Minor Characters

Characters who get supporting role for one chapter.

The Element of Courage

    Donut Joe
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/large_99.png
A restaurant owner in Canterlot.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • Flash Sentry and Donut Joe have never interacted with each other in canon. In this series, they initially have a hostile relationship, since Flash steals his donuts.
    • He and Twilight Sparkle have a closer relationship, as they knew each other ever since Twilight was young and even refer to one another on a first-name basis.

Season 1

    Rumble
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Rumble_by_DantonDamnark_8489.png
A colt who is friends with Button Mash.
  • Actor Allusion: He can perfectly mimic Flash Sentry's voice, a nod to how both characters are voiced by Vincent Tong.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: He shows no hints of resentment towards Cutie Marks and starts out amicably with the Cutie Mark Crusaders, unlike his appearance in "Marks and Recreation."
  • Ascended Extra: He previously only made cameos in this series, before getting a major role in "The Heart and Soul of Ponyville."
  • Comical Overreacting: When Fire Heart claims to have never eaten pizza, Rumble faints out of disbelief and shock.
  • Hero-Worshipper: Implied to have one towards Flash Sentry, as he's most invested in asking questions about Flash Sentry and even being able to mimic his voice.
  • Voice Changeling: He can do a spot-on voice impression of Flash Sentry. Even Fire Heart is impressed by it.

    Button Mash
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_0683.jpeg
A colt who is friends with Rumble.
  • Ascended Extra:
    • Just like in Button's Adventures, Button's personality gets fleshed out here, whereas he had zero characterization in canon.
    • Even within this series, he was largely relegated to cameos, until he got a supporting role in "The Heart and Soul of Ponyville."
  • Noodle Incident: Apparently, Button's Straw Misogynist attitude stems from an incident where Sweetie Belle distracted him and caused him to get a game over, wasting six hours of his life.
  • Straw Misogynist: He believes that girls ruin video games.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Pizza. So much so, that he has a mild meltdown when Fire Heart claims to have never eaten one.

    Snips and Snails
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/snipssnails_6318.jpg
A pair of dimwitted colts who frequently get into trouble.
  • Ascended Extra: Both are generally relegated to cameos in this series, but they eventually got a supporting role in "Slice of Life."
  • Butt-Monkey: Virtually nothing goes right for them.
    • They try to help Flash and his friends ward off a bugbear that is attacking Ponyville. However, their efforts are feeble at best and end up going mostly ignored anyways.
    • Snips tries to dare Snails into stealing as many apples from Sweet Apple Acres, only for them to be scared off by Rogue.
  • Demoted to Extra: In this series' version of "Boast Busters," both are warned from luring an Ursa Major to Ponyville, which they obey and thus play less of a role in that chapter.

    Fancy Pants
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fancy_pants_by_mattyhex_d5j0yhp.png
A wealthy and prestigious unicorn who lives in Canterlot.
  • Adaptational Badass: The canon Fancy Pants had practically demonstrated zero fighting prowess, but when Lightning hosts "The Battle of Canterlot" and forces everyone in the city to fight, Fancy demonstrates his fighting prowess through his magic. He even proces skilled enough to defeat a guard.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: In "Princess Spike", Fancy Pants is still outraged by the blunders committed by Spike in Twilight's name, but unlike the canon episode, he is more quickly calmed down by Flash and immediately apologizes to Twilight for his actions when they first meet.
  • Everyone Has Standards: While he admits to fearing that Flurry heart could turn evil, he's horrified to learn that Hard Sell tried to stab her out of this paraonoia, telling him that letting her become a princess is a necessary risk to recognize her full potential. As he puts it, if no risk is ever taken, then Equestria will stagnate.
  • Happily Married: It's mentioned that Fancy Pants has his wife and while she is unmentioned, it's implied to be Fleur De Lis.
  • Politically Incorrect Hero: When he learns that Ruby teamed up with Hiveena to find the culprit who tried to kidnap Flurry Heart, Fancy questions if it was wise to bring Hiveena, implying that he harbors prejudice against changelings.

