Protagonists

     Dead Lucky (Bibiana "Bibi" Lopez-Yang)

Bibiana "Bibi" Lopez-Yang

Alias: Dead Lucky

First Appearance: Supermassive #1 (February 2022)

"I really thought I'd be dead by thirty. You kinda have to think that way. You lose people along the way. A little part of you goes with them when you do. You don't get it back. You just keep losing pieces until it's your time. And then it's okay. But I'm thirty-three. And I'm still here."

Bibi is a 33-year-old war veteran who was discharged after the death of her platoon. She returned home to San Francisco with electric powers, as well as the ghosts from her time in the army (possibly in more ways than one). Seeing that her city has become the battlefield for a war between the Morrow corporation and the Salvation Gang, Bibi takes it on herself to intervene.

  • Commonality Connection: She and Eddie are both mixed race.
  • The Dragon: The end of the first arc sees Bibi become head of Morrow's special police, but she secretly wants to bring down the organisation from the inside.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Before The Dead Lucky was even announced, Bibi appeared in-costume at the end of Supermassive #1 in a teaser for the series.
  • Power Incontinence: She has enough trouble with her powers that Eddie modified her dog tags to help, and she electrocuted him when he touched her after she discharged.
  • Revenge: By the end of the first arc of Dead Lucky, after Eddie's death, Bibi's motivation is to tear down Morrow Tech for their role in it.
  • Secret Identity: Subverted. She initially operated with one as an unnamed vigilante protecting people from Morrow and the Salvation Gang, but that only lasts until the end of the first arc, when Bibi becomes the first Massive-Verse character to entirely avert having one once she actually becomes a superhero. At a press conference for Morrow Tech, Bibi's powers are revealed to the world and she adopts the superhero name Dead Lucky.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: She has PTSD, nightly dreams of her time at war and talks to herself as a way of coping.
  • Shock and Awe: Bibi can emit pink-coloured electricity.
  • Working with the Ex: Eddie is her ex and creates her tech and costume, and is seemingly also the only person she's told in regards to her power (other than her therapist, who doesn't believe her). Later on, she admits that she still loves Eddie, but knows he's happily with someone else.

     Eddie

Eddie

First Appearance: The Dead Lucky #1 (August 2022)

Bibi's technician and ex-boyfriend. He created the mech she used to fight the Salvation Gang as well as her suit.
  • Commonality Connection: He and Bibi are both mixed race.
  • Death by Origin Story: He dies helping Bibi at the end of the first arc, and it's his death that leads to her publicly revealing herself and donning the identity of Dead Lucky.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: When it seems like Bibi is going to lose to Morrow's forces, Eddie pilots Bibi's mech to take them down, dying in the process.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Eddie creates robots and supersuits.
  • Secret-Keeper: Eddie keeps Bibi's powers and her vigilante activities a secret.
  • Working with the Ex: Bibi let him in on her powers and he creates tech to allow her to utilise them. When Bibi tells him she still loves him, he says he feels the same, but they both know he loves his girlfriend, too.

     Maria

Maria

First Appearance: The Dead Lucky #1 (August 2022)

A police officer assigned to guard a Morrow executive.
  • Fair Cop: Bibi is into her and has her labeled as "hot cop" in her contacts.
  • Friend on the Force: She's okay with what Bibi does and keeps her secret after finding out.
  • Secret-Keeper: Very quickly learned Bibi's identity but didn't say anything to the police or Morrow. She did talk to Bibi about it, however.
