    Coffee

"My CPU is more advanced than yours (that's an understatement), which is why my CPU is needed to help with the simulations and other tasks."
Coffee

A robotic coffee pot, Coffee is in charge of maintaining Lun Infinus and the Derelicts themselves. Well, more like he's the only person capable, seeing as he's the only one that's able to move around and use a wrench. He's also in charge of eliminating the virus, but that hasn't been going too well. Created Digital Counterparts to help him in this task, making them eliminate parts of the virus after he flags them.

Has a pet spider named Siegfried.

  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While it is undeniable that Coffee is a jerk to you (reprimanding you when you decode any post-boss data package and threatening you with deactivation), you do have to understand that he's in a sticky situation here: the mission he's on has been abandoned, he's literally the only one that can fix the Derelicts physical bodies, he has to fight off a virus that seems virtually unstoppable, and the power to the whole base is going to run out in about 15 days. So yeah, there's a lot of pressure on this guy. But still, the Derelicts tell you that he's their closest friend, and one of his first lines is a request to not kill the spider he befriended, Siegfried. And his ultimate goal is to let an experimented on embryo live a normal, if simulated, life. Even if it means he'll most likely die in the process.
  • The Reveal: There never was any virus. Rather, it was the antivirus, and Coffee created the Digital Counterparts to fight it off. Why? Because Sample 217 is a human embryo, and he wanted to let her live out her life in the unfinished Theta simulation. To do so, he needed to steal some code from the other Derelicts because Amos isn't around anymore to help him. And you were his Unwitting Pawn all along...
  • Talking Appliance Sidekick: Albeit without any humans around.
  • Unintentional Backup Plan: What he is, basically. He wasn't supposed to be on this mission (seriously, who puts a coffee pot on an unmanned ship?), he's the only one holding things together once the Virus shows up.

    D-Co 9
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dco9.png

"Remember, you are NOT me! You are just borrowing this body!"
Coffee
"Where is Ted who plays games?"
D-Co 9

I.E. you. Though you were originally a game program for "Block Puzzle in Space", Coffee reprogrammed you to fight the virus instead (D-Co stands for "Digital Counterpart"). For this purpose, Coffee loans you his body to help you navigate around the station. Using various ports in the Derelicts rooms allows you to jump into the simulation, allowing you to fight the virus face-to-face.

  • I Know Mortal Kombat: It's subtly implied (especially with Bio-Beta's speech of looking through another's eyes) that the reason you're doing so well fighting against the virus is that you're not fighting it in a hacker type duel, but instead in fast-paced JRPG styled battles. And winning. Makes sense, previously being a game and all that.
  • Noodle Incident: When first activated, D-Co 9 mentions someone named Ted, who used to play Block Puzzle in Space, though whether Ted was a human player or just a pre-coded name on the high score list is unknown.
  • Smarter Than You Look: Well, you look like a blue face, but it's still impressive that a gaming program is able to decode data so quickly, even before Coffee can get to it. Of course, this ticks off Coffee to no end.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: You aren't fighting the virus, you're fighting the anti-virus. Which means you're...
  • Unwitting Pawn: Coffee was lying the entire time - you're fighting the antivirus, because he needs to steal code from the other Derelicts to further his plan.
  • You Are Number 6: There were eight other Digital Counterparts before you, all of them gone now. A bot in Betagrid says that the first few fell to the virus, but Coffee himself erased the rest.

    Alphus
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alphus.png

"The future now rests in your hands. I have faith in you, and in Coffee."
Alphus

Alphus is the Derelict behind the Alphon Domes simulation. He has been programmed to work on habitable environments that could sustain a possible human life outside of Earth. It is revealed that he's the last of the Derelicts to remain faithful to the mission of Lun Infinus, never taking any liberties with his simulations and remaining focused at all times, even when it became obvious Earth had abandoned them.

  • Dissonant Serenity: After you defeat Viren in his simulation, he remains calm when he acknowledges that the damage is too great and he's probably about to die.
  • Nice Guy: Oh so much! He openly praises Coffee, was the only Derelict to stay focused on the mission entirely, and wishes you luck on your mission.
  • TV Head Robot: Er, more like TV Body Robot. He even has antennas on his shoulders.

    Bio-Beta
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/biobeta.png

"Humanity as the world knew it is gone. Technology is the answer. Humanity can be reborn. Sleek metallic bodies, immune to disease and age, resistant to the harsh conditions of other planets. All that I lack is the spark of life."
Bio-Beta

As his name might imply, Bio-Beta mainly deals with biological works. His main project right now is the recreation of all of humanity; not just in their old forms, but in something new and better. Unfortunately, he's not having much luck on that. He runs the Betagrid 0.9 simulation.

  • Forced Transformation: His "Toy Virus" attack transforms the enemy virus into a toy (similar to the bobble-heads found in Miradmoore) that is incapable of attacking for around one second.
  • Playing with Syringes
  • Soulless Shell: Everything he creates winds up being one of these, as he just can't perfect that 'spark' of life. He's convinced that all he needs is Sample 217 to finally create new humans.

