She looked slightly younger than Luo Binghe, lovely and adorable, her braided hair bound with orange ribbons as she ran and skipped, brimming with naivety. Every proper cultivation novel had to have a charming young shimei-type.

This young shimei inspired some complicated feelings in Shen Qingqiu. This was because he had designs on Ning Yingying— ah, no, more like the original Shen Qingqiu had designs on Ning Yingying.

The sole female disciple of Qing Jing Peak. She's Luo Binghe's childhood friend, and also serves as the first of his many love interests in the original canon of Proud Immortal Demon Way.

  • Character Development: She starts as a ditzy and well-meaning but clumsy girl who brought trouble to Luo Binghe whenever she appeared. After some time passes and Shen Qingqiu makes some changes to the plot, she becomes more mature and reliable disciple of her sect.
  • Damsel in Distress: Shen Qingqiu says that Ning Yingying's role in the original story was not only to be cute but to be a burden to Luo Binghe with hundreds of chapters of story fueled by her disappearances and blunders. In the main story, during the mission to Shuang Hu City, she refuses to return from the market at nightfall and gets kidnapped by the Skinner Demon. Thankfully, she matures and never picks up the Distress Ball again as an adult.
  • Distress Ball: Despite knowing that young women in Shuang Hu City have been getting murdered and skinned, she refuses to return from the market once evening falls and thus gets captured by the Skinner Demon. This seems to be an ongoing thing for her in the original work as Shen Qingqiu describes her as someone who digs her own grave and has a number of sudden disappearances.
  • The Ditz: The young Ning Yingying is kind, sweet, and very naive. She's unhappy that her friend Luo Binghe gets bullied by their fellow disciples, but is oblivious to how their master, the original Shen Qingqiu, encourages such behaviour. Her actions often accidentally only make things worse for Luo Binghe by fueling the other disciples' jealousy. She's also very easy to kidnap because of her lack of caution.
Ning Yingying’s role as a female character wasn’t just to be lovable and cute but also to dig her own grave and be a burden.
In the original work, the number of plot twists caused by her sudden disappearances, blunders, or other messes, had allowed Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky to drag out the plot for hundreds of chapters.
  • First Girl Wins: Downplayed. In the original story, she was the first love interest Luo Binghe meets, being his one and only friend on Qing Jing Peak. She helps him defeat his inner demons in the subplot where Luo Binghe meets Meng Mo and is then the first girl to become part of his harem. But, being a stallion novel, plenty of other girls 'win' as well.
  • First Love: She and Luo Binghe are each other's first loves in the original story with a romance blossoming between them as young Qing Jing Peak disciples. Although, that doesn't stop him from having many, many other loves alongside her. In the main story, Ning Yingying has a crush on Luo Binghe, but he never returns her affections, falling for Shen Qingqiu instead.
  • First-Name Basis: In the original Proud Immortal Demon Way, Luo Binghe calls her Yingying as she's one of his many love interests. In contrast, when he tries to call her this after accidentally falling into the revised story's universe, she asks why he wasn't respectfully referring to her as Ning-shijie, since this universe's Ning Yingying and Luo Binghe aren't nearly as close.
  • Girlish Pigtails: In her donghua interpretation, she styles her hair similar to pigtails, which fit her sweet and girly nature.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Although she's kind and means well, she's also a bit spoiled and tends to act and speak without thinking, causing hurt feelings and a lot of trouble for Luo Binghe. For example, she tells Ming Fan that Luo Binghe's jade Guanyin is prettier than the ornament he's trying to gift her and is shocked and upset when Luo Binghe gets a beating over her comment. Then, when she's almost able to convince Ming Fan to back off, she can't help but laugh when Luo Binghe gives him a bloody nose, causing Ming Fan to double down.
  • Nice Girl: She's genuinely sweet and kind, even befriending Luo Binghe when everyone else bullies him.
  • Rhyming Names: Ning Yingying
  • Undying Loyalty: Like her fellow disciples, she is extremely loyal to Shen Qingqiu. When Shen Qingqiu stands accused of a number of crimes and is on the run, Ning Yingying doesn't hesitate to defend his honour and is even ready to physically fight the Little Palace Mistress for her accusations.
  • Unwanted Assistance: Whenever she tries to help Luo Binghe out of a situation, she usually only makes his situation worse. At one point, she tries to get Ming Fan to stop beating him up, but accidentally laughs a little when Ming Fan gets punched in the nose, crushing any chance that he'd back down. At another time, she offers to have Luo Binghe ride with her when Ming Fan refuses to give him a horse, oblivious to the fact that this would only make the bullying worse due to the other disciples' jealousy.

    Ming Fan (明帆)

Voiced by (Mandarin): Hu Yi (animation)
Voiced by (Japanese): Kōtarō Nishiyama (animation)

This was the most senior of the original Shen Qingqiu's disciples, Luo Binghe's shixiong, Ming Fan. This was also the legendary lowest level of cannon fodder!

Needless to say, when it came to things like locking Luo Binghe out of the dorms late at night or feeding him false techniques on purpose, Ming Fan was the ever-present perpetrator. Whenever Shen Qingqiu felt inclined to torment Luo Binghe, Ming Fan was always his most useful assistant and most enthusiastic supporter.

  • Always Someone Better: To Shen Qingqiu's surprise, he finds that Ming Fan is actually a very efficient and intelligent helper to him in all matters not relating to the protagonist. Nonetheless, he's destined to be overshadowed by Luo Binghe in every way—in his cultivation, the affections of his crush, and ultimately, Luo Binghe becomes Shen Qingqiu's favourite disciple, to the point where Ming Fan laments to himself that he can't even serve Shen Qingqiu a single mouthful of congee.
  • The Bully: His main role in the original work is to make life miserable for Luo Binghe, egged on by the original Shen Qingqiu. He initially acts the same way after Shen Yuan's transmigration but eventually grows out of the role.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: In the original story, Luo Binghe throws him into a pit full of ants that bite him to death.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Although he takes pleasure in bullying Luo Binghe and is envious of him, he never wants him dead and is saddened to hear of his "demise" in the Immortal Alliance Conference.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Ming Fan bullies Luo Binghe not only because he's jealous of the other's natural talent, but also because Ning Yingying is interested in Luo Binghe and not him. Later he gets to add his master's favour and the Zheng Yang sword onto the list of things he curses Luo Binghe for taking.
  • Hidden Depths: In spite of his role as The Bully in the original story, Shen Qingqiu notes that Ming Fan does tick all the marks of an ideal disciple and even remarks that had it not been for him crossing Luo Binghe, he would have a bright future waiting for him. It's also revealed later that he may have some skills in brewing tea as his family runs a tea farm which allows him to pick the best leaves for his shizun.
  • No Indoor Voice: The donghua depicts him as speaking very loudly most of the time.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: He starts off as a merciless bully towards Luo Binghe, but slowly grows out of it once his master is no longer encouraging such behaviour.
  • Undying Loyalty: He's incredibly loyal to his master, sometimes to his detriment as that's where he picked up his bullying ways. Even after Shen Qingqiu begins favouring Luo Binghe over him, his loyalty never falters. When Shen Qingqiu self-detonates his core, Ming Fan is utterly distraught, wanting to fight Luo Binghe even if it leads to his death. Ning Yingying convinces him otherwise, telling him that their shizun wouldn't want him to throw his life away.
  • Yes-Man: Ming Fan is a loyal and trusted subordinate to his master; he thinks highly of him and often helps look after his affairs on Qing Jing Peak. He's also unquestioningly obedient. For example, after witnessing the original Shen Qingqiu throw his tea on his new disciple Luo Binghe with no provocation, Ming Fan's only response is to warn Luo Binghe not to stop kneeling until their shizun has given him permission.
Ming Fan: Shizun is wise! If Shizun took action, that demon would be taken care of in one strike, ridding the people of evil!

