From left to right: Kidd, Holly and Tank
A trio of fourteen-year-olds who journey throughout the Hoenn region. They meet up in Littleroot Town and end up together after receiving their starters on the same day.

Tropes that fit two or more of the trio and their Pokémon:

  • Adaptation Personality Change: Holly is more hotheaded and impulsive (acting more like a sisterly/uchi villager than a lazy, foreshadowing her transition) while Tank is more calm and easygoing than most jock villagers.
  • An Immigrant's Tale: Holly and Kidd are foreigners from another region (Unova and Kalos, respectively), and the story follows them adjusting to the Hoenn region.
  • Ascended Extra: In Animal Crossing, they're only three out of hundreds of resident villagers. Here, they're the main characters.
  • Beauty, Brains, and Brawn: Gender-inverted. Kidd is the fashionista Beauty (focused on contests and his appearance), Tank is the reliable Brains (knowledgable about Hoenn culture/language, researches Pokémon for Professor Nook), and Holly is the hotheaded Brawn (first to go into Pokémon battling, a former delinquent, and most hellbent on fighting).
  • Berserk Button: The easiest way to piss off the trio?
    • Holly: Back in Castelia, bullying a girl guarantees a beatdown in the locker room.
    • Kidd: Suggesting body spray counts as a shower, or using 3-in-1 shampoo, will have him last out.
    • Tank: Comparing him to Team Cottage OR ignoring his phone calls. The Cottage one is justified, since they've murdered his close friend, the Fortree City Gym Leader.
  • Big Eater: All three of them, clearing off a croquette platter meant for twelve animals, and eating three bowls of ramen. Each. Justified since they're regularly active teenagers who need all the calories they can get.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: Tank is the Blonde (well, green with a slight yellow tint but is lighter than the other two's hair colors), Kidd is the Brunette and Holly is the Redhead.
  • Celeb Crush: While the trio are in a happy relationship with each other, they've all got crushes on Apollo.
  • Character Development: The trio go through this as the fic goes on:
    • Holly: Early chapters have her act more rude, pushy and unable to take a loss. Later chapters make her a Graceful Loser when her Pokémon faint in battle, and she gains a heroic streak (willing to interrupt her gym battle rematch just to save some wild Corphish and Crawdaunt). She later comes out as a girl in chapter 42.
    • Kidd: In the first few chapters, he's an aloof and prissy Neutral Male. Later chapters show his kindness, newfound confidence in both battling and contests, and willing to mess up his appearance when possible.
    • Tank: He's the most 'normal' of the group and a pushover for Nook. Later chapters show him as an equal to Tom Nook and embracing his eccentric side.
  • Deadpan Snarker: All three of the trio have their share of sarcasm and snark, though in the very beginning Kidd stands out before they all fit the trope equally.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Kidd has the Ground-type Swampert (which knows Rock Slide), Holly has the Rock-type Lairon (who knows Rock Slide and Stealth Rock), and Tank has the Rock-type Lileep (which knows Ancient Power).
  • Edible Theme Naming: Holly's deadname comes from eggs benedict (her current name references hollandaise sauce), Tank's last name Pepper comes from the plant, and Kidd's last name Chavignol references a a regional goat cheese.
  • Everyone Is Bi: All three of them are bisexual, and heavily implied to be crushing on each other. They later become a polycule.
