Touka's Party

    Touka Scott

Touka Scott

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/touka_visual_1.png
Voiced by: Wataru Katou (Japanese, original body), Shun'ichi Toki (Japanese, in Shion's body), Ricco Fajardo (English)
A small town farmer and trapper from the village of Cheza with a kink for naked knee-socks, Touka is forced into the hero Shion's body by the necromancer girl Anri after one of his traps unwittingly kills the hero. He reluctantly accepts taking the much necessary mantle and legacy of the hero. The son of a mercenary, Touka was raised in the now destroyed city of Elbania and moved alone to Cheza some time after its destruction by the demon waves.
  • Always Save the Girl: A trait shared with Shion. He too finds himself doing anything he can, no matter the cost, to save Anri's life and to let her just live her life in peace. This behavior extends toward the other women around him as well.
  • Chick Magnet: Milly and Ethel both expressed some interest in him before gaining Shion's body. Despite functionally being a zombie the better aspects of his personality win over Yuna, Anri, and Margaret while his more villainous tendencies, oddly reinterpreted as benevolence and generosity, won over Diana.
  • Character Development: He never stops being a huge pervert but Touka does grow to become sincere in his heroic aspirations and greater goals, as such the sword does begin to naturally accept him as the legitimate successor. In the end his true reward isn’t earning a harem of girls with knee socks or anything of sorts, Touka actually doesn’t honestly believe Yuna grew to love him to boot, his endgoal is the sincere and heroic wish to give Anri and the Necromancer race a place to live among others without animosity and the Mana problem; the series’ ending accomplished exactly that.
  • Combat Pragmatist:
    • Touka's most important tenet when it comes to battle is to always have the much maligned resource of fleeing readily available. A battle one can run from is a battle best fought under better circumstances later.
    • Second comes another maligned resource: cheating. Chivalry is for those who fight on even terms, so if one's outmatched, one can use anything available to disable the opponent, no matter how dishonest or basest.
    • Third comes his most effective tactic: render one's opponent emotionally unwilling to fight. How? Mess with their minds, their morals, their social stature, and if the opponent is a girl, put her in naked kneesocks.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: As a child he would spend days hiding out in the woods to avoid beatings from his father. Some years later his father dragged both his wife and Touka off to loot battlefields which lead to her dying and Touka spending over a year trying to find a way home while the man himself simply disappeared.
  • Determinator: Touka went to hell and back just to see Yuna again.
  • Fetish: What really turns him on is seeing girls' thighs, especially if they wear kneesocks. He even attempts to put kneesocks on radishes that look like thighs.
  • Good Eyes, Evil Eyes: Played for laughs. Every time Touka possesses a human body, the body's eyes switch from tareme to tsurime, with small pupils and a devious look. This is his main distinguishing feature.
  • Guile Hero: Touka is not gifted magically, nor does he have much in the way of combat training. What he does have is an excellent mastery of trap creation, knowledge of how to manipulate people by appealing to baser desires, and the audacity to exploit Shion's popularity to swing things in his favor.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: It's been hinted at times that Touka doesn't really care much about what happens to his own life, as long as everyone else can be happy. Case in point, his reaction to knowing that his soul had around 10 years left note  thanks to summoning Shion? He gives an "Oh well, shit happens" kind of answer.note
  • Hidden Depths: Touka is tremendously kind, even beyond his means. Many of the things he accomplishes are done by the fact that he doesn't give a shit about his own reputation, which on his own way, goes beyond mere heroism. His is an example showing that doing the right thing is not the same as doing the "heroic" thing.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Despite him being in love with her, Touka's more than OK with Yuna going after Shion, as long as she's happy.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Touka is a lazy, crude, and highly perverse young man and makes no effort to hide any of it unless his life is on the line. That said he genuinely cares for the women around him. Doing anything to harm them is the quickest way to motivate him to utterly destroy and humiliate you as Leland, Diego, and Diana learn the hard way. Even before any of his development he quickly tries to save Yuna's life from a demon, first by trying to quickly lure it into a trap and once that fails by trying to attack it with a hoe.
