The Clones

In General

Delta Squad

    Boss

Boss (RC-1138)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rc1138boss.jpg
Appears in: Republic Commando Series | Republic Commando | The Clone Wars | The Clone Wars Adventures

  • Deadpan Snarker: Engages in this a bit less than Scorch and Sev, but won't hesitate to let snark fly out when he feels the need to.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: A clone derisively makes a comment towards him once he's separated from his squad, questioning his effectiveness, this actually upsets Boss so much that he calls the clone a coward, and offers no sympathy when he's killed.
  • Genius Bruiser: Fits this description more than Fixer, as his tactical awareness and commanding ability is the reason Delta Squad manages to overcome harrowing odds time and time again and is one of the most capable commandos around.
  • The Leader: The leader of Delta Squad, his word tends to be final on all decisions in the squad, even if Sev, Fixer, or Scorch may question what he's doing at times.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite his professionalism, he's known to be quite confident of his performance and the performance of his squad, won't hesitate to make snarky remarks and he's at least once gotten pissed that a charge misfired.
  • Shout-Out: Boss's identification number is 1138. It's a recurring number in most of George Lucas' works, including Star Wars, as a reference to his earlier work, THX 1138.
  • To Be Lawful or Good: When Delta Squad loses Sev's signal, Boss is more than willing to defy orders with Scorch to try and save him, but is essentially strong-armed into leaving since the orders supposedly came from Yoda himself.
  • Unusual Euphemism: Is prone to these when giving orders regarding explosives. Terms such as "Radical Restructuring" and "Rearrange some architecture" come to mind.

    Fixer

Fixer (RC-1140)

Appears in: Republic Commando Series | Republic Commando | The Clone Wars | The Clone Wars Adventures
Voiced by: Andrew Chaikin

  • The Comically Serious: It never matters what's been said or what's happening, Fixer's going to remain serious and in the moment.
  • Number Two: Fixer is a lot more willing to follow orders and get the job done by the book than Sev or Scorch, which is why he's in charge if Boss isn't around giving orders.
  • Only Sane Man: Sev and Scorch are both basically Blood Knights of different stripes, and even Boss has moments of overconfidence. Fixer is a level-headed, by-the-book Commando (to the point of referring to his squadmates by their numerical designations rather than their nicknames) and the only one of the four who never lets his emotions show.
  • Sorry I'm Late: This is the manner in which Fixer finds Boss aboard the Prosecutor.
  • To Be Lawful or Good: The only member of his squad to choose lawfulness. He never once entertains the thought of attempting to save Sev.
  • The Quiet One: He's a lot less chatty than anyone on Delta Squad, even the Boss.
  • The Reliable One: Not that the others are incompetent, but he is the one most likely to follow orders without complaint, and on the Prosecutor, he's the only other member of the squad besides Boss to fight off Trandoshan ambush and complete his objective without any outside help.
  • The Smart One: Fixer serves as the slicer and technology expert for Delta Squad.

    Sev

Sev (RC-1207)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rc_1207sev.jpg
Appears in: Republic Commando Series | Republic Commando | The Clone Wars | The Clone Wars Adventures
Voiced by: Jonathan David Cook

  • Body-Count Competition: He has one with Scorch, though his real motivator is to slaughter Geonosians equal to the number of Commandos they killed during the Battle of Geonosis.
  • Ceiling Cling: When Delta Squad first links up with Sev on Geonosis, he is seen clinging to the underside of the platform the rest of the squad is rappelling down from in order to evade detection by two Geonosian warriors who are lying in wait for Boss, Fixer, and Scorch. Before the squad lands, Sev falls from his position and subsequently lays the smackdown on the warriors.
  • Cold Sniper: Rather indifferent to everything that doesn't revolve around combat or making fun of Scorch.
  • Conditioned to Accept Horror: He's probably the most accepting of the visceral actions of his enemies, if only because it allows him to act out his murderous aggression towards them later.
  • Fantastic Racism: While none of his squadmates were above using racial slurs (not even Fixer), Sev outright hates Geonosians and would keep track of Geos killed. This is specifically because half of the clone commandos deployed to Geonosis at the beginning of the war were killed in the one battle, and Sev has vowed to keep slaughtering Geonosians until he’s killed the same number.
  • No One Gets Left Behind: Subverted when Delta Squad complies with the order to leave Sev behind on Kashyyyk, over Scorch's protests.
  • Not Quite Dead: According to Word of God, the sequel to the Republic Commando game would have revealed that Sev was alive and he would've joined the Rebellion as one of its first soldiers.
  • Psycho Party Member: Scorch worries that Sev may be one of these in one of the loading screens:
Scorch: Boss, Keep an eye on Sev. He's been talking in his sleep lately, and I gotta tell you... it's scary stuff. Very scary stuff.
    • Also, on Kashyyyk:
Scorch: Man, this place gives me the creeps.
Sev: Ah, Scorch, nothing better than a jungle hunt. Hiding in the bush, putting a plasma bolt through a hostile's cranium... makes me feel alive.
Scorch: Okay, now 07's giving me the creeps.
  • Red Is Violent: His armor is marked with an unknown crimson substance and he's the most violent of the squad.
  • Snark-to-Snark Combat: Constantly going back and forth with Scorch.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Scorch. Really shines at the end, when Scorch's ready to disobey orders to go back and rescue Sev despite all the crap they constantly gave each other throughout the game.

