The Rangers
Aaron Hong
"We were both young and stupid. Yes, we made mistakes, but we’ve learned from them! And by now we should know better than to keep dwelling on the past like that, don’t you think?"
The Red Ranger, the son of a local racing celebrity.
- Adaptation Personality Change: Although Aaron still maintains Sosuke's "fiery" essence, he's marginally more mature… unless Raph is present.
- Berserk Button: Raph’s mere presence in his life is one at first, setting him off and making him lose his maturity.
- In-Series Nickname: Everyone in the city knows him as "Hotshot Hong".
- Momma's Boy: Very close to his mother Phoebe.
- Noble Bird of Prey: Pilots the Condor Racer.
- Official Couple: With Victoria. Unique in that they have reached this status BEFORE the main story.
- Working with the Ex: This turns out to be part of his issues with Raph, along with her Spoiled Brat tendencies
Felix Kinsey
"Okay, at this point, the Machine Empire aren’t even trying to hide that they’re responsible for this. Anyone with half a brain knows modern structures like that tower take at least twenty years to corrode! It doesn’t happen overnight like that!"
The Blue Ranger, and the brains of the team.
- Adaptation Personality Change: In contrast with the more subdued and amiable Renn, Felix comes across as a bit of a grouch.
- Birds of a Feather: He and Ola butt heads at first, but turn out to get along like a house on fire when it comes to drawing up ideas for new tech.
- Deadpan Snarker
- Genius Bruiser
- Hair-Trigger Temper
- King of Beasts: Pilots the Lion Hauler.
- Like an Old Married Couple: His relationship with Ola, most prominently seen in "Ingenious Minds".
- More Dakka: Wields the Turbo Cannon.
- '90s Hair: Thanks to his long-ish hair and floppy bangs, which has been referred to as "Boy Band hair", he's been compared to the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Owen. The author has even drawn him in the infamous "Junkie's Baddy Powder" crop top worn by Owen in the video for "Relight My Fire".
- The Paranoiac: Constantly worried about when the next Machine Empire attack will take place.
- Screams Like a Little Girl: He lets out a high priced shriek when Ola looks at his designs for the Road Attack Zord in "Ingenious Minds".
- The Smart Guy: The one in charge of fixing up and upgrading the Eltarian tech the Rangers use, to the point that he's figuring out how to reverse-engineer some of it to create his own original Zord.
- Smart People Wear Glasses
- Team Chef: Occasionally seen cooking for his teammates.
- Vitriolic Best Buds: Has this dynamic with Aaron.
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Is afraid of the ocean, due to having almost drowned as a child in an attempt to retrieve his favorite toy after it was taken away by the tide.
Mercedes “Sadie” Berenger
"We may be intent on stopping the Machine Empire, but we should also take some time to breathe and live our lives every once in a while. Focusing too much on our mission at hand could end up frying our brains and wearing out our bodies."
The Yellow Ranger, the daughter of an influential real-estate tycoon family.
- Abusive Parents: Hoo boy. When Sadie holds a fundraiser to save the sweat bees, they arrange for that same habitat to be destroyed.
- Badass Adorable
- Bears Are Bad News: Pilots the Bear Crawler.
- Beware the Nice Ones: Sadie rarely gets angry. But when she does, it’s terrifying.
- Calling the Old Man Out: Towards her mother in “The Buzz on Sadie”.
- Embarrassing First Name: Sadie turns out to be short for “Mercedes”.Ola: Like the car?Aaron: I know, right? I actually had the same reaction when we first met all those years ago. Major geek-out moment, right there.
- Fiery Redhead: In contrast to the large amount of blonde Yellows since 2006. It's downplayed in that she isn't particularly fiery most of the time (see Beware the Nice Ones).
- Friend to All Living Things
- Granola Girl: Sadie is very passionate about her environmentalism to the point of almost literally being a Soapbox Sadie.
- Improbable Weapon User: The Zip Charger seems to be a pull-back car.
- Lonely Rich Kid: "Caught on Camera" reveals that Aaron and Felix were the only real friends she's had growing up.
- Nice Girl: The only one of the main trio who doesn’t fully dislike the Darcys.
- Steven Ulysses Perhero: Her last name basically sounds like like "bear Ranger".
- Tomboy and Girly Girl: The girly girl to Ola’s Tomboy with a Girly Streak.
Ola Irwin
"We just went through a whole Megazord battle... without a single embarrassing pun. It’s a freaking miracle!"
