WARNING: UNMARKED SPOILERS FOR CERTAIN CHARACTERS

    open/close all folders

    In General
  • Broad Strokes: In-Universe. Omega was generated by the Akashic Record's memories, resulting in a mishmash of recorded history that can be interacted with. The result is a meaningful glimpse into the past of the Photoners and the Dark Falz, some mysteries of which clear up over the course of Episode 5, and some of which set up Episode 6.
  • Cosmic Egg: All of Omega is revealed by Elmir to be the newest vessel for the Profound Darkness. Your killing of the Omega Falzes allows it to almost hatch.
  • Dead Alternate Counterpart: Inverted. Most if not all of Omega's inhabitants are people who, in the Oracle dimension, are all dead. Such notable individuals include Luther, Gettemhult, and Melfonseana.
  • Foreshadowing: The emblems of each of the four kingdoms resemble the four Dark Falz faced in the story; Cuento is Luther, Weyland is Elder, Epyk is Apprentice, and Ys Artia is Gemini. As such, you gain the Dark Blast of said Falz in each kingdom.
  • Magical Land: Compared to the Oracle dimension where most of the setting is sci-fi, the Omega dimension takes place in a medieval fantasy complete with kingdoms, knights, swords, and magic.
  • Reality Bleed: Whenever the Ephemera or the Omega Falz get uppity, the black hole that leads to Omega expands bigger, and if left unchecked will cause the end of both the Omega and Oracle dimensions, setting up the main conflict of Episode 5.

    Ephemera

Mysterious flowers that first bloomed in Omega a few decades ago. Ephemera blossoms can be used as a catalyst for the people of Omega to perform powerful magic, but slowly drive the user to insanity. Each nation uses Ephemera for its own school of magic, but it was Luther's invention of Castrum Demonica summoning that truly changed the face of Omega, turning the tide of wars between them. The flowers are actually a mass of F-Factor particles born from the Profound Darkness.

Ephemera can be used to summon Supernaturals, creatures similar in nature to Falspawn but taking the form of fantasy monsters.

  • Action Bomb: At the end of the Defense Phase of a Buster Quest, any remaining Supernaturals will rush at a Buster Tower and self-destruct.
  • The Corruption: The use of Ephemera is addictive, and continual usage will eventually drive even the kindest souls into raving madness, obsessed with maintaining their power, using even more Ephemera, and destroying everything around them.
  • Dem Bones: Skull Soldiers and Skull Archers are skeletons wielding a sword and shield or a bow, respectively.
  • Golem: There are multiple large golems that serves as boss monsters. These include the Bomber Golem, which lobs explosives that can deal a lot of damage to Buster Towers if not destroyed in time, and Resta Golems, which can rapidly heal nearby enemies after a lengthy ritual. All variations are extremely resistant to damage outside of the weak point on their "head", but their arms can be broken off to immobilize them.

Castrum Demonica

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/castrum_demonica.jpg

Living castles created through the power of Ephemera, used as defensive fortifications by the nations of Omega.

  • Attack Its Weak Point: Castrum Demonicas are completely immune to damage until you destroy the Arx Demonica-protected gates with the Buster Rams. This allow you to rush in and attack the weak point at its base. In the final phase, it will only take damage from the orb-shaped wrist joints that are normally protected by its cuffs and hands.
  • Flunky Boss: Most of the Buster Quest is spent taking out the waves of Supernaturals and Falspawn it throws at you.
  • Living Structure Monster: Castrum Demonica are giant Supernaturals in the shape of castles.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: They're virtually immune to any kind of attack due to the protection of its Arx Demonica. Only the Buster Rams can shatter tham. Even then, it can't take damage from any point save the weak points at its base and wrists.

Elytron Dragon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elytron_dragon.png

The Crimson Fellwyrm spoken of in Cuento's legends, this massive red dragon was summoned by Lutz using Ephemera.

  • Attack Its Weak Point: After the initial phase, glowing spots appear all over its body for extra damage. Using the Laconium Sword can tear these spots wide open to allow you to deal full damage to them. Breaking all the weak points on its legs and tail will cause it to collapse, allowing you to pile damage until its still-vulnerable head.
  • Battle Theme Music: "DIZTOWRE" and "LEYGENDER"
  • Boom, Headshot!: The dragon's only consistent weak point following the initial phase is its head, encouraging those with ranged weaponry like Rangers and Bow-wielding Bravers to aim for it instead of trying to chase it across the arena. In addition, the ending cinematic of the "Black Fellwyrm Upon the Castle" quest has your character meet the dragon head-on before plunging the Laconium Sword into its head to kill it.
  • Breath Weapon: As expected of a dragon, the Elytron Dragon breathes fire that covers a massive area and deals heavy damage if not blocked or dodged.
  • Death from Above: The dragon will frequently aim its breath up into the air to bring down a barrage of meteors onto the field that cover a wide area. It will also make sweeping charges of the arena after taking enough damage.
  • Draconic Abomination: Despite looking like a typical dragon, it's actually a mass of Ephemera taking its form.
  • "Get Back Here!" Boss: One of the most challenging parts about it is how much it moves, forcing you to chase after it across the arena. This is worsened by its Nigh-Invulnerability to any attack not aimed at a weak point.
  • Herd-Hitting Attack: All of the Dragon's attacks cover a huge area and deal heavy damage, challenging players to dodge and block them rather than try to simply walk around them.
  • Lightning Bruiser: It's incredibly fast, reduces everything not aimed at a weak point to Scratch Damage, and can easily wipe out half or more of your health bar in a single hit with attacks that cover a huge area.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: Its scales ensure that most attacks will be reduced to scratch damage. The initial phases of the fight will have you clawing for every last point of damage until Alis is able to send in the Laconium Sword so you can tear open its weak points to hit at full strength.
  • Physical God: It's considered one of the most powerful beings on Omega, with the ability to wreck the world as we know it. Even the Sword Maiden, whose blade is solely devoted to defeating the beast, can only seal it away. Due to Elmir's meddling, it's only defeated when Luther sacrifices himself by taking in the Ephemera powering it, rendering it vulnerable and freeing Lutz's soul at the cost of driving Luther to madness in the coming weeks.
  • Purple Is the New Black: Its rematch version, the Atolm Dragon, is referred to as the Black Fellwyrm, but its scales are actually a deep purple.
  • Red Baron: Although its actual name is Elytron Dragon, it's feared as the "Crimson Fellwyrm".
  • Resurrective Immortality: No matter how many times it's defeated, cut apart, and sealed away, the dragon will resurrect itself in time. That's why the line of Sword Maidens exist to stop it every time it does so.
  • Soul Jar: After being defeated by Alis the first time, the dragon becomes one to Lutz, as Elmir used Lutz's lingering hatred and desire for power to strengthen the dragon's Resurrective Immortality.
  • Superboss: Completing the "Crimson Fellwyrm Upon the Castle" Urgent Quest and meeting the Level 80 class requirements will unlock the "Black Fellwyrm" quest. In this battle, the party is limited to four players and the boss hits even harder, but victory will trigger a cinematic where your character strikes down the dragon with the Laconium Sword in addition to another chance for loot.
  • Turns Red: Inverted. After taking enough damage, the dragon will cloak itself in flames and take off into the sky to make two highly damaging charges at you. But afterward, it will start to slow down and stop to catch its breath, making it much easier to assault the weak points on its legs and tail to take it down and leave it open to even more damage.

Kingdom of Cuento

    Hariette Renata Reina Cuento
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hariette_pso2.png
The Princess of Cuento
Voiced by: Megumi Han (JP)

The deuteragonist and main heroine of Episode 5. She is the princess of the Kingdom of Cuento and current heir to the throne. Compassionate and headstrong, she leads the Revolutionary Army after her uncle Lutz, corrupted by the Ephemera flowers, killed her father and seized control of the throne for himself. One day, while trying to rendevous with her brother at one of their bases, she is attacked by Lutz' soldiers and is saved by the Protagonist. Recognizing them as the one spoken of legends as a hero who would save the land, she asks for their aid in eliminating the Ephemera from her kingdom.