    Scorch

Scorch (RC-1262)

  • Casual Danger Dialogue: Constantly chatters during fights as though it were just another day in the office for him, even if it's a Dwarf Spider Droid bearing down on your squad.
  • Demolitions Expert: He's your explosives specialist and grenadier, and reacts with almost childlike enthusiasm to being given anti-armor weaponry.
  • Everyone Has Standards: He's legitimately shocked that Trandoshan berserkers would run through their own minefield to get to Delta Squad.
  • Eyebrows Burned Off: The source of his nickname. While training with Walon Vau, he managed to fire an explosive round in such a way that left both of them without eyebrows for a few weeks.
Walon Vau: Minor burns and injuries incurred today during anti-armor weapons training with RC-1262. New nickname: "Scorch."
  • Leet Lingo: Scorch will occasionally say "No terminal can match my l33t hax0r skillz!" when ordered to slice a computer terminal. Yes. He really does.
  • Psycho Party Member: It doesn't stick out all that much since he doesn't really do the Creepy Monotone or implied Slasher Smile that Sev does, but he's pretty much just as psycho as Sev thanks to his love of Stuff Blowing Up.
  • Running Gag: Scorch is constantly creeped out by various things in the game, much to the squads derision.
  • Snark-to-Snark Combat: Constantly going back and forth with Sev.
  • To Be Lawful or Good: Scorch immediately wants to go save Sev when he announces he's been overrun, even encouraging Boss to go get him against orders. He only stops when Boss decides to leave him behind and realizes he'll have no support attempting to save his fellow Delta.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Sev. Really shines at the end, when he's ready to disobey orders to go back and rescue Sev despite all the crap they constantly gave each other throughout the game.
  • Wire Dilemma: Played for Laughs occasionally when Scorch is arming a charge. Given he is the joker on the team, he might be intentionally invoking this as a joke.
Scorch: Was it "Red, Red, Green" or "Red, Green, Red?"
Sev: And he's supposed to be the demolitions expert?
  • You Do Not Want To Know: Says this about where he kept the data core he'd been assigned to retrieve from the Trandoshans. (Context implies he employed Ass Shove).

Omega Squad

    In General
  • Badass Crew: While not as cool as Delta, who love to tout their unbroken record of successes, Omega are still one of the most cutting-edge special forces crews in the galaxy and capable of infiltrating and destroying anything in it.
  • Four-Temperament Ensemble: Niner is Phlegmatic, Atin is Choleric, Darman is Melancholic, and Fi is Sanguine.
  • Sole Survivor: The squad is made up of clones who were the only survivors of their respective squads at the Battle of Geonosis.
  • True Companions: Like most other squads, Omega have only each other to rely on, and treat each other like brothers. Darman ponders that he never thought he could have a bond as close as the one he had with his original team, but he does.

    Niner

Niner Skirata (RC-1309)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/niner_skirata_helmetless_tv_tropes.jpg
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/niner_skirata_rc_tv_tropes.jpg

"The six Ps, sir. Proper Planning Prevents Pi... Inadequate Performance, sir."

  • A Father to His Men: Darman notes that he sounds like Kal Skirata often.
  • Game-Breaking Injury: Gets nearly crippled during a critical moment in Order 66. He manages to recover by the next book.
  • The Generic Guy: Receives the least characterization of the members in Omega, but this is only because he's busy trying to keep everyone sane.
  • Meaningful Name: He's named Niner presumably because his RC number ends with a nine. In Order 66, a list of casualties reveals that this is a common name in the clone ranks for that very reason.
  • Team Dad: The effective leader of Omega, and in its familial structure, that means being the dad.

    Darman

Darman Skirata (RC-1136/IC-1136)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/darman_skirata_2_rc_tv_tropes.jpg
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/darman_skirata_rc_tv_tropes.jpg

Appears in: Republic Commando Series | Omega Squad: Targets | Odds

"I can't think of a better time to die than when I'm no longer the best."

  • Action Dad: From True Colors on, though he doesn't know it until Order 66.
  • Demolitions Expert: Of Omega Squad.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: As the most central clone POV, he talks about this the most.
  • Married to the Job: Discussed with him, as he's the closest to an actual married clone with his relationship with Etain. He notes that every day he wants to be with her, but also values being with his brothers too much to just leave them, and so he's stuck where he is.
  • Official Couple: He and Etain form the most central one.
  • The Protagonist: Of the first book Hard Contact, and remains one of the main POV’s in his series. The best way to chart the books' arcs is to see what’s happening with Darman.
  • Sole Survivor: While all of Omega are the survivors of their original squads, Darman thinks about his the most, and we see the mission they were killed in at the start of the very first book. Their names were Vin, Jay, and Taler.
  • Tuckerization: Of Peter Darman, a military writer. This was actually supposed to be a placeholder name, but when it was accidentally released into the public domain, it stuck.
  • Unfortunate Names: Dar'manda is used to refer to someone who has lost their Mandalorian heritage, so it's weird as to why Kal would name one of his surrogate sons the equivalent of "hell-damned". The Wook rationalizes that he may have named him as such out of pity.
  • Weak to Fire: He ends up on the wrong end of a flamethrower in Triple Zero. His armor means he comes through without a scratch, but he has nightmares about it from then on.

    Fi

Fi Skirata (RC-8015)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fi_skirata_essential_readers_tv_tropes.jpg

"I don't feel like a Republic citizen because none of us are."

  • And Now for Someone Completely Different: After Darman was the main clone protagonist of Hard Contact, Fi gets a lot of focus during Triple Zero.
  • Disabled Badass: He suffers a serious brain injury that compromises his mind and motor skills, but recovers in time with therapy and Jusik’s Force healing treatments.
  • Brought Down to Badass: After recovery, he laments that he’ll never be his old self, but as Gilamar points out, 93% of a clone is about 150% of a regular human.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Constantly.
  • Friendly Sniper: He's Omega Squad's sniper and the most outgoing of the bunch.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: During the events of Triple Zero as he watches his brother's pair off with various women and realizes he desperately wants a girlfriend too. He finally gets one when he meets Parja.
  • Meaningful Name: Is named Five because his number ends with Five. In Order 66, a list of casualties reveals that this is a common name in the clone ranks for that very reason.
  • No-Respect Guy: Averted hard. After throwing himself onto a grenade during a hostage crisis the entire Coruscant Police Department wants to buy him drinks. They remember his actions months later with Captain Obrim constantly asking him when they can buy him said drinks. This event is also what begins his friendship with Ordo.
  • Official Couple: Ends up dating Parja, the niece of one of Skirata's old war pals.
  • Odd Friendship: With Ordo, the anti-social, extremely straight laced, "instant death on legs" Null Arc trooper.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: Constantly. Lampshaded, as Darman notes that in such a high-stress, life-or-death job, knowing at least one teammate is going to see the humor in it legitimately does make it easier.
  • Sad Clown: That said, after a while his jokes tend to gain a sad edge.

