    In General
  • Connected All Along: In the Exhibition CD dramas, all 4 teams are heavily implied to be connected to the Phantometal research group Alter Trigger:
    • The Yeon conglomerate, whom disowned Hajun from BAE, is a sponsor for Alter Trigger, as is the Suiseki group, owners of Bar Candy, where Anne, Iori and Zen work.
    • Alter Trigger tried to buy the land that Bar 4/7, Saimon's bar, is on.
    • Nayuta from cozmez is heavily implied to have signed up for their experiments, and the same may be true for Ryu.
    • This is lampshaded by Zen, who thinks that the 4 groups came together not by coincidence, but because of their implied connections to Alter Trigger.
    • On a lighter note, BAE attends Saimon's lectures at university while Shiki, Hokusai, Satsuki and Reo go to the same school, though Shiki notes that he rarely sees the other 3 due to them attending at night compared to him studying in the daytime.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: All of them, which forms the basis of their trauma which they have to relive during their trap reactions.
  • Only in It for the Money: The motives for cozmez and The Cat's Whiskers for winning Paradox Live; The Cat's Whiskers to buy the land from Alter Trigger and save their bar from closing, cozmez to buy a permanent home and seek better medical treatment for Nayuta.
  • Trauma Button: Each and every one (with the exception of Ryu, Chisei and maybe Nayuta too) has one - barely mentioning it or going into proximity of the place where said button is located makes them frantic. They also form the basis of the trap reaction that is the side effect of using Phantometal.
(Work in Progress)

Tropes applying to the whole group

Formed in a international private university, BAE is a diverse trio that lives for freedom and honesty. Their strong image is emphasized by their trendy hip-hop songs, experimenting with many genres to create a wholly unique sound.

    Allen Sugasano (MC Name: Suzaku)
Voiced by: Gakuto Kajiwara
  • Berserk Button: Insult hip-hop and rap to his face and he'll get pissed.
  • Book Dumb: Certain tweets reveal that he has difficulties in class.
  • But Not Too Foreign: Is quarter-Russian.
  • Butt-Monkey: The go-to guy for BAE-related humour, especially when his teammates tease him.
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: He got really wasted on champagne during the BAE Christmas party according to Anne on twitter.
  • Elegant Classical Musician: His family are these; his mother is an opera singer while his father is a pianist. However, he doesn't want to follow in his family's footsteps and after falling out with them when they disapprove of his music tastes, he runs away from home.
  • Otaku: For hip-hop and rap. Talk to him about hip-hop and rap music and he can go on for hours. Unfortunately, his parents doesn't approve of it which leads to a massive rift between him and his family.
  • Tsundere: Is described as such.

    Yeon Hajun (MC Name: 48)
Voiced by: Ayumu Murase
  • Berserk Button: If you want to live another day, don't call him an 'unneeded child'. It's what his parents told him when they sent him to live in Japan and forms the basis of his trap reaction.
  • A Day in the Limelight: The VIBES Drama focuses on him and his trauma.
  • The Gadfly: Especially loves to tease Allen.
  • Happily Adopted: He was adopted by a loving couple who seeked to groom him to eventually inherit the Yeon conglomerate... until his surrogate mother gave birth to a baby boy who would eventually inherit the conglomerate naturally and he got disowned as a result.
  • I Have No Son!: He was disowned by the Yeon conglomerate, so he's seeking to topple them in turn.
  • Precision F-Strike: Drops an F-bomb in his solo verse in AmBitious!!!, BAE's song used in the match against cozmez.
  • Sadist: His character hashtags and profile reveals that his true personality is this.
  • Supreme Chef: He's the one who cooks for BAE since Anne's a Lethal Chef and Allen's too obsessed with his music to cook. And it's really good too according to them.
  • Surprisingly Good Foreign Language: To emphasize his Korean roots, his verses will have some Korean in them. And the pronunciation and grammar is spot on.