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/svsss_sj.png

When faced with the protagonist, every single character acted like his total edgelord aura had devoured their intelligence— especially Luo Binghe's master, Shen Qingqiu, that idiot among idiots, scum among scum! His only purpose was to dig his own grave, and he hadn't even managed to finish before he was killed by the protagonist instead.

The Shen Qingqiu from the original Proud Immortal Demon Way web novel, the "scum villain" that Shen Yuan transmigrates into. He's Luo Binghe's master who tormented him for many years and pushed him into the Endless Abyss.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Yue Qingyuan and Qiu Haitang used to call him Xiao Jiu ('Xiao' being a common diminutive meaning little in Chinese).
  • An Arm and a Leg: He was turned into a human stick by Luo Binghe, losing his arms, legs and even his tongue.
  • Arranged Marriage: Qiu Jianluo betroths him to his little sister, Qiu Haitang, because he doesn't want her to be married off to another household. Unaware of her brother's control and abuse of Shen Jiu, she believed they were genuinely in love.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Downplayed. While he may not have truly felt anything romantic towards her, she was the only one in the Qiu family who treated him kindly. When he sets their manor ablaze, he takes the time to drag her fainted body outside to safety.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: He puts on the image of a calm and collected immortal master, but is petty, cruel, and abusive towards talented young disciples like Luo Binghe, making him a Hate Sink in the original Proud Immortal Demon Way.
Since on the surface he looked pure-hearted, free of desire, and immune to wicked temptations, then beneath that surface he had to be immoral, shameless, scummy, and despicable.
  • Break His Heart to Save Him: When he realized too late that Yue Qingyuan had been nothing but lenient towards him since he joined the Cang Qiong Mountain Sect as atonement for not being able to rescue him from the Qiu family in time, Shen Jiu forgave his old friend but also pushed him away in the hopes that Yue Qingyuan would be spared from Luo Binghe's wrath. Unfortunately, it doesn't work as Luo Binghe is able to lure Yue Qingyuan to his death by sending him Shen Jiu's severed legs.
  • Broken Bird: Shen Jiu is a cynical, stoic Jerkass thanks to his Dark and Troubled Past as a slave child. The harsh conditions, abuse, and his apparent abandonment by his only friend lead to him becoming bitter, self-hating, and ready to lash out at exceptional disciples like Luo Binghe who he feels were unfairly given love and opportunities that Shen Jiu never had.
  • Childhood Friends: He and Yue Qingyuan were both raised together as part of the same "batch" of slave children. Their names as children, Shen Jiu and Yue Qi, are the Chinese words for nine and seven respectively. They're forced apart when Shen Jiu is sold to the Qiu family and Yue Qi runs away to cultivate, promising to return and rescue Shen Jiu once he's a cultivator. Unfortunately, he returns too late, and their friendship is destroyed by his apparent abandonment of Shen Jiu.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: In the original Proud Immortal Demon Way, Luo Binghe gradually takes Shen Jiu's limbs, tongue, and an eye as part of his vengeance towards his abusive teacher. He's left as a "human stick", hanging from a ring around his waist. It's unknown how long his torture lasts, but at some point he dies.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Shen Jiu grew up a slave who begged on the streets (alongside childhood friend Yue Qi) before being bought by the wealthy Qiu family. He was often beaten and abused by Qiu Jianluo, the young master of the house. Meanwhile, Yue Qi escaped, promising to become a cultivator and one day come back for him. Years of waiting proved fruitless and Shen Jiu eventually escaped by himself, killing Qiu Jianluo and any man he came across before burning down Qiu manor. He became the disciple of infamous rogue cultivator Wu Yanzi, under whom he lived a life of murder and crime. When he met Yue Qi again at the Immortal Alliance Conference, he killed his master in order to save Yue Qi. But Yue Qi, now Yue Qingyuan, refused to explain why he had never come back for him, leading Shen Jiu to believe that he had been abandoned. The trauma and abuse he suffered shaped him into a bitter, cynical, and self-hating person. He also developed a phobia of men, often going to brothels to sleep because he found comfort in women.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He has a very sharp tongue, often responding with cold snark and venom. As one of his fellow peak lords complains, "when he spoke, it was all needles concealed in silk floss, full of biting sarcasm".
  • Does Not Like Men: Thanks to the abuse he suffered under Qiu Jianluo, Shen Jiu frequents brothels so that he doesn't have to sleep around men.
  • The Dog Bites Back: After suffering the Qiu family's abuse for too long, he has enough and retaliates by going on a killing spree, starting with his main tormentor, Qiu Jianluo. He then burns the entire manor down.
  • Driven by Envy: He makes Luo Binghe's time as his disciple a living hell simply because he was envious of his talent and circumstances. Upon meeting Luo Binghe, he learns that he had a kind mother. That, alongside the fact that Luo Binghe is at the best age to start cultivating, is enough for Shen Jiu to pour his tea over the child's head. Shen Jiu himself grew up a slave, and his cultivation potential was stunted by the abuse he suffered as well as missing the optimal age window.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Shen Jiu is a Sadist Teacher who abused his disciple Luo Binghe out of jealousy. According to Shen Yuan, he also caused the death of his shixiong, Yue Qingyuan. It's revealed in the extras that the two were Childhood Friends, and though they had long fallen out over Yue Qingyuan's broken promise to Shen Jiu, he ultimately forgives Yue Qingyuan and even tries to keep him safe from Luo Binghe by driving him away. Luo Binghe is the one who kills Yue Qingyuan and Shen Jiu is distraught when presented with proof of his death.
  • Fate Worse than Death: In the donghua, rather than the Cruel and Unusual Death he suffers in the novel, the original Shen Qingqiu is forced to live the rest of his life trapped inside a pickle pot. Shen Yuan decides that he'd rather try to run away than suffer such a fate, even after the System tells him he'll die if he does that. He's only convinced to stay when the System tells him it's possible to avoid that ending.
  • Hate Sink: In the original story, since his backstory was never revealed, he existed purely to be hated by the audience by acting as the "scum villain" for Luo Binghe to conquer. He's a Sadist Teacher who is Driven by Envy to abuse Luo Binghe, amongst many other crimes. Subverted in the main story and extras where his Dark and Troubled Past is revealed and it's shown that some of the accusations against him were false, painting Shen Jiu in a more sympathetic light.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: As a disciple and later the Peak Lord of Qing Jing Peak, Shen Jiu is skilled at putting on a high and noble facade. In reality, he's extremely insecure about his cultivation, as despite his high potential, he missed the best years for cultivation and his natural bases were damaged by the abuse he suffered. Hence, he's extremely jealous of talented cultivators like Liu Qingge and Luo Binghe. He also exhibits a lot of self-loathing, believing that he must have been "rotten from birth" because of his vile and hateful thoughts.
  • Longhaired Pretty Boy: He has long hair, befitting of the setting, and is described to be fine-featured and slender, with a perfectly youthful appearance thanks to his cultivation. Shen Yuan decides that he "could more or less be considered beautiful" and that he's "certainly many times better-looking than Shen Yuan’s headcanon for him."
  • Mirror Character: Shen Jiu shares a lot of characteristics with the original Luo Binghe, in part because of his own mistreatment of him. Both had difficult upbringings which involved growing up on the streets and being abused by authority figures. They took violent revenge on their abusers and found their way to power. But despite their success, their trauma shaped them into bitter, unhappy people. The main story's Luo Binghe didn't suffer as much abuse thanks to Shen Yuan's transmigration into Shen Qingqiu, but he also shares with Shen Jiu the issue of having deep misunderstandings between themselves and the person they care about the most. Shen Yuan regrets his failure to properly communicate with Luo Binghe, realising that it's brought them unnecessary tragedy, much like it did for Shen Jiu and Yue Qingyuan.
  • Outgrowing the Childish Name: After Shen Jiu receives the name Shen Qingqiu, he's quick to snap at Yue Qingyuan whenever he calls him "Xiao Jiu", which was his Affectionate Nickname for him when growing up. He sees his new name as a representation of his "shining new life".
  • Pet the Dog: In the "Airplane's Fortuitous Encounter" extra, Shang Qinghua advises Shen Jiu that if he ever sees anyone in a qi deviation, he shouldn't panic and rush to save them, and to call for help instead. This implies that Shen Jiu didn't actually kill Liu Qingge in the original story, but was trying to stop the qi deviation and failed.
  • The Promise: He had Yue Qingyuan to promise to come back and rescue him from the Qiu manor was he was strong enough. When he doesn't and Shen Jiu ends up killing most of the Qiu household on his own, he had turns bitter towards his former friend.
  • Sadist Teacher: He makes his student Luo Binghe's life on Qing Jing Peak absolute hell, regularly stringing him up in the woodshed and whipping him, making him do menial labor without the proper tools, encouraging the other students to bully him, and giving him only the barest rudiments of an education. And all that was before pushing Luo Binghe into the Endless Abyss, a literal hell dimension. In the canon Proud Immortal Demon Way timeline, Luo Binghe returns to take brutal vengeance.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He's the main catalyst for the original Luo Binghe's rise to power by pushing him into the Endless Abyss, but is almost a footnote in the rest of Luo Binghe's story afterwards. For Shen Yuan, his past actions spur the transmigrator to avoid the original's gruesome fate of being turned into a human stick.
  • Uncertain Doom: While both Shen Yuan and the readers more or less see him as dead, it wasn't truly disclosed what happened to the original Shen Qingqiu's soul once his body was vacated. Shen Yuan even briefly considers the idea that Shen Jiu's soul might have gone through a similar experience as he did—implying something similar to his transmigration, but in the end, it's something that he'll probably never know.
  • We Used to Be Friends: After reuniting with Yue Qingyuan at the Immortal Alliance Conference, he asks him why he never came back for him, only to receive no answer. From then on, as Shang Qinghua describes it, "if these two struck up a conversation, they would inevitably part on bad terms by the fifth exchange." Eventually, Shen Jiu appears to forgive Yue Qingyuan within his heart, but decides to drive him away for his own sake.
  • Wouldn't Hit a Girl: When he goes on a killing spree through Qiu manor, he spares all the women he crosses paths with. Justified in that because he was abused by Qiu Jianluo and could only find safety with his sister, Qiu Haitang, he Does Not Like Men and finds comfort and safety in the arms of women. It's also mentioned that he once had an older sister figure amongst their group of slaves as a child, but she was sold to an old man to be his second wife.
  • You Are Number 6: His name, Jiu, is Mandarin Chinese for "nine", as the slavers who initially owned him and Yue Qi (seven) numbered their slaves rather than naming them.

