The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie
King Neptune

The ruler of the sea, whose crown is his prize possession and holds his symbol of authority over all his undersea kingdom. While he has a completely different design and voice from the series, Word of God has said that they consider him interchangeable with the main series Neptune.
- Adaptational Jerkass: The series' Neptune, while still a Jerkass, is pretty affable and a far more understanding monarch, isn't as possessive towards his belongings, and treats his subjects far more pleasantly. This Neptune, by contrast, is a tyrannical, punishment-obsessed, and ill-tempered king (compared to his more compassionate daughter, Mindy). He tends to freak out and overreact over the slightest wrongdoings and considers himself Judge, Jury, and Executioner; he refuses to believe Mr. Krabs when he maintains his innocence and is eager to fry him on the spot. Despite his iron-fisted rule over the sea, horrible temper, and obsession of harsh punishments by executing people or sentencing them to the dungeon, he manages to learn his lesson at the end, finally listening to Mindy and accepting her advice at being a more compassionate ruler.
- Always a Bigger Fish: It’s the sole reason he’s afraid of Shell City and the Cyclops who guards it. He towers over Mindy and the other sea creatures, but is only knee high to a human.
- Baldness Angst: He's so concerned with covering his baldness that he doesn't notice Plankton taking over Bikini Bottom.
- Berserk Button: He really doesn't take kindly to anyone messing with his crown. At one point, he tries to throw his own crown polisher to jail for merely touching it.
- Brown Bag Mask: Without his crown, he wears a paper bag on his forehead to hide his baldness.
- The Caligula: Not above using harsh punishments for the most petty of reasons. If it weren't for Mindy's intervention, he would have sentenced the royal crown polisher to 20 years in the dungeon for touching his crown, the job that he was hired to do.
- Disproportionate Retribution: While stealing a crown is a pretty serious crime, most people would argue that it's not bad enough to deserve being burned to death.
- Dramatic Thunder: Lighting flashes when he's really angry.
- Establishing Character Moment: In his first scene, he has decided to punish the royal crown polisher for the crime of touching his crown even though that's his job and dials down from execution to 20 years in the dungeon. He then has a private chat with Mindy about her future responsibilities where he acts far gentler and the only times he raises his voice are to deny his baldness rather than anger at her. This shows us King Neptune is a rather cruel king with massive Skewed Priorities, but he does love his daughter.
- Fiery Redhead: What little hair he has is bright red, tying in with his murderously short temper.
- The Gods Must Be Lazy: Throughout the movie, he's far more concerned with covering up his bald spot than the fact that Plankton has enslaved all of Bikini Bottom.
- Green and Mean: A green-skinned tyrant of a king, although he does see the error of his ways by the end.
- Hair-Trigger Temper: It's so easy for him to get mad. If he's already angry, then whatever slight comes next will certainly exacerbate the extent of his rage. He also tends to overreact to the slightest wrongdoings thanks to his anger getting the best of him.
- Insistent Terminology: He insists his bald head is "thinning!"
- Jerkass Gods: More so than his series counterpart — he was going to imprison someone who touched his crown for 20 years. The kicker? Said person was the royal crown polisher. Also, according to Mindy, he can barely go one day without trying to execute someone.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He finally becomes this at the end of the movie, when he believes that Mindy was right. King Neptune gets An Aesop on how important it is to have love and compassion when you're in a position of leadership. He also apologizes to Mr. Krabs for freezing him and praises SpongeBob for recovering the crown and saving Bikini Bottom from Plankton. Even beforehand, it is very clear that he holds a lot of affection for his daughter despite their different personalities clashing and her constant meddling in his affairs and decisions.
- Kill It with Fire: Probably his favorite method of solving things is to shoot fire at it from his trident.
- Large and in Charge: He towers over just about everyone and is the king of the sea.
- Large Ham: Neptune constantly talks in a loud, bombastic tone of voice almost every time he speaks, even when he's not shouting/screaming. Helps that he's voiced by Jeffrey Tambor, who is well-known for playing these types of characters.
- Never My Fault: Played for Laughs when he marches towards the Krusty Krab, bumping into the sign pole as he was distracted talking to Mindy.Neptune: Squire!
Squire: Yes, your highness!
Neptune: Have this pole executed at once! - Precision F-Strike: The only character in the movie to use a swear word: damning.
- Prongs of Poseidon: His trident obviously, being another incarnation of the sea god. He can fire a variety of beams from it such as a fire beam, an ice beam, and a Shapeshifting beam (which he accidentally uses to turn Mr. Krabs into a human at the end of the movie). In The SpongeBob Movie Game, he can also fire an additional electrical beam that covers a wide area, and he can wield his trident like a Sniper Rifle to fire a laser shot.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: His eyes become bloodshot when he finds out Mr. Krabs (apparently) sold his crown to Shell City.
- Redhead in Green: He has red hair (what's left of it) and green skin.
- Shiny Baldness: His bald head is so bright that it hurts people's eyes.
- Skewed Priorities: He's more concerned with his bald spot and missing crown rather than the fact that Bikini Bottom has been enslaved by Plankton. And even then, rather attempt to find his missing crown and catch the thief, he immediately goes to execute Mr. Krabs based on the clearly fabricated "proof" that he stole it, the danger posed by the Cyclops notwithstanding.