Season 2

    Dusty Flower
A filly from Appleloosa who seemingly befriended a fox named Tricky. Unfortunately, there's more to Tricky than it seems...
  • Big Bad Friend: Her friend, Tricky? He's actually Shade and she's being mind controlled by him.
  • Brainwashed: It's quickly revealed that she's been mind controlled by Shade into becoming his "friend" and used to lure Springer into a trap.
  • Cheerful Child: Both during and after being brainwashed, Dusty acts extremely joyful, particularly when meeting Springer and thanking him for saving the day.
  • Innocent Bystander: She has nothing to do with the rivalry between Springer and Shade, but the latter uses her as a hostage to get Springer into a fight, lest she be killed.

Season 3

    Great Taste, Salt, and Pepper
A family who live in Omniara.
  • The Bus Came Back: They make a brief cameo appearance in "Amber Alert."
  • Disappeared Dad: Great Taste gets kidnapped by Doom Raizer, leaving Sald and Pepper by themselves. Thankfully, the Royal Knights free Taste and reunite him with his children.
  • Old Friend: They were friends with Skybreaker and Tidal Wave.
  • Supreme Chef: All of them can cook exceptional dishes, even with basic ingredients. This comes in handy when they serve rations to the ponies who were rescued by the Royal Knights.

Season 4

    Daring Do
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/daring_do_3961.png
The main protagonist of Rainbow Dash's favorite book series, where it's later revealed that her adventures are real and that she's the series' author, A.K. Yearling.
  • Because I Said So: She confides to Flash that she can never trust anyone. When Flash points out that she contradicts her own philosophy by trusting his parents, Daring Do can only retort "That's different."
  • Everyone Has Standards: She likes working alone, but she realizes that Flash Sentry, as a Royal Knight, can aid her and isn't stubbon enough to deny his help.
  • Old Friend: She's been acquainted with Trail Blazer and Misty Veil in the past. This allows her to recognize Flash Sentry and realize that he's their son.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite being harsh to the Mane Seven, she allows Flash Sentry to accompany her in stopping Caballeron.

    Walking Tour
The curator of the Fillydelphia Museum of Art.
  • Berserk Button: Ruining or damaging his art collection in the museum. Justified, since it's his job to keep the museum in order and ensure everything is in mint condition.
  • Dead End Job: Formerly, he was an aspiring artist, but he "couldn't make it big" and is now stuck unceremoniously working at a museum for the past 22 years.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: He fully trusted Clean Whistle as a responsible employee who can keep the museum clean, yet she turns out to be the thief of the Mona Lippizzaner.
  • Master of One Magic: As its curator, he's expected to protect the museum's works from being stolen or damaged, so he's become skilled in summoning a shield, which is noted to be a difficult spell to perform.
  • Meaningful Name: He's a curator of a museum and a "walking tour" is a typical amenity at those establishments.
  • Red Herring: Out of all the suspects, he has the most evidence indicating that he's the thief. During his interrogation, it's noted that he was a struggling artist who's been forced to work at a museum to make ends meet and was nearly fired by the museum's board for badgering other museums. Combined with his obsession with the Mona Lippizzaner, it's suspected that he wants to steal the picture for himself before he gets dismissed. However, it turns out that the real culprit is Clean Whistle.

    Sparkling Slipstream
One of the richest ponies in Fillydelphia and a suspect for being the thief of the Mona Lippizzaner.
  • Disinherited Child: He's on the verge of becoming this to his parents. Having faced seven charges of assault and four charges of harassment, his parents have cut off his allowance as punishment and threatened to disinherit him if he gets into more trouble.
  • It's All About Me: In the Mona Lippizzaner exhibit, he pushes everyone out of the way to get a better look at it.
  • Jerkass: He's incredibly snooty and selfish, insulting pretty much every character he meets, including his fiancée.
  • Overlord Jr.: Downplayed. He's the nephew of Wind Rider and while both are jerks, neither of them are full-blown villains.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: While "villain" is a bit of a stretch, he's a massive jerk who carries an elitist attitude towards those he deems as "peasants."