  • Exposed to the Elements: Inverted. Hoenn is a subtropical region, yet Kidd's wearing a peacoat and scarf ensemble while Holly's wearing a thick hoodie. Justified since they're foreigners to Hoenn and aren't adjusted to the climate.
  • Flower Motifs:
    • Holly: Hollyhocks, which symbolize ambition. She picked her name after her favorite flower.
    • Tank: Camellias, fitting his Hoennian heritage and symbolizing adoration.
    • Kidd: Pansies, symbolizing love and admiration to represent his romantic side.
  • Freudian Trio: Holly is the passionate quick-to-fight Id, Kidd is the seemingly distant Superego, while Tank is the reliable Ego that keeps everyone in check.
  • Friend to All Children: The trio all show kindness to younger children. Holly lets her new fan club (a group of kindergartners) play with her Pokémon, Tank comforts Leila (Kappn's daughter) when she ends up lost and chased down by a Poochyena, and Kidd is willing to lend an ear to Dolly when she's upset.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • Tank's passionate about astronomy.
    • Holly's a fanfiction writer, a member of a literature club, has crossdressed before she came out as a girl, and was a former Poké Scout (until her dad stopped paying for her membership).
    • Kidd has skills in cosmetology and taught himself how to braid others' hair.
  • Making a Splash: All three trainers all have Water-types with water moves (Aquarius the Swampert, Asuka the Gyarados and Victoria the Lombre).
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Holly is the aggressive battle-lover of her group, while Kidd is a sensitive style-conscious coordinator and Tank is a polite researcher whose a peacekeeper with wild Pokémon.
  • New Transfer Student: Holly and Kidd are new to the Hoenn region (coming from Unova and Kalos, respectively).
  • Otaku: All three of the trio:
    • Holly names her Pokémon after manga characters, Tank buys several copies of manga for himself (he's also a huge fan of the series Crossing Rider Go), and Kidd reads doujinshi several times in the series.
  • Power Trio: Three main characters who travel together through the Hoenn region.
  • Rape as Backstory: A year before the story began, the trio met each other in an online support group, implied to be a sexual assault focused group.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Kidd is the Sensitive (style-conscious, performance-based goal, initially stays out of conflict), while Tank is the Manly (researching-based goal, more impulsive in early chapters).
  • Signature Mon: The Treecko line for Tank, Torchic line for Holly and Mudkip line for Kidd.
  • Town Girls: Gender-inverted. Kidd (a coordinator) is the stylish 'femme' Uptown, Holly (a gym challenger) is the hotheaded 'butch' Out of Town, and Tank is the reliable 'boy next door' Downtown.
  • Transformation Trinket: All three of the main characters have their Key Stones attached to their outfits: Tank's is a Mega Bracelet, Kidd has his Key Stone in his scarf, and Holly wears hers on a wallet chain, later being placed on her hairpin.
  • Whole Costume Reference: For all three:
    • Tank's main outfit is based on a mix of outfits worn by ORAS!Brendan (crop top and short-sleeved open shirt from both regular outfit and Contest outfit) and Goh (baggy joggers, exposed socks and slip-on sneakers).
    • Holly's first outfit is directly based on RSE!Brendan's (right down to the shoes).
    • Kidd's outfit is based on a combination of trainer customization outfits both Calem and Serena wear, along with a large white scarf like Platinum!Dawn.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: In one chapter, the trio crossdress to enter a talent show (before Holly came out as a girl), and nobody in story has a problem with said crossdressing.

