    Summer Rose

    Taiyang Xiao Long
Ruby and Yang's father.
  • Papa Wolf: Mess with his children, you mess with him.

    Raven Branwen
Yang's biological mother. Unlike in canon, she's an ally of Ozpin and the heroes. After sacrificing her life to save Qrow, she becomes a Guardian of Death.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Raven lacks her canon counterpart's villainous qualities, such as her cowardice and selfishness. The biggest contrast between the canon Raven and the Raven here is that the latter is willing to fight Salem's forces to help her family and friends rather than run away to save herself.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Zig-Zagged. Raven is not the Spring Maiden in this story, but she does become a Guardian of Death.
  • Death by Adaptation
  • Heroic Sacrifice: She jumps in the way of Cinder's blade to save Qrow's life.
  • Honorary Aunt: To Ruby, who refers to her as Aunt Raven and regrets never being to talk to her.
  • Mama Bear: Even in death, she is this to Yang, collecting the soul of Adam Taurus after everything he's done to her.
  • Psychopomp: Raven becomes a Guardian of Death after Cinder kills her, escorting the souls of those too vile for even Hell to The Nothing After Death.

    Qrow Branwen

Husband of Lan Feng, and chieftain of the Promethean Tribe of Himawari.

  • An Offer You Can't Refuse: Throws it back at Salem's face even when threatened with a slow and painful death.
  • Cool Sword: He wields the legendary blade of the Promethean Tribe, "Dawnbringer".
  • Crazy-Prepared: Knowing that Salem will undoubtedly kill him and everyone he loved for defying her An Offer You Can't Refuse, he enacts an emergency contingency plan that ensures that Salem and her inner circle will never have the weapons and secrets of his tribe, nor the location of Tintagel. He succeeds.
  • Defiant to the End: Spends his last moments laughing mockingly at Salem, the Grimm Mistress, even when she offers him one last chance to betray the Knight Order.
  • Dying Moment of Awesome: Kills a whole mountain of Grimm creatures before finally being overwhelmed, and even defeated an alpha Grimm Manticore by himself.
  • Famed In-Story: Revered by his people for single-handedly defeating an Elder Grimm for terrorizing his tribe.
  • Happily Married: With his wife Lan Feng, who borne him a son.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Performs one to give his only son a chance to escape and be rescued by the Remnant Knights.
  • Implausible Fencing Powers: Part of the reason why few people and Faunus could fight on par against him, let alone defeat him.
  • Large and in Charge: Hong Long is physically the tallest and most muscular-looking member of the Promethean Tribe. Fitting, because he's the Chieftain.
  • Last Words: Gives a badass one to Salem of all people even while dying.
Hong Long: Gone. Away from here. Safe from you and your minions. He's in the place you seek. You will never find it, or my son. You...will never win.
  • Master Swordsman: Considered to be an incredibly proficient and renowned swordsman among the clans and tribes of Mistral.
  • Red Is Heroic: His chieftian outfit is mostly red and white, with some silver accents. His armor suit, on the other hand, is almost completely red.
  • Secret-Keeper: Knows about the existence of the Knight Order, and had even personally met them once.
  • Worthy Opponent: Respected by many other noble warriors and heads of Mistral's clans and tribes for his analytical mind and combat prowess.
  • Wrecked Weapon: His weapon (implied not to be Dawnbringer) broke when he killed an unusually huge alpha Grimm Manticore which dealt a death blow to him as well.

     Fei Lang Feng

Fei Lan Feng (Soaring Azure Phoenix)

Debut: Chapter 83: Towards a Darker Tomorrow (flashback)

Hong Long's wife, and chieftess of the Promethean Tribe of Himawari.

