Zach
Zach is the most seen protagonist in the series as most of the story is told from his point of view. He is 18 during 2014, where the events of The 15 Keys Rising are set.- An Arm and a Leg: His right arm was completely cut off and he gave one of his hearts to Aelita, receiving a cybernetic one.
- Second Love: For Aelita and vise versa.
- Hope Bringer: He is, after all, a wayfinder.

Monica
Monica is a cyborg in The 15 Keys Rising, having most of her body removed and a M-003 (Barebones) cyborg body model. She is one of the main protagonists early in the series but appears less often later due to her plot being resolved early. Her plot sections are replaced from then on by Aelita's. She is 18 during 2014.- Action Girl: She can liquify and cool metal for storage in her body, and uses newly cooled throwing knives to fight.
- Badass Normal: He is also incompatible with cybernetic implants.
- Dual Wield: His swords are built for this.
Aelita
An Expy character. Aelita is a primary protagonist, appearing nearly as often as Zach does and is one of the only 5 characters to receive their own point of view chapters. She originates from the cartoon Code Lyoko and is 17 during 2014.- Always Save the Girl: Zach gave her one of his hearts, and later even gave her his HF Katana.
- Second Love: To Zach and vise versa.
