Scooby-Doo (2002)

    Scrappy-Doo

Scrappy-Doo

Portrayed by: Scott Innes (Scrappy-Doo), Rowan Atkinson (Fake Emile Mondavarious) and J. P. Manoux (Scrappy-Rex)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/scrappy_doo_scott_innes.png
"I'm as cute as a Powerpuff Girl! I'll get my own TV show!"
"You don't have the scrote for this job, pally! Now listen up, losers! The time has come to appoint me your unquestioned leader! Either that or I'm outta here!"
The nephew of Scooby-Doo that lives with a gland disorder.
  • Achilles' Heel: The Daemon Ritus in his Scrappy Rex form is the only thing keeping all the souls he's absorbed inside his body, at least before he can absorb that "pure soul" he needs to make it permanent. Should it be removed, they'll all escape and he loses power. Granted, that means getting to and yanking the comparatively small golden pyramid out of the chest of a giant brute, which none of Mystery Inc. could do on their own and had to use the very claw he extracted souls with to manage.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Scrappy Cornelius Doo, according to Velma at the end.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: He was a friendly, if impulsive fellow in the cartoons. Here, he's an arrogant, evil mastermind.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: While he could be obnoxious in the cartoons (his first in particular), he was a good-hearted individual who cared about his friends. Here, he's an arrogant, egotistical jerk whose obnoxiousness leads to him getting kicked out of the gang. And that's before he's revealed to be a villain.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: The original Scrappy wasn't stupid per say, but he is somewhat impulsive. Scrappy here is clearly a mastermind who expertly crafted an elaborate scheme to lure the Scooby Gang to their doom.
  • Adaptational Ugliness: He's a lot less cute in the film than in his cartoon form. Likely because this version of Scrappy is a full grown dog with a gland disorder that has taken its toll on his appearance. That or Evil Makes You Ugly.
  • Adaptational Villainy: This version of Scrappy is the main villain of the first live-action film, when the original incarnation of the character was heroic and genuinely cared for his uncle and the rest of Mystery, Inc.
  • Adaptational Wimp: In the cartoons, he had super strength and was a Pint-Sized Powerhouse, able to punch through solid rock and once survived falling off a rooftop without a scratch and would occasionally be the one to incapacitate the bad guy. Here, (once depowered) he goes down with a single punch.
  • Age Lift: Unlike in the cartoon, he's not a puppy, he just looks like one because of glandular problems.
  • Artistic License – Biology: Scrappy lives with a gland disorder, but in real life, a dog living with a gland disorder would have a miserable life.
  • Big Bad: He is the main villain of the first live-action film.
  • Big "NO!": He yelled this after he heard Shaggy call him a bad puppy.
  • Black Sheep: Velma says that every family has one nut. He's that one nut.
  • Blatant Lies: He intentionally pissed on Daphne but claimed it was an accident.
  • Cast as a Mask: Scrappy is played by Rowan Atkinson when in the robot suit.
  • Curse Cut Short: As he's being loaded into a police car at the end of the film, he declares "And I would've gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling sons of—" only to have the car door closed before he can finish.
  • Dark Is Evil: As Scrappy Rex, he becomes much darker in color.
  • Depraved Dwarf: Due to a glandular problem, he is very small even as a full grown dog, but he is also the Big Bad.
  • The Dog Is The Mastermind: Literally.
  • Evil Brit: In his Emile Mondavarious disguise.
  • Evil Makes You Ugly: Not like this version of Scrappy is all that cute to begin with, but when he transforms into Scrappy Rex, he looks downright monsterous like some fusion of his regular dog looks with the demons.
  • Evil Nephew: He resents his uncle along with the others for abandoning him and tries to kill them as part of his plan for world domination.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: His Scrappy-Rex voice is deeper than his natural voice.
  • Expecting Someone Taller: When chasing down his uncle as Scrappy-Rex, he comments that Scooby looks "so much bigger on TV."