  • Action Girl: Much like Matoi and Hitsugi before her, Hariette is unafraid to face any foe if it's for the sake of her kingdom and the land of Omega in general.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Hariette was accidentally killed by Luther when she was prior to the events of Episode 5, but it's initially unclear whether or not the current Hariette is the same one as before (possible, as Luther's experiments at the time involved a form of time travel that might have brought her back to life) or a clone. However, at the climax of Episode 5, Elmir reveals that she's the vessel of the Profound Darkness' F-Factors, snatched from the Akashic Records and molded into the original Hariette's likeness. Episode 6 implies, however, that Hariette was always the same person all along, having been summoned to Omega when it was created, and she had been dormant in Risa previously.
  • Ascend to a Higher Plane of Existence: Her fate in the ending of Episode 5. Her body is destroyed along with Elmir after they fuse to form Elga Masquerade, but her will to live and everyone's hopes allowed her soul to persist. Klariskrays the First then offers up her body and consciousness to Hariette to become the new goddess of Omega, upon which she becomes one with the world itself. This also results in Hariette's consciousness in the Oracle dimension to surface, allowing her to fully communicate with Risa and those around her in ARKS.
  • Back from the Dead: Early in Episode 5, Hariette states in a monologue to herself that she "died" once already. It's later revealed that Luther accidentally killed her in the past and brought her back somehow.
  • Barrier Maiden: She ultimately leaves Risa in Episode 6 Chapter 5 so that she can stay behind in Omega to maintain the barrier that seals Shiva's Anti-Magic.
  • Beneath the Mask: Her parents taught her that a royal must never show weakness and be able to take any kind of slander or slight with a smile and press onward for the sake of the people. But beneath her confident, unflappable public persona, she's an insecure teenage girl who's terrified by the weight of her responsibilities.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Together with Matoi and Hitsugi, the trio of heroines proceed to rescue the Protagonist from the Profound Darkness in the finale of Episode 6.
  • Big Good: For the Kingdom of Cuento and Episode 5 in general.
  • The Chains of Commanding: Admits to the Protagonist that she's afraid of what her duty entails and it stresses her out enough that she privately goes through mental exercises to strengthen her resolve. She asks that they don't tell anyone so as to help keep up morale.
  • Clone Angst: After her original death, Hariette started to wonder to herself if the person she was was truly the real Hariette who died and came back, or simply a clone who had the memories of the original Hariette. Regardless of the truth however, she decides to devote her life to doing good as she's grateful to have been able to live the life she had. Elmir tries to break her spirit with this, but Luther later reassures her that she was, and always will be, his sister Hariette.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Blue hair and blue eyes.
  • Deuteragonist: Like Hitsugi in Episode 4, Hariette serves as this for Episode 5, being the main heroine and primary driving force of the story.
  • Equippable Ally: Like Aurora to Euclyta, she serves as one for Risa as "Hariette the Celestial", an assault rifle type Cosmogenic Arm. Episode 6 further reveals that Hariette was actually the first Cosmogenic Arm to ever exist. It's later shown that Hariette is able to make use of said weapon herself during the finale.
  • Good Counterpart: To Shiva, the latter of whom is basically Hariette but without her soul and instead possessed by the Profound Darkness.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Her in-game class is Hero and appropriately enough she fights with a single one-handed sword.
  • Heroic Lineage: Comes from a long line of heroes and kings who have defended the Kingdom of Cuento for generations.
  • The High Queen: Once Lutz is taken down she ascends the throne and becomes Queen of Cuento, ruling justly and fairly with the complete adoration of the people. Even when they brand her the Ice Queen for killing Luther to stop him from overunning Cuento with Supernaturals, she continues to work tirelessly to defend them.
  • The Immune: She absorbs a massive amount of Ephemera corruption while trying to create an opening for the Guardian to drain Apprentice's power from Margareta. Strangely enough, Hariette is perfectly fine afterward, even though a similar amount of Ephemera was enough to drive her brother to lunacy. It's later revealed that she's immune because she's the destined vessel of the Profound Darkness, meaning those F-Factor are simply a part of her.
  • Kicking Ass in All Her Finery: Her battle regalia includes a flowing, feathered cape that drags along the ground. Doesn't make her any less competent of a soldier, even if the Guardian is the one doing most of the heavy lifting.
  • Kill the Ones You Love: She's forced to kill her own brother, Luther, after he completely succumbs to the madness of his Ephemera corruption and his Oracle counterpart's memories.
  • King Incognito: As a child, she had a habit of disguising herself to sneak out of the castle and walk among the common people. Through this, she learned of the joys and plights of her subjects, devoting herself to aiding them however she could. This is why everyone in Cuento knows her face and contributes to her immense popularity.
  • Morality Pet: She is this for her brother Luther. Had it not been for Hariette's influence, the Omega Luther likely would have become exactly like his Oracle dimension counterpart.
  • Not So Above It All: Even the regal Hariette gets tired enough of Margareta's antics to deliver, along with the Protagonist, a knock to the head when Margareta takes things too far.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: A firm believer in this. Together with her brother, she leads a resistance from the front lines to take down her Uncle Lutz, the current King of Cuento, after he was corrupted by the Ephemera flowers and forcibly seized the throne after murdering her father. Once she takes the throne, she then makes a point to help better the lives of her citizens.
  • True Blue Femininity: Compared to Matoi and Hitsugi who are both associated with the color red, Hariette has the distinction of being associated with the color blue and is by far the most traditionally feminine among the three heroines of the story.
  • Universally Beloved Leader: Among those in the Revolutionary Army, both frontline members and civilians alike, adore Hariette very much as a kind leader who looks out for her people. Xiera notes that Hariette's army is less devoted to her cause of eliminating Ephemera than they are to her personally. Once she ascends the throne it becomes even more obvious. But this status is shaken after she's forced to murder her own brother after he succumbs to the effects of Ephemera and was preparing to unleash an endless wave of Supernaturals upon Cuento. From then on, she becomes known as the Ice Queen for being able to do this and resume as though nothing happened, even though she's clearly hurting inside.
  • Warrior Princess: A princess leading a resistance to overthrow the current King of Cuento, have no problems commanding her army from the front lines, and can kick some butts when the situation calls for it.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Hariette's fate after the finale of Episode 6 is left unaddressed. Presumably she either went back to Risa or more likely decided to go back to Omega as its goddess.
  • Workaholic: Her tireless crusade to rid the world of Ephemera consumes her, and it takes a stern talking to from Varuna to even get her to consider taking a break.
  • Young and in Charge: She's 17 years old and helps lead the Revolutionary Army together with older brother Luther. After Lutz is taken down, she's eventually becomes Queen of Cuento.

    Luther Lars Rey Cuento (SPOILERS)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/omega_luther_pso2.png
Inquisitor of the Magical Arts of Cuento
Voiced by: Takahiro Sakurai (JP), Billy Kametz (NA)

The Omega counterpart of Luther. Although eerily similar to the late Luther of the Oracle universe, the Luther of Omega is a recreation of the original brought about by the dream of the Akashic Record. Although scheming, wise, and cunning, Luther is of royal blood, and is the elder brother to Hariette. He possesses deep information concerning the strange Ephemera, and despite his personality, avidly works together with his younger sister to take down the King of Cuento.

