The Lion King: Six New Adventures
Characters introduced in the Six New Adventures series of books. Kopa
The son of Simba and Nala.
- Adapted Out: As the films supersede the books in terms of canon status, The Lion King 2 overrules the existence of Kopa by having Kiara be Simba and Nala's first cub and the cub seen at the end of the first film, with The Lion Guard overruling his existence further by establishing that there was a male cub that Simba and Nala had, but his name is Kion.
- Named by the Adaptation: He was a nameless cub in the first film.
- Strong Family Resemblance: He's a little replica of his dad as a cub.
- Tuft of Head Fur: He's older than Simba was as a cub, as seen by his mane already growing in.
Ahadi
The father of Mufasa and Scar.
- Meaningful Name: His name translates to "promise", fitting his regal nature.
- Parental Favoritism: Ahadi favored Mufasa due to his less self-centered attitude and more responsible nature.
- Strong Family Resemblance: Mufasa inherited Ahadi's golden coat and thick, full mane, while Scar got his mane color and eye color.
- Unreliable Illustrator: The text describes him as having eye and mane coloring like Scar while the artwork depicts him with Mufasa's mane and eye colors. Presumably the text is canon and the art is Off-Model.
Uru
Wife of King Ahadi, and mother of Mufasa and Scar.
- The High Queen: Her character isn't explored, but she seems a dutiful queen. In The Tale of Two Brothers, she went on a quest to find a water source to help animals during a drought and discovered a lake.
Chumvi
A childhood friend of Nala's during Scar's reign.
- Childhood Friends: He's a cubhood friend of Nala's.
- Fantastic Racism: Chumvi initially believes that lions are superior to other animals. He also likes making fun of other species.
- Nonstandard Character Design: He doesn't have dark ear rims like most other males.
- Remember the New Guy?: He's never seen in the original film or referenced anywhere else.
- Tuft of Head Fur: He has a messy tuft of fur on his head.
Kula
A childhood friend of Nala's during Scar's reign.
- Childhood Friends: She's a cubhood friend of Nala and Chumvi.
- Big Eater: She's always mentioning food or being hungry.
- Meaningful Name: Her name translates to "eat", reflecting her Big Eater status.
- Remember the New Guy?: She's never seen in the original film or referenced anywhere else.
Ni
A rogue who appears in the book "Nala's Dare".
- Furry Reminder: He was kicked out of his birth pride due to becoming an adult.
- Older Than They Look: He looks adolescent but is actually a smaller than average, somewhat scrawny adult. This could be explained by his rogue lifestyle, as he likely isn't getting as much to eat compared to when he lived within a pride.
Miscellaneous Books
Characters introduced in the various books based off of the films. Mohatu
Mufasa and Scar's grandfather. Widely known as one of the wisest kings ever to rule the Pride Lands.
- Furry Reminder: During a drought, Mohatu made a law regulating when and how animals can drink. He ruled that lions should be last because they can last longer without water than many of the other animals.
- Strong Family Resemblance: His grandson Mufasa takes after him the most. He, however, also has dark brown fur on his tail and elbows like Outsiders.
"The Selfish Lion"
- No Name Given: He's simply described as a selfish lion who drank too much water during a drought and wouldn't allow others to drink.
- Palette Swap: He looks like Scar but with a Pridelander nose and colors similar to Mohatu.
Comic Books and Magazines
Characters introduced in the various comic books and magazine stories based off of the films. The Great Spirit
The "God" of the Lion King universe. Initially mentioned in the early King of the Jungle drafts of the movie, before the comics were published.
- Animal Religion: Lions worship him. He is their God.
- The Man in the Moon: Concept art from early in the movie's production depicts him as a lion's face in the moon. At one point, Sarabi was supposed to sing a song about him to Simba.
Malka
A childhood friend of Simba's, and his former stepbrother.
- Beneath the Mask: He acts prideful and brave but actually gets afraid easily.
- KidAnova: He flirts with Nala.

Swifty
A cheetah cub who appears in the magazine story, "The Race".

Growler
A young warthog who appears in the magazine story "Pumbaa's New Friends". Jealous of the attention Pumbaa gets from his family, Growler plans to frame Pumbaa to drive the older warthog away.
- Frame-Up: He convinces the head of the warthog sounder that Pumbaa plans to take over, ensuring that Pumbaa will either be driven out or killed.
- Green-Eyed Monster: He resents Pumbaa for taking the family's attention away from him.
- Jerkass: Makes no bones about how much he despises Pumbaa. Pumaa
- Meaningful Name: A bad-tempered warthog who speaks rudely to Pumbaa.
