    Hanawa the Courier

Hanawa the Courier

A top-ranked spy who specializes in delivering "merchandise", be it drugs, weaponry, or even people. He kidnaps Taiyo to get to Mutsumi for an unknown benefactor, provoking the Yozakuras in the process.

  • Break Them by Talking: He attempts this against Taiyo, telling him that by disrupting his supply lines, he's preventing wonder drugs from reaching patients, weapons that could save a revolution from reaching the rebels, and ransom that would save a hostage's life from reaching their captors. Taiyo instead gives him a Shut Up, Hannibal! before punching him in the face.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: His first one against Taiyo is one, easily defeating the young spy without any effort before threatening to break his limbs.
  • Faux Affably Evil: He never drops his polite veneer, but beneath it is a man who cares little for human lives beyond keeping them in good condition for sale.
  • Flower Motif: He gardens as a hobby and his operations use a flowery delivery service as a front. He also makes frequent use of flower-based metaphors and wields gardening shears as a weapon.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: Hanawa's spectacles and gentle face belie a man who sees people as nothing more than merchandise to be sold.
  • "It" Is Dehumanizing: He refers to everything he's transporting as "merchandise", whether it's guns or people. He tells Mutsumi to sit down and be obedient merchandise rather than respecting her as a person.
  • Nerves of Steel: Even when he has the entire Yozakura family on his tail, he never loses his composure for a second.
  • Poisoned Weapon: His shears are coated in poison derived form the extract of flowers such as water lilies, azaleas, and red spider lilies that paralyze those cut by them. Even Taiyo succumbs to it during their fight despite his Acquired Poison Immunity.
  • Shear Menace: His preferred weapon is a pair of high-quality gardening shears. They're razor-sharp and incredibly versatile, as they can be used for everything from gouging out eyes, snipping off fingers, and even jamming the guns of his opponents. However, since they're held together by a screw, they can be potentially neutralized if someone were to bind them and pick the bolt to forcibly separate them.
  • Starter Villain: Taiyo's growing confidence in his abilities is shaken when he's easily defeated by Hanawa in hand-to-hand combat, prompting Kyoichiro to take him on a mission to force him to rapidly learn through muscle memory.

    Asuka Hatoda

Asuka Hatoda

The president of Popoppo, a global toy company that is secretly is a criminal consulting firm. One of Mutsumi's stalkers.

  • Bait-and-Switch: He's implied to have planted Katai at Taiyo and Mutsumi's school solely to get a chance to observe them and have Hanawa the Courier abduct Mutsumi for him.
  • Entitled to Have You: In his mind, since he has everything else (money, power and status), he just needs the Yozakura family's talents. Therefore, Mutsumi must be his bride. Taiyo is not pleased by this in the slightest.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: He creates all of his own technology, hiding deadly implements inside common household toys and items like sneakers.
  • Hypocrite: Despite using his many gadgets and bribery to win all his of the athletic matches against Taiyo that he clearly stood no chance of winning in a fair match, when Taiyo successfully catches his superpowered soccer kick with just his bare hands, he throws a tantrum accusing Taiyo of using a dirty trick.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After cheating and bribing his way to nearly winning an athletic showdown against Taiyo, his superpowered shoes he used to cheat malfunction during his tantrum, kicking himself in the face and breaking his leg. Then he gets news while recovering that his company's stock is going rapidly down.
  • Teen Genius: A teenage president of a global toy company and criminal consulting firm.
  • The Man Behind the Man: He's the one responsible for sending Hanawa and the Flower Bin after Mutsumi, as well as providing resources for the various organizations the family targeted in previous chapters.
  • Stalker with a Crush: He's very determined to marry Mutsumi for her Superpowerful Genetics to where Mutsumi admits she partly neglected mentioning him before to Taiyo because he's just that creepy. Her nonchalant ignoring of him makes it clear she has no patience for him in the slightest. He quickly gains Taiyo's ire mere minutes after meeting him and Kyoichiro clearly despises the man, only making a fake agreement to him to get rid of Taiyo for him with the full intention to eliminate Hatoda afterward.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: His organization's front as a popular toymaking company makes him both famous and beloved among the general public. He also tends to give out bribes to appear "generous", only adding to his popularity.

    Yoshimasa Kuroyuri/Kurogao

Yoshimasa Kuroyuri/Kurogao

Click here to see him as Kurogao

A flamboyant politician running as a candidate for his own party. Taiyo is sent to observe him in disguise to dig up evidence of Kuroyuri's illicit activities. In truth, he's Kurogao, a legendary spy thought long dead who is using his activities as a cover for an even more mysterious goal.

