Now that you are aware of Lelouch and the other protagonists driving the series, let's take a look at their enemies. Only characters that are considered the Big Bad for an arc are found here.
Check the clock and make sure you aren't missing that dentist appointment before you continue. For more information on some of the villains go to these pages.
Unmarked spoilers ahead.
Sosuke Aizen
The Big Bad of Bleach sets himself up as Lelouch's ultimate rival very early on in the series soon becoming his driving antagonist as the two engage in a battle of wit, planning and strategy to see who will come out on top. Lelouch wins and Talbumosuke takes over in Aizen's place. He comes back from Hell and attacks the Soul Society in the Aizen's Revenge arc with startling success. Only to later be put back in his place thanks to Rita's influence. Word of God is that this is not the last we've seen of Aizen. His Bankai is called Suishokyoka Kotaisuigetsu (Crystal Mirror Flower, Solid Water Moon).- Arch-Enemy: Lelouch. They even explicitly refer to each other as such. While Lelouch has hated him for years by the time they finally confront one another in the Eye of the Storm arc, things truly did not become personal for Aizen until the Aizen's Revenge arc. The hatred between them runs so deep that during the final battle, Aizen outright admitted that the main reason he switched himself with CC just as Lelouch was about to stab him was to cause his rival despair.
- Berserk Button: Attacking his ego will make this Magnificent Bastard lose his cool.
- Blessed with Suck: Has CC's code, thus is now immortal, and now has an eternity of perpetual mind-boggling agony to savour. He really should've thought this through...
- Brought Down to Badass: Meta; has a reputation in canon as an Invincible Villain. Here, his game breaking abilities are much less evident. The rest of the cast are quite a bit more competent than their canon counterparts, so his ploys are a lot less jarring in comparison, particularly as he has Lelouch and to a less evident extent Urahara to act as a barometer. On the physical side, he has several close calls in fights and outright loses a few, which would never happen in canon.
- Compensating for Something: Rita certainly thinks so, given his fondness for overly large fortresses.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: He defeats Yhwach, Stefan, Kenpachi and Kensei with minimal effort. The narration leads us to believe they were all at full power at some point.
- Disc-One Final Boss: Lelouch geass' him to commit suicide at the end of the Eye of the Storm arc and it works. Although, he does wind up becoming the final Big Bad in the end.
- The Dragon: To Kasumi, though really he’s The Star Scream.
- Driven to Villainy: After becoming a Soul Reaper and being rejected by Mari, Aizen was taken under Treva's wing. Treva took Aizen's problems and picked away at them to make Aizen out to be who he is today.
- Eldritch Abomination:
- Regardless of whether or not his Physical God form qualifies, he apparently has a menagerie of these at his beck and call by the end.
- He can change his own form to whatever he wishes.
- Even Evil Has Standards: He does not condone the destruction of the Soul Society, but he’s open to ruling it with an iron fist if he’s the one ruling it.
- Fate Worse than Death: His ultimate punishment is for him to be cocooned up in circle 9 for the rest of his life. Not even his sentence: his LIFE! Aizen is immortal because of CC’s code. Aizen has already been in circle 9 before and mentioned he once saw his eyes fall out of his own head. Have fun, Aizen. Though this doesn't stop the possibility of someone being strong enough and dumb enough to free him in the future; it's happened before so it can happen again.
- Go-Karting with Bowser: Despite the fact that he and Lelouch are engaged in a game of Xanatos Speed Chess spanning across several decades and despise each other with every fiber of their being, they can still play a friendly game of chess.
- Hero Killer: Obvious due to canon, but for this fic this really became the case by killing Captain-Commander Yamamoto.
- Hijacked by Ganon: Directly responsible for all the suffering in this fic.
- Hoist by His Own Petard: Lelouch merges with the Hogyoku and defeats him in the final battle.
- Humble Pie]]: Directly served by [[spoiler:Rita in one Curb-Stomp Battle not in his favor.
- It's Personal: While he despises anyone who tramples on his ego and messes with his sense of superiority, the one he truly loathes the most is Lelouch.
- Love Makes You Evil: While not the start of his descent, Mari rejecting his romantic overtures was almost certainly the straw that broke the camel's back. He himself believes this to a extent.
- Nice Job Fixing It, Villain:
- Aizen's murder of the Central 46 allowed for Lelouch to be acquitted of his crimes by the remaining captains.
- His betrayal not only caused the Heel Face Turns of Talbumosuke, Mia, and Kasumi, but also ensured the survival of EVERYTHING (had his betrayal never happened, Kasumi wins, everything would be eradicated, and she'd be laughing).
- No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: In his youth Aizen was mistrusted because of his immense power and just doing what he could to help others, expecting nothing in return.
- Not So Stoic: Lelouch really gets under his skin during their second battle. And then of course there's his Villainous Breakdown.
- Pet the Dog:
- Though really it’s more of Aizen being a Manipulative Bastard as usual, but seeing him help Nyra out still qualifies, despite his ulterior motives.
- Before his official Face–Heel Turn, he stops Vera's self-destruction.
