    Ragna

I must slay all dragons... with these Hands. Eradicate every last one... from the face of Earth.
Voiced by: Chiaki Kobayashi (Japanese), Jack Stansbury (English)

Ragna is a dragon hunter who assisted Leonica, a young hunter girl prodigy, into hunting dragons. His skills and strength weren't even comparable to her prowess but he always gave his best when hunting and when they weren't hunting he dealt with every daily needs of her. He trained in secret every day when she was sleeping to become a better hunter and burden her less even if he knew it was impossible to reach a fraction of her level.

One day Ragna gets contacted by his future self and he shows to his past self how his powerlessness will bring death to the person he most care about, Leonica. He in the far future will be able to fight even the strongest dragons but his strength won't have any purpose anymore as there's no one left to protect. In exchange of his future self power Ragna needs to change his future to protect those who he cares about.

  • Always a Bigger Fish: Zig-zagged; to most of Dragonkind, Ragna is singlehandedly the deadliest being on the planet for raw power and fighting prowess, symbolizing to their species that even mortal humans can surpass them in the right circumstances. The Dragon Kings would be the bigger fish, and technically are — except the Future Ragna defeated them all, and this Ragna has all of that power, just not the experience or body to harness it yet. The story spells it out as a result that he has to eventually overcome those hurdles, or everyone is screwed again.
  • Always Someone Better: Ragna himself is that for all dragon hunters. No matter how talented or exceptional they are, no human has yet come close to him when it comes to hunting dragons.
  • Anything but That!: The single thing Ragna hates in the world more than anything else he can try to tolerate is Artemisia's face, solely because her "kindness" is so twisted that it pisses him off royally. Then he finds out she's a subverted clone of Carla, the Time Saintess — and the Sun Cult and other dragon hunter factions generally use Carlas all over the place by the hundreds, causing him no small amount of recurring distress when they keep assigning Carlas to assist him, enough so to Stress Vomit.
  • Battle Aura: As the name implies, when he uses the Silver Aura Battle Arts his body is covered in aura that instantly freezes dragons that try to touch him.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: A large part of his Hero-Worshipper to Leo comes from the fact that Leo was the only person in the village who didn't look down on him and accept him as her companion.
  • Berserk Button: As Crimson puts it, he is a ticking bomb in the presence of dragons. Since they were responsible for a Bad Future, his hatred for them is understandable.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Even after gaining his incredible powers, Ragna is still shy and bad at dealing with people in general. That said, both humans and dragons agree that he's terrifying when he's fighting.
  • Blade Spam: His strongest technique, Twin Dragon Hunting Flash, is a twin consecutive strike at the speed of light. It's so fast that even Kamui, who can move at lightning speed, couldn't see the attacks until he was slashed.
  • Body Horror: Of the powers he inherited from his future self, being a literal silver aura sword means that he's barely able to be considered human anymore, especially with the story gradually revealing that Silver as an element itself is not of earthly origins. To Starlia's Aura Vision this is comedic, because she literally sees him as a sword; to Dragons this is walking nightmare fuel for those not expecting it, since he seems more like a vengeful demon lurching out of the depths of hell after them. Combine this with some of the things that happen to his body as he grows more and more powerful, and it's not hard to see why.
  • Break His Heart to Save Him: When Leonica demands to go with Ragna, he first tells her no because she is weak and will just die, then actually uses force to take her down and leave to prove his point.
  • Broken Ace: Many who witness Ragna's power consider him the World's Strongest Man and a Hope Bringer, seeing him as the best viable weapon against the dragons. He also has low self-esteem, a tragic past and future, and has so much Survivor Guilt that he is afraid to accept help from others, as he believes they will die trying to help him.
  • Condescending Compassion: His I Work Alone attitude due to his fear that those who tried to help him would die is seen that way by Shin, who called him out for it. Ragna later apologizes to him, saying that he has no right to stop those who are determined to hunt dragons, accepting that he and Garm assist him during the battle against Olto Zora.
  • Cool Kid-and-Loser Friendship: At the beginning of the story he is The Loser to Leo's Cool, with Sykes pointing out that Ragna is below average as a hunter but still somehow became a companion of a dragon hunter prodigy like Leo, accusing him of draggin' her down with his weakness, , something that Ragna himself agrees with. That all changes when Ragna meets his future self and gets his powers however.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Ragna's timid nature and lack of self-esteem makes it difficult for many to believe that he is capable of single-handedly defeating a superior dragon. But should he get serious, they soon find out why.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: So many. Unless he is facing a Superior Dragon, he will easily defeat any opponent.
  • Death or Glory Attack: Ragna's Dragon Hunting Flash technique is an almost guaranteed One-Hit Kill when executed well. However, he will be completely exhausted after using the move, meaning anyone who manages to stand up to or evade this attack can then defeat him with ease.
  • The Dreaded: He is that for dragons to the point of being known as "The Reaper" by them. For example, after he almost managed to kill Artemisia and left her traumatized to the point of losing her powers of time control, the Winged Bloodline's policy upon seeing Ragna became calling on Kamui, the strongest among them, and hope he can defeat "The Reaper".
  • Fantastic Fighting Style: He uses "Silverine Battle Arts", the ultimate anti-dragon battle arts that were inherited from his future self. These arts were born from his unique silverine skills and experience, it's a fighting style composed by hand-to-hand, sword techniques and throwing weapons and attacks.
  • Friendless Background: Because he was often the Sole Survivor of many dragon attacks, he was accused of being The Jinx by the people around him, leading to him not having any friends until he met Leonica. A large part of his Hero-Worshipper for her stems from her accepting him as her partner while everyone else despised him.
  • From Zero to Hero: He begins the story as an untalented teenage dragon slayer trying to get strong enough to at least die protecting his partner Leonica. After Ragna from the future appears before him and warns him that Leonica will die despite his best efforts, he is granted all of his future self's powers and memories, giving him the chance to save those he cares about.
  • Future Me Scares Me: Having obtained the memories of his future self, Ragna decides to make sure that timeline never comes to pass and immediately causes divergences in the timeline.
  • Healing Factor: Along with his impressive physical powers, Ragna also possesses a the ability to rapidly recover from serious damage, similar to a Superior Dragon. For example, during the fight against Kamui he was decapitated but he managed to not only survive as well as reattach his head to his body.
  • Hero-Worshipper: At the beginning of the story he worships Leo as his hero and is content to die as long as he has been useful to her before that happens. This is deconstructed when Future Ragna tells him that he hates how he revered a little girl as a hero but didn't become strong enough to protect her from harm, which led to her death in his Bad Future. The present Ragna eventually agrees with that and decides to abandon her so that he can slay the dragons without endangering her.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: He always had low self-esteem as he was considered weak and untalented in combat, having to depend on Leonica to survive the battles against dragons until then. After receiving the powers of his future self and becoming virtually the World's Strongest Man, he still feels it unsettling that people treat him like he's someone great because his strength was a gift and he didn't work hard for it.
  • House Husband: Because of his inability to hunt dragons along with Leo, he tries to make up for his uselessness in battle by becoming that to her, taking care of her basic needs such as food, clothing and bathing with her. After acquiring his incredible powers, he still hasn't lost that habit and makes food for his allies.
  • Iaijutsu Practitioner: Ragna's Dragon Hunting Flash it's so fast that even Kamui, a literal Lightning Bruiser, can't follow it.
  • Kill It with Ice: Specifically, Ragna is unable to create ice and lower the temperature at will, but he will freeze dragons and their magic if he touches them. See Man of Kryptonite below.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Ragna has a habit of seeking to attack dragons the instant he lays eyes on them, with no strategy at all and only using his admittedly impressive powers. This isn't usually a problem in most cases, but when the opponents are Superior Dragons at the level of Kamui and Monarchs, this behavior of his does more harm than good:
    • Though aware that Crimson was preparing a plan to defeat Artemisia, Ragna eventually cannot contain his rage and decides to hunt her down anyway by himself and although he comes close to succeeding in killing her, he ultimately fails and ends up needing to be rescued by Crimson.
    • After basically deciding that he'd rather hunt the Roar Bloodline than be in crowds, he impulsively goes into their territory to try and exterminate them by himself. Although Ragna reached the fourth layer of the dragon's base, forcing the Roar Monarch to step in to stop him and made it out alive, it ultimately proves that even if Ragna is World's Strongest Man, he is not capable of defeating an entire bloodline of dragons alone.
  • Losing Your Head: Kamui decapitates Ragna during their fight, but Ragna is able to survive this normally fatal injury since he's essentially a sword in human form.
  • Man of Kryptonite: Because he is essentially a human silver sword, which are weapons that have a specific type of energy that can freeze the magic that runs through a dragons blood, lesser dragons are killed instantly upon touching him. Even a superior dragon like Kamui admits that he needs to use all of his willpower or his hand will go numb from holding one of the swords forged by Ragna.
  • One-Man Army: Ruthlessly deconstructed, because Ragna can kick the hell out of most Dragons in his path, but several of his hardest-earned victories tend require emergency backup, a plan from Crimson or so forth. The times he tries to be a Leeroy Jenkins tend to be times that end very badly or ultimately showed his hand too much to his enemy. Yet doing this as near-entirely gained him the focus of Dragonkind's attention away from many other priority targets, ironically making it more effective than one might expect.
  • Outside-Context Problem: To all dragons. A wimpy dragon hunter who has suddenly acquired powers from his future self decades before he should, becoming such a serious threat that he has come to be called "The Reaper", the lethal scourge of the dragons.
  • Paradox Person: Upon receiving the powers and knowledge of his future self, he became one.
  • The Reason You Suck: He gives a big one to Crimson, pointing out that all the Argentum Corps are risking their lives to win despite the slim chance of success against the Winged Bloodline, while Crimson is the only one who is not doing the same and continues to insist on trying to secure a guaranteed victory in the future rather than trying to win now, questioning how he can expect to eliminate all dragons when he doesn't risk himself to do so.
Ragna:The (Argentum) Corps moved me deeply on many occasions with their words and deeds. I'm sure it's because every one of them had their life on the line! You're the only one not risking your life. You always talk about 'next time, next time'. The enemy's felling pressured too. Our chances might be low, but they're not nil. If you can't stand up and fight now... How do you expect to eliminate all of the bloodlines?!
  • Socially Awkward Hero: Ragna is a monster in combat but outside of that he is an awkward young man who is terrible at socializing, to the point where he runs away from a meeting with potential allies to hunt dragons alone.
  • Superpower Lottery: After gaining the Silver Aura battle arts, his have greatly increased to the point that an average superior dragon, which are the peak power of the dragon species, are not a challenge for him. Even Starlia, who also won the lottery, doesn't come close to his power.
  • Took a Level in Badass: This is the premise of the story. Ragna is at first a weak and pathetic dragon hunter who suddenly obtains powers which he should obtain decades in the future, becoming The Dreaded to all dragons.
  • Unique Protagonist Asset: Zig-zagged. Silver is used as the primary weapon element of which Dragons can be killed, as the story treats its metal as something of a Silver Bullet that can freeze their blood and take them down. There's even characters with special silver abilities, such as Starlia, that can make a significant dent against more powerful foes in the right circumstances. But Ragna, by way of Superpower Lottery, is Silver; his Silver Aura arts straight up allow him to become a living centerpiece of power against the very species he wishes to exterminate, singlehandedly turning him into the largest Spanner in the Works on the planet.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Although the powers he obtained from his future self firmly place him as one of the strongest characters in the story, the fact is he has not had time to adapt to these powers, often passing out from overexertion. As he masters his power and remembers the techniques he had in the future, he stops being that trope and becomes Strong and Skilled.
  • Worf Had the Flu: At full power, Ragna is undoubtedly one of the strongest characters in the story, but because he is not used to using the power he has acquired, he often ends up getting too tired to continue the battle or fainting from exhaustion.