  • Abdicate the Throne: As Hariette's older brother, Luther was actually first-in-line to the throne of Cuento but abdicated his right to succeed in favor of his younger sister. This was mostly because he wanted to continue his research uninhibited.
  • The Atoner:
    • As the one who created the Castrum Demonica in the first place, Luther sees it as his personal responsibility to help take care of them due to all the problems it's caused throughout Omega and created the Buster Towers for the exact purpose of destroying them.
    • It's also later revealed that he accidentally "killed" Hariette during one of his experiments to reach the Akashic Record. leaving him to grieve until he somehow revived through unknown means. Wrought with guilt over what he did, Luther decides to give his sister his unconditional support as he aids Hariette in restoring order to Cuento and crowing her as its new queen.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Towards Hariette. Omega Luther is in many ways similar to Oracle Luther, but one of the key differences is the love and care he shows towards Hariette. At the climax of Episode 5, he leads the Dark Falz in stalling Elmir's copies of them so the Guardian can take Elmir down and save Hariette. Luther then gives the Guardian a stern warning that their deal to work together will be nulled should they fail to save her.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Subverted. Due to having Luther's face, voice, and personality, Xiera and the Protagonist are immediately on edge around him, expecting him to be plotting something behind everyone's back. But the Omega version of Luther is genuinely kind, compassionate, and devoted to the well-being of Cuento and its people. Only after The Corruption takes hold of him does he truly act like the Luther they know.
  • Cool Big Bro: For all his aloofness and snarkiness, Luther dotes on Hariette as the one person he can truly empathize with. Hariette trusts him with everything, even keeping secrets from their father for his sake. When they were children, he brought her to their mother's favorite flower field to give her a chance to let out her pent up emotions and stress in a place free of royal obligations. When his experiments accidentally kill her, he wishes he had been the one to die instead.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Has a habit of snarking at the people around him. Hariette often has to rein him in.
  • Dying as Yourself: After his Omega Angel form is defeated, Luther returns to normal and is given a peaceful death by Hariette and the Protagonist. The latter also absorbs the original Luther's record in the process.
  • Face–Monster Turn: Due to the spell he used to help render the Crimson Fellwyrm vulnerable, Luther ends up succumbing to the corruption of the Ephemera which results in him becoming the main antagonist of Chapter 3 in Episode 5.
  • For Science!: Much like the original Luther, Omega Luther is obsessed with his research. However, thanks to Hariette's influence, he's far less extreme about it than his Oracle counterpart.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's aloof, sardonic and believes himself above others, but he's also fully aware that a good amount of the problems in Omega stem from his research into the Ephemera, doing his damnedest to try to undermine the Castrum Demonicas and the nations that abuse them. He also does his best to not mistreat Hariette whatsoever, which is why him starting to yell at her and advising violent methods against foreigners is a massive red flag of him suffering from Ephemera corruption.
  • Irony: In the Oracle dimension, Luther is a Mad Scientist who cares little for anyone but himself. In the Omega dimension, Luther, while still research-obsessed, is a caring older brother to Hariette and a dutiful prince to the people of Cuento that tries to do his best to atone for the problems he help caused.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Luther inadvertently killed Hariette during one of his harebrained experiments to reach beyond the Akashic Record, which caused him serious grief.
  • One-Winged Angel: He becomes a new version of the Falz Angel when he battles you in his hidden lab.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Luther's eyes glow red when he's been completely overcome by his memories of his Oracle self, showing the Epherera's corruption of his mind and body.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Together with his sister, the two lead a resistance to take down the current King of Cuento, with Luther himself being the who created the Buster Towers needed to take down a Castrum Demonica. He was also the one who researched and created the latter to act as defensive measures against possible attacks from foreign nations.
  • Sanity Slippage: After using an Ephemera flower to help temporarily seal away the Crimson Fellwyrm, Luther's sanity takes a dive as he starts acting like his Oracle dimension counterpart. Not helping matters is that he starts seeing Oracle Luther's memories as well. This eventually culminates in him snapping and becoming the main threat of Episode 5 Chapter 3.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Luther uses himself as a vessel to draw out and contain the Ephemera possessing the Crimson Fellwyrm. This predictably has bad results, as the Ephemera he absorbs eventually drives him off the deep end and causes him to revert to his original Oracle personality.
  • Spanner in the Works: Elmir would've been content to slowly eat away at Omega from the shadows and expand the black hole naturally, until Luther summoned him into the open, forcing him to take a more active role.
  • Survivor Guilt: After summoning what is implied to be either Falspawn or some larval form of the Profound Darkness, Hariette takes an attack that would have killed Luther, leaving him to agonize over her death and say that he should have been one to die, not her.
  • Who Would Be Stupid Enough?: Luther remarks that with the Castrum Demonica on every border, no one would be stupid enough to cross a border without permission. Within moments of him saying this, a guard runs up to report that someone had tried to cross Weyland's border with Cuento, triggering the Castrum Demonica. Luther sighs, facepalms and says that he stands corrected.
  • Winged Humanoid: He sprouts wings like the Avian Falspawn after succumbing to his Ephemera-induced insanity while kidnapping Hariette.

    Lutz Cero Ray Cuento
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lutz_pso2.png
The King of Cuento
Voiced by: Sho Hayami (JP)

The Omega counterpart of a powerful wizard from another universe. Once the Prime Minister of Cuento, Lutz ascended to the throne by killing his brother the former king. Now the throne-bearer, he seeks to crush Hariette's resistance movement and unite Cuento under his iron fist via the power the power of the Ephemera flower.

  • Brainwashed and Crazy: As revealed in the backstory, Lutz was once a kind man who dutifully served the Kingdom of Cuento in order to protect it from those who would dare harm it. However, due to constant exposure to the Ephemera, Lutz eventually ends up turning on his brother the former King along with his nephew and niece after they try to eliminate the Ephemera from the land.
  • Evil Uncle: Towards Hariette, Luther, and Alis. This is not by choice however as the constant exposure to the Ephemera flowers eventually withered away at his sanity to the point that the former three barely recognize him anymore as their beloved uncle.
  • Older Than They Look: Despite being the uncle of Hariette and the others, Lutz hismelf doesn't look that much older than his nieces and nephews.
  • Redemption Equals Death: After the Crimson Fellwyrm is sealed away by the Laconium Sword, Lutz, his soul now free of the influence of Ephemera, expresses his regret at his actions and thanks Alis and the player for freeing him before disappearing.
  • Taking You with Me: Tries pulling this on the Protagonist and company by bringing down all of Cuento Royal Castle on their heads. He fails due to Alis calling upon the Laconium Sword to cast Exit at the last minute.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Once corned by the Protagonist, Hariette, Luther, and Alis, he undergoes this, announcing that everyone ought to be offerings to be sacrificed and tries to take all of them down with him.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: While the Ephemera corrupted him, Lutz is still driven by the desire to try and protect his kingdom from those who would harm it, seeing his brother, and later his children Hariette and Luther, trying to remove the Ephemera as doing just that as he doesn't think that the kingdom will be able to defend itself without their power.

    Alis Landale
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alis_pso2.png
The Sword Maiden
Voiced by: Sumi Shimamoto (JP)

The Omega counterpart of a legendary heroine from another universe. A servant to the throne and a legendary warrior princess within Cuento, Alis is a young woman who fights for what her heart believes in. Despite being under the command of Lutz, she ultimately sides with Hariette's resistance movement and wishes to bring down her corrupted king.