- Took a Level in Kindness: After SpongeBob and Patrick return with his crown and save everyone in Bikini Bottom, including Neptune himself, the king finally realizes the error of his harsh ways and finally comes to respect Mindy, taking her advice about learning to be kinder and more compassionate.
- You Don't Look Like You: Looks completely different than his appearance in the show, but with the same arrogant personality. According to the creators, this was because the two stories called for very different takes on what Neptune's personality should be (the version in the series plays up the "almighty god" part, the version in the movie plays up the "incompetent king" part), and it was better for him to have a design that fit his personality than to strictly adhere to continuity.
Mindy

A friendly mermaid who does her best to assist SpongeBob and Patrick in their quest to Shell City. She disproves of her father's method of ruling with an iron fist, and wishes he would use a little love and compassion. She is also the target of Patrick's affections.
- Amazing Technicolor Population: She and her father have green skin.
- Bare Midriffs Are Feminine: Her shirt is small enough to expose her belly button. Her feminine trait is primarily that she is caring, as she is aware of her father's tyranny and wishes he would rule with compassion instead of anger.
- Bespectacled Cutie: She's a cute bespectacled girl with a sweet personality.
- Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: Mindy's a Nice Girl and King Neptune is a Jerkass God.
- Establishing Character Moment: The very first thing she does when she's introduced is releasing the royal crown polisher, much to her father's anger.
- Morality Pet: To her father, King Neptune. While he's a petty tyrant to others, Mindy, his only daughter, is clearly the one he treats the least harshest despite their different personalities clashing and her constant meddling in his affairs and decisions. And Mindy tries to be a good influence on him, which finally works out at the end of the film.
- Nice Girl: Unlike her father, she's very caring and is willing to give everyone a fair chance.
- Our Mermaids Are Different: She has green skin, blue hair, and wears glasses. She is also small enough to fit in a human fist (she is about the same size as SpongeBob and Patrick and the duo were small enough to fit in the fist of the Cyclops who is human).
- Pie-Eyed: Her pupils have a pie shape.
- Pink Means Feminine: She's a female character who wears a pink shirt.
- Royals Who Actually Do Something: She's the only member of the royal family that's willing to help save Bikini Bottom, unlike her father, who's more concerned about covering up his bald spot.
- Women Are Wiser: She gives SpongeBob and Patrick a chance to save Mr. Krabs from death and believes that her father's cruel punishments for the most petty of reasons are wrong.
- Youthful Freckles: She's a teenage girl with freckles.
Dennis

A hitman hired by Plankton to make sure that SpongeBob and Patrick never make it to Shell City. He is a living example of the movie's Darker and Edgier tone.
- Adaptation Dye-Job: Some of the media surrounding his appearance in the movie alter the color of his clothes a bit. In the console video game and certain toys, he wears blue jeans instead of black leather pants and a white shirt instead of a gray shirt. Those appearances also give him a unique black ponytail underneath the hat too which also is present in the Road Trip in 3-D picture book based on the movie.
- His Cameo in the show proper retain alterations like the grey shirt and blue jeans while also further recoloring his black shades to blue and his black cowboy hat to brown. Overall, he has a a brighter appearance more suitable for the lighter tone of the show.
- Always a Bigger Fish: Gets stomped on by the Cyclops when he himself was about to stomp on SpongeBob and Patrick. Subverted as he survives this and comes back a few scenes later.
- Ax-Crazy: He callously admits that he loves his job while preparing to crush SpongeBob and Patrick with the spiked sole of his boot.
- Badass Biker: The first time he appears on-screen, he's shown stoically riding a chopper, highlighting his rugged, no-nonsense nature. He continues riding the bike during his pursuit of SpongeBob and Patrick, all the while casually tearing lips off of yokels, punching thugs into the sky, and crushing skulls with his bare hands.
- Badass Boast: "Come on, kid, give it up. Dennis always gets his man!"
- Berserk Button:
- Don't insult his hat. He'll retaliate by literally ripping your lips off as poor Lloyd and Floyd found out.
- Don't tell him what to do. Victor learned this the hard way after Dennis punched him so hard his boots flew off his feet and he crashed through the roof of the Thug Tug after Victor dared to test Dennis's patience.
- The Cameo: He appears on a wanted poster in "Call the Cops", later showing up in-person at the E.V.I.L. auditions in Season 13's Captain Pipsqueak.
- Cool Bike: He drives an impressive customized chopper with a unique license plate.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Easily punches the toughest looking guy in the Bad Guy Bar high into the air, sending him crashing back into the Thug Tug, which sinks into the dirt.
- Dark Is Evil: Most of his clothes are black, he has a skull buckle, and he's a hitman who loves killing people.
- Death Glare: His main facial expression is a menacing scowl.
- Determinator: Even after getting squished by the Cyclops, he still follows after the sponge and sea star he was assigned to assassinate.
- The Dragon: To Plankton, since Plankton hires him to stop SpongeBob and Patrick from ruining his scheme.
- Evil Feels Good: It's clear that he enjoys being a hitman, joyously stating that "I LOVE THIS JOB" as SpongeBob and Patrick cower in fear underneath his spiked boot.
- Evil Is Bigger: While not to the extent of the ginormous Cyclops, he still towers over just about every good character who isn't King Neptune and could easily squish both SpongeBob and Patrick at the same time with one foot.