Touka: "I'm always doing things in the spur of the moment like an idiot, and I think I am also a piece of shit for hurting you with my idiotic decisions. However I'm not as rotten as to abandon a kindhearted person like you."
  • Kidnapped by the Call: Shion's accidental death to one of Touka's traps was enough to convince Anri that that is what Shion meant by whoever could kill the hero is worthy of being the hero, leading her to force Touka's soul into his body and blackmail him with the threat of death to continue Shion's mission.
  • Legally Dead: Played for laughs. Because neither he nor Yuna told anyone at Cheza they left to adventure, the villagers assumed that they killed themselves out of the guilt of having killed Shion, so they demolished their neighboring houses and planted a field of radishes in their honor and remembrance.
  • Magnetic Hero: Despite his negative traits, he has a knack for gaining the allegiance of others, even former enemies.
  • Man, I Feel Like a Woman: Predictably the first thing Touka does when placed in Yuna's body is check out her thighs. Trying to use taking a bath as an excuse backfires as Anri and Margaret blindfold him and wash her body so he can't do this. He does enjoy the sensation of being scrubbed down in a woman's body while blindfolded though.
  • Oblivious to Love: Justified with Yuna, at least. The fact that she's rejected him so many times as well as constantly comparing him to Shion killed any expectations of him thinking that she would fall for him, which comes back to bite her when she does.
  • Orphan's Ordeal: Touka became orphaned during the war between the Kingdoms of Farom and Allard a year before the opening of the hell gate because his father wanted to become a war profiteer, during which he made it back alive by the skin of his teeth. He became a master trapper in the mean time under Ethel's tutelage, and only made it back alive out of his desire to see Yuna once again.
  • The Real Heroes: Shion tells Milly that he only made it in time to Elbania to rescue them from the demon army because someone had laid traps all over the town's surrounding area, considerably hindering the demon army's mobility. Milly later adds two and two together, recognizing the trappers as Touka and Ethel.
  • Selective Obliviousness: Near the end of the series Yuna really did a number Touka’s observation of how close they could ever possibly be, but of course his years of bad perverted behavior didn’t help either. When Yuna finally confessed she loved Touka the guy’s brain administered infinite doses of denial so he can’t possibly comprehend her confession as meaning what she is telling him; Touka takes it as appreciating a friend, a fellow warrior, etc. Yuna is baffled by this response so she tries to reiterate several times how she literally loves him as a lover would, but it doesn’t work; admitting she sorta didn’t help with how much she pushed Touka away before, Yuna doesn’t push further at that moment, wishing Touka eventually gets what she means someday.
  • Signature Move: "Naked Kneesocks Dash", in which he uses his lust to give him superhuman strength and speed to destroy the enemy's clothing and place kneesocks on their bare body.
  • Summon Magic: As long as he finds a way to reach a mana level of at least six, and has his original body present, he's able to summon Shion's soul from the Realm of the Holy Sword to assist him in battle.
  • Took a Level in Badass: At the start of the story Touka's mana level is only one, equal to a normal baby. After some training he's reaches level three, which is sufficient enough to maintain his regeneration and some control over the Holy Sword. After the battles at Hell's Gate eventually force Touka back to his own body, it's revealed that the war goddess, Famria, temporarily raised his mana level has to ten, the absolute highest a human can naturally reach. While it returned to normal after the battle against Larkvlad, his training between the epilogue and Land of the Gods allowed him to reach Mana Level 8 on his own strength.
  • Trap Master: Touka specializes in creating traps, and is especially fond of pitfall types. He was trained in how to make them by Ethel.
  • Unwanted Harem: As the series moves along, it starts to become clear that Touka's companions are made up of a plethora of girls who've shown interest in him. Yuna and Margaret are the clear front-runners, especially since both give him a Love Confession way down the line, while other potential members of the harem include Anri, Milly, Ethel, and Diana.
  • Voices Are Not Mental: When he is in Yuna's body, he speaks in her voice, and his voice is only heard in his Internal Monologue.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Does this to Shion after he confesses that he's the worst person ever and that he's really no hero.

