Main Characters
- Voiced & Portrayed by: Rosabell Laurenti Sellers (Season 1-2), Margot Nuccetelli (Season 3 onward)
The main character of the series. Each episode focuses on her adventures as she travels to and from Centopia.
- Eye Color Change: She gets purple-colored eyes in Centopia.
- Friend to All Living Things: Is able to quickly connect with Lyria and other unicorns, despite most unicorns being shy around elves to begin with. Panthea's pet cat Ziggo also seems to be slightly less hostile towards her compared to the other elves. This trope is even more pronounced in season 2, where Mia spends summer vacation at her grandfather's farm and is able to bond with Sapphire, a horse that originally belonged to Violetta and is nervous around most other people.
- Naïve Newcomer: In the beginning of season 1. While Mia was familiar with Centopia from the stories her father told her when she was little, she is initially unaware of the threat Panthea and the other dark elves currently pose.
- Parental Abandonment: Both of Mia's parents died sometime before the beginning of the series.
- Pink Heroine: Her elf form has dark pink hair tied with a pink hair tie, she wears a short strapless pink dress, pink stocking-like boots, and has white wings with a slight touch of pink.
- Rose-Haired Sweetie: In her elf form.
- Shipper on Deck: Ships Yuko and Mo, although Mia herself also had a crush on Mo in season 1.
- Speaks Fluent Animal: Is the only one capable of communicating with unicorns.
Yuko
An elf girl that Mia befriends in Centopia. She and Prince Mo usually accompany Mia on her adventures in Centopia.
- Action Girl: Is one of the best elf warriors.
- Clingy Jealous Girl: Sometimes acts this way when Mo pays special attention to Mia or other girls.
- Tomboy with a Girly Streak: She is proud of her abilities as a warrior and enjoys going on adventure, but we sometimes see her more feminine side. The episode "All Dressed Up" in particular reveals how she always wanted to be crowned "Blushflower Princess" in the Blushflower Princess Ball.
Prince Mo
The elf prince of the Elf Crater and a friend of Mia. He and Yuko usually accompany Mia on her adventures.
- Chick Magnet: Is quite popular with the elf girls.
- Royals Who Actually Do Something
Onchao
A winged unicorn foal that is born in the episode "The Golden Son". He is capable of making plants grow even in places that have been left barren by Panthea.
- Disappeared Dad: His father is never mentioned during the first season, but he plays a big part in the second season, with part of the story revolving around the heroes' attempts to find out what happened to him. Onchao finally gets to meet him in "The Unicorn King".
- Green Thumb: Can make plants grow, even in areas that had been left barren because of Panthea.
- Hope Bringer: His special powers make him this.
- Winged Unicorn: Is the only known winged unicorn until season 2, where we eventually meet his father, Ono.
Phuddle
A pan that befriends the elves, and who often invents things that don't work the way he intends. Occasionally, he invents something that proves to be a surprisingly useful tool against the villains.
- Bungling Inventor: Always trying to make useful inventions to help out the elves or other pans, but most of them don't work the way he intended, some of them even doing something completely different. However, he created the trumptus, which proves to be the most effective weapon against dark elves.
- Heroic Self-Deprecation: Does this a lot.
- Lethal Chef: He is mentioned a few times to be a terrible cook. Both Season 2 and Season 3 weaponize this in order to give the elves a means to fight against enemies that are unaffected by regular water.
King Raynor
The king of the Elf Crater, and Mo's father.
Queen Mayla
The queen of the Elf Crater, and Mo's mother.
- Only Sane Man: Downplayed. While Raynor is a good king, Mayla is often shown to be more open-minded in certain situations.
Lyria
The first unicorn that Mia meets in Centopia. She was Ono's mate, and gives birth to Onchao in the episode "The Golden Son".
- The Bus Came Back: After her Heroic Sacrifice in "Onchao's Oasis", she returns in "Tears of Joy", "Panthea's Proposal", and she (and the other captured unicorns) are freed in "The End of an Age".
- Determinator: In "Restoration", she doesn't stop trying to reach an apple growing on a branch too high up until she figures out a way to get it. Later in the same episode, she continues to search for the trumptus' blueprints after Mia and Phuddle give up, and eventually finds them.
- Heroic Sacrifice: In "Onchao's Oasis", she allows herself to be captured by Gargona and her minions in order to keep Mia and Onchao safe.
The Element Unicorns
Four powerful unicorns with the power of the four elements, the Water Unicorn, the Wind Unicorn, the Earth Unicorn and the Fire Unicorn.

A strange snake-like merchant who is willing to offer his services if you have something he wants. Has assisted both the heroes and villains throughout both seasons.
- Reptiles Are Abhorrent: Downplayed, he's not malicious, just greedy.

