Characters / Quake Champions: Doom Edition

Go To

Quake Champions: Doom Edition affords quite the roster of Champions, almost twice that of the original Quake Champions (31 for the former vs the latter's 16) and sourced from various franchises all across the medium of first-person shooters (although there are a few original characters). Unlike the vanilla QC roster, QCDE divides its champions into 3 distinct weight classes:

    open/close all folders

Medium Champions

    Ranger

Ranger

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn01.png
Slipgate Marine
Game of origin: Quake
Active ability: Dire Orb - Launches an orb that pierces and damages enemies. Activating it again teleports Ranger to the location of the orb. Can telefrag enemies.
Passive ability: Rocket Resilience - Takes 20% less damage from explosives, particularly Rockets and Tribolt bolts.
Voiced By: Jim Ward (Archival Audio - Quake Champions)

  • Badass Normal: Possesses armour that mitigates the effects of explosive damage alongside the Dire Orb, but is still otherwise the relatively PTSD-wracked Slipgate Marine.
  • Determinator: Never gives up despite being in constant torment, as is evident by his dialogue.
  • Sequence Breaking: In PvE to a hilarious degree; the Dire Orb is infamous for its capability to effortlessly break maps when given the proper travel sightline, allowing Ranger to teleport to otherwise inaccessible areas or simply bypass gates, walls and chasms that direct an intended progression path. Being a particularly small projectile also allows the Orb to squeeze through relatively tight gaps, even more so than what light champions could get away with using their shrunken hitboxes.
  • Travel to Projectile: Ranger can teleport to any part of the arena by using his Dire Orb, which shoots an orb in a straight line that can be cancelled at any point, the result being Ranger getting teleported to his intended destination.

    Doom Slayer

Doom Slayer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn02.png
Game of origin: Doom series
Active ability: BFG - Produces the Trope Namer BFG-9000, firing a ball of plasma that damages enemies within an area-of-effect while in-flight, melting armour of those with it and slowing those without. Deals massive damage upon impact with an enemy.
Passive ability: Double Jump - Allows for a second jump while in mid-air.
Voiced By: Piotr Michael (Archival Audio - DOOM (2016))

  • Early-Installment Weirdness:
    • Originally used grenades as his Active Ability, but it was later switched out for the BFG.
    • His pain and death vocalisations were also those sourced from the original DOOM, prior to being switched out for complete silence to better match Quake Champions.

    Corvus

Corvus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn03.png
Game of origin: Heretic
Active ability: Wings of Wrath - Allows Flight for a short duration of time.
Passive ability: Elven Vitality - Corvus' health gradually regenerates while not taking damage.
Voiced By: Daniel Riordan (Archival Audio - Heretic II)

    Galen

Galen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn11.png
Active ability: Unholy Totem - Plants a totem that heals self and allies and explodes when enemies get near it. Up to five totems can be spawned at a time.
Passive ability: Channeling - Collecting medium and large health items reduces the active ability cooldown time.
Voiced By: Abby Craden (Archival Audio - Quake Champions)

    Duke Nukem

Duke Nukem

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn14.png
Game of origin: Duke Nukem series
Active ability: Freeze Thrower - Activates the iconic Freeze Thrower from Duke Nukem 3D. Shoots ice balls that slow down and eventually freeze enemies in place. Alt-fire engages the Mighty Foot, which deals massive damage to frozen enemies.
Passive ability: Huge Ego - Health items give Duke more health.
Voiced By: Jon St. John (Archival Audio - Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour)

  • An Ice Person: His active ability makes use of the Freeze Thrower against his enemies.
  • Badass Normal: Despite only packing the Freezethrower, the King still has both the Ego and Balls of Steel to throw down with QCDE's cavalcade of monsters and gods.
  • Cool Shades: It wouldn't be the iconic "Duke Nukem 3D"-era Duke if he didn't have his signature shades.