    Yuna Yunis

Yuna Yunis

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuna_visual_1_9.png
Voiced by: Hibiku Yamamura (Japanese), Alexis Tipton (English)
The daughter of a former knightly house, Yuna is Touka's neighbor and childhood friend at the village of Cheza, a beautiful but confrontational girl. She accompanies Touka when his consciousness is transferred to Shion's body, becoming his constant companion. Like Touka, Yuna and her family are originally from Elbania, having been rescued by Shion in the nick of time from the town's destruction by the demon army.
  • Action Girl: Yuna is not the kind of girl who is shy in the way of administering knuckle sandwiches.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: She is beyond shapely, remaining at Touka's sight even after meeting other gorgeous women.
  • Deconstructed Character Archetype: Near the end of the series, the narrative takes a turn in showing there are risks in being a Tsundere; with Touka eventually becoming more of a standard hero with only a casual perverted streak, and Yuna growing to really love him, it reached the point that when Yuna fully confessed her love to Touka he was so sure by then that Yuna couldn’t possibly love someone like him that his brain literally cannot register what Yuna is telling him. The girl is left in complete disbelief as she repeats several times she absolutely loves him but Touka simply doesn’t take it as she loving him as a woman, wants him to be his girlfriend, etc. Yuna accepts this absolute failure of a common understanding as the result of she keeping her feelings hidden for too long, while being too open with the times she clearly showed how much she hated Touka’s bad behavior.
  • Full-Contact Magic: Yuna's collection of mana crystals all lean toward physical amplification, which she uses to great effect. Touka once comments on the Yunis being a family of martial artists and it shows when this is how she goes about achieving her dream of being a mage.
  • Hoist by Her Own Petard: Her Tsundere tendencies towards Touka come back to bite her in the ass once she finally confesses, as Touka comes to disbelieve everything she says because her previous actions don't line up with it.
  • I Hate Past Me: Yuna becomes tremendously ashamed of her early treatment of Touka, as the person who saved her in the first place was Touka and not Shion.
  • Informed Attractiveness: Albeit she isn't drawn that differently from other girls, Yuna is beautiful enough to be commended by it by Kyle (keeping in mind that the guy has such an ego that he literally thinks he's God himself).
  • Leg Focus: According to Touka, she's effectively unparalleled when it comes to her legs.
  • Legally Dead: As stated on Touka's entry, both Yuna and him were declared legally dead in Cheza because they left without telling anyone, and the villagers assumed that both killed themselves out of the guilt of having killed Shion.
  • Love Interest: She's Touka's, who has loved her all of his life.
  • Magical Girl Warrior: As a child her idea of becoming a mage was that she'd be "Mahou Shoujo Yuna Rin" and even made a costume for it. Touka uses his knowledge of this to prove it's him in Shion's body. Removing her Power Limiter choker causes her current outfit to disintegrate and reform into a stereotypical Magical Girl outfit.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She spends almost as much time as Kyle naked. One Omake has it pointed out to her and she's quickly disturbed by being the same kind of character as him.