  • Fat Bastard: Not in his normal form, but when he turns into Scrappy Rex he not only becomes taller and buffer, but he also gets a fat jiggling gut. In this form, his previous Jerkass behavior is amplified. This also contrasts him with the Lean and Mean Demon Mooks.
  • Fatal Flaw: Arrogance, him overestimating his value to the team is what cost him his spot in Mystery Inc. Also his plan probably would've worked if he had just invited Scooby rather than invite the whole gang to watch so he could humiliate all of them for revenge.
  • Flanderization: His obnoxiousness and over-confidence is exaggerated at the expense of his better qualities.
  • Freudian Excuse: He becomes bent on world domination simply because Mystery Inc. didn't want him on their team and abandoned him in the middle of a desert once they had enough of him.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Shaggy tells Scrappy that he doesn't have an excuse for his evil plan, despite his grievances.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: When he tried to appoint himself the new leader of the gang in flashback, he said it was either that, or he was not staying. The rest of them unanimously decide to dump him and drive off.
  • Hate Sink: He appears in a flashback showing how he was kicked off the team, though he's portrayed as a massively egotistical jerk instead of merely being overconfident. He's also the main villain of the movie, acting out of a desire for vengeance over being kicked off the team.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: In the flashback of him getting booted off the team, he really shouldn't have given the gang kicking him out as the only alternative to making him the group's new leader.
  • It's All About Me: In the flashback depicting him shows him as an egotistical jerk, which leads to the rest of Mystery, Inc. kicking him out. Velma even calls him an egomaniac.
  • Jerkass: Scrappy is an ego-driven narcissist who wanted revenge on the team, especially Scooby.
  • Large and in Charge: Not as himself, but definitely as Scrappy Rex.
  • The Man Behind the Man: He's the real villain of the film, with Emile just being a very convincing human robot suit he pilots.
  • Master Actor: He pulls off a very convincing gentlemanly human businessman.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Despite only needing Scooby for the ritual, he invited the entire gang of Mystery Inc. to the island when most of the members had already broken up and went their separate ways two years ago, just so that they can witness his moment of triumph. Granted, it's unlikely Shaggy would have just let Scooby go alone, but on his own he would be infinitely more manageable. This subsequently results in the previously-hostile Scooby Gang rekindling its relationship, coming together to defeat his plan. Whoops.
  • Older Than They Look: When he appears in a flashback, Velma mentions how he wasn't a puppy anymore despite his appearances thanks to a gland disorder.
  • One-Winged Angel: His Scrappy-Rex form has him become a monstrous brute which seems to incorporate some traits of his demon minions, particularly in his skin coloration and the spikes.
  • Precision F-Strike: Before he got kicked out, he got away with saying "scrote".
  • Robotic Reveal: His Emile Mondavarious disguise was a robot operated by Scrappy.
  • Sir Not-Appearing-in-This-Trailer: His appearance was kept hidden by the marketing.
  • Stout Strength: As Scrappy Rex, he's quite fat, but also very strong, being able to knock people around with no effort at all.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: He becomes egotistical on top of his overconfidence, even before he seeks his revenge on the gang.
  • Urine Trouble: Once he pissed on Daphne, he was removed from the Mystery Machine.
  • Vague Age: Downplayed. He's at least stated to not be a puppy. However, he's still described as Scooby Doo's nephew and he acts quite childish. This makes it hard to pin point exactly how old Scrappy is supposed to be in this continuity.
  • Walking Spoiler: His involvement gives away the twist.
  • You Meddling Kids: Before he was cut off and sent to jail alongside N'Goo Tuana and Zarkos, he nearly referred to Mystery Inc. as meddling sons of bitches.
  • Your Soul Is Mine!: His endgame is to absorb the souls of everyone his demons have body-napped into himself with the Daemon Ritus to become an almighty being that can Take Over the World. The reason he needs Scooby is because his pure soul will give him even greater power and make it permanent to boot.

