While keeping certain aspects of their original personnas, Stockholm makes serious deviations with the humanized cast it uses.

     Tropes Shared By Every Character
  • Characterization Marches On: The featured characters all seem to change quite a bit from the story's beginning and to the end, as well as in other unreleased one-shots.
    • Rainbow Dash starts off as a snarky, tomboyish girl who could be a bit insensitive, but still very loyal and caring to her friends. As the story goes on and her dark secrets are revealed, she eventually snaps and wants to drive out everyone she ever loved; eventually ending up in a mental hospital. When the story ends, she's more ready and willing to get better and to work things out for herself and her family.
    • Fluttershy starts off as a kind, sweet, but very insecure and shy woman who makes bad decisions. She eventually becomes way too consumed with her insecurities and uncertainties in life that she can't properly help her friends and makes a lot of mistakes. By the story's end, she's a lot more confident and realizes that she has to confront her problems head on in order to make the life she wants. She is also a single mother to Scootaloo and has a stable job.
    • In a flashback, Twilight is a bit more awkward, prefers privacy on her personal life, and also very studious. By Stockholm's beginning, she's a Deadpan Snarker, prone to anger, easily annoyed, and makes threats of violence to her own wife. As the story goes on, she becomes more worried about herself, but works to overcome it, as well as becoming more reasonable and logical. In the end, she's still determined to overcome her problems and helps her friends with brutal, but caring honesty.
    • Ascentia is an especially jarring example. When she's first introduced in a flashback, she's pretty much a badass kind of girl; very unapproachable, prone to violence, and no interest in social activity. After she gets together with Twilight, she retains most of this, but still opens up and showcases her kinder and more sensitive side. When they break up, she hits rock bottom; drinking, binge eating, not taking care of her hygiene, and getting a tattoo. In Stockholm's beginning, she's a Deadpan Snarker with self-aware tendencies, childish, whiny, cracking one-liners, and being silly. As the story progresses, she mostly retains this, but is falling more and more to being unstable. This is especially due to Twilight seeking help, which she completely disapproves of and wants things to go back to the way they were. By the story's end, she is revealed to not only have Stockholm Syndrome and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder; but also has had her entire personality pretty much broken thanks to Twilight's abuse.
    • Sweetie Belle starts off as a Cheerful Child who finally had the courage to tell Apple Bloom how she felt. Eventually, she became a Fille Fatale toward Rainbow Dash, which actually has a Freudian Excuse attached to it. By the story's end, she feels remorseful for what happened is ashamed of her sexual desires and what she'd done.
    • Pervy, the personification of Rainbow's perverted side, had her first appearance (being in Rainbow's mind through thought dialogue) being just Rainbow Dash if she let her perversion unleashed. However, she soon becomes a character of her own, especially later on. While she looks like Rainbow Dash and shares a lot of personality quirks and mannerisms, is actually very sweet and desires intimacy than just sex.
  • Cuddle Bug: Pretty much every featured character is incredibly trigger-happy when it comes to physical affection. There is not one chapter that doesn't, at some point, feature hugs, cuddling, kissing, or some kind of physical contact.
  • Love Makes You Crazy: It's not quite love itself, but it is clear that love hasn't helped everyone's issues. While the love is and always has been there with all the couples involved; it isn't enough to overcome their problems.
  • Too Dumb to Live
    • Twilight readily buys Ascentia's lie that she enjoys the abuse.
    • Ascentia goes far out of her way to keep her abuser and rapist out of prison, despite being uncomfortably aware of how toxic the relationship is.
    • Fluttershy coddles Rainbow Dash's lust toward young girls at nearly every opprotunity, despite everyone (including Rainbow) saying that she needs to seek help for it.
    • The phrase "Get out of my house" doesn't seem to come to Rainbow's mind when Sweetie Belle is practically trying to give her a lap dance.
    • It is very jarring seeing Sweetie Belle flirting and being suggestive with a woman who continuously tells her that she's afraid of becoming a sexual predator.

     Twilight Sparkle
One of the primary protagonists of ''Stockholm.'
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing
  • Demonization: Twilight is guilty of some of the worst moral transgressions than anyone else in the story.
    • Though Twilight does seek to make amends for the terrible things she's done, such as going to therapy and taking anger management classes.
      • Some would say that this makes her even worse, as despite any efforts, her behavior doesn't get any better.
    • Rainbow remarks on her behavior toward Ascentia with the phrase "Stroking her hair with one hand and stabbing her in the spine with the other."
  • Domestic Abuse: Twilight is repeatedly beating and raping her wife (though the latter is never explicitly shown) throughout the story. Overcoming this is her character arc.

     Rainbow Dash
  • A Lady on Each Arm She ends up happily married to Fluttershy, while also having Pervy/Cielle alongside them. It Makes Sense in Context.
  • Covert Pervert: Rainbow has a strong sexual attraction to teenage girls, something that is increasingly tempted throughout the story.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Is the Tomboy to Fluttershy's Girly Girl. She isn't completely against feminine clothing, it's more that she prefers to wear comfortable clothing.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Rainbow has one of these moments on Twilight after it's discovered that she's cheating on Ascentia with Spike.
  • Wrong Genetic Sex: Rainbow is an Intersex, though this portrayal is not biologically accurate.