- Evil Laugh: He has two instances of laughter. One when he is alone driving his way to kill our heroes, and the second one comes as he is about to step on the main duo.
- Evil Sounds Deep: He's a hitman hired by Plankton to do away with SpongeBob and Patrick and he has a deep voice.
- Eviler than Thou: While tracking his quarry, he comes across the Thug Tug, a Bad Guy Bar that accosted SpongeBob and Patrick on their journey. They try their usual "all bubble-blowing babies etc." shtick on Dennis, but he shuts them up and sinks their ship with a single punch before continuing his hunt.
- Eyes Out of Sight: He takes off his sunglasses to reveal another pair of sunglasses. Subverted in his final scene where his other pair breaks to the point of revealing his eyes.
- Fashionable Asymmetry: He only wears a glove on one hand.
- Faux Affably Evil: He ends up bantering with SpongeBob and Patrick for a bit before trying to murder them.
- Fluffy the Terrible: When Plankton mentions that he's a vicious killer and we first see his name, it doesn't look like he'd be threatening. Then he gets dangerous.
- Giant Foot of Stomping: Per Plankton's orders, he intends to crush our heroes with his wickedly-spiked cleats, but then ends up on the receiving end courtesy of the Cyclops. He still manages to survive this.
- Good Scars, Evil Scars: Has an easy-to-miss scar on the side of his cheek.
- Green and Mean: He is a green-skinned hitman.
- Hell-Bent for Leather: He has a leather vest.
- Humanlike Hand Anatomy: Unlike most fish characters, who have realistic-looking fins that occasionally develop thumbs when necessary, Dennis has what appear to be human-like arms and hands, but with lines representing the fin-rays as a reminder that they're actually fins.
- Implacable Man: He's already super persistent in his hunt, but even getting stepped on by the Cyclops doesn't stop him from coming back for one more round with our heroes.
- Knight of Cerebus: Every second of screentime he has covers some of the darkest moments in the movie, casually disposing of various side characters in brutal ways and inviting genuine fear in SpongeBob and Patrick when he finally meets them. His end goal is to murder the pair, something he eagerly anticipates, and he nearly succeeds both times he faces them. When he's finally defeated during the ride atop David Hasselhoff, a brief orchestral swell appears, as if the movie itself is breathing a sigh of relief that he's gone.
- Laughably Evil: Despite being one of the series most threatening villains, his evilness is so over-the-top that it's impossible not to laugh at him at times. His ability to grow a mustache at will can also be seen as humorous.
- Malevolent Masked Man: He wears a red cloth mask over his nose and mouth, and combines it with Sinister Shades. He loses it once he comes back for another go.
- The Noseless: Has no nose, yet he can still grow a mustache on the spot.
- Not So Stoic: Does an Evil Laugh during his first meeting with SpongeBob and Patrick after spending most of his scenes before being almost completely quiet. During his second meeting with them, he loses all stoicism and has a brief Villainous Breakdown.
- Not Quite Dead: The Cyclops stepping on him does not kill him, as he returns riding on "bigger boot".
- Offscreen Teleportation: He is somehow able to get from one of David Hasselhoff's legs to the other in no time after SpongeBob made a dramatic jump to the other leg. This ends up factoring into his boss fight in the home console video game, where he casually leaps from leg to leg without issue.
- One-Steve Limit: Averted- in "The Sponge Who Could Fly", SpongeBob identified another character he’d met before as Dennis, though it was not this Dennis.
- Pragmatic Villainy: Dennis isn't above blowing a bubble just so he can track down where SpongeBob and Patrick were last at, but when the Thug Tug calls him out on it and attempt to gang up on him, Dennis' response is to uppercut Victor into the club, causing it to sink.
- Professional Killer: He is, after all, a hitman.
- Psycho for Hire: Before he tries to kill SpongeBob and Patrick, he lets out a maniacal laughter and gleefully cheers he loves his job.
- Sadist: He seems to take great pride in finishing out his assassinations.
- Saying Too Much: Lampshaded when he accidentally slips that Plankton stole Neptune's crown. Subverted because Mindy had already told SpongeBob and Patrick that Plankton had become the Evil Overlord of Bikini Bottom. The only thing they didn't know was that Plankton hired Dennis to not only kill them, but to dispense some Laser-Guided Karma by stepping on them, which regularly happens to Plankton.
- Scarily Competent Tracker: He, among other things, deduces SpongeBob and Patrick were at the Thug Tug from nothing more than a small puddle of bubble fluid.
- See You in Hell: "See you later, fools!" However it is hard to tell whether he means to subtly imply that he'll meet them again in Hell or he is just being sarcastic as he is about to kill our heroes.
- Sinister Shades: When he is first introduced, he inspects a sesame seed by taking off his shades only to reveal another pair underneath.
- Slasher Smile: He has a nightmarish grin throughout his second fight with the main duo.
- The Sociopath: As befitting of a Professional Killer, he doesn't care at all about the lives he has to take.
- Spikes of Villainy: Dennis's glove has spiked knuckles, and his cleats have spikes that are almost as tall as the boot.
- Spontaneous Mustache: He has the ability to grow a mustache on command.
- Testosterone Poisoning: He can grow a mustache on the spot. Doesn't get any more overbearingly masculine than that.
- Tom the Dark Lord: Dennis isn't exactly the first name to come to mind when you see an insane and merciless hitman, but he more than makes up for it.