    Voodoo Maestro

Voodoo Maestro

Portrayed by: Miguel A. Núñez Jr.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/voodoo_maestro_2.png
"Whatever you do, do not go into that Spooky Island castle."

A voodoo practitioner at Spooky Island.

  • Cuckoosnarker: He's as snarky as he is strange which is saying a lot from a guy who tried to sacrifice a dead chicken.
"Purple is a fall color, it's the middle of May"
  • Hollywood Voodoo: His voodoo practicing is rather inaccurate, it does serve to make him look even stranger.
  • No Name Given: Mystery Inc. didn't get a chance to learn his name.
  • Reverse Psychology: Averted. Daphne thinks he's trying to use this to get her to go to the Spooky Island castle, even though he is indeed telling the truth.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He only appears in two scenes, but his warning about the castle indirectly leads the gang to taking the Daemon Ritus.

    Melvin Doo

Melvin Doo

Portrayed by: Martin Broome
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/melvin_doo.png
"Uh, Melvin Doo?"

A college student who visited Spooky Island.

  • Brick Joke: He first thought that he received a phone call when it turns out Scooby has to answer it. When Scrappy revealed his intentions to absorb Scooby's soul, Scooby tried to ask if he meant Melvin.
  • Chekhov's Gag: He's introduced in a brief gag as a human who inexplicably shares his surname with Scooby, then is randomly brought up again by Scooby when Scrappy reveals that he plans to absorb Scooby's soul.
  • The Generic Guy: The only thing special about him is the fact that he shares the last name as Scooby.

    Demons

Demons

Voiced by: Jess Harnell and Frank Welker
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_0492.jpg

The inhabitants of Spooky Island.

  • Actor Allusion: Frank Welker voices a group of creatures that get killed by sunlight.
  • Body Horror: They extract a person's soul and then step into the body to possess them.
  • Expy: The Demons are based on the Gremlins; Due to having similar reptilian designs, and the same weakness to sunlight. Even helps that Frank Welker voiced both the Demons and Gremlins.
  • Lean and Mean: While they are tall, they are quite lean.
  • No Name Given: There is no official name for the creatures.
  • One-Gender Race: There are only males.
  • Pre-Explosion Glow: When the monsters are exposed to the sunlight, they glow with bright spots just before they explode.
  • Purple Is Powerful: They're colored purple and are strong monsters.
  • The Speechless: If they don't possess people, they don't talk.
  • Suddenly Voiced: In the video game, they speak fluent English.
  • Totally Radical: Once they possess people, the victims talk using ludicrous slang. They're really overdoing it when it comes to pretending to be normal college students.
  • Trailers Always Spoil: Their method of possessing people was first revealed from the trailer.
  • Weakened by the Light: They take control of human bodies to shield themselves against sunlight. Once their human bodies regain their souls and they're ejected out, the sunlight destroys them.

    Zarkos

Zarkos

Portrayed by: Sam Greco
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zarkos.png

A Mexican wrestler employed by Scrappy-Doo and N'Goo Tuana.

  • Gratuitous Spanish: He referred to Daphne as "Senorita".
  • Hidden Depths: Zarkos is a Telemundo celebrity before he joined Scrappy and N'Goo Tuana.
  • Masked Luchador: One who used to appear in Mexican soaps.
  • Oh, Crap!: He received this moment as he was cornered and defeated by Daphne, making him the damsel in distress.
  • Starter Villain: He is the first boss of the game.

Scooby-Doo: Monsters Unleashed

Dr. Jonathan Jacobo / Evil Masked Figure / Heather Jasper Howe

Dr. Jonathan Jacobo / Evil Masked Figure / Heather Jasper Howe

Portrayed by: Tim Blake Nelson (Dr. Jonathan Jacobo), Scott McNeil (Evil Masked Figure, on-set actor and voice) and Alicia Silverstone (Heather-Jasper Howe)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jonathan_jacobo_13.png
The pterodactyl ghost was just the beginning...