    Sarge

Sarge

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn17.png
Game of origin: Quake III: Arena
Active ability: None.
Passive abilities:
Veteran - Sarge has Quake III Live health and armour overstacks (+100 health from Mega Health items, +100 armour from Heavy armour and +50 from Light armour). Hourglasses give +12 armour that can overstack.
Stacked (PvE only) - Health and armour overstacks from pickups don't degenerate over time.
Voiced By: George Exley

    Grayson

Grayson Hunt

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn19.png
Game of origin: BulletStorm
Active ability: Leash Thumper - Charges up an energy ball that, upon impact, will hoist nearby enemies into the air and hold them there for a few seconds.
Passive abilities:
Personal Dropkit - By holding the "use" key, Grayson can spend 25 armour points to refill 50% of his currently selected weapon's capacity.
Bounty Hunter - Killing enemies grants armour points.
Voiced By: Steve Blum (Archival Audio - Bulletstorm)

  • Composite Character: Utilizes an edited spritesheet of the "Human 1" enemy from the Raven Software shooter Necrodome.
  • Goggles Do Nothing: Wears goggles but usually has them on his neck.

    Blazkowicz

B.J. Blazkowicz

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn21.png
Game of origin: Wolfenstein series
Active ability: Kraftsman - Allows B.J. to temporarily dual-wield the Dieselkrafterk and Laserkraftwerk. The former lobs explosive napalm balls, while the latter fires a hitscan bolt of electricity.
Passive ability: Blitz - After two seconds without taking damage, B.J.'s health will quickly regenerate to the nearest multiple of 25 (i.e. a single block on the health bar).
Voiced By: Richard Neil (Archival Audio - Quake Champions)

  • BFG: Two of them in fact, in the form of the Laserkraftwerk and the Dieselkraftwerk, which, in the series he originates from, were heavy weapons the Ubersoldaten carried.
  • Dual Wielding: His ability allows him to dual-wield the Dieselkraftwerk and Laserkraftwerk.
  • Mythology Gag: His appearance combines his original sprites from Wolfenstein 3D with his "Terror-Billy" outfit from Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.

    Freeman

Gordon Freeman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn22.png
Game of origin: Half-Life series
Active ability: Antigravity Discharge - Creates a 360-degree shockwave that reflects projectiles and, in PvE, pushes enemies away, dealing scratch damage when colliding into the environment or solid entities.
Passive abilities:
H.E.V. Suit - Grants immunity to environmental damage, i.e. damaging floors including Nukage and Lave (excludes hard-coded death pits and the void). Picking Lightning Gun Coils grants armour.
Extraction - Upon taking lethal damage, Freeman will instead be teleported to a random spawn location in the map (in PvE, this equates to the map's starting location) with 25 HP. Can only be used once per life (PvP) or level (PvE) and has an internal 60-second cooldown.
Voiced By: Mike Shapiro (Archival Audio - Half-Life 2)

  • Badass Normal: Relies on his H.E.V. Suit, a damaged Gravity Gun and the G-Man's assistance, but is still otherwise the same Theoretical Physicist and Right Man in the Wrong Place.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness:
    • Initially, "Antigravity Discharge" could knock back enemy players in PvP. This was removed due to the ease at which Freeman players could set up environmental kills by activating the ability next to death pits.
    • Originally a part of his "H.E.V. Suit" passive, Freeman could subtract from his active ability's cooldown timer by picking up BFG10K Cells. This was removed when the ability's overall cooldown was drastically reduced to balance out the above changes.
  • Invisible to Normals: If at least one player is playing as Freeman in either PvP or PvE, the G-Man will spawn into the map and is only perceptible to those playing as Freeman.
  • Offscreen Teleportation: When playing as him, the G-Man can occasionally be seen teleporting in and around the map, either standing still or walking around and phasing through walls should he meet one.
  • Set a Mook to Kill a Mook: Freeman can achieve this with his Active ability, thanks to the way that Doom's monster infighting system works; if an enemy takes damage from being slammed to another enemy of a different class via Antigravity Discharge, it will register the damage taken as an attack by the enemy it slammed into, causing the two to devolve into infighting. Entire monster closets can be cleared out this way without triggering them since the ability's shockwave can penetrate through the level geometry.

    Painkiller

Daniel Garner

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn30.png
Game of origin: Painkiller series
Active ability: Black Tarot - Painkiller is presented with 3 tarot cards that increase either damage output (up input), damage resistance (left input) and movement speed (right input). Up to 3 cards can be selected, and the same card type can be chosen multiple times for stacking effects.
Passive abilities:
Painkiller Weapon - Replaces the Gauntlet with the Painkiller, which does more damage and has a ranged secondary fire.
Demon Morph - Painkiller can collect souls from fallen enemies, transforming into a demon upon collecting 66 souls in PvE or 6 souls in PvP. For its duration, the Demon Morph offers increased damage resistance and output but reduced movement speed.
Voiced By: George Exley (Character Taunts), Cam Clarke (Vocalisations, Archival Audio - Painkiller)

  • Adaptation Name Change: He is mostly referred to as "Painkiller" in-game as opposed to his true name "Daniel Garner". This was a conscious decision by the mod creator, DBThanatos, who considered his name to be "too mundane and not very recognisable".
  • Composite Character: His demonic visage brought on by "Demon Morph" utilises sprites of the "Nightmare" enemy from the Realm667 bestiary repository.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: While under the effects of "Demon Morph", Painkiller gains a unique set of taunts with a demonic reverb.