- Tranquil Fury: Comes off as calm and collected in spite of his desperation to kill SpongeBob and Patrick, at least until his second meeting with the main duo.
- Underestimating Badassery: The hillbilly brothers, bar thugs, and SpongeBob and Patrick should have known better than to mess with this guy.
- Vanity License Plate: His motorbike features the custom license plate "I-KILL-U".
- Vile Villain, Saccharine Show: He's one of the only villains concerned with actually offing a character, and he comes pretty close.
- Villainous Breakdown: He is pretty calm and levelheaded until SpongeBob accidentally blows bubbles into his eyes, almost blinding him. After this moment, he starts yelling and decides right then and there that he will kill the main duo without hesitation."THAAAT'S IT! I'M THROUGH MESSING AROUND! SEE YOU LATER, FOOLS!"
- Villainous Widow's Peak: Not in the movie proper, but other media based on the movie such as the 2nd boss fight against him in the console video game adaptation, the Road Trip in 3-D picture book based on the movie, and some toys, he's revealed to have a black ponytail underneath the hat with a sharp widow's peak.
- You Got Guts: "You got guts, kid. Too bad I'm gonna rip 'em out of ya."
- You Won't Feel a Thing!: Subverted.Dennis: Don't worry, this will only hurt a LOT!
Victor

The owner of the Thug Tug.
- All There in the Script: Only named in the credits.
- Asshole Victim: Considering he made a rule against blowing bubbles and that whoever does gets beaten senseless, no one really feels anything for him when he tries to enforce this on Dennis, only to learn the hard way that Dennis isn't someone you wanna mess with.
- Bad Guy Bar: He's the owner of the Thug Tug, a bar where all sorts of crooks and hooligans hang out.
- Berserk Button: Blowing bubbles. He will beat bubble blowers senseless because, in his eyes, people who blow bubbles aren't real men.
- Disproportionate Retribution: Seriously, beating someone senselessly over blowing a bubble?
- Eyepatch of Power: Wears a patch over his left eye. It's just an accessory, as he can see perfectly fine.
- Jerkass: Like his patrons, he's a violent, ill-tempered brute. Heck, when someone tries to answer his question of who blew the bubble that came from SpongeBob and Patrick fooling around with the soap dispenser, he doesn't hear out his answer and interrupts him by yelling "Shut up!" and throwing a chair at him.
- Uncertain Doom: Dennis gives him a Megaton Punch that knocks him into the Thug Tug, causing it to sink. It's unknown if Victor was saved by Toon Physics or not.
- The Worf Effect: After being established as a tough guy, Dennis delivers a Curb-Stomp Battle onto him. With one blow, he knocks him back into the Tug.
The Cyclops

Voiced by: Neil Ross
The guardian of Shell City, who is actually a man in a diver suit that he never takes off.
- Always a Bigger Fish: Stomps Dennis when he is first introduced.
- Bad People Abuse Animals: Not only are all his souvenirs made of real sea creatures, but he also laughs maniacally as he kills them. It's implied that he knows the fish he kills are sentient, and finds their suffering amusing.
- Creepy Old-Fashioned Diving Suit: He is only ever seen wearing a bulky deep-sea diver suit with a green glow coming from its helmet, adding to his mysteriousness.
- Cyclops: He's called the Cyclops because his diving helmet invokes the appearance of a one-eyed giant.
- Dissonant Serenity: He has a moment of this when he hums quite cheerfully, right as he makes a kitschy diorama of a clam that he captured and killed.
- The Dreaded: The Cyclops is feared by all inhabitants from the sea, with Mindy specifically warning SpongeBob and Patrick to avoid the Cyclops at all costs. It is possible that King Neptune fears the Cyclops as well, considering his reaction of despair when he finds out his crown is in the forbidden Shell City, which is guarded by the Cyclops.
- Evil Is Bigger: He is the biggest villain in the movie and is only matched by David Hasselhoff in sheer size since they are both humans.
- Evil Laugh: Of the "Big Scary Monster" variety of villainous laughter.
- Evil Sounds Deep: He is an evil antagonist and he has the deepest voice in the movie.
- The Faceless: His helmet doesn't show any facial features, and he never removes it (or any of his suit for whatever reason).
- Foil: To Plankton. They both share similar traits, such as being evil, having one eye, and running their respective establishment. The differences being that Plankton is the smallest villain that often gets stepped on by nearly everyone under the sea, while the Cyclops is the largest villain in the movie that can easily step on any sea creature seen so far.
- Greater-Scope Villain: His only role in Plankton's scheme is owning the gift shop that buys King Neptune's crown, and yet he's technically far worse than Plankton, regularly capturing and killing sea creatures to harvest their bodies for schlocky decorations.
- Hate Sink: Very little to nothing about this guy is comedic at all. The fact that he kills sea animals and turning them into souvenirs for profit says it all.
- Hero Killer: He actually kills SpongeBob and Patrick by drying them out with a heat lamp. They do get better...
- Hoist by His Own Petard: The Cyclops uses glue and googly eyes to make his knick-knacks. One of the sea creatures later uses these to take down the Cyclops, squirting it into his helmet's viewing window.