    Moonlight Dazzle
Sparkling Slipstreams' fiancée and a suspect for stealing the Mona Lippizzaner.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: She literally begs for Hard Case and Flash Sentry to not accuse Slipstream for stealing the Mona Lippizzanner, claiming that doing so would cause his parents to disinherit him from the family.
  • Extreme Doormat: When Slipstream insults her quiet nature, she can only shrink in embarassment.
  • Hidden Depths: Surprisingly, she's actually skilled with rune and lightning magic, having been a former student at Celestia's school.
  • Old Money: Just like her fiancé, she comes inherits the wealth of her family, specifically being the heir to the Dazzle fortune.
  • The Quiet One: Out of all the museum suspects, she speaks the least. This is even lampshaded by her fiancé.

By the Book and Hard Case
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mlp_ff_by_the_book_and_hard_case_issue_14.png
A pair of police officers in Fillydelphia, who are tackling the theft of the Mona Lippizzaner.
  • Canon Immigrant: In official material, they've only appeared in the comics, specifically "My Little Pony Friends Forever Issue 14".
  • Old Cop, Young Cop: While Hard Case appears to still be youthful, By the Book has a graying mane.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Although they believe that Lightning Blitz and Solid Script are behind the Mona Lippizzaner's theft, they allow Flash Sentry and Discord to investigate the case himself and find the real culprit. Unfortunately, even they have their limits and prohibit both of them from continuing the case when Discord inadvertantly freezes the floor and causes By the Book to crash into a collection of rare vases.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: By the Book is the more short tempered of the duo, while Hard Case is more analytical and calm.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Despite working with Discord to find the culprit, both of them don't appreciate his chaotic antics, believing that they are interfering with the case.

Our Town

    Double Diamond
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_6271.png
A pony brainwashed by Starlight Glimmer to adhere to her ideology of equality.
  • Ascended Extra: He plays a more substantial role in "Our Town" than he did in the official episode.
  • Hidden Depths: At first, Double seems like a naive, dumb pony who will wholeheartedly believe everything that another tells him, like Starlight and her lies about cutie marks. However, when Flash has him captured and claims to have hid the Staff of Sameness far away, Double is a lot more perceptive than he looks and correctly guesses that it's in a nearby bush, all without missing a beat. Flash, unable to retort, knocks him out in response.
  • I Owe You My Life: The reason why he's so loyal to Starlight is because she rescued and nursed him back to health after he suffered a skiing incident. Once Starlight's lies are exposed by Flash, Double can hardly believe it, but he eventually turns on his former friend for her deception, though their friendship does get repaired after Starlight's Heel–Face Turn.
  • Obliviously Evil: When Flash interrogates him about trying to kidnap the Mane 7, Double is befuddled, genuinely believing that removing their cutie marks was for their benefit.

Season 5

    Owl/Double Take
See his entry here.

    Shichimi and Wasabi
A daughter and father who run a ramen restaurant in Ponyville.
  • Expy: They are based on Ayame and Teuchi from Naruto, who were also owners of a ramen restaurant.
  • Meaningful Name: "Shichimi" and "wasabi" are an ingredient and paste respectively that are a part of Japanese cuisine, befitting their Japanese ancestry.

    Piña Colada and Berryshine
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_9049.jpeg
A daughter and mother who are Ponyville's berry farmers and distributers.
  • The Alcoholic: Although Berryshine tries to control her drinking, she occasionally falls into lapses.
  • Ascended Extra: Both are relegated to cameos in the canon series, while they get their personalities fleshed out in "Slice of Life" here.
  • Children Are Innocent: Piña is unaware or at least unable to comprehend her mother's alcoholism and the adverse effects from addiction. Berryshine hopes to preserve her innocence as long as possible and thus advises her to take everything in life with moderation.
  • Good Parents: Berryshine is shown to be a loving mother to Piña, trying to protect her from developing an addiction and even letting her help prepare punch for Cranky and Matilda's wedding.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite being Ponyville's main producer of alcohol, it's shown that she doesn't want Piña to become alcoholic too.

