OVA Characters

Tsuwako Tamazusa

Tsuwako was a popular actress during the silent film era. With the advent of sound films, however, her horrible voice sent her popularity plummeting to the point where she committed suicide. Ever since, her vengeful spirit has haunted the Kanzaki film studios.

• Arc Villainess: She serves as the main antagonist in the third episode of the second OVA series.
• Demonic Possession: She possesses Ogami in order to kill Sumire during the production of Crimson Lizard.
• Driven to Suicide: After her popularity went into a downward spiral, Tsuwako decided to hang herself.
• Heel Realization: When Sumire calls out Tsuwako for what she's done to herself, the latter shamefully realizes her mistake.
• It's Personal: Tsuwako deeply resents the film industry for destroying her career as an actress. However, Sumire correctly pinpoints her selfish attitude being the reason why she lost it all to begin with.
• Talking the Monster to Death: How Sumire gets her to back down complete with You Are Better Than You Think You Are.
• Tears of Remorse: At the end, Tsuwako sheds tears after Sumire makes her realize how wrong her actions were.

Count Tournell

Voiced by: Masane Tsukayama

A Frenchman of upper-class origin, he survived the events of the French Revolution by conducting alchemy experiments that allowed him to be immortal with plans to destroy Paris after the events of Is Paris Burning?. He is the main antagonist of Sakura Wars: Le Nouveau Paris.

• Hollywood Atheist: Tournell's faith in God died alongside his humanity.
• Misanthrope Supreme: Having gone through the horrors of the The French Revolution, he is determined to see humanity's demise.
• Our Homunculi Are Different: He can create powerful homunculi with enough strength to match those of demons. Too bad they instantly die when the stones powering them are destroyed.
• Philosopher's Stone: Is able to mass produce these to create homonculi and animate buildings.

MI6

Britain's external intelligence organization, French-based MI6 agents were deployed after the events of Sakura Wars 3 at the behest of their government.

Futaba Taiga (née Ogami)

Ichiro Ogami's older sister and Shinjiro's mother, Futaba is a highly skilled warrior in her own right.

• Cool Big Sis: To Ichiro.
• The Dreaded: Played for laughs; her mere presence terrifies Kayama, who's implied to still have nightmares about his days training under her.
• Dual Wielding: She was the one who taught Ichiro and Shinjiro how to fight with two swords at once.
• Early-Bird Cameo: She's mentioned offhand during Sakura's ending in 4, Ichiro receives several letters from her in the PS2 version of the first game, and Shinjiro writes a number of letters to her in V, but she doesn't appear in person until the Utau Dai New York 2 stage play and the New York NY OVA.
• The Gadfly: Very much enjoys teasing people.
• The Ghost: She's briefly mentioned in So Long, My Love and the remake of the first Sakura Wars game, as well as Fall in Love, Maidens.
• Mentor Archetype: Being a Master Swordswoman herself, Futaba trained Ichiro Ogami, Yuichi Kayama and Shinjiro Taiga to wield swords.
• Mum Looks Like a Sister: To the point where everyone but Subaru is shocked when they find out she's Shinjiro's mother.
• Open-Minded Parent: After seeing Shinjiro dressed up as Peppermint, she declares that she's fine with her son wanting to become a woman, and offers to help him become even more feminine. She already knows the true reason behind his cross-dressing and was just trolling him, but it's implied she'd be genuinely okay with her son being transgendered.
• Practically Different Generations: Implied. Futaba's specific age is unknown, but given that her younger brother is 25 whilst her son is 19, she'd almost certainly have to be over a decade older than the former.
• Promotion to Parent: She is implied to have mostly raised Ichiro on her own.
• So Proud of You: To Shinjiro after he saves her life. Also played for laughs after she sees just how close he is to the rest of the Star Division.
• Yamato Nadeshiko: Polite, adept at housework, and has a backbone of pure steel, though she's more overtly high-spirited than the usual examples (just enough to reveal where Ichiro and Shinjiro got their Hot-Blooded tendencies from).

The Big Bad of the New York NY OVA.

• Big Bad: The main antagonist of the New York NY OVA.
• The Heartless: Tries to become a literal example of this near the end of the OVA, but is stopped twice by his pet cat Bastet and Shinjiro.
• Unsettling Gender-Reveal: Inverted. He has some attraction toward Peppermint (Shinjiro in disguise) due to the latter's similarity to his late wife. However, he doesn't show anger or shock when he finds out the truth. His response is completely calm. If anything, he comes to respect Shinjiro's ability to play the part.
• Well-Intentioned Extremist: Definitely comes across as a bit more sympathetic than the typical Sakura Wars antagonist.

