Humans! Snack Time!
Click here to see the Void King's true form.
The guardian entity of Sound Lake, the first field the tournament passes through. He is the Principal's pet.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Tall as a building, and hostile to humans.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Returns in chapter 96 where a flashback shows him helping Isabella, Xiang Ye, and three other victims of the Tols siblings return to the human capital city.
  • Combat Tentacles: The "beard" of tentacles can grab, attack, drill, and do just about anything to human-sized opponents.
  • Happiness in Slavery: It has an owner, which it obeys happily. It is Vasily Andre, the school's principal.
  • I Am a Humanitarian: It makes its first appearance trying to eat one of the members of the CQC class that tried to swim across the lake as part of the tournament.
  • Make Me Wanna Shout: When the Combat Tentacles won't do it, it can emit a loud screech to immobilize its prey.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Angry at Xiang Ye for shooting it into submission, it lashes out at the chef class student swimming up to it. This does not go as planned.
  • Punched Across the Room: Amazingly. In Kaiju form, Rennes uses a water-spout to send it flying into the sky.
  • Shapeshifter Baggage: Can go from something the size of a building, to something about the size of a child and back again without explanation.
  • Snot Bubble: He shows a snot bubble as he sleeps next to the Principal.
  • Turns Red: When pissed off, it changes to red in color, its tentacles get harder and sharper, and overall it becomes much more dangerous.
  • Underestimating Badassery: When the chef student shows up, it mocks him and his Vocal Dissonance. The off-screen consequences are not pretty.
  • You Can Talk?: Xiang Ye stops shooting at him after hearing him surrender.

     The Queen of Thorns

Fucking humans!
The guardian of the Forest field during the first half of the tournament and Isabella's childhood pet. She later joins Isabella, as promised, and is carried by her as a pocket monster.
  • Affectionate Nickname: In chapters 212 and 213, Xiang Ye calls her "Little Vine" and she apparently likes it. This also appears to be the name given her by Isabella.
  • An Arm and a Leg: The forging class's newly minted machine gun brigade manages to blast off one of her arms with concentrated small machine-gun fire. Aside from distracting her from the rest of Xiang Ye's group, it doesn't do much.
  • Body Backup Drive: In a forest, killing her body doesn't help, she just manifests a new body out of nearby foliage.
  • Cassandra Truth: Inverted. Xiang Ye and his group repeatedly protest their innocence against her claims that they started the forest fire she's rightfully angered by, but she's too enraged to believe them.
  • Childhood Friend: Of Isabella, as her pet.
  • Dark Is Evil: Wears black and is very hostile to humans, regardless of whether they deserve it or not. Later subverted.
  • Equippable Ally: She can take on the form of a bracelet Isabella wears. How Isabella was able to pick her up, as promised, and without Xiang Ye noticing, has yet to be revealed.
  • Fantastic Racism: She hates humans, as a whole. The reason has yet to be explained, at least fully.
  • Green Thumb: She controls plants and can manifest in any plant she desires.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: Throws General and Moss Feili to Eli.
  • Happiness in Slavery: She used to be Isabella's pet when the two of them were children, and was very, very happy.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Went from an antagonist in the first half of the tournament to a valued ally, actively supporting Isabella and Xiang Ye.
  • Humans Are Insects: In chapter 70, she calls Xiang Ye's entire group "a bunch of insects" before she starts grabbing them with thorny vines, until the forging class attacks her with focused light machine gun fire, to the shock of most of the other students, and herself.
  • Luminescent Blush: Sports these whenever she's happy to serve Isabella, which is often.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Invoked and Justified. All she knew was that humans started a forest fire, because that's what her minions told her, so she attacks the first group of humans she runs across, who happen to be entirely innocent, but she doesn't believe them.
  • Recognition Failure: Justified. She was too angry to think straight, it was the heat of battle, and Isabella not only looked entirely human, but was in a crowd of humans. When they've both had a chance to calm down and talk things out, she remembered her past as Isabella's pet and was genuinely touched that Isabella came to check up on her, in person.
    • It's also inverted in that Isabella didn't initially recognize her either, but then remembered who she was and why she was there in chapter 71.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Glowing red eyes and very, very dangerous.
  • Shoo the Dog: On the receiving end. Isabella planted her in a barren plain, so she could live, because demon territory mana was too much for her, when they were both children. The Queen of Thorns has not forgotten this favor.
  • Snake Person: Lower-half of a snake, upper half of a human.
  • Tears of Joy: Once she recognizes Isabella, this is the result.
  • Tentacle Rope: Restrains Eli, Isabella, and the other combat students with her roots.
  • Undying Loyalty: She's loved Isabella ever since she was a tiny sapling, and when they're reunited in the present, sheds tears of joy at their reunion.
    • She also gets this from her minions, who will happily shield her with their lives, if need be.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Child: She was the very definition of "adorable" as a little sapling.