    Anne Faulkner (MC Name: AnZ)
Voiced by: 96Neko
  • Abusive Parents: Anne was forcibly separated by their mother, and from their lines in BAE's drama track in Opening Live, she's a case of this.
  • Ambiguous Gender: Doesn't refer to themselves as either male or female. As they put it in BaNG!!: "Fuck the border line".
  • But Not Too Foreign: Is part-British.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: They have a feminine sense of style and attitude, but they don't define themselves in a set gender.
  • The Fashionista: Fashion is one of their passions and is considered to be one of the best-dressed in the group.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Anne is normally a name used for girls.
  • Lethal Chef: According to their profile.
  • Precision F-Strike: Tends to drop the F-bomb in certain songs, unless Hajun already said it.

The Cat's Whiskers

Tropes applying to the whole group

Working at the popular jazz bar 'Bar 4/7', The Cat's Whiskers combine four independent personalities in harmony. Lo-fi and jazz dominate their songs, being rather elegant despite their chaotic combination.

    Saimon Naoakira (MC Name: Kotonoha)
Voiced by: Ryota Takeuchi
  • Badass Baritone: Has one of the, if not the deepest voice among the cast.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Will NOT abandon anyone in need - the rest of The Cat's Whiskers were 'picked up' by him.
  • Cool Teacher: His day job while not working at the bar is that of a linguistics professor - it's even revealed that BAE attends his lectures in college. Combined with the fact that he raps and you've got an impressive teacher.
  • The Dandy: Dresses in a nice suit most of the time.
  • The Lost Lenore: His wife passed away before the events of the series and her death is implied to be the cause of his trauma.

Yohei Kanbayashi (MC Name: God summer)
Voiced by: Yu Hayashi
  • Good Cop/Bad Cop: He had this dynamic with Zen back when both of them worked at Bar Candy as bouncers. Yohei was the 'bad cop'.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite looking rough, he went to find Shiki after he didn't return to the bar at his usual time.
  • Smoking Is Cool: Often seen with a cigarette in his mouth.

Ryu Natsume (MC Name: Compra Daimaou)
Voiced by: Natsuki Hanae
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: His mind... is pretty out there.
  • Dissonant Serenity: In the Paradox Live 1st Album "TRAP" cover art, Nayuta and Ryu are notably the only people not in pain over going through their trap reactions. While Ryu is the sole character immune to trap reactions, he's noticeably not smiling; one of the few times he has a serious expression.
  • Doesn't Know Their Own Birthday: He states in his profile that he doesn't know when his is, so he puts down April 1st for the time being.
  • The Hyena: Befitting his Manchild personality, he laughs quite a bit at inappropriate times.
  • Manchild: He loves laughing whenever possible and has a very childish outlook on the world, never acting too seriously compared to most of the cast.
  • Mood-Swinger: Tends to change his moods whenever he feels like it.
  • No-Sell: Ryu is the only character who doesn't suffer trap reactions no matter how much he uses his Phantometal. However, it's never explained why.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: To pretty much everyone. Especially Shiki.
  • Odd Friendship: Believe it or not, Hokusai and Shiki get along well with him.
  • Vague Age: Even Ryu himself has no clue how old he is.
  • Wistful Amnesia: The only things Ryu remembers about his past when asked by someone is of him playing with people in a white room. Other than that his head is all over the place.