    Atin

Atin Skirata (RC-3222)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/atin_skirata_rc_tv_tropes.jpg

  • Abusive Parents: Vau was one. Most notably, Atin attacked him during training and Vau cut him to pieces with a beskar saber and left him in healing bacta (the Star Wars equivalent of the ICU) for a week.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: Is pretty quiet normally, but only because he's nurturing a deep rage, a lot of which is directed at Vau. When he gets the opportunity he sincerely tries to murder him and is only stopped by Bardan Force-pushing them apart.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Has a big one running from under his right eye over his lips to the end of his left jaw. He also has more on his back and chest. He got them from Vau.
  • The Lancer: The second-most responsible member of the squad and has the edge in combat, having been trained by Vau instead of Skirata.
  • Meaningful Name: He is named for the Mando'a word atini, meaning "stubborn" or "persistent".note
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Ends up dating Laseema after Triple Zero, meaning he's the first clone after Darman to get a steady girlfriend.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Has this. Guess with who.

    Corr

Corr Skirata (RC-5108/8843)

An ordinary clone demolitions trooper who lost both his hands in a defusal gone wrong. While being fitted for prosthetics, he was reassigned to office work on Coruscant and made the acquaintance of Besany Wennen. After the two became friends with Skirata and Omega, Corr underwent cross-training to become a commando and eventually replaced Fi on Omega Squad.
  • Artificial Limbs: He uses his to do knife tricks that might risk fingers on a normal hand.
  • Ascended Extra: Starts as a normal trooper who Ordo can conveniently swap places with for a spy-op. Ends up a fully trained commando.
  • The Casanova: Is introduced to this life by Jaing and Mereel. It's implied he's pretty accomplished.
  • Gallows Humor: After you lose both your hands to a bomb your sense of humor changes.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: He falls into this role when he replaces Fi in Omega. Invoked in-universe, since Darman notes it is actually nice to have someone who'll crack a joke here and there.

The Nulls

The Null Advanced Recon Commandos were the very first batch of ARC troopers. Twelve fetuses were gestated, but only six survived to birth. As the first of their kind, they had features their successors wouldn't, including eidetic memories, increased independence, and a tinkered loyalty gene. If a Null likes you, they'll die for you. And if they don't, they might kill you for jeopardizing someone else. All this created a product the Kaminoans deemed "unsuitable", which lead to their Null designation and a planned deletion, which is when Kal Skirata rescued them and adopted them.

In the present day, they serve as elite infiltrators and spies, destroying factories and hacking databases. On their own time, they're also working with Skirata to undo the clones' accelerated aging, a process that requires a fair amount of their skill set.

    In General
  • Badass Crew: There may only be 6 of them, but that's all it took to take an entire barracks hostage right after Geonosis.
  • Badass Family: Oh yes, deliberately encouraged by Skirata too.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Tend to create this dynamic with the commandos, as seen with Ordo, A'den, and Mereel.
  • Big Brother Worship: Omega says they seemed like unstoppable gods to the commandos in their childhood, even more wild and badass than them, let alone the rank-and-file.
  • One-Man Army: What they each equate to. One alone does things like sabotage droid factories or hack databases. When they work together, they can pull off Ocean's 11-style capers easily.
  • The Spymaster: They’re the clone intelligence units mentioned in Revenge of the Sith. It’s unclear if the term is exclusive to them or means "any clone intelligence apparatus", but in Order 66 they explicitly mention knowing Grievous is on Utapau and heading over to headquarters to let them know.
  • Tyke-Bomb: They were dubbed as being too unstable by the Kaminoans. When Skirata took them under his leave, he let them have free reign, which resulted in them doing things like climbing Kamino's domes and hacking the mainframes.

    Ordo

Captain Ordo Skirata (Null-11/N-11)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/arc_captain_ordo2.jpg
The effective leader of the Null ARCs, and a POV character in most books. He spends most of his time with Skirata or coordinating Skirata's various schemes.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Although they're all about the same age, Ordo cemented himself as this when at age two (four in clone years) he pulled Skirata's hold-out blaster from its pocket and threatened a Kaminoan scientist with it.
  • Call-Back: Kal named him after Knights of the Old Republic's Canderous Ordo, otherwise known as Mandalore the Preserver.
  • Official Couple: With Besany.
  • No Sense of Humor: A character notes that his kids with Besany will be beautiful but unsmiling perfectionists who will need to have jokes explained to them.
  • Odd Friendship: With Fi, the motor mouthed smart ass who's first comment to Ordo was to make fun of his "skirt".
  • Parental Favoritism: Skirata spends more time gushing over him in narration than anyone else. A minor source of angst, as Skirata wants to love all his boys the same, and Ordo doesn't want any advantage over his brothers. Played for laughs in that the other Nulls kind of know and don't worry about it much.
  • Theme Naming: Mereel and Ordo are both named for the clans of two Mandalores.
  • Tyke-Bomb: Like all the Nulls, he was tinkered with to have a photographic memory and a tinkered loyalty response. If he likes you, he'll die for you. If not, he couldn't give a crap.

    Jaing

Lieutenant Jaing Skirata (Null-10/N-10)

The second-most prominent Null. He's partial to hacking operations and is quite The Casanova. He ends up instrumental to the clones' gene research.

  • Call-Back: Kal named him after Jaing, a legendary Mandalorian Neo-Crusader from the oneshot minicomic, Prototypes.
  • The Cracker: The premier example in the series.

