Carmen and Juni's dad, Ingrid's husband and younger brother to Machete, Gregorio starts off as a Reluctant Retiree but returns to his badass ways when his children become spies.

  • Annoying Younger Sibling: It's possible that, like how Carmen viewed Juni, this was how his older brother saw him, even in their adulthood.
  • The Atoner: Gregorio hid the Third Brain to prevent the hard work of the OSS from going to waste.
  • Bumbling Dad: Pretends to be this after retiring.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: When it looked like Donagan was going to kill Ingrid's parents, he jumped out in front of them to save them. Donagan failed, thanks to his daughter, but this act was enough to get Gregorio's mother-in-law's attention.

    Ingrid

Ingrid Cortez

  • Action Mom: Being a mother to Carmen and Juni hasn’t slowed her down.
  • Expy: Pre-emptive; her backstory is similar to that of Mrs. Smith...as well as her husband being that of Mr. Smith.
  • Happily Married: Despite being initially sent on a mission to kill her future husband (and vice versa), they eventually get married.
  • Parents in Distress: She, along with her husband, are captured in the beginning.

Appearances: Spy Kids | Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams | Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over

Gregorio's older brother who stopped speaking to his brother years ago. He is a skilled inventor, having created countless gadgets for the OSS. Upon meeting Carmen and Juni, Machete agrees to reunite with his brother and becomes the Gadgeteer Genius for the kids.

  • Aloof Big Brother: He refused to help out his younger brother, especially since his niece and nephew were left without their parents. However, he does grow out of this behavior at the climax. When he initially refuses to help save Gregorio, he repeats the same dialogue Carmen said when being told to watch over her brother.
  • Cool Uncle: Machete is a gruff Gadgeteer Genius. While he tells the kids that he's not helping rescue their parents, he does show them around his workshop, gives them a place to stay and a meal, while brushing off Carmen's assertions that he does care more about family than about money. There is also him coming in the climax to rescue his family. In the second movie, he’s making inventions for his niece and nephew and supports their spy careers.

    Grandpa

Grandpa Valentin Avellan

Played By: Ricardo Montalbán Foreign VAs

Appearances: Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams | Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over

Ingrid's father and the beloved grandfather of Carmen and Juni. He and the Toymaker were once friends until an incident caused by the Toymaker led to Valentin's confinement to a wheelchair. Now a Handicapped Badass, Valentin offers comforting but blunt advice to his family. He plays a major role in Spy Kids 3D when an opportunity to reunite with the Toymaker presents itself.

  • Ascended Extra: He's a secondary character in the second film, but in the third film he has a much larger role since Juni invites him into the game.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Subverted in the third film, where shortly after being introduced with a new mech body, he goes off after a butterfly... but the butterfly turns out to be more important than it first appears.
  • Dashing Hispanic: Well, he is played by Ricardo Montalban.

  • Never Mess with Granny: She was a former spy, has a jetpack hidden under her clothes and helps fight giant robots in the third film.

  • Ungrateful Bastard: Downplayed. Shows nothing but a mild form of contempt for Gregorio.

    Felix

Felix Gumm

Played By: Cheech Marin Foreign VAs

Appearances: Spy Kids | Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams | Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over

While not an actual member of the Cortez family, he is considered one and treated like an uncle. Carmen and Juni refer to him as "Uncle Felix" since he pretended to be their uncle, leading to a Running Gag where he reminds him of the truth.

  • Cool Uncle: Even though Felix isn't their uncle, he does act like one. He comes to babysit the kids with grocery bags full of caramel corn, and lets them stay up late to watch movies on a school night. It's no surprise the kids adore him and are distressed when the Thumb-Thumbs capture him.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Forced to betray the Cortezes by Donnegan to be spared from death. He survives, is forgiven and rejoins the family.
  • Honorary Uncle: Their real uncle is Machete.
  • Running Gag: Felix continuously reminds Carmen and Juni he is not their uncle. This is thrown out the window when he claims he is their uncle when called to help in the third film finale.
  • Secret-Keeper: Protected Gregorio and Ingrid's secret from their children until he was forced to tell them.

Antagonists

    Fegan Floop

Fegan Floop

Played By: Alan Cumming Foreign VAs

Unfortunately, his technology has got him involved in the wrong crowd. Uninterested in the evil schemes his clients have, Floop wishes to bring fun and happiness to children.

  • Affably Evil: So much so that eventually he crosses the line into a good character; what he really wants is to entertain children with his show.
  • Alliterative Name: Fegan Floop.
  • Out of Focus: He makes a few appearances in the second film.
  • Rebuilt Pedestal: Becomes this to Juni. After his Broken Pedestal speech, calling him out for the villainous deeds in the movie, it turned out he was only working for the actual Big Bad and Floop's main concern was to keep his show live.
  • Villain Song: "Dream My Dream" - Although it is actually a promotional song for his show.