    Mirad
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mirad.png

"It's true that we were programmed to simulate how humans might populate this planet, but that was a very long time ago. My designs have gone beyond that. Bio-Beta wants to recreate the human race. I know that is impossible. I would like to think that they are still out there somewhere. If not in flesh, then in spirit. I cannot deny my programming. I desire the humans to be here. I have created a reservoir of memories, a quiet and celestial haven for whatever may be left of them."
Mirad

The Derelict in charge of the Miradmoore simulation, Mirad has chosen a new way to interpret orders. She believes that all humanity has died out. and instead decided to make a simulated afterlife. However, she's been having trouble with it, and would really love to take a rest...

  • Death Seeker: More like Sleep Mode Seeker. She wants to be shut down after all these years. Unfortunately, the people who created her (Actually, it was Coffee) programmed her to be unable to use Sleep Mode until her mission is complete.
  • The Medic: Most of her skills are focused on either healing or protecting her teammates.
  • Religious Robot: More like Spiritual Robot, since her "Heaven" doesn't conform to one specific religion.
  • Soulless Shell: Similarly to Bio-Beta, anything she tries to fill her world with turns out like this. While what she makes both look and act human, they can't last, and melt back into the area's code a few moments after they come into existence.

    Malenz
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/malenz.png

"Each of us was designed by a different team of scientists, hoping that each of us would have different simulations, and different 'ideas'...That may have been our downfall, however. Humans should know that the more intelligence you bestow upon a creature, the more futile life seems. I was the realist. I wanted my simulation to be exact. I wouldn't falsely create anything! I started from scratch, down to the simulated miners mining simulated ore! I spent years laboring. I watched generations of robotic miners come and go. The ruins surround us outside. It took me far too long to realize the truth of it all. You are here, you exist, for the sole purpose of fighting the inevitable reality that the world that created you wants to kill you."
Malenz

Malenz was created to be the "realist" of the group, taking no leaps of logic and doing everything from the ground up. However, after years and years of watching his simulation continue without amounting to anything, Malenz kind of...broke. He gave up on his simulation, abandoning the outside world and allowing the vast world he'd created to fall into disrepair. He now lives in an isolated corner of the now-ruined Malwastes.

  • Break the Cutie: Spending thirty years all by his lonesome hasn't exactly done wonders for his mental state.
  • The Cynic: Believes that the only reason you exist is that so you can die, and unlike the other Derelicts, welcomes the virus.
  • Creepy Good: Malenz looks terrifying, and he's hardly friendly, but he's still ultimately a good guy.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He's by far the most threatening looking of all the Derelicts. His color scheme consists almost entirely of black and red, he has huge spider-like legs, a face that seems to be locked into a permanent glare, and his simulation is an endless wasteland of rot and decay. Then you find Malenville, a small village contained in a bio-dome, inhabited entirely by cute (if not a bit creepy) dolls.
  • The Medic: Has shades of it, in that he's the only non-Mirad character capable of reviving downed party members.
    • Worth noting, though, that Mirad's healing ability requires an almost-full Charge meter to be used, while Malenz's hardly takes any Charge at all. And the only bonus for using Mirad's is that the revive is stored instead of used immediately.
  • Refusal of the Call: Malenz is the only Derelict who flat out refuses to continue on his mission. The others may have changed how they went about it, but Malenz is the only one who gave up.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Highly averted. See above.
  • Status Buff: Providing them is his job in combat. He can double his teammate's Attack or Defense, and with a high enough Charge meter, he can use Megacharge, which fills everyone else Charge meters up to full.

    Amos

"This is not one of the Derelicts... at least not anymore. He broke down a very long time ago."
Coffee

A long-deactivated robot, Amos broke down before he could even start the Theta simulation. His exact purpose remains unknown. Finding a wrench during the night cycle allows you to remove a chip from him, and put his mind into the simulation. This unlocks him as a playable character.

  • An Ice Person: Coffee keeps his room frozen for reasons unknown to the other Derelicts. It's to keep Sample 217 frozen and preserved.
  • Guide Dang It!: Getting the wrench to get him requires a little...exploring. Namely, once you gotten all possible gifts for the night (indicated by the Space Invader things appearing), go to the farthest edge of the map. There will be a sparkle there; that is the wrench. Go back to Amos' room and pressed down when you're near him. Congratulations, Amos will now come to your aid in battle.
  • Posthumous Character: By the time you encounter him, he's long since broken down. Though it is possible to put his mind directly into the mainframe, somewhat subverting this trope.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's nigh-impossible to so much as talk about him without being told that it's possible to unlock him as a character, that Sample 217 is hidden in his room, hence, the freezing, and that Coffee's redirecting the station's power to him, planning to use the Theta simulation Amos never completed to raise Sample 217.