    Mereel

Lieutenant Mereel Skirata (Null-7/N-7)

  • Call-Back: Kal named him after Jango Fett: Open Seasons's Jaster Mereel, the Mand'alor during the Mandalorian Civil War and Jango's adoptive father.
  • The Casanova: In contrast to super-serious Ordo, Mereel apparently dates around and is quite smooth with the ladies. He takes Corr under his wing in the later books.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: His armor is blue, which can symbolize reliability. It's not described as the same shade as Jango's, though.
  • Dead Guy Junior: He is named after Jaster Mereel, a Journeyman Protector (and later, Mand'alor) and the man that took in Jango after Jango's family was killed. In a way, it counts as this trope since Mereel is a clone of Jango.
  • Stepford Smiler: He’s very friendly, but when they capture Ko Sai, he’s very willing to torture her for information. Like all of the Nulls, he has some unresolved issues from their early childhood.
  • Theme Naming: Mereel and Ordo are both named for the clans of two Mandalores.

    A'den

Sergeant A'den Skirata (Null-12/N-12)

  • A Day in the Limelight: Appears in True Colors as Omega's liaison on Gaftikaar. Notably is the one who introduces them to Ny, who becomes a part of the main cast.
  • Beneath the Mask: He's more stoic than the other Nulls we see, but noticeably gets riled up when they meet Sull.
  • Meaningful Name: A'den is Mando'a for "rage".
  • Plausible Deniability: When Omega finds clone deserter Sull on Gaftikaar and bring him in for potential court-martial, he has them leave the two of them alone. Shortly after, Sull mysteriously escapes custody and gets a ride off-planet with A'den's friend Ny.
  • Sergeant Rock: Serves this role on Gaftikaar as the one training the local resistance.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: His discussion with Sull in Omega's presence ends up catalyzing their desire to desert when the war is over.

    Prudii

Lieutenant Prudii Skirata (Null-5/N-5)

    Kom'rk

Lieutenant Kom'rk Skirata (Null-6/N-6)

Advanced Recon Commandos

    Spar

Spar (Alpha-Ø2), Mandalore the Resurrector

  • Bus Crash: History of the Mandalorians states that he's killed by Ailyn Vel years after Return of the Jedi, who mistook him for her estranged father Boba due to his similar armor.
  • Mistaken Identity: According to History of the Mandalorians, he gets killed by Ailyn Vel, who mistook him for Boba due to their similar armor, having learned earlier that her father survived the sarlacc pit. Only after killing Spar did she realize she was mistaken, though she then used his armor to disguise herself as Boba to get higher bounty payouts.

    Maze

Maze (Alpha-26)

The ARC trooper assigned to Master Arligan Zey, head of Special Operations. Like all ARCs, Maze would prefer to be out in the field, but his presence is too useful to the general to send him anywhere else.
  • Almighty Janitor: In theory, he's just the assistant to the head of Special Operations. But considering his high level of training and the Jedi's inexperience, he probably has as much input into strategy as anyone in the army. It's mentioned that this is by design, with high-ranking Jedi getting an ARC assigned to provide strategic advice.
  • Bothering by the Book: He's rule-oriented compared to the rebellious Null Arcs, and occasionally butts heads (literally) with them over this.
  • Undying Loyalty: In the end, he's quite fond of Zey, since he's the non-clone/CO he's spent the most time with as an adult. This comes back in unexpected ways.

    Sull

Sull (Alpha-30)

An ARC trooper that was sent to help raise the resistance on Gaftikaar and then deserted. When Omega arrive there in True Colors, they find him living in the planet's capital and working as a cab driver. Suspecting him of aiding the enemy, they bring him in for interrogation, but his desertion turns out to be sincere.

Tropes:

  • Combat Pragmatist: Bites the hell out of Darman's forearm when jumped by him. Omega ponder that it might need disinfecting after, he bit so deep.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Like all ARCs. Amongst other things, he still does evasion routines when commuting home, and has buried his armor outside the city for future recovery.
  • From Camouflage to Criminal: Defied. A'den and Omega suspect him of helping the government they're there to overthrow, but he turns out to be keeping quiet, and never leaks any info.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: He deserts entirely because he gets a snatch of normal life watching Gaftikaar and realizes what he's missing.
  • Pop-Cultured Badass: He has a stack of holovids in his home that suggest he's been trying to acquaint himself with popular culture.

Other Clones

    Yayax Squad

Cov, Dev, Jind, Yover

Appearances: Republic Commando Series (Order 66, 501st)

  • Call to Agriculture: After the Clone Wars, they retire to become farmers. They have to learn farming from a manual but are cool with it.
  • Official Couple: Cov and Ruusan.

    Levet

Levet (CC-3388/0021)

  • Call to Agriculture: After the Clone Wars, they retire to become farmers. They have to learn farming from a manual but are cool with it.
  • Commanding Coolness
  • The Confidant: Discovers that Etain is pregnant but has the discretion to keep it quiet
  • More than Meets the Eye: On top of keeping quiet about Etain, he knows Mando'a well enough to say she's pregnant, which is impressive considering the regular clones aren't taught by Mandalorians and get most of their vocabulary from swearwords.