  • Action Girl: Once the Crimson Fellwyrm reawakens, she more or less curb-stomps it with her power and skill, proving her credentials as Sword Maiden. But when Elmir revives it with Ephemera and binds Lutz's soul to it, it's more than she can take on alone.
  • Adaptation Species Change: The original Alis from the first Phantasy Star game was human. Omega-Alis on the other hand is a Newman.
  • Adaptational Skimpiness: Omega-Alis wears a Stripperific dress that puts her body on display, a far cry from the original Alis who wears modest outfit atypical of JRPG female characters at the time.
  • Ancestral Weapon: The Laconium Sword. It originally belonged to her ancestor who was the one to slay the Crimson Fellwyrm in ancient times, and has since been passed down through her family throughout the years.
  • Badass Family: In addition to coming from a family that was descended from a great hero, Alis herself is related to the royal family of Cuento which gives her familial relations to both Hariette and Luther.
  • Cool Sword: The Laconium Sword is a legendary blade that was once used to slay the Crimson Fellwyrm. It is only able to utilize its full power against the beast, but when it does it fires a Sword Beam with every swing, turns the scabbard into a magical shield, and can forcibly open weak points on the Fellwyrm's nearly impregnable hide. It can also duplicate itself, allowing Alis to bestow its powers on others and have them aid her in battling the dragon. On top of all this, it also gives Alis the ability to access "ancient magic", such as using the Exit spell for a quick getaway, which Xiera marvels at as improvised teleportation is not something even ARKS is capable of.
  • Heroic Lineage: As with Hariette and Luther, Alis comes from a long line of heroes who helped serve the Kingdom of Cuento for generations, with Alis herself being the latest in her family to inherit the title of "Sword Maiden" which entails her as being the one to slay the Crimson Fellwyrm should it ever return.
  • Lady of War: She's the latest in a line of women to bear the title of the legendary Sword Maiden and carries herself with poise both on and off the battlefield.
  • Mythology Gag: Alis is seen using Rope (against the Crimson Fellwyrm) and later Exit, both spells that the original Alis could learn in Phantasy Star I. The Laconium Sword is also based on the similarly-named Laconian Sword weapon found in said game, which was guarded by a Red Dragon miniboss (that serves as the inspiration for the Crimson Fellwyrm).
  • Navel-Deep Neckline: Her outfit has an opening that goes from her neck all the way down to her stomach, leaving her bra exposed.
  • One-Woman Army: As shown in Episode 5, whenever Alis unleashes the power of the Laconium Sword she instantly turns into this as she proves capable of mowing down hordes of enemies. Together with the Guardian, the two are able to cut a path together to reach Hariette's location during the finale.
  • Put on a Bus: She stays behind to guard the Fellwyrm's seal after its defeat, which prevents her from joining you on any of your other adventures. She returns at the end to organize Cuento's evacuation while the Guardian takes the fight to the Profound Darkness itself.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Rather than fight Hariette and Luther, she tries to parlay with them in order to understand their motives in rebelling against the Kingdom of Cuento despite being heirs to the throne. Once she hears their side of the story, she eventually decides to side with them over Lutz.
  • Red Baron: She is known across Omega as "The Sword Maiden".
  • Stripperiffic: Her garb consists of a miniskirt and a royal dress that has effectively no neckline, with her bra on display.
  • Storm of Blades: One of the skills she uses with the Laconium Sword is to create numerous copies of it and launch them at her opponents.
  • Weapon of X-Slaying: Alis wields the Laconium Sword, a blade devoted to the sole purpose of slaying the Crimson Fellwyrm.

    Varuna La Shiec
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/varuna_pso2.png
Knight of Cuento
Voiced by: Natsuki Hanae (JP)

A devoted and loyal knight of Hariette's who helps oversee the Revolutionary Army's military matters and serves as her right hand man. Though initially wary of the Guardian, he warms up to them and trusts them to look out for Hariette when he's unable to.

  • Green-Eyed Monster: Though he tries to downplay it, it's rather obvious that he's this towards the Protagonist as he's jealous of how much Hariette relies on them due to their strength.
  • Odd Name Out: Whereas the other two Phantasy Star Classic characters are named for protagonists, he's named after the main non-Falz villain of the first game. It's revealed at the end of Episode 5 that he was Evil All Along, working for Shiva the whole time.
  • Number Two: He's Hariette's adjutant and second-in-command, issuing her orders to the rest of the rebel army.
  • Subordinate Excuse: Has rather obvious feelings for Hariette that Xiera and the Protagonist are able to notice it when he makes a point to declare to the Protagonist that he'll be the one to protect Hariette and not them.
  • Undying Loyalty: Towards Hariette.

Weyland Empire

    Gettemhult Gwinner
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/omega_gettemhult_pso2.png
Boxer of Weyland
Voiced by: Nobuo Tobita (JP)

The Omega counterpart of Gettemhult. Gettemhult is a warrior from the Weyland Empire, a nation to the north of Cuento also engulfed in civil war. Although aggressive and abrasive, Gettemhult is generally seen as a good person by those around him, and is respected among the members of the small band of civilians that he and Melfonseana protect. He, too, seeks to overthrow the ruler of his land, Schreger Weyland, and ultimately end the fighting once and for all.

  • Dark and Troubled Past: Together with Melfonseana, the two of them were part of the Fiend Trooper project wherein the empire experimented on its citizens to basically turn even the weakest individual into a Super-Soldier. Suffice it to say, the experiments were not pleasant and many people died. Gettemhult and Melfonseana were among the lucky ones who escaped.
  • Good Old Fisticuffs: Like his Oracle counterpart, Gettemhult prefers to fight with nothing but his fists and a pair of gauntlets on them.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: In order to take down Schreger who revived himself by possessing Melfonseana, Gettemhult allows himself to be absorbed by the Protagonist. This allows him to gain his Oracle counterpart's memories, inadvertently unlocking the Dark Blast Elder form, which the Protagonist uses to defeat Schreger once and for all.
  • Incurable Cough of Death: The effects of the Fiend Trooper project greatly reduced his and Melfonseana's lifespan, manifesting in them hacking up blood after long fights. Xiera points out that this will happen increasingly often if they keep fighting, but their grudge against Schreger is so profound that they don't care if they die killing him.
  • It's Personal: With Emperor Schreger. In addition to wanting to take him down for the sake of the people of Weyland, Gettemhult also wants to personal revenge on the man for starting the Fiend Trooper project which resulted in him, Melfonseana, and many others being experimented on.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Is as abrasive as his Oracle counterpart, but unlike the former who slowly slipped into madness over the years thanks to his Melfonseana's death, Omega Gettemhult retains his moral compass and does his best to protect the people he cares about.
  • Manly Man: Bare-chested, muscular, and a hand-to-hand brawler who fights to protect those who can't defend themselves. He calls the men who try to flee the monsters "pansies" while punching away the Supernaturals and even killing a wolf by forcing its jaws apart until they're torn clean off its head.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The aggressive red to Melfonseana's calmer blue.
  • Super-Soldier: He and Melfonseana are the product of experiments to turn ordinary civilians into mighty warriors at the cost of their lifespan.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: Discussed. When the Guardian offers to help Gettemhult and Melfonseana take down Schreger, Gettemhult says that he'll take it... but only so long as they agree to kill Schreger. Gettemhult goes on to say that he doesn't want any of the "all life is precious" talk, and Melfonseana agrees. Luckily for them, the Guardian is an Action Hero used to cutting down entire armies of enemies, so they have nothing to worry about.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: The top half of his outfit shows off his bare chest.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: Thanks to the experiments done on him and Melfonseana, neither of them will live for long. This is part of the reason why they're both so obsessed with trying to take revenge on Schreger.

    Melfonseana Riesfeldt

Dual Sword-Wielder of Weyland
Voiced by: Maaya Sakamoto (JP)

A female warrior from the Weyland Empire and the Omega counterpart of Melfonseana. After King Lutz was overthrown by Hariette and her Revolutionary Army, Melfonseana arrived in Cuento in search of the Guardian, the Protagonist, to ask them for their aid in saving her homeland from its own tyrant, Emperor Schreger.