I will use you. I will guide you... down to the path to the extermination of our blood.
Voiced by: Ayumu Murase (Japanese), Jade Kelly (English)
Crimson is the previous Winged Monarch who betrayed the dragons and tried to kill the Dragon God. Crimson teamed up with Ragna because he consider him the key to slay all dragons, himself included.
  • Anti-Hero: He oscillates between being an Unscrupulous Hero and a Nominal Hero, but his main objective is to exterminate all the dragons, which are a much greater threat to humanity than he is.
  • Attractive Bent-Gender: Crimson deliberately tries to be as attractive as possible whatever his gender at the moment, mainly because it makes it easier for him to seduce people and get useful pawns for his schemes.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: This is his forte; he have a lot of intel about dragons, down to their powers, behavior and varieties which proves to be a very valuable asset on several occasions as Ragna is battling them.
  • Bad Boss: Unless you are one of the servants he created and are programmed to have Undying Loyalty for him (and even they are mistreated often), the tendency is that he eventually manipulates, hypnotizes, poisons or sacrifices his supposed allies so that his plans work.
  • Bad Guys Do the Dirty Work: Crimson is not afraid to carry out brutal acts of violence against enemies and innocents alike in order to succeed in his goal of exterminating the dragons.
    • His plan to defeat Artemisia is to force her to use her magic to rewind the world, so that she will be exhausted afterwards. For this he blows up several places in the capital, causing the deaths of many people, hoping that Artemisia, who abhors death and suffering, would be compelled to rewind the world to bring back the dead, which would have worked if the Nebulim hadn't stopped her. A ruthless plan no doubt, but if Artemisia isn't killed, she will genocide them and the rest of the city anyway, which ended up happening after that.
    • Olto Zora's strategy against the Argentum Corps was to attack them with thousands of drugged humans, disrupting the teleportation magic they were going to use, as it was programmed to affect only humans, causing the amount of magic needed for the teleportation to happen increase a lot. Crimson's solution? Brainwash the sheltered civilians to fight the drugged humans and kill each other, which lowered the magic required for teleportation to be activated.
  • Bad Samaritan: One of the Crimson's most frequent tactics for would-be pawns is to say that he intends to help them fight the dragons under the guise of mutual benefit, but the true is that he has no concern for their lives and will sacrifice them without a second thought.
  • Body Backup Drive: Every time he is killed, Crimson reappears soon after in a new body, to the point that dying is a brief inconvenience for him at best.
  • Changed My Mind, Kid: After Ragna decides to break their alliance and go help the Argentum Corps, he gives a "The Reason You Suck" Speech before leaving, causing Crimson to sulk in his room. After Ferbigott informed him that Borgius was going to do his Last Dance in the battle against Ragna, he notices the Winged Bloodline were essentially cowering in Lese's capital and he concludes that Artemisia has lost her ability to control time. Seeing a real chance of success, he decides to join the battle and his contribution is vital to securing victory against the Winged Bloodline.
  • The Chessmaster: Downplayed. He is an excellent strategist, but more often than not his plans go awry due to a combination of Didn't See That Coming and his own arrogance.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: That is Crimson's modus operandi. This however is deconstructed in the story, as nothing he says can convince Starlia to ally with him as she is aware of how treacherous he is, forcing him to have to depend on Ragna for that. This trait also leads Ragna to briefly abandon their alliance to aid the Argentum Corps, and later he warns that he will continue to ignore his orders if Crimson continues to try to sacrifice the people Ragna tries to protect.
Starlia: It is clear to me that there can be no cooperation. You are not the sort who works with others. You manipulate and kill them.
  • Consummate Liar: He juggles multiple personalities and it's noted that he lies as naturally as he breathes, to the point that Starlia says he's so untrustworthy that even she can't tell if there's any truth in his words from the lies.
  • Create Your Own Hero: Downplayed. Crimson at first uses Ragna's desire for revenge against the dragons to manipulate him and use him as his ideal pawn. However, when trying to convince Ragna to abandon Starlia and continue following his plans, this leads to Ragna having a Heroic Resolve, realizing that what he wants most is not to take revenge on the dragons or die in battle but to survive together with everyone else. The epiphany makes him decide to end their alliance to help the rest of the Argentum Corps rescue her, which makes Crimson immediately kick himself for it.
Crimson: Ah... Damn... I messed up. He was just an ordinary, unremarkable schlub with a remarkable power far beyond his station. But now... he's something more.
  • Didn't See That Coming: As smart as Crimson is, he is often blindsided by unforeseen circumstances.
    • Initially Crimson judged that Ragna was nothing more than a mediocre man who happened to possess strength far beyond his means and soon he would turn him into his puppet, but he is taken by surprise when he discovers that Ragna ignored his orders and decided to hunt Artemisia on his own.
    • After successfully rescuing Ragna, Crimson is confident that even if Nephulim is skilled enough to find his Globe Chamber, he won't be able to break through its protection from the outside. He's right but due to Ragna's stubbornness in continuing the fight, our hero inadvertently ends up revealing their location to the Nephilim as well as weakening the barrier, leading to its destruction and causing everyone inside to be transported randomly.
    • Before the fight against Olto Zora and Taratectora, Crimson warns Ragna not to use Silverine Battle Arts as this would make the enemy realize that the "Reaper" was with the Argentum Corps and immediately summon Kamui to face him. This caution ended up being in vain as Kamui couldn't handle his own curiosity and decided to go see the battle without being called.
    • When he decides to steal the teleportation magic circle to send only those he deems aren't dead weight, essentially abandoning the civilians they were trying to save. His plan would have worked if Majorca, whom he didn't even pay attention to, had not used her powers to teleport Crimson and his goons away from there, ruining his plans.
    • During the last battle against the Winged Bloodline, he had no way of imagining that the Nephilim would transfer his powers to Borgius and the old dragon would use his new abilities to shatter the dimension in which Crimson kept Artemisia trapped while he fought her. Likewise, he was completely taken aback when Ferbigott used Collapse to overpower Borgius, unintentionally inflicting serious injuries on Crimson that would prevent him from continuing his fight against Artemisia.
  • Dirty Coward: Downplayed, but definitely a character trait of his. He is a very pragmatic sort of coward, as he has a habit of abandoning battle or avoiding it altogether if he is unsure about the outcome of the fight. This, however, makes him decide not to put pressure on the Winged Bloodline when they were most vulnerable, preferring to seek a certain victory in the future rather than try to risk winning now and this caution is criticized by Ragna, who points out that Crimson cannot hope to exterminate all the dragons if he is not willing to take the risk to do so.
  • Effeminate Voice: He's voiced by Ayumu Murase, even when taking the form of a woman. The voice is still feminine-sounding enough to fit his androgynous and female forms.
  • Evil Redhead: Downplayed. The redheaded Crimson is a vicious, ruthless and manipulative Anti-Hero who only passes off as heroic because the villains are worse than him.
  • Fatal Flaw: Three of them, in fact.
    • Cowardice. Because of his Body Backup Drive technology, Crimson is not in danger of suffering a permanent death and when he faced with unexpected problems, he tends to retreat rather than continuing to try to win the battle. While there are valid reasons to say this is Combat Pragmatism on his part, as Ragna points out in his The Reason You Suck speech how he can expect to exterminate all dragons if he keeps running away instead of standing his ground and fighting to the end? This eventually leads Crimson to truly to risk his life to help our hero and the Argentum Corps put an end to the Winged Bloodline once and for all.
    • Disloyalty. He manipulates and sacrifice people so often that Starlia's powers have shown her that his true nature is "a foul pitch-black mass of death" and flatly refuses to enter into an alliance with him, and Ragna warns him that he will disobey his orders if he continues to try to sacrifice people to his plans. The only ones who truly trust him are the servants he created himself, as they are programmed to have Undying Loyalty to him, but outside of them he has no genuine allies.
    • Pride. Due to his supreme confidence in his own intelligence, he fails to account for things that fall outside of his plans. As a consequence, his disregard for others and tendency to manipulate people backfired against him several times, to the point of being almost a running joke.
  • Giver of Lame Names: Personally coined Ragna's "Reaper" and "Silver Sword Saint" epithets. Golem and Slime bully Ragna over how lame and edgy they sound without realizing this, to which Crimson shoots both of them in the head non-fatally for it.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: He usually covers the left side of his face with his hair to hide his dragon eye. The hairstyle also fits his devious and secretive nature.
  • Hunter of His Own Kind: He was the original Monarch of the Winged Brethren but for some reason he rebelled against the Dragon God and is now scheming to eradicate all dragons.
  • Inhuman Eye Concealers: He usually hides his red, dragon-like left eye with his long hair or something else.
  • A Lighter Shade of Black: He's this to the rest of the dragons, or so he claims. Granted, Crimson is an Unscrupulous Hero at best or a Nominal Hero at worst, constantly betrays his supposed allies and kill innocents for the success of his plans without hesitation, but he's still much better than most of the dragons, who include bloodthirsty monsters that devour humans for food and fun.
  • Manipulative Bastard: He's definitely one but that's deconstructed. As good as Crimson is at manipulating people, it is precisely because of this trait that he cannot gain the trust of Ragna and Starlia, who are aware of his tendency to use and sacrifice allies and innocents for his plans.
  • Mysterious Past: Crimson has been involved in the war against dragons since the modern age, having witnessed the destruction of America and after become the Winged Monarch, he has betrayed the Dragon God and since then he pursues the extermination of all dragons. Who he was before he became a dragon, how he became the Winged Monarch and why he decided to betray the Dragon God are details that have yet to be revealed in the story.
  • Nominal Hero: Of the Mutual Interest sort. He's working with Ragna because he also wants all the dragon race to become extinct, including himself. Unlike Ragna, he doesn't really care what happens to humanity.
  • Omnidisciplinary Scientist: He can do basically anything. Crimson has created computers, poisons, body modifications, genetic enhancements, constructing interdimensional gateways and fully artificial lifeforms.
  • Sex Shifter: He can change his gender when it suits him.
  • Shapeshifter Default Form: Crimson's true appearance isn't clear as he can change his body's age and gender. His most common form is that of an androgynous teenager with red hair.
  • Smug Snake: Unlike many Smug Snakes, Crimson is intelligent, but his massive arrogance and sociopathy make it difficult for him to get genuine allies to his cause once they know his true nature, while his sheer ego and tendency towards underestimating his opponents and his own allies can sometimes derail his plans.
  • The Social Darwinist: When trying Mind Control Fu, Crimson says that to him "evil" is that capable people lose their lives protecting the weak. On the other hand, "good" is that the weak realize they are incapable and sacrifice themselves for the greater good, which is why Crimson decided to orchestrate a mutiny and teleport only those he deemed useful, leaving behind the civilians that the Argentum Corps were trying to save.
Crimson: Evil is for the capable men to be sacrificed for the incapable ones.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Ragna is a literal-thinking wall of destruction that has No Social Skills with a penchant for Leeroy Jenkins in lieu of proper stratagems. Evil Slime as an exuberant yet reckless little fellow that also lacks any sort of real social graces whatsoever. Chimera is mildly competent to some degree, but an utterly Book Dumb individual in regards to anything past her exact orders. Golem is the most competent as a Deep Cover Agent, but has a habit of being utterly malicious towards Chimera for the hell of it and completely ignorant to Crimson's inner thoughts. To say Crimson can be utterly exasperated with this group is an understatement.
  • Token Evil Teammate: He is malicious, unscrupulous and extremely manipulative but is an important ally to Ragna in his quest to exterminate all dragons. That said, even he agrees with Starlia that Crimson is "a persistent stain on the toilet bowl of the world" and intends to hunt him down one day.
  • Too Clever by Half: He's very smart and cunning but also very arrogant. For all his great plans, Crimson ends up falling victim to his own pride too often.
  • The Unfettered: As long as his actions lead to the extermination of the dragons, anything is acceptable to him, be it killing innocents, brainwashing allies and civilians alike, and poisoning Ragna to ensure he doesn't rebel against him.