    Rapid Growth
A pony villager who Flash Sentry and Cold Steel try to help.
  • Extreme Doormat: Even though his village is a part of Equestria and could request for help against Gold Hoof, he merely submits to Gold Hoof's rule, believing that Equestria would disregard their problems anyways. Eventually, he learns to stand up against Gold Hoof and works to overthrow him.
  • Grew a Spine: Inspired by Flash Sentry and Cold Steel, he rebels against Gold Hoof by completing Strong Structure's idea of building a bridge to acquire their valued seaweed on the other side of the lake, thus preventing Gold Hoof from extorting money from the villagers to cross the lake with his harshly-priced boat rides.
  • Mr. Exposition: He explains the story behind how Gold Hoof consolidated his power over it and why Swift is so cynical.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: His son, Strong Structure, was executed by Gold Hoof for attempting to undermine his authority over the village.
  • Took a Level in Idealism: He was too despondent to bother resisting against Gold Hoof, but meeting Flash and Cold gave him the courage to rebel.

    Azure Petal
Rapid Growth's daughter-in-law and Swift Growth's mother.
  • Grew a Spine: She's the second one to join Flash Sentry and Cold Steel in rebelling against Gold Hoof.
  • I Will Punish Your Friend for Your Failure: As punishment for rebelling against him a second time, Gold Hoof kidnaps her son and plans to drown him, causing her to fear that he'll suffer the same fate as her late husband.

    Swift Growth
Rapid Growth's grandson and Azure Petal's son.
  • Berserk Button: Insulting his family is an easy way to get him angry.
  • Freudian Excuse: He's the most cynical and rude villager that Flash Sentry and Cold Steel meet, but that's because his father was killed by Gold Hoof for attempting to build a bridge that would've undermined Gold Hoof's ability to extort money from the villagers to cross the lake through his boat rides. This incident traumatized him and led him to become a pessimist.
  • Took a Level in Idealism: He comes to realize that there is no use in moping around about his father's death and that he shouldn't shut himself away from his remaining loved ones.

    Pinkie Pie's family
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pp_family_photo_1621.png
The family members of Pinkie Pie, which consists of Igenous Rock Pie, Cloudy Quartz Pie, Maud Pie, Limestone Pie, and Marble Pie.
  • Actually Pretty Funny: When Wild Smile learns about the Pairing Stone from the Pie Sisters, he jokes that if Princess Cadance ever learned about it she would probably order it to be smashed for doing her job. This actually gets Marble and Limestone to giggle and even Maud lets out a tiny smile.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Wild Smile knows how protective Maud is of Pinkie, remembering how she atomized a giant rock with her bare hooves to save her. When Wild briefly mistakenly believes Pinkie Pie is pregnant with his child, and thinks of what Maud will do to him for getting her sister pregnant, he imagines himself in place of the rock, and Maud aiming a bit lower.
  • Obnoxious In-Laws: Averted. Contrary to Wild Smile's expectations, all of them are happy for his relationship with Pinkie Pie and treat him with respect.

Season 6

    Wonderbolts Board of Directors
A group of former Wonderbolts who manage the organization.
  • 0% Approval Rating: They had this at least during "Newbie Dash". The Wonderbolts didn't take kindly to them trying to reject Rainbow from the team on false charges, despite all the protests they gave, even to the point where they all threaten to quit together if they still try to keep Rainbow off the team. Also, the entire crowd gathered to watch the race they set up between Rainbow and Spitfire noticeably cheers for the two racers, but only boo at the Directors themselves.
  • Anti-Villain: Downplayed as they aren’t really villains. Their main issue is that they think that Rainbow Dash slept her way into becoming a Wonderbolt.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: They find themselves on the receiving end of one from the entire team of Wonderbolts after Rainbow and Spitfire's race. When Spitfire thinks they are going to try to pull some loophole to disqualify Rainbow or make the two of them redo the entire thing, she lays into them that there is more to being a Wonderbolt than winning every race, and that if they are still going to deny Rainbow what she rightfully deserves then she'll quit the team. A threat that is followed up by the rest of the Wonderbolts as well. Though the board members then say they were just trying to say that Spitfire was right all along.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Their main antagonist role is believing that Rainbow cheated her way into the Wonderbolts through favoritism and fraud via her relationship with Soarin, despite what all the other Wonderbolts say in her defense. However, when they witness Rainbow in action through her race with Spitfire, and see her risk her life to save Spitfire when things go wrong, they realize they misjudged her and sincerely apologize to her while accepting her entry into the Wonderbolts.