- Physical God:
- What he becomes after taking the magic he, Kasumi, and the others had stored up and then taking a majority of Kasumi’s powers.
- In 203 he ups the ante by taking CC's code to become immortal.
- The Plan: Oh dear. It encompasses The Chessmaster, Manipulative Bastard, Batman Gambit, probably some Indy Ploy, and it all comes together in the final arc; Aizen has been manipulating PRETTY MUCH EVERYONE all along, for centuries more than we initially thought. Who the hell does he think he is!? Mammon!?
- Revenge: The basis of the entire Aizen’s Revenge arc.
- The Starscream: It should come as no surprise that Aizen would hold this position, but just the fact that he’s put in a position where he HAS this position is why this is spoiler tagged.
- Super Mode: Played straight with the final arc, where he becomes a Dormammu Expy. Subverted, in that he himself states he cannot do Core Form.
- Taking You with Me:
- In a pinch, he can cause his Bankai to implode, causing massive damage to his opponent and himself, and he cannot use his zanpakuto for a while afterwards.
- His last act after Lelouch defeats him for the third and final time is to blow up the dimension he created to take out the Soul King anyway. Lelouch outright calls him a Sore Loser for this.
- Too Clever by Half: Aizen's first defeat came about thanks to him underestimating Lelouch's intelligence and/or overestimating his own. End result? Lelouch geasses him to commit suicide. Aizen takes him far more seriously after that.
- Third Time's The Charm: Lelouch had to beat Aizen three times before it’s obvious he’s not coming back any time soon.
- Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Uhhh, sort of. Aizen wasn't initially a maniacal mastermind, Just trying to be a nice guy but then Mari broke his heart and Treva got involved.
- Villainous Breakdown: Twice. First when Lelouch outright attacks his ego and gets Aizen to be Not So Stoic and then later Aizen tries to get under Lelouch's skin and preaches to him about the way the world should be only for Lelouch to refuse to acknowledge him and Aizen is screaming his head off for Lelouch to comment on what he has to say. Lelouch walks away.
- Wham Line: He drops several of them in chapter 204 often trolling the protagonists by stomping on their Berserk Buttons in the process.
- Worthy Opponent: He considers Lelouch his ultimate rival in intellect and is understandably upset when Lelouch refuses to acknowledge Aizen at the conclusion of their second clash. Gets his wish at the end, when Lelouch can fight on an even keel thanks to the Hogyoku.
- Your Mind Makes It Real: His most notable ability in BANKAI.
- Your Mom: Played for Drama Grand Fisher didn’t kill Masaki. He did.
Talbumosuke Atrumier
Talbumosuke is an original character created by the author. The son of the head of the Atrumier family, a lesser noble family underneath the Kuchikis until the Aizen's Revenge arc to which they stand on their own and his younger sister Senna—no not that one—takes over. Talbumosuke is often called Aizen's Apprentice by the author where, in contrast to Momo, knows full well Aizen's true intentions and studies under the man becoming a sort of backup plan in case Aizen fails. It turns out this was a well conceived plan. He has wildly styled black hair and piercing red eyes. He is in love with Mia Arruruerie and they have a daughter by the name of Kasumi (see below). Talbumosuke's Shikai is called Jikan Kami and his Bankai is called Choro Kami no Jikan to Kukan.- Ain't Too Proud to Beg: He gets on his hands and knees in front of Gin so that he can secure Kasumi’s safety. Papa Wolf indeed.
- Anime Hair: Likened to Death The Kid
- Asskicking Leads to Leadership:
- Proven in his fight against Baraggan.
- Further proven with his #3 rank in HELL. As of the end, with Kasumi's release and Aizen stuck in circle 9 forevermore, he's now the de facto new #1..
- Bad Boss: Toyed with. He is extremely tolerant of failure when compared to other villains, but he doesn't care much about the Espada. Except for perhaps Mia. He is at the very least more benevolent than Aizen.
- Batman Gambit: He figured Lelouch would try to wear him down, since that's the most logical conclusion against an enemy you have not the knowledge of their abilities, and he holds off on using his most powerful technique and his time stopping technique, which has a recharge period, until Lelouch summons the Visoreds, which he knew would happen because otherwise Shinji would not have come to Hueco Mundo.. And it works.
- Benevolent Boss: After some Character Development he decides to turn all hollows into arrancar to give them the choice as to whether or not they want to be Chaotic Evil or not. This is implied during the arc where he is the Big Bad and revealed through his little sister Senna. No not that one.
- Berserk Button:
- Lelouch's very existence pisses him off. It's extremely justified since Lelouch Had his house and family executed and killed Aizen. They deserved it, most of them.
- Harm his wife Mia or daughter Kasumi right in front of him. He will let you know how angry he is.
- Co-Dragons: To his daughter Kasumi.
- Crazy-Prepared
- Diabolus ex Machina: His transformation into a Resurreccion is easily this, but it’s quickly subverted when Yamamoto proves he still has the upper hand. In the end it didn't matter anyway since he was robbed of that power and shortly after that, though it takes some doing, he dies.