Argentum Corps

The Argentum Corps is a famous military unit of the Kingdom of Lese, started and led by Starlia Lese, the second Princess of the Kingdom, all of whose members use the weapons she makes in battle. So renowned are they that the Winged Bloodline considered them the only possible deterrent to the outright genocide of the Lese kingdom.
    In General
  • Badass Army: They are the strongest army in the kingdom of Lese and were considered the only force capable of fighting the Winged Bloodline, which they proved by defeating Dornea on their own, with them playing a key role in Ragna Crimson's efforts to wipe out the Winged Bloodline.
  • Crazy Jealous Guys: Many of them didn't like their beloved princess falling in love with Ragna at all. When ordered by Starlia to hand over their weapons for him to infuse with silverine, instead of simply giving them to him, several tried (and failed) to kill him.
  • Everybody's Dead, Dave: At the end of the mission to rescue Starlia, almost all of the soldiers who participated died, with the only survivors being Shin, Hesela, Issac and Nazarena.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Word of God says that Starlia and the entire Argentum Corps were killed by Dornea in a very tight battle in the previous timeline. After Future Ragna sent his powers to his version of the present and started a new timeline, a butterfly effect occurred and changed the outcome of that battle, resulting in them being victorious in the new timeline.
  • Instant Fan Club: Some of the most devoted soldiers are part of the S.P.A.S - Silverware Princess Appreciation Society. They are also the ones who are most outraged that their beloved princess has fallen in love with Ragna and genuinely tried to kill him for it.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Their battle with Dornea takes place completely offscreen, with it only being said that Garm was the one who dealt the final blow and that Fu took his powers afterwards.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: Compared to the rest of the dragon hunters in Lese's realm, the Argentum Corps are very powerful as they managing to kill the Winged Bloodline's Ninth Seat, Dornea, which in itself is an impressive feat. However, they greatly fall short of Ragna and Crimson, who by the time they met they had defeated the Third, Eight, Tenth and Thirteenth Seats, in addition to coming very close to killing Artemisia. That said, their help is vital for the main characters to wipe out the Winged Bloodline.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: The mission to rescue Starlia is successful but at a massive physical and emotional cost to everyone involved. With the exception of a few, all members of the Silver Armament Army Corps who participated in the battle against the Winged Bloodline died. Even Crimson says it was a terrible victory.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: Soldiers, mercenaries, dragon hunters, thaumaturges, assassins... the force is made up of varied fighters that you wouldn't expect to work together, but several of them were saved, taken in or helped by Starlia and as a result are loyal to her.
  • Undying Loyalty: They are completely loyal and devoted to Starlia, going without hesitation in what most would call a uwinnable battle to rescue her from the Winged Bloodline, with nearly all of them dying in the process.

    Starlia Lese

Starlia Lese, also called the Silverware Princess, is the second princess of the Kingdom of Lese and Commander of the royal army special squad: the Argentum Corps.
  • The Ace: One of the strongest non-dragons in the setting aside from Ragna, a highly competent military commander, an Ultimate Blacksmith capable of crafting ultra high-quality silver swords, and a Living Lie Detector, all at age 16. She is so damn amazing that her existence itself is considered a divine gift.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Starlia is just called "Lia" by those close to her.
  • Aura Vision: She has the ability to see people's auras, which allows her to know when someone is lying to her as well as their true nature. This also causes her to see the world in ways that are alien to ordinary people. For example, in her eyes Ragna is literally a sword with arms and legs, which is a pretty accurate description of his powers, and naturally she thought he was incredibly hot.
  • BFS: Most of her weapons are bigger than her entire body. This doesn't really hinder her, since her powers can still move them with ease.
  • The Blacksmith: A master in producing silver equipment, she is the one who produces for all the members of the Argentum Corps weapons they use against dragons.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Because of her incredible abilities and the way she perceives the world, she tends to behave... oddly. She naturally has absolutely no interest in any of the things princesses usually are expected to do, such as marrying into nobility (much to the dismay of her personal tutor), and respects strength and skill above all. She always does things her own way, often out of nowhere, and is usually completely right, but because she doesn't always bother to explain why she does things, to someone not endowed with Aura Vision like herself, it can sometimes seem like she's going mad. She doesn't even really see people as... people, exactly. She's almost more like an alien than a human being. But her heart is always in the right place, and in a kingdom under siege by dragons, she is exactly what's needed. Her subordinates have learned to trust her completely despite her wacky antics, for very good reason.
  • Detect Evil: She is able to see the true nature of people if they touch her swords, which is the equivalent of the individual's accumulated history and lifestyle. For example, when Crimson touched her sword, she correctly judged that he was a vile existence that manipulates and kills others, and he was not genuinely seeking an alliance with her. And for the same reason she ends up falling in love with Ragna at first sight, who from her perspective is the most handsome man she has ever seen.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: Supplementary material states that Starlia has always hated people looking at her with pity for not having arms. Whenever she received clothing with long sleeves, she ripped the sleeves off.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Her eyes have stars for pupils, denoting her unique True Sight.
  • Fairytale Motifs: According to Kobayashi, she's modeled after the titular protagonist of "The Girl Without Hands", who spends a significant portion of her story as royalty with silver artificial hands.
  • Flight: With her ability to control her aura, she can fly and she can share some of her power so her soldiers can do the same too.
  • Good is Not Nice: She has a Judge, Jury, and Executioner mentality and once she decides someone has to die, she passes sentence on the spot. That said, her powers and instinct make her such an Excellent Judge of Character that it borders on impossible that she is wrong in her decision.
"When her instincts sense that someone is guilty, she will kill them without hesitation. That is how the Silverware Princess gets thing done!"
  • Handicapped Badass: Despite being born without arms, Starlia instead has the incredible talent of perceiving the aura as well as controlling it from all matter in the world.
  • Improbable Age: In addition to her incredible power, Starlia is a Child Prodigy who accomplished several feats at a young age: at age 6 she hunted three low-ranking dragons; at 8 she annihilated a group of dragons, which had two mid-ranked dragons, earning her the name "Silverware Princess"; at 9 she single-handedly stopped a coup d'état in her country and begins to make weapons and equipment; at 14 she and her troop, called the Argentum Corps, manages to exterminate the large group of dragons led by mature dragons that killed 10,000 people, gaining immense fame. And at the age of 16, she is so famous that half the world knows who she is and the Solarian Church believes her to be a miracle brought by their sun god.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Once she became aware that the Winged Bloodline intended to exterminate the entire kingdom and knowing that the Argentum Corps was not able to withstand their power in a direct confrontation by themselves, she decides to gather as many survivors as she can, flee with her soldiers and seek asylum with the Solarians. As much as Crimson doesn't like her, he admits it's a sensible plan.
  • Living Lie Detector: Her eyes can distinguish when someone is telling the truth from when someone is lying because she sees people's auras, and even if the liar is careful to use Exact Words and Metaphorically True to try to deceive her, she will smell that there is something fishy. It is because of this talent of hers that Crimson says that they are incompatible.
  • Losing Your Head: In a Diabolus ex Machina, right before the Corps can fully retreat from the aftermath of the battle with Taratectora, Kamui appears out of nowhere, severs Starlia's head in one stroke and then magically reattaches it to her neck before her body can register any of what happened. It all happens at near-lightspeed, so this merely incapacitates her enough to be captured and poisoned, though at first Ragna reasonably assumed she was dead.
  • Love at First Sight: Falls for Ragna the moment she meets him.
  • Magnetic Hero: Starlia is admired by all of the Argentum Corps and has an uncanny ability of inspiring people.
  • Master of the Levitating Blades: She has no arms, so she uses her powerful telekinesis to wield multiple swords bigger than herself. While she also has metal arms that can be controlled via the same telekinesis, she doesn't actually need them to wield her weapons.
  • Mind over Matter: One of her many abilities is controlling the aura that all matter possesses, she can freely move objects with her mind, at least as long as they're made of a material that emits a strong aura (like silver). Her silver prosthetic arms are presumably for interacting with objects she cannot telekinetically move with ease.
  • A Mother To Her Men: She gets a lot of respect from her underlings because she looks out for them and has their best interests in mind. They, in turn, idolize her and give their lives to protect her.
  • No-Sell: She is it for Crimson. It is implied that he has tried several times to infiltrate the Argentum Corps, but despite be a Master Actor and a Consummate Liar, no matter what he does or says, he can never convince Starlia to trust him and she's totally right about that.
  • Psychic Link: Another of her powers is creating a form of telepathy with her soldiers, allowing her to give orders to them during battle.
  • Put on a Bus: After the conclusion of the Winged Bloodline arc, she and her Corps are put on one altogether because she was rendered comatose after what Kamui did to her, and the Corps were almost wiped out.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: She is certainly the most prominent examples of this in the series. Blessed with incredible powers, capable of slaying dragons since childhood, a talented blacksmith, and a very experienced and successful commander.
  • Shrinking Violet: Actually she is quite straightforward and confident, so much so that she managed to gather several powerful warriors through her charisma. However, when it comes to Ragna she becomes painfully shy, mainly because she has never been in love and doesn't know how to deal with her newfound feelings.
  • Superpower Lottery: Let's see: telekinesis, telepathy, Flight, she is able to distinguish the sincerity of potential allies as well as Detect Evil. She can also manipulate the aura around her to create powerful silver weapons for herself and her allies, in addition to being a talented swordsman.
  • Tender Tears: When she used her aura powers to help Ragna overpower Taratecora's suicide attack, their Psychic Link made her aware of the origin of his incredible powers. She then cries, lamenting how he could have had such a lonely and sad ending, asking him to part ways with Crimson and stay with her from then on, as she will ensure he doesn't have such a lonely end.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: She loves dragon meat, of all things, seemingly considering it poetic justice to devour those who prey on humanity.
  • True Sight: Part of the Required Secondary Powers to her telekinesis, which functions via the manipulation of auras, is the ability to see the auras of all things in the first place. This also makes Starlia almost impossible to fool, as she will notice even the most minute shifts in a person's aura that give away their lies.
  • Tsundere: Not knowing how to react to Ragna, who is her first crush, and at the same time trying to maintain her composure as the leader of the Argentum Corps and not appear weak to her subordinates, she ends up resorting to behaving like a cliché tsundere.