     Holly and her Pokémon

Holly Sussex (née Benedict)

One of the three main protagonists. She's originally from Castelia City in the Unova region, but has Hoennian and Galarian heritage.

  • Accent Slip-Up: Holly usually speaks in a thick Southern American accent, but at her most hotheaded, she'll slip into a Cockney accent.
  • Adaptational Gender Identity: In the original Animal Crossing, Benedict is male. Here, Holly is a transgender girl.
  • Attractive Bent-Gender: Before properly coming out, she disguises herself as a sukeban girl in one chapter, and Scoot finds the tough girl act cute to the point that he gives her his phone number.
  • Barbarian Longhair: Before coming out, she wore her hair like this. Appropriately enough, she's the Brawn of her trio.
  • Brooklyn Rage: A Fantasy Counterpart Culture variant. She's from Castelia City and is the most battle-loving hothead of the trio.
  • Blood Knight: She lives for battling with her Pokémon, and is the most violent of the trio.
  • Bully Hunter: Back in Castelia City, she beat up another classmate for picking on one of the girls.
  • But Not Too Foreign: She's Hoennian on her mom's side and Galarian on her dad's side. Due to being born and raised in Castelia City, however, she considers herself Unovan.
  • Character Tics: Pre-transition, she undoes her ponytail before taking on Pokémon battles.
  • Cocky Rooster: Gender-inverted. She's a hen who acts overly confident, and her starter is a battle loving Blaziken.
  • Determinator: If she sets her mind on something, she'll leap right into action, whether it's wrangling a shiny Magikarp or taking on a gym battle. The only time she isn't this is when she's critically injured.
    • All of her Pokémon share her hot blooded determination in battle.
  • Disappeared Dad: Her dad Mornay is gone from her life, and is later revealed to be a complete deadbeat and suggested to be abusive. She has a low opinion of him due to this.
  • Distinguishing Mark: One chapter notes that she has a five-point star birthmark on her left shoulder.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Being a bird, she's uncomfortable with eating eggs in general to the point of giving them to Tank. Downplayed in that she does enjoy okonomiyaki (which has egg in the batter) and she starts enjoying Rustboro-style curry, which has a baked egg in the middle (dipping the egg in roux beforehand).
  • Dragon Tamer: She has the draconic Gyarados on her team, along with the Dragon-type Altaria in her party. She's also flown around on a Latias.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: After coming out as a girl, she ditches the ponytail and starts wearing her hair in two low pigtails.
  • Fiery Redhead: She's a redhead, and a hotheaded Pokémon trainer at that. Back in Unova she had a short temper and got violent with students and teachers alike, but in the present day she's less likely to pick fights (unless she's challenging someone to a Pokémon battle).
  • Flower Motifs: Hollyhocks (symbolizing ambition). She's ambitious and determined about taking on the Pokémon League and eventually Champion Apollo. Appropriately enough, her chosen name is Holly, after said flower.
  • Flowers of Femininity: After coming out as a girl, she starts wearing a large flower in her hair. The flower is revealed to be the same one she bought back in Dewford Town.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Part of her transition includes wearing her hair in two low pigtails to symbolize her energetic and free-spirited nature.
  • Graceful Loser: It's part of her Character Development. In chapter 35, after losing a battle against Butch, she takes the loss well and realizes she can just train at the Pokémon Center before challenging Butch for a rematch.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: Holly's the main protagonist, and one of her Pokémon is the electric-type canine Manectric.
  • Horse of a Different Color: Holly's seen riding several of her Pokémon at different points through the story: her Gyarados when in water, Manectric in a tower and Lairon in a tunnel.
  • Important Hair Accessory: In Dewford Town, she bought a large purple flower-shaped hairclip. After she comes out in Fortree City, she starts wearing the flower in her hair and clips her Key Stone to the center.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: Holly's a 14-year-old girl whose closest friendship (that isn't her boyfriends) is with the 21-year-old Frank. The two of them are close enough that Frank gifts her a switchblade.
  • In the Name of the Moon: During one of her gym battles, she shouts "In the name of the Hoenn region....Makoto, USE MOONBLAST!"
  • It Was a Gift: One of Holly's most noted possessions is the switchblade that Frank gifted her. In her words, "I gotta put it to good use!"
