Tony Stark/Iron Man

Voiced by: Dave Franco

Let's get serious! ...Is what people tell me all the time.

A young, genius, playboy inventor who has created a super-powered suit of armour. He is the first student recruited into the Academy.

• American Robot: The Capbuster armor from Civil War, which Tony designed to mock how Steve is Captain Patriotic.
• The Blacksmith: Odin asked Tony to forge iron weapons and armor for A-Force to use against the Dark Elves. He didn't tell Tony to dress like a medieval blacksmith and do it all by hand, but he did anyway.
• Crazy-Prepared: When Pepper asks if he could design her a suit of armour, he tells her that he already has - for everyone in the Academy. As well as suits designed to fight every one at the academy, just in case.
• Energy Weapon: Possesses a Hand Blast with his repulsors, and a Chest Blaster unibeam attack.
• Gadgeteer Genius: He builds most of the tech around the Academy.
• Homing Projectile: Can launch missiles from his armor in the Blasting Range.
• Inferiority Superiority Complex: According to Janet, most of Tony's talk about how smart he is is really just a cover for his own insecurity.
• In-Series Nickname: Loki calls him "Armor-Man".
• Insufferable Genius: One of the big facets of his personality.
• Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He acts arrogant and immature, but he is a good person underneath it all.
• Jet Pack: Flies around with a pair of rocket-powered steel boots.
• Powered Armour: The Iron Man suit, which he slowly accumulates in different pieces as he ranks up. Also most of his alternate costumes.
• Red Oni: Compared to Steve/Cap's blue.
• Superpowered Evil Side: Superior Iron Man, who starts going mad with power due to one of Loki's spells.
  • One of his quests is "Watch Them Scurry", which has him flying over the quad and looking down on everyone. His dialogue for the quest is "I don't know whether to laugh, cry, or put them out of their misery..."
• Too Many Belts: His Blacksmith costume has him wearing three belts on his stomach.
• Trademark Favorite Food: Cheese. He has a whole fridge dedicated to it.
• Walking Shirtless Scene: In his Iron Surfer costume, in which he only wears swim trunks, boots, and an armour glove. He loses the shirt for his Blacksmith costume as well.
• Wizard Classic: He makes a "Techno Wizard" costume in this style during the Dr. Strange event as a way to make fun of sorcerers and magic.
• Zeerust: For the Ultron Revolution event, he designs a series of alternate costumes for other students in 80's neon.

Janet Van Dyne/The Wasp

This place is buzzing!

A fashion-obsessed girl with the power to shrink, fly, and fire energy blasts.

