Garcello

"Tight bars, little man."

In Smoke 'Em Out Struggle, Garcello was forcibly hired and cursed by Daddy Dearest into an endless loop of smoking himself out in an alleyway...unless he transferred his addiction to Boyfriend. He would come to befriend Boyfriend and realize he could have taken another life aside from his own when he loses to him and later dies after a second song.

In another timeline, he is very much alive and enjoys hanging out with his good friend, Annie, as depicted in "Dilemma" from Hazy River.

  • Better to Die than Be Killed: After he dies, he comments that while dying hurt, it was probably better than whatever Daddy Dearest was going to do to him.
  • Breath Weapon: He exhales colored puffs of smoke that match the color of the arrow note he's singing. After the second song, his soul leaves his body in a manner resembling this trope.
  • Broken Ace: An incredibly talented rapper, but a nicotine addict whose smoking habit has left him haggard and homeless.
  • Catchphrase: "Tight bars, little man." has become this for him, due to saying it to Boyfriend twice (once with actual voiced dialogue!).
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He sets off all the red flags of someone you don't wanna trust or approach in the middle of the night, and yet he is actually a very polite and respectful person.
  • Determinator: Despite his Incurable Cough of Death, he carries on rap battling despite the pain. He dies two songs in, and he finishes the last two songs as a ghost.
  • Driven to Suicide: He admits he knew the cigarette was killing him and regretted offering Boyfriend earlier as he realizes it could've taken his life as well. And even without Boyfriend around, he was more than content smoking himself to death in the back alley.
  • Dying Moment of Awesome: His death is displayed with a dedicated cutscene where he lets out a huge cloud of smoke similar to a Breath Weapon where his soul escapes from his body in a grandiose manner.
  • Eye-Obscuring Hat: His hat obscures his eyes most of the time where usually only one of his eyes can be seen under his hat. After his death, his body can be seen in the background hatless but since he is lying face-down, his face is obscured and he still retained the hat covering his eyes even as a ghost.
  • Face of a Thug: Initially appears to be bad news, having the appearance of a criminal, and offering a cigarette to Boyfriend. But he later turns out to be a Nice Guy.
  • Fate Worse than Death: According to him, painfully dying from smoking was actually preferable from whatever Daddy Dearest was planning to do with him.
  • Fog Feet: His ghost form has a wispy tail instead of legs.
  • Friendly Enemy: While most opponents in the base Friday Night Funkin' and other mods are hostile towards Boyfriend, Garcello is far more amicable. The songs comes off as two friends having a jam session, with him even breaking the usual and giving Boyfriend a compliment mid-song.
  • Functional Addict: Addicted to cigarettes, but it doesn't get in the way of his musical talent.
  • Go Out with a Smile: "FADING" ends with him disappearing after his last note, smiling that he got to go out singing.
  • Incurable Cough of Death: He coughs a lot due to being a heavy smoker in "NERVES", with BF seemingly mistaking it for song beats. He dies after the second song.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: His immediate reaction to literally dying after "NERVES" is one of casual indifference, but not after he expresses just a little surprise.
"Oh. ... Would ya look at that."
  • Morton's Fork: His situation as revealed by Atsuover and Rageminer on a stream. Daddy Dearest forced him to give the cigarette to Boyfriend, so either he gives Boyfriend the cigarettes, or Daddy Dearest kills him for failing. Ultimately, he chose to kill himself with the cigarette.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: While he isn't too regretful about smoking himself to death, he's much more remorseful about offering the cigarette to Boyfriend earlier, realizing it could've very well killed him too.
  • Nice Guy: He is actually quite polite and amicable, considering their rap battle friendly and affectionately calling Boyfriend "little man".
  • Portmanteau: His name comes from the word "cigar" and the name "Marcello".
  • Red/Green Contrast: The green to Annie's red.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: Downplayed somewhat, but he's the Savvy Guy to Annie's Energetic Girl. In the menu background for Hazy River, Annie is shown shouting excitedly into a microphone while he looks on in concern (and wearing protective headphones).
  • Suddenly Voiced: Similar to Week 7's "Stress" in the main game, he has a unique voiced line during "RELEASE".
    Garcello: Tight bars, little man.
  • Tempting Fate: Before "NERVES", he notices his chest hurting and decides to continue singing asking himself that it couldn't hurt to keep going, right?
  • Younger Than They Look: He looks like he is in his late 30's or early 40's, but he is actually 26. Likely explained as having been haggard by his heavy smoking habit.

Minus Garcello

"Not bad, little man."
In an alternate universe, Garcello is a human capable of becoming a smoke dragon capable of flight. It is unknown if he too is cursed or whether or not his draconic form is temporary.
