He observes other team's and their tendencies, allowing him to not only pick out the opposing player's weak points, but to anticipate the team's line up and predict the ending scores. Mizuki is also shown to be very ruthless, teaching Fuji Yuuta the Twist Spin Shot, despite the fact that it could cause severe damage to Yuta's underdeveloped arm. His arrogance also comes back to bite him when he believes that he has collected all the data on Fuji Shuusuke, only to be humiliated by him.

  • Break the Haughty: The entire match against Seigaku was this for him. On top of this, there's also his match against Fuji.
  • Camp Straight: Has a lot of mannerisms, and also showed to have a crush on Yuuta's older sister.
  • Character Tics: He has the habit of twirling his hair, which also is a sign to his status as Dastardly Whiplash.
  • Dragon-in-Chief: Even though Akazawa is the captain, Mizuki is the one who makes all the important decisions on the team, including training, formations and even scoop outs.
  • Foil: He and Inui are both data specialists, but whereas Inui learned that it isn't everything, Mizuki arrogantly believes that anyone can be beaten with it.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Right after he gets beaten, he is less of a jerk to Yuuta.
  • Humble Pie: Not only does his strategy for the match against Seigaku fails, but Fuji also humiliates him by letting him win 5 games, and then turns the table and squashes him by winning 7 straight games.
  • Kick the Dog: His treatment of Yuuta.
  • The Smart Guy: He collects data on stronger rivals and is in charge of managing St. Rudolph's team. That's why he is assigned to be roommates with Inui, Yanagi and Chitose in the U-17 camp.
  • Smug Snake: He doesn't care if Yuuta injures himself, as long as they win.
  • The Strategist: Like Inui, Mizuki also bases his game in data from the oponents, designing the game alignments and how to counter.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: After the tournament, he decides to train Yuuta properly. In the anime, he also seems to consider Fuji a friendly rival when he goes up against Rikkaidai.

    Yuuta Fuji

Voiced by: Makoto Tomita (JP), Noriko Namiki (JP, as a child), Tom Gibis (EN), Jesús Rondón (LA SP, Episodes 29-36), José Granadillo (LA SP, Episodes 60-71)
Portrayed by: KENN (2004-2011), Seiya Konishi (2011-2016), Kaiki Ohara (2016-2020)

Yuuta Fuji is the younger brother of Fuji Shuusuke who constantly overshadows him. Originally a student at Seigaku, he declines to join the tennis team and is eventually scouted by Mizuki. He hits at difficult angles for left-handed players, causing him to be known as the "Lefty-Killer." He uses the Rising Shot, which hits the ball on the rise, giving the opponents less time to react. Mizuki teaches him the Twist Spin Shot, which puts a topspin on the ball, causing it to bounce upwards, though it puts a heavy strain on undeveloped shoulders.

  • Accidental Misnaming: He gets very annoyed whenever people calls him "Fuji's younger brother".
  • Afraid of Needles: According to one of the fanbooks.
  • Always Someone Better: The reason why he changed schools was so he could try and beat his brother in a match.
  • Berserk Button: Never call him "Fuji's brother" or any other variation.
  • Big Little Brother: Yuuta is slightly taller than Shuusuke and has a deeper voice. He is still more insecure and defensive than Shuusuke, who is constantly looking out for him.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: A milder version of this. He is more temperamental than Shuusuke and resents that people often compare them, but still respects his brother a lot.
  • Red Baron: "The Lefty Killer." Due to left-handedness being rarer than right-handedness, most left-handed tennis players aren't used to playing a left-handed opponent, which Yuuta learned to exploit.
  • Signature Move: "Twist Spin Shot" and "Rising Shot".
  • Southpaw Advantage: His specialty is decimating left-handed players, because he's also left-handed and most left-handed players are used to only facing right-handed opponents.
  • Sweet Tooth: According to the fanbook, he likes sweets a lot, especially the ones baked by his older sister Yumiko.
  • Tsundere: Towards his brother. He has a hard time showing his affection for Shuusuke like he used to do whyen they were little.
  • The Unfavorite: A big part of his Character Development is his feelings of inadequacy and jealousy of his older brother Shuusuke, and learning how to handle them as well as to understand Shuusuke's point of view. In reality, his older siblings love him a lot, but the inferiority complex comes from being compared to his brother by outsiders.
  • The Worf Effect: He was one of Ryoma's first opponents and gave him a reasonably tough time. Hyotei's Jirou manages to defeat him in 15 minutes.

    Yoshirou Akazawa

Voiced by: Masami Iwasaki (JP), Héctor Indriago (LA SP)

Yoshirou Akazawa is known to be a powerful and talented singles player. Despite being St. Rudolph's team captain, he does not exert a lot of influence over the team and usually leaves the decision making skills to the team's manager, Mizuki.

  • Ambiguously Brown: It's never stated if he is of mixed race (as Jackal Kuwahara) or that he is just incredibly tanned, compared to his teammates.
  • The Captain: Although Mizuki is the one who makes all the decisions in the team.
  • Curtains Match the Window: His hair is dark brown, and so are his eyes.
  • Supporting Leader: Despite being the team captain, he lets Mizuki have all the strategic control of the team. He only serves as the commanding authority figure.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: He loves curry.

    Ichirou Kaneda
Voiced by: Yoshihisa Kawahara (JP), Joshua Seth (EN), Ezequiel Serrano (LA SP)

Ichirou Kaneda is a regular in the St. Rudolph Team. Of the current regulars, Kaneda and his captain Akazawa Yoshirou are the only original St. Rudolph students.

    Atsushi Kisarazu

Voiced by: Satoshi Tsuruoka (JP), Peter Doyle (EN), Rolman Bastidas (LA SP)

Atsushi Kisarazu is the twin brother of Rokkaku's Ryou. Mizuki mistakenly scouts Atsushi instead of his brother, so he forces Atsushi to distinguish himself by cutting his hair and wearing a headband.

  • Hachi Maki: He has to wear the bandana on Mizuki's orders.
  • Identical Twin ID Tag: Justified. Mizuki mistakenly recruited him instead of his twin brother Ryou. Once he realized the confusion, Mizuki made Atsushi cut his hair and wear a bandana.
  • Important Haircut: Mizuki made him to cut his hair, to not remind himself that he confused him with Ryou.
  • Signature Move: "Feint Drop Volley".

    Shinya Yanagisawa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pot_yanagisawa_3940.jpg
Voiced by: Norihisa Mori (JP), Darrel Guilbeau (EN), Kaihiamal Martínez (LA SP, Episodes 29-31), Ledner Belisario (LA SP, Episodes 60-71)

  • Animal Motifs: His face looks as a duck, and many more refer him as such.
  • The Chew Toy: His Verbal Tic is so annoying that he is often told to shut up by other characters. He also has the bad luck of getting knocked out cold by a ball shot by Momoshiro, automatically losing the game.
  • Verbal Tic: "-dane". Lampshaded by Momo and Kaidoh, who got so annoyed once that they openly told him "STOP SAYING -DANE!"

    Takuya Nomura
Voiced by: Takayuki Kondō (JP), Kaihiamal Martínez (LA SP)

  • The Short Guy with Glasses: His only characteristic.
  • The Unfought: Justified. Despite not being the best player of the team, Mizuki put him on Singles 1 against Tezuka, because he thought that there was no need to rely on that victory if the other games were won instantly.