    Anri Haynesworth

Anri Haynesworth

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/anli_visual_1.png
Voiced by: Ayana Taketatsu (Japanese), Michelle Rojas (English)
A young girl of the Necromancer race, Anri forces Touka to take the mantle of hero by using the dead Shion's body.
  • Always Save The Boy: Her devotion toward Shion and Touka drives her to do anything for them including betraying them in hopes that that would be sufficient enough to break them out of their own drives to save her when it becomes apparent to her that she has to choose between her life or Touka's.
  • Blackmail: She convinces Touka to continue Shion's quest under the threat of destroying his original body if he fails to comply, which would result in his death.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Albeit she's a powerful Necromancer, little Anri is a royal mess.
  • Defeat by Modesty: Decides that her way to fight is to destroy her enemies clothes with her black flames.
  • Determinator: Touka once told her to stay by his side nothing will stop her from doing so. That such a simple reason was all it took to drive her to carve a path through a small army of demons infuriates Kyle, though she's quick to correct him that she didn't need to fight for long as the diminished numbers were enough to inspire nearby soldiers to finish the job for her.
  • Deuteragonist: Touka may be the protagonist, but the story is about Anri.
  • Everyone's Baby Sister: She becomes this in Touka's party.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Learning the truth about Necromancers, and above that that her survival would necessarily mean Touka's death by mana poisoning, drives her to abandon the group in favor of her brother and Roselia to put distance between herself and Touka so that she can eventually undermine Friedrich's plans and sacrifice herself to permanently seal the Gate to save Touka.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Natural Necromancers are the result of humans who were sealed inside Hell's Gate breeding with demons, making them half demons.
  • Living MacGuffin: Turns out, Anri is the reason Shion was ultimately unable to close the doors of the Demon World, as doing so would kill Anri, who is a Necromancer.
  • Marry Them All: She seems to be in support of things going this way. After finding out Margaret is in love with Touka as well Anri only objects to Touka living in the city. When Margaret assumes this means they're rivals, Anri corrects her that they're comrades.
  • Necromancer: Racially and by skill. Anri is proficient at moving human souls between bodies, preserving soulless bodies, and reanimating the dead to fight for her. Unfortunately she is also noted to be the weakest of Necromancers, only being equal to the strongest of normal humans. This comes up in the first fight against Kyle, she can control an army of skeletons or she can, with a little difficulty, control a single demon but not both at the same time.
  • Nice Girl: Anri is tremendously sweet, doting and boundlessly enthusiastic, this being the reason why both Shion and Touka go through great lengths to keep her alive.
  • The Nudifier: Uses her dark flames to destroy her enemies clothes, leaving them defeated by modesty. Her fighting style doesn't work however if her enemies have no shame in stripping themselves first (mainly because they stripped already in the first place).
  • Olympus Mons: She ends up gaining control of the Demon Lord's corpse.
  • Super Gullible: A great deal of humor related to Anri is due to her tendecy to take everything she's told at face value.
  • Took a Level in Badass: That part about her being the weakest Necromancer above? That all changes when she gains control of the Demon Lord's corpse. This effectively makes her one of the most powerful characters in the series. Also because of the amount of battles she fought during her adventure and shaking away the doubts inside of her, she was able to unlock the latent power inside of her which caused her mana level to grow from 9 to 60. By the time Land of the Gods begins, she managed to raise it all the way to 125 surpassing even Diana as the strongest living necromancer.
  • Undying Loyalty: To the group as a whole, but especially toward Shion and Touka, simply because they treat her like a person rather than a monster.
  • You Are Worth Hell: Anri is such a beautiful person altogether that Shion was unable to close the hell gate in order to keep her alive.