  • Japanese Delinquents: Holly's half-Hoennian and frequently got violent with her classmates and teachers back in Castelia City. Pre-transition, she crossdresses as a sukeban girl in one chapter, and later reveals that she's been suspended from school five times. In Hoenn she mellows out and becomes a heroic League challenger.
  • Large Ham: Holly tends to go over the top in her gym battles, shouting lines such as "Say hello to Asuka! Twen’y one feet of pure power!"
  • Like Father, Like Son: It's implied her father has the same hotblooded spirit as her. Zigzagged. It's revealed Mornay is a deadbeat, while Holly is loyal to her friends-turned-partners.
  • Magical Accessory: Her Key Stone is attached to her flower hairclip, allowing her to Mega Evolve her Pokémon.
  • Non-Elemental: Doesn't specialize in any type, but it is important to note that when everyone on her team is fully evolved, they're capable of Mega Evolution.
  • The Nicknamer: Aside from the names she gives her Pokémon, Holly gives several trainers nicknames (including "Jude" for Judy).
  • One of the Girls: Pre-transition. Back when she lived in Castelia City, all of her friends were girls, and it's implied she didn't have any male friends before meeting Tank and Kidd.
  • One of the Guys: After her transition, she ends up as this. She's the one girl in her Hoennian friend group (Tank, Kidd, Frank and Apollo).
  • Only One Who Likes Spam: While Tank and Kidd find natto disgusting and refuse to eat it, Holly thinks it's pretty good and finishes it off.
  • Outside-the-Box Tactic: With her quick thinking, she can make even Splash a useful move in battle. Even outside of battle, she's prone to coming up with ideas on the fly (using an Escape Rope to help climb up a steep cliff).
  • Playing with Fire: Her starter is the Fire-type Torchic, while her Manectric knows Fire Fang (which later upgrades to Flamethrower). She's also associated frequently with fire (bright red hair that can resemble flames, is interested in making a molotov cocktail, and is joked about being a pyromaniac).
  • Practically Different Generations: One chapter reveals that she has two older half-siblings, one of them being the 31-year-old Blathers. This is because her dad Mornay had another family before leaving his first wife for Tamoko.
  • Purple Is Powerful: She often wears purple clothing (including a large flower in her hair) and is a competent trainer who wields Mega Evolution.
  • Red Baron: In gym matches, she's known as "Hollyhock Sussex of Castelia City", but she's also referred to as "the Red Gyarados trainer" and "Lady Castelia".
  • Red Is Heroic: She has red hair and feathers, and is the main protagonist of the story who does heroic acts like risking her life and Gym Battle to save some wild Corphish.
  • Sobriquet Sex Switch: Averted. Holly's deadname is Benedict.
  • Shaking Her Hair Loose: One of her character tics. She does this when at her most hotheaded (i.e. chasing after wild Pokémon or taking on a tough gym battle).
  • Stock Shōnen Hero: Gender-inverted. She's a Hot-Blooded battle-loving trainer associated with fire and the color red, is very impulsive when it comes to fighting, has an outgoing personality that leads her to making multiple friends, and eats a LOT. However, she's not oblivious to love (gets two romantic partners) and is only bad at school due to her delinquency.
  • Species Surname: Downplayed. Sussex is a British breed of chicken (fitting Holly's Galarian heritage).
  • Sweet Tooth: Has this when it comes to drinks, ordering a sugary cappuccino with flavor shots. She also adds sweet potatoes to her curry to dilute both the spicy roux and baked egg.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: While not stated to have a favorite food, Holly's quite fond of sweet potatoes and eats them when given the chance:
    • She adds sweet potatoes to her curry to dilute the spicy taste and baked egg.
    • During the Lilycove arc, she gets several helpings of sweet potatoes as a side.
    • As for her Pokémon? Coffret's obsessed with eating fries, and throws a fit when Holly gets zucchini fries instead of potato fries.
  • Trans Tribulations: Downplayed. Most of her problems are internal (nervous about going to an onsen due to the nudity, occasionally looking away from mirrors, recurring dreams that she tries to ignore), but go away once she properly comes out. She wanted to come out in Littleroot Town but was focused on her journey instead.
  • Wife-Basher Basher: Back in Castelia City, she beat up a classmate for making fun of a girl for getting her period in class.
  • Wild Hair: Her hair is long and shaggy, fitting her battle-happy nature. Even when tied into two pigtails it's large and shaggy.