    Isaac Stern
Isaac "Ike" Stern, holds the rank of major in the Argentum Corps. His main function is to help Starlia run the army on a day-to-day basis, and he is the one who coordinates the soldiers' missions and duties in her absence.
  • Badass Normal: Compared to his peers, Isaac doesn't excel in combat as his main role is to handle the logistics and administration of the Argentum Corps. However, his role is essential during the final battle against the Winged Bloodline and he is one of the few who manages to survive the grueling battle.
  • The Chains of Commanding: Ike can barely keep his composure after Starlia's apparent death and almost breaks down when Ragna asks how he is doing, admitting that he's focusing on other priorities than his well-being because otherwise he fears he won't be able to do anything again.
  • Character Tic: Ike tends to adjust his glasses with his index finger. What makes this a character tic is that he doesn't need glasses in the first place, but wears them because Starlia said they suit him, and also because he makes the gesture even when he's not wearing them.
  • Dramatic Irony: The reason Ike joined the Argentum Corps was because he was banned to the Corps for failing to arrest the ringleader who sold drugs in the kingdom. It turns out that the person responsible for making the drugs was Fu, who was arrested by Starlia and forced to work for her ever since, and he confesses to him before making his final fatal attack on Olto Zora. Realizing the irony of the events that led them to join the Argentum Corps, both Ike and Fu admit that they were lucky after all.
  • I Owe You My Life: When Crimson requests that Ike and the rest of the Argentum Corps test the Silver Aura Armor prototype, he makes it very clear that the reason he and the rest of the Argentum Corps survivors are cooperating is because Ragna risked his life for them, and so they agreed to help him as a way of returning the favor to him.
  • Number Two: Though Starlia often makes fun of him, he is the only one who can run the Corps for her.

    Garm Ulban
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/garm_6.png
Garm Ulban, The Bladewolf, is Starlia swordmaster. He is considered the strongest swordsman in the Argentum Corps.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Despite the very brief battle they had, he realized that Ragna's strength does not come from innate talent but from relentless training he had undergone over several years, although he does not understand how this is possible given that he is quite young. He also was able to mimic his attacks, albeit much weaker than his in comparison.
  • Cool Old Guy: Though he was heartbroken at both being defeated by Ragna and the princess falling in love with him, Garm overcame this and proved to be an excellent ally for him in the ensuing battle. And when Ragna admitted to not being proud of his power, Garm gives him a You Are Better Than You Think You Are speech to him, saying that Ragna inspired him to push his limits and become even stronger so he could fight alongside him.
  • Feeling Their Age: Due to his age, he feels he has reached his limit of strength and talent, and therefore he expected no further growth but this turns out to be subverted. Witnessing Ragna's incredible feats inspires him to try to break his limits, leading him to discover that he can be even stronger than he thought possible.
  • Heartbroken Badass: Played for laughs. Garm was the first man Starlia admired and she openly said that if she were to marry, it would be a man even more "handsome" (read "stronger") than him. When the princess falls in love with Ragna right after easily defeating him, Garm is heartbroken, crying alone in the corridor. He quickly gets it over and proves to be a good ally for Ragna, however.
  • Old Master: Undoubtedly the strongest swordsman in the Argentum Corps. Isaac mentions that he was the one who gave the finishing blow against Dornea and Olto Zora also noted that he was off the charts compared to the rest of his peers.
  • Taking the Bullet: To save Shin's life, Garm pushed him and tried to block Olto Zora's attack with 300% self-strengthening, which was more than he could handle, having his torso cut in half and dying instantly.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: He gives a speech of this nature to Ragna after he confides that his strength was a gift and that is incapable of being proud of himself or his power.
Garm: While you may not be proud of yourself, Sir Ragna and feel lonely... I beg of you, continue to stand at head of the group and demonstrate your strenght to us! Many people will be inspired to surpass their limits by your example. Perhaps we will see someone reach the same heights you now occupy. I, for one intend to be the first person to do that.

    Shin Cutlass
Shin Cutlass is one of the youngest members of the Argentum Corps, occupying the rank of Swordmaster despite his age.
  • An Arm and a Leg: He loses his right arm and his left leg in the final battle against Olto Zora.
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: Shin is a young warrior who has The Gift, but as Starlia puts it, he has a big mouth for such a tiny body.
  • Big Ego, Hidden Depths: The reason for his arrogance and rude behavior is because many Argentum Corps members told him that he is the most talented among them and that one day he will be very strong. As a result, Shin does everything he can to meet those expectations, as his sense of self-worth is tied to not disappointing his peers.
"If I am lame as this, that'd make it look as if the Corps are just as lame!!!"
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!:
    • Played For Laughs. After suffering a Curb-Stomp Battle, Ragna genuinely praises his strength but Shin assumes he is being pitied, which causes him to run away with tears.
Shin: Chief swordsman, Shin Cutlass. I'm not like the rest of these losers.
Ragna (cuts to the next panel, showing Shin knocked to the ground) Yes, I can see that. You're strong. I didn't have any time to infuse silverine.
Shin: I don't wanna your pityyyy!!!
    • A more serious version of this happens during the first battle against Olto Zora. After Ragna continues to insist that he is capable of single-handedly fighting all of the thousands of dragons and treats Shin and the rest of the Argentum Corps as being too weak to help him and standing in his way, Shin loses his temper and gives him a What the Hell, Hero?, pointing that no matter how strong Ragna is, this battle was theirs and he has no right to stop them from fighting.
"You need to... get one thing straight. This is our battle! It's the fight between the Argentum Corps members who chose to run and live another day... and the dragon who are trying to kill us! But you!? You listen up good! No matter how strong you are... No matter how great of a reason you have to fight... You don't get to show up this late in the game and act like you're the hero!"
  • The Gift: In terms of potential, Shin has the greatest ability out of all the Corps, surpassing even Garm, and his desire to surpass Ragna further increases the heights he can reach.
  • Height Angst: He is insecure about his short height. When Starlia makes fun of it, he tries to say that he hasn't reached his grown spurt yet.
  • Rank Up: The reason he holds the rank of Swordmaster is because the previous commander, Yugo Roble, appointed him as his successor when he decided not to follow Starlia and the rest of the Argentum Corps in fleeing the kingdom to try and rescue his family on Donapierru.
  • Unknown Rival: He considers Ragna his rival but the difference in power between them is too big for Ragna to feel the same. Even so, his desire to surpass him causes Shin to becoming stronger than he could otherwise.

    Christoper Algren
Christoper Algren is one of the most skilled soldiers in the Argentum Corps, occupying the position of Swordmaster. In terms of strength, he is the strongest soldier in the entire army.
  • Abusive Parent: His mother even believed that Chris was born from an affair she had with the king when she was a royal housemaid. Chris notes that this could just be a madwoman's ramblings, but as a child he had no choice but to be raised as if he were a royal bastard and he was burdened him with more pride and expectations than he could bear. Perhaps it wasn't entirely her fault because her mind wasn't all there, but it had the effect of emotional abuse.
  • Artificial Limbs: He lost his right arm when he was single-handedly facing a mature dragon, having escaped with his life thanks to Starlia's intervention.
  • The Big Guy: By far the largest and physically strongest member of the Argentum Corps.
  • Brutish Character, Brutish Weapon: His weapon is a heavy poleax which can kill entire groups of lesser enemies aside with ease.
  • Genius Bruiser: Starlia notes that although he appears to have brawn for brains, he is actually a lot smarter than he appears.
  • Heel–Face Turn: By his own admission he did any kind of mercenary service as long as he was paid, regardless of how shadier the job was, but having his life saved by Starlia and joining the Argentum Corps changed him into a better person.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: With no one else being able to continue the fight against Olto Zota and knowing that someone needed to hold him in place for 10 seconds until Fu could launch his final attack, Chris promptly steps up for this mission. He manages to distract Olto Zora long enough, but to prevent him from evading the attack, he impales the dragon into the ground, staying within the attack radius and dying to ensure the victory for his teammates.
  • Hunk: He is is very handsome and very manly.

    Greya and Hesela
The youngest soldiers of the Argentum Corps, Greya and Hesela are twins who hold the rank of Chief Gunners in the troop. Although they act like typical excited girls, their true personality is far from that.
  • Angsty Surviving Twin: Double Subverted. At first, Hesela doesn't mourn her sister's death and insists on participating in the mission to rescue Starlia because she doesn't know what to feel anymore, but after Ragna and the Argentum Corps manage to defeat the Winged Bloodline at great cost, she immediately breaks down crying over the death of her sister and her companions.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: The two are by far the youngest soldiers in the Argentum Corps.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: It is implied that Hesela fell in love with Slime because he was kind to her after the battle with the Winged Bloodline. But because her emotions are unstable, she is not able to show these new feelings in a healthy way and became a Yandere.
  • Broken Tears: After dealing the finishing blow to Artemisia, Hesela cannot contain herself anymore and cries over the death of her sister and her friends.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: They have no knowledge of their parents and because of their dragon traits, they have been used and abused by society, being introduced by a circus as "The children with dragon's blood". Although they were rescued by Starlia, their upbring left them emotionally stunted and all their Genki Girl personality is fake.
  • Deliberately Cute Child: They act cute and excited, but they are actually quite stoic because of their abusive upbringing and they only act that way because they're trying to get a sense of emotion by mimicking children their age.
  • Spanner in the Works: Hesela is so traumatized by Greya's death that she's not very effective on her own in the final battle with the Winged Bloodline— but fast thinking on Crimson's part getting a gun to her just as Artemisia was about to rewind time leads to her being the one to get the final shots off and stop the war once and for all.
  • Surprisingly Sudden Death: Greya's head is blown off without warning by Kamui shortly after Ragna and the Argentum Corps manage to repel Olto Zora and Taratectora's attack.
  • Tranquil Fury: Despite apparently being furious with Evil Slime's Innocently Insensitive, they admit that they aren't actually mad at him but chose to act as if they were because that's how they believe kids their age would react in their shoes.
Greya and Hesela: We are not actually angry about your insults. We just choose to be angry.
  • Yandere: Hesela warns Slime that if he doesn't visit her at least once a month, she will Ass Shove him again.