  • The Ace: Her impressive skills as an archer were respected far and wide in many of Mistral's other clans and tribes.
  • Blue Is Heroic: Her chieftess outfit is mostly blue and white, with some gold accents.
  • Bow and Sword in Accord: While she can fight with both mentioned weapons, she only draws her katana in dire circumstances.
    • She also keeps a hidden dagger as a last resort.
  • Defiant to the End: Took her own life to prevent herself from being captured by Salem's agents and be used as leverage against her husband, but not before killing many of them.
  • Happily Married: With her husband Hong Long, and borne him a son.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: It goes without saying that Lan Feng's quite gorgeous as well, with many men from other clans and tribes actively courting her before her eventual marriage to Hong Long.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Performs one (as a major distraction) to give her only son a chance to escape and be rescued by the Remnant Knights.
  • Horse Archer: She's so well-versed in riding a horse that she can hit any target (no matter the distance) even when riding from on a moving horse at high speeds.
  • Hyper-Awareness: Reason why she was such a formidable archer.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: She can shoot any target (static or otherwise) from incredible distances with her bow and quiver of arrows, and was mentioned to have never missed a target she has her sights on.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Wields a katana as her secondary weapon.
  • Lady of War: Lan Feng seems to have a gentle and benevolent demeanor, but she's extremely proficient with her signature bow and katana.
  • The Straight and Arrow Path: While guns and sniper rifles exist on Remnant, Lan Feng still prefers to use her bow and Dust-tipped arrows.
  • Yamato Nadeshiko: Certainly has the looks, the mannerisms, but can certainly put anyone in their place either with sharp words or a literal arrow.
  • Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Zig-Zagged. She has long, flowing black hair, but her skin colour is more of a healthy beige than ivory.

Former Guardian of the Aura Crystal and Cinder's younger brother.

  • Angsty Surviving Twin: Ashe was like this until he discovered his elder sister Cinder was alive.
  • Badass Family: The Kasai family, being guardians of the Aura Crystal for some time, most definitely counts as well.
  • Character Development: Bonding with Team RNJR helps him become a better person.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Cinder kills him by slamming her flaming fist into his chest, grabbing his heart, and burning it.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: His parents were murdered by his sister Cinder in her single-minded pursuit for power (which he doesn't know), his significant other Mila was murdered by Saul Jude for saving him, and the latter died with their child still in her womb. He then spent the next few decades Walking the Earth with the Aura Crystal and looking for Cinder while believing that she was still alive and well, only to find out that she had been corrupted by Salem and given the awful truth that she actually murdered their parents.
  • Died Happily Ever After: Ashe and Mila were reunited in the afterlife at the end of Chapter 25.
  • Due to the Dead: Ashe Kasai got a burial attended by those who knew him in Chapter 25.
  • Duel to the Death: Ashe versus Jude in Chapter 24.

  • Face Death with Dignity: When his death finally comes he accepts it gracefully.
  • Good is Not Nice: At times. Considering what he's been through, can't say we blame him.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: Forms one with Team RWBY (Who are in their teens when he's in his 30's.)
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold
  • Mentor Archetype: Acts as one to Jaune, helping him unlock his semblance.
  • Not Afraid to Die: Ashe, full stop. After whatever hell he has gone through, it's totally justified.
  • Sword and Gun: Ashe likes to fight this way in bigger battles.

    Ember Kasai
Cinder and Ashe's mother.

    Kojin Kasai

Cinder and Ashe's father.

    Mila

Mila

Chosen Voice Actress: Olivia Olsen

Debut: Chapter 2: Alone in the Woods (flashback)

Ashe Kasai's fiancé

    Neopolitan
Roman Torchwick's former partner.
  • Abled in the Adaptation: Neo is genuinely mute in canon, but here, Neo is only pretending to be mute and only reveals she can speak to people she has befriended.
  • Adaptational Heroism: While Neo in canon remains an antagonist even after Roman's death, here she becomes an ally of the heroes.
  • Cute and Psycho: Neo has shades of this, even when betraying Salem's forces and rescuing Ruby, Jaune, and Ozpin.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After Roman's death, she carries out his last order to sabotage Cinder's work in secret, and becomes an ally of the heroes.
  • Nothing Personal: Neo states this regarding everything she's done as an enemy of RWBY and their friends.
  • The Not-Love Interest: Neo confirms that she and Roman were only best friends, and they were never romantically involved.
  • Obfuscating Disability: Neo's actually can talk, she just prefers to talk to people she likes, which makes it surprising to those who thought she was mute.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Roman, to the point she carries out his last orders to sabotage Salem's forces in secret and help her former enemies.