• Action Fashionista: She can kick ass and look fabulous while doing so.
• Animal-Themed Superbeing: Wasps.
• Badass Adorable: Despite being fun-loving and generally friendly to everyone, Janet will design your body bags if you try and harm her friends.
• Badass in a Nice Suit: Her "Mob Boss Wasp" costume in the Hell's Kitchen event. The pinstripe suit was half her motivation to even become a mob boss in the first place.
• Cuteness Proximity: She goes into full on Squee territory when you unlock the British Bulldog during the British Invasion story.
• Damn, It Feels Good to Be a Gangster!: She recruits other Academy students into a crime gang during the Hell's Kitchen event. Officially, she did it to protect people from the Kingpin's more threatening gang, but in practice she just wants to quote her favorite gangster movies, get boys to "kiss the ring" and grovel at her feet, and wear pinstripes.
• Daytime Drama Queen: Implied by the way she compares the Civil War rivalry to a soap opera, and then starts coming up with ridiculous soap plots for it.
  Who's gonna backstab who?! Maybe they were brothers all along! What if one of 'em is pregnant?! What if they both are?! Who's the father?! These are the Days of Our Lives!
• The Ditz: Shades of this. While most characters have a study mission at the Timeless Archives, Jan has "Try to Study", which involves her sleeping on top of the desk. She gets better as she levels up, however, as she begins studying fashion and later entomology.
• The Fashionista: To the point that eventually she builds her own clothing shop on campus. She also gets more alternate costumes than almost anyone (she's tied with Tony, whose powers are also clothing-related).
• Film Noir: The inspiration behind the 'Reporter Wasp' outfit, which sees Janet dress up as an old-timey investigative reporter.
• Genki Girl: This version of the Wasp is very excitable. In one quest description she states "I tell people that too much energy is a good thing, but they usually arrest me anyway."
• Girly Bruiser: She loves fashion, selfies, and cute things, but she can still pack a mean punch when it comes time to beat up the bad guys.
• The Glasses Come Off: Her max-rank costume loses the sunglasses she wore in previous outfits, and the description when getting this upgrade says that's how you know she means business.
• Hand Blast: Her main offensive ability.
• Hell-Bent for Leather: Her leather motorcycle jacket, which eventually is replaced by a full-body Spy Catsuit by rank 5.
• Hidden Depths: Despite Tony's assumption that Janet would join #TeamIronMan during Civil War due to their similarly outgoing personalities, Janet sides with Steve during the Civil War event. She recognises the seriousness of the Hydra threat, and believes it is important to follow Cap's work ethic by training for the fight. On this and several other occasions, Janet has shown that beyond her apparent Ditz tendencies, she is very committed to heroics.
• Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy: Her Archer costume has an action where she tries to shoot an apple off a drone's head. She hits everything on the drone except the apple.
• In-Series Nickname: Loki's is "Bug-Woman" and Hulk calls her "nice bee".
• Innocent Blue Eyes: She has wide blue eyes and is both friendly and kind.
• Intrepid Reporter: She decides to try being one when the Daily Bugle moves near campus in the Spider-Man event, complete with alternate costume.
• Phoneaholic Teenager: Though not portrayed bratty or vain as this trope usually involves, one of Janet's defining personality traits is her obsession with texting, her cell phone, and social media.
  Wasp: Wanna stop for a selfie?
• Pintsize Powerhouse: She's able to go toe to toe with A-Bomb and Red Hulk during the Gamma Attack event.
• Sci-Fi Bob Haircut: Janet has one, likely as a nod to her 60s sci-fi roots.
• Sitcom Archnemesis: Despite generally being friendly to everyone, she doesn't get along with Enchantress all that well.
• Sizeshifter: She shrinks in order to use her flight and energy-blast abilities.
• Squee: She lets one of these out in the A-Force event when Tony says he made a bow and arrow set for her.
• The Straight and Arrow Path: She becomes an archer in the A-Force fantasy adventuring party.
• Stop Poking Me!: The first recruitable character with such a line.
  What ever happened to romance?
• Suddenly Bilingual: She instinctively understands what Groot says. Even Groot himself is surprised at this.
  Groot: I am Groot!?
  Wasp: [confused] Why wouldn't I be able to understand you?
• Talk Like a Pirate: She does this in her Pirate costume.
• William Telling: Her Archer costume has an action like this as described in Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy.
• Winged Humanoid: She grows small insect wings when she shrinks.
• Zeerust: The delightfully impractical Retro-Futuristic outfit, inspired by Janet's encounters with the extraterrestrial Guardians.

Let's make mischief...

The magic-using adopted son (or sometimes daughter) of Odin, who brings him to the Academy in the hopes that he will become more heroic and less scheming.