    Woolly Blinker and Lace Blinker
The leaders of Blinkermane, who eventually decided to divide the town in two, between stallions and mares.
  • Can't Live with Them, Can't Live Without Them: Although they are responsible for the town being divided, they still love each other and actually miss each other's company.
  • Slap-Slap-Kiss: Their arguments eventually escalated to all of Blinkermane being divided between genders, but when push came to shove they ultimately still admitted they loved each other and couldn't go through with a divorce.

    Fibre Switch and Blooming Harvest
Two young ponies that live in Blinkermane, and don't enjoy the gender separation the stallions and mares enforce.
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Fibre prefers to work in a yarn factory knitting, and Blooming likes working in the farm with all the sheep.
  • Only Sane Man: Beside Flash and Twilight, they're the only ones who think Woolly and Lace's ideals are insane.
  • Opposites Attract: They are almost complete opposites, but they enjoy each others company.
  • Secret Relationship: Flash and Twilight discover them together, making out. Due to the town being divided between stallions and mares, they had to secretly sneak off and meet up together or they would be seen as "traitors".

    Zephyr Breeze
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zephyr_5.png
Fluttershy's little brother who struggles to keep an interest in anything and constantly annoys her and her friends.
  • Author Avatar: In the author's note of "Flutter Brutter", Banshee531 admits he was having hard time of writing the chapter because Zephyr reminds him of himself.
  • Malicious Misnaming: He calls Soarin "boring" due to him dating Rainbow Dash.
  • Obnoxious In-Laws: He and Iron Core don't get along at all. Zephyr is terrified of Iron and Iron sees him as a lazy slacker who takes advantage of others and isn't worth anyones time.
  • Operation: Jealousy: He deludes himself into thinking that Rainbow Dash is pulling this on him with Soarin, that she is only dating Soarin to make him jealous and impressed with her. Of course this is false and Rainbow isn't interested in Zephyr at all, not that he believes her.

    Snap Shutter and Mane Allgood
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/scootaparents.png
Good friends of Trail Blazer and Misty Veil
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: They didn't appear until the final season in the show. Here, they appear in season 6.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Instead of being Scootaloo's biological parents here, they are her and Flash's godparents.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: They utilize their tracking and wildlife knowledge to track down the cause behind why New Omniara's livestock is disappearing.
  • Oh, Crap!: They are shocked when they discover a living loucarcolh in Equestria, both because they thought it extinct and for how dangerous it is.
  • Old Friend: They knew Trail Blazer and Misty Veil, even being honored to be Flash and Scootaloo's godparents and to take care of them in case their real parents were killed.

    Rancher
A pony that Flash Sentry and Lightning Blitz meet in New Omniara.
  • Chariot Pulled by Cats: He's got a chariot pulled by five Desert Speed Stingers, which he's affectionately named Zippy, Swift-Claw, Blur, Streak, and Peppermint.
  • Cowboy: He's got the dress and mannerisms of a typical cowboy.
  • Native Guide: He lives in New Omniara and gets paid by Snap Shutter and Mane Allgood to lead them, Flash Sentry, and Lightning Blitz to possible leads causing the livestock disappearances.
  • Undying Loyalty: He refuses to leave his Speed Stingers to the loucracolh.

    Clearwater and Gentle Cloud
A pair of ponies who are brought in to meet Flurry Heart, along with Fancy Pants and Hard Sell.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Clearwater and Gentle Cloud harbor some subdued fears that Flurry Heart could become a villain like Sombra and Tirek. That said, they justifiably condone Hard Sell's plan to kill her.
  • Out of Focus: Of the quartet of ponies brought in by Cadance, Clearwater stands out the least.
  • Politically Incorrect Hero: Gentle Cloud is friendly to Cadance, but she is prejudiced against changelings, expressing suspicion over whether it is safe for Hiveena to wander around in the same castle as Flurry Heart.
  • The Quiet One: Clearwater only has one line of dialogue in the chapter she appears in.
  • Red Herring: Gentle Cloud is treated as a possible suspect behind the kidnapping of Flurry Heart, as she's the only one of the quarter of visitors who aren't blown back by the bomb set up by the intruder. However, it turns out that she's actually innocent and Hard Sell is the true mastermind of the plot.