Mandalorians

Allies

    Kal Skirata

Falin Mattrin/Kal Skirata

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kal_skirata_swleu_2112.jpg

Species: Human

Homeworld: Kuat

Appearances: Omega Squad: Targets | Republic Commando Series | Odds

  • Almighty Janitor: The first day of the Clone Wars, he's technically a civilian, but is the only one who can get the Null ARCs to calm down and informally has the ear of a hundred commandos. The same day, he gets recruited to the Republic Army as a sergeant, and given the role of special consultant for Special Operations, allowing him to shape policy or decision-making however he wants.
  • A Father to His Men: You can say lots of things about him, but in the present day he loves the heck out of all his "sons" and lets them know it.
  • Berserk Button: Saying anything disparaging about clones in front of him is a very bad idea.
    • He'll also take any opportunity to rant about the Jedi, even though without the Jedi his sons wouldn't exist, and the Mandalorians have just as much a history of messing up the galaxy.
  • Byronic Hero: Possibly the best descriptor of him. He's one of the few people working to give the Clone Army anything resembling a healthy lifestyle, giving all of his time, money, and love to them and being loved in return. But he's also a low-grade alcoholic, has done a number of shifty things as a mercenary, calls the Jedi "baby snatchers" though they do no such thing, and does several more polarizing things over the course of the series.
  • Catchphrase: Count how many times he says "son". We dare you.
  • Child Soldier: Mandalorian training starts at age eight. It also typically involves going on campaign with your father, although it's unspecified to what extent you participate. Kal, for his part, was thought so tough by his father that he started training when he was seven.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: His armor is gold, symbolizing vengeance in Mandalorian culture.
  • Comic-Book Fantasy Casting: Robert Hendrickson's illustrations of Kal in the Star Wars Insider short stories are based on the appearance of Ed Harris.
  • Cool Old Guy: YMMV on his opinions. However the clones certainly see him as such.
  • Cultural Posturing: Loves to tout the Mandalorians as better than the Jedi, even though both of them take kids into their group and teach a semi-ascetic lifestyle. It seems more an extension for his dislike of the Republic than a sincere belief.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: When he was seven, he and his biological parents moved to Surcaris for work, but a war flared up and they were killed in a bombing. He was eventually found by Munin Skirata, a Mandalorian merc that came to Surcaris to fight in the war, and was adopted into the Mandalorians.
    • The drama of his marriage and biological kids are also a rough spot.
  • The Determinator: Keeps putting off having surgery on his shattered ankle because he thinks taking care of his sons is more important. To the point he shoots up painkillers so he can accompany the clones on a raid so he doesn't feel guilty about leaving them in the lurch.
  • Dramatically Missing the Point: He thinks Palpatine is evil, but not because he might be a Sith, but because he's a politician.
  • Handicapped Badass: He doesn't let the shattered ankle slow him down one bit.
  • Happily Adopted: By Munin Skirata, the Mandalorian mercenary that found and adopted him after his parents died in a war.
    • This is also the relationship with the Nulls, whom he raised from the time they were two. There's zero awkwardness about it, and they're all proud to have each other.
  • The Hero: He's the first non-clone POV, and while he's got his issues, his plot and convictions make up the heart of the series.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: If something bad happens to someone he cares about, rest assured he'll find a way to blame himself for it.
    • An example: In True Colors, it's mentioned he's lost five out of his 100 commandos in the war, and while it's the second-lowest number of all the commando trainers (the lowest is three) and there were a number of strategic clustercusses under early Jedi leadership, he still feels he could've avoided it if he'd trained them better.
  • Jerkass Has a Point:
    • Is irritating, but often has a point in his criticisms of the Prequel Jedi Order. Amongst other things, he thinks letting the Long-Lived Yoda lead the Order for so long has made them lose touch with reality, that the "no attachments" rule is stupid, and that only letting kids raised from childbirth be Jedi is ridiculous - all things the New Jedi Order and Luke Skywalker himself will prove right down the road.
  • Let's Fight Like Gentlemen: Defied. Jango Fett called him "the dirtiest fighter I've ever seen." He taught Omega how to fight if they were caught in the shower, and Darman thinks he's had firsthand experience.
  • Manly Tears: Moreso in the later books, when there's more to be sad about.
    • In True Colors, Omega remembers that when he had to do limited torture endurance training, he threw up and even cried a little when he thought he was out of sight.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • A kal (칼) is type of Korean knife/sword.
    • "Kal" also means "knife" in Mandalorian.
    • All of his "kids" are named for something in Mando'a or a legendary Mandalorian.
  • Meaningful Rename: His birth name, we find out in Order 66 was Falin Mattran. When he was adopted at age seven, his father renamed him to Kal because Kal had just attacked him with one and was good with it.
  • My Greatest Failure: Getting married without considering whether his wife wanted to raise their kids Mandalorian, then letting his marriage fall apart out of negligence, which led to drifting apart from his kids and them formally divorcing him under the Mandalorian custom. The only Mandalorian custom they ever observed.
    • In contemporary times, he also once accidentally killed one of his trainees during a live-fire exercise and will never forgive himself for it.
    • His commando losses mentioned above also weigh on him.
  • The Napoleon: Shorter than average, and particularly shorter than the clones who are all the same height. This doesn't make him one whit less intimidating.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: Holds a rank in the Grand Army of the Republic, but he's in it for his sons, and is quite critical of the Republic as an institution.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: He worries about this frequently. Particularly, since the clones have accelerated aging, and he's only sixty, he'll see them all die in his 90's unless he finds a way to turn their aging off.
  • Papa Wolf: The whole reason the child Null Arcs weren't tossed in a garbage disposal for being "defective product".
  • Parents as People: Often, but especially during his failed marriage. Like many dads, he thought financial support was the most important thing he could provide. He was not prepared for the Culture Clash he and his wife would have about raising them Mandalorian.
  • Parental Neglect: A large reason his first wife and biological sons disowned him. He was too busy fighting other people's wars as a mercenary.
  • Parental Substitute: He trained 100 clone commandos from childhood including Omega Squad (minus Atin), and raised and trained the Null ARCs from the time they were two. In Order 66, it's shown that he calls each of his squads once a month and remembers their issues and habits.
  • Prefers Rocks to Pillows: The first night he met the Nulls, he didn't know if the Kaminoans were going to try to take them away, so he let them have the bed and slept in the chair facing the door. Ever since, he's refused to sleep in a bed to remind himself of the discomforts suffered by the clones. That said, he still sleeps in an armchair.
  • Proud Warrior Race Guy: Very proud. Deconstructed Trope on occasion. Amongst other things, his loyalty to Mandalore itself is pretty conditional.
  • Sergeant Rock: Is this combined with Team Dad. Most relevantly, he trained a lot of the commandos with all the PT, yelling, and unpleasantness you'd expect, if not more. In the present day it's still the core of his leadership style.
  • The "I Love You" Stigma: In a platonic context. But averted. For such a stern and macho setting, he never encounters this, telling his boys he loves them from the start and saying it frequently. Although considering they don't have parents and he's one of their only sources of love, he probably can't be stingy with it...
  • Tough Love: That said, he was a frequent practicer of this in his role as their trainer, making them crawl through trenches full of nerf (i.e. cow) guts, roughing them up during combat, and even sanctioning limited torture on them during interrogation resistance training. Although Omega recalls he threw up afterwards.
  • Tragic Keepsake: He has a three-sided knife on him at all times, and uses it on occasion. It was his deceased biological father's, and was what he used to survive up 'til he met his adoptive father. It's also what inspired his renaming.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Darman gives him a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown to him when he learns that Kal lied to him about Etain being pregnant, putting her and their unborn baby at risk.