- The Dragon: To Aizen after Lelouch geasses him to commit suicide; some would even consider him a Dragon-in-Chief.
- Earn Your Happy Ending: While he and Mia are still denizens of Hell at the end, Kasumi is allowed to visit them, and Rita will make sure they stay a family in their next lives.
- Embarrassing Nickname: Tally, by way of Gin.
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Is this way with him, Mia, and his daughter Kasumi.
- Evil Laugh: Actually chastises himself for doing one.
- Failure Is the Only Option: The fact that Captain Lelouch is guaranteed to survive pre-Zero Requiem is one thing, but the name of the one of the arcs? The Fall of Talbumosuke.
- Failure Knight: Feels this way towards his infantile daughter and Mia. It comes back full circle when he finds out that Kasumi is his daughter and all the Fridge Horror that comes with it.
- A Father to His Men: In contrast to Aizen, Talbumosuke gets along quite well with the espada.
- Give Him a Normal Life: What he says he thinks he accomplished with his daughter. Turns out he failed. Kasumi is his daughter.
- Heel–Face Turn: Final Arc. Watch as he drops the Undying Loyalty to Aizen and takes him on directly for backstabbing Kasumi.
- Graceful Loser: Congratulates Lelouch for defeating him before he dies.
- Ignore the Fanservice: Averted. When Mia asks if there’s anything else he’d rather do than plot against Lelouch, he realizes the subtle hints she’s giving and they start having sex.
- I Shall Taunt You: Does this to Lelouch knowing that he knows better than to charge blindly so he takes the opportunity to stomp on one of Lelouch’s Berserk Buttons.
- Luke, I Am Your Father: He's Kasumi's father.
- Kick the Dog: After he blows up the replica of Masaki’s grave he then rubs it in Ichigo’s face. Ichigo doesn’t respond kindly.
- Kill It with Fire: His Shinseina Honoo.
- Know When to Fold 'Em: The Rescue Orihime arc; he knows he's beaten and rather than lose more than he already has (like Nelliel, one of his more loyal Espada) trying to get her back, lets her leave Hueco Mundo without much argument.
- Let's Get Dangerous!: His Zencho no Sozo makes him as strong, fast and tough, as he could possibly be, but he can't use any other abilities unless he dispels it.
- My Greatest Failure: Not protecting his daughter from the Kushanada.
- My Master, Right or Wrong: He has Undying Loyalty towards Aizen, however there was one notable event where he strongly disapproves him if he gets his hands on his daughter.
- Mythology Gag: His Bankai is like this with regards to his Tales of Bleach: Blades of Destiny incarnation.
- Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: In one of the last moments of the Battle of Karakura Town, he winds up destroying the grave of Masaki Kurosaki. Ichigo gets so enraged he unlocks his own Resurreccion.
- Noble Demon: As told through his sister Senna, Talbumosuke wanted to make ALL the Hollows in Hueco Mundo Arrancars to give them Free Will. Benevolent Boss indeed.
- No-Sell:
- One of the powers of his Shikai has the ability to reverse the flow of time on an object, but not a soul. In Bankai he can coat himself in this ability to make himself immune to time altering effects. Now what use is that? Weeeeell he uses it to Nullify Baraggan’s Respira. And then proceeds, once protected, to beat the man to death using the rest of his Zanpakuto’s power
- In Chapter 75 he, without knowing exactly what the Geass is, manages to nullify its power because he knows that Lelouch needs to have direct eye contact with his enemy so he creates lenses similar to Lelouch’s own using the Hogyoku.
- Not-So-Harmless Villain: Once Aizen was defeated people both in-universe and out thought that the war with the arrancar would be a walk in the park. They were wrong. They were very very wrong.
- Oh, Crap!:
- The reaction elicited from Urahara, Yamamoto, Ukitake and Lelouch when Talbumosuke knocks out Shunsui.
- This is also the reaction Talbumosuke himself had when Urahara escaped his Kura Keimusho by using his portable Gigai.
- Papa Wolf: This quote said it best, "What kind of father would I be if I didn't protect my only daughter?" Why is this in spoilers? Because he said this to the Number One Togabito, Kasumi. In fact he makes a Heel–Face Turn because of this trope. He will also choose his daughter over Aizen, who treated him like a son, any day of the week.
- Person of Mass Destruction:
- He punched out Shunsui, killed Baraggan and worfed the Visoreds.
- Hisana and Byakuya are on the list of injured persona.
- Pet the Dog: Comforts Loly when Mia dies.
- Power Gives You Wings: When using hollowfication powers.
- The Power of Love: Causes a Diabolus ex Machina.
- Shoot the Medic First: Damn this guy knows what he’s doing. He imprisons Orihime in a prism so that she cannot move, effectively taking her out of the fight. However since her life is not in danger it doesn’t hammer at Ichigo’s Berserk Button. However, it gives him the advantage that, if someone dies, they will stay dead.