Season 7

    Doctor Fauna
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doctor_fauna_with_bird__by_cloudyglow_db8gi7z_3.png
Ponyville's local veterinarian and a friend of Fluttershy's.
  • Boring, but Practical: She's one of the two main healers that the Mane Six have befriended, the other being Shining Soul. While Soul has magical alicorn powers to heal any injury, Doctor Fauna uses more grounded and professional medical practices to treat animals, which is still treated as effective. Her specialty in that field is why Fluttershy goes to her to heal Angel's injury instead of Soul.

    Feather Bangs
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/feather_bangs.png
A handsome pony from Our Town who competes with Big Mac for Sugar Belle's affection.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: In canon, he just seems to be Innocently Insensitive at worst, but he's noticeably more arrogant here, speaking in a dismissive tone when he talks to Rogue.
  • Berserk Button: Insulting his long mane is enough to visibly annoy him.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Even if his unsavory traits are more prominent here, he isn't unhealthily possessive of Sugar Belle, respecting her wish to leave her bakery when his rivalry with Big Mac goes too far and gracefully moving on from her when she chooses Big Mac over him.
  • Sweet Tooth: He seems to like Sugar Belle's pies, though it may just be part of his flirting with her.

    Karst and Flash
A pony and his pet dog, the latter of whom needs to rescue his master from a blizzard.
  • Big Friendly Dog: Flash is a medium-sized, playful dog who earns the adoration of the characters it meets and is completely devoted to its master, Karst.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": Invoked when the children are trying to suggest names for Flash when they don't know his identity, in which Mira suggests calling him "Dog". The others practically scoff at the idea.
  • Fan Boy: Karst idolizes Flash Sentry, which is why he named his dog after him.
  • Happily Married: Karst is married, in which his wife is the one who requests for Flash and his friends to rescue him from a blizzard.
  • Stock Animal Name: Zig-Zagged. When the children of the main cast meet Flash and are unaware of his name, they suggest all sorts of common pet names, including: Speedy, Scoop, Bouncy, and Schnoodles.

    Star Tracker
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/large_4_90.png
A fan of Twilight who wins the prize of hanging out with Twilight on Iron Will's zeppelin.
  • Heel Realization: After Twilight loses her composure, Flash tells him about his presence had inadvertently made her too exhausted to see the spectacle. Upon realizing this, Tracker apologizes for this to Twilight.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Downplayed compared to canon. Under threat by Flash, Tracker agrees to stay a leg's length away from Twilight, but he's still unaware that his presence is preventing Twilight from enjoying a vacation from her family and stressing her out.
  • Nervous Wreck: He's easily intimidated by Flash, who doesn't like him hanging around Twilight.

The Movie

    Queen Novo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/novo.png
The queen of the Hippogriffs.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: She first made a cameo in War of the Lost City, which is at least two seasons before her canon appearance in The Movie.
  • Chew-Out Fake-Out: When Twilight apologizes to her for her attempted theft and hopes she does not hold her desperate actions against all of Equestria, Novo lists everything the ponies have done since they met, including coming into her home uninvited, trying to steal their most important relic, nearly leading the Storm King's forces to them, getting her daughter involved in a dangerous battle where she could have been killed or captured, and freed her subjects from having to hide away from the world in fear thanks to defeating the Storm King.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Although she was enraged to find out that Twilight had attempted to steal her pearl and subsequently kicked her and all of her friends out, she wasn't heartless enough to strand them in the middle of the ocean, ensuring that they would be close enough to the shore for them to swim to.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Even though she has reason to not trust Equestria due to Twilight's numerous transgressions, she's willing to move past them out of gratitude for saving the Hippogriffs from the Storm King.
  • Willfully Weak: After Wingill stole a fragment of her pearl for his own keeping, Novo placed a lock on its magic so that it can only allow its users to transform between their natural being and a sea-based equivalent, which justifies why she can't transform the heroes to anything more powerful than that.