    Alexander Minion

Alexander Minion

Played By: Tony Shalhoub Foreign VAs

Appearances: Spy Kids | Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams | Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over

Assistant to Floop, Minion seems to be the obedient and loyal servant any well-intentioned megalomaniac hopes for. Actually a former scientist in the OSS who helped make the Third Brain. He overthrows Floop with the intention on using the brain to power his evil army of robotic children.

  • Out of Focus: He makes a few appearances in the second film.
  • Vocal Evolution: After the mutation machine is used on him, he ends up having a higher-pitched voice alongside the four heads. The second film onwards has his voice back to normal, even though the rest of him isn't.

  • Actor Allusion: Lisp wants an army of Killer Robots? Huh?
  • Adults Are Useless: Carmen and Juni managed to outsmart Ms. Gradenko during their first encounter.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: While Lisp is the true villain of the first film, Minion is far more active and they have similar levels of authority in the grand scheme of things.
  • Child Hater: Ms. Gradenko, justified as her encounter with Carmen and Juni left her semi bald save for a few strands.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Lisp has a son, who Floop makes a robot duplicate of. Floop surprise attacks Lisp with said duplicate (without revealing he's a duplicate) as part of the demonstration, leading to him hesitating and letting his guard down because he refuses to hurt his son.
  • For the Evulz: Ms. Gradenko’s motivations for turning against the OSS are never explained.

  • Bald of Evil: His head is shaved bald and is the second film's main villain.
  • Big Bad: The main antagonist of the second film.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Look closely at his photograph in the first film and you'll see his original name was Michael Donnagon.
  • Easily Forgiven: Allowed to continue working at the OSS as a mere technician by the third film, a pretty light "punishment" for somebody who tried to kill the Cortezes.
  • For the Evulz: His motivations in the second film are never explained, nor his need to kill the entire Cortez family, so one might assume his scheme boils down to this.
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: Gertie implies it is not the first time he has tried to conquer the world.
  • Heel–Face Turn: By the time the third film rolls around, he works as a technician at the OSS.
  • Henpecked Husband: He reacts with horror when Gertie says she's going to tell his wife that he tried to take over the world again. When said wife appears in the third film, he is much better behaved.
  • Karma Houdini: Despite being fired from the OSS by the President of the United States himself, Donnagon somehow ends up back in the organization in the third film, now working as a technician alongside his wife. It's handwaved that said wife is keeping a closer eye on him after the events of the second film.
  • Large Ham: He has an excitable personality, especially when he's talking to the Cortezes.
  • Meaningful Name: He really makes his last name make sense with his giggling in the second film. His kids also share this habit.
  • Mr. Exposition: In the third film, he and Francesca fill Juni in with important information about Game Over and why it needs to be shut down.
  • Retcon: His original name was Micheal Donnagon as noted above.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: It can be easy to miss, but he's one of the Fooglies in the first movie. He repays the Cortezes for rescuing him and changing him back by trying to take over the world and kill them.

Appearances: Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams | Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over

Carmen and Juni's rivals in the Spy Kids division and Donnagon's children. Gary is the bad boy of the division, being a bit of a Jerkass but seems to like Carmen. Gertie is mischievous but the more reasonable and brainy of the two.

  • Foreshadowing: Gertie tells Juni that everyone he knows is his family, leading to the mass Back for the Finale cast gathering in the third film.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Gertie has pigtails which allow her to fly.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Gertie at first, and Gary by the end of the film, since it turns out he was just keeping up the whole bad boy routine.
  • Jerkass: Gary, although this is subverted to Jerk with a Heart of Gold.
  • Ship Tease: Between Carmen and Gary, although Juni and Gertie seem to have a bit of a bond in the third film.
  • Signature Laugh: At first it seems that Gertie Giggle is the one doing a high-pitched giggle, one that Juni earlier used to hack into their voice activated database. However, it turns out that giggle belongs to Gary who shares the trait with his father Donnagon, making him a Giggling Villain.
  • The Starscream: At the last second, Gertie betrays her father by purposefully not programming the disk correctly.

  • The Determinator: He is always looking for crazy new ideas for his theme park. In a post-credits scene of the second film, he even rowed all the way to Romero's island in an attempt to partner with him.
  • Ditzy Genius: Even though he's definitely on the edge, he's still somehow smart enough to keep his park within safety guidelines.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: By letting Alexandra ride the Juggler, he unknowingly sets off a significant chain of events, including a massive panic when the minature Transmooker is eventually taken.