  • Action Girl: Her first scene is of her trying to power her way through against a horde of enemies in order to reach Cuento. She might have even succeeded had it not been for the Castrum Demonica in her way.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Much like in the Oracle dimension, she's often referred to as "Seana" by Gettemhult.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: As mentioned in Gettemhult's entry, the two of them were test subjects for the Fiend Trooper project which forcefully turned many unwilling citizens into super soldiers for the empire to use. Both her and Gettemhult were able to escape, but have since sworn vengeance on Schreger for what he's done.
  • Demonic Possession: Gets possessed by the Schreger at the end of his fight, and he uses her body to nearly kill Gettemhult. Fortunately, fusing with Gettemhult awakens you to Dark Blast Elder, letting you defeat Schreger for good. Sadly, Melfonseana still dies, but at least at peace.
  • Dual Wielding: Primarily wields twin daggers as her weapon of choice.
  • Fighting from the Inside: After getting possessed by Schreger, Melfonseana retains enough semblance of herself that she's able to temporarily halt his movements and ask both the Protagonist and Gettemhult to kill her.
  • Incurable Cough of Death: The effects of the Fiend Trooper project greatly reduced her and Gettemhult's lifespan, manifesting in them hacking up blood after long fights. Xiera points out that this will happen increasingly often if they keep fighting, but their grudge against Schreger is so profound that they don't care if they die killing him.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The calmer blue to Gettemhult's aggressive red.
  • Only Sane Man: Although she bears the same grudge against Schreger that Gettemhult does, Melfonseana is more sociable and outgoing than he is and doesn't hide her feelings behind a veneer of bravado. Because of this, she's able to communicate what he's thinking to others and is able to receive the Guardian's aid because of this.
  • Stripperific: Much like her Oracle dimension counterpart, Melfonseana's outfit shows an impractical amount of skin.
  • Super-Soldier: She and Gettemhult are the product of experiments to turn ordinary civilians into mighty warriors at the cost of their lifespan.
  • Taking the Bullet: Prevents Gettemhult from getting hit by Schreger's last attack by shielding him. This unfortunately gets her possessed by him.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: Her and Gettemhult both don't have very long to live thanks to the experiments done on them.

    Schreger Weyland
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/schreger_weyland_pso2.png
Emperor of Weyland
Voiced by: Banjo Ginga

The current ruler of the Weyland Empire. He rules his lands with an iron fist, culminating in a civil war within the Empire as the people try to depose of him.

  • All There in the Manual: Episode 5 itself never elaborates on the connection between Schreger and Dark Falz Elder, and why he rather than Gettemhult becomes Omega Hyunal. The Materials Collection explains that Oracle's Schreger was the first Photoner to become a Dark Falz — the original Elder.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: According to Melfonseana, Schreger became the emperor by defeating everyone else and has since taken down any opposition that have tried to remove him from the throne. He's strong enough to face the Guardian, Melfonseana, and Gettemhult at the same time, albeit losing the confrontation while the Guardian isn't even winded. He only turns the tide when he steals Melfonseana's body, making the Guardian reluctant to strike her down and leaving them open to a Falz Hyunal punch.
  • Body Snatcher: After being initially taken down, Schreger uses what remaining strength he has to try and take over Gettemhult's body. He fails when Melfonseana intervenes, resulting in him taking over her body instead.
  • Blood Knight: Eagerly desires a challenge and is thrilled when he hears of the Protagonist's strength.
  • Evil Counterpart: He's this to Gettemhult, both the Oracle and Omega versions. Schreger is basically a Gettemhult who never had anyone to care for and whose Might Makes Right mentality is taken to its logical extreme where he forces everyone to follow his whims whether they like it or not because he's the strongest.
  • Evil Old Folks: He's over 59 years old by the time the story takes place and is very much a cruel man.
  • Graceful Loser: Once he's finally defeated for good, he congratulates the Protagonist on their victory.
  • Might Makes Right: Believes that his strength grants him the authority to do whatever he wants.
  • Obviously Evil: From the get-go, one could tell he's not really all that good of a man just by the way he looks.
  • One-Winged Angel: Through the power of the Ephemera, he is able to transform into a stronger Falz Hyunal.
  • Practically Different Generations: He and Elmir are brothers, but Schreger is 59 while Elmir is 29. Gettemhult even states that they might as well be father and son because of it.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: He dresses primarily in black with red highlights and silver accents.
  • The Social Darwinist: A believer of the "survival of the fittest" mentality which causes no end of grief to the people he rules over as he forces them to do his bidding whether they like it or not. On the other side of the coin, this is also what allows him to be a Graceful Loser, since by his own criteria, the Protagonist has proven themselves to be the superior in their confrontation.
  • Spikes of Villainy: His outfit is covered in spikes and thorny patterns.
  • Worthy Opponent: Sees the Protagonist as this after hearing of their feats and can't wait for their inevitable clash.

    Elmir Weyland (SPOILERS)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elmir_weyland_pso2.png
Advisor of Weyland
Click here to see The Ephemeral Phantom
Voiced by: Showtaro Morikubo (JP)

The younger brother and advisor of Schreger, the Emperor of Weyland. After Schreger's defeat at the hands of the Guardian, he travels between nations to carry out his own plans. He's later revealed to be the Omega counterpart of Persona, forced into an unborn Elmir thanks to Omega Luther accidentally killing Hariette and reviving her. He seeks to reawaken the Profound Darkness sleeping within Omega by gathering the four main Factors reincarnated within the kingdoms, which in turn will cause the black hole to expand and consume everything.