    Intruder

The Intruder (Dusk Dude)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn31.png
Game of origin: DUSK
Active ability: Wendigo's Curse - Grants invisibility when not dealing or taking damage. While invisible, The Intruder makes loud breathing noises, leaves blood trails and deals/receives less damage.
Passive abilities:
His Sparks - Killing enemies grants a temporary speed boost.
Treasure Hunter (PvE only) - Finding secret areas grants extra armour points.
Voiced By: Gianni Matragrano

  • Adaptation Name Change: Called "The Intruder" as opposed to "Dusk Dude", as he is referred to in supplementary material for his home game.
  • Composite Character: "Wendigo's Curse" sees him adopt characteristics of the namesake enemy from DUSK.
  • Expy Coexistence: He is based upon Caleb from Blood, and the two have the potential to meet each other in this mod.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Possesses a green pair of these in both his sprites and character portrait, mirroring those he has in DUSK's concluding splash screen.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: His Glowing Eyes of Doom and Voice of the Legion when using Wendigo's Curse make it obvious that this is the Intruder following DUSK's ending, where Nyarlathotep deems him worthy of his power.
  • Mythology Gag: His name comes from the very first line of dialogue in DUSK:
    "Kill the Intruder"
  • Pragmatic Adaptation: Is given an entirely new set of sprites made from scratch due to not having a character model, and his taunts are voice-acted due to his dialogue being restricted to jumping/pain grunts, death rattles and text popups in the original game.
  • Voice of the Legion: Has a unique set of taunts that possess this while "Wendigo's Curse" is in effect.

Light Champions

    Kane

Matthew Kane

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn04.png
Game of origin: Quake IV
Active ability: Stroyent Injection - Instantly heals 75 hit points and grants a massive speed boost for a few seconds. In PvE, it heals 100 hit points and can overstack.
Passive abilities:
Crouchslide - Crouching just after landing on the ground gives a speed boost.
Slidekick (PvE only) - Hitting enemies with a crouch slide lifts them in the air and immobilizes them for a few seconds. Damaging affected enemies causes them to drop armour shards.
Voiced By: Michael Gannon (Archival Audio - Quake IV)

  • Composite Character: The protagonist of Quake 4 in all but taunts and vocalisations, which utilise lines by the character Lieutenant Scott Voss from the same game.
  • You Don't Look Like You: Despite his abilities being primarily based on the perks acquired following his Stroggification into a Tactical Transfer, Kane's sprites and character portrait portray him in his pre-Stroggification SMC Marine appearance.

    Caleb

Caleb

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn05.png
Game of origin: Blood series
Active ability: Voodoo Doll - While active, Caleb will pull out a voodoo doll. Any attack on the doll that hits an enemy will return health to him, but missing will damage Caleb instead. Alt-fire sends out a wave of energy that damages all foes in front of him and through walls but ends the ability early.
Passive ability: Life Essence - Any enemy killed by Caleb drops a Life Essence pickup that heals a small amount of HP.
Voiced By: Stephan M. Weyte (Archival Audio - Blood)

  • Boring, but Practical: In PvE, Life Essence: almost every enemy will drop a Life Essence pickup, and their overstacking properties can allow Caleb to bolster his relatively small health stack with each kill.
  • Composite Character: While the ability to consume Life Essence hearts from fallen enemies to recover HP is a mechanic present in Blood, its activation on every kill makes it more akin to Strogg & Peeker's "Stroyent Cell" passive ability.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Caleb's Active Ability used to be Life Steal, which allowed him to steal health by damaging enemies while the ability was active. With v2.7, it was traded out for Voodoo Doll.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Possesses red ones in both his sprites and character portrait, as per his depictions in official media.
  • Heal Thyself: Both of his Active and Passive abilities are focused on keeping him alive through either Life Drain or enemies dropping health pickups.
  • Voodoo Doll: His active ability is using the Voodoo Doll from his source game.