    Walon Vau

Sergeant Walon Vau

Species: Human

Homeworld: Irmenu

One of the seventy-five Mandalorian sergeants of the Cuy'val Dar.

  • Abusive Parents: Vau's father beat his ass. He would in turn beat his commando trainees severely.
  • The Blank: Etain notes that he always feels calm in the Force, even when he's shoving a vibroblade down someone's gullet.
  • Cool Old Guy: YMMV. He's a nasty piece of work with a skewed moral outlook, but he does care about his men.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: His armor is black, symbolizing justice.
  • Cultured Badass: Came from an insanely rich family. He hated it and ran away to become a Mandalorian.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: Good heavens, yes. He holds up cruelty as the only way to save his men. Atin hates him enough that he tried to kill him twice. That this mindset is probably the result of his own abusive father is something he ignores.
  • Defector from Decadence: He grew up the son of an Irmenu aristocrat, but hated his dad so much he left to join the navy, and eventually the Mandalorians.
  • Morality Pet: Lord Mirdalan, his pet strill.

    Mij Gilamar

Mij Gilamar

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mij_gilamar.jpg

One of the seventy-five Mandalorian sergeants of the Cuy'val Dar.

  • Best Served Cold: His wife was killed by another man long ago. He hasn't avenged her yet, but he knows the man's name, and when he meets him he's going to use his surgical skills on him.
  • Combat Medic: Primarily a medic. Then Dred Priest started running his mouth...
  • The Lost Lenore: Married into the Mandalorian way and then lost his wife to some chakaar.

    Rav Bralor

Rav Bralor

Species: Human

One of the seventy-five Mandalorian sergeants of the Cuy'val Dar. One of the squads she trained was Yayax Squad.

    Parja Bralor

Parja Bralor

Species: Human

Rav's niece. She takes over the care of Fi when he arrives on Mandalore, and helps get him back to full health.

  • Meaningful Name: Her name is derived from the Mando'a word parji, meaning "victory"note
  • Wrench Wench: Menchanic by trade.

    Wad'e Tay'haai

Wad'e Tay'haai

One of the seventy-five Mandalorian sergeants of the Cuy'val Dar.

    Fenn Shysa

Fenn Shysa

Species: Human

Homeworld: Mandalore

  • Mythology Gag: On the receiving end of this. Star Wars Rebels character Fenn Rau, a Mandalorian who trained also trained Clone Troopers, is named for him.

Enemies

    Ghez Hokan

Ghez Hokan

  • Ambiguously Related: He shares his clan name with Jun Hokan, a Mandalorian merc that accompanied Munin to Surcaris in Kal's backstory.
  • The Dreaded: Subverted. At story’s start he’s identified as someone who “got let go by Death Watch for enjoying his work a little too much”. But when encountered, he turns out to be a pretty straightforward gun-for-hire who just caused too many casualties one time.
  • Off with His Head!: He gets decapitated by Etain.
  • One-Steve Limit: Traviss would later introduce a Mandalorian named Ghes Orade in Legacy of the Force. It would be reasonable to assume Ghes/Ghez is not an uncommon name among Mandalorians.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Wears black-grey armor with red highlights. Fi takes it off him after he dies and keeps it as a trophy/spare set.

    Ko Sai

Ko Sai

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ko_sai.jpg
Appears in: Republic Commando Series

”You don't understand. When our planet flooded, we survived because we were willing to eliminate anything that didn't make us stronger.”

The head of the Kaminoan cloning program, and their most accomplished geneticist. She spearheaded the development of the Grand Army of the Republic and takes great pride in the results. However, she's also a cold-hearted witch who almost killed the Nulls for not meeting domesticity standards. Sometime after the Clone Wars started, she took all of her research and absconded from Kamino. Tracking her down is a big part of True Colors, as they need her expertise if they want to stop the clones' aging.

  • Arch-Enemy: To the Nulls. None of them will forget how she ordered them deleted as children, and it's made worse by the fact that she's the closest they have to a mother.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Her motivation. When Kamino flooded ages ago, its people survived by breeding out weakness. She's simply doing more of the same.
  • Combat Pragmatist: She doesn't like most species or Mandalorians, but has no problem hiring Mandalorians to guard her hideout.
  • Driven to Suicide: After Ordo tricks her into thinking he's destroyed her research, she conducts one last experiment and then hangs herself in her cell. This provides a major setback to Skirata, who didn't anticipate this at all.
  • Insufferable Genius: Still wears the cuffs that denote her as head Kaminoan scientist even when she's been in hiding for years.
  • Evil Matriarch: Not motherly at all, but is seen as such by the Nulls.
  • Holier Than Thou: She considers the Mandos and Nulls as barely-sentient dogs and failed experiments, respectively.
  • A Nazi by Any Other Name: A different angle from the normal Star Wars take; she's obsessed with genetic perfection and uses a scientific background to enforce this belief, not hesitating to delete inferior strains when faced with them. The coldness of it screams, "Nazi."
  • Living MacGuffin: Normally, the Nulls could just hack the Kaminoan databases for cloning data. But when she left Kamino, she took all of her considerable research with her, likely including what they need.

    Dred Priest

Dred Priest

Species: Human

Appears in: Republic Commando Series

"The strong survive, the weak die. That's the way the galaxy works. The day we forgot that, we became everyone's lackey."

One of the seventy-five Mandalorian sergeants of the Cuy'val Dar. After their service on Kamino, he and Isabet Reau joined Death Watch.