Evil Masked Figure

Heather-Jasper Howe

A Mad Scientist who wanted to created monsters.

  • Adapted Out: In the PC video game, Dr. Jacobo is never seen and both Heather-Jasper Howe and the Evil Masked Figure are two different characters.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: He started out as the Pterodactyl Ghost, one of the monsters Mystery, Inc. faced in The Scooby-Doo Show. The incarnation in the original cartoon was not a scientist.
  • Big Bad: Of Scooby-Doo: Monsters Unleashed.
  • Big "NO!": He yells this twice as the Evil Masked Figure.
  • Cast as a Mask: Dr. Jonathan Jacobo and his disguises as the Evil Masked Figure and Heather Jasper Howe are all played by separate actors.
  • Character Catchphrase: As the Evil Masked Figure, he loves yelling "MYSTERY INCORPORATED!"
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: Since Scrappy-Doo posed as a founder of a theme park and wanted Scooby's soul, Dr. Jonathan Jacobo (a human being) wants to unmask the Mystery Inc. gang as fools with his technology.
  • Cool Mask: His metallic mask is as cool as it is scary.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Doesn't really give himself a proper name, so everyone just refers to him as "the Evil Masked Figure".
  • Evil Is Hammy: Especially as both Dr. Jacobo and the Evil Masked Figure.
  • Evil Is Petty: Unlike the other unmasked villains who only talk about getting back at the gang, Jacobo sought to ruin Mystery Inc's reputation and eventually kill them just because he was locked up for bank robbery.
  • Expressive Mask: For the Evil Masked Figure and Heather-Jasper Howe.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Dr. Jacobo doesn't believe that there is still good in him.
  • Final Boss: The Game Boy Advance game ends with a final boss fight against the Evil Masked Figure.
  • Gender Bender: Since he acted in My Fair Lady, he was able to dress up as a woman.
    • Presumably, he drank the same potion Shaggy did to change his body into a woman's in order to sell the act better.
  • Hate Sink: As Heather-Jasper Howe, he makes false claims about Mystery Inc. on the news to turn the public against them. This snobbish attitude and trash-talking make this alter ego an unlikable character in the film.
  • Mad Scientist: He's an evil genius who uses his technology to bring the monster costumes to life.
  • Maker of Monsters: His scheme involves creating real-life versions of the fake monsters the gang unmasked before. They destroy the city and wreak havoc for the gang, who can only defeat him by dealing with the monsters.
  • Master of Disguise: He plays both a masked figure and a news reporter (albeit with a gender-bending potion) convincingly.
  • Ms. Fanservice: As Heather Jasper Howe as demonstrated with a revealing dress during the opening ceremony of the museum dedicated to Mystery Inc.
  • Same Character, But Different: He is apparently the same person as the Pterodactyl Ghost from The Scooby-Doo Show episode "Hang in There, Scooby-Doo". Aside from the costumed identity and first name, Jonathan Jacobo barely has anything in common with Johnny, being an evil genius who creates technology capable of bringing monsters to life and having originally used the Pterodactyl Ghost disguise to rob banks, when Johnny was a person of average intelligence who used the monster disguise as part of a scheme to pirate music.
  • Sir Not-Appearing-in-This-Trailer: As Dr. Jonathan Jacobo, he is not shown in the trailers.
  • You Meddling Kids: Said by him as he is arrested.

    Patrick Wisely

Patrick Wisely

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/patsely.jpg
Portrayed by: Seth Green

The curator of the Coolsonian Criminology Museum.

  • Beware the Nice Ones: He's a genuinely nice, if somewhat awkward guy, but when his museum is being put at stake he can actually be quite threatening.
  • Large Ham: While he interrogated a man about the second museum robbery.
  • Nerd Glasses: He wears glasses and is geeky.
  • Red Herring: There are a couple of scenes that are set up to make him look like the culprit. He gets into a fight with someone outside the Faux Ghost and Velma catches him in a secret room with a lot of artifacts on Johnathan Jacobo.