    Menelkir

Menelkir

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn06.png
Game of origin: Hexen
Active ability: Dark Servant - Summons a Maulotaur from Heretic that attacks enemies. Will disappear after a set amount of time or if Menelkir himself is fragged.
Passive ability: Hex - Killed enemies drop hourglasses to reduce the active ability's cooldown. In PvE, enemies have a chance to drop them.
Voiced By: Tim Moore (Archival Audio - Hexen)

  • Boring, but Practical: Dark Servant. While the Maulotaur's AI isn't very bright, it makes up for it with its sweeping projectiles and by being large enough to block openings to passageways, making it ideal for crowd control, some extra firepower, or to make an escape and heal up.
  • Composite Character: He uses the default red colour palette of Daedolon (the Mage class in Hexen) rather than the blue version of said sprites that he uses in that game, and his taunts are pitched-up quotes of Korax, Hexen's main antagonist.
  • Mythology Gag: His "Dark Servant" active ability's effect is directly based on the item of the same name from Hexen.
  • Sidelined Protagonist Crossover: Heralds Hexen's Mage player class instead of Daedolon, despite utilising his sprites.

    Nyx

Nyx

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn12.png
Game of origin: Quake Champions
Active ability: Ghostwalk - Nyx temporarily turns invisible and intangible but is unable to attack. Can be used to Tele-Frag enemies.
Passive ability: Wall Jump - Nyx can perform a second big jump off a wall.
Voiced By: Fryda Wolff (Archival Audio - Quake Champions)

    Durandal

Durandal

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn15.png
Game of origin: Marathon series
Active ability: Simulacrums - Teleports a swarm of the eponymous B.O.B. decoys into the arena, which then charge towards enemies and detonate when near them.
Passive abilities:
Unified Vitality - When not at full health, armour pickups will refill Durandal's health before granting armour.
Infra-Chromatic Unveil - Durandal can see invisible enemies (i.e. Nyx using her Ghostwalk ability).
Voiced By: David M. Neyland

  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: A "rampant" A.I. controlling a battle cyborg, as one would expect of the resident rampant AI from the UESC Marathon.
  • Composite Character: Durandal utilises the same set of sprites as the Security Officer, the player protagonist of the Marathon series. Justified, since his backstory entry in the manual highlights how he had begun producing his own Mjolnir Cyborgs and uploading his consciousness into them.
  • Sidelined Protagonist Crossover: Heralds the Marathon series instead of the Security Officer/Mjolnir Recon #54.

    Lo Wang

Lo Wang

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn18.png
Game of origin: Shadow Warrior (1997)
Active ability: Nobitsura Kage - Performs a couple of short-ranged, but powerful slashes with the namesake katana.
Passive abilities:
Peacock's Blessing - If under 60 HP, pressing "right", "right" and holding "use" in quick succession will gradually heal Lo Wang up until that amount.
Tiger's Rage - Grants a 30% damage bonus when under 40 HP.
Voiced By: John William Galt (Archival Audio - Shadow Warrior)

  • Composite Character: Zig-zagged; QC:DE's Lo Wang borrows elements from both his 1997 classic and 2013 reboot incarnations, whose wildly differing characterisations mean that the two incarnations are more or less separate characters in their own right.
    • Specifically, his sprites and taunts are taken straight from the original 3D Realms title, while his abilities are more inspired by those seen in the Flying Wild Hog games.

    Eleena

Eleena

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn24.png
Game of origin: Eradicator
Active ability: Doppelgänger - Creates a holographic decoy to fool enemies. In PvE, enemies will always attack the decoy. Activating the ability again allows Eleena to switch her current location with that of the decoy, and vice-versa.
Passive abilities:
Training Weights - Grants a 20% speed bonus when having no armour
Acrobatic - Holding the "jump" key allows Eleena to jump higher while crouching in mid-air allows her to drop to the ground much faster.
Voiced By: Jennifer Hale (Archival Audio - Bulletstorm).

  • Composite Character: Utilises the sprites of her namesake from Eradicator, but with her taunts subsisting from quotes by the Bulletstorm character Trishka.