Holly's Pokémon

Her current team: Blaziken, Gardevoir, Gyarados, Lairon, Manectric and Altaria

  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Jojo the Blaziken is a brawny Fighting-type with moves like Low Sweep at his disposal.
  • Badass Adorable: Coffret, a cute fluffy Swablu, is just as strong as his bigger and more powerful teammates. Even after evolving into Altaria, he's still an adorable fluff ball.
  • Badass Crew: All six of the crew are badasses in Gym battles i.e. a Blaziken that can kick through an indestructible net, a Gardevoir with lunar powers, a Manectric with intense electric powers, and a shiny Gyarados whose pure strength helps out in in a pinch.
  • Blow You Away: Asuka and Coffret are both Flying-types, but Coffret uses more Flying-type moves.
  • Extra-ore-dinary: Kenshiro the Lairon is part-Steel type and primarily uses moves like Iron Head.
  • Everything's Better with Sparkles: Asuka (her Magikarp, later a Gyarados) is shiny, and always sparkles when she's released from her ball.
  • Head Pet: Coffret the Swablu is very fond of sitting atop his trainer and pretending to be a hat. He can't do this anymore after evolving into Altaria.
  • Kamehame Hadoken: Several of Makoto's moves are energy blasts thrown from his hands, notably Moonblast.
  • Lunacy: Makoto's Moonblast attack is much stronger during nighttime.
  • Our Fairies Are Different: Makoto the Gardevoir is part Fairy-type and the most traditionally feminine of the group.
  • Sixth Ranger: Coffret the Swablu joins the team just before Petalburg City, and he's more eccentric than his teammates (loves eating fries, sits atop his trainer like a hat, is only motivated to train when food is a reward, and likes pecking wild Pokémon).
  • Shock and Awe: Frieza the Manectric is a pure Electric-type and uses moves like Volt Switch or Thunderbolt in combat.
  • Shout-Out Theme Naming: All six of the crew take their nicknames from Japanese media: Jojo, Makoto, Kenshiro, Frieza, Asuka, and Coffret.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: Asuka (a Gyarados, and the only female Pokémon on the crew) is much, much taller than the rest of the team (Jojo, Kenshiro, Makoto, Frieza and Coffret).
  • Uncatty Resemblance: Jojo and Holly both faintly resemble each other (bright red chickens, long head feathers).

     Tank and his Pokémon

Tank Pepper

Another one of the protagonists. He's the native Hoennian who resides in Littleroot Town, but is originally from Fortree City.