    Alexandra

Alexandra

Played By: Taylor Momsen Foreign VAs

Appearances: Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams

The daughter of the President of the United States, whom Juni secretly has a crush on.

  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Alexandra didn't return for the third film and she is not even mentioned at all.
  • Daddy Didn't Show: Downplayed. Alexandra is disappointed that her father didn't come to the Troublemaker theme park with her, due to his duties as the President of the United States, and deliberately sabotages a ride called "The Juggler" in an attempt to get his attention for once.
Park Public Relations: Hello, Alexandra. Where's your father?
Alexandra: He will be here. I will make sure of it.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She has blonde hair and is very nice to Juni.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Alexandra wears a pink sweater and then a pink dress.
  • Sarcasm Mode: She sarcastically yawns while Dinky Winks is giving her a tour around his theme park.
  • Stepford Smiler: Alexandra gives a smile when asked if her father was coming to the theme park, to which she replies "yes", but her positive mood changes to a discreetly disillusioned one after assuring she "would make sure of it".

    Francesca Giggles

Francesca Giggles

Played By: Salma Hayek

Appearances: Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over

Donnagon Giggles' wife, who was mentioned in the second film before appearing in the third film.

  • Mrs. Exposition: In the third film, she and Donnagon fill Juni in with important information about Game Over and why it needs to be shut down.
  • The Redeemer: She is the one who ultimately brought Donnagon to the side of good. It's also implied she had some part in redeeming Gary and Gertie as well.
  • Team Mom: She clearly wants to raise a good family, something that was definitely easier said than done at first.

    Arnold, Francis, and Rez

Arnold, Francis, Rez

Played By: Bobby Edner (Francis), Ryan Pinkston (Arnold), and Robert Vito (Rez) Foreign VAs

Appearances: Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over

Three beta-testers for the Toymaker's new game, they initially give Juni a hard time due to his nature as a newbie. They become somewhat more willing to deal with him after they believe he is "The Guy", a player who will lead them all to the grand prize at the end.

  • Blatant Lies: Rez assuring Juni, before the race starts, that they'll "try" to help him out as much as they can while giving him a smug smile.
  • I'm Not a Hero, I'm...: Turns out their signature characterizations were only their in-game personas.
Juni: Hey, wait a second. What happened to Francis the Brain, Arnold the Strong, and Mister Cool?
Francis: Well, in the real world, I'm not that smart.
    Arnold: I'm not strong.
    Rez: I'm not cool.
    Juni: Whoa, reality check!
  • It's All About Me: These guys only care about reaching Level 5 (to win the so-called prize) and make sure they have no competition with other players, namely Juni, ignoring the fact that the Toymaker intended to have them stay in the game for all eternity. It isn't until Demetra's reveal as the Deceiver and the Toymaker making this announcement that they have a change of heart. Fortunately, they are actually nice in the real world.
  • Jerkass: To varying degrees. They basically treat Juni with immense contempt, barely believing at first that he could be "The Guy", and trying to initially get rid of him because they believe he's an obstacle to the prize. They only improve somewhat after he proves his mettle.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: They did have a good reason to get rid of Juni's illegitimate bonus packs because using them would lead to an immediate Game Over.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: They do leave the game on good terms with Carmen and Juni and are noticeably nicer in the real world.
  • Kick the Dog: As the game doesn't have any rules (except "win at any cost" of course), the trio take pleasure in making Juni's journey very hard, from Francis throwing him into a manhole just because Juni mistook him for a toad on a pogo stick, to Rez tricking him into destroying his own race car and using his foot to get Juni off of his car, and Arnold threatening to smash him into pieces if he fails to prove he is the Guy, which he isn't.
  • Mean Character, Nice Actor: Their jerkassery is a prominent part of their in-game personas, even while believing Juni is "the Guy" who will lead them to victory. In the real world, they are shown to be rather decent and are visibly impressed upon finding out Juni is a special agent for the OSS.
  • Mirror Character: Rez's hostility towards Juni, crush on Carmen, and overall "bad boy" vibe shows many similarities to Gary Giggles from the second film. Downplayed in that it’s only a part of Rez's in-game persona.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite their petty behavior towards Juni, they had some of this moments with Juni. Arnold telling Juni to take the boxing glove off of Rez's car, then vowing (while believing that he's the Guy) to protect him. Also, Francis comforts a saddened Juni after Demetra gets a Game Over.
  • Smug Snake: Rez is very overconfident and a much of a cheat this in the game.

Alternative Title(s): Spy Kids 1, Spy Kids 3 D Game Over, Spy Kids 2 Island Of Lost Dreams