    Lucienne

Lucienne

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn25.png
Active ability: Cleansing Fire - Throws a fireball that heals herself and allies, and damages and debuffs enemies to temporarily increase damage received.
Passive abilities:
Immolation - Creates a powerful explosion upon death.
Blessing - Armour overstacks don't degenerate over time, heavy armour grants +100 overstack instead of +75.
Voiced By: Mary Kae Irvin (Archival Audio - Half-Life 2)

  • Composite Character: She has the appearance of a female Hunter from In Pursuit Of Greed, but her voice clips are taken from the female Citizens/Refugees/Rebels in Half-Life 2.
  • Good is Not Nice: According to her backstory in the manual, Lucienne is a celestial being. Not that it prevents her from slaughtering her foes and trash-talking them while doing it.
  • Heal Thyself: If taking it from a reflection or shot upon an ally, Lucienne's "Cleansing Fire" fireballs will heal both herself and her allies.
  • Last of Her Kind: The last of a now-extinct race of magic-wielding beings, the rest having been slaughtered by Vor Matur.
  • Shout-Out: Her bio in the manual has several lines from Ronnie James Dio's "Holy Diver".

    Hunter

Hunter

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn27.png
Game of origin: Quake III: Arena
Active ability: Voodoo Guardian - Summons a skull that moves along with Hunter firing at enemies. Enemies struck by the totem's projectiles in PvP leave a visible trail in their wake.
Passive abilities:
Sixth Sense (PvP only) - Enemies in the crosshair will temporarily leave a trail to track their movement.
Spoils of the Hunt - Killing an enemy increases either max health, max armour, or max ammo capacity for any weapon until death or the end of the level.
Voiced By: Karen Strassman (Archival Audio - Mortal Kombat X)

  • Boring, but Practical: Hunter in PvE:
    • Voodoo Guardian provides her with what is effectively a highly accurate sentry turret on her person, increasing her damage output and alerting players to potential ambushes from the rear.
    • If a particular map has a high enemy count (particularly Slaughtermaps), Spoils of the Hunt allows her to increase her Health/Armour pool to heavyweight champion levels and carry a boatload of ammo to boot, making up for her relatively small starting pool of health and armour.
  • Composite Character: Her sprite is directly based on her Quake 3: Arena model, but her character taunts are supplemented by Kitana's dialogue from Mortal Kombat X.

    Postal

The Postal Dude

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn29.png
Game of origin: Postal
Active ability: Diseased Cow Head - Throws a cow head from which a poisonous cloud emanates. Enemies passing through the cloud will become contaminated and take damage every couple of seconds, the duration of which increases the longer an enemy lingers within the cloud. In PvP, the contamination effect disregards armour and deals true damage to health.
Passive abilities:
Cracked Lungs - Overstacks gained from Mega health items don't degenerate for 40 seconds. If another Mega health isn't collected in that time, any remaining overstack will quickly dissipate over time. If the Postal Dude has no overstack left when withdrawal kicks in, he takes 25 HP damage.
Crouchjump - Jumping while crouching results in a higher jump.
Voiced By: Rick Hunter (Archival Audio - Postal 2)

  • Badass Normal: Besides a unique reaction to Mega Health pickups due to his crack addiction, the Dude is otherwise still a psychotic trailer-trash deadbeat fighting on equal terms with seasoned warriors and divine entities.
  • Cool Shades: Wears a pair of these, consistent with all of his depictions in his series so far.
  • Lethal Joke Weapon: Postal Dude has a rotting cow head, which is just as lethal as Doomguy's BFG, Zedek's magic sword, Duke's Freezethrower, Lo Wang's Nobitsura Kage, B.J.'s Dieselkraftwerk and Laserkraftwerk and Serious Sam's Serious Minigun.
  • Mythology Gag: "Cracked Lungs" effectively reworks the Mega Health and Overcharge items into the Health Pipe items from the Postal Dude's home series.