  • Badass in a Nice Suit: His outfit in general is reminiscent of a suit. When he's revealed to be the Omega counterpart of Persona, he later gets another one similar to the one they wear.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: He tries to portray himself as the ultimate antagonist that the Protagonist must overcome, but compared to everything else that the latter have faced, Elmir comes up short in comparison.
  • Bragging Rights Reward: The reward for defeating the hardest version of Omega Masquerade is a simple Palette Swap of Masquerade's cape to match his Depth 999 version.
  • Evil Counterpart: After it's revealed that he's the new Dark Falz Persona, he quickly becomes this to the original Persona. Persona fought to save Matoi from her fate of becoming the Profound Darkness' host and ultimately sacrificed themselves in order to seal it away. Elmir on the other hand actively schemes to resurrect the Profound Darkness, having no qualms about sacrificing Hariette and the entirety of Omega to achieve his goals.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: As a Dark Falz, Elmir firmly believes that Humans Are Bastards and is shocked to see so many people fighting for the Guardian's and Hariette's sake when they were squabbling amongst one another scantly a few months ago.
  • Evil Knockoff: To the original Persona. The Protagonist considers Elmir to be a mockery of what Persona stood for, and when they fight, the Protagonist doesn't even need to go all out to defeat Elmir's Profound Darkness form at all.
  • Evil Laugh: Elmir laughs maniacally when it looks like the Guardian and Margareta had been swallowed up by an enormous horde of Supernaturals and Falspawn. It's cut short when it's revealed that Klariskrays the First had rescued them both and was now tearing open a path for the Guardian to reach him.
  • Guyliner: He wears heavy hot-pink eyeshadow along with a matching teardrop mark under his right eye.
  • Hated by All: Very few people actually like him. Not even Schreger, his own brother, seems to care much for Elmir and only keeps him around cause he's useful. It even gets to a point where the all the Dark Falz within the Protagonist's mind want to take turns beating his ass into the ground for all the shit he's done in the name of recreating the Profound Darkness.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: His hair covers his left eye. Definitely the deceptive type.
  • Humans Are Bastards: He tries to break Hariette's spirit by reiterating how humanity has turned on itself time and again over petty squabbles, and that the Profound Darkness was born from a desire to wipe out everything to create true peace. Unfortunately for him, she rebuts him with the efforts of the Guardian and all of the people who arrived to rescue her, showing that while humanity can be cruel, they can also be kind and come together to perform incredible feats.
  • Large Ham: He's incredibly theatrical, and absolutely loves to hear himself talk.
  • Meaningful Appearance: His hair is a lavender color with a red streak unlike any other person's in the game. This is Foreshadowing to his true identity as the new Dark Falz Persona, as his hairstyle is just a slightly less saturated version of Persona's mask.
  • Mirror Match: His Masquerade form is clearly styled after the Guardian's own Hero class, perhaps in an attempt to Beat Them at Their Own Game. He fights primarily with a sword and several of his attacks are reminiscent of the playable Hero's moves. He even has his own "Hero Time" Finishing Move! He also does possess a number of abilities that are unique to him though.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: On the receiving end of one at the final battle from not just the Guardian, but all the Falzes as well. First the Guardian duels and defeats him twice over, and then all the Falz take turns having a go at him with their Dark Blast forms before Persona and the Guardian deal the finishing blow.
  • The Omnipresent: He exists everywhere in Omega at once. Even if you kill him, he can simply make a new body and get right back up again. This is how he's able to infiltrate Ys Artia with ease, as well as get up unscathed after being devoured alive by Margareta's snakes and shot in the head by Clarissa.
  • One-Winged Angel: After fusing with Hariette he transforms into Elga Masquerade, a new incarnation of the Profound Darkness, for the final battle of Episode 5.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: In Episode 5, Chapter 4, he disguises himself as Margareta of Epyk's newest priest, who inspires her to summon her own Guardian to counter the player character. This is despite the fact that it's him under a mask and a robe, not even bothering to change his voice or mannerisms, yet he successfully causes Epyk to be overrun by the Apprentice Emmissaries. To be fair, however, Margareta hadn't seen him for a long time (and did manage to figure out who he was after things went wrong), and she also knew he was up to no good from the start given how much he sucked up to her when no one else does - she just rode along with it for the sake of having a legendary story to her name.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Even prior to being revealed as a Dark Falz, his clothes match his brother's in that they're black and red with dashes of silver.
  • Resurrective Immortality: He has quite a few on-screen deaths. It doesn't stop him. It's only after losing as Elga Masquerade that he's finally "killed", despite claiming to come back. Afterwards, what's left is used by Shiva to create Dark Falz Persona while another fragment becomes Omega Masquerade, but as a person, he's effectively dead.
  • Sequential Boss: He's first fought in his human form as Persona Elmir before the final battle against Elga Masquerade.
  • Something about a Rose: His vest and pants are patterned with thorned vines and rose blossoms, respectively. This marks his association with the Ephemera flowers.
  • Smug Snake: Oh so much.
  • Superboss: His Masquerade form can be rematched repeatedly in the Ultimate Quest, "Survey: Remnants of a Parallel World". He can be fought as many times as you like (albeit with a limit of ten times per day), and repeated victories against him will allow you to raise the "Depth" level. The higher the number, the more gimmicks he gains, such as immunity to attacks that bring him below a certain HP threshold, the ability to inflict Wound with his sword attacks to prevent healing, and increasing amounts of damage. The final version of him at Depth 999 gains a Palette Swap along with the ability to deal 999,999 damage per hit, forcing you to play perfectly to avoid getting simple swatted down with a single hit.
  • There's No Kill like Overkill: His final boss form, the Depth 999 version of Omega Masquerade, deals 999,999 damage with every attack. For context, most players won't have much more than 2,000 health even with the beefiest classes in the game and top-end augments.
  • This Cannot Be!: After all his preparations and plans, he becomes increasingly unhinged as the Guardian and the people of Omega subvert all of his expectations one after the other. His Villainous Breakdown is punctuated by the No-Holds-Barred Beatdown he gets from the entire Dark Falz Collective, including the Guardian and the original Persona.
  • Villainous Breakdown: His composure nosedives as Episode 5 approaches its end and all of his plans unravel before his eyes. Even though he should be holding all the cards, his constant refusal to believe in humanity's ability to unite against a great evil as well as its love and affection for one another makes it impossible for him to conceive of a possibility that he might lose until he's dying at the Guardian's hands.
  • Why Won't You Die?: Once he takes center stage, he throws wave after wave after wave of Omega Demons and Darkers at you, including several of the bosses and the Omega Falz. Your allies always help you survive and push through, and he gets more manic every time.

Ys Artia

    Florent Arlequin d'Ys Artia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/florent_pso2.png
The First Successor of Ys Artia
Voiced by: Rie Kugimiya (JP)

The First Successor of Ys Artia and the Omega counterpart of Gemini the Duplicate. He first meets the Protagonist and Hariette on the border near Ys Artia, spending time playing with Hariette before his attendant, Clarissa, arrives and takes him away. Later on, he assumes his role as the Successor, the appearance of Elmir Weyland at his court quickly results in disaster and forces his attendant, Clarissa, to seek aid from Cuento in order to rescue him.

  • A Child Shall Lead Them: Compared to the teenage Hariette and Margareta, Florent is only 12 years old yet soon becomes the head of state halfway into Episode 5.
  • Adorably Precocious Child: Although he'd much rather play and make friends, Florent is able to carry himself with the dignity and responsibility suitable for the ruler of a country, even if he doesn't want to.
  • Children Are Innocent: Much more kind and innocent compared to the original Gemini. This is completely turned on its head when Elmir gets his hands on him and proceeds to corrupt him with the original Gemini's memories, resulting in Florent becoming the main threat of Chapter 5.
  • The Chosen One: Due to his incredible powers and reserves of mana, he was chosen to become the symbol of Ys Artia and one with the country itself.
  • Corrupt the Cutie: Elmir awakens his original memories as Florent form the Oracle universe, turning him back into Dark Falz Gemini.
  • Hates Being Alone: Thanks to his position as the First Successor, Florent has little to no friends and he hates this.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Desperate for friend as he's incredibly lonely thanks to his position.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: At heart, Florent wants nothing more to be a normal kid who's able to hang out with his friends all day and do nothing but play.
  • It Sucks to Be the Chosen One: He was chosen to be the Symbol of Ys Artia due to his prodigious reserves of mana and special powers over duplication. However, being groomed to become the Symbol meant that he had to be "pure" and free of all attachments so he could devote himself entirely to his country. This meant he was kept in a Gilded Cage where all of his needs were attended to except for his need for companionship. Even his guard, Clarissa, kept him at arm's length for this purpose.
  • Protectorate: Serves as one for Clarissa as it's her duty to protect Florent from any harm that comes his way.

    Clarissa Maintainer
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clarissa_pso2.png
Guard of the First Successor
Voiced by: Shizuka Itō (JP)

The Omega counterpart of Clarissa, the scientist whom Xion based the appearance of her human avatar on. She works as the bodyguard to Florent, keeping watch over him to ensure that he eventually fulfills his duty as the future successor of Ys Artia. After the incident in Epyk was resolved, Clarissa arrives before Hariette and the Guardian to seek their aid in saving Florent and Ys Artia from the machinations of Elmir Weyland.

  • Ambiguous Situation: It's not exactly clear what her relation is to the original Clarissa who appears to aid the Guardian after the replica disappears, whether it be Clarissa regaining her former sense of self or the original Oracle Clarissa appeared after the death of her Omega counterpart.
  • Dead All Along: The Clarissa that arrives in Cuento to seek the Protagonist's aid turns out to be a replica of the original who was killed by Florent after he was corrupted by Elmir.
  • Ms. Exposition: To the Protagonist and Xiera, for matters regarding Ys Artia in general, and Florent in particular. In particular, she's able to explain Florent's state of mind, which the Protagonist eventually finds suspicious, since she shouldn't be able to have such deep insight into that. There's a good reason for the Protagonist to be suspicious; it turns out she'd been consumed and recreated by Florent-as-Gemini, meaning she was only a replica of the original, and created at least in part from Florent's own psyche. How much of the original Clarissa remains in the recreation is open to question, but her own comments and doubts suggest that she does legitimately care for Florent beneath her programming.
  • The Stoic: Maintains a calm and collected demeanor like Xion did. This gets deconstructed however, as Clarissa's stoicism in regards to Florent's situation leads her to not doing much to try and mend his intense loneliness as she focuses on fulfilling her duty as his guard first.