Sakura Wars: The Movie Characters

Brent Furlong

Voiced by: Kōichi Yamadera (Japanese), Crispin Freeman (English, as "Joseph McDougal")

The head of the American manufacturer Douglas-Stewart, he serves as the Big Bad of Sakura Wars: The Movie.

• Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: When Brent merges with the Japhkiels at the end of the film, he turns into a gigantic demon.
• Big Bad: The main antagonist of the film, Brent was responsible for almost dismantling the Imperial Combat Revue and replacing them with his army of Japhkiels.
• Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Despite being seemingly passionate about charity work, he is actually scheming to take over Tokyo.
• Bond Villain Stupidity: Not seeing the Flower Division use the waterways to enter the Imperial Theater bites him back hard.
• Character Death: He is killed by the Imperial Combat Revue at the end of the movie.
• Corrupt Corporate Executive: Those Japhkiels he's marketing? They're actually demons.
• The Evil Genius: Brent developed the Japhkiels and plans to use Douglas-Stewart to make the Imperial Combat Revue obsolete.
• Evil Is Bigger: Brent merges with the combined Japhkiels into a giant demon that towers over the Imperial Combat Revue's Koubus.
• Evil Plan: He arranged for Douglas-Stewart to exploit the Japhkiels' capabilities of fighting demons more efficiently as well as the takeover of the Imperial Theater.
• Evil Sounds Deep: Koichi Yamadera portrays Brent with a deep voice, a warning that he's definitely up to no good.
• Faux Affably Evil: He seems to be a friendly, charitable person. Too bad about his plot involving the demise of the Flower Division.
• Final Boss: He becomes the last boss the Flower Division has to face in the film.
• Greater-Scope Villain: Brent's presence is felt in École de Paris where a Pawn replica his company had developed had been bewitched by the Big Bad of Sakura Wars 3.
• Gratuitous English: In the film, some of Brent's dialogue is peppered with English, especially in the opening scenes. Averted in the English dub.
• Leitmotif: Brent is often accompanied by a dark orchestral piece featured in many of his scenes, most prominently when he's discussing his plans with Patrick and while transforming into his One-Winged Angel form.
• Manipulative Bastard: He manipulates the Japanese military to order the Flower Division on indefinite standby.
• Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: His plans to revolutionize the steam industry may be noble, but in fact he's only doing this to make the Flower Division obsolete and cause Tokyo to suffer.
• One-Winged Angel: He merges with the remaining Japhkiels, thus transforming him into a gigantic demon.
• Voice of the Legion: After going One-Winged Angel at the end of the film, Brent talks as if his body had many voices speaking at once.
• War for Fun and Profit: His ultimate goal is to revolutionize the steam industry with Japhkiels, trademarked by Douglas-Stewart.
• Weaksauce Weakness: Brent's demon form is actually weak to sound waves which Kohran takes advantage of in order to greatly cripple him.

Patrick Hamilton

• Big Bad: Acts as the main antagonist of Sakura Wars V Episode 0.
• The Dragon: He serves as Brent's right-hand man in the film.
• Gratuitous English: In the film, some of his dialogue is peppered with English, especially the opening scene. Averted in the English dub.
• Immune to Bullets: As Maria herself found out the hard way. Though he isn't immune to spiritual power bullets as he himself learned.
• Killed Off for Real: Eventually. His appearance in Episode Zero suggests that he was able to use some of his black magic to survive the events of the movie, but Gemini apparently manages to kill him off for good.
• Post-Final Boss: Patrick serves as the last antagonist when the Imperial Combat Revue kills Brent and Yoneda knocks out Tanuma at the end of the film. Maria uses a bullet filled with spirit power to finally put him down.
• Suddenly Shouting: In the film, Patrick is a mysterious person involved in the Douglas-Stewart conspiracy. However, he doesn't take it well when others know too much about Brent's plans. When he first meets Maria while she is investigating Douglas-Stewart's plans to convert the demons into Japhkiels, he shouts "You have learned too much!" before suddenly attacking her.

Haruyoshi Tanuma

Voiced by: Keiji Fujiwara (Japanese), Kirk Thornton (English, as "Ron Allen")

Tanuma is a politician and member of the Elder's Institute from Sakura Wars: The Movie. He supported the use of Japhkiels from the Douglas-Stewart Corporation.

• Corrupt Politician: He has ties to the Elder's Institute and is willing to work with Brent to make the Flower Division obsolete and safeguard Tokyo.
  • In the film's novel, he also ensured Ratchet's transfer to the Imperial Combat Revue in order to have her spy on them.
• Dirty Coward: Tanuma would rather flee from anything if it's way over his head.
• Laser-Guided Karma: Tanuma gets decked by Yoneda after the Flower Division kills Brent.
• Yes-Man: He pretty much agrees to anything Brent says.