In the days of Shen Qingqiu's recuperation following his awakening from that inexplicable fever, Yue Qingyuan came to visit him many times. As the sect leader of the world's foremost major cultivation sect — which might be likened to being the principal of a comprehensive cultivtion university — his workload had to be heavy. Yet he was still so considerate to his shidi. As a stranger in a strange land, Shen Qingqiu practically wanted to shed tears of gratitude.

That the original flavor had actually turned on such a kind superior and fellow disciple that he had breached their brotherly covenant just like that — it just made clear how much of a scumbag he was!

The leader of the Cang Qiong Mountain Sect.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Before they were separated, Shen Jiu would refer to him as Qi-ge, 'ge' meaning older brother in Mandarin.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Yue Qingyuan is doting and protective of Shen Qingqiu, reminding him of his two older brothers back when he was Shen Yuan. Being the eldest in his group of slave children, Yue Qingyuan felt an obligation to be a big brother figure to all the others, but he was closest to the original Shen Qingqiu, then known as Shen Jiu. He pushes himself too hard in his haste to become a strong cultivator and rescue Shen Jiu from slavery, causing his life force to become tied to his sword.
  • Cast from Hit Points: His sword, Xuan Su, is immensely powerful but also consumes Yue Qingyuan's life force every time he uses it.
  • Childhood Friends: He and Shen Jiu lived together as slave children, begging on the streets, before Shen Jiu is bought by the Qiu household and Yue Qi runs away to become a cultivator. While their friendship seems to have ended on Shen Jiu's part, Yue Qingyuan still looks out for the other. Even after Shen Yuan's transmigration, he's extremely lenient towards any of his actions.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: In the original Proud Immortal Demon Way book, Yue Qingyuan died from being pierced by so many poisoned arrows that not even his bones remained after falling into a trap set by Luo Binghe. Luo Binghe provoked him by sending him the original Shen Qingqiu's legs and a letter written in his blood.
  • Implausible Deniability: He attacks other cultivators who are ostensibly on his side when they try to attack Shen Qingqiu for standing with Luo Binghe. His excuse is that he has bad eyes. Nobody buys it.
  • The Leader: The sect leader of Cang Qiong Mountain Sect. He's levelheaded and well-respected, though his favouritism towards Shen Qingqiu sometimes hampers his decision making. When the sects gather at Mai Gu Ridge, Yue Qingyuan, with his reputation as "a capable pillar during times of crises", becomes the de facto leader and begins coordinating everyone.
  • My Greatest Failure: He regrets not coming back to the Qiu Manor in time to save Shen Jiu, who eventually managed to escape by himself and never forgave Yue Qingyuan for his perceived abandonment. He stays by Shen Jiu's side despite the other's contempt and aggression towards him. The failure teaches Yue Qingyuan to be less impulsive, as his impulsiveness was what first got Shen Jiu bought by the Qiu family as well as what made him too late to save him. Later, however, he reflects that he may have swung too hard the other way, as he regrets not acting more impulsively to protect Shen Qingqiu in Jin Lan City and Luo Binghe's siege of the mountain. In the original Proud Immortal Demon Way, he steps into an obvious trap and is killed trying to save Shen Jiu in an attempt to make up for his past failure.
  • Nice Guy: He's a kind person who wants to do what he can to protect his sect and Shen Qingqiu. Shen Qingqiu calls him a bleeding heart and Shang Qinghua comments that his kindness gets him taken advantage of.
  • The Promise: He had promised to come back and rescue Shen Qingqiu from the Qiu family once he was strong enough as a cultivator. Unfortunately, he's unable to make it back in time, leading to his falling out with Shen Qingqiu.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He's one of the more reliable adults in the story and does his best to make sure justice is properly distributed.
  • Undying Loyalty: He's incredibly loyal to Shen Jiu, to the point that he's willing to look past a lot of Shen Qingqiu's actions with the front that they will discuss this later when really he's just looking the other way. After seeing Shen Jiu's past, it's made more clear why he's so lenient towards his former childhood friend who seems to have only treated him with contempt before Shen Yuan transmigrated. It's because of his loyalty to Shen Jiu that the original Luo Binghe used it to his disadvantage and what ultimately got him killed.
  • Walk on Water: He's able to walk on water in the donghua.

