The deities and mythological characters of the Afro-American derived Voodoo religion which are playable in SMITE. The Voudoun page deals with and can provide beneficent information about their real world counterparts.
  • Anachronism Stew: The voodoo loa are dressed as modern day people, while fighting against deities and mythological characters from ancient or feudal civilizations.
  • Egocentric Team Naming: The banner and icon have the appearance of Baron Samedi engraved on them, due to him being the first and so far only Voodoo loa released. Though granted, he is the most famous and iconic one of his religion to the point there is a trope in his honor. This design remains even after the addition of other Loa, such as Maman Brigitte.
  • Genre Refugee: Played with, however voodoo is a relatively recent religion that can be practiced by anyone regardless of ethnicity, though it does have roots in ancient African pagan cultures. Voodoo alongside Hinduism, Yoruba and Shinto religions are also still practiced and openly worshipped even today.
  • Hollywood Voodoo: Downplayed, as the game's developers have avoided any stereotypes by accurately and respectfully depicting the Voodoo religion.

Arguably the best known and most celebrated loa of Voodoo myth, Baron Samedi is a loa of the dead, helping guide souls to the afterlife. However, unlike other, more solemn gods of death, Samedi is a jovial, outrageous figure who loves nothing more than a good party. Rarely seen without a glass of rum in his hands, a cigar in his mouth, and his mind set on wooing woman, it is no surprise that Samedi is also a god of life and resurrection, being able to cure diseases, keep people from succumbing to curses, and stop the dead from arising as zombies. Despite his penchant for the obscene and hedonistic, he has also found love in the past, being the husband of a fellow loa, Maman Brigitte.

Baron Samedi is a Mage god that can provide supportive capabilities while within the heat of battle.

  • His passive, Hysteria, applies Hysteria to enemies hit by his basic attacks and abilities. Baron's abilities will gain additional effects when hitting an enemy with at least 30 stacks of Hysteria and deal increased damage to enemies with max Hysteria. Additionally, Baron and his team have access to the exclusive consumable item Baron's Brew; it restores health and mana on use, and has 3 charges that can be refilled in the Fountain.
  • Baron's first ability, Vivid Gaze, summons two skulls to fire magic lasers, dealing damage. The lasers cross paths where Baron targets, and those hit by both take 15% additional damage. Enemies with high Hysteria have their Power and Attack Speed reduced.
  • Baron's second ability, Consign Spirits, buries souls in a target AOE that damages enemies. If an enemy god is hit, friendly spirits are raised up, healing Baron and nearby allies for a percentage of their missing health plus some flat healing. If at least one victim has high Hysteria, the spirit also increases ally Movement Speed and makes them immune to Slows.
  • His third ability, Wrap It Up, throws his snake forward, wrapping around the first enemy god hit. The target takes damage over several seconds and is briefly slowed before being rooted. If the target has high Hysteria, they will emit a small aura during this period. The snake will shoot venom at enemies that stay within the aura for 1 second, dealing damage and applying the same ramp-to-root.
  • Baron's ultimate, Life of the Party, summons a coffin and pulls the souls of enemy gods in a cone in front of him, pulling and dealing DOT in the process. If an enemy god is pulled close enough to the coffin, then the target's soul is fully ripped out, dealing massive damage, stunning, and applying max Hysteria. Enemies with high Hysteria are easier to pull towards the coffin. The effect lasts for several seconds or until a target is successfully pulled to the coffin.

  • Ambiguously Bi: He is seen in his reveal trailer flirting with a skeleton (who is heavily implied to be a woman) and dancing very romantically with a newly awakened undead man.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: Samedi enters the fray decked out in quite a dapper ensemble.
  • Borrowin' Samedi: Averted; he's the real deal himself.
  • Booze-Based Buff: Baron's Brew, a unique consumable that only players with a Baron Samedi on their team can buy. It essentially acts like a weaker combination of a Chalice of Healing and Chalice of Mana, but at half the price.
  • The Casanova: Downplayed - despite being known as a skirt chaser in other depictions, the most that SMITE’s Baron Samedi has for this is his actions in his reveal trailer as mentioned above and the Divine Uprising lore having him try to proposition Bellona when she asks for aid and giving up when the suggestion gets him a Death Glare, downgrading his request to having a drink with him and being lightening up a bit. His in-game dialogue does not reflect this tendency of Baron Samedi at all.
  • Combat Medic: Heals allies with Consign Spirits, provided it hits at least one enemy god, at the same time he damages enemies with it. Vivid Gaze and Life of the Party also deal strong damage.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: In mythology, despite being a god of death, he's amiable and fun-loving, which is carried over into SMITE. To him, the afterlife is one big party.
  • Don't Fear the Reaper: He's most likely the friendliest of the death gods in the game. He invites the recently-dead to party and drink, and has a lighthearted attitude.
  • Eye Beams: Not him, but the skulls he summons for his Vivid Gaze ability fire beams from where their eyes would be.
  • Fun Personified: As stated in the lore section of his God Reveal video, even a god of death can be the life of the party.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Baron's Brew is a decent healing item. In the in-game lore, Samedi brings some along to help when Olorun gets injured while sieging the Underworld.
  • Facial Markings: Baron wears white facepaint, which makes his face resemble a skull, as thematically appropriate for a death god.
  • Hollywood Voodoo: Very downplayed, but one of his jokes does make reference to voodoo dolls.
  • Life Drain: Consign Spirits can heal himself and his allies nearby its explosion or him...but only if he hits an enemy God with it too.
  • Monochromatic Eyes: His eyes are purely yellow, with no pupil or iris visible, as are the eyes of the serpent coiling around his staff, as seen in his splash art.
  • Psychotic Smirk: He wears a perpetual smirk on his face and seems to be enjoying battles, and despite his friendliness to his allies, he's a terror to his enemies, especially when reeling them in for punishment with Life of the Party.
  • Purple Is Powerful: His tailcoat, top hat, and the skull topping his staff are purple, and he's a powerful mage and god of death, not to mention the leader of the death Loa in Voodoo mythology.
  • Serpent Staff: Played With; Baron has a snake permanently coiled around his skull-topped magic staff, which he throws forward when casting Wrap It Up to root an enemy hit, and if his passive is stacked, multiple gods near the first god hit.
  • Soul Power: As a god of death, he has power over souls; Consign Spirits has him guide spirits to their rest underground, damaging enemies and healing allies if enemy gods were hit by the ability, and he tears an enemy god's soul out of their body to stun them and deal damage with Life of the Party.
  • Squishy Wizard: He has no escape, but thanks in part to his passive, he can dish out pretty admirable damage and then also remove slows, increase movement speed, heal, reduce enemy power and attack speed, slow and root enemies, and his ultimate is one of the most difficult to escape, especially after it stuns you. He's a bit less fragile while using his ultimate, which makes him take 35% less damage, but preparation will be needed to make good use of that (as opposed to say, getting stunned, losing most of his health and then trying to save himself with his ultimate..).
  • You Will Not Evade Me: Life of the Party drags enemy Gods toward him into a coffin.