- Strange Minds Think Alike: After defeating Baraggan the hollow king's skull drops into Talbumosuke's hand. Talbumosuke then recites the same line from Hamlet that Lelouch did after defeating Maki Ichinose.
- Taking the Bullet: Blocks an attack meant for Kasumi.
- Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: With Lelouch as of the last arc.
- This Cannot Be!:
- Averted in one omake and played straight in entirely another.
- Outright Averted and defied by Talbumosuke in the normal chapters and he lampshades it when he makes Baraggan do it.
- This Is Unforgivable!: See the last entry in Undying Loyalty below.
- Time Master: the power of his Zanpakuto
- Together in Death:
- With Mia. Give the guy some dignity after what he suffered. They were separated off screen, he finds her only to find out she's pregnant, only to lose her again after the child is born, only to find her yet again.
- Trademark Favorite Food: Coffee
- Tragic Villain:
- Sure most of his family and his mentor Aizen were Asshole Victims but his devotion and loyalty to them was so unparalleled that when Lelouch took it all away he was all alone. While he was still planning to fight and defeat Lelouch, his heart was closed off to everyone except to (eventually) Mia. When he found out that Mia died in the second Battle of Karakura Town, his reaction was justified. When he dies, he congratulates Lelouch for his victory and personally hopes that he can reunite with his lover. Lelouch himself realized that he drove him to become this and wished for his happiness in the next life.
- Even in Hell his life got worse, after finding Mia the second time it was revealed that she is pregnant and had a daughter unfortunately the Kushanada not only separated them but were planning to corrupt or destroy her, so out of pure desperation he created a portal to attempt to send her out of Hell. Another similarity to Lelouch was created, they were both denied of Fatherhood but unlike Lelouch he still has a chance with his original daughter Kasumi.
- Troll: When he feels like it, he can really push a person's Berserk Button; Lelouch over Yuna's death and how much he's underestimated him during the Battle of Fake Karakura, and Aizen when the latter pulls his power grab (again...) Tally stalls him to allow Kasumi and Mia to escape, and has the gall to piss on Aizen's ego as a parting shot, knowing that due to his Time Stop abilities, Aizen can't stop him. Aizen did not take it well.
- Undying Loyalty: To Aizen. Though it’s subverted during the revenge arc when Talbumosuke states that he must find Mia because they were separated. He does wish Aizen luck though. It’s ultimately deconstructed in the final arc after Aizen harms Kasumi. Talbumosuke drops the loyalty and fights Aizen as any good parent would.
- Unstoppable Rage: Invoked when Mia dies in the Second Battle of Karakura Town.
- Unskilled, but Strong: Though he works hard to fix the unskilled part it only goes as far as his battle technique. He can't plan worth crap in comparison to Lelouch. While that served him well in round one, when he had the element of surprise against the Soul Society his Attack! Attack! Attack! strategy with the Segunda Etapas really didn’t go over too well once Lelouch had his thoughts and tactics nailed down and ultimately he was beaten because of his lack of foresight and let Gin get the drop on him.
Takeno Konda
The lead judge of the Central Forty Six after their reformation after their predecessors were killed by Aizen. While it is the entire Central Forty Six is more or less Lelouch's enemy in the Lelouch and the Law arc, it is Takeno who serves as the Big Bad and faces off against Lelouch in court.- Manipulative Bastard: Tries to get Orihime to discredit Lelouch because of who he is
- Villainous Breakdown: In a way that only an arc that brings out the Courtroom hijinks found in the Ace Attorney series can provide.
Muramasa
A wandering Zanpakuto with the special ability to free other Zanpakuto from their masters and turn them against their wielders. His desire is to create rebellion and create a world where it is the Zanpakuto that control the Soul Reapers. As it stands Muramasa killed his own wielder Or not. His wielder was sealed, so Muramasa orchestrated the rebellion so he could find the seal and undo it.- Bad Boss: Destroys Loly and Menoly's Zanpakuto after he uses them to off their wielders. Possibly justified in that he doesn't fully understand arrancar fully.
- Knight of Cerebus: Okay yeah the series was already pretty serious once the Eye of the Storm arc kicked off and Talbumosuke took the stage and proved to be a very effective villain, but the author jacked up the drama and the heartstring pulling when the Reapers and Heralds arc started. Not to mention the brutal beating Yachiru received and Byakuya's Loyalty Test.
- Kick The Son Of A Bitch: Yes, we know Loly and Menoly are busted up over Mia's death doesn't even come close to justifying their actions.
- Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: His separation of Lelouch and Eien Tamashi later comes to have the result of Lelouch mastering his geass.
- You Remind Me of X: Thinks this of Lelouch in regards to his master Koga.
Shuren Kenzo
A Togabito. He is #188. He wishes to escape from hell. Wields the magic Book of Volcarona. Without the book he is only as strong as #200.- Big Bad Duumvirate: Of the Different Bonds arc. Unlike the movie where he was a Big Bad Wannabe, Shuren and Kokuto are working together.
- Epic Fail: He tries to incinerate Ichigo with a lava geyser, but the atmosphere is so cold that the geyser freezes solid. Shuren lampshades his stupidity.