    Nazarena Teluzian
Nazarena is Starlia's royal tutor, having been in charge of her education since she was a child. She is also a Ninja Maid and one of the strongest members of the Argentum Corps.
  • Badass Teacher: Oh, yes. Starlia spent every day trying to kill Nazarena while receiving an education from her. Eventually the assassination attempts diminished over the years, to the point where it became a sort of annual tradition between the two.
  • Becoming the Mask: Although Nazarena is presented as being Starlia's royal tutor since she was an infant, in reality she is actually an agent of the Solarian Church sent to the kingdom of Lese with the specific purpose of recruiting Starlia to join the Church... or kill her if she was uncontrollable. However, Nazarena would eventually admit that she enjoyed the years they were together, enough that she forgot that it was her mission.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: When Starlia falls in love with Ragna and becomes distracted in her thoughts, Nazarena's solution is to punch the princess so that she can get her act together, saying that despite being happy for her, it wasn't time for her to be swept off her feet.
  • Parental Substitute: To Starlia. Sorts of. Because she was born without arms, Starlia was disqualified as royalty and was considered a taint for the royal family of Lese, falling to Nazarena taking care of the princess's education and despite several attempts at signing by Starlia over the years, she is her closest parental figure in her life.
  • Ninja Maid: Definitely. Given how problematic and aggressive Starlia was when she was a child, Nazarena being one was a prerequisite for being able to educate her.

Crimson Servants

    Evil Slime
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/slime_anime_design.jpg
Evil Slime or simply Slime is one of the three absolutely loyal servants of Crimson.
  • Ass Shove: The "cute, childish prank" that Greya and Hesela performed on Slime is said to have involved firecracker aided sphincter stretching. Whatever they did, they left Slime with a Thousand-Yard Stare.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: No matter how silly he acts and harmless his appearance appears, Evil Slime remains a creature capable of devouring even superior dragons, as Nebulim has repeatedly discovered.
  • Blob Monster: He is a slime monster, but he usually takes the shape of a little boy.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: It's basically how he acts whenever he appears, always telling everyone how superior he is to all humans and how inferior they are compared to him and the Crimson. Despite this, Slime means well at the end of the day.
  • Innocently Insensitive: He has No Social Skills and will often say something rude or offensive to the people around him. An example of this was when he tried to get the surviving Argentum Corps soldiers not to mourn the loss of their comrades, not realizing that he was only making everyone even more depressed:
Evil Slime: Hey, you worthless humansh! How long are you going to be depresshed, jusht becaushe an overwhelming number of your friendsh are dead?! After the braindead cata and dopey robot died, I didn't feel shad at all! You all are jusht weak!
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He is prone to being rude and obnoxious, but in his own way he is kind, admitting that he would like Ragna's plan to make everyone survive and laugh together come true.
  • Minion with an F in Evil: Despite his name, Evil Slime is relatively friendly and harmless to humans, though his is often quite obnoxious due to his own poor social skills.
  • Nice Mean And In Between: As rude and insensitive as he is, Slime is the nicest among Crimson's servants.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: He's immune to physical attacks and it's a very bad idea for dragons to try to attack him.
  • One-Hit Kill: Why Evil Slime is so dangerous despite his appearance and demeanor.
  • Pet the Dog: In a small but ultimately well-intentioned act, Slime offers Hesela the finger of Crimson he had been eating hoping to cheer her up after she breaks down crying over the deaths of her teammates.

    Golem
Golem is one of the three direct servants created by Crimson.
  • Deep Cover Agent: His main job for Crimson is to infiltrate organizations of interest to him, such as the Royal Army of Lese and the Solarian Church.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: During the battle against Artemisia in the capital, he deliberately sabotaged part of the city's explosions in Crimson's Batman Gambit, preventing the number of civilians killed and injured from being even higher. However, it turns out that Golem wasn't worried about the innocent civilians at all, but just wanted to confirm that his master was still the The Unfettered and once Crimson showed that he was still the same ruthless Bad Boss he remembered, he became overjoyed and vowed not to disobey him again.
  • Master Actor: He has the ability to change appearance, which is a very useful skill that helps him infiltrate various organizations following Crimson's orders.
  • Nice Mean And In Between: By far the most evil of Crimson's servants but ironically he is also the most sociable among them.
  • Lack of Empathy: He puts up an affable façade, but he doesn't care about other people or allies unless it's Crimson.

    Chimera
Chimera is one of the three loyal servants of Crimson.
  • BestFriend: With Snake. She often finds herself in situations where she doesn't know what to do, and Snake guides her whenever she needs it.
  • Book Dumb: She's not very smart. A simple math question (12+19) is the equivalent of an Armor-Piercing Question for her.
  • De-power: After she and Snake switched places during the climax of the fight against Borgius, she lost her powers and became basically a normal girl. Crimson says that her powers will eventually return, but she has become quite depressed about her current situation.
  • Epic Fail: Not being able to understand the conversation Ragna and the Prison Saint were having and not wanting to appear stupid, she then tried to change the subject, saying that a minute is fifty seconds, and they immediately point out that this was wrong, which leads her to lying on the floor in shame.
  • Living Shadow: Her strength and versatility comes from the availability of shadow areas. The more light she have in the combat area, the greater the shadows she can control.
  • Shapeshifter Default Form: Her default form is similar to a Cat Girl, but she can switch between a panther and a chimera-like form.
  • Undying Loyalty: Chimera has absolute loyalty towards Crimson and follows anything her master says.

    Snake
Snake is Chimera's tail. Later in the story it is revealed that it is Ferbigott, the oldest second seat of all dragons.
  • No Badass to His Valet: Although the other servants are fanatically loyal to Crimson, Snake is very familiar with him, to the point that he does not hesitate to criticize him if he sees fit.

Winged Bloodline

The Winged Brethren is one of the six main bloodlines of Dragons created by the Dragon God. Previously led by Crimson, the winged monarch is now Artemisia.
    In General
  • Back from the Brink: According to Borgius, the previous generation of the Winged Bloodline was driven to destruction because the previous Monarch (Crimson) descended into madness. After Artemis was chosen as the new monarch of the Winged Bloodline, she and her brethren were able to rebuild the bloodline to its full strength once more.
  • Badass Crew: All the members of the group are pretty good fighters that can wipe out armies and are very dangerous as their own.
  • Evil Is One Big, Happy Family: They all seem to genuinely enjoy each other's company.
  • Genocide Backfire: Obeying the Dragon God's commands, they tried to exterminate the entire population of the kingdom of Lese, believing they would meet little resistance. However, this would lead to the birth of Ragna "The Reaper", who would hunt down Bloodline members and make alliances with allies who helped him exterminate the Winged Bloodline in retaliation.
  • Villainous Friendship: They're the bad guys, yet they genuinely get along and enjoy spending time as friends and family.

    Artemisia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ultimatia_anime_design_0.jpg
Voiced by: Reina Ueda (Japanese), Juliet Simmons (English)
Artemisia, The Monarch of the Wings, is the first-ranked dragon of the Winged Brethren as well as their leader.
  • Affably Evil: Artemisia is kind, benevolent and her apology to the King of Lese for the destruction Kamui caused is sincere. That said, even though she doesn't like violence and causing the deaths of innocent people, she will not stop the genocide she was ordered to do, only committing to give the best Mercy Kill she can to her victims, which only adds to Ragna's contempt for her.
Ragna: Die, Winged Monarch. The greatest kindness you can do for anyone is to die right here and now.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: Her death is portrayed rather sympathetically. Fatally wounded, she tries to escape being burned alive by the rising sun and then begs for the Dragon God to save her once more but gets no response. Heartbroken, she remembers the promise that Kamui made with her, which encourages her to try to survive but she dies believing that she would soon rewind time and would wait for Kamui to fulfill his promise once again.
  • Angelic Beauty: She resembles a traditional angel and is a beautiful person.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Artemisia reflects that when Kamui told her not to die until he fulfilled his promise with her was the reason she fell in love with him. It didn't matter to her if the promise was never fulfilled, he gave her a reason to live and she would wait all the time in the world for him because of it.
  • Benevolent Boss: She treats her bloodline members very kindly, who in turn are totally devoted to her. The exception is Kamui, who easily manages to get on her nerves, but behind all the arguments and fights they have it's evident that they love each other romantically.
  • Break the Haughty: Artemisia's personality is not suited for battle as she doesn't like to fight, yet she has absolute confidence that her power to control time will ensure that she avoids any unwanted outcome, no matter how strong her opponent is. However, after Ragna managed to resist her power and came very close to killing her, the encounter left her so traumatized that she couldn't stop and rewind time since then.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: In a bonus chapter, when Kamui said that he fell in love with Gilzea('s strength) and gives several compliments to the Claw Monarch, Artemisia gets angry, stop time and throw his drink in his face.
  • Clones Are People, Too: The clones of the Sun Cult were treated as disposable. However, one of them, a high-ranking leader of the group, and who later became Artemisia, wanted to give some meaning to their lives and treated them as sisters instead. Unfortunately, it ended up causing a mass termination of the entire clone series and pushing Artemisia into accepting God's offer.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Artemisia's original name is "Number #19,835" and she is one of the many clones of Carla, the Time Saintness. Unlike the other clones, she had individuality and greatly exceeded the mana and lifespan of an average unit, which made the Sun God decide to make clones of her and chose her to look after their educations for the purpose of mass producing units like her. However the project was considered a failure as Artemisia tried to give the most humane treatment possible to all units, which according to Sun God caused some units to go insane and countless of them violated orders, deciding to get rid of all the contaminated Carlas along with her. With her and Kamui about to be killed, when the Dragon God appeared and offered her salvation, she accepted becoming Artemisia, the monarch of the Winged Bloodline.
  • Didn't See That Coming: What does her in after the severe wounds she sustained, Kaumi finally being defeated and the fight rearing up to her about to rewind time to undo it all? Hesela being healed just enough by Crimson to pull up one of his guns and fatally shoot her mid-sentence for the rewind cast. Artemisia is so absolutely shocked and horrified by her imminent death that she doesn't even attempt to realize who did it.
  • Dissonant Serenity: She's always kind and gentle even as she's orchestrating the genocide of entire kingdoms. The fact that she seems to be entirely genuine in her belief that she's doing the right thing only serves to make her creepier and more alien.
  • Hypocrite: For all her speech that she doesn't want the people of Lese's kingdom to suffer, she will still commit the genocide of the entire population, making her "mercy" false and quite hypocritical. Seeing her use Deadly Euphemism and believing that she was "saving" a family she had just helped made Ragna disgusted by her hypocrisy, deciding to try to kill her regardless of Crimson's orders. This peaks when Ragna comes close to killing her the first time; seeing genuine terror on her face outrages Ragna, as with all the blood on her hands, Ragna screams at her that she doesn't even have the right to be afraid of her oncoming death when she inflicted that same feeling on countless others.
  • Light Is Not Good: Artemisia is truly kind and abhors violence, but that doesn't stop her from committing atrocities out of a sense of duty to the Dragon God and a genuine belief that she is sparing humans from suffering. As Ragna puts it, knowing that she's killed countless people out of kindness can be the most horrifying thing about her.
  • Loophole Abuse: Unbeknownst to her, her future self attempted to turn Future Ragna into a Winged Bloodline dragon, which technically made him part of her brethren, and that also includes current Ragna, who has obtained all his powers. Therefore, when Artemisia allowed the members of her bloodline to remain unaffected while she used her time magic, Ragna ended up being included leading to her having an Oh, Crap! moment.
  • Moral Myopia: Artemisia cries and laments to Kamui how unfair it is that Ragna and his allies continue to live after making her and her brethren suffer. This completely ignores the fact that her bloodline committed thousands of murders in the kingdom and that the losses she had are the result of a Genocide Backfire.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: Even though the reason why the Dragon God ordered the destruction of the kingdom of Lese is incredibly petty, she and her bloodline will carry out the order because she is completely devoted to her god and that is his will.
  • Near-Villain Victory: After Kamui die before her, Artemisia's despair causes her to overcome her trauma and regain her time control powers. Realizing that she could bring her comrades back to life, she begins to rewind time but she is fatally shot in the back by Hazella, preventing her from undoing the heroes' victory.
  • Necessary Drawback: As powerful as it is, her time control ability has limits: she is not able to stop time and rewind it at the same time and reversing time universally consumes immense amounts of her mana, which is why it is only used as an ace card.
  • Oh, Crap!: When she discovers that Ragna is able to move even after she has stopped time, her stunned disbelief is soon after followed by a massive Villainous Breakdown.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: Zig Zagged. Strength-wise she's the weakest among all Dragon Monarchs and Kamui is certainly stronger than her, but her ability to control time is so problematic that it is considered a Story-Breaker Power by Crimson and the others.
  • Story-Breaker Power: Her Time Master power was one of the few things that made the Winged Bloodline nigh-invincible. It's a reason why Crimson threads around the Winged Bloodline carefully. Once she loses it, everything goes downhill for the Winged Bloodline.
  • Time Master: Artemisia can freeze and turn back time, and this ability is so broken that Crimson points out that the minimum requirement to defeat her and the Winged Bloodline is to make a successful surprise attack on her, otherwise she will undo any victory they achieve. Fortunately, her fight with Ragna left her so traumatized that she became unable to use her time control powers, giving the heroes an opportunity to defeat the Winged Bloodline once and for all.
  • Tsundere: The Dere variety. Artemisia typically presents herself with a kindhearted queenly persona, but Kamui is a genius at bringing out the tsundere in her.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Artemesia is a pretty poor fighter, always relying on her time manipulation magic. But even without that she's still a threat as her mana capacity is still off the charts that she's capable of pushing back Crimson by randomly blasting in every direction.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: She is not a violent or hateful person, but she is slavishly devoted to the commands of her Dragon God, which (she believes) are to destroy humanity. While she acknowledges that humanity suffering is a bad thing, she is seemingly incapable of grasping the concept that her deity may be in the wrong or that she may be misinterpreting the commands, so the best thing she can do for humanity is making its demise as painless as possible.