  • Adaptational Intelligence: Jock villagers aren't the brightest villagers in Animal Crossing. But here, Tank is the Smart Guy of his group and is knowledgable about Hoenn culture and Pokémon research.
  • Book Dumb: In a side chapter, it's revealed that Tank failed all of his entrance exams, making him unable to attend regular high school. This is because he had ADD and the school refused to accommodate his disability. However, he is not stupid, in fact he is even smarter than his friends.
  • Cast Herd: He catches a lot of Pokémon, most of which hang out at Professor Nook's lab.
  • Disabled in the Adaptation: He has attention deficient disorder. He emphasizes that he's not stupid, he just doesn't learn well in traditional schooling.
  • Eccentric Artist: Averted. While he's the artist of the group, he's almost the most sane of the group i.e. doesn't have any parental issues and had a relatively normal childhood.
  • Friend to All Living Things: He has an uncanny knack to befriend Pokémon without breaking a sweat.
  • Gentle Giant: Tallest of the trio, but the peacekeeper along with the leader. Unless you're Team Cottage.
  • Green Thumb: He's frequently associated with Grass-type Pokémon, his last name comes from 'pepper', his hair is compared to a leaf, and he names his Pokémon after types of plants.
  • Grew a Spine: Tank is usually an easygoing guy who goes along with whatever sounds best, but after Professor Nook lashes out at him for not catching one Pokémon? Tank stands up for himself and rips Nook a new one for his callous nature while proving him wrong. Chapter 35 has him and Nook reconcile.
  • Gotta Catch 'Em All: His main goal is to catch as many Pokémon as possible for Professor Nook's research. Until chapter 31, that is, when he quits after Nook pisses him off. He does take up research, but decided to forgo catching random Pokémon in favor of other forms of research i.e. photography or playing with wild Pokémon.
  • Heroic BSoD: In chapter twenty, he temporarily snaps into this after Dobie punches him in the face.
  • Hidden Depths: Aside from his talent in art, he's very knowledgable when it comes to Hoenn mythology and astronomy.
  • Ironic Name: His last name is Pepper, but when he was younger he disliked eating bell peppers.
  • It's Personal: REALLY hates Team Cottage for nearly destroying his hometown Fortree City and murdering his close friend (the former Fortree City gym leader). Even comparing him to those criminals will make him struggle to avoid violence.
  • Mr. Exposition: Being the local Hoennian, he explains parts of the Hoenn region to his friends.
  • Music/Age Dissonance: Tank's a modern-day teenager whose favorite artist is 80s idol Yukiko Okada.
  • Native Guide: Downplayed. He's a local Hoennian that explains things like local dishes or Hoennian sayings to the Unovan Holly and Kalosian Kidd.
  • Only Sane Man: He's the most reasonable one of the trio, the only one without any sort of parental issues, and keeps their antics in check.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When the trio meet some Team Cottage grunts, he is very silent, and at least as violent as his girlfriend.
  • Rudely Hanging Up: After lashing out at Tom Nook for only caring about Pokémon research, Tank rudely hangs up and immediately blocks Nook's number, without giving Nook a chance to explain himself. They later reconcile and stay friends, even going out to get curry together.
  • Team Mom: A male variant. He's a peacekeeper for both wild Pokémon and his friends.
  • Took a Level in Badass:
    • He starts the first chapter unable to catch Pokémon. He ends it having caught several of them.
    • He battles to get the group into a restaurant, and the battle ends with Shiitake (his Shroomish) evolving.
  • Verbal Tic: He says 'dude' a lot.
  • Youngest Child Wins: Tank is the younger twin between him and Hornsby, and has a much better life for himself. While Hornsby is a cynic trapped in his high school studies, Tank is exploring the Hoenn region and befriending multiple Pokémon.

Tank's Pokémon

His team: Sceptile, Lombre, Nuzleaf, Breloom, Lileep and Tropius.

  • Floral Theme Naming: All the Grass-types he catches are named after plants i.e. Fern the Sceptile or Cavendish the Tropius.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: After evolving, Fern the Sceptile learns the Dragon-type move Dual Chop.
  • Rescue Introduction: Cavendish and his clan of Tropius are introduced protecting the trio from a horde of angry Vileplume. Once the Vileplume are scared off, Lord Tropius blesses his son by letting him travel with the trio.
  • Two Girls to a Team: Victoria the Lombre and Grevillea the Nuzleaf are the only two girls on the roster.

     Kidd and his Pokémon

Kidd Chavignol

The third of the main protagonists. Initially from Lumiose City in Kalos, but ends up in Hoenn after his mom forced him to move with her.