- Kill It with Fire: Fire burn and fire roar. Total destruction from mountain to shore. Sounds vaguely familiar.
- Summoning Artifact: For Dem Bones.
- Tome of Eldritch Lore: The Book of Volcarona.
- Villain Decay: He was a very competent Big BadDuumvirate in the Different Bonds arc, but in the Aizen’s Revenge arc when he tries to get revenge Mari fells him with a single blow.
Kokuto Shapikni
A Togabito. He is #187. His only weapons are the chains used to bind him and a black blade. Susanna is his sister.- Big Bad Duumvirate: Of the Different Bonds arc. Unlike the movie, Kokuto and Shuren are working together.
- Love Makes You Evil: With some Incest Subtext thrown in if you read between the lines
- My Sister Is Off-Limits: To everyone and everything. Kokuto will let not a single person get anywhere near his sister.
- The Plan: He and Shuren arrange everything to ensure that Ichigo will go into his ultimate hollow mode.
Hollow Ichigo
The Hollow inside Kurosaki Ichigo. Wants to take total control over his "King" and take that spot from him. The antagonist of the Demon Within arc.- Curbstomp Battle: The only people that are not on the receiving end on this against him when he goes into his One-Winged Angel form are Kasumi and Yamamoto.
- Defeat Means Friendship: Sort of. While Ichigo got his clock cleaned against Hollow Ichigo it was [[spoiler: his resolve that was able to restrain Hichigo’s immense power and hold him in place. Hichigo tells Ichi that because of his Heroic Willpower if Ichigo still rejects Hichi’s power that Hichi will simply boost his natural abilities.
- Demonic Possession: Doesn't take a brain surgeon to know of who.
- Healing Factor: His Resurreccion allows him for high speed regeneration
- Hero Killer: He takes out Ichigo (in his inner world), Ashido, Stefan, Kenpachi, Gin, Mayuri and Unohana in record time. He also comes heartpoundingly close to killing Yamamoto, but Ichigo's Heroic Willpower puts a stop to it.
- I Shall Taunt You: He antagonizes Ichigo quite often to get him riled up. It's quite effective.
- Killed Off for Real: It is only by telling Kasumi about his skill in the Wish Fulfillment arc that we know that Shirosaki is officially dead.
- Laughing Mad: This guy could give The Joker a run for his money.
- Nigh-Invulnerability: Between his Healing Factor and ridiculously tough hierro, he becomes very difficult to injure.
- No, I Am Behind You: Is very fond of pulling this tactic While in his ultimate form since his sonido is so fast he slips right through his opponent’s reiatsu and gets behind them.
- One-Winged Angel: That form used in Bleach canon when Ichigo rips the mess out of Ulquiorra's Segunda Etapa.
- Person of Mass Destruction: Anytime Ichigo goes into his Berserk Rage Hollow form that's possessing [[spoiler: him. It's got about as much Nigh-Invulnerability as, if not more than, Dante's Majin form
- Throwing Your Sword Always Works: A battle technique. Used it once to impale Yamamoto.
- Too Powerful to Live: If he was still around when Kasumi was the antagonist her original wish may come true. He may even defeat Aizen when he became the final Big Bad.
- Unskilled, but Strong: While taking possession of Ichigo and using his berserk rage form. According to Word of God, this could be subverted if Ichigo becomes sentient while using said form. There were hints of this when Talbumosuke did the same thing.
Kugo Ginjo
A Fullbringer that is also a former Substitute Soul Reaper. He is the leader of the Xcution group. He stopped working for the Soul Society because they wouldn’t stop Natsumi, the soul Reaper that gave him his powers, and his mother, from being killed by the Inked Alliance. He cut his ties with the Soul Society and ceased doing his job. He swore vengeance on Ukitake. His Fullbring is the Cross of Scaffold. The necklace used to manifest his fullbring used to belong to his father.- Disappeared Dad: Ginjo's father passed away when he was young, though this doesn't affect Ginjo as much as Masaki's passing affects Ichigo.
- Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Why did he have a grudge against Soul Society? Because they didn't help out in stopping the Inked Alliance from killing his mom and girlfriend, who was also a FORMER SHINIGAMI.
- Heroic BSoD: Suffers this after the death of Natsumi and his Mom.
- Late-Arrival Spoiler: In canon the fact that he's a former Substitute Soul Reaper is a big surprise, but here this fact is mentioned two whole arcs before Ginjo even gets any screen time. This is, of course, due to the fact that Lelouch has done his homework
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Against the Inked Alliance as they killed his mom and his lover.
- Team Dad: Seems to have a role like this given how he’s much older than any of the other fullbringers and he tells Yukio twice not to play his game at the dining table during breakfast.
- Took a Level in Jerkass: Ginjo was a pretty cool guy until Natsumi and his mother’s death.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist
General-in-chief Albert Q. Anerdas
The General-In-Chief (preceding Cornelia) of Britannia’s Royal Army. The Leader of the Inked Alliance and Big Bad of Cornelia's entire story mode. Cornelia kills him at point blank range with her cool gun.- The Chessmaster: In a very literal sense, he has absolute authority over the Britannian army so NO ONE can defy him, and he can arrange the board how he sees fit because of it.