    Princess Skystar
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mlp_2017_skystar.png
Spoilers
The daughter of Queen Novo.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Like her mother, she appears as a cameo in War of the Lost City before her proper appearance in the Movie.
  • Foil: To Wingill. Both are young hippogriffs who want to return to the surface world and defy Queen Novo to do so. However, whereas Wingill turned to the Cult of Shadow to achieve his goals and became evil in the process, Skystar remains relatively obedient to her mother and remains on the heroes' side.

Season 8

    Atmos and Slyph Stringer
Soarin's parents.
  • Follow in My Footsteps: They mention how they are former accountants and are now investors, and that they had always hoped Soarin would join the family business when he got older, but he eventually joined the Wonderbolts instead. That being said though, they state that they are proud of their son for following his dreams and achieving them despite their doubts, and for achieving more than they ever thought he would.
  • Former Teen Rebel: Slyph Stringer was apparently a lot like Rainbow Dash when she was younger, being a tomcolt that enjoyed extreme sports and hated doing nothing.
  • Good Parents: They both show they care about their son very much, telling him how proud of him they are for becoming a Wonderbolt like he dreamed and for getting a nice mare like Rainbow Dash as a girlfriend. When they learn how Soarin plans to propose to Rainbow, but is nervous over potentially being rejected and ruining their relationship, they both sit down with him, talking him through his trouble and encouraging him to face his fears.
  • Moment Killer: They end up doing this along with Bow Hothoof and Windy Whistles when after Rainbow accepts Soarin's marriage proposal and the two begin making out, they are interrupted when they hear their parents cheering for the two of them.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: When Slyph Stringer first meets Rainbow Dash, she grabs her by the chin and moves her head side to side while examining her. This, and complimenting Rainbow on her appearance, embarrasses Soarin and causes Rainbow to blush.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Atmos tells Soarin that his situation of being afraid about asking Rainbow to marry him is similar to what he went through himself, explaining that Slyph was a lot like Rainbow when she was younger and he was afraid she wouldn't want to marry him for the same reasons that Soarin is afraid Rainbow won't.
  • Parents as People: When Soarin spoke of them to Rainbow before, he talked about how they humored his dreams to be a Wonderbolt at first despite thinking it was just a foolish dream at first but as he got older they started to tell him it might not be possible. This kind of attitude initially made them not look in the best light, with Rainbow getting mad just by hearing this. But when they finally appear in person and meet Rainbow and her family, they show they have only ever wanted what's best for Soarin, and are very proud of him for following his dream and accomplishing more than they ever thought he would. They show they still have his best interests at heart when they comfort Soarin over his anxiousness about asking Rainbow to marry him, and give him the courage to go through with it.
  • Prim and Proper Bun: Slypth Stringer has her mane up in a bun, works as an investor along with her husband, and is very respectful and kind.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: They make their first appearance in Season 8, in "Viva Las Pegasus", where they finally meet Rainbow Dash and her family. Their surprise visit has major influences on Soarin's plan to propose to Rainbow Dash though, since their Silver Horseshoe membership helps the two of them save a few hours they would have spent waiting in line for the Wild Blue Yonder, and when Soarin's nerves start to get the better of him they sit down with him and offer him so words of encouragement, and Atmos helps Soarin set up a perfect proposal for Rainbow.
  • So Proud of You: They are proud of their son for all he has accomplished, more than they ever imagined he would. From overcoming his fear of flying after a nearly fatal fall, to winning the best young fliers competition and becoming a Wonderbolt despite their doubts, and fighting against evil forces in the Lost City of Faust with his friends. They say it once again when Rainbow Dash accepts Soarin's proposal to her.