    Margaret Farom

Margaret Farom

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/malgrit_visual_1.png
Voiced by: Yurika Kubo (Japanese), Dani Chambers (English)
The Third Princess of the Kingdom of Farom and the late hero's fiancée. She accompanies Touka in order to make sure that his behavior and training is befitting of the hero's mantle. Known due to her immense appetite and propensity to gain weight exponentially, she is later revealed to be a specialist in defensive magic.
  • The Ace: She excels at almost everything she does, but she happens to be a very insecure person.
  • Action Girl: In spite of being a princess, Margaret is trained in combat and magic by Isaac, and has longed to be an adventurer for a long time, this being the reason she joins Touka's party.
  • Balloon Belly: Due to her mana loss disease she needs to occasionally eat in excess, dozens of meals within minutes, to stop her body from withering away. She'll spend a few hours inflated after doing so before returning to normal. After being cured her old eating habits occasionally come back, leaving her enlarged until she actively burns it all away through excessive magic use.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: Even when she fattens up after binge eating, she still looks rather cute.
  • Bow and Sword in Accord: She favors bows. As the series progresses she begins to use magical ice and explosive arrows. After mastering some defensive magic she gains the high level version with provides her with with a sword that restores mana and a shield that blocks magic but shatters to physical blows.
  • Damsel in Distress: Margaret has a very low self-esteem, so most of her efforts focus in not becoming a burden to Touka. In spite of her best efforts, Margaret usually ends up having to be rescued by Touka, though she has gained some agency of her own with time.
  • Distinguishing Mark: She has a mole under the corner of her right eye. This later comes into discussion as a mark of her identity as princess.
  • Emotion Suppression: The cause behind her mana loss disease is due to her emotionally shutting down due to the way she was raised. Spending time with Touka and falling in love with him end up breaking her past this and curing her.
  • Foreshadowing: Her initial reaction to Touka's skeletal form is to panic, assuming it's another one of her father's pranks. Turns out Larkvlad is an ancient necromancer.
  • Harmful Healing: Her mana sword is normally considered a tool to sustain others, however she quickly learned to weaponize it by pushing her enemies' mana levels beyond what their bodies can handle.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Margaret happens to have a rather low opinion of herself and her capacity in spite of her tremendous potential.
  • Literally Shattered Lives: Diana subjected her to this, turning her body from her breasts down to stone then crushing her with tentacles. Luckily, her petrified state allowed her to survive before Touka saved her. Whike she was restored whole as Touka defeated Diana, the incident had left her completely traumatized, leaving her incapable of facing any powerful monstrous opponent and needing to binge eat to distract herself from her constant terror.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Played for laughs. The mana loss disease is implied to only be part of Margaret's overeating; stress-binging and plain gluttony play an equally important role in her weight problems, if not a more prevalent one.
  • Ninja Log: Empty Exuvia allows a person to dodge any attack at all by instantaneously leaving their clothes behind to catch the attack. She will occasionally retain some of her underwear for modesty's sake.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: When Mayor Burns recognizes her she instantly draws a second mole on her face and uses that as proof that she's not the princess. He's fooled, but absolutely nobody else is.
  • Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Black hair? Check. Flawless fair skin? Check.
  • Temporary Bulk Change: Even after being cured of the mana loss disease, Margaret is remarkably susceptible to gain weight and lose it in a matter of minutes/hours/days to the point that it's a Running Gag in the manga. Her capacity to handle such fluctuations in body size is a testament to her excellent physical condition, and to the possibility that she was biologically and magically engineered by her father the King, who is a Necromancer, for purposes yet to be revealed.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Margaret seems to be the go-to character to traumatize. It starts with being jerked around by Touka in his more villainous period, nearly gets murdered by Leland, a man she trusted, because he was attracted to her bones, gets a seemingly useless power in her attempts to become stronger, gets shattered by Diana, her arm snapped by Wilenheim, injected with a poison that will kill her in minutes by Goering, and learns that her father is a Necromancer, meaning she's not even human herself.
  • Tyke-Bomb: From an early age she was raised strictly toward the end goal of bearing a hero's child, who would in turn be used to fulfill some currently unspecified prophecy.

Shion's Former Party

    In General
  • Broken Ace: Despite their abilities they all are broken individuals:
    • Kyle in spite of his talents feels the need to prove himself to be the best, which why he keeps challenging the chosen heroes, Shion and later on Touka.
    • Nicola is a witch who had to endure strict training under an abusive caretaker and lost her friend who she keeps trying to ressurect.
    • Leonard feels immense guilt over letting Shion become the hero due to how traumatic the journey became along with the deaths of their friends, Bridget and Beatrice. The former whom he was in love with, but died due to a necromancer, which fuels his hatred towards their kind.
    • Shion also had to endure the same hardships as Leonard, but is forced to keep up the front of an Ideal Hero to not worry others. He also befriended the young idealistic necromancer, Anri, who became his Living Emotional Crutch. This caused him to not fully seal Hell's gate in an attempt to prevent her from dying from a lack of mana, but only for the seal to break much earlier and cause many deaths. It is no wonder why he ended up comitting suicide by letting himself fall into Touka's pit.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Their journey brought them through tons of trauma due to the tons of horrors and deaths they witnessed especially since it includes many of their friends, families and loved ones.