- Evil All Along: He is in charge of the Inked Alliance.
- Humongous Mecha: Wields the Malleagant.
- Oh, Crap!: Gets this expression when he realizes Cornelia is about to kill him.
- Old Soldier: He's 72 and he's still in top physical form, and is also the General-in-chief of the entire Britannian army prior to turning high traitor.
- Scars are Forever: He has scar tissue by his right eye where he supposedly took a grenade explosion to the face and lived to tell about it.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: Believes that constantly having a threat will keep soldiers on edge and the people happy. Cornelia and her gun beg to differ.
Zero
The hollow form of the 99th Emperor of Britannia. He is Captain of Squad 10, Lamperouge Lelouch before Lelouch is flung back in time. He starts off as a normal hollow, but is later absorbed by the Vasdo Lordes Scourge and then hive minds the body and becomes the dominant mind, but at a great cost to his psyche. Now he is a being completely driven by vengeance and he is stated to be just as powerful as Lelouch. However, it is a Foregone Conclusion that Lelouch will defeat him in order to stabilize the time stream.- The Assimilator: Played straight at first to where he absorbs 25 hollows, but then inverted when he is assimilated by Scourge and then takes over the main body due to his superior intellect.
- Casting a Shadow: His primary powers.
- Evil Laugh: Prone to these rather frequently.
- Foregone Conclusion: Lelouch Lamperouge is to defeat him when he goes to attack Kallen.
- Kick The Son Of A Bitch: Only when he targets Ougi and Viletta.
- Large Ham: Somehow even more so than when he was alive.
- Revenge: His motive for everything he does.
- Villain Protagonist
- With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: After being absorbed by Scourge he becomes the dominant mind within the Vasdo Lordes, only for the same phenomena that happened to Miyako Shiba, which created Mia Arruruerie, to afflict him as well and he loses most of his integrity and conscience and simply becomes a being wracked with vengeance. It is literally stated that he is naught but the darkness within the 99th Emperor.
- Would Hurt a Child: Kaname Ohgi's baby Maria; technically Kaguya and Nunnally count too.
- You Will Be Assimilated:
- Played straight and then inverted. He is assimilated by Scourge, but then takes over the main body and becomes the dominant mind.
- Continually played straight as he continues to devour other souls.
Kasumi Atrumier
A togabito wearing a white mantle that appears before Ichigo to help get vengeance on Kokuto and Shuren. She is the strongest Togabito in hell and the daughter of Talbumosuke Atrumier and Mia Arruruerie. Her Zanpakuto is called 'Manakama' (True Companion). Her Bankai is 'Manakama, Zenmen-tekina Shien'. (True Companion, full support). She is now the new captain of squad 2.Has a tumblr account. Including an illustration.
- The Ace: Learned very quickly under Zurik, Codex and Rita. Most of of her subsequent successes are based on her own merit.
- Affably Evil: “Yeah, I’ll help you find your friends, but only if I get to keep the Tome of Eldritch Lore the current Big Bad has. By the way, I’m also going to threaten your miserable lives one of these days. Oh and did I mention I’m the most powerful Togabito in hell?”
- Anti-Villain: A combination of types I and II, and definitely the most sympathetic antagonist of the series.
- Arch-Enemy: Mainly Rita they make up later, and earlier Zurik. Now Aizen.
- Asskicking Leads to Leadership: Her ID#? NUMBER ONE!
- Badass Boast: When giving her ID#.Kasumi: If I want to see some action, I gotta be the center off attraction. Make sure that you got your eyes on me before I pluck them out and kill you with glee. Be the focus of attention, kill you so my name will not be mentioned. I come up from the shadows just to shine cause the time is right for you to see me. I am what you're running for and I'm the one they all abhor. I am better than everyone. The undisputed, Number One.
- Berserk Button: Remind her about the betrayals she experienced and of being a Sex Slave and consider your life forfeit.
- Big Bad: Of the Final arcs. Then Aizen assumes the role for the GrandFinale True Chessmaster arc.
- Big Eater: As she's 1/4 Hollow, she has Hollow regeneration. The downside to this is that she has a stupidly high metabolic rate to power it; her need to eat has added to her sentence considerably.
- Black Eyes of Evil: This is a result of using her Lotus System on a Togabito named Zankuro. As if to reinforce this trope she loses them when Aizen takes her power and she winds up making a Heel–Face Turn.
- Break the Cutie: Kasumi used to actually enjoy living in hell, mostly because she knew no other life. Then she got raped and pregnant. And other things.
- Broken Ace: Considering how much she suffered while getting there...
- By the Power of Grayskull!: 'Aid me in my hour of need, Manakama' and 'Bankai, Manakama, Zenmen-tekina Shien'.
- Chained by Fashion: She’s a Togabito. They all have this.