Epyk

    Margareta
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/margareta_pso2.png
The Divine Queen of Epyk
Voiced by: Nao Tōyama (JP), Erika Harlacher (NA)

The Divine Queen of Epyk. Young and arrogant, yet caring towards her people. After hearing tales of the Guardian and their feats within the Kingdom of Cuento and Weyland Empire, Margareta begins to seek her own Guardian in a bid for glory. With the aid of a mysterious priest, she summons four individuals but they are quick to turn on her which forces the young queen to seek aid from the Kingdom of Cuento.

  • Alternate Self: As it turns out, she's actually the Omega counterpart of Apprentice. Notably, she's also much younger in appearance and character compared to her Oracle counterpart...and unlike with Omega's versions of Gettemhult, Luther, and Florent, she actually survives her possession, even after the Protagonist absorbs the essence of Apprentice.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Just before the climax of Episode 5, Margareta comes to Cuento's aid after Hariette is kidnapped by Elmir to resurrect the Profound Darkness. She and Alis are able to organize the evacuation of the country and leave the battlefield clear for the Guardian to take the fight to Elmir. Margareta also takes to the battlefield herself, drawing upon her patron god after convincing said god that there would be no one left to worship her if everyone died to Elmir's plans. Margareta's spunk and audacity convinces said god, Klariskrays the First, to step onto the battlefield herself to turn the tide.
  • Butt-Monkey: Margareta spends most of her spotlight chapter being the butt of every single joke, be it Xiera's and the protagonist's snark, having her own stupidity lampshaded by both friend and foe alike, and generally being a laughingstock in and out of her own kingdom.
  • Cleavage Window: Her dress has an opening that shows off her chest.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Margareta spends most of her chapter being The Load until she makes it back to her palace. Then she shows why she's the Divine Queen when she effortlessly kills Elmir with her magic before sending Euclyta and Aurora home. She explains that she can only use the powers granted to her by her country's patron god within the bounds of her palace. While she would have been perfectly safe inside because of it, she couldn't bear to watch her country suffer for her mistakes, hence reaching out to Cuento and the Guardian for aid.
  • Demoted to Extra: While she is lucky enough to stick around after her chapter, she gets very little attention after the fact. She does show up to help out during the final chapter and later tags along with the main party during the journey to Omega in EP6 but she doesn't do a whole lot besides that.
  • Don't Call Me "Sir": She quickly gets tired of Hariette calling her "Lady" as a sign of respect. After the events in Epyk, she insists Hariette simply call her "Margareta", as not only are they equals, but they're friends.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: No one gives her an ounce of respect besides Hariette, and even she gets exasperated with Margareta's antics toward the end of her arc. Even her citizens treat her more like a sister than the divine queen of the nation. Notably, she does demand respect in the heat of the moment, but never actually gets that bent out of shape about it - and it actually makes her fully aware of the intended treachery of her "priest" Elmir because he's the only person in the whole kingdom to shower her with pleasantries. Indeed, one of Margareta's main complaints is that the god of Epyk gets the lion's share of the credit for everything good that happens in their country.
  • Easily Forgiven: Despite nearly bringing her country to ruin by accidentally kidnapping four people from another world in hopes of living out her own heroic legend, things are the same as ever once the issue is resolved. Her people don't like her any more or less and remain as plucky and vitriolic as ever with her. Though, the protagonist and Hariette indulge in giving her a good knock on the head for her antics.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Xiera takes to calling her "Maggie" to purposefully disrespect her for her foolish antics throughout the story of Episode 5.
  • Faking the Dead: She seems to be dissolving into light like Gettemhult and Luther after they gave the Guardian the powers of Dark Falz. Then, when the Guardian is about to either get up in her face or slap her awake to stop this, she jumps up and says she was just pulling a prank. At this point, even Hariette becomes fed up with Margareta's insensitivity, taking the opportunity to clock her on the head along with the Guardian.
  • Foil:
    • Margareta is everything Hariette is not. Proud, haughty, a Large Ham, flighty, insensitive, irresponsible, and comically inept at times. She doesn't get respect in or out of her kingdom and generally causes more problems than she solves. Despite it all, she never doubts herself or denies reality as she sees it. She manages to watch over her people with a genuine smile and never suffers from feeling The Chains of Commanding despite the inhospitable conditions of Epyk because of her insistence that she smile for her people's sake. While Hariette becomes known as the Ice Queen for killing Luther and seemingly playing it off as no big deal, Margareta is always warm, cheerful, and honest with herself and others even when her own subjects are making fun of her.
    • Furthermore, while Hariette's handling of Luther's execution is treated with scorn among her own people, Margareta's execution of her own mother for similar (yet distinct) reasons seemingly hasn't changed the people's view of her much, likely because the execution was a result of a revelation from Epyk's god. It's likely that while the god does get a lot of credit for things going right in Epyk, its presence also shielded Margareta from potential scorn in this case.
  • Future Me Scares Me: Margareta astonished and horrified to learn that Apprentice was originally an alternate version of her... because she can't stand her fashion sense. Apprentice-Margareta rolls her eyes while informing Margareta that she'll look like her in a few years.
  • Genre Savvy: She's well aware of all of the tropes of a hero's story like The Power of Friendship, Sympathy for the Devil, and Serial Escalation, squealing with joy whenever she gets to invoke them (even if it doesn't apply).
  • Giver of Lame Names: She calls the newly united Omega "Epykuento" after Hariette hands all of Cuento's lands to her. Xiera scoffs at the unoriginal name, but Hariette says she quite likes it.
  • Glory Seeker: Is jealous of how the Kingdom of Cuento gets to have all the glory thanks to people like the Guardian and Sword Maiden, even fantasizing about what it would be like if she and Epyk had heroes of their own.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Wears her hair like this.
  • Hidden Depths: For all her bluster, Margareta does care for her country and realizes how poor a nation the land of Epyk is due to being situated in a desert. For this reason she keeps up a grand façade so as to inspire her people and keep morale up. Also, as Hariette notes, when things went awry with the summoning of the four Apprentice Emmisarries, Margareta could have remained safe in her palace, but Margareta cared too much for her kingdom, and instead directly sought help from outside to fix her mistake. She had also put a stop to her kingdom's creation of mind control potions by executing the one who had been responsible for authorizing it—her own mother.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Her desire to live out her fantasies as a theatric, storybook hero even while her country is in panic irritates the Guardian and Xiera while they're busy trying to save it. While talking to Hariette about Luther, Margareta says he must have had it coming if Hariette was willing to kill him for the sake of her kingdom, unaware of the fact that Luther's corruption came not from his experimentation but his Heroic Sacrifice to render the Crimson Fellwyrm beatable.
  • Irony: Calls out Apprentice on her looks and fashion sense, all this before it's revealed that Apprentice is in fact Margareta's Oracle dimension counterpart. In a sense, Margareta is calling her older self ugly.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Margareta is, in the words of her own subjects, "haughtiness personified". She can be petty, annoying, short-sighted, insensitive, and childish despite her regal title. Yet, at the end of all of this, she cares deeply for her people and those she considers her friends. She is also willing to execute her own mother for trying to use Ephemera to create a wicked mind control potion and quickly bans the flower from her lands.
  • Large Ham: Constantly acts like she is, or should be, the center of attention wherever she is. The camera often indulges her in this, constantly switching angles that she turns to face.
  • Motor Mouth: Once she gets going it can be hard for people to keep up with what she's saying. The Protagonist and company find this out the hard way when arrives in Cuento seeking their aid.
  • Never My Fault: Blames the Protagonist and Cuento for the trouble her country is in thanks to the Four Apprentices, never mind the fact that it was her desire to summon her own Guardian that help lead to the situation in the first place. Averted later on however as admits to being the one responsible and apologizes over it.
  • Non-Action Guy: She can't use any of her god's divine powers outside of her palace, meaning that she's essentially The Millstone for most of her chapter. But in the finale, she manages to convince Epyk's gods to grant her a little emergency divine power, letting her fight on the frontlines.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • When she realizes that she's about to be possessed by Apprentice, her haughty front shatters as she quietly asks the Guardian and Hariette to save her.
    • She has it again when even the divine powers given to her by her god fail to keep up with the massive Zerg Rush Elmir is siccing on her and the Guardian, leaving her at his mercy until her god, Klariskrays the First herself, comes to rescue them.
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: She freely calls her country's god an opportunist who only budges when there's something in it for them. No one really minds until said god, Klariskrays, comes down in-person to join the fight against Elmir. Margareta is somewhat sheepish about her comments from then on, at least until her ego against the best of her and she calls all of her comments true to Klariskray's face. Luckily for Margareta, Klariskrays is amused by Margareta's spunk, lack of forethought, and ability to be true to herself, so she postpones her smiting indefinitely.
  • Pals with Jesus: As the Divine Queen of Epyk, Margareta has the favor of her country's patron god and prays for favors every now and then to keep her country running as well as smite those who would defile it. After said god, Klariskrays the First, gives up her body to Hariette, one of the first things Margareta asks her to do is to smite Xiera for mocking her.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: After the dour events of Episode 5, Chapter 3, she and her kingdom serve as a Breather Episode. Her Large Ham and Genre Savvy tendencies make her plight laughable enough that Xiera is tempted to just look the other way rather than humor Margareta's short-sightedness, deliberately calling her "Maggie" rather than using her royal title. Despite the initially grave outlook of summoning four Apprentice Guardians to Epyk, the fights themselves are ridiculously easy compared to the battle with Luther as the Omega Falz Angel scantly a chapter before. It isn't until Margareta herself is possessed to turn her into a new Apprentice that things start to get serious... and immediately become comical again once she freaks out over the whole thing, to the point that Apprentice has to remind everyone that she's standing in the room.
  • The Pollyanna: She makes it a point to keep smiling no matter what happens to her, as the people will feel down if their queen feels down.
  • Proud Beauty: Has a certain amount of pride in her looks. When she gets possessed by Apprentice and transforms into her appearance, Margareta's appalled by the former's looks and fashion sense and more or less asks the Protagonist to take her down quickly so that she can return to normal.
  • Self-Made Orphan: She executed the previous ruler, her own mother, for dabbling with mind control potions derived from Ephemera. According to her, the wickedness of the potion was enough for Epyk's god to condemn her, and Margareta was the one to receive the revelation to carry out the deed.
  • Skewed Priorities: Margareta nearly brings her kingdom to ruin by allowing a priest to summon four beings from another world so she and the Guardian could go on an adventure together. Despite the severity of this, she manages to make retaking her kingdom almost into a game of sorts where she lives out her desired storybook dreams while the Guardian does all the heavy lifting.
  • Take Over the World: It was never Margareta's intention, but with Weyland dismantled, Ys Artia defunct, and Hariette bequeathing Cuento to her before becoming one with Omega itself, Margareta has essentially become the ruler of all of Omega as the queen of the united Magical Divine Kingdom of Epykuento.
  • Too Much Alike: After the Protagonist manages to free Aurora from her corruption, Aurora and Margareta end up getting into an argument with each other. Another character compares the conflict as "arguing into a mirror", and it's an indication that Margareta is the one who is fated to become Dark Falz Apprentice in Omega.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: When she fantasized about getting her own hero and adventure to create a legacy for her country, she wasn't actually expecting her "priest" to promptly kidnap four people and make them start attacking the country to get that adventure. Xiera refuses to let her live that down.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Margareta scoffs when she learns that Hariette is being called the "Ice Queen" in her own kingdom, describing Hariette as the warmest person she's ever met—an assessment the other citizens of Epyk fully agree with.
  • Young and in Charge: Is the same age as Hariette and like her is the ruling figure of her country. Unlike Hariette, Margareta can be childish and irresponsible in ways you'd expect from a girl her age, rarely carrying herself with the dignity of a queen despite being fully able to.
  • You Remind Me of X: Part of the reason why Klariskrays made Margareta the ruler of Epyk is because her lack of forethought, constant disregard for how people perceive her, and her sheer audacity and spunk all remind her of Alma.