The Green Ranger, a newcomer to Copper Falls.
- Adaptation Personality Change: While Hant is a "hardworker" Keet In Touch with His Feminine Side, Ola is a more laid-back Tomboy with a Girly Streak.
- Affirmative Action Girl
- Audience Surrogate: Ola is introduced to the Rangers’ battle in the first chapter, along with the reader.
- Black and Nerdy: Much like her uncle Damon, she's black and mechanically knowledgeable.
- Birds of a Feather: She and Felix have their fair share of friction at first, but eventually hit it off due to their shared interest in mechanical design.
- Disappeared Dad: Ola’s dad is divorced from her mother and lives in Ocean Bluff.
- Deadpan Snarker: As much as Felix.
- Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: "One Step Ahead" has her do this to Ricky to help him snap out of a panic attack.
- Heroic Bystander: Prior to becoming a Ranger. In fact, it’s what got her the gig.
- I Just Want to Be Normal: Part of the reason as to why she and her mother moved away to Copper Falls was to escape the constant monster attacks in their former hometown of Ocean Bluff. This doesn't last long, though.
- Improbable Weapon User: "Ingenious Minds" also sees her attack a Machine Empire bot with a wrecking ball.
- Meaningful Name: Shares her surname with marine explorer Steve Irwin.
- Related in the Adaptation: She's the niece of Damon Henderson, the Green Ranger from Power Rangers Lost Galaxy. Their original Sentai counterparts were completely unrelated to each other.'
- Sapient Cetaceans: Drives the Tail Spinner.
- She's a Man in Japan: Takes the place of the male Hant.
- Sherlock Scan: Ola's main strength in battle is that she's a quick thinker, and and knows how to figure out an opponent's weakness on the go.
- Shut Up, Hannibal!: Pulls this on Lamina during "Zord Don't Slow Me Down".
- Tomboy and Girly Girl: The Tomboy with a Girly Streak to Sadie's Girly Girl.
- Tomboyish Ponytail: Her usual hairstyle.
- Wrench Wench: Skilled with machinery and mechanics.
Richard "Ricky" Sheppard
"I won’t stop until I’ve defeated you and rescued my friends! But if I do fall now... I want my family to know that I love them... And that I will be always there to protect them!"
The Black Ranger, and Ola's next-door neighbor, who joins at the same time as her.
- Adaptation Personality Change: His Sentai counterpart, Gunpei, is initially a much more serious type.
- Big Brother Instinct: Cares deeply for his sister Carly.
- The Big Guy
- Canis Major: Drives the Hound Cruiser.
- Cool Bike: When unmorphed, he tends to get around in one, which has a sidecar attached.
- Deadpan Snarker: Though not to the extent of Felix and Ola.
- Handguns: Wields the Rocket Blaster.
- Heroic Bystander: Same deal as Ola, but on the more protective side, as he shields Carly from Furnace Bot's toxic fumes.
- House Husband: His parents, a lawyer and a police officer, are always away from home doing their jobs, so he tends to be the one in charge of looking after the family apartment and tending to Carly.
- Meaningful Name: His surname “Sheppard” is specifically meant to bring to mind the German Shepherd breed of dog, which Hound Cruiser's counterpart Gunpherd was based off.
- Nervous Wreck: Prone to panicking under pressure, but is always able to calm down and do what he has to.
- Screams Like a Little Girl: Ola mistakes his screaming for that of a woman in "Zord Don't Slow Me Down".
- Team Mom
Gabriel “Gabe” and Seraphina “Raph” Darcy
Gabe: [The Power Rangers are] protectors of Copper Falls, just as much as we are. In fact, they’ve been doing this for longer, so they’re probably more experienced at this. It’s likely we could need their help sooner or later, and we may never get it if we don’t start acting at least a little more civil with them.
Raph: [scoffs] We spent nine whole days having intensive training in the South Pole, and you still have the gall to say this sort of thing? Gabe, we’ve been doing perfectly fine so far. If anyone’s going to need help at any point, it’ll probably be them, simple-minded and land-bound as they are.
The Skylight Rangers. Children of the Mayor, and the last to join the group.
- Adaptational Early Appearance: The Darcys make their first appearance in "The Buzz on Sadie", whereas the Go-On Wings in Go-Onger appeared much later.
- Adaptation Personality Change: The duo's dynamic is flipped from the Wings, with Raph being the older sibling and the one to take the lead in battle. Gabe is also much less aloof in comparison to Hiroto.