    Jeremiah Wickles

Jeremiah Wickles

Portrayed by: Peter Boyle

The former identity of the Black Knight Ghost.

  • Affably Evil: Unlike Dr. Jacobo, he is aware that there is still good inside him.
  • Evil Old Folks: He's an elderly man who Mystery Inc. unmasked in the past. Because of his arrest, he has a reason to seek out revenge towards the Mystery Inc.
  • Eye Scream: He threatened to tear Mystery Inc.'s eyes out of their skulls and make them eat the eyes.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Is seen partying with the cast at the end, so he probably let bygones be bygones after the gang cleared his name.
  • Large Ham: He's quite hammy for his age.
  • Red Herring: The gang thought he was behind the costumes coming to life, but he was not behind it. In fact, Jacobo framed Wickles for it.
  • Sir Not-Appearing-in-This-Trailer: He never appears in the trailers.

    The Black Knight Ghost

The Black Knight Ghost

Portrayed by: Kevin Durand (suit actor), Bob Papenbrook (voice, film), Rob Paulsen (voice, game)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2_246.png
"You go nowhere, knave."

An Animated Armor and the second monster brought to life that the gang faces.

  • Animated Armor: He is basically an armor brought to life by The Masked Man.
  • Attack Its Weak Point: Parodied. As Daphne is frantically fighting the Black Knight, Velma is trying to decipher his weakness by reading an overly complicated paragraph in an ancient book, and when she finally figures it out, she goes ahead an... kicks him in the groin, which manages to incapacitate him.
  • Co-Dragons: He and the Pterodactyl Ghost serve as the main enforcers of The Masked Man, doing most of the dirty work for him such as stealing the suits necessary for making more monsters.
  • Cool Horse: Brings one out during the final battle with him.
  • Dark Is Evil: He's walking black armor and one of the the Dragons of The Masked Man.
  • Defeat Equals Explosion: Justified, as he was connected to a massive source of electricity that could not be contained in his body.
  • Detachment Combat: His torso is always separated from his legs, which comes in handy when Daphne tries to stab him with a lance which just passes trough the ghastly spot connecting both halves.
  • Evil Laugh: Notable because he's always laughing during all of his appearances, clearly enjoying tormenting the gang. Shaggy and Scooby even hear his laugh seconds before he is properly introduced.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: Has a pretty deep voice courtesy of Bob Papenbrook.
  • Flying Weapon: He does this with his sword while fighting Daphne in the mansion, smugly quipping "Look, no hands!".
  • Fright Beside Them: As Scooby and Shaggy barricade a door during their first encounter with him, Shaggy is handed some armor pieces. When he thanks Scooby assuming it was him, a booming voice replies, "You're welcome", and Shaggy realizes it was actually the Black Knight Ghost.
  • Groin Attack: Velma attacks the Black Knight by using this method for the gang to escape Wickles' mansion.
Black Knight Ghost: Right in the Round Tables!
    • When he is defeated, one of the jumper cable ends Fred clips onto him is attached right onto the groin piece of his armor. A very painful place for the 10,000 Volt Ghost to ground through!
  • High-Voltage Death: While this doesn't kill him, he's defeated for good when Fred and Daphne connect him to a pair of jumper cables directly into the 10,000 Volt Ghost, which electrocutes him before blowing up.
  • Logical Weakness: As he's made of metal, electricity manages to be quite effective into destroying him.
  • Mind over Matter: He's capable of controlling his sword just by thinking about it.
Black Knight Ghost: Look, no hands!
  • Oh, Crap!: Says it word by word when he's finally defeated. Or rather, only his head does.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Invokes this when Fred tries to stall him by Talking the Monster to Death. Fred claims that he's using a brutal façade to hide his true sensitive nature, to which the Black Knight replies, "You've touched my inner child... and he's really MAD!"
  • Smug Snake: He tends to be overly confident in his abilities, which drives him to toy with the gang both times they have to deal with him. Of course, this leads to his defeat every time.
  • Unusual Euphemism: Responds in pain with "Right in the round tables..." when Velma performs a Groin Attack on him.