Maman Brigitte, The Protector Of The Dead
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/skinart_mamanbrigitte_default.jpg
"Alright, alright! I think it's just about time to get this party started!"
Voiced by: Zuri Washington
Maman Brigitte, the foul-mouthed wife of Baron Samedi, can be considered the perfect partner for the partying death god. Like her better half, she assists those who are making their way through the boundary between the living and dead. She's a fun-loving individual who takes her job seriously, lending her aid to those who aren't meant to pass on while speeding up the process for those foolish enough to mess with her and her work.

Maman Brigitte is a Mage assassin who rapidly strikes at her opponent's soul to steadily sap their strength, her hits getting stronger as her target gets weaker.

  • Her Soul Spikes passive has her apply a stacking Soul Spike debuff to enemies hit by her abilities and basic attacks. If an enemy receives 5 Soul Spike stacks, they take damage based on a percentage of Maman's magical power equal to the percentage of health they're missing. When Soul Spikes deals damage, Maman gains a temporary Soul Orb that empowers her ultimate ability.
  • Her first ability is Party Trick. She pulls out a bottle of Rum and uses the alcohol to breathe fire, applying a burn to enemies in front of her and making her immune to knockbacks. The burn can stack Soul Spikes, but cannot trigger item effects. Upon running out of Rum or recasting the ability, she will slam the bottle on the ground to damage and stun enemies around her. She can also cancel the ability to stop spewing flames without putting the ability on cooldown, but the Rum meter will not recharge until the slam is performed. The ability's cooldown is directly proportional to how much Rum she had when slamming the bottle, with low or empty bottles translating to shorter cooldowns.
  • Her second ability has her summon Madame Fangs, her tattoo, to become a spectral snake to damage enemies it passes through. The ability can hit multiple times, but deals reduced damage after the initial hit. Enemies damaged by Madame Fangs are inflicted with Madame's Mark, which deals an additional weak attack every time Maman hits them with a basic attack or ability. Madame's Mark hits can apply Soul Spikes, but cannot trigger item effects.
  • Her third ability, Spirit Seize, is a dash attack that has her assume a spectral form. In this state, she can pass through player made walls, pass through and damage minions, and damage and possess the first enemy god hit. Maman will deal minor damage to the possessed god multiple times during the duration, and Maman can either step out or dash out of the possessed god.
  • Her ultimate, Explosion Of Souls, has her gather spiritual energy and throw it at a target location, damaging, knocking-up, and applying Madame's Mark to enemies hit. Soul Orbs obtained by her passive are consumed on use to increase the area of impact.

  • Animated Tattoo: Madame Fangs, her living snake tattoo and the focus of the eponymous ability.
  • Berserk Button: Hurting innocent mortals. Mantichoras attacking Phila when the latter tries to help Maman is the trigger for the Voodoo goddess to start taking the fight seriously, forcing the manticore's retreat with Explosion of Souls.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Appears in the Immortal Revelry Odyssey to save Phila from Mantichoras and his forces.
  • Booze Flamethrower: Her Party Trick ability, which uses a bottle of rum to spew flames.
  • Death of a Thousand Cuts: Her intended playstyle has her dealing dozens of weak hits to proc her passive as many times as possible, helped by Madame Fangs and Explosion of Souls temporarily doubling the number of hits from each basic attack and ability.
  • The Gadfly: Leans into this during the Immortal Revelry Odyssey, spending just as much time messing with Mantichoras as she does fighting him.
Maman makes a show at looking around before taking a drag of her cigarette.
  • Grievous Bottley Harm: The finishing blow of her Party Trick ability has her slam her rum bottle on the ground hard enough to create a damaging shockwave.
  • Intoxication Ensues: A lore exclusive mechanic has Madame Fangs force a drunken sensation on Martichoras during their fight in the Immortal Revelry Odyssey.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Fitting her swear-happy nature, quite a few of her voicelines have a Sound-Effect Bleep, with the developers stating that they wanted her to have the most out of any default voice pack to match her mythlogical use of them.