- Humans Are Cthulhu: To the audience, he's just a guy in an old-fashioned diving suit. To the characters, he's a colossal, incomprehensible monster defined by his unnaturalness and willingness to kill sea creatures. However, since SpongeBob and Patrick show no fear to David Hasselhoff, they might not recognize the Cyclops as human given his preference to not take off his suit.
- Humanoid Abomination: Played with. While he's clearly just a regular dude wearing an old diving suit who loves his job just a tad bit too much, SpongeBob, Patrick, Mindy and even King Neptune see him as an incomprehensible monster who finds great joy in murdering fish.
- Knight of Cerebus: He only appears for a few minutes, but those minutes are probably the darkest minutes in the whole movie, maybe even the series, coming the closest to killing SpongeBob and Patrick, who become increasingly despondent as they dry out.
- Laser-Guided Karma: He ends up being attacked by the sea creatures he turned into marine gifts and sundries, with the implication that they're going to make him one.
- Nice Job Fixing It, Villain!: Downplayed. He came extremely close to killing our two heroes, but if the Cyclops never found and captured them, they would have never been able to find Shell City and retrieve the crown in time before the deadline.
- Obliviously Evil: Subverted trope. Whether he knows the sea creatures he's killing are sentient or not, he's obviously enjoying what he does in a weirdly sadistic way.
- Oh, Crap!: He has a displeased reaction when all the sea creatures he killed come back to life."Uh-oh."
- Sadist: It’s clear that this guy really enjoys turning sea creatures into merchandise- a bit too much.
- Sickly Green Glow: All we see through the window of his helmet is a green light, which makes him all the scarier and less human.
- Vader Breath: Sounds of breathing from the suit can be heard underwater, and sounds much louder when on land.
- Vile Villain, Saccharine Show: Remember how Dennis came close to killing SpongeBob and Patrick? This guy actually succeeds. Sure, they get better, but even so...
- Villainous Rescue: He stops Dennis from crushing SpongeBob and Patrick, before taking them to his lair.
David Hasselhoff

- Adam Westing: This version of David Hasselhoff is a super-powered lifeguard who cruises through the water like a speedboat and has a launch pad inside his pecs.
- Amusing Injuries: He gets burned by fire from King Neptune's trident shortly after sending SpongeBob and Patrick to the Krusty Krab. All that happens to him is that he gets covered in ash and says "Ow".
- As Himself: One of history's most delightfully inexplicable examples of celebrities playing themselves.
- The Bus Came Back: 15 years after the release of the movie, he reappeared for a few short appearances in SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout.
- Celebrity Power: Has a mysterious set of superpowers which can't really be explained by anything other than the fact that he's David Hasselhoff.
- Good Counterpart: To the Cyclops. Just as vast and incomprehensible, he aids the heroes for reasons unknown.
- Humans Are Cthulhu: Averted. He is portrayed in a friendly and awesome way compared to the dark and incomprehensible Cyclops. SpongeBob and Patrick show no fear towards him. In fact, it could be that the sea creatures don't see humans as eldritch abominations, but think the Cyclops is one since he's creepy and doesn't take off the suit to indicate that he's human.
- Inexplicably Awesome: SpongeBob and Patrick have no way back to Bikini Bottom, when all of a sudden David Hasselhoff comes out of nowhere, offers to take them there, cruises to the center of the Pacific Ocean as if he's a speedboat, and rockets them to Bikini Bottom through some sort of mechanized device in his pecs. None of this is ever explained.
- No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: He launches SpongeBob, Patrick and King Neptune's crown back into the Krusty Krab - just in time for Neptune to blast Mr. Krabs and the beam to deflect off of the crown, ultimately hitting Hasselhoff on the surface."You've done good, Hasselhoff. You've done -" (gets blasted and burnt) "Ow."
- Spell My Name with a "The": SpongeBob calls him "the Hasselhoff" at one point.
- Writing Around Trademarks: Presumably because of licensing issues, the PC version of The SpongeBob Movie Game only shows him obscured in shadow in one of the stills that appear during the chapter narrations, while his name is censored visually by replacing it in the characters' spoken texts with ellipses as well as audibly by replacing every mention of it with a dolphin chirp a la the episode "Sailor Mouth".
King Neptune's Squire

King Neptune's Squire, who accompanies Neptune pretty much wherever he goes, and must obey his every command.
- Butt-Monkey: Gets hit over the head by Neptune twice.
- Only Known by Their Nickname: He is only addressed as "squire" throughout the movie.
Floyd and Lloyd

Two hillbillies who work the gas station at the edge of the county line.
- All There in the Script: Floyd is only named in the credits.
- Bullying a Dragon: They make fun of Dennis and promptly get their mouths ripped off.
- Everyone Has Standards: Though they made fun of Bob and Pat for their determination to go to Shell City, after the heroic duo laughs back at them and press on anyways despite being rid of their Patty Wagon, Floyd and Lloyd start to worry a bit about them as the duo walk away.Floyd: ...they're dead.
- The Hyena: They laugh at just about anything.
- Incoming Ham: The first words out of Floyd’s mouth immediately let us know what kind of characters he and Lloyd are going to be:Floyd: (in response to SpongeBob asking for a fill up) What’ll it be fellas: mustard? Er ketchup?! (both slap their knees and cackle maniacally)
- Jerkass: They make fun of SpongeBob, Patrick, and even Dennis. They also initially mock the duo when they learn they are going to Shell City, up until they decide to press on despite their Patty Wagon being stolen.