    Pterodactyl Ghost

Pterodactyl Ghost

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2_92.png

The first monster brought to life by The Masked Man.

    Tar Monster

Tar Monster

Voiced by: Michael Sorich (film)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2_940.png
"Now you're stuck in my trap."

A monster literally made out of tar, he is one of the four that Scooby and Shaggy accidentally release.

  • Adaptational Badass: The original Tar Monster left tar tracks everywhere, but he couldn't control the tar or his shape and size. Here, the Tar Monster is a One-Man Army who can not only do those things, but is arguably one of the most dangerous and threatening monsters on the team.
  • Adaptation Dye-Job: The original Tar Monster's eye was pure green, here he has a white cornea and a blue iris.
  • Blob Monster: He's just a very big blob of tar.
  • Cyclops: Has only one eye.
  • Dark Is Evil: A monster made of black tar, and a quite menacing one at that.
  • The Dragon: Gets upgraded to this during the final battle after the Black Knight Ghost is defeated and the Pterodactyl Ghost is nowhere to be seen.
  • The Dreaded: Not as much as the Pterodactyl Ghost, but he comes closer to killing the gang than any other monster in the movie — and arguably, any other monster in the entire history of the franchise.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: Speaks with a deep voice to match his monsterous nature.
  • Icy Blue Eyes: Blue Eye anyway, but he's one of the more powerful monsters in the film and sports a blue eye.
  • Kill It with Ice: Scooby discovers that using a fire extinguisher against the Tar Monster is very effective, as it freezes and shatters its body long enough for Scooby to reach the other end of the arena.
  • Literally Shattered Lives: Scooby finishes him off by freezing him with a fire extinguisher and using said extinguisher to propel himself forward, shattering the Tar Monster into pieces. He manages to regroup himself quite fast, but by that time Scooby has already reached the control panel.
  • One-Man Army: He's this due to the nature of his powers, especially during the climax when he single-handedly incapacitates all four human members of Mystery Inc.
  • The Paralyzer: Thanks to his body being made of sticky tar, anyone coming into contact with him ends up being stuck without escape.
  • Smug Snake: Severely underestimates Scooby even when he has already seen what the dog is capable to do with the fire extinguisher, which leads to Scooby freezing him completely.
  • Sticky Situation: His tar can entrap people just by stepping onto it, making it quite effective a a paralyzing tool.
  • The Voiceless: In the video game, he doesn't have a voice.
  • Your Size May Vary: He can change his size at will, adding more tar out of nowhere to become as big as a room if necessary.

    Skeleton Men

Skeleton Men

Voiced by: Dee Bradley Baker (Red-Eyed Skeleton), Wally Wingert (Green-Eyed Skeleton)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2_453.png

A pair of skeleton henchmen that are always seen together, they are the fourth and fifth monsters to be brought to life.