Undefeatable in battle, an arrogant disposition, and an attractive face. With Bing-ge around, a secondcharacter in the same mold was unnecessary. No wonder "Great Master" Airplane had offed him so early.

Not even the protagonist, yet you dare to share those qualities? Of course you'd be either exceptional cannon fodder or dead in seconds!

Few details existed on Liu Qingge, but he played a very important role in highlighting the depths of Shen Qingqiu's general scumminess.

The lord of Bai Zhan Peak.

  • Ascended Extra: In-Universe. Since he doesn't die in the Ling Xi Caves like he does in the original story, he has a bigger role to play, and even becomes one of Shen Qingqiu's most steadfast allies. From easily beating Sha Hualing's army, fighting for Shen Qingqiu's corpse from Luo Binghe and fighting Tianlang-Jun, he's given more to do since he wasn't Killed Offscreen.
  • Blood Knight: He's the Peak Lord of Bai Zhan Peak, the most warlike and martial focused peak. He spends most of his time away from the sect, in search of opponents to fight.
  • Chaste Hero: Word of God is that Liu Qingge has no sexual or romantic interest for anyone in the story, as he's so much of a Blood Knight that he's focusing all his energies on being the World's Best Warrior.
  • Determinator: He fights Luo Binghe over and over again for five years, never giving up on trying to retrieve Shen Qingqiu's corpse.
  • Expecting Someone Taller: Shen Qingqiu imagined the Bai Zhan War God as physically intimidating, with sharp facial features. He's quite surprised when he sees Liu Qingge looks so pretty and cute, with the narration openly admitting he could be a delicate young poet plucking flowers.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: He has an incredibly short fuse, and it's almost nonexistent when Luo Binghe is around, to the point where, in the extras, he seems ready to fight Luo Binghe on sight. It's mentioned that both he and Qi Qingqi are unable to "tolerate the slightest offense and would explode at the smallest thing".
  • Innocently Insensitive: Liu Qingge's attempt to console Shen Qingqiu after Luo Binghe's "death" is to tell him that he can always accept more disciples. Shen Qingqiu is annoyed, despite knowing that he means well.
  • I Owe You My Life: After Shen Qingqiu saves him from his qi deviation in Ling Xi Caves, Liu Qingge returns the favour by saving Shen Qingqiu during a demonic invasion, bluntly informing Shen Qingqiu that he's repaying his debt. Liu Qingge soon becomes Shen Qingqiu's stalwart friend.
  • Killed Offscreen: His death is only mentioned to have happened offscreen in the original novel with Shen Qingqiu being the sole witness and thus the sole suspect in what was seen as Liu Qingge's murder. This is averted in the main story.
  • Longhaired Pretty Boy: The donghua and book illustrations depict him as having a high ponytail. Shen Qingqiu describes his face to be "as beautiful as a fine woman's" and is heavily disappointed by this, as he'd been expecting someone much manlier looking.
  • No Social Skills: Liu Qingge spends most of his time away from the sect, searching for opponents to fight. It's no surprise that his social skills are lacking. He tries to console Shen Qingqiu after Luo Binghe's "death" by telling him he can always accept new disciples. He also gifts Shen Qingqiu live monsters which apparently taste very good, though Shen Qingqiu isn't eager to try it and his disciples don't have the heart to kill them.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: While Liu Qingge is tough and blunt with his words, his little sister is graceful and polite.
  • Sink or Swim Mentor: Downplayed. Liu Qingge is Peak Lord of Bai Zhan Peak, and unlike the other peaks that select their disciples, Bai Zhan disciples must come to the peak on their own and "prepare [themselves] for a beating". Even after becoming a disciple, they're expected to train on their own, but Liu Qingge will show up once in a while to give them some experience via beating them all up.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He and his sister share similar features and are both noted to be very attractive. Beauty must really run in the Liu family.
  • Tsundere: After saving Shen Qingqiu's life, he clarifies that he's doing so to repay his life-debt, prompting Shen Qingqiu to call him a tsundere in his thoughts. While he remains blunt and aggressive, he's a loyal friend who protects Shen Qingqiu no matter the circumstance, and he's constantly returning Shen Qingqiu's misplaced fans.
  • Undying Loyalty: Liu Qingge becomes fiercely loyal towards Shen Qingqiu after Shen Qingqiu saves him from his qi deviation in Ling Xi Caves. He fights Luo Binghe countless times over the course of five years to try and reclaim Shen Qingqiu's corpse. He's always prepared to protect him, even against all the other sects at Zhao Hua Monastery.
  • World's Best Warrior: Downplayed. Liu Qingge is said to be the strongest cultivator from the Cang Qiong Mountain Sect, the foremost sect in cultivation, with the reputation of being an "undefeatable war god". However, he naturally still can't hold a candle to the overpowered protagonist that is Luo Binghe.
  • Wouldn't Hit a Girl: Liu Qingge only knows how to interrogate people by beating them up, and it's mentioned that he has difficulty doing so to Sha Hualing because she's a woman. But averted in the "Recalling an Experience of Fighting Succubi with Great Master Liu" extra where he doesn't have any trouble cutting down waves of succubi, possibly due to his enraged state at the time.

    Yang Yixuan (杨一玄)
Liu Qingge's first disciple and the son of a the man who runs the Finely-Crafted Weapons shop.
  • Alliterative Name: Yang Yixuan.
  • I Got Bigger: After Shen Qingqiu comes back to life, he notices how much taller and older Yang Yixuan has become and initially doesn't recognize the young man.
  • Cruel to Be Kind: He attempts to stop Shen Qingqiu and his group from entering Jin Lan City, yelling at them and even attacking them with a spear, not out of malice, but because he doesn't want anyone else catching the plague that has overtaken the city.

Xian Shu Peak | 仙姝峰

    Qi Qingqi (齊清萋)

Voiced by: Wu Di (animation)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/svsss_qqq_7.png

This woman with beautiful eyebrows, a full chest, and thick, gorgeous hair was Xian Shu Peak's master, Qi Qingqi.

In the original work, Qi Qingqi and Shen Qingqiu had no real relationship and very few interactions. However, these years, Shen Qingqiu had occasionally worked with her. He found her straightforward and fierce, and got along with her decently well.