    Woltekamui
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/woltekamui_anime_design.jpg
Voiced by: Jun'ichi Suwabe
Wolte"Kamui", the Lightning Claw Dragon, is the second-ranked dragon of the Winged Brethren. A very literal Lightning Bruiser, he is by far the strongest dragon in the Winged Bloodline.
  • Always Someone Better:
    • Gilzea is that to him. When they first met, he was utterly defeated without even touching her, but was spared because she was curious to know what kind of person it was who killed her disciple and then left. Despite the defeat, he was excited to discover that there are people stronger than him and decided to keep the scars Gilzea left on him rather than erase them until one day he was strong enough to face her again.
    • In the end, Ragna proves to be that for him. Even after Kamui reaches his final form and briefly gives to our hero a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown, he is defeated by Ragna's Twin Dragon Hunting Flash, a strike far above anything he was capable of.
Kamui: I had usurped the strenghts of many and made them into my own. But I can't possibly imitate that! I can't even possibly imagine how you brought this move into realization!
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: In his own words, he considers pretty much everyone in the rest of the world worthless trash, only giving importance to those capable of impressing him, which very few are capable of such a feat.
  • Ax-Crazy: He takes great pleasure in stretching fights out as long as possible for maximum bloodshed.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Kamui, being Kamui, spares Starlia so she can forge to Ragna a sword capable of unleashing his power so they have a battle with both of them at full strengths. It turns out that the new sword, called the Silver Comet, makes a big difference in the battle and puts Kamui at a disadvantage for most of the fight, and even after he has a ''villainous'' second wind and briefly turns the tables, in the end he is defeated by Ragna, which led to Artemisia's death and the end of the Winged Bloodline.
  • Blood Knight: Kamui loves to fight and nothing makes him more excited to face a strong opponent. When he finds a Worthy Opponent in Ragna, instead of killing him when he had the chance, Kamui lets him escape and spares Starlia so that she can forge a sword for our hero so that in the next fight both are at their maximum power. This comes back to bite him and the Winged Bloodline in the ass royally. See Be Careful What You Wish For above.
  • Challenge Seeker: He decapitates Starlia (but does not kill her) in front of Ragna with the purpose of enraging him so that he will surpass his limits and give him the fight he so desperately desires. When that fails, he then allows Starlia to forge a sword with power on par with his Claw so that Ragna can fight him at his full power. This however ends up backfiring against him to say the least.
  • Debt Detester: His backstory reveals that he hates being indebted to anyone. This stems from when his mother died of electrocution giving birth to him, who from his perspective left him with a debt he could never repay, leading him to swear never to be indebted to anyone again. After Artemisia saved him at rewind time, he almost killed her on the spot for that before lamenting that he now owed another debt to someone else, prompting him to make a promise with her.
  • Diabolus ex Machina: After Ragna and the Argentum Corps repel Olta Zora's dragon armies and manage to survive the Taratectora's suicide attack, everyone is celebrating their victory and about to be teleported to safety. Suddenly, Kamui appears out of nowhere, kills Glea, decapitates Starlia and forces Ragna to endure a 9-second battle in which he would have been killed if he hadn't been teleported before that happened.
  • Didn't Think This Through: He goes out of his way to see Ragna's hidden power firsthand, and gets his wish; obviously, Kamui was so sure of his own might that he never once considered the possibility that he would actually lose.
  • Dramatic Irony: As Gilzea points out, Kamui was defeated and killed by Ragna shortly after finally reaching the peak of his strength and become strong enough to challenge her. Adding further irony, the reason for his defeat was because he was outspeed by Ragna, precisely the trait he was most proud of.
Gilzea: That's precisely why... I find it extremely unfortunate, genius of thunder. That the man who had outspeed every enemy that stood on his path lost in a battle of speed at the very last step of his journey...
  • The Dreaded: Without a doubt, he is the most powerful and dangerous dragon in the Winged Bloodline. Crimson's plans to deal with him are basically outrun him, as he's not sure if even Ragna is capable of defeating him.
Crimson: He's not a foe you beat with strategy. He's a foe you use strategy to avoid fighting.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: As Jerkass as he is, Kamui cares for his peers and is in love with Artemisia, whom he considers to be his woman (she violently disagrees with this, but she's just being Tsundere).
  • Flash Step: He can move as quickly as lightning.
  • The Gift: He is noted to be incredibly talented by several characters, growing stronger with every battle he faces, so much so that midway through the battle against Ragna, he attained a new form that brought him close to the power level of a Dragon Monarch.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Whenever he turns up, things are going to go south very, VERY fast.
  • Lightning Bruiser: He is a very literal example. Extremely strong, talented and able to move at lightning speed, covering absurd distances in seconds.
  • Noble Demon: He holds a certain degree of honor for those he respects. He lets Starlia forge a weapon capable of worthy of Ragna's power so that he fights at full strength as well as lets Ragna say goodbye to her before the battle between them.
  • No Challenge Equals No Satisfaction: At one point, he believed he was on the verge of becoming the strongest being in the world but that notion was shattered when he was easily curb-stomp by Gilzea. Despite the complete defeat, the encounter left Kamui excited to know that there are beings stronger than him, dispelling his despair that there would be no one strong enough to challenge him.
  • Oh, Crap!: Every time he senses that Ragna will use his Dragon Hunting Flash, Kamui instinctively has this reaction even after he reached the peak of his powers, which turns out to be good judgment on his part as this attack is the only one Ragna outspeeds him by a wide margin.
  • One-Winged Angel: During the final battle against Ragnar, he combines his weapon and abilities to achieve a new dragonified form.
  • Shock and Awe: In addition to his element being lightning, he can move at the speed of one.
  • The Tease: He constantly flirts with Artemisia, to the point of openly telling her that he considers her his woman, despite her protests.
  • Villainous Valour: As chaotic and bloodthirsty as Kamui was, he was utterly devoted to Artemisia. Once he realized that he lost the fight against Ragna and was about to die, he apologizes to Artemisia for not keeping his promise but vows to prevent her death. He tries to make one last attack on Ragna, but he fails thanks to Starlia's sword protecting him.

    Disastrois
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/disasterthrower.jpg
Disastrois, the Tempest Cell, is the third-ranked dragon of the Winged Brethren.
  • Blow You Away: He can manipulate the wind, being able to create several Razor Wind and a powerful tornado around him that protects him from attacks in his human form. In his full dragon form, he can create up to eight maelstroms at once, but out of arrogance he chose not to use all of his power against Crimson, which made him easily defeated by his strategy.
  • Cannot Talk to Women: Whether it's women in general or just Artemisia is unclear, but he is unbelievably awkward around her, at the very least.
  • Chuunibyou: Has some traits of an Evil Eye-type, with his propensity for dramatic monologue and his claimed ability to "speak with the wind", which everyone else believes to be total bullshit.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: While generally he's calm, he can be considered as one of the weirdest between the Winged Bloodline due to his continuous chatting with the wind as if it had life on its own, and he talks a lot with it. Both Kamui and Crimson say this is delusional on his part.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Downplayed. Disastrois was the third-ranked dragon of the Winged Brethren and he was far from weak, but because he could not imagine that he would be defeated, he didn't take his fight against Crimson seriously and this leads him to fall into various traps set by the former monarch and abruptly die. Crimson admits that if Trois had used his full power, beating him the way they did would have been impossible.
  • Meaningful Name: It's a combination of "disastrous" (tornadoes are a natural disaster, after all) and "trois", the French word for "three" (he is the third seat of the Winged Bloodline).
  • Sadist: Under the idea that the Wind told him that it likes to hear the screams of women suffering, he gathers women from the village that he destroyed in the air and slowly cuts her limbs, wanting to find out how much the human body can withstand being sliced up until it perishes.
  • Smug Super: Despite being in a homicidal rage, Disastrois was still fully confident of his victory and decided not to use more force than he determined was necessary against Crimson and his soldiers. That turned out to be a fatal mistake on his part.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: In his absurdly long rant he says he forgives Crimson's insults about him but it's absolutely unforgivable that he called Artemisia mad, prompting him to try to kill him.
  • Underestimating Badassery: That's the reason why he ended up getting killed. Had he taken his fight seriously from the start, Crimson admits that the strategy he used would have been rendered useless.
  • The Unfought: While Trois himself was fought, he never got to reveal his dragon form, in which he could control several tornadoes at once, but he died from a surprise attack before getting the chance to unleash it.
  • The Worf Effect: Essentially he is used to demonstrate how cunning and dangerous Crimson is, who played him like a fiddle during the battle.