Heavy Champions

    Terminator

Terminator

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn07.png
Active ability: Barrage - Unleashes a powerful salvo of homing missiles.
Passive ability: Ammo Regeneration - Ammo for the currently equipped weapon will slowly regenerate over time. In PvE Co-Op Multiplayer and team-based PvP, excess ammo is dropped as pickups for allies to collect.
Voiced By: Andrey Baranov (Archival Audio - Quake Champions)

  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: A two-and-a-half-meter-tall Russian automaton commissioned by the UAC as the Mars Facility's primary defensive system, which activated on its own following the demonic invasion of Mars and following in the Doom Slayer's footsteps by going on its own single-minded rampage.
  • Boring, but Practical: Ammo Regeneration works slowly, and only works for the weapon he's holding, but also makes it easier to reload more powerful weapons to fall back on when ammo for it isn't easily available.
  • Composite Character: Utilises Visor's taunts and vocalisations from Quake Champions, but his sprites are that of the "Terminator" enemy from the Realm667 bestiary repository.
  • Expy: Downplayed. Terminator shares QC!Visor's quotes and elements of his backstory (both being creations of the Russian government), but has a completely different set of abilities and weight class (Visor being a medium champion while Terminator is heavy).
  • Obvious Rule Patch: While Ammo Regeneration is already a gradual process, it is considerably more sluggish when Terminator is wielding the BFG10K, so as to mitigate excessive spam of the superweapon.

    Zedek

Zedek

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn08.png
Game of origin: Hexen
Active ability: Quietus - Launches several fireballs from his sword. These fireballs create damaging flames on impact with an entity or the environment, which then linger for a time.
Passive abilities:
Cannonball - Falling from up a certain height will create a powerful area-of-effect damage shockwave upon landing.
Iron Feet (PvE only) - Grants immunity to damaging floors.
Voiced By: DBThanatos

    Inquisitor

Inquisitor

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn09.png
Game of origin: Strife
Active ability: Protective Shield - Halves any damage taken while it is active. Activating it again creates a barrier shield that can be used by allies as cover, but prevents Inquisitor from attacking.
Passive abilities:
Still Defense - Reduces damage taken by 10% when not moving.
Thrust Dodge - While in mid-air, double-tapping a direction key will boost Inquisitor in that direction.
Voiced By: Dan Donohue (Archival Audio - Quake Champions)

    Sorgaul

Sorgaul

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn13.png
Active ability: Primal Rage - While active, grants Regenerating Health, a considerable movement speed boost and replaces all weapons with Sorgaul's claws. Primary fire swipes and secondary fire performs a lunge attack.
Passive ability: Armour Hoarder - Light and heavy armour pickups grant additional armour points.
Voiced By: Alex Désert (Archival Audio - Quake Champions)

  • Composite Character: Is Sorlag in all but active ability and sprites; Sorgaul ditches Sorlag's "Acid Spit" in favour of a more complex take on QC!Doom Slayer's "Berserk" active ability and her sprites are borrowed from Kamchak, one of the playable characters from Eradicator.
  • Expy: She's Sorlag with a different suite of abilities, with her active ability "Primal Rage" most notably being a variation on the Quake Champions Doom Slayer's "Berserk" active ability.
  • History Repeats: Took over as leader of the Sorg tribe following Sorlag's disappearance, only to wind up falling to the same Oruk tribe and being trapped in the Arena Eternal as her predecessor.

    Bitterman

Bitterman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn10.png
Game of origin: Quake II
Active ability: Power Shield - Refills armour upon activation, up to 200 AP. In PvE Co-Op Multiplayer and team-based PvP, excess armour is dropped as pickups for allies to collect.
Passive abilities:
Bandolier - Increased ammo capacity for all weapons
Stabilized Homeostasis - Health and armour overstacks degenerate very slowly.
Voiced By: (Archival Audio - Quake 4)

  • Badass Normal: In spite of the experiments conducted upon him by the Strogg, his bandolier and Power Shield are fairly pedestrian compared to other champ abilities.
  • Composite Character: In Quake II Bitterman is a First-Person Ghost who gets a proper appearance in Quake III: Arena, with Grunt (the default multiplayer character in II) also being present in III Arena. QCDE combines both Bitterman and Grunt into a single character.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Was originally in the Medium weight class until v2.5 introduced Painkiller as another Medium champion, which saw Bitterman become a Heavy champion to even out the roster's weight classes.

    Keel

Lance Corporal Ben Keel

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn16.png
Game of origin: Quake III: Arena
Active ability: Grenade Swarm - Fires up to 5 grenades from Keel's shoulder-mounted grenade launchers.
Passive ability: Stockpile - Ammo pickups reduce the active ability's cooldown time.
Voiced By: Alex Désert (Archival Audio - Quake Champions)

  • Composite Character: Is vanilla Quake Champions' Keel in all but appearance, borrowing the sprite sheet of the "Big Robot" enemy from the vehicle-based shooter Necrodome by Raven Software.