     Fluttershy Dash
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Not explicitly shown, but she reveals that her family sometimes called her "Flutterhulk". In one scene, she reveals to Ascentia that she's perfectly capable of defending herself in combat and could easily snap her neck within a single second. She says all of this in a very calm tone, too.
    • However, as Ascentia never called her bluff, it's unknown just how much of this is true. Whether it was a threat or a genuine assessment of her skills, it's better not to tempt fate.
  • Have I Mentioned I Am Heterosexual Today?: Early on, it's fairly certain that she's straight. In chapter one she's confused, as she never looks upon other women that way, and yet was tempted by Rainbow almost immediately after it got suggestive between them. As the story progresses, she denies being gay, despite everyone else calling her out on it. Even when she concedes, it's fairly uncertain where her sexuality lies. She expresses interest in Pinkie and later two elements of Rainbow's psyche, all of them women. Fluttershy seems to have demisexuality when it comes to Rainbow, though. Even by the story's end, it's unclear if she's straight (with exceptions), gay, or even bisexual.
  • Stepford Smiler: During the second half, she becomes this.
    • It's even a little funny, considering that she spends most of her time at Rainbow's home, later living with her, and is much like a housewife.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Fluttershy delivers an excellent one to Twilight after she finds out about her affair with Spike. Considering that she once cheated, it's no wonder.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Is the Girly Girl to Rainbow Dash's Tomboy.

     Ascentia Sparkle
  • Berserk Button: Don't ever suggest that she leave Twilight... ever.
    • Unless you're asking for trouble, don't tell her that you think Twilight is crazy in some manner.
  • Chickification: Compared to the original incarnation of Ascentia, in Stockholm she is far girlier and feminine. However, you wouldn't exactly know by looking at her.
  • Cuddle Bug: So much so that she eagerly sits in Twilight's lap... and she's a foot taller than her.
  • The Cutie: While everyone is the cutie to some degree, Ascentia is the most overplayed.
  • Double Subversion: Ascentia is tall, strong, physically imposing and frightening. However, that is only her appearance. Her personality is more of a girlish clown than anything else, sharing elements of the Cuddle Bug and Stepford Snarker.
    • A hilarious (unreleased) description used for her was that of a "toothless puppy wrapping its gums around the ankle of an intruder".
  • Driven to Suicide: Ascentia was contemplating suicide multiple times during the string of abuse from Twilight.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Twilight's nickname for her is Kitten. For a woman of her size and level of intimidation, it's nearly akin to giving it to Darth Vader. She loves it, though, in spite of its dark origin.
    • Pinkie calls her "Asy" (ass-ee), which is absolutely silly and childish.
  • Emotional Regression: While the other characters grow stronger as the story progresses, Ascentia seems to become more and more unstable toward the story's end.
  • Genre Savvy: Ascentia seems perplexingly aware of how Shipping fanfiction works.
    • Subverted by the fact that most of her predictions early on are only half-right.
  • Girliness Upgrade: Ascentia has far more enthusiasm for traditional feminine qualities than her Val'Kyr counterpart.
    • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Admittedly, Ascentia has zero sense of style, and often requires Rarity's help to express her more feminine side.
  • Happily Adopted
  • Mood-Swinger: Ascentia psychotically switches around between being playful, being intimidating, being affectionately cute, and outright panic.
  • Redhead In Green
  • The Woobie: invoked Having been the victim of physical abuse and rape, she earns this title moreso than anyone else.
    • The girls have grown very protective of Ascentia as a result of all of this.
  • Would Hit Pinkie Pie: Ascentia assaults Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie on at least one occasion each, something the other characters consider a mortal sin.
  • Yandere: Ascentia shows inklings of a psychotic obsession with Twilight from the start of the story. This culminates in The Dash Family, where Ascentia is shown to kill indiscriminately in the name of protecting Twilight, and is driven to panic at the idea of Twilight leaving her.
    • Jerry has gone on record stating that Ascentia's condition is the result of the people around her treating her like a china doll. Their coddling has only enabled Ascentia's rapidly deteriorating mental state.

     Sweetie Belle
  • Fille Fatale: She is this to a degree, especially during one particular scene.
  • Tempting Fate: Sweetie Belle is repeatedly flirting with Rainbow Dash throughout the story, despite being fully aware of her lust toward teenagers.

     Scootaloo
  • Cheerful Child: Or rather, teenager. But she's still a very enthusiastic and genuinely cheerful kid.
  • Cool Big Sis: She becomes this in the epilogue after Spectrum is born, very excited to be a big sister.
  • Happily Adopted: She is later adopted by Rainbow Dash, much to her delight. She later is under the custody of Fluttershy, whom she also considers a sister/mother.

     Pervy/Cielle
Pervy is named due to the fact she's part of Rainbow's mind. She explains that there are many personifications of Rainbow's personality. She herself happens to be the element of her psyche that pertains to her perversion. In spite of that, she develops a character and personality of her own while still maintaining the perversion. She looks exactly like Rainbow, except she's %100 female.

  • Covert Pervert: She IS the manifestation of Rainbow Dash's perverted side, after all.
  • Genki Girl: Not to the same level as Pinkie Pie, but she definitely has energy and seemingly unlimited stamina.
  • Screw Yourself: Just about any scene shared with Rainbow involves them either having sex or just loving each other.

     Sunrise Sparkle
  • Break the Cutie: Ascentia's death did this to her.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: With Spectrum Dash.
  • Family Relationship Switcheroo: It's revealed that Spike was the sperm donor for Twilight to have Sunrise in the first place.
    • After the death of her mother Sunrise refused to ever acknowledge him as her father.
  • Mommy Issues: Sunrise hates Twilight for pushing Ascentia to suicide.
    • In her adulthood, she forbade Twilight from ever seeing her granddaughter.
  • Never Grew Up: Sunrise retained a rather childish attitude her entire life, especially in her late teens.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With her mother, Ascentia. Despite their constant arguing and bickering, they were closer than most people gave them credit for.
    • This was never revealed until after Ascentia committed suicide. Before then, people figured they simply did not get along at all.
  • Wife-Basher Basher