  • Blood Knight: He'd make his trainees fight each other for entertainment. Jango beat him up for it.
  • A Nazi by Any Other Name: A Neo-Nazi variant. A warrior who flaunts the old symbol of the regime, believes things were better for his people back then, and thinks that restoring the old empire is what they're entitled to. This characterization notably made it into The Clone Wars, as Pre Vizsla is coded the same way.
  • Never Found the Body: Kal and Mij kill him, then toss his body in a nearby river to delay Reau's wrath if she finds his corpse.
  • The Quisling: He and Reau were seen helping establish the local Imperial garrison on Mandalore.
  • Those Two Guys: With fellow Cuy'val Dar sergeant Isabet Reau.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Since the series didn't properly conclude, we don't get to see Reau's reaction to Dred's death.

Others

    Munin Skirata

Munin Skirata

Species: Human

Appearances: Republic Commando Series (flashback only)

Kal Skirata's late adoptive father. He was a Mandalorian mercenary who came to fight in the war on Surcaris and met a young, orphaned Kal.

    Ilippi Jiro

Ilippi Skirata née Jiro

Species: Human (Corellian)

Homeworld: Corellia

Kal's ex-wife and the mother of his three children.

  • Housewife: Kal wanted her to be what a Mandalorian wife was, that is, take care of the kids and prepare them to be warriors. Unfortunately, leaving the family in an isolated Mandalorian town did not mean she would be accepted by them and absorb their values, but was instead meant their family would be seen as outsiders, and she never did accept the Mandalorian mindset.
  • Never Got to Say Goodbye: Kal was busy serving in the Cuy'val Dar when Ilippi fell deathly ill. Their kids tried to contact him, but because of the top-secret nature of what he was involved in, he couldn't tell them why he couldn't come back to them. This was the final straw for his two sons, who cut him off indefinitely... until the events of Order 66, anyways.

    Tor and Ijaat Skirata

Tor Skirata, Ijaat Skirata

Species: Human (half Corellian, half Kuatian)

Homeworld: Corellia

Appears in: Republic Commando Series (Order 66)

Kal and Ilippi's two sons.

  • Child Soldier: What Kal wanted them to be, but this led to Ilippi divorcing him and taking the kids back to her home on Corellia.
  • The Ghost: They're only mentioned until Tor finally appears in a holocall to Kal in Order 66.
  • I Have No Son!: They disowned their father for his treatment of Ilippi and having nothing to do with them. However, two decades later, when Tor calls Kal in Order 66 to ask for his help in finding the missing Ruusan, he tells him that he and Ijaat are sorry, and wish things had been different.
  • Ironic Name: Kal named Tor for the Mando'a word for "justice" and Ijaat for the Mando'a word for "honor". Against Kal's desires, neither of them ended up wanting anything to do with him or the Mandalorians.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Tor is implied to realize this about Kal towards Ordo when the latter calls the former, buir, which he knows is Mandalorian for "father".

    Arla Fett

Arla Fett

Species: Human

Homeworld: Concord Dawn

Jango's older sister. During the Mandalorian Civil War, an attack on the Fett homestead by Death Watch resulted in the death of her parents, the disappearance (and subsequent adoption by Jaster Mereel) of her brother, and her abduction by Death Watch.

  • Ambiguously Brown: In Open Seasons, she and her mother appear to be blonde Caucasians, though she may be biracial since Jango is obviously depicted by a Maori actor and he seems to get his looks from his father. Lampshaded in Imperial Commando, where it's described how she doesn't look like she’d be Jango's sister.
  • Ascended Extra: In Open Seasons, she was barely seen and wasn't even given a name.
  • Harmful to Minors: She was a child, only barely older than Jango, when Death Watch came to their home and killed their parents. She gets kidnapped by Death Watch and the Fett siblings never see each other again.
  • Identity Amnesia: According to Word of God, the sequel to Imperial Commando: 501st would've had her accept Bardan's offer to wipe her mind to forget the pain that Death Watch inflicted on her, but her identity gets wiped as well.
  • Never Got to Say Goodbye: She eventually found out Jango was alive, but she made no attempts to reach out to him before his death.
  • Sole Survivor: As Jango dies in Attack of the Clones, she is the only remaining member of her immediate family.
  • Stockholm Syndrome: After spending much time with Death Watch, she began to sympathize with them during her time as an assassin for them, but after being separated from them, she begins to regret having become attached to her kidnappers and the things she had done for them.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: It is unknown what happens to her after the series and if she ever met her nephew. Though given that Arla chooses to forget who she is and Boba has never bothered to learn about Jango's family as far as we know, the chances of them meeting are unfortunately pretty low.

Jedi

    Etain Tur-Mukan

Etain Tur-Mukan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/etain_tur_mukan_rc_tv_tropes.jpg

Species: Human

A Jedi Knight.

  • Action Girl: Subverted. She was never an especially talented padawan and was not prepared to become a military commander, much to Darman's disappointment. She gets better.
  • Action Mom: Crushingly averted. She gives birth but dies before really getting to raise her son.
  • Dual Wielding: After "Hard Contact". The lady is fierce with her and her old master's lightsabers.
  • Killed Off for Real: During Order 66, by a fellow Jedi no less.
  • Combat Pragmatist: She takes to wearing armor with her robes, and unlike other Jedi, starts carrying a concussion rifle into battle in addition to her lightsabers.
  • Meaningful Name: Étaín is a heroic female figure in Irish mythology. It also means "passion, jealousy".
  • Official Couple: With Darman.
  • Pregnant Badass: For a time, fighting in the field.

    Bardan Jusik

Bardan Jusik

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bardan_jusik.jpg

A Jedi Knight and pilot. Bardan starts out as a reliable connect for Team Skirata, sharing their love of risk-taking and technology. Eventually, he ends up leaving the Jedi Order and being adopted by Skirata, becoming a full Mandalorian. He continues to wield his green lightsaber.