Shiva, Xolana and Lasita
Three elf girls introduced in Season 2, who help look after the animals freed from Rixel's circus and protect the unicorns.
- Friend to All Living Things: Lasita turns out to be very good with animals, and is basically the main elf in charge of looking after the animals rescued from Rixel.
- Palette Swap: Their designs are essentially more detailed palette swaps of some of the recurring background character models.
Simo
- Voiced by: Pierre Mourant (Season 2), Angus McGruther (Season 3 onward)
A handsome young elf boy introduced in Season 2. Lives in the Blackwood Forest with his mother, who doesn't let him travel far from his home out of concern for him.
- Friend to All Living Things: Gets along well with the nature unicorns of the Blackwood Forest, and seems to be good with animals in general. It's one of the reasons he quickly bonds with Lasita.
- Walking Shirtless Scene
Tessandra
- Voiced by: Kelly Topaz (Season 2), Laura Wilinson (Season 3 onward)
An elf introduced in Season 2, who lives deep in the Blackwood Forest with her son, Simo. Initially doesn't want to do with the other elves, but eventually agrees to help create an antidote to Rixel's spell and gradually warms up to other elves.
Ono
A Winged Unicorn introduced in Season 2 who is the Unicorn King, and Onchao's father.
Scrobbit, Flow and Miri
Three animals from Rixel's circus, that the elves rescue from him and look after. Much of Season 2 is spent looking for a way to break the curse on the animals that allows Rixel to control them.
Kyara
Onchao's younger sister, born in the beginning of Season 3. Like her brother, she has wings and a golden horn, the latter making her another potential target for the villains.
- 11th-Hour Superpower: Is able to purify the nightvine and heal those affected by its venom after merging with the Heart of Centopia in the season finale.
- Genki Girl: Is quite cheerful and energetic most of the time.
- Winged Unicorn: Has wings, just like her father and older brother.

- Immortality Immorality: She tries to keep herself young by using Unicorn horns.
- White Mask of Doom
Ziggo
Panthea's cat.
- Jerkass: He doesn't like Gargona.
- Right-Hand Cat
Gargona
Panthea's second-in-command during season 1. After being the only dark elf to survive the final battle of season 1, she teams up with Rixel in the second season in hopes of returning to Dystopia. In the third season, she teams up with Dax and his bug men to once again try to capture one of the winged unicorns.
Rixel
- Voiced by: David Pender-Crichton
Gurga
Rixel's dino-dragon, who aids him in battle against the elves with her fire breath and living fire balls.
- Brilliant, but Lazy: Her true self, although she did occasionally show her lazy side while she was still under Rixel's curse.
- Heel–Face Turn: After being freed from the curse, she helps the elves get past Rixel's fire wall so they can save Ono and defeat Rixel once and for all.
The Master of Dystopia/Lord Drakon

A boy at Mia's school, and her first friend at her new school.
- Secret-Keeper: Gradually learns about Mia's secret through the first few episodes of season 1.

- Portrayed by: Saphia Stoney
Mia's roommate at the boarding school. She starts out as a member of Violetta's Girl Posse, but later becomes Mia's friend.
- Secret-Keeper: Learns about Mia's adventures late in season 1. After initially freaking out when Mia vanishes in front of her, she takes the information from Vincent surprisingly well and helps him repair the charger to Mia's bracelet so she can return.
Violetta/ Varia
- Portrayed by: Josephine Benini
The Alpha Bitch at Mia's school, who often bothers Mia.
- Daddy's Girl: Loves her father very much, and he clearly has her best interests in mind, unlike her mother.
- The Mole: Rixel forces her to work for him and gather information on what the elves are up to.
- Secret Chaser: In season 1, she has an interest in learning the secret of Mia's book, although about halfway through the season she seems to have given up. Halfway through season 2, she does learn Mia's secret when she obtains a piece of Mia's bracelet, which transports her to Centopia whenever Mia goes there.
- Took a Level in Kindness: During the second half of season 2, as she goes on adventures with Mia and the others in Centopia as Varia, she gradually starts to become a nicer person. By the end of the season, she has even become friends with Mia.
Renzo
- Portrayed by: Ray Lovelock
Introduced in season 2, he is Mia's grandfather and his farm is where Mia stays during summer vacation in season 2.
Mario
- Portrayed by: Luca Saviozzi Murphy
Introduced in season 2, he is a boy who helps out at Renzo's farm.
- Secret-Keeper: Mia eventually tells him her secret late in season 2.
Sara
- Portrayed by: Lucia Luna Laurenti Sellers
Introduced in season 3, she's a girl that Mia ends up befriending and staying with during the summer. Having lost her eyesight due to an accident, she's become rather reluctant to return to school once summer ends since people tend to treat her differently now.
- Chekhov's Skill: Mia teaches her how to read Centopian runes, which later allows her to travel to Centopia using Mia's bracelet when Mia gets captured by the villains.
- Friend to All Living Things: Since she lives on a small farm, she's pretty good with animals. The fact that she and Mia share this trait is one of the reasons they bond so quickly.
- Secret-Keeper: Mia begins telling her about Centopia early on, but it takes a while for Mia to convince her that it's real since Sara can't see when Mia disappears when travelling to Centopia like her previous secret keepers.
