Lexi’s Family
- Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Dawn can act embarrassing towards Lexi at times, not helped by the fact that she’s a teacher at Lexi’s high school. For example, she thought it was a good idea to give Nikki her daughter’s baby photos to “use for a presentation” without bothering to filter out the embarrassing ones. It becomes a plot point in “Dance ‘Til You Die of Embarrassment” when Lexi is afraid that Dawn will cause her embarrassment at the school dance, recounting all the times she’s done so during major events in Lexi’s life (however, she does learn to accept her mother for who she is by the end of the episode). Victor can also come off this way due to his overprotectiveness and Boyfriend-Blocking Dad tendencies.
- Ambiguously Christian: The Shutters are not shown partaking in Christian customs, but in “The Origin of Virus Pt. 2”, Victor says after Henry Sickler’s death that he hopes he’s burning in Hell (before getting cut off by Snap) implying that he does have a belief in the Christian afterlife.
- Best Friends-in-Law: By the time Victor and Dawn were married, George and Victor had become close friends, to the point where George calls him “Vic” as a nickname and is often the one to talk sense into him.
- Good Parents: Even in spite of Victor and Dawn’s faults, they are loving and supportive towards their children.
- Happily Married: While their marriage isn’t perfect, they still love each other a lot and are happy together. Even when Dawn was furious at Victor for gambling their money away in “Party Foul”, she still wanted to spend time with him at a museum the next day. Victor also goes to great lengths to get Dawn’s stolen engagement ring back in “Spring Break-Up”.
Lexi's mother and the computer lab teacher at Westwing High School.
Lexi's father.
- Big Eater: In “Party Foul”, he stuffs his face at a buffet, and Dawn telling him beforehand not to make a “pig out of” himself suggests this is a habit of his at buffets.
- Boyfriend-Blocking Dad: Much of "Fancy Angst" is about him coming to terms with the fact that his daughter is growing up and interested in boys now.
- Papa Wolf: He is naturally very protective of his children.
Lexi's younger brother.
- Annoying Younger Sibling: Snap can get on Lexi’s nerves at times, though they do have moments of Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other.
Dawn's twin brother and Lexi and Snap's uncle.
- Cool Uncle: He’s a pretty laid-back uncle who loves his niece and nephew.
- Heavy Sleeper: He was able to sleep throughout the entirety of "Party Foul", leaving Lexi to (almost) get away with her party.
- My Sister Is Off-Limits: It is mention he used to not like Victor, but had since then warmed up to him.
Theo’s Family
- Ambiguously Christian: In “Least Wonderful Time of the Year”, the Valors are shown to set up a Nativity set around Christmas. Hank also says “God bless you” in return to the carolers saying it to him.
- Good Parents: Phoebe and Hank are both very loving and supportive of their son.
- Happily Married: Phoebe and Hank love each other a lot and are very happy together. Even when their relationship was long-distance, they still made it work.
Theo's father.
- Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Not as much as the Shutters but has his moments, particularly when he decides to show up unannounced at Theo’s school to pick him up for a hunting trip.
- Big Eater: When Theo doesn’t want his dinner in “Bets Are On”, he finishes it himself, and also feasts on tons of venison as well as a fish he caught in “Deer Season”.
- Gun Nut: As part of being a hunter and having military background, he likes guns, and was perfectly willing to teach his son how to use one until Phoebe had to tell him “no”.
- Jock Dad, Nerd Son: Hank is a military veteran into fishing and other outdoor activities, while Theo is an introverted Bookworm. In spite of that, they still get along really well.
- Obsessed with Food: There are frequent moments where he is thinking about food, between his love for Phoebe’s cooking and his main interest during “Deer Season” being wanting to eat that game he has hunted. Justified; he was in the military for many years having to rely mainly on rations, and now appreciates homecooked meals more.
- Papa Wolf: Mess with his son, and he won’t be happy about it one bit.
- The only thing that stops him from dealing with Boomer and Harold in a physically violent way is the fact that they’re still children. In “Deer Season” he does express wanting to beat them up before Theo had to remind them that they’re 15.
Theo's mother.
- Mama Bear: Like Hank, she will not take anyone messing with her son.