  • Action Fashionista: He's a style-conscious coordinator who also kicks ass in Pokémon battles.
  • Bathing Beauty: Fitting for his water motifs, he's noted for habits like taking showers that are two hours long or indulging in plenty of bubble baths.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Kidd's compassion is how he befriends many of his Pokémon (letting Bagon join after helping her battle against a Grumpig, giving Skitty a chance after she got in a fight with Aries. Aries is an indirect example; he caught her while not knowing about her past).
  • Camp Bi: He's the most style-conscious and 'femme' of the trio, and puts a lot of focus on his appearance.
  • Cheese-Eating Surrender Monkeys: He's Kalosian, and initially doesn't want to get into Pokémon battles. Later chapters have him ditch this trait and willingly fight alongside his friends.
  • Covert Pervert: He occasionally reads NSFW doujinshi. Tank points this out at one point.
  • The Dandy: He's a stylish city boy whose also a coordinator, and is often seen caring for his appearance and wearing fancy clothes.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Kidd grew up with an emotionally abusive mother, was frequently bullied by his classmates, had only one friend (that he lost after confessing his crush (and was sexually assaulted by one of his teachers. Things get much, much better for Kidd, after he runs away from home and joins his friends.
  • Extreme Omni-Goat: One of the things that Raymond picks on him for (not true, but is used as an excuse to pick on him for his species).
  • Five-Finger Discount: He shoplifted the pins on his bag from an art thief at a convention.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: In the beginning of the story, Kidd frequently got into arguments and snarked with his friends. He grew out of this after joining them for a triple battle against a Pastel grunt.
  • French Jerk: In the first few chapters, he's incredibly snarky and aloof, but he relaxes this facade after several events in the story: battling Team Pastel with his friends, traveling to Dewford Town and discovering contests, and finally entering a contest.
  • Friendless Background: Was revealed to have this before meeting the trio. He had one friend named Aloe (implied to be related to Marshal), but later revealed he lost her friendship after confessing he loved her.
  • Gratuitous French: Being Kalosian, this is justified in his speech mannerisms, especially in earlier chapters when he's not accustomed to Hoenn.
  • Hates Their Parent: Kidd hates both his parents: his mother for emotionally abusing him, his father for being a deadbeat that went off to Alola.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: He might be the snarkiest of the trio, but he adores cute Pokémon, and his insecurity comes from his emotionally abusive mom.
  • In Love with Love: He's a big romantic at heart, enamored with shoujo manga and regularly gifting flowers to his partners.
  • Must Have Caffeine: He drinks much more coffee than his friends-turned-partners.
  • A Pig Named "Porkchop": Downplayed. Chavignol is a place in France, but is also a type of goat cheese.
  • The Runaway: Of the abused type. He ran away from home to get away from Marie (his abusive mother). She doesn't even care since she doesn't bother to go looking for him.
  • Scarf of Asskicking: Wears a scarf, and can put up a fight with his Pokémon. He even puts his Key Stone in his scarf.
  • Tall, Dark, and Snarky: While he's not the tallest in the group, he has dark brown hair and is the most snarky and sarcastic to everyone.
  • Teens Love Shopping: He's 14 and often sneaks away from the group to go clothes shopping. After Holly comes out his first instinct is to offer to take her out to buy some cute new clothes.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Croquettes, as mentioned in chapter eight. He often orders them when they're available and gets excited just from the mention of them.
  • Water Is Womanly: Kidd, the snarky coordinator of the trio, is frequently associated with water (has two Water-types on his team, is noted for taking long showers and enjoying his bubble baths).
  • Western Zodiac: He names all of his Pokémon after astrology signs. It's revealed in chapter 34 that he does it purely for aesthetics.

Kidd's Pokémon

His team: Swampert, Kadabra, Pikachu, Shelgon, Skitty and Feebas.

  • Amazon Brigade: Five of the team members are girls who hold their own ground in both Pokémon battles and coordination.
  • Beauty, Brains, and Brawn: For the team: Aries and Gemini are the Beauties (the cute looking Pikachu and Skitty), Libra is the Brains (has psychic powers and stops fights between other Pokémon) and Aquarius and Scorpio are the Brawns (both love getting into battles and showing their physical strength).
  • Cute Kitten: Gemini the Skitty is very energetic and Kidd catches her because of her cuteness.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Aries the Pikachu: she was a former Contest star, but was later released by her trainer after losing one too many contests. Because of this she refuses to participate in contests.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Aquarius the Swampert is a dual Ground-type and she uses moves like Mud Shot and Rock Slide.
  • Genki Girl: Aquarius is a bubbly high-spirited Swampert whose always bouncing on the tips of her toes, even after both her evolutions.
  • Hero-Worshipper: Gemini joins the group because she idolizes Aries for her past contest performances.
  • Non-Elemental: Gemini is a Normal-type and she uses moves outside of her type speciality, like Play Rough and Wake-Up-Slap.
  • Psychic Powers: Libra is a highly competent Psychic-type whose telekinesis skills have helped save the group when possible.
  • The One Guy: Pisces the Feebas is the one male Pokémon on the team.