- Laser-Guided Karma:
- After being jerks in both their scenes (and not learning to dial it down on Dennis), they get their mouths ripped off by Dennis before he resumes his pursuit. It's unknown if they were ever able to get them back or talk again.
- In the console versions of the video game, they spend all of "3... Thousand Miles to Shell City" harassing Spongebob as he moves through the level. Then when Spongebob completes the level by destroying the last of Plankton's broadcast towers in it, they end up getting crushed by that tower falling apart.
- Those Two Guys: They are basically the same character.
- Wipe That Smile Off Your Face: Both of them get their mouths ripped off by Dennis when they start to laugh at him.
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water
Burger-Beard

The main antagonist of The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, a pirate who seeks the Krabby Patty secret formula.
- Affably Evil: Despite being a thief, he refuses to hurt innocent civilians to the point where he politely tells them to move out of the way while he is driving. Burger-Beard is also willing to sing the SpongeBob SquarePants theme song with his seagull crew.
- Badass Normal: Manages to put up a winning battle against SpongeBob and his friends after they gain superpowers while being just an ordinary human.
- Big Bad: Of Sponge Out of Water.
- Canon Character All Along: Implied. It's revealed with the paint-over before the rap battle started that he is or the model used for Painty the Pirate, the intro singer.
- Captain Colorbeard: A pirate named Burger-Beard.
- Corrupted Character Copy: He's basically an evil Jack Sparrow.
- Cut Lex Luthor a Check: Played With. The first thing he does once he gets the magical book is steal the Krabby Patty recipe so he can make money off of it rather than just make himself rich. Possibly justified by the fact that it is implied that the book is limited to influencing what has already been written in it, meaning Burger-Beard can't do anything directly for himself with it.
- Didn't See That Coming: Burger-Beard was not expecting a magic dolphin to give SpongeBob the power to breathe air.
- Evil Is Hammy: You can clearly tell Antonio Banderas was having one heck of a great time.
- Friendly Pirate: Despite his antagonistic role and shady methods, he ultimately is an Affably Evil pirate who merely wants to run a fast-food chain using the stolen Krabby Patty formula. He is still completely harmless to any civilians he encounters, as well as being a Benevolent Boss who is kind to his seagull crew. He is a Graceful Loser who takes his defeat in stride.
- Graceful Loser: In the end, he takes his defeat in stride.
- Hidden Villain: This is actually supposed to be a twist in the movie. Burger-Beard is initially presented as part of the Framing Device, narrating the story. It's only halfway through the movie when it's revealed he stole the Krabby Patty secret formula off-screen for his plans.
- Pet the Dog: Sings the SpongeBob theme song with the seagulls at the end of the movie.
- A Pirate 400 Years Too Late: The live-action parts of the movie are set in a modern, United States coastal town, and he clearly doesn't belong. In fact, his pirate ship has wheels on it. And an "Auto-Pirate".
Bubbles the Dolphin

- And I Must Scream: He reveals that he hated his job as The Watcher for this reason, as he had been bound by duty to watch the cosmos for eons.
- Fluffy the Terrible: His name is rather silly and while he doesn't look terrifying he has immense powers and can shoot lasers from his blowhole.
- Head Blast: Bubbles can fire laser beams from the blowhole on his head.
- Heel–Face Turn: Goes from trying to kill SpongeBob to helping him.
- Heroic Dolphin: Gives the main characters the ability to breathe air.
- Hollywood Tourette's: Constantly and involuntarily makes dolphin whistling noises.
- Immune to Fate: When SpongeBob tells Burger-Beard that a magical talking dolphin helped him breathe air, Burger-Beard claims that a magical talking dolphin wasn't in his story. The implication is that Bubbles doesn't appear in Burger-Beard's magic book, which records - and can rewrite - reality.
- Large Ham: He's played by Matt Berry. Of course he'll be hammy.
- Outside-Context Problem: To Burger-Beard, who was not expecting a magic dolphin to give SpongeBob the power to breathe air, or even for said magic dolphin to even exist.
- Space Whale: He's a cetacean (though strictly not a whale) who watches space and can travel through it.
- Stop Motion: He's animated using stop motion animation.
- Toilet Paper Trail: Has toilet paper stuck to his tail after he leaves the restroom.
- The Watcher: He's a parody of Uatu from Marvel Comics. However he loses this job.
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run
King Poseidon

The main antagonist of The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.
- Bad People Abuse Animals: Captures snails and uses their slime as facial cream. Once they run out he makes them work as slaves.
- Balloon Belly: It turns out he's actually fat, but was hiding his gut with a golden plate.
- Big Bad: Of Sponge on the Run.
- Expy: Is very similar to King Neptune of the first SpongeBob movie, being both gods of the sea who function as the antagonist. At the end of the film Poseidon reveals that he is bald like Neptune. The only difference is that Neptune is respected, out of fear more than anything and takes his job far too seriously, while Poseidon is universally reviled and hardly ever does anything worth of kingship.
- False Teeth Tomfoolery: He's revealed at the end of the movie to be wearing dentures.
- Green and Mean: Like Neptune, he's another tyrannical king with green skin (who reforms by the end of the story).
- Heel–Face Turn: At the end of the movie he reforms after SpongeBob befriends him.