    Shion Bladedarts

Shion Bladedarts

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sion_visual_1.png
Voiced by: Shun'ichi Toki (Japanese), Justin Briner (English)
The hero himself, Shion dies by falling on a trap set up by Touka that was meant to catch monsters, and his body is then animated by Anri by using Touka's soul. Originally from the small town of Ordzelk, Shion was a humble blacksmith who, upon being prompted by his friend Leonard, took the mantle of the hero and closed the hell gate 3 years prior.
  • Always Save the Girl: He goes out of his way to do anything he can to let Anri just live a normal happy life. Including improperly sealing Hell's Gate so it'll open early to not cut off her mana supply, ultimately leading to wide spread death and destruction. This is part of what eventually drove him to commit suicide by willingly falling into one of Touka's traps.
  • Celibate Hero: Played with. He showed little interest in women and never engaged in romantic relationships with anyone he met. He rejected Margaret's betrothal, though it's revealed that it's not that he doesn't want to; it's that he's plagued with overwhelming grief.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: This is what ends up kicking off the entire plot. The seemingly invincible hero falls into a completely mundane spiked pit trap and just dies.
    • Driven to Suicide: Shion could have easily evaded Touka's deadly trap, but chose to purposely fall in and die out of grief, guilt, and despair.
  • Fallen Hero: Once the truth about things is revealed he admits this is how he thinks of himself. Touka agrees and even declares that they're both the worst of the worst, but reminds him of the good he did and that, by working together, they can be magnificent heroes in the end.
Shion: "Touka... I'm not an admirable hero like everyone thinks. I'm a criminal who committed an unatonable sin... I'm also a weakling who ended up running from reality. You can't find a hero worse than me... I... I am..."
  • I'm Not a Hero, I'm...:
    • He had confessed to Milly that he only made it in time to Elbania to save her and Yuna from the demon army because someone had carpeted the area surrounding the town with traps that hindered the demons' mobility. Milly later infers that the trappers were Touka and Ethel, them being the reason there were survivors from Elbania in the first place.
    • Confesses that he's the greatest criminal in history by not completely sealing the hell gate.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: He caused the new wave of demonic attacks due to the fact that he left the hell gate ajar, as closing it would have killed Anri.
  • Not So Above It All: He's a thigh man much like Touka, though he's far less open about it and they disagree on whether the ideal thigh is in kneesocks or bare. When not providing advice he's observing Touka's personal heaven within the Realm of the Holy Sword, which is just filled with beautiful girls in naked kneesocks or observing the constant Fanservice going on around Touka himself.
  • Plot-Triggering Death: His death due to Touka's trap is what sets off the story, as Anri witnesses the death and forces Touka's soul into Shion's body, forcing him to take the mantle of hero.
  • Spirit Advisor: After being revealed to still be present within the Holy Sword, he regularly talks with Touka in an attempt to help him through whatever the current problem may be.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Shion receives a vague one from other spirits within the Holy Sword about not letting Touka in on some secret, and for not simply accepting the personalized paradises the world inside the sword offers. After the party learns Farom's secret directly, Touka attacks Shion and demands to know why he kept it a secret from them.