  • Adaptational Comic Relief: The Skeleton Men were originally ominously eerie villains in the cartoon, but here they're a Stupid Evil duo who always fail at their objectives.
  • Adaptational Species Change: The original Skeleton Men were obviously humans wearing jumpsuits with a skeleton design on them. Here, they are literal walking skeletons.
  • Ballistic Bone: As they are chasing Velma during the climax of the film, the red-eyed skeleton detaches the head of the green one and launches it at her. It fails, leaving the head of his friend stuck in a wall.
  • Boke and Tsukkomi Routine: The red-eyed Skeleton Man is the tsukkomi to the green-eyed Skeleton Man's boke.
  • Butt-Monkey: If they appear onscreen, expect something bad to happen to them, which will surely end up in both crumbled and unable to move for a while.
  • Cyclops: Each have only one eye.
  • Dem Bones: They are literally made out of bone except for their eye and a tongue.
  • Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain: They never pose any danger to the gang, being more of a nuisance at best and always ending up destroyed before their next appearance.
  • Light Is Not Good: They are more brightly colored than some of their cohorts, but they are still on the side of evil.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: They are the most comical villains in the film, being a minor, almost harmless threat in comparison to the other more serious monsters.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: The red-eyed Skeleton Man is the smarter and more dangerous of the pair; his green-eyed partner is more goofy and laid-back. However, he is still quite incompetent.
  • The Speechless: They are capable of producing a weird babble to communicate with each other, but nothing the gang (or the audience for that matter) can understand. Occasionally a few words are discernable, like the green-eyed skeleton saying "I don't know" while trying to figure out how to descend the mountain or the red-eyed one shouting "Banzai!" as he jumps down the slope using his partner as a sled.
  • Two Beings, One Body: They end up being combined during the final battle as some sort of goofy skeletal spider, probably due to most of their bones being crushed by a falling pipe minutes before. The result manages to be even more incompetent than their separated selves.
  • Unbreakable Bones: Averted. Their body is always destroyed every time they appear, but they manage to fix it off-screen.

    10, 000 Volt Ghost

10,000 Volt Ghost

Voiced by: Terrence Stone note
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2_59.png
"END OF THE LINE, MYSTERY INC."

A giant monster made out of electricity, presumably the third monster to be brought to life.

  • Adaptational Badass: In the original cartoon, the most it was shown to do was melt a lock with a single touch. Here, it's a full-fledged electrical monster which is shown to be one of the most dangerous and can jump between electrical appliances.
  • Bring It: Invokes this when he strikes the typical pose when confronted by Daphne near the end of the film.
  • Defeat Equals Explosion: He explodes after being sucked into the Black Knight Ghost's body by a pair of jumper cables.
  • Diabolus ex Nihilo: His first scene involves him appearing out of nowhere while the gang is being chased by the monsters Shaggy and Scooby just created. A Deleted Scene had a much more proper introduction made for him, which can be found online.
  • Evil Is Hammy: The hammiest villain in the movie by a long shot. You'll never hear the 10,000 Volt Ghost quietly talking while attacking Mystery Inc.
  • Evil Sounds Raspy: His voice is a combination of raspy and "gargling" sounds product of his electrical body.
  • Fat Bastard: It's somewhat hard to spot because of his translucent body, but he's quite chubby and sports a big belly. And of course, he's evil.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Fred and Daphne use his biggest advantage —having a body made completely out of invulnerable electricity— against him by impaling a metal rod connected to a pair of jumper cables onto the monster and then connecting the other end to the Black Knight Ghost. Cue explosion.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence:
10,000 Volt Ghost: BLACKOUT! BLACKOUT! (Body get sucked through the bar and cable) BLACKOUUUUU— (BOOM!)
  • Light Is Not Good: Has a colorful design and his mere presence lits the area he's in, but he's still one of the bad guys.
  • Never Found the Body: He's the only monster that doesn't transforms back into a suit at the end, probably because he was completely blown up. Even the Black Knight Ghost's helmet survived after being part of said explosion.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: Thanks to his body being made of pure electrical power. The only thing that manages to "hurt" him is the metal bar Daphne impales him with.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: He lacks the Sickly Green Glow present in every other monster.
  • Power Glows: His mere presence is enough to brightly illuminate everything around him.
  • Psycho Electro: He's clearly psychopathic and sadistic, laughing maniacally while explicitly stating he wants to kill Mystery Inc.
  • Shock and Awe: He's made of pure electricity.
  • Villain Teleportation: He has the ability to teleport between any electrical sources. Unfortunately, this means he can appear from almost anywhere with little warning.