The Apprentice Emissaries
After hearing tales of the otherworldly Guardian of Cuento and their feats of heroism, the Divine Queen Margareta begins to grow envious and seeks out a Guardian of her own. With the help of her newest priest, Margareta summons four individuals known as the Apprentice Emmisaries who quickly turn on her and take over the land of Epyk.

It's later revealed that the group is none other than the four former hosts of Dark Falz Apprentice: Euclyta, Aurora, Aika and Rina. Having been unwillingly whisked away from the Oracle and Earth dimensions, they were brainwashed into servitude by Elmir in his quest to restore the Profound Darkness.

  • Anticlimax Boss: The first don't really put up much of a fight. Dark Aika's boss fight is you against a Dark Emerappy, and while Dark Rina's boss fight is a somewhat tougher fight against a powered-up version of her PSO2 avatar, Dark Euclyta and Dark Aurora were notably portrayed as much more challenging (as a Cutscene Boss that is) to the point they were giving the Protagonist a run for their money, although a mere contact with your weapon purifies them of their corruption.
  • Chuunibyou: Much to the embarrassment of those summoned, they all act as edgy villains under the influence of Ephemera, complete with Red Baron titles that could only be found in the trashiest of fictions, such as "Aika the Misunderstood" or "Rina the Forsaken". Once purified, they ask you to never tell anyone else what happened.
  • Dark Is Evil: To complete the chuuni aspect of their characters, all four are dressed in darkened versions of their regular outfits.
  • Elite Four: A parody of the trope, complete with their own edgy sounding titles too.
  • Evil Is Petty: Dark Aika has a mild grudge against the Protagonist because of how Matoi would not shut up about them whenever she and Aika talked to each other.
  • Fail O Suckyname: All four of them have pretty poor sounding epithets, but Dark Aika takes the cake as her is "The Misunderstood". She's aware of the low quality of her moniker, but she notes the better titles were all taken.
  • Humongous Mecha: Rather than fight with Protagonist directly, Dark Rina summons an enlarged and darkened version of her PSO2 avatar, SORO.
  • Old Shame: In-universe, the group's stint as the Emissaries become this to each of them. Especially noteworthy with Aika and Rina, as neither of the two have any recollection of what happened but the experience left such a strong impression on them that they instinctively know they did something embarrassing and react accordingly.
  • Pieces of God: Being former hosts of Apprentice, the four of them were summoned by Elmir in attempt to collect her F-Factors. Once all four are defeated, the F-Factors converges into Margareta after being trapped by Elmir, reforming the original Dark Falz Apprentice.
  • The Unfought: Dark Aika and Dark Rina are never actually fought, only their summons are. Dark Euclyta and Dark Aurora are a different story however as the Protagonist actually does fight them but only in a cutscene.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: The Protagonist accidentally purifies Dark Aurora of her corruption when Dark Euclyta tries to use Dark Aurora to parry a strike from the Protagonist's weapon. After a few seconds where everyone present puzzles out what just happened, the Protagonist smacks Dark Euclyta with their weapon, which purifies her as well.