The lord of Xian Shu Peak.

  • Alliterative Name: Qi Qingqi.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Qi Qingqi always has a biting comment ready, especially when she's around Shen Qingqiu. In her very first scene, she criticizes Shen Qingqiu for being a "big, strong man" riding in the carriage with her and asks him if he'll "also be needing someone to serve him snacks later".
  • Graceful Ladies Like Purple: She's the master of the all-female Xian Shu Peak, and her donghua design has her wearing purple robes.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: It's mentioned that both she and Liu Qingge are unable to "tolerate the slightest offense and would explode at the smallest thing". She especially likes to criticize Shen Qingqiu, who notes at one point that she "never let a chance to lecture him pass her by."
  • Perpetual Frowner: She's never really described with a smile on her face, and most of her appearances in the donghua show her frowning in some way.
  • Prim and Proper Bun: Her design in the donghua has her wearing a bun, befitting of her blunt and no-nonsense personality.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Downplayed. She may throw barbs at Shen Qingqiu, but she doesn't hate him and the two have some respect for each other. When Shen Qingqiu's accused of spreading Jin Lan City's plague, she's immediately up to defend his innocence. After he comes back to life, she is clearly glad to see he didn't really die. Shen Qingqiu seems to reciprocate what he would consider playful banter between them and only sees the two of them as friendly acquaintances.

Sword: Shui Se | 水色

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/svsss_lmy.png

Liu Mingyan was a great beauty— a heaven-and-earth-shattering great beauty at the sight of whom both gods and ghosts would weep. Even though she belonged to Xian Shu Peak, which had produced generations of beautiful women since ancient times, her existence was still a crane among chickens, rising above and beyond them all.

The head disciple of Xian Shu Peak and Liu Qingge's younger sister.

  • Cool Mask: Shen Qingqiu is never able to get a glimpse of what's under her veil; in the brief moment that Liu Mingyan's face is unveiled, the veil is back on just as Shen Qingqiu is about to see her face up-close. The veil and the mystery behind her face makes her all the more cool.
  • Lady of War: Shen Qingqiu describes her as cool and elegant, radiating an atmosphere of integrity. She's also a capable cultivator, ranking second for most of the Immortal Alliance Conference until Luo Binghe shoots past both her and Gongyi Xiao at the last second.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: Liu Mingyan and Sha Hualing are Proud Immortal Demon Way's two most important female leads. One is a righteous disciple of Cang Qiong Mountain Sect with a face is so beautiful that it must be hidden beneath a veil, giving her an air of purity and modesty. The other is a demon saintess known for her proud and aggressive nature, scantily clad in gauzy red cloth. The story sets up a rivalry between the two; they duel during Sha Hualing's invasion of Qiong Ding Peak and both take an interest in Luo Binghe after he wins his own duel. Later in the story, when Liu Mingyan is captured by Sha Hualing, Sha Hualing takes a look at her bare face—and immediately tries to slash it up. Presumably, this goes further in Proud Immortal Demon Way, but is foiled in the actual story by Luo Binghe's complete lack of interest in either woman.
An evil demoness naturally demanded a righteous saintess as a rival. Every man dreamed of being caught between an angel and a devil.
  • Shipper on Deck: In the extras, Liu Mingyan is revealed to write smut of Luo Binghe and Shen Qingqiu. She even has some fans.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: While she's calm and graceful in most of her appearances, her older brother Liu Qingge is headstrong and at times brash.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: She and her brother share a lot of similar features and are both noted to be very attractive.
  • World's Most Beautiful Woman: She's said to be so beautiful that she has to cover her face with a veil.
  • Yaoi Fangirl: She turns out to be the author behind the Luo Binghe/Shen Qingqiu story Resentment of Chunshan, and the details are...very explicit and full of fanfiction tropes.

An Ding Peak | 安定峰

Shang Qinghua (尚清华) — Warning: Walking Spoiler

Aliases: 《Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky》 | 向天打飛機, Airplane Bro

Long ago, Shang Qinghua had been only one of An Ding Peak's many insignificant and nameless disciples. Then he'd been captured by the demons, who had forced him to become a mole.

Ah no, he hadn't really been forced— he happily took on the important task of being a mole without even a hint of discomfort.

Secretly backed by the demons, Shang Qinghua's road became smooth sailing. He swiftly rose through the ranks until he actually obtained the position of Peak Lord of An Ding Peak.

The lord of An Ding Peak.

Tropes that apply to the original Shang Qinghua:

Tropes that apply to Shang Qinghua in the main story:

  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: The first thing he does when he's pushed in front of Mobei-Jun so the other disciples could run away? Grab onto the demon king's thigh and refuse to let go as he cries for mercy.
  • Ascended Extra: In-Universe. His original role was cannon fodder that ended up being killed by Mobei-Jun, but in the main story, his role is greatly extended, because the author himself transmigrated into this character.
  • Becoming the Mask: He literally had to be reborn to become Shang Qinghua, and he even seems to have adopted Shang Qinghua as his permanent identity as he never reveals his original name.
  • Cowardly Lion: As the author of the world he only does what he can to survive and is only roped into Shen Qingqiu's antics when the other practically forces him. Most of the time when something dangerous comes his first action is to either hit the ground or try to hide behind someone stronger than him. However, he's shown a more courageous side when Mobei-Jun is tossed off a cliff and he immediately flies towards him on his sword, saying that he couldn't fly and catches him. He also pulls a sneak attack on Linguang-Jun who was attempting to kill Mobei-Jun.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: In the "Airplane" extras, it's implied he only found joy in his writing which he used to escape his dreary and lonely home life.
  • Euphemistic Names: He wrote under the name Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky. 'Beating one's airplane' is Chinese slang for masturbation.
  • Freudian Excuse: After reading the "Airplane" extras, it becomes a bit easier to see how he may have vented some of his feelings into his work. Such as Bingge not having his parents there for him, and despite getting revenge on those who wronged him, conquered any land he wished and amassed an enormous harem, he'd never truly be satisfied as none of these things would truly make him happy since what he truly craves is love and acceptance.
  • Genre Savvy: As the novel's author, it's a given that he's aware of what tropes to avoid or invoke after getting transmigrated in his own novel. This gets used the most during the "Airplane" extras where he manages to use his knowledge of demon history to stall Linguang Jun from killing Mobei Jun during his inaugural ceremony.
  • Giver of Lame Names: As the author, he's responsible for all the overly literal, repetitive, and punny names for all the characters, flora, and fauna in Proud Immortal Demon Way. Fittingly, his own names, Airplane Shooting Towards The Sky and Shang Qinghua, are respectively a dick joke of a Porn Name and a punny Take That! to a universitynote .
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Downplayed. In the "Airplane" extras, he shows envy towards the Happily Married life that Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe have after the events of the main plot.
  • Has a Type: He literally wrote Mobei-Jun as his ideal man. In the "Airplane" extras he even notes that he was excited to meet Mobei-Jun who turned out more handsome than he ever could have expected.
  • Her Code Name Was "Mary Sue": According to Shang Qinghua himself, his webnovel's protagonist, Luo Binghe, was written to fulfill his desire to "be a badass and get revenge", as well as some other "wanton" desire. He also wrote in Mobei-Jun to be his ideal man and the man he'd dreamed of becoming: "strong, cool, doing as he pleased".
  • High-Voltage Death: The way he transmigrated. In a state of panic at accidentally spilling his noodles over his computer and worrying it would delete all of his work, he clumsily forgot his hands were soaked as he tried to plug his computer in and out to fix it, leading to his demise.
  • I Choose to Stay: In the "Airplane" extras, Shang Qinghua is eventually given an option by the System to return to his original world. After some consideration, he chooses not to.
  • The Mole: He serves as a mole for the Demon Realm in exchange for his rise to power in the Cang Qiong Mountain Sect.
  • Non-Action Guy: He has the abilities of a cultivator, but isn't as skillful compared to his other comrades. His main strength is paperwork, that others like to load him with.
  • No Name Given: Unlike with Shen Qingqiu, his real name before his transmigration is never revealed. Given that he transmigrated into Shang Qinghua as a baby and had to go through life anew, he likely took up Shang Qinghua as his name and left his old one behind.
  • Oblivious to Love: To be fair, his king's "love" is hard for him to decipher. Yet when discussing with Luo Binghe on how to court Shen Qingqiu, Mobei-Jun's suggestion was to "hit the person you like three times a day", which happens to Shang Qinghua. Then when Shang Qinghua suggests Luo Binghe act pathetic to get Shen Qingiu's attention, Mobei-Jun asks if it works and when Shang Qinghua confirms, he pats him on the head. It takes him leaving Mobei-Jun's side and later saving him from Linguang-Jun to realize Movie-Jun is in love with him.
  • Online Alias: The author's online pen name is Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky.
  • Only in It for the Money: The reason why Proud Immortal Demon Way is the crappy and overly-cliched stallion novel Shen Qingqiu decries it to be is because it's easy money. This is deconstructed, however, since Shang Qinghua admits that his plans for the novel's plot were entirely different and he did want to want write a genuinely good novel. However, he also needed money to pay the bills and knew that the easiest and fastest way to make money was to pander to his readers' wants, even if it meant hampering the novel's potential and using all the cheapest cliches possible — because it's what his fans are willing to pay money for.
  • Parental Neglect: His parents divorced when he was young and he rarely saw either of them anymore. He even notes that his father who may be his legal guardian only spoke to him through phone calls mainly to ask if he needed money.
  • Precision F-Strike: When he sees Mobei-Jun appear to meet with Luo Binghe, he breaks his composure and drops an F-bomb. Unfortunately, it was in English, which lead to Shen Qingqiu to start questioning his true identity and lead him to discover he was the author himself, Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky.
  • Rage Breaking Point: He endures a lot of Mobei-Jun's abuse, but once it becomes too much (as seen in the "Airplane" extra) he finally gives the demon king a piece of his mind before saying that he's leaving and won't be back. This leaves Mobei-Jun stunned and enraged and Shang Qinghua quickly leaves the ice palace soon afterwards.
  • Reclusive Artist: In-Universe. In the "Airplane" extras he says that if he wasn't writing he was a shut-in, and if he was writing he was a shut-in.
  • Seen It All: He seemed completely unsurprised that his stallion protagonist became a cutsleeve, all things considering his original plot.
  • Sell-Out: Shen Qingqiu accuses him of selling out, as he feels Shang Qinghua catered too much to his audience's wishes on writing a wish-fulfillment fantasy through Luo Binghe and endless smut between him and his ever-growing harem wives instead of creating a compelling story. It's implied that the new story created by Shen Qingqiu's actions is more in line with what Shang Qinghua wanted to write, which he's happier with. He doesn't deny this insult when Shen Qingqiu throws it at him as he points out he had to make a living, and the stories he wanted to write weren't getting popular enough so he had to switch to something else that would grab larger audience.
  • Snark-to-Snark Combat: In the donghua it's implied that before Shen Yuan transmigrated Airplane was having in an argument with him in the comment section. He calls Shen Yuan out for buying every chapter that came out despite Shen Yuan being extremely critical towards his work and saying everyone who read it was an idiot.
  • Stepford Smiler: Tries to constantly put on a cheerful expression whenever he's present in front of someone. Expanded on in the "Airplane" extras where he put on a happy expression because his home life was incredibly lonely and it's implied he did this as a form of coping.
No matter where he was, or who he was talking to, all he did was smile that familiar subservient smile.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: He has worse luck than Shen Qingqiu when it came to their transmigration adventures, but he does eventually get together with the character whom he based on his ideal man. Very few people could claim they're an item with the literal person of their dreams.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: He's noted to usually be snacking on melon seeds. Shen Qingqiu even uses Shang Qinghua's snack to leave and trail and track where they were during one of their missions.
  • Undignified Death: In the "Airplane" extras, it's revealed he had accidentally spilled his instant noodles onto his laptop, causing him to attempt to try and save his computer files by unplugging the chord, leading to him getting shocked and then transmigrating.
  • Undying Loyalty: Being Mobei-Jun's constant punching bag aside, if his king is ever in a situation where his life is in danger, Shang Qinghua never hesitates to save him.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Downplayed. Shang Qinghua may argue and complain about Shen Qingqiu's ideas, but he will back him up and help him as he jokes that they're both from the same hometown so they should help the other out.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's incredibly hard to discuss Shang Qinghua in anyway without revealing that he's the author of Proud Immortal Demon Way, Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky.

Qian Cao Peak | 千草峰

    Mu Qingfang (木清芳)

Voiced by: Chen Wei (animation)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/svsss_mqf.png

The lord of Qian Cao Peak.
  • Flat Character: He can essentially be summed up as the "doctor" character. In just about every scene he appears in, he's there to provide medical aid or expertise.
  • The Medic: He's the Peak Lord of the medicinal peak, Qian Cao Peak, and many come to him when seeking aid for pain.
  • Non-Action Guy: Unlike most cultivators, he never shows any form of martial skill. Justified in that his skills lie in healing.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite being the Peak Lord of the medicinal peak, with a generally serious and professional personality, in the donghua, he happily writes down tabs on the people who were placing bets for the Immortal Alliance Conference.