  • Affably Evil: Although he's willing to kill Taiyo without remorse, Kurogao is truly fond of him and gives Taiyo a chance to walk away unharmed because he sees him as a kindred spirit since both of their families were murdered by mysterious organizations.
  • Black Eyes of Evil: His sclera underneath his glasses are black, showing his ruthlessness on the job and his devotion to his mission to assassinate his political rivals.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Having studied all of Taiyo's moves, Kurogao is rightfully confident in his ability to beat him and initially dominates their fight. However, he's beaten when Taiyo suddenly uses the Hinagiku's Stepping on Flowers to throw him off-guard, making Kurogao lose his cool enough for Taiyo to disarm and pin him down.
  • Everyone Knows Morse Code: His strange dancing and movements are actually Morse code for him to discreetly communicate his shadier dealings with his subordinates.
  • Fake Assassination: He orchestrates one at one of his political rallies to drive his already stellar approval ratings through the roof.
  • Final Speech: Manages to cough this out to Taiyo even after being shot in the throat.
Kurogao: As someone... who gave up... on... every... thing... I... was destined... to end... this... way... You... refused... to give up... and... chose to... struggle relentlessly... You did good! Keep going forward fearlessly!
  • Flower Motif: "Kuroyuri" refers to the Calla Lily, a flower associated with resurrection and rebirth, referring to how Kurogao reinvented himself as Kuroyuri after his daughter, Yuri, died in a failed assassination attempt on him.
  • Funny Afro: He wears one as part of his ridiculous Kuroyuri persona, emphasizing his weird and funny image to the public that also makes him non-threatening. It was also part of the outfit he wore to his daughter's last birthday in an attempt to make her laugh before she was murdered.
  • Go Out with a Smile: He's perfectly calm as he dies, commending Taiyo for his efforts and pointing him towards a hint towards the true circumstances behind the death of Taiyo's family.
  • Graceful Loser: Kurogao is impressed by Taiyo and accepts his defeat with grace, preparing himself to tell Taiyo everything he knows before he's shot in the throat. Even then, he's still able to leave Taiyo with an optical memory storage to help him find the truth.
  • Having a Blast: He attempts to assassinate multiple politicians with a special bomb designed to not leave any evidence.
  • In-Series Nickname: As Kuroyuri, he's known as the "Dancing Politician" for his strange tendency to dance in the middle of his political rallies.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: He's just about to tell Taiyo everything about the true nature of his family's death when he's shot through the throat seemingly out of nowhere in a sealed room. Despite this, Kurogao is still able to cough up some last words of encouragement before finally dying, leaving behind a clue for Taiyo to help him find the truth.
  • Knight of Cerebus: His flamboyant ensemble at first marks him as yet another fairly silly character for the protagonists to have more wacky spy shenanigans against. However, he ends up being one of the most serious enemies the main characters face yet, giving out a Wham Line that kickstarts the series' Myth Arc as well.
  • Master of Disguise: Discussed. While his disguise isn't nearly as elaborate as the Instant Costume Change used by Kengo, it's more than enough to fool all but the most well-informed spies and politicians about his identity and true goals. He explains that a disguise needs to fool the heart as much as the eyes, and the persona he put on was a calculated attempt to throw off any suspicion that Kurogao might still be alive.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: He says he's this to Taiyo as both of their families were murdered by mysterious organizations. Taiyo is shaken by this, as he admits that he might have done the same if he were in Kurogao's position facing his family's murderer.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: He's outrageously flamboyant in his Kuroyuri persona, which makes his illegal activities, like faking his own assassination, framing others for crimes they didn't commit, buying up illegal stock, and poisoning his rivals even more jarring. And even this is merely a cover for his true goal: avenging his daughter by killing all the people associated with the assassination attempt on him that killed her.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Everything he's done up to the present is merely a cover for his goal of killing every single person responsible for the death of his daughter.
  • Shadow Archetype: To Taiyo. Both of them lack any particularly special talents, making up for it with sheer determination and control of information to learn and get the drop on their foes.
  • Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids!: He calls Taiyo naive for not wanting anyone to die, as death is an inevitability of their line of work. Kurogao goes on to say that there's nothing he can change about painful reality.
  • Wham Line: He drops the single largest swerve in the series up to that point when he tells Taiyo that his family's death wasn't an accident.
Kuroyuri: How unfortunate that... you believe it was all an accident.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: His former clients attempted this on him with a bomb which killed his daugther, causing him to go underground before reemerging as Kuroyuri.