"I'll get you, you varmints!"

  • Adaptational Badass: He wields a pickaxe and can breathe fire from his mouth, two things he never had and couldn't do in the original cartoon.
    • In addition, the original Miner, despite his imposing appearance, wasn't all that dangerous and just simply scared people away. But this Miner is a truly dangerous and battle-ready behemoth.
  • Adaptational Ugliness: The original Miner 49er looked somewhat clean and put together as well as fit and imposing. In the film, the Miner looks less hygienic with bad teeth, a craggier face, and a massive and hairy gut hanging out from his shirt.
  • Ash Face: He gets a burnt up face after Scooby uses his fart to blow his own flames at back him.
  • Beard of Evil: He sports a long beard, befitting of a surly miner.
  • Breath Weapon: He has fire breath.
  • Creepy Blue Eyes: He has a pair of glowing blue eyes.
  • Dark Is Evil: A threatening villain who dons dark-colored clothing.
  • Evil Old Folks: Based on his appearance and voice, it's clear he's an older man.
  • Fat Bastard: He's obese and works with other the monsters who terrorize the Scooby Gang and Coolsville.
  • Fat Slob: His hair and beard are unkempt, his dental hygine is clearly poor, and his gargantuan, hair-covered belly is exposed. He's certainly not the neatest-looking guy.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: When facing off against Shaggy and Scooby, Scooby uses his own farts to blow back the Miner's fire breath right back at him.
  • Oh, Crap!: Shaggy and Scooby's reaction looking up at the Miner after bumping into his enormous paunch.
  • Stout Strength: While chasing Shaggy and Scooby, he breaks through a wooden fence without much effort.
  • Token Human: Downplayed, as he's not really human. However, he is the most human-looking monster in his group.

Captain Cutler's Ghost

Portrayed by: James Bamford (suit)

"Myyystery Iiinc..."

  • Adaptational Badass: In the original cartoon, Cutler was a Harmless Villain who faked his own death and merely scared people away. Here, he's armed with a speargun and actively tries to kill the gang with it.
  • Advertised Extra: Was on most to all of the promotional material and yet only gets one minute total of screen time.
  • Creepy Old-Fashioned Diving Suit: Keeping his look from his other appearances, he has the display of an ominous diving suit covered by seaweed with a green glow that obscures what is inside of it.
  • Oh, Crap!: His reaction when Fred backs the Mystery Machine into him, knocking him back into the lake.
  • Harpoon Gun: He wields one that can also allow chains to be attached to the spears.

    Zombie

Zombie

Portrayed by: Christopher R. Sumpton (suit actor), Dee Bradley Baker (voice)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2_63.png

  • Adaptational Comic Relief: The original Zombie was a menancing and ominous Voodoo Zombie doing the bidding of a Wicked Witch before he was unmasked. The Zombie here is much more comedic with gags of him throwing up on a reporter and getting pantsed by Scooby Doo.
  • Adaptational Ugliness: Downplayed. The original Zombie already looked monsterous, but he was arguably easier on the eyes, wore neater clothing, and stood taller with only a slight hunch in his back. The Zombie here looks much more goblin-like, wears more ragged clothing, and his hunchback is much more prominent.
  • Flat Character: Is the only one of the monsters that doesn't really do much in the movie except provide some comedic relief.
  • Gonk: Out of all the monsters, he's the one with the goofiest-looking appearance.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: He vomits at a news reporter.

  • The Alleged Boss: He was the principal, but he was overruled so many times by Bitterman that his rank seems to be for decoration.
  • Big Bad: He is the main villain of The Mystery Begins
  • Cast as a Mask: The villain's costumed identity is voiced by someone other than the actor portraying their true identity.
  • "Scooby-Doo" Hoax: Played with. He was another criminal disguised as a supernatural being, but his plan was aided by a pair of real ghosts named Ezekiel Gallows and Prudence Prufrock.