Wan Jian Peak | 萬劍峰

Huan Hua Palace Sect | 幻花宮派

Old Palace Master (老宫主) — Warning: Walking Spoiler

Voiced by: Wang Xiaobing (animation)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/svsss_lgz.png

The sect leader of Huan Hua Palace.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Later on in the story, he shares the original Shen Qingqiu's fate of becoming a human stick.
  • Asshole Victim: The Old Palace Master is made into a human stick by Luo Binghe, then later meets a Cruel and Unusual Death via plants growing through his head. The audience is unlikely to feel any sympathy for him, considering that he had groomed Luo Binghe's mother and attempted to do the same with Luo Binghe himself.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: He presents himself as a caring, understanding old master, something akin to a grandfather figure to Luo Binghe. He's actually a manipulative groomer, and his interest in Luo Binghe is far from parental.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: He has his skull and brain crushed from within his skin by qi-consuming demonic seedlings inside the Holy Mausoleum.
  • Dirty Old Man: Implied. He was trying to groom Su Xiyan into his lover, and even drools pervertedly as he reminisces of her.
  • Driven by Envy: He directly spells out during his Villainous Breakdown that his reason for scheming to get Shen Qingqiu imprisoned in the Water Prison was because Luo Binghe refused to acknowledge anyone else as his shizun, no matter how the Old Palace Master favored him.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": He's never named and is referred to as the "Old Palace Master".
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: When Shen Qingqiu runs into him and Qiu Haitang in the Holy Mausoleum, he notices his white beard is now filthy and matted after having been deposed by Luo Binghe and turned into a human stick.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Luo Binghe cuts off all his limbs, rendering him a human stick. When Shen Qingqiu points out that Luo Binghe had at least spared his life, he tells Shen Qingqiu that he wishes he hadn't.
  • Foil: To Shen Qingqiu, especially in their nature of their Teacher/Student Romance. Shen Qingqiu became Luo Binghe's teacher by accident and was so dedicated to Binghe's happiness he was willing to throw his own life away for it. Meanwhile the Palace Master specifiacally raised Su Xiyan to one day be his lover and was deeply possesive of her to the point of sealing away her lover and then forcing her to miscarry her child, her own happiness be damned. The fact that Luo Binghe fell in love with Shen Qingqiu for his kindness while Su Xiyan was implied to have hated her master for his perverted thoughts also drives this home further.
  • Handicapped Badass: Even being turned into a human stick by Luo Binghe doesn't stop him from being one of the most powerful cultivators Shen Qingqiu's ever known. He's able to pour his immense spiritual energy into his voice and use his shouts to attack.
  • If I Can't Have You…: He was furious Su Xiyan fell in love with Tianlang-Jun, so he captured and attempted to force Su Xiyan to ingest poison to miscarry Luo Binghe. However she ends up saving her son's life and dies in the end.
  • Light Is Not Good: He wears light and brightly colored robes, but is one of the main reasons Luo Binghe never knew his parents and manipulating the other sects into believing Shen Qingqiu was consorting with demons.
  • Riches to Rags: He was one of the most wealthy and powerful cultivators, until Luo Binghe turned him into a human stick and drove him mad.
  • Smug Snake: Does a good job at manipulating events to his benefit, from rallying all the sects against Tianlang-Jun to contacting Qiu Haitang to defame Shen Qingqiu. But once he self-destructs, Luo Binghe (perhaps clued in of the old master's scheming) does away with him, painfully.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Manages to fool the entire cultivation world into believing him a righteous old master, and manipulates almost everyone into thinking his reasons for rallying against an innocent Tianlang-Jun and imprisoning Shen Qingqiu in the Water Prison are anything but just.
  • Villainous Breakdown:By the time Shen Qingqiu confronts him inside the Holy Mausoleum, he's been reduced to a ranting, drooling, hallucinating human stick. Even Qiu Haitang, who stuck by him until them, finds his babbling of Su Xiyan disgusting.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's hard to discuss the Old Palace Master without spoiling a lot of the plot and the events that lead up to the story.
  • Yandere: Was violently possessive of Su Xiyan. Consequently, this obsession carries over to Luo Binghe after he discovers he's Su Xiyan's child.

    Little Palace Mistress (小宫主)

Voiced by: Zhu Yun (animation)

The Old Palace Master's daughter.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: In the original canon she and Gongyi Xiao were supposed to be childhood lovers, but that changed once Luo Binghe came back from the Abyss.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: In the original canon, if any other woman held Luo Binghe's attention for too long, she would whip them.
  • Clothing Damage: Her whip often ripped her clothes when she was in the harem. Funnily enough, it still has this role in the altered canon — albeit with Shen Qingqiu's robes.
  • Demoted to Extra: She had plenty of scenes in the original novel as one of the few who started fights in the harem. However, in the altered canon she only has a few scenes and shows up to yell at Luo Binghe after he takes over Huan Hua palace and only mildly tolerates her presence.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Like her father, she's only known by her title and is not given a real name.
  • Fallen Princess: She was once the flower of Huan Hua Palace with her father in command. But after Luo Binghe takes over, he treats her like a "pet pig" and barely tolerates her tantrums.
  • Gilded Cage: After Shen Qingqiu's death, Luo Binghe takes complete control over the Huan Hua Palace Sect and the Little Palace Mistress is kept prisoner in the palace. As she describes, even if she still gets to do as she pleases with only the occasional grounding, she's treated no better than cattle in her own home.
  • Hate Sink: In the altered canon, she is made to be a dislikeable character since she is more focused on getting revenge on Shen Qingqiu and dragging his name through the mud so much that the Cang Qiong disciples were willing to pick a fight with her once they see her.
  • Hidden Depths: Implied. In the novel, it goes a bit more in depth at how the Little Palace Mistress may have felt guilty at turning Gongyi Xiao away in favor for Luo Binghe. It delves into her thoughts of her trying to justify her actions only to lead her to feeling more guilty and venting those emotions out by lashing out at the other harem members.
  • Light Is Not Good: She may be the daughter of a prestigious leader and dresses in light and pretty colours, but she acts like a bully towards others she looks down upon and even attempts to whip Shen Qingqiu for what he supposedely does to Luo Binghe. When Luo Binghe comes upon this, he is less than happy.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Her design in the donghua and art illustrations gives her a pink gown, emphasising her feminity.
  • Psycho Pink: She's mentioned to wear a pink gown in the webnovel when she visits the Water Prison in order to mercilessly whip a helpless Shen Qingqiu out of yandere zeal to "avenge" Luo Binghe's suffering at the Peak Lord's hands.
  • Spoiled Brat: She was spoiled heavily by her father, leading her to bully others around her, including the Cang Qiong disciples when she starts insulting their shizun. Ming Fang even outright calls her this.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: The last the reader sees of her is when she pulls a fit in Huan Hua Palace over her current predicament after Luo Binghe takes over the sect. The novel never mentions what happens to her afterwards.
  • Whip of Dominance: Fitting with her being a temperamental Spoiled Brat, her weapon of choice is a whip. In the original canon, she would use it to assert her dominance on Luo Binghe's other wives if they had his attention for too long.

    Gongyi Xiao (公儀蕭)

Voiced by: An Zhi (animation)

This Gongyi Xiao, although he looked favored and blessed, overflowing with incredible presence— actually, enh, he was at best only half a dollar better than his fellow cannon fodder.

He was the typical character trope who was handsome, of good lineage and surpassing talent, loved by girls, full of mettle, and accomplished in his youth— but unfortunately, there was also the protagonist, so he was doomed to serve as the lead's cannon fodder foil. Though most bets for top ranker had been placed on Gongyi Xiao, sorry to say, he wouldn't be first for long before Luo Binghe kicked him off the spot.