- Child by Rape: She carries one after her unending gang rape.
- Curbstomp Battle:
- Rips apart the gigantic monster that attacks her and Ichigo in circle six. Later does the same thing to his overpowered hollow form
- Did this to most of the former top 20 togabito.
- Attacks Ichigo in his dream realm, thinking he can finally kill her, but he won't use his ressureccion, resulting in another win. Unohana is a downplayed example; she makes Kasumi use Shikai, but is overpowered when she does. If it weren't for Rita, she'd have been Killed Off for Real. However both DID put up a better fight than most.
- Dark and Troubled Past: Kasumi was born in hell. She was a small baby and though she had committed no sin she was taken by the Kushanada. Zurik eventually found her and taught her a few things only for it to come to light that he was using her. Kasumi ran from him and found and honed her skills before returning to confront Zurik and stole most of his powers for herself. Afterwards she began to raise herself to fight and defend herself. She committed sin just to survive and because of that she can never escape hell. She’s been raped and used as a Sex Slave to the point of impregnation and then she killed the child. She’s been killed time and again by the Kushanada, and has fought for her life and survival for an unknown amount of years, but has been stated to be more than 2000. Kasumi is the strongest sinner in hell. All of her abilities are self-taught from utilizing the reishi in her own body to stealing and absorbing ancient artifacts inside Hell to taking them from other sinners for her own use. She even has her own Zanpakuto. Aizen even notes that she is quite a dangerous fighter. All Kasumi really wants though is to be allowed to die and be reincarnated in the real world, or at the very least be allowed to escape the chains that bind her. She’s not evil, not deep down. She just wants the world to hate her so she can be killed and possibly die for real.
- Dark Is Evil: Not by choice however.
- Death Seeker: [[spoiler:Her life has been so miserable that deep down, she just wants to die. She thought Ichigo is the one capable of giving her peace at last, but he failed to reach a level of ability she suspected he would.
- Despair Event Horizon: Kasumi was really never the same after she was raped over and over to the point of impregnation. Her Roaring Rampage of Revenge after the incident should indicate such. While many might think she crossed it after Rita revealed she was born in hell as an innocent, Kasumi was already a little over the edge before then.
- Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: First does this to a giant monster and then later Ichigo's overpowered hollow form. But then again she herself is a Cthulhu.
- Enemy Mine:
- Joins up with Ichigo, but tells him its only temporary. Later it becomes more genuine.
- Later does it with ma and pa to get revenge on Aizen.
- Expy: Of a character in the author's other work; she's the captain of squad 12 and Tally's daughter in that, leading to a potential Walking Spoiler.
- Final Boss Preview: She is the strongest Togabito in all of hell and she promises Ichigo that they’ll be enemies the next time they meet. She is seen to be so fast that she manages to take out a giant monster that had Ichigo scared out of his wits and she also defeats his overpowered hollow form.
- Fish out of Temporal Water: Far longer duration than Lelouch. Lelouch was brought up before the Turn Back The Pendulum arc. Kasumi was brought up BEFORE the Gotei 13 was founded.
- Foreshadowing:
- When she and Ichigo first meet she tells Ichigo that she's suffered much more than he has. This sounds like just the anger of the average Togabito considering the hell they put up with day in and day out, but then her Dark and Troubled Past is revealed. She has every right to complain.
- A lot of foreshadowing to her backstory was dropped here and there coupled with a bit of Harsher in Hindsight. For example: In chapter 134 Lelouch makes the comment that he couldn’t think of a worse fate than not knowing one's parents and growing up hungry and alone. In chapter 145 Meredith notes that an Inked Alliance victim she once rescued killed herself after she was used as a semen deposit to the point of pregnancy something Kasumi would’ve done if she had the ability.
- From her first appearance she is described as being 3/4 Soul Reaper and 1/4 Hollow. Mia gave birth to such a child of whom Talbumosuke is the father. Add a little Fish out of Temporal Water and eventually comes The Reveal that she is The daughter of Talbumosuke and Mia.
- Friendly Enemy: Sees Ichigo Kurosaki as one.
- Given Name Reveal: Averted; Orihime's Geass allows her to see Kasumi's real name, but she's taken out before she can reveal it. We later find out her name though, through her father: Talbumosuke.
- Go Mad from the Revelation: She did not take being told that she was born in hell and thereby born innocent very well.
- Half-Human Hybrid: We know she is part hollow and part Soul Reaper because she's the offspring of Talbumosuke and Mia.
- Hates Being Touched:
- If her slapping away what was going to be a hand of affection from Rita or Ichigo, on instinct, is any indication. Justified considering her betrayals and that she was once a Sex Slave.
- It eventually evolves into a factor of If It's You, It's Okay between her and Ichigo. Talbumosuke and Mia also earn it.