    Eradicator

Eradicator

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn20.png
Active ability: Scanner - An Enemy-Detecting Radar is temporarily displayed to the HUD, revealing the location of enemies, powerups and in PvE, weapons.
Passive abilities:
Murderface - Killing a set amount of enemies grant stacking damage buffs, up to a 70% increase.
Inductive Healing - Collecting Health pickups also grants armour points.
Voiced By: Andrew Kishino (Archival Audio - Bulletstorm)

  • Composite Character: Eradicator is quite a hodgepodge of a Champion; his sprites are borrowed from Dan Blaze, one of the playable characters from the ''Doom'' clone of Eradicator's namesake, his voice lines are that of the cyborg character Ishi Sato from Bulletstorm, and he uses an original set of abilities completely unrelated to either game.

    Major

"Major" Susan Wayland

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn26.png
Game of origin: Quake III: Arena
Active ability: Airstrike - Major marks up to four markers, upon which a payload of bombs will strike.
Passive abilities:
Wall Climb - Holding "jump" without pressing any other key and while facing a wall starts a brief wall climb.
Tall, Lean and Mean - Major has a slimmer hitbox than any other heavy champion and can walk over higher steps and obstacles (waist high) without needing to jump.
Voiced By: Sirena Irwin (Archival Audio - Unreal Tournament III)

  • Composite Character: Directly based on her Quake 3: Arena appearance, but utilises voicelines of UT3's Lauren for her taunts.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Her real name is Susan Wayland, although you'd never find this out if you didn't read the manual or watch her reveal trailer.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: According to her backstory in the manual.

    Vor Matur

Vor Matur

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lbourn23.png
Active ability: Horror - Fires a projectile that blinds players in PvP, and makes enemies flee in PvE.
Passive abilities:
Excess Matter - Grants a massive health pool of 300HP at the cost of lacking an armour pool. Also takes reduced knockback from attacks, has reduced blast jump height and, in PvE, reduces all damage taken by 20%.
Corrosive Blood - Blood spilled when taking damage deals damage to enemies.
Voiced By: George Exley

  • Alien Blood: To differentiate his damaging blood from the innocuous blood of other champions, Vor Matur's blood is purple.
  • Ascended Extra: Zig-Zagged. While Vor Matur as a Champion is unique to QCDE, his sprites are sourced from the RotoDroid enemies from Eradicator.
  • Arch-Enemy: To Lucienne; her in-game bio asserts that Vor Matur is the one responsible for slaughtering the rest of her kind.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: His Excess Matter passive gives him the biggest pool of health in the game, but also leaves him nearly incapable of collecting armour; he must grab as many health pickups as he can after a gruelling fight, which is a major weakness on maps with scarce health pickups. The manual even advises against playing him on maps with a low number of health pickups for this reason.
  • Eldritch Abomination:
    • Himself.
    • Azathoth is also mentioned in his bio.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: He spawns with a whopping stack of 225 HP out of a maximum of 300 HP on spawn which doesn't degenerate over time, completely unlike any other Heavy champions who generally start with 125, 150 or 175 points. The drawback is that he's almost incapable of collecting armour; his armour stack is set to 0, and any armour overstack collected will degenerate quicker than other champions.

    Serious Sam

Sam "Serious" Stone

Game of origin: Serious Sam
Active ability: Serious Minigun - Gives access to the iconic XM214-A Minigun, a fully automatic weapon with massive DPS. Hourglasses grant ammo for it, instead of reducing its cooldown.
Passive abilities:
Seriously Loaded - Sam starts with all three starting weapons (Machinegun, Shotgun and Nailgun) instead of having to select one from the options menu.
Complementary Ammo - Light and heavy armour pickups also grant ammo for the currently selected weapon.
Voiced By: John J. Dick (Archival Audio - Serious Sam 3: BFE)

  • Badass Normal: He spawns with the three selectable starting weapons (Machine Gun, Shotgun and Nailgun) and has another weapon in his arsenal in the form of the Serious Minigun. Other than that? He's about as standard as they come.
  • BFG: The Serious Minigun, which is the beefiest of all machine guns in the game.
  • Crazy-Prepared: On top of being able to access all three starter weapons, he also has a Minigun as his ability.
  • Cool Shades: Wears his cool orange-lensed military shades from Serious Sam 3: BFE.
  • More Dakka: Basically what all of Serious Sam's abilities revolve around.