  • The Ace: He's the best junior disciple of his sect, held in high esteem by his peers and teachers, and even Shen Qingqiu comes to like him (partly because he reminded him of pre-blackening Binghe). So of course, he had to die.
  • Ascended Extra:
    • In-Universe. In the original Proud Immortal Demon Way he was nothing more than a one-shot love rival who's effortlessly displaced by Luo Binghe. His role is greatly expanded in the main story.
    • In the novel, he's only mentioned a few times during the Immortal Alliance Conference, bumps into Shen Qingqiu when he looks for the Sun and Moon Dew Flower and when he helps him escape the Water Prison. In the donghua, he gets some time in the spotlight after the Immortal Alliance Conference goes awry.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: In the original canon he was close to the Palace Mistress and the two were even supposed to be lovers until Luo Binghe showed up.
  • Fantastic Racism: When he comes across the giant snake in the cave guarding the Sun and Moon Dew Flower, he immediately attempts to strike it and is only stopped by Shen Qingqiu who points out the snake wasn't harming them, so they should leave it alone. Zhuzhi-Lang remembers Gongyi Xiao's actions and kills him off later once he tries to retrieve Shen Qingqiu.
  • Hero of Another Story: Shen Qingqiu makes constant note of Gongyi Xiao and his abilities saying that if the story were different, Gongyi Xiao could easily be put in the role of a protagonist. It's helped by the fact that he's just about loved by everyone in the cultivation world.
  • Killed Offscreen: It's when Shen Qingqiu is accused of killing Gongyi Xiao does he find out he was killed after the two had parted, and he's actually upset over the boy's death.
  • Light Is Good: He wears the white and yellow robes of Huan Hua Palace and his heart is firmly set on doing only good and protecting the innocent.
  • Nice Guy: Described as having a kind temperament, and is nothing but helpful to Shen Qingqiu, even after the latter is defamed and held hostage.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: He helps Shen Qingqiu multiple times, even though the first few he was suspicious of the Qing Jing master. He then eventually helps Shen Qingqiu escape the Water Prison but is unfortunately killed by Zhuzhi Lang offscreen because he had attempted to kill the demon earlier when he was in his snake form. Even Shen Qingqiu is surprised at the boy's sudden death.
  • Put on a Bus: In the original canon Shen Qingqiu recalls that he was sent to an isolated island far away to do tasks for Huan Hua Palace after Luo Binghe took over. His fate in the main story is less kind.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He's not instantly on board with the rest of the cultivators to lock Shen Qingqiu up on the claim that he consorted with the demons to spread the disease in Jin Lan city, is wary but helpful to him and is even still polite to the Qing Jing Peak lord when he ties him up in Immortal Binding Cable. Once he believes Luo Binghe is taking advantage of his shizun, Gongyi Xiao refuses to stand by and helps Shen Qingqiu escape.
  • Too Good for This Sinful Earth: He's kind, helpful and is beloved by everyone who knows him. So of course he has to be killed later on.

    Qin Wanyue (秦婉約)

Voiced by: Xie Ying (animation)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/svsss_qwy.png

This was the first sister who rolled in the sheets with Luo Binghe! [...] Though she wasn't much help to the protagonist’s undertaking of killing and dominating the Three Realms, she was a warm and gentle person who didn’t like infighting in the harem. What man wouldn’t like such a sister?

  • Action Survivor: Unlike her sister, she survives the demon onslaught at the Immortal Alliance Conference.
  • Big Sister Instinct: She appears to be the older of the twins as she looks out for Qin Wanrong, usually never too far away from her. She even tries to save her sister from the water demons and in the donghua attempts to lift her up and away from danger. Emphasis on tried.
  • Demoted to Extra: A harem girl with her own story arc in Proud Immortal Demon Way, she completely fades out of the story after Luo Binghe's takeover of the Huan Hua Palace in the main story.
  • Family Theme Naming: Qin Wanyue and her sister's names start with "Wan".
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: She's the level-headed and mature Responsible Sibling to Qin Wanrong's Foolish Sibling.
  • Go Out With A Bang: In the original canon, as she was dying from a poison that couldn't be cured, she requested Luo Binghe have sex with her as her dying wish. He's initially not for it but soon gives into her whims and manages to save her due to him curing her due to his status as a Heavenly Demon.
  • Hopeless Suitor: In the revised canon, she's still deeply crushing on Luo Binghe but he barely remembers her existence as he's too busy obsessing over Shen Qingqiu.
  • Must Not Die a Virgin: In the original canon after she was poisoned with no cure in sight, she begs Luo Binghe to have sex with her before she died. Luo Binghe unfortunately wasn't fully consenting and eventually gave in because he felt bad for her, which turned out to be the cure.

    Qin Wanrong (秦婉容)

Voiced by: Chen Yujin (animation)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/svsss_qwr.png

  • Cruel and Unusual Death: She's devoured by a water demon, with her remains being spat out afterwards to Qin Wanyue's horror. The donghua takes out the latter part.
  • Eaten Alive: She is eaten alive by a water demon with her remains being spat out.
  • Family Theme Naming: Qin Wanrong and her sister's names start with "Wan".
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Her Innocently Insensitive nature and her inability to carry her own weight makes her the Foolish Sibling to Qin Wanyue's Responsible Sibling.
  • The Load: Like most of the other disciples who followed Luo Binghe, she only drags them down as she has no fighting skills to speak of. This along with her ditziness leads to her death.
  • Say My Name: Her sister screams her name as she's dragged underwater in the donghua.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: She dies in the same chapter where she's introduced.

    Su Xiyan (苏夕颜)

The long-dead, former head disciple of the Huan Hua Palace.

  • Dark Action Girl: She was described as carrying a sword in the "Zhuzhi-Lang" extras, wore dark robes and was the head disciple of the Huan Hua Palace.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: She was described as wearing black robes in the extras, but when she gets closer to Tianlang-Jun she apparently showed a softer side. She also possibly put Luo Binghe in that wooden basin and pushed him out into the river in the hopes he'd live.
  • Death by Childbirth: While it's likely that she died of the poison she was forced to drink to kill the unborn Luo Binghe, her death is played up as being attributed to her son's birth.
  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: She's dead before the events of the story, and when she is brought up it's usually to discuss her past.
  • Defrosting the Ice Queen: She initially got close to Tianlang-Jun for nefarious reasons, but she soon grew to like and even fall in love with him.
  • Honey Trap: She was sent out to sabotage Tianlang-Jun, but she fell In Love with the Mark.
  • Interspecies Romance: Was a human woman who fell in love with the demon Tianlang-Jun.
  • Ice Queen: She's described as this by both her teacher and her lover, Tianlang-Jun. The exact circumstances of her death reveal a softer side however.
  • Killed Offscreen: Her death is never shown, with it only being retold by a priest who had witnessed what Su Xiyan went through in order to give birth to Luo Binghe and recounts the events to Tianlang-Jun.
  • Lust Object: The Old Palace Master lusted over her to the point of becoming a yandere over her. It's possible Su Xiyan knew this, which was why she was cold towards her teacher.
  • Malicious Slander: Her name was not remembered fondly by those in the cultivation world as they saw her as a traitor who fell to demons. Later on her name is slightly cleared towards the end of the story via a priest's exposition to Tianlang-Jun.
  • Mama Bear: She directed the poison towards herself and away from her unborn child. Even in her dying moments, she placed Luo Binghe into the water basin and pushed him out into the river in hopes that he will live.
  • Never Got to Say Goodbye: Due to circumstances outside of her control as well as her own choice, she was unable to bid Tianlang-Jun a proper farewell. The priest who tells Tianlang-Jun what her ultimate fate was makes it clear she never wanted nor meant to betray him.
  • Posthumous Character: Long dead by the time of the story.