    Raisins
A unicorn filly that works at First Aid's medical facility.
  • Blatant Lies: When First Aid catches her on the Caduceus Cloudwalker, she insists she didn't stow away on it, she just "happened to be on board when the ship took off". First Aid sees through that immediately, since she wasn't even supposed to be anywhere near the ship in the first place.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Her first appearance has her messing with Heart and Jaden by pretending to be an angry voice and declaring they trespassed in "her hospital" before being interrupted and told off by First Aid, and she comments on how Heart and Jaden were probably just lucky saving the Seeker. This establishes how she gets jealous of others when First Aid gives them attention, and tries to act more responsible than she actually is.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Her real name is Asclepia, but everyone calls her Raisins. When First Aid calls her by her real name when ordering her back to the village, it serves as a You Called Me "X"; It Must Be Serious moment.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Apparently, First Aid and Heather Bloom knew her awhile before Season 8, and yet they made no mention about her until her first appearance in "Heart and Jaden's Big Adventure".
  • Tag Along Kid: She stows away on the Caduceus Cloudwalker to join in on First Aid's mission in an attempt to prove she can be helpful.
  • Troll: When Heart and Jaden visit the medical facility as part of their test and are teleported to the cafeteria to wait for First Aid, Raisins takes the moment to mess with them by making a big scary voice towards them in the dark.

    Yigrid

A yak who mentored Pinkie Pie on how to play the yovidaphone.
  • Cool Teacher: She's wise, skilled at playing the yovidaphone, and kind enough to take Pinkie as her apprentice when she wants to master the same instrument. During their adventure, she teaches Pinkie Pie many valuable lessons, like delicate coordination and patience.
  • Informed Attribute: According to Yona, Yigrid is a strict teacher, but when she actually teaches Pinkie Pie, she's quite pleasant and reasonable.
  • Lethal Chef: Her soup is so bad that even Pinkie Pie can't stomach it and spits it out when Yigrid turns away from her.
  • Mentor Archetype: Yigrid teaches Pinkie Pie how to play the yovidaphone and channel her passion for it to become as good as herself.

    Autumn Blaze

A kirin that restored her speech, and is old friends with Searing Salix.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She makes a brief appearance during the flashbacks in "Courageous Burning Heart", as part of Searing Salix's origin.
  • Good Counterpart: She serves as one to Searing Salix. When given the choice between taking the vow of silence or leaving, she chose the former at first, unlike Salix. But after a few years of this, she realized her mistake and restored her voice, becoming a Motor Mouth the same as him. But she is introduced as desperate for friends and someone to converse with, while Salix was originally part of a cult when first introduced, who was only Affably Evil.
  • Go Mad from the Isolation: Fire Heart notes how her years of silence followed by years of isolation, did a number on her, turning her into almost as much of a Motor Mouth as Salix was.
  • Irony: She initially agreed to the vow of silence like most of the other kirin, believing she could live without speech if it meant staying safe. She ends up cracking after a few years of this though, and is the first kirin to restore her voice and emotions.

Season 9

Crimson Nimble, Cobalt Crash, and Rough Riot
A trio of young up-and-coming recruit guards.
  • Break the Haughty: Both Nimble and Cobalt got this when they suffered humiliating defeats by villains in their first real fight.
  • Fatal Flaw: Each one of them has a flaw that is holding them back from making it as guards. Flash's lessons with them and their experience help them overcome these flaws.
    • Cobalt Crash's is entitlement. He grew up under his wealthy father, but was cut off from him until he could prove he is capable of running the family business. He feels he is too good for the guard and deserves the best right away while acting Holier Than Thou to those around him.
    • Crimson Nimble's is her impatience. She is constantly on the move almost never staying still, wanting to get everything done as fast as possible, sometimes even trying to do multiple things at once which can lead to her making mistakes. She claims she wants to become a Royal Knight as fast as possible so she can actually do something with the title instead of spending years training for it.
    • Rough Riot's is his fear of his safety. His father died early in his career as a guard due to inhaling smoke from a fire. Rough wants to honor him by being a guard himself, but his fear over his health makes him act like a hypochondriac.
  • Token Good Teammate: Downplayed since none of them are evil, but Rough is the most kind and least arrogant out of the guards. They all act as this to the rest of the Royal Guards later during "Ending of the End", since they are one of the few ponies that haven't given into the xenophobia rumors being spread by the villains, and agree to help Flash figure out what's going on.