    Nebulim
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nephilim.png
Nebulim, known as "The Barrier Dragon", is the fourth-ranked dragon among the Winged Brethren.
  • Badass on Paper: While he is a prodigy and ranked fourth among the Winged Brethren, he's not that much a threat and was dispatched easily. Crimson's plan for him in the Bonus Materials is basically just "Feed the guy to Slime".
  • Barrier Warrior: He can create a multitude of barriers, with each barrier carrying a different unique ability to it that is not shared by any of the other barriers. But it turns out that his true talent is being a Space Master.
  • Berserk Button: He is shy and introverted, but threatening and hurting Artemisia in his presence makes him very violent.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: He doesn't stand a chance against Ragna when he starts his attack on Artemisia, and can only try desperately to give his monarch some support so she can rewind time before she is killed. Likewise, when he and Crimson initiate a sort of a hacker duel between the two Space Masters in the final battle against Winged Bloodline, Nebulim is defeated in a matter of seconds.
  • Eaten Alive: By Evil Slime. TWICE.
  • Foil: To Ragna. Both don't feel good in crowds, are considered prodigies by their peers, have self-esteem issues but they will protect their comrades with all the strength they have when necessary. However, while Nebulim has immense innate talent, Ragna has none but through hard work and convoluted means has become the World's Strongest Man. And while Ragna seeks to Set Right What Once Went Wrong, his actions end up inflicting on Nebulim a similar Bad Future that he wanted to avoid for himself and his friends.
  • The Gift: Borgius believes that because Nebulim's maturation period was instantaneous, he has more potential than even Woltekamui.
  • Humiliation Conga: Oscillates between this and Trauma Conga Line. Despite the high expectations his peers had for him, Nebulim is powerless to protect Artemisia from Ragna and then Crimson on the two occasions she is attacked, is digested by Evil Slime both times, sacrifices himself to empower Borgius in a final act to protect Artemisia only for the old dragon to die shortly afterwards and then Artemisia is killed anyway, marking the end of the Winged Bloodline he wanted so badly to protect. He somehow survived, but he has nothing to celebrate.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: He sees himself as way too inferior to Kamui, both in terms of power and ability to support Artemesia.
  • Sole Survivor: He was the only dragon who survived after Ragna and the Argentum Corps wiped out the Winged Bloodline.
  • Support Party Member: While he can fight, somewhat, his primary role is to facilitate the Winged Bloodline's plans by using his versatile barriers.
  • Unexplained Recovery: It's unknown how he managed to survive being digested by Evil Slime.

    Taratectora
Taratectora is the fifth-ranked dragon of the Winged Brethren.
  • Action Bomb: As the Explosive Dragon, he has the ability to violently detonate, sacrificing his life but razing everything in a wide area with power rivaling a nuclear explosion.
  • Brains and Brawn: His dynamics with Olto Zora. Taratectora is the brawn that goes out and does the more physical work and Olto Zora being the brains behind of Winged Brethren' operations.
  • The Comically Serious: In contrast to the rest of the Winged Bloodline, he is always reacts with deadpan seriousness to all the wackiness of his teammates.
  • Determinator:
    • His maturation was the longest of Winged Bloodline (it took him 20 years when the average is between 10-15 years) indicating his lack of talent as a dragon, but he made up for it through effort and relentless training over several years.
    • After dying, he somehow redirect the radius of his suicidal explosions towards Ragna and the rest of the Argentum Corps, turning what would otherwise be chaotic explosions into the equivalent of various Kamehame Hadoken.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: He repeatedly tells Olto Zora not to call him Tara.
  • Having a Blast: He has the power to create powerful explosions, which has given him the title The Explosive Dragon.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: His talent for magic is almost nil and the most he can do is explode drops of his blood, so he focuses on increasing his physical abilities as much as he can through training for several years. It worked and he is considered one of the powerhouses of Winged Bloodline.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: Aside from occasionally engaging in some courtesies with opponents he considers worthy, he doesn't mess around. He starts the battle with a powerful attack that would wipeout the entire Argentum Corps if Ragna hadn't deflected it, fights Ragna until he concludes that he is no longer the biggest threat on the battlefield (which would later prove to be a grave mistake), bombards the enemy army from a distance six times and would have continued if Olto Zora had not told him to stop, and when he is sustains a fatal wound by Ragna, he explodes himself to attempt to exterminate the enemy. Because of this characteristic of his, supplementary material reveals that Crimson considers him the most dangerous dragon in the Winged Bloodline, second only to Kamui.
  • Taking You with Me: After he is mortally wounded by Ragna, Taratectora uses his magic to nuke himself and try to wipeout our hero along with the Argentum Corps. It didn't work due to Ragna, with the help of Starlia, use his powers to freeze the entire explosion.
  • Villainous Friendship: He and Olto Zora were close friends when they were still humans, and their friendship remained unshaken after both were transformed into dragons.

    Olto Zora
Olto Zora is the sixth-ranked dragon of the Winged Brethren. When he was still human, he was a soldier of the Kingdom of Reise under princess Lakucia's command along his old friend, Taratectora.
  • Avenging the Villain: After Taratecora's death, his main mission in life becomes to avenge Taratecora's death, deciding to kill the entire Argentum Corps.
  • Eye Motifs: He can make eye-shaped growths appear on things in a wide area and see through them, making him adept at keeping track of the battlefield. He also has six eyes himself.
  • Graceful Loser: Having been defeated in a grueling battle by the soldiers of the Argentum Corps, Olto Zora commend them for their victory and laments that he has nothing but his life to give them as a reward, which prompting him to cure Starlia of her poisoning before dying, saving her life.
Olto Zora: You kids fought very well.... That's my... honest opinion. I wish that I could give something more... than just... my life.
  • I Regret Nothing: Although he admits that he suffered a miserable fate, Olto Zora ultimately dies without feeling a single regret, being grateful both for having met Princess Lakucia and for becoming a member of the Winged Brethren.
  • Improperly Paranoid: After realizing that the same person who exploded the bombs in the capital had allied with Argentum Corps and that therefore the "Reaper" was nearby, Olto Zora decides not to call Kamui for fearing that it is a strategy of the enemy to attract the Kamui away and try to kill Artemisia while she is vulnerable, but Ragna and the others only seek to flee Lese's realm and have no intention of making such attack. As Crimson notes, precisely because Olto Zora is an intelligent and cautious battle commander is why he reached this wrong conclusion.
  • Loss of Identity: His love for Princess Lakucia was so fierce that the Winged Bloodline had to basically reformat his entire personality, turning him into a Sissy Villain, just to make him suitable for serving their cause. Hence, upon becoming a dragon, Olto Zora finds that he is unable to invoke the emotions attached to the memories of when he was human, not feeling anything even standing in front of Lakucia's tomb despite knowing that he loved her with all his heart and that Kamui was the one who killed her, only feeling adoration for Artemisia. Despite that, he finds himself hesitant to kill Starlia when he has the opportunity to do so due to the Silverware Princess reminding him so much of his former love, seeking to spare her and turn her into a dragon during their battle.
  • Master Poisoner: Specifically his power is chemical synthesis. He can instantly create lethal drugs, as well as hypnotics that put his victims under his control, being able to release the poison in a mist that can cover a large area, as well as creating drugs that make the dragons under his control even stronger.
  • Sissy Villain: He is gay and flamboyant, and strongly implied to be attached to his partner Taratectra romantically. However, when he was human, he was in love with Princess Lakucia and he hesitates to kill Starlia because she reminds him of his former love.
  • Taking You with Me: He has the ability to secrete chemicals that make his allies stronger, but they are lethal in large doses, allowing him to grant immense power to the dragons under his control at the cost of killing them in a matter of minutes. In the final battle, upon realizing that he cannot defeat the Argentum Corps, he uses this ability on himself in an attempt to massacre as many of them as he can before his inevitable demise.
  • The Strategist: He is a brilliant strategist, with his primary role managing and directing Winged Bloodline's military affairs.
  • Support Party Member: He is not a great fighter, by dragon standards, but he has a cunning mind and several versatile abilities.
  • You Remind Me of X: Starlia reminds him of Princess Lakucia, whom he was in love with when he was still human, which leads him to stop himself from killing her when he has the chance and seeking to turn her into a dragon.

    Borgius
Borgius is the seventh-ranked dragon of the Winged Brethren as well as one of the oldest member of the bloodline.
  • All for Nothing: He decides to regain the peak of his powers, using the blood of two million people to regain his form at its peak, knowing that he would die shortly after the battle against Ragna and his allies, in order to protect the Winged Bloodline one last time. And despite his best efforts, he is killed along with the rest of his brethren.
  • Dark Lord on Life Support: Time caught up with him and he is forced to parasitize others to stay alive, reducing himself to the equivalent of a Puppeteer Parasite.
  • Didn't See That Coming: As far as he was aware, Borgius believed he was the last living dragon of the previous generation of the Winged Bloodline. That's why he was completely shocked to see Ferbigott appear before him, realizing before he died that this meant that Crimson was still alive.
  • Feeling Their Age: He was a very powerful dragon, but his advanced age and his decaying state means that he has less than 5% of his former power, to the point that he needs to parasitize others in order not to die.
  • Green Thumb: His specialty.
  • I Was Quite a Looker: After he regains his youth, we see that iBorgius' humanoid form in his prime is an handsome muscular man with very long hair and his ears are pointy.
  • The Last Dance: Aware that his advanced age does not make him fit to fight, as well as he would eventually die anyway, Borgius asks Artemisia that the blood of the humans in the capital be given to him so he can briefly regain his youth and he can defend Artemisia and the Winged Bloodline one last time.
  • The Mentor: As the oldest and most experienced dragon, he being one of the two remaining alive after the Crimson betrayed the Dragon God, he is referred to by many as a "teacher" by the younger dragons, including Artemisia, who outranked him.

    Temruogtaf
Voiced by: Kōzō Shioya
Temruogtaf is the bloodline dragon holding the 8th rank within the Winged Bloodline.
  • Eating the Enemy: His primary form of attack is simply dragging prey into his bottomless maw.
  • Fat Bastard: He is an obese dragon who loves gorging on humans.
  • Flower Mouth: He and Mature dragons spawned from him have mouths that unfold like flowers, with Combat Tentacles to drag enemies down their gullets.
  • I Am a Humanitarian: His favorite food is human flesh. While this is not exclusive to him among dragons, he stands out due to how much of a Villainous Glutton he is.
  • Reality Warper: His signature ability is "predation magic", which, instead of a single powerful trick, is a series of minor reality hacks with the unified purpose of turning him into a perfect hunter. This includes abilities like altering the surrounding terrain to a more favorable one, suppress his light, sound and smell to camouflage himself, create invisible magical footholds for maneuvering around the battlefield and alter gravity to draw in prey.
  • Sdrawckab Name: His name is "Fat Gourmet" backwards, which is exactly what he is.
  • Villainous Glutton: He likes a good meal above all, and his favorite food is people. Yeah, he qualifies.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: He is killed almost as soon as he is introduced.