- Healing Factor: As a part hollow, she heals quickly from injuries in the rare instances that someone is strong enough to actually hurt her. This has problems though a) she has a overactive metabolism and needs to eat frequently, which has lead to her sentence being rather longer than it needed to be due to cannibalism in her younger days (she can now conjour her own food), and b) according to Word of God (Kasumi's tumblr account, specifically), she cannot regrow detached limbs like a full hollow can; she'd need surgery before it can pick up the slack. Still, this combined with her innate toughness makes her possibly the best tank in the series; Hollow Ichigo's healing and Rita's durability are superior, but each lack the other's power; Kasumi of course has both. Ichigo would be better than her if he used his hollow powers. He won't.
- Heel–Face Turn: After Aizen takes over and becomes the true Big Bad, Kasumi switches sides to take him down. She is eventually welcomed into the Gotei 13 as Stefan's replacement as squad 2 captain..
- Hell on Earth: Plan B.
- Hero Killer: She may be a very sympathetic version of this, but damn, there’s a reason all of hell fears her. Also she’s managed to not only defeats Ichigo and Unohana, but also her warden and former mentor Rita though not completely unscathed.
- I Am a Humanitarian:
- She’s absorbed the lifeblood of many Togabito to make herself more powerful. Including the entire top twenty prior to her taking the number one spot.
- She ate other togabito when she was younger to survive.
- I Cannot Self-Terminate: All togabito suffer from this, but it’s a particularly notable example with Kasumi because she [[spoiler:wants to die so she tries to extort this out of Ichigo or Unohana.
- Irony:
- Rescued by the one person who she promised to be enemies with, Ichigo Kurosaki as the Mysterious Hooded Soul Reaper.
- The name of her Zanpakuto is something she truly wants to experience Manakama. If it wasn't for all the betrayal she experienced she might have that for real. By the end, it could be argued she does; she now knows who her parents are, she can count on Ichigo (and presumably Orihime) for support, she's settled her differences with Rita, and now works alongside Unohana, her child's reincarnation.
- Kill the God: Plan C. It is mainly this part of the plan where Aizen would most likely betray her.
- Let's Get Dangerous!: Lotus System Bypass: Level: One. Just ask Rita. Though Kasumi admits it'd be no match for Rita's Core Form.
- Lotus-Eater Machine: Plan A. Fails by her standards.
- MacGuffin: Has two; the Lotus System and the Book of Volcarona.
- Mega Manning: The Lotus System, which used to allow Kasumi to absorb other Togabito and take their power. Now she’s only able to use the powers she’s already taken since it overloaded when she fought the previous number one because he used it against her as well.
- Mythology Gag: When giving her ID# Kasumi spurts lines from the Bleach OST Number One.
- Necessarily Evil: She’s committed sin, though born innocent, just to survive. And she purposely becomes an antagonist in order to be able to embrace death.
- No Name Given: It’s quickly subverted at the end of the 110th chapter after her appearance in 109.
- Offing the Offspring: Kasumi murders her Child by Rape right after its born; it eventually becomes Retsu Unohana.
- Only Friend: Her Zanpakuto, Manakama. Codex is a downplayed example; while she doesn't consider him a friend per se, she has significantly more respect for him than anyone else. She also befriends Ichigo.
- Pet the Dog: Kasumi willingly takes the sin chains that Kokuto has placed upon Ichigo’s friends into her own body. Though of course Ichigo already ceroed off 25 years so she profits.
- Person of Mass Destruction: Evident from chapter 187 which details her conquest of how she became the number one
- The Plan: Aizen's been doing this for centuries. Kasumi's been doing it for Millenia.
- The Power of the Sun: Her Shikai’s primary ability.
- Rape and Revenge: She avenges her own rape.
- Rape as Backstory: And as a Sex Slave.
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge: She goes on a killing spree after Togabito who raped her to the point of impregnation.
- Self-Made Woman: With the exception of her early years , under Zurik and Codex, Kasumi can place her climb to the top completely in her own skill and ability.
- Sex Slave: In her backstory she is this at one point, complete with Slave Collar.
- Sleep Cute: Ichigo thinks so. After always having to sleep with one eye open for so long, she ends up nodding off in his lap. He's a little taken aback how at peace she is.
- Story-Breaker Power: The Lotus System, gained while trying to recover from being a Sex Slave, allows her to absorb the powers and energies of her enemies to become the Number One Togabito. Currently she is only able to use the powers she already has since it was used against her at the same time she used it and overloaded the system.
- Token Evil Teammate: When she is introduced in the Different Bonds arc.
- Walking Spoiler: Her rank and role as the final Big Bad is one thing, her identity, backstory, plans, and goals for her role is another.
- What Is This Thing You Call "Love"?: Discussed between her and Ichigo when she thinks she likes him.
- What the Hell, Hero?:
- Yells at Ichigo for not embracing his dark power because she was banking on it so that he could use it against her and kill her.
- She also gave Rita a good what for regarding her being born innocent; she did get to whack her one, millenia later, as payback.
- When She Smiles: As stated by IchigoIchigo: When you smile like that, it really shows your true colors.
- Who Wants to Live Forever?
- Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Her hatred towards Rita stems from Rita having the perceived opportunity to stop it, but never did. Justification seems highly plausible.
- You Are Number 6: She's Number One.