- Jerkass Gods: Poseidon is a whimsical tyrant who neglects his Royal duties, never pays his subjects, only cares about his looks and executes anyone who dares to question him (in an extravagant way to add more pleasure to his experience).
- Lazy Bum: He doesn't actively rule Atlantic City. Granted, it is a very well-developed and wealthy city, but as Chancellor points out, the king only cares about his good looks and neglects his Royal duties because of it.
- Mean Boss: He has a chancellor whom he overworks and neglects to pay.
- 0% Approval Rating: It turns out everyone in Atlantic City dislikes him, including his own administrator (whose been a long-suffering Beleaguered Assistant), and that his subjects only pretended to like him because they were afraid of his power.
Otto

A robot that Sandy invented and gave to Mr. Krabs. Later discarded and adopted by Plankton and Karen who use him to drive SpongeBob to Atlantic City.
- Ambiguous Gender: Appears to be a male robot based on the masculine name and being referred to as "he" by Sandy. Although, some characters also use "it" to refer to Otto, and Otto is also played by a woman and speaks with a noticeably femininenote voice. As a robot, Otto might just simply not have a gender.
- Catchphrase: "You're fired." Often said at inopportune times due to being programmed by Sandy as a managerial personality.
- Happily Adopted: After being fired for being too good at it's job by Mr. Krabs, it got "adopted" by Plankton and Karen, who she sees it as a sort of son to her.
- The Gambling Addict: Is revealed to have become this after spending too much time in Atlantic City.
- Troll: Seems to enjoy frustrating people.
Sage

A mystical sagebush who gives SpongeBob advice.
- A Dog Named "Dog": He's a sage made of sagebrush named Sage.
- Big Good: He's the most powerful force in the movie who aids SpongeBob and Patrick in saving Gary.
- Only Sane Man: Is an adult having to intervene in the childish duo of SpongeBob and Patrick misinterpreting his instructions about the Sage Coin or getting distracted by the fantastic luxuries and entertainment in Atlantic City. After the two gamble away the coin, Sage walks out fed up with them screwing up the mission to save Gary.
- So Proud of You: Though he does returns at the end to praise SpongeBob for being able to retrieve Gary and force Poseidon to have a change-of-heart.
- Spirit Advisor: Acts as this to SpongeBob and Patrick.
El Diablo

A fearful gunman in a Western town who Sage claims is controlling the zombies souls.
- The Dreaded: He gets very little description other than being this.
- Villain Song: Gets one with Snoop Dogg and a bunch of dancing zombies expressing that he's a fearful Western shooter.
- Weakened by the Light: How SpongeBob and Patrick defeat him.
Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie
- Half the Man He Used to Be: He loses his back half when Bikini Bottom gets lifted off the sea floor.
- Mechanical Horse: He acts very much like a normal horse (down to making snorting noises) in spite of being a robot.
- Out of Focus: When Sandy and SpongeBob set off to find their friends, Sparky (at least his upper half) is left behind, not appearing again until the end of the film. His back half participates in getting Bikini Bottom out of the lab, but doesn't get much more significance.
Sue Nahmee
A CEO who runs the B.O.O.T.S laboratory.
- Animal Motifs: Her whole life revolves around fish and the ocean; her name is a pun on "tsunami", her blue hair resembles waves, she named her dog Cuda (after barracuda), and she winds up becoming a fish by the end.
- Bad Boss: She treats her two employees Phoebe and Kyle like trash, bribing them with the false promise of a fully stocked vending machine (and paying for said vending machine with their paychecks).
- Bad People Abuse Animals: Her plot involves cloning sea creatures at the cost of essentially killing the original. On a minor scale, she also lets her mutant fish kiss her dog, who is clearly terrified of it.
- Big Bad: Of Saving Bikini Bottom.
- Off with Her Head!: After being defeated by Sandy, her head flies off her cybernetic body and gets caught up by her mutant fish - but she remains alive and is now practically a fish herself.
- Punny Name: Her full name is pretty much "tsunami".
- Robotic Reveal: She turns out to be mostly robotic, as everything but her head was devoured by piranhas during a trip to Peru.
- Unishment: After she (or rather, her head) is seemingly eaten by her mutated pet fish, she becomes overjoyed upon realizing she is now technically a fish (her head exposed while assuming control of the fish's body). Somehow, she is later seen swimming freely and happily in the ocean.
- Dogs Hate Squirrels: Chases Sandy and SpongeBob around the B.O.O.T.S. Waterpark during the third act of the film.
- A Dog Named "Cat": A pug whose name is the latter half of "barracuda", keeping with his owner's love of fish.
- Jealous Pet: Implied to be this with his owner's mutant fish, along with fearing the creature when being forced to let it kiss him.
- Heel–Face Turn: Possibly for reasons stated above, he plays a role in freeing the Bikini Bottomites. He is even later shown attending the Cheeks Family circus along with the other scientists.
- Mister Muffykins: The lap dog of Sue Nahmee.
- Heel–Face Turn: They eventually decide to stop following Sue Nahmee's orders and help Sandy and the others return home.
- An Odd Place to Sleep: Kyle sleeps in a cabinet drawer (filed under K), and basically lives in the lab without Sue's knowledge.
- Punch-Clock Villain: While they contribute to the main villain's plot, they are really a pair of goofballs that she walks all over.
- Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: Played with. At the end of the film, Sandy has used her shrink ray on them so they could attend the circus with her family and the Bikini Bottom residents. Kyle wonders why Phoebe is still bigger than him.
- All There in the Script: With the exception of Bonnie, their individual names are only given in the end credits.
- Fur Is Clothing: After being squeezed out of their skins, they are shown wearing pajamas or underwear underneath. Yet they still leave in embarrassment of being apparently naked.
- Non-Mammalian Hair: The snake leader Butch has a big dark mustache on his face.
- The Smurfette Principle: Bonnie is the only female rattlesnake in the group, which is especially noticeable when she is left in her underwear, as her undergarments are frilly and feminine in contrast to her four male cohorts wearing boxer shorts or long underwear.
- Snakes Are Sinister: A gang of Western Rattlers who make their arrival in a big ol' cowboy boot and attack the main heroes.
Plankton: The Movie
- Animal Motifs: They resemble the real-life hydras that live in the sea, which are not dragons or snakes but are marine invertebrates that reproduce by budding. Just like them, Karen "splits" into the three (later four) Hydra heads before they split off into their own separate beings.
- Belly Mouth: Karen's "main" monitor is in their chest, becoming dormant when she transforms but very briefly re-emerging to order the other Karens to split off.
- Blue Means Smart One: Super Smart Karen has blue facial lines and is the Evil Genius of the trio.
- Combining Mecha: They fuse with New Karen into an even stronger, four-headed form. Also inverted in that they later each split off into separate minions along with the "main" Karen.
- Deadpan Snarker: Super Snarky Karen, who is snarky to both Plankton and her other heads alike.
- Detachment Combat: Each of them (and New Karen) becomes a separate robot during the final battle, serving the "original" Karen.
- Evil Is Angular: Super Smart Karen is triangular and Super Evil Karen is hexagonal. Although Super Smart Karen subverts this with her circular head, she's still on board with world domination.
- Four Is Death: They have four arms and, in their second form, four heads.
- The Leader: Super Snarky Karen is the one in charge of the other two (later three) heads, but she is Demoted to Dragon when the original Karen re-emerges and splits then all off.
- Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Their shared body has four arms to go with their three heads. When New Karen is added to the mix, one of them is replaced with one of her gorilla-like arms.
- Multiple Head Case: They are three heads that emerged from Karen during her One-Winged Angel transformation (later joined by a fourth). They later "bud" off to become separate robots, along with New Karen and the original Karen.
- Our Hydras Are Different: They're called "the Hydra" by Mr. Krabs, have the multi-headedness of the Lernaean Hydra, and "bud" and "reproduce" in a manner similar to hydrozoans.
- Red Is Violent: Super Evil Karen has red facial lines and is the most violent of the three heads.
- Smart People Wear Glasses: Super Smart Karen wears glasses as part of her face design.
- Spikes of Villainy: Super Evil Karen has spikes around her head.
- Unexplained Recovery: Despite the three heads representing the three sides of Karen's personality and ostensibly using each of her chips, the original Karen later re-emerges fully intact as the Hydra heads and New Karen split off. However, this doubles as Foreshadowing, as Karen is able to regain her capacity for empathy despite having removed her empathy chip and never replacing it.
- Animal Motifs: She is very much like a gorilla, walking on her knuckles, pounding her chest and making simian noises before attacking.
- The Baby of the Bunch: She is not only the youngest and smallest of the Karen heads, but also the most childish, topped with a high pitched voice. She also acts like an Annoyingly Repetitive Child who gets a Big "SHUT UP!" from the other Karens for repeating the word "Potato" nonstop.
- Dumb Muscle: The largest and strongest of the separate Karens seen during the movie, but also the dumbest as she runs off the most primitive technology. When she becomes part of Hydra Karen, the gestalt gains one of her huge, gorilla-like arms.
- From Bad to Worse: She ends up making Karen more powerful by becoming her fourth head.
- Fusion Dance: She and Hydra Karen's first form literally dance with each other before combining.
- Multiple Head Case: Becomes Hydra Karen's fourth head and argues with the other three heads just as much as they argued with each other.
- Tiny-Headed Behemoth: Her head is a tiny calculator on a massive body.
- Too Dumb to Live: As the Hydra Karens count to three, she decides to go in for the attack, missing the Gal Pals and hitting the floor, detonating herself afterwards.
- Top-Heavy Guy: Well, top heavy girl. She walks using her muscular forearms, with a single, skinny leg to hold her up.
- Devious Dolphins: Downplayed; he's not so much evil as he is a Jerk Jock who mistook Plankton for a cockroach and tried to step on him.
- Disposing of a Body: Played with. While it's Harmless Freezing, Plankton and Karen hide away his frozen body in a closet with various items. Later, Plankton passes it off as a science project, which SpongeBob believes.
- Human Popsicle: Or rather Dolphin Popsicle. He spends 25 years in a block of ice, but is sentient enough to beg SpongeBob and Plankton to free him and enjoys a Krabby Patty once he finally thaws out.
- Jerk Jock: A muscular jock who doesn't even notice Plankton during most of his college life and then tried to crush him when he finally does notice him.
- No Name Given: His name is never revealed, but Plankton nicknames him "Roomie" before putting him back in the closet.
- Older Than They Look: Justified, as he was frozen for two and a half decades, and thus hasn't aged since spring break.