    Shiki Ando (MC Name: Nanashi)
Voiced by: Junta Terashima
  • The Atoner: Shiki's Phantometal resembles a cross due to his desire to atone for Nayuta's death 2 years ago.
  • Butt-Monkey: Often on the receiving end of Ryuu's antics.
  • A Day in the Limelight: The LOVE drama focuses on his backstory especially.
  • The Eeyore: He's a world-weary person who's rarely happy. Later albums reveal that he is getting better thanks to his interactions with the rest of The Cat's Whiskers and, to a lesser extent, Reo, Satsuki and Hokusai of Akan Yatsura.
  • It's All My Fault: Shiki was the last person to see Nayuta the day he fell ill from the Phantometal experiments, and up till this day believes that he let Nayuta die. It's most likely the trauma he experiences during trap reactions.
  • Noodle Incident: Shiki's afraid of cozmez for some reason, but it's never elaborated on why. It's eventually revealed that Shiki used to be friends with Nayuta and his Guilt Complex from being unable to save him from falling off a rooftop was the cause of his trauma that he has to relive during the trap reaction.
  • Odd Friendship: Despite being victim to Ryuu's shenanigans most of the time, the both of them get along very well.
  • We Used to Be Friends: The drama from Love reveals that Shiki and Nayuta were friends 2 years prior to the events of Paradox Live and hung out in a secret spot in the slums together. However, one day after Nayuta was scarred from Phantometal experiments, he went to Shiki to return him a record, and then threw himself off a building. This traumatized Shiki leading to his Guilt Complex, but while Nayuta survived, he lost his memories and by the time the two met again Nayuta became hostile to Shiki and doesn't remember him anymore.

    Tropes applying to the group

Orphaned during their youth, he Yatonokami twins rely fully on each other to get through the hardships of the world, entering stage battles to earn money. cozmez's synth-pop songs heavily contrasts moody, compelling lyrics spun from their past.

  • Conveniently an Orphan: No one knows where their parents are.
  • Darker and Edgier: cozmez's songs are usually more pessimistic and cynical compared to the other teams, but Ain't No Love takes the cake, fully describing the twins' Dark and Troubled Past and, compared to The Cat Whiskers' Mercy on Me, a whole lot more depressing. You know the song's contents are serious when it's the only song to have a trigger warning on the wiki.
    • Lighter and Softer: On the other hand, their Exhibition songs are more optimistic than their usual fare.
  • The Dreaded: Shiki is deathly afraid of them to the point where he faints at the mere mention of them.
  • Image Song: Where They At
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Kanata is the hot-blooded Red Oni while Nayuta is the calmer Blue Oni.
  • Real Name as an Alias: Their MC names are the same as their real names.

     Kanata Yatonokami (MC Name: KANATA)
Voiced by: Yuusuke Kobayashi
  • Believing Their Own Lies: Kanata insists that Nayuta's alive and with him, despite a few giveaways such as the plate of gyoza at Ramentei being left untouched despite Nayuta having eaten it. Turns out, the Nayuta during the rap battles wasn't the real Nayuta; he was an illusion made by Kanata after the incident 2 years ago. Kanata, too traumatized by Nayuta's supposed death, suppressed his memories and made the illusion with his Phantometal in the hopes that Nayuta would still be alive.
  • Berserk Button: Lord help you if you even go near Nayuta, even if it's not for hostile reasons.
  • Big Brother Instinct: For him, Nayuta is his no. 1 priority.
  • Despair Event Horizon: After the truth behind Nayuta was revealed, Kanata fell into this; giving back his earnings in the rap battles and declined the match with Buraikkan, intending to disband cozmez now that he had nothing to live for after Nayuta's death. After Nayuta comes back alive and well though, Kanata bounced back.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite being lethargic most of the time, he still believes in Santa Claus as indicated by his character hashtags.

     Nayuta Yatonokami (MC Name: NAYUTA)
Voiced by: Toshiyuki Toyonaga
  • Dissonant Serenity: In the Paradox Live 1st Album "TRAP" cover art, Nayuta and Ryuu are notably the only people not in pain over going through their trap reactions. In Nayuta's case, he's smiling as he falls from certain heights.
  • Driven to Suicide: He attempted to take his life 2 years ago after the Phantometal experiments destroyed his arm. He survived, but lost his memories, including those of Shiki, his old friend.
  • He's Back: Just when Shiki and Kanata believe that Nayuta really died 2 years ago, he shows up alive and well in the Live drama and it's revealed that he was being treated at a research facility run by Alter Trigger during the Club Paradox rap battles while Kanata performed alone with an illusion of him.
  • Ill Boy: Is sickly, so Kanata has to take care of him. He comes back during the events of the Live album drama where it's revealed that he was actually in the hospital during the duration of the main events of Paradox Live, and the Nayuta that was performing in the battle stages was an illusion made by Kanata.
  • Morality Pet: Is this to Kanata; during the drama tracks for Desire, after finding out that Kanata stole Allen's Phantometal, he asked him to return it.
  • The Quiet One: Not exactly one to talk. He was way more talkative in Shiki's flashbacks, and a lot more sociable too.
  • Walking Spoiler: If you're reading this without knowledge of the events that take place during the LIVE drama section, you've been warned...
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: His profile states that he's weak against the rain.