- Bling of War: They're the counterparts to the Go-on Wings, so naturally, their costumes are metallic and extra shiny, to the point that, in "Worth in Gold", Raph uses her own helmet as a reflective surface to show Gabe the injuries on his face.
- Berserk Button: Merely talking about Aaron is this to Raph. Turns out that he voted for and supported another girl for Prom Queen in junior year, causing her to cut ties with him.
- Big Little Brother: Gabe is taller than his sister, but Raph is one year older than him.
- Big Sister Instinct: Raph acts protective of Gabe, due to him having almost died as a baby due to a premature birth.
- British Stuffiness: Their family comes from Blackpool, England, and Raph is very haughty—but only towards Aaron.
- Closer to Earth: Gabe is a lot more approachable than his sister.
- Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Eventually prove to be this, even with Raph's initial behavior.
- Hidden Depths: "Radio Jam" reveals that they actually mean well to the people of Copper Falls, as they're aware of their status as children of the city's main authority figure, and genuinely want to protect and be role models to the citizens.
- I Always Wanted to Say That: A variant, in "Radio Jam".Gabe: [about to kick down a door] Can I? I-I’ve always wanted to do this, like they do in the movies.Raph: [tsks and pushes him to the side] You know I’m the one who does the kicking here, Gabe.
- Jerkass to One: Raph has it in for Aaron, as the after effects of a messy break up.
- Panthera Awesome: Raph pilots the Tiger Jet.
- Precision F-Strike: Raph says “sodding” (a very rude word in the United Kingdom) during her Freak Out in "The Ex-Factor"’s flashbacks.
- Rummage Sale Reject: According to Carly, they "dress weird", and Raph does not take well to hearing this.
- Rule of Cool: The reason Raph’s Zord is a flying tiger.
- Sibling Yin-Yang: Gabe is a friendly individual, but lacks a backbone. Raph on the other hand is very outgoing, but can come across as very haughty to everyone she meets.
- Sixth Ranger: They join the RPM team in their battle after 10 chapters.
- Swiss-Army Weapon: Their Cloud Hatchets can use fire and ice attacks, in addition to turning into the handles of their SkyShift Blazers.
Allies
Marshal
The Rangers’ support robot, who provided them with their powers, straight from Eltar.- Big Good: Only by being the benefactor for the Rangers. The actual Greater-Scope Paragon has long since died, leaving Marshal as the one in charge.
Phoebe Hong
Aaron’s mother, a local celebrity and racing star.- Good Luck Charm: Her lucky bomber jacket, which she hands to Aaron before he goes off to battle after getting his mojo back.
- Good Parents: In "Wind Beneath My Wings", when Aaron is in a funk following Condor Racer being rusted, she shows up to provide him with advice.
Victoria Rubro
Aaron’s girlfriend, who works at the Pitstop Malt Shop.
- Action Dress Rip: In the second part of "Surpassing Brilliance", before fighting off a few Grinders.
- Damsel out of Distress: She's kidnapped by Brilliax at the end of the first part of "Surpassing Brilliance", but manages to escape during the second part.
- Happiness in Minimum Wage: She doesn't seem to mind working as a waitress.
- Locked Out of the Loop: Currently unaware of her boyfriend’s association with the Power Rangers. At least until “Surpassing Brilliance”.
- Make-Out Kids: She and Aaron tend to be very touchy-feely with one another in public, which sometimes leads to awkward moments, such as Sadie walking in on them in "Gasp for Air".
- Official Couple: With Aaron.
- Second Episode Introduction: First appears in the third episode, "Zord Don't Slow Me Down".
Carly Sheppard
Ricky’s younger sister, whom he looks after.- Adorably Precocious Child
- Periphery Demographic: In-Universe, she turns out to be a fan of violent action films way above her age range.
- Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Takes the Hound Cruiser from Ricky’s bedroom, which causes some problems in "Zord Don't Slow Me Down".
Mayor Claire Darcy
The mayor of Copper Falls.
- I Am Very British: Played with. The Darcy family could be described as posh, but they speak in what's described as a "Lancashire accent" in Claire's first appearance.
- Locked Out of the Loop: When both of her children become Rangers and have to leave to train, they tell her they’re going to a cheer tournament… in Antarctica.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: Not only does she support the Rangers in their activities, but she shows up to help Sadie’s cause to save the bees and cancel her Abusive Parents' attempts to do otherwise.
The Machine Empire
As a whole
- The Remnant: Of the original Machine Empire.