    Dornea
Dornea was the ninth-ranked dragon of the Winged Brethren.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Word of God says that Dornea is the one responsible for the deaths of Starlia and the rest of the Argentum Corps in the previous timeline in a very tight battle. After Future Ragna sent his powers to his version of the present and started a new timeline, a butterfly effect occurred and changed the outcome of his battle against the Argentum Corps, with Starlia and her army being the victors instead of him.
  • Killed Offscreen: He is killed offscreen by the Argentum Corps, and it is revealed that Garm was the one who dealt the final blow to him.
  • Spikes of Doom: His specialty is creating powerful spikes, which have a long and wide attack range. Fu absorbs this ability from him and uses it against his brethren.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: By far the least developed member of the Winged Bloodline and he only appears alive in a flashblack of the previous timeline.

Clawed Bloodline

The Bloodline of Claws is composed only by the Monarch of Claws. The Monarch is known to not have any kin but if she finds someone worthy, she'll teach them her martial arts, if satisfied the King will gift them a demonic blade. There are 6 claws and 2 fangs, in total those 8 blades are known as the world's strongest. The claws are known to change their property according to the owner. The individuals who possess those blades are commonly known as Kinsmen of Claw.
    Gilzea
Gilzea is the monarch of the Clawed Brethren and supposedly the current strongest dragon alive aside from the Dragon God.
  • Accidental Murder: Simply appearing in the aftermath of Leonica and Yugo saving the citizens of Leese killed all 3,315 refugees in seconds. Gilzea didn't do it intentionally, she does it by simply existing, but she also clearly just doesn't care.
  • Affably Evil: While encountering Gilzea causes the death of those who are too weak and is still often traumatizing for those who survive it, she is friendly and helpful to the very few who manage to remain conscious in front of her. Even after Kamui tries (and fails) to kill her, she later encourages him to become strong so that he can one day achieve such a feat.
  • Always Someone Better: In a flashback, it is shown that Kamui, who was the strongest dragon introduced so far, was utterly trounced by her without him even being able to touch her. Since then, he has sought to become strong enough to one day challenge her again.
    • Gilzea also tells Kamui that even she has an opponent she cannot kill despite desperately wanting to.
  • Break the Badass: Both Leonica and Yugo Robles are talented dragon hunters who can take on Superior Dragons on their own, but when Gilzea appears before them the latter immediately faints and Leo is completely paralyzed by sheer terror.
  • Brown Note Being: She is so strong that her mere presence gives off a pressure that causes those who are too weak to lose their sanity and die. Therefore, the minimum requirement for her to accept disciples is that the candidate be able to gaze at her while maintaining his sanity.
  • Chained by Fashion: She always has her hands cuffed. But make no mistake, she is far from defenseless.
  • Counter-Attack: In her own words, those who try to cut her are invariably cut by her, as she demonstrates on Kamui twice. This is not simply a question of Gilzea acting quicker than her opponents, rather, reality itself seems to get rewritten in order to turn the attacker into the attacked. It does need to be manually activated by her, meaning that an attack that takes Gilzea by surprise can bypass this ability. Easier said than done, as she's very close to being the World's Strongest Woman.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Kamui got his ass handed to him by her.
  • Dare to Be Badass: Hearing Leonica scream that she would be the strongest, Gilzea challenges her to repeat that in front of her one more time. Then she offers Leo to join the Bloodline of Claws if she wants to back up all her big talk with actions, which she accepts.
  • Dissonant Serenity: She never shows much in the way of fear, anger, or almost any emotions, even when someone is trying to kill her.
  • Fair-Play Villain: She doesn't care who or what you are, Human or Dragon; if you have the potential to be strong, she's interested in seeing you reach your full potential, and a legend goes that she outright gives those who manage to complete her training to a satisfactory level a demonic sword fit for a Dragon King. Even if you proclaim you'll kill her afterwards like Leo does, she takes it in stride as expectation.
  • Foil: The monarch of the Clawed Bloodline contrasts Artemisia, the monarch of the Winged Bloodline, in multiple ways.
  • I Am the Trope: She first introduces herself simply as "Death" to Kamui.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Gilzea appears to act as if she is aware that she is in a work of fiction, but she is actually assuming the character archetypes of those around her from her perspective. For example, she says that she thought Kamui was an "Invincible Superhero" type and then concludes that he is a "Courageous Genius" type, and although the latter definition is technically correct, Gilzea was dead wrong in assuming that Kamui would be any kind of "superhero".
Gilzea: I won't allow any superhero tropes like "I healed the cuts and stood up again'' in front of my presence.
  • Mentor Archetype: Word for word, she calls herself one. And indeed, she will accept as her disciples all those she deems worthy, human or dragon. As long as they manage to survive her presence first, of course.
  • Slasher Smile: That's her default expression.
  • Thousand-Yard Stare: Her eyes always seem to be staring into the abyss and, paired with her Slasher Smile, the effect is chilling.
  • Villain Takes an Interest: It's questionable if she's a villain yet, but the moment Leonica declared herself to be aiming to become the strongest, Gilzea appeared. And then Leo, Saix and Nebulim managed to become her students by simply surviving her presence.
  • When She Smiles: When Saix asked to also become her disciple along with Leo, it made her smile with genuine delight at having gotten three disciples.
  • World's Strongest Woman: A strong candidate for the post. That said, Gilzea implies that there is something/someone that even she cannot defeat.

Others

    The Dragon God
An invading alien god and the creator of the dragon race.
  • Eldritch Abomination: It is basically an alien god, who's very existence is anathema to the world it has invaded and defies it's laws.
  • Evil Is Petty: The Winged Bloodline believes that humanity only continues to exist because of the Dragon God's merest of whims, and that just to show humanity how worthless they are in its eyes, it has decided to kill them on the merest of whims, enacting genocide on an entire nation because a shop it favored was robbed.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: It's very existence has transformed the Earth into a living hell, but it rarely acts directly.
  • Monster Progenitor: It converted the Dragon Kings from humans, who in turn created subordinates by converting other humans and by using their blood to create lesser dragons.

    Leonica
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leonica_anime_design.jpg
Voiced by: Inori Minase (Japanese), Cat Thomas (English)
Leonica "Leo" is a young dragon hunter prodigy, ranked 1st in the city of Ronabera. Since early age she hunted dragons with Ragna.
  • The Apprentice: Realizing how weak she is compared to Gilzea, Leonica decides to become a disciple of the Monarch of Claws in order to become stronger, though she makes it clear to her master that one day she will hunt her down.
  • Badass Adorable: Despite being twelve years old she's quite the swordmaster and she's undoubtedly cute.
  • Child Prodigy: She is twelve years old and is the strongest dragon hunter of her city.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Was subjected to one by Ragna when he decides to separate from her, defeating her with a single finger when she tries to attack him to stop him from leaving.
  • Decoy Protagonist: Leonica initially appears to be the lead heroine but Ragna abandons her very early on in the story in order to focus on his hunt for the dragons without putting her at risk, causing her to be Out of Focus for several chapters. After Starlia Leese is introduced to the plot, the author confirms that the Silveware Princess is the true heroine of the story and that Leo has her own role to play.
  • Heroic BSoD: First was her being abandoned by Ragna for her own good, as he was so much stronger than her that the two tagging together would've inevitably gotten Leonica killed. Then after the Winged Bloodline war, as she's helping clean up errant remnants of the bloodline that have tried to expand into other territories, she meets Gilzea. Saix, who usually sees her as a pedestal of someone he wants to overcome, had a complete and utter mental breakdown of a Despair Event Horizon over the meeting, and wonders how Leonica is able to stay calm. Leo proceeds to demonstrate that she is all but a mere step away from breaking down like him, even outright saying that she simply cannot even continue living like she was knowing such a Humanoid Abomination exists. So she'll channel all that existential despair into killing Gilzea instead of letting it consume her; this actually inspires Saix to (barely) follow suit.
  • Made of Iron: Compared to how most other dragon hunters outside of the Argentum Corps are Made of Plasticine and tend to be chopped to bits or turned into Ludicrous Gibs in seconds, Leonica faces with a 13th seat of the Winged Bloodline who even has his own evolution mid-battle and takes a hell of a beating— and comes out of it bloodied, bruised, but still standing as the victor where even a Corps member was Blown Across the Room out of the fight non-fatally. It helps show that she's strong by human standards, but not strong enough by the sheer threat of higher-class dragons at that point.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: By series standards Leonica is indeed a talented dragon slayer but compared to Ragna and Gilzea she is a Boisterous Weakling at the best. Realizing this is the reason why she decides to become Gilzea's disciple.
  • Secretly Selfish: Once Ragna voices his decision to leave Leo behind for her own safety, she flips out and then demands he be there for her to watch over, before realizing just how selfish that sounded as it flusters her greatly. It reinforces to Ragna that she's still just a child that has grown emotionally dependent on him being there for her rather than angering or making him pity her.
  • Took a Level in Badass: At the start of the series, a Dragon moderately stronger than any average dragon would've killed her outright had Ragna gotten his power from the future specifically to prevent outcomes like this. By the time Leonica is revisited, though she has to fight bloodily for victory over it, she manages to overcome a thirteenth-seat Winged Bloodline member in single combat after it had evolved mid-fight to shrug off the damage she and a Corps member had done to it. The member himself outright thinks she evolved as a human mid-fight just to accomplish this. Then Gilzea appeared, creating the right circumstances for Leonica to go further.

Ragna from a Bad Future. Having gotten extremely powerful, unfortunately he has nothing left to protect in his timeline, which makes him decide make a Heroic Sacrifice and give all of his powers to his past self so he can Set Right What Once Went Wrong.
  • Better to Die than Be Killed: Preferring to die rather than transform into a dragon and suffer a Loss of Identity, he pierced himself through the heart with what was left of his silver sword. This ironically would be the first step that would make him the World's Strongest Man.
Future Ragna: My life was meaningless. But... I won't let you use it... in the way you want.
  • Body Horror: He used a silver aura sword so much and so endlessly in his never-ending crusade against the dragons that the sword physically melded to his body in a gradual integration of flesh and life aura. What should've been mind-breaking amounts of pain was simply dull to someone as broken as he was, and before long he became a one-of-a-kind entity that is all but walking Silver.
  • Covered with Scars: Due to the thousands of battles he endured, he accumulated several scars.
  • Failure Hero: As strong as he is, the sad fact is he took too long to reach his level of strength and there is no one else he can protect in his timeline. This leads him to decide to sacrifice his life and transfer all of his powers to his younger self in hopes that he can stop this future from happening.
Future Ragna: Now I can protect everything that I once lost!! But I don't have a single thing left to protect. So what's the point?! Why I am so strong?! What good is this strength when it's not needed anymore?!
  • Future Badass: He's a future version of Ragna who grew powerful after a lifetime of slaying dragons. At the end of his life, he gives his power to his younger self to change the past and save the people he lost across his life.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: He pays with his life to give all his powers to his younger self but he dies happy to see that Leo's fateful death didn't happen thanks to that.
  • I Hate Past Me: He is deeply ashamed of his past for worshiping Leo as a hero but not being strong enough to save her life. During the brief encounter with the current Ragna, he tells his younger self that the very thought of him makes him sick.
  • Powerful and Helpless: He is THE strongest human, but this mean nothing when there is none left for him to protect.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He only appears in person in the first chapter and dies at the end, but it was his actions that ultimately played the biggest role in giving Ragna the chance to face the dragons, essentially kicks off the plot.