- When Boomer, Harold, and Nikki pick on Theo right in front of them in “Stars and Stripes Never”, she is naturally angry and threatens to take it up with their coach.
Theo's grandfather and Hank's father.
- Technologically Blind Elders: An old video on Hank’s phones has Theodore (offscreen) struggle to figure out how to use the video camera app. Ironically he is a TV.
- The Voice: His first appearance is “Deer Season”, where only his voice on a 14-year-old video is heard.
Beatrice "Betty" Valor
Theo's late grandmother and Hank's mother.
- Needlework Is for Old People: She knitted things like blankets for Theo when he was younger.
- Posthumous Character: She died when Theo was younger.
Grody’s Family
Grody's mother.
- Abusive Parents: She is neglectful and dismissive of her son.
- Good Smoking, Evil Smoking: She is one of the few adults shown smoking, and one of the few Abusive Parents.
Grody's father.
- Abusive Parents: Season 1 and 2 shows him to be the neglectful kind, as he breaks his promise to spend time with Grody on Thanksgiving and is dismissive of him when he becomes ill in “Biohazardous To Your Health”.
- The Ghost: He doesn’t show up in Season 1 or 2, befitting for him being a deadbeat dad who could care less about his son.
Autumn’s Family
Autumn's adoptive parents, a cello and piano respectively.
- Good Parents: They are loving and supportive towards their daughter.
- Happily Married: They are very loving towards each other and spend time with each other a lot.
- Papa Wolf: After finding out that Autumn attended a party Lexi threw, they both forbid her from hanging out with them again out of fear for her safety.
Autumn's biological parents, who live in New Oak City.
Laura’s Family
Laura's parents.
- Good Parents: While their work does sometimes get in the way of spending time with their daughter, they are well-meaning, loving, and supportive parents to Laura. They accommodate her vegan lifestyle by having separate meals cooked for her, and avert the trope of rich parents spoiling their children by punishing Laura and taking away credit card privileges when she gets in trouble at school, meaning they care about raising Laura to be a good person and not a Spoiled Brat.
- Rhyming Names: Laura's father is named Dwight Bright.
- Rich Sibling, Poor Sibling: Larry and his family are middle class while Laura and her family are upper class, making Paula richer than her sibling.
Laura's cousin, who goes to Westwing High with her.
- Butt-Monkey: He doesn't have the greatest respect, from getting shoved into a locker by the other nerds for liking a season of a show to being buried in the sand at the beach and sat on.
- Jewish and Nerdy: He comes from a Jewish family, and is a friend of Dexter and a member of the nerd clique. However, downplayed as he is much less nerdy compared to Dexter and most of the other nerds.
- No Full Name Given: He is Laura's cousin on her mother's side, and due to Mrs. Bright's maiden name never being given, his last name is unknown.
Laura's other cousins and Larry's younger siblings.
- Annoying Younger Sibling: Of both the sibling and the cousin variety.
- No Full Name Given: As with Larry, their surname isn't given.
Nikki’s Family
Nikki's father and the owner of the Househopolis Mall.
- Cigar Chomper: During his partial physical appearance in “Party of None”, it is shown he smokes cigars.
- The Dreaded: He is such an imposing authority figure that everyone at the mall dreads him, especially when he’s angry.
- Egomaniac Hunter: Befitting for the Rich Bastard he is, he also partakes in big-game hunting. In “New Years, New Fears”, he’s pretty excited to talk about a wildebeest he hunted when Mr. Cash gets him to tell one of his hunting stories, as a diversion while the group carries out their Engineered Public Confession scheme towards Nikki.
- Horrifying the Horror: Nikki may act incredibly bossy to everyone, but there are times where he is even willing to put her in her place, such as in "New Years, New Fears".
- Mean Boss: Most of his phone calls involving him yelling at Mr. Cash.
- The Voice: In most of his appearances in Season 1 and 2, it’s mainly just his voice that’s heard, whether off-screen or through the phone. However, he does make a partial appearance in “Party of None” where he is simply just The Faceless.
Nikki's mother.
Brooke's Family
Brooke's mother, who is a middle school soccer coach.
Brooke's younger sister.
Mr. Rule’s Family
Snap’s fifth grade teacher and Mr. Rule’s younger sister.