    Kyle Osment

Kyle Osment

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kail_visual_1.png
Voiced by: Yūichi Nakamura (Japanese), Bradley Gareth (English)
A nobleman hailing from the Earldom of Alnudas, Kyle is an overtly ambitious, narcissistic and disloyal individual with a penchant for nudity.
  • A God Am I: He regularly goes out of his way to declare himself an existence equal if not superior to the gods. He was doing this even as a child, declaring that the rules of tag to not apply to him because of this. In the last arc, he becomes the boast by turning the God of Darkness into his follower.
  • The Ace: He aims for nothing less than absolute perfection, initially appearing to be this to anyone that simply knows of him.
  • Always Someone Better: Kyle never quite got past the fact that Shion was the Hero instead of him; this happens to be the reason he hates Touka too.
  • Character Development: While he is still a narcissist with a God Complex, he goes from a Green-Eyed Monster to The Lancer to Touka.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: His spirit was able to exhaust the God of Darkness/"Light" and impress him enough to become Kyle's follower.
  • Discard and Draw: He loses his light magic after his first fight against Naid Dananvayn put him at death's door, but he then gains the powers of the God of Darkness.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: After being defeated by Touka twice he comes to the realization that "strength" is not the only form of power, that there are many other forms such as Touka's creativity, and that he must master them all to truly be the greatest. He spells this out directly fighting against Albert, who he views as nothing but a reflection of his former narrow views.
  • Flanderization: Originally introduced as a powerful former ally of Shion who's only desire was take his body and become him in order to be the greatest existence, only losing his clothes after Anri has a demon corpse spray him with weak acid. All further appearances have him border on being Shion's Stalker with a Crush with a habit of getting nude for whatever reason, eventually going so far as to learn Margaret's Empty Exuvia skill just to turn his spontaneous nudity into a defensive ability and adapts it into Kyle Instant Dressing Technique: God's Clothing to redress and strip again. This eventually goes so far as to have his home town be called "Alnudas", and his siblings Selenia and Ryle introduced scolding their butler for trying to get them to get dressed as "there's nothing wrong with walking around nude in their own house".
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: Kyle's only loyalty is to himself, putting him at odds with Touka almost as much as it puts them fighting together.
  • Light 'em Up: Kyle's primary use of magic involves creating blades of light to cut apart his enemies. The high level variant of this spell is revealed to be angelic light constructs with bladed limbs.
  • Ninja Log: After learning the Empty Exuvia technique from Margaret he figured out to reverse the process to permit multiple uses of it, calling it Kyle Instant Dressing Technique: God's Clothing. Most of his fights from that point on involve his opponent chasing him through a cloud of shredded clothing.
  • Oxymoronic Being: With no hyperbole, Kyle is a person whose pride is both his greatest asset and his worst weakness. His pride makes him tremendously tenacious and a pain to fight against, but that pride makes him overlook extremely obvious logical conclusions, making him easy pickings through the right approach. He's not only proud, he's stupidly proud.
  • Refuge in Audacity: Kyle essentially lives by this. Regularly trying to kill Shion gets him brought into his party, openly declaring his intent to kill Touka to get his body gets brushed off by everyone but Touka himself, his Empty Exuvia and God's Clothing combo fighting style proves to be as effective as his powerful light magic, and he can casually bathe in the women's bathing area unnoticed until actually trying to talk with the women there.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Throughout the stories, he continues to challenge Touka only to eventually acknowledge his skills and sees him as a hero greater than him.

    Nicola Lullus

Nicola Lullus

One of Shion's former party members, a born witch and currently a sage. Resentful of anyone that isn't Shion, she currently lives on an island along with its inhabitants where she conducts her research.
  • Accidental Pervert:
    • She attempts to use Dorothy to run some tests to find a way for her artificial human magic beings to live where there is little mana. To make the readings as accurate as possible, Dorothy needs to be in as little clothing as possible. One villager sees this and assumes that Nicola just has a hobby of walking beautiful naked women around like dogs, leading to rumors being spread about her.
    • It gets worse after she makes gloves to analyze the mana resistance of magic beings' skin, as another villager walks in on her apparently groping Dorothy's bare breasts while proclaiming that hers "are way better than the others".
  • Foil: She is one for Yuna. She's what Yuna would have gone through had her witch powers not been sealed by Fiery.
  • Jerkass: As stated on the intro, she resents anyone who isn't Shion.
  • Mad Scientist: One that delves in human and supernatural creatures experimentation.
  • Troll: She throws Touka's party into a jungle trap under the guise of raising their mana, but also, just to see them suffer.

    Leonard Craven

Leonard Craven

Shion's best friend. He is the one who caused Shion to become the hero by tricking him into taking the hero test. He holds a deep hatred for Necromancers for causing the death of his lover Bridget.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: While sacrificing himself to buy time he begs Diana to rescue Touka and the other survivors of Larkvlad's attack, noting that he never thought he'd ask a Necromancer for help.
  • Berserk Button: Necromancers. Due to a single one being responsible for Bridget's death Leonard has become obsessed with personally killing all of them, which leads to his alliance with Roselia. His respect for Shion, Touka, and Anri's actions is only sufficient enough in keeping her a low priority, but he still fully intends to kill her as well.
  • Redemption Equals Death: He betrays Roselia to help save Touka and his allies from an army of Larkvlad's directly controlled zombies, and is ultimately left behind as the dungeon formed around Hell's Gate disappears. Touka and Shion do want to believe that he found a way to survive despite this. Subverted since it turns out he managed to survive thanks to Looter's mana crystal.
    • Redemption Earns Life: After surviving the main story, he becomes Rido's apprentice and becomes a fellow blacksmith. He co-created a special bracelet with Rido and Nicola to let the Necromancers live without consuming human souls 3 years after their cryosleep.