Akan Yatsura

    Tropes applying to the group

Formed from the ashes of a yakuza group, Akan Yatsura is a team of five people who's unity transcends all else. The group create exciting songs with diverse rap styles that draw from a number of genres to get the audience involved.

     Iori Suiseki (MC Name: Kashira)
Voiced by: Takayuki Kondo
  • A Father to His Men: Views Akan Yatsura as an actual family instead of being just a Yakuza gang, and it's clear that the feeling's mutual with the rest of the team.
  • The Bartender: He owns Bar CANDY, where Anne works part-time.
  • The Leader: Of Akan Yatsura, both as an Yakuza gang and as a rap group.

     Zen Gaho (MC Name: Gazen)
Voiced by: SHIMA

Masaki Hokusai (MC Name: Fuurai BOY)
Voiced by: Shun'ichi Toki
  • Friendless Background: Because his father's a convicted criminal, almost everyone refuses to be associated with him. This forms the basis of Hokusai's trauma and is the reason why he prefers cats to people.
  • In the Hood
  • Introverted Cat Person: Loves playing with street cats and is never seen without at least one. Heck, his verse in "Rap Guerrilla" is literally just going on about how cute cats are.
  • Odd Friendship: He and Ryuu are strolling buddies.
  • The Quiet One

     Satsuki Ito (MC Name: Gaia)
Voiced by: Tasuku Hatanaka

     Reo Maruyama (MC Name: Reo-kun)
Voiced by: Shogo Yano

    Tropes applying to the group
A legendary hip-hop duo, Buraikkan are particularly known for founding the Phantom Lives before disappearing 10 years ago; their influence still being felt through the Phantom Lives of today.
  • Gold-Colored Superiority: A fitting colour for the world's best rap team, is it not?
  • He's Just Hiding!: In-Universe, their disappearance turned out to be this; Shingu opened up Ramentei which some of the characters frequent; in the meantime, Chisei was working behind the scenes to rescue Nayuta from Alter Ego.
  • Image Song: The aptly-titled "BURAIKAN is Back".
  • Living Legend: The most famous rap group in the series until their disappearance sometime before the events of Paradox Live.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Purple is part of their colour scheme and they're a pro rap group.
  • Soprano and Gravel: Chisei's smooth, slightly boyish timbre compliments Haruomi's husky, rough style.

     Chisei Kuzuryu (MC Name: Yasha)
Voiced by: Kensho Ono
  • No-Sell: He can use his Phantometal to create powerful illusions and VFX without suffering the drawbacks.
  • Trauma Button: One of the hardest aversions within the franchise. His profile states that he doesn't have a trauma or even any weaknesses, allowing him to use Phantometal without any of the drawbacks. Unlike Ryu (who's just plain out there) and Nayuta (who suffers from amnesia thanks to his Dark and Troubled Past), Chisei is relatively stable.

     Haruomi Shingu (MC Name: Shura)
Voiced by: Junichi Suwabe
  • Badass Baritone: Has one of the deepest voices amongst the cast (only losing out to Naoakira) and is a skilled track maker and rapper in his own right.
  • Disappeared Dad: His trauma derives from his father's suicide.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: He's the only one who knew about the true circumstances of cozmez, though he never said anything about it.
  • Supreme Chef: His character hashtags indicate that his cooking is as good as his rapping.

How well does it match the trope?