General Shifter
- Dragon-in-Chief: The one most dedicated to the Earth invasion plan.
- Master Actor: Manages to fool everyone into thinking he has ordered Brilliax’s death (including Crunch) through a mixture of this and Enforced Method Acting.
- Surrounded by Idiots: His opinions of Crunch and Lamina, as cited in chapter 11.
General Crunch
- Co-Dragons: With General Shifter.
- More Teeth than the Osmond Family: Crunch has teeth moulded into his jaws.
- Vile Villain, Laughable Lackey: ReGeared is at its core, a Lighter and Softer work. While Crunch may be the sort of villain you’d expect from such a work, Shifter is not.
General Lamina
- Age Lift / Adaptation Personality Change: Contrary to Kegalesia, who was a grown woman and prone to playing up her sex appeal, Lamina appears to be closer to the Rangers' age range, and is more of a Spoiled Brat.
- Adaptational Modesty: Lamina’s signature outfit does away with her counterpart's Navel-Deep Neckline. However, her Minnie Volt disguise in "Radio Jam" makes up for it by giving her an "unusually fleshy" exposed midriff.
- Always Someone Better: Gets annoyed with Shifter always comparing her to Brilliax.
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Lamina may seem like The Load at times, but there are instances where she comes up with some very effective plans that almost pay off.
- Daddy's Little Villain: The daughter of High Lord Voltagium.
- Idol Singer: "Radio Jam" sees her adopting the alias of a popstar named Minnie Volt as part of Crunch's plan.
- Nepotism: The only reason she’s even on the Earth invasion force.
- Put on a Bus: She and Capacitor vanish around the same time Brilliax shows up.
- Spanner in the Works: Manages to ruin a good deal of plans due to her own indulgences being prioritised over the plans themselves.
- Unholy Matrimony: Becomes engaged to Prince Capacitor in "Wind Beneath My Wings".
Prince Capacitor
- Ascended Extra: His counterpart on Go-Onger, Prince Nigorl, was a one-episode Monster of the Week. Capacitor himself has a somewhat bigger role in the story.
- Adaptational Early Appearance: Consequently, his first appearance within the story happens much earlier than Nigorl's.
- Family Theme Naming: Follows the same pattern of being named after machine parts from his father and paternal uncle.
- Spin-Offspring: The son of Prince Gasket and Princess Archerina.
High Lady Pluvira
- Ascended Extra: Same deal as Capacitor.
- Doting Parent: Helps Lamina with planning her wedding, even loaning her a dress.
- Related in the Adaptation: Shower Banki didn't really have family ties to Yogoshimacritein or Kegalesia in the original, and was merely a Monster of the Week from Kegalesia's division.
Commander Brilliax
- Catchphrase: Has a penchant for referring to things, usually when they're going his way, as "brilliant".
- Deadly Upgrade: Overdoses himself on recharging gas to go One-Winged Angel, at the cost of his intelligence.
- Didn't Think This Through: For all his talk of destroying the Rangers, Brilliax constantly runs away before anything can really happen, because he finds the odds too overwhelming. Karma seemingly bites him in the butt when Shifter notices this and executes him, only for it to be revealed as a ruse in the next instalment.
- The Dragon: To Shifter.
- From Nobody to Nightmare: According to Shifter, he started as a low-level Monster of the Week level threat, known as Lightbulb Bot. Now, he’s a higher-up Officer in the Machine Empire.
- Insufferable Genius: Is very much this, more so when he goes One-Winged Angel.
- Irony: As Brilliax himself notes, despite his status as an Evil Genius, he’s quick to run away because he’s unable to compute new variables.
- Knight of Cerebus: Built up as a dangerous Villain of Another Story and lives up to it, giving the Rangers a tough fight which they barely escape.
- Villain of Another Story: Prior to his appearance, he was hunting the Sky Engine Zords.
High Lord Voltagium
- Big Bad: The mastermind behind the revived Machine Empire and the one planning to conquer Earth.
- The Ghost: Hasn’t had much impact on the story, besides founding the villains’ organization.
- Orcus on His Throne: Has had no truly direct involvement in the Earth invasion plan as of the current point in the story.
- Related in the Adaptation: He is made into Lamina’s father, when their Go-Onger counterparts were barely aware of each other’s existence until the final arc.
- Unrelated in the Adaptation: Conversely, he and Shifter do not seem to be father and son like Yogoshimacritein and Yogostein were.