  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: His Mandalorian armor is green, which symbolizes duty. It's also coincidentally the color of his lightsaber.
  • Drives Like Crazy: To the point Ordo thinks they're both going to die.
  • Dual Wielding: After becoming a Mando, he wields his lightsaber in one hand and a blaster in the other.
  • Going Native: Is explicitly described as this. Exposure to Skirata and the Nulls and commandos has him more at home than ever, and he eventually becomes one of them.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: It's also shown that his defecting has to do with his friendships with Omega and the Nulls, Skirata, in particular, being a father figure.

    Arligan Zey

Arligan Zey

Species: Human

Appears in: Republic Commando Series | Oddsnote

"I was raised to believe I was a soldier for the light, defender of the oppressed, a righter of wrongs."

A Jedi Master, Zey starts the series as head of Special Operations for the Grand Army of the Republic. Thrown into the war, he is unprepared for the job but adapts quickly, knowing when to wield authority and when to look the other way. He enjoys a close relationship with Skirata and co, but is very unaware of the extent of their activities.

  • Heel Realization: After hearing some of Skirata's arguments, he starts to consider whether the Jedi might have lost their way. Unfortunately, running a war has left him unable to really parse that out.
  • Plausible Deniability: One of his great talents. In Triple Zero, he gives Skirata permission to run a black-ops operation on Coruscant, recruit two commando squads, authorizes leave for a bunch of clones to mask their presence, agrees to bill the Republic for it, and gives them carte blanche to do whatever, all without explicitly saying so. If the plan goes south, it won't be on him.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: While more Jedi than Skirata would like, he's very good at managing Special Ops, managing to reign in the Commandos' worst impulses while letting them be their best selves. When Bardan - his former Padawan - chooses to leave the Order, he lets him keep his lightsaber, reasoning that "you built it, you keep it."

    Kina Ha

Kina Ha

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kina_ha_rc_tv_tropes.jpg

Species: Kaminoan

Having been genetically altered by Kaminoan scientists to survive long hyperspace journeys, this project was never carried out. As a side-effect of these alterations, she became Force-sensitive. Being ostracized by her people for lacking a purpose and being imperfect for being Force-sensitive, she left Kamino and was trained by rogue Jedi Master Kras'dokh. After Order 66, she sought refuge on Mandalore but later joined the Altisian Jedi.

    Scout

Tallisibeth "Scout" Enwandung-Esterhazy

See her entry on the Star Wars – Rise of the Empire Era: Jedi Order character page.

Allies & Spouses

    Besany Wennen

Agent Besany Wennen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/besany_wennen_essential_readers_tv_tropes.jpg

Species: Human

An agent of the Republic Treasury Audit Division. She worked closely with the clones and believed that they were being used as a "slave army" by the Republic. She and Ordo fell in love with each other.

    Laseema

Laseema

A Twi'lek waitress at Qibbu the Hutt's restaurant who gets adopted by the Skirata clan. Skirata later gets her a job at the Kragget and buys the apartment above it for her and Clan Skirata to live in. She ends up starting a relationship with Atin.

  • Action Girl: When a customer at the Kragget gets lippy, she pulls a knife and almost impales his hand.
  • Covert Pervert: Apparently sends interesting messages to Atin in the field.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Apparently Twi'lek girls like her often end up working physically demeaning jobs of one kind or another.
Laseema:New mothers worry about everything. I mean, I don't know firsthand, but they say my sister did.
    • Etain notes that she wears long-sleeved sweaters at the Kragget, probably because she's never gotten to dress like that before.
  • Interspecies Romance: With Atin. It's noted that they won't be able to have kids biologically, but since adoption is common for Mandos, this isn't a problem.

    Others

Jaller Obrim

A former member of the Senate Guard and now chief of the Coruscant Security Force, Jaller Obrim is the quintessential Da Chief and a close friend of Skirata after they work together in Triple Zero.

  • Action Dad: Has a couple of older kids.
  • Birds of a Feather: He and Skirata are both highly experienced military men who understand the limitations of the system they're in.
  • The Confidant: Often gets breakfast with Skirata and helps him plan his next move.
  • Friend on the Force: An essential one. Obrim is what allows Skirata and co to operate on Coruscant for so long so effectively.
  • Happily Married: His wife is just as on the level as he is, and unhesitatingly takes care of Besany and Laseema in Order 66.
  • Simple, yet Opulent: He lives in a relatively modest multi-story apartment. Skirata notes that as police chief, he probably has a few enemies and picks someplace quiet to avoid undue attention.

Ovolot Qail Uthan

A scientist recruited at the start of the Clone Wars to design a clone-specific virus.

  • Evilutionary Biologist: Her whole shtick developing nano-viruses.
  • The Bus Came Back: After being the one-off villain of Hard Contact alongside Ghez Hokan, she returns in Order 66 as someone who could help the clones fix their aging. She then becomes a viewpoint character in 501st.
  • Nothing Personal: Finds the Republic unethical and works for the Separatists because of it, but doesn't have anything against its individual soldiers.
  • Pet the Dog: Befriends the Jedi Padawan scout in 501st and strikes up a friendship with Mij Gilamar.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: When she's no longer getting paid to try to kill the clones, she's friendly and almost apologetic.

Nyreen Vollen

Species: Human

An older smuggler friend of Null ARC A'den that helps transport refugees of the Clone Wars and deserters of the Republic Army.

Ruusaan "Ruu" Skirata

Species: Human

Homeworld: Corellia

The only daughter of Kal and Ilippi's three children. While her mother and siblings are estranged from her father, Ruusaan reached out to him.

  • Action Girl: When they come to rescue her in disguise, she resists hard enough to give two ARC troopers a hard time.
  • Black Sheep: While her brothers and mom lived a conventional life, Ruu followed her dad into a military life. While it's unclear if she was a mercenary or just a straightforward soldier, she can fight and she fits into military life very well.
  • Missing Child: She went missing a few months before Order 66, having drifted away from her brothers, her apartment being empty, and having nothing on her record.
  • Noodle Incident: Was fighting for the Separatists when she was apprehended by the GAR.
  • Official Couple: With Cov.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Unleashes a tirade of profanity on her rescuers before they reveal themselves.