• Affably Evil: He's full of himself, but is usually quite polite (even if it is a smug, look-how-much-classier-I-am-than-you politeness) and can be a genuine friend to the heroic students. The Friend Nobody Likes, maybe, but a friend nonetheless.
• Amazing Technicolor Population: As a Frost Giant he turns pale blue.
• Ambiguously Bi: Has flirted with several female characters (including claiming that he is 'a natural with the ladies'), and appears to have sexual tension with the openly gay Union Jack. This would match with Loki's bisexuality in Earth-616 canon.
  • During act 2 of the Spider-Man event, Mysterio discovered that Loki wrote heartfelt letters to Black Widow and Union Jack.
• Amoral Attorney: Loki becomes Wilson Fisk's lawyer during the Daredevil event.
• An Ice Person: As Frost Giant Loki.
• Egomaniac Hunter: His Big Game Hunter costume in Monsters Unleashed.
• Emerald Power: His magic takes this form.
• Evil Laugh: We don't hear it, but he definitely seems to have one judging by the animation he uses while practicing magic.
• Functional Magic: Can cast spells and curses.
• Horned Humanoid: As Frost Giant Loki. He also puts on a helmet that gets longer horns with each upgrade. Supreme Sorceror Loki's horns are even taller than his level 5 form that Enchantress calls him out on overcompensating for something.
• Malicious Misnaming: He never calls anyone by their proper names on account of his arrogance, which he even lampshades at one point:
  I refer to everyone by a generic nickname because pretending not to remember their real names makes me seem incredibly dismissive, and infuriates them to no end.
• Momma's Boy: He usually keeps an attitude of smug superiority, but he flies off the handle when his mother Frigga is threatened.
• The Nicknamer: He rarely uses people's actual names. The various individual names he uses can be found in the other character entries. He gets on the wrong end of it for once when Angela calls him Karaoke.
  • During the Ultron event, Hawkeye is quite eager to learn what his Loki nickname is. It's come to a point where getting a Loki nickname is a rite of passage in joining the Academy.
• Odd Friendship: He manages to form bonds with Tony as they're self-admitted Trolls, with Vision over their love of parties, and with Bucky since he's sympathetic to the trauma Hydra put him through.
• Old-Timey Bathing Suit: His alternate beach costume. He picked out the design himself after doing some research on Midgardian swimwear (but apparently not enough).
• Poke the Poodle: His "Get Revenge" action is to build a snowman of Thor, give it a carrot nose, and knock off its head.
• The Queen's Latin: Loki is a Norse god, though speaks with a clipped English accent.
• Red Eyes, Take Warning: his Frost Giant form has red eyes.
• Serious Business: Dancing; he challenges to nearly every new student to dance-offs (as a riff on how the mission board constantly assigns him dance actions early in the game).
• Sex Shifter: He turns himself into "Lady Loki" in order to infiltrate A-Force.
• This Cannot Be!: Loki has this reaction to the fact that not only are there two Thors, but also two Mjolnirs.
• Token Evil Teammate: Loki, though he's brought in specifically to make him nicer and for the most part he's pleasant with the heroes.
• The Unfavorite: Thor is favored by Odin and virtually everyone else. Loki is keenly aware of this.
  Loki: You love my brother more than me!
• Walking Shirtless Scene: As a Frost Giant he only wears a black fur shawl over his shoulders, leaving his torso exposed.
• We Can Rule Together: Lady Loki notes that with her cunning and America Chavez's various dimensional powers, they could accomplish great things. America is more interested in lunch.

Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow

Voiced by: Alison Brie

It's not that I don't trust authority, it's just that I don't trust anyone.

A Russian super-spy who arrives at the Academy to dig into what Fury is hiding, often getting in his way.

• Animal-Themed Superbeing: Spiders, specifically black widows. Lampshaded at the beginning of the Spider-Man event, when Tony is about to insult spider-themed heroes but Natasha prompts him to backpedal.
• Badass Boast: She gives one to Kaecilius during the Doctor Strange arc.
  Kaecilius: Cthulhu will fall before my might.
  Natasha: It might. Black Widow won't.
• Dark Action Girl: Of the loner variety. Her starting characterization is the antisocial 'emo' archetype, who wears heavy eyeshadow and black clothes.
• Humanoid Abomination: Her Cthulhu outfit is this during the Doctor Strange arc.
• Flat Joy: One of her soundbites is "I'm. Just. Peachy."
• Groin Attack: She recommends this in a minor quest:
  "It's always good to know your opponent's weak points. But when in doubt, assault the genitals."
• Hand Blast: Her Widow's Bite, which are her wrist guns attached to her bracelets, can shoot energy blasts.
• In-Series Nickname: "Widow-Woman". Wasp also dubbed her "the mean ballerina" after hearing of her dance background, which has spread to other students.
• Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's a bit abrasive to her fellow classmates, but she can be kind - if you unlock Jessica, Natasha will be supportive when other classmates mistrust her for being a HYDRA defector.
• The Knights Who Say "Squee!": Black Widow is usually not impressed by anyone, but even she's nervous when meeting her legendary predecessor Peggy Carter.
• Odd Friendship: With A-Bomb, thanks to the two of them being some of the only students who take the threat of the timefog seriously.
  • Tony, too, in an "annoying younger brother" sort of way.
• Powered Armor: The special Iron Widow outfit in Civil War, which gives Natasha enhanced cloaking abilities.
• Pretty in Mink: The Super Spy Widow outfit has a white fur hat and a white coat with a fur lined hood. It's not inconspicuous, so it falls under Rule of Cool.
• Secret Chaser: She's constantly trying to figure out Fury's secrets.
• Shock and Awe: Her Widow's Bite is capable of discharging electric shocks.
• Spy Catsuit: At rank 5.
• Sugar-and-Ice Personality: She appears to hate company and views the other heroes with disdain and distrust, but eventually grows close to some characters, such as Captain America.
• Surrounded by Idiots: She tends to have this mindset when it comes to working with Tony and/or Janet.
• Teen Superspy: In this game, since she's college aged.
• Tsundere: As the story progresses, she's starting to become this with Loki of all people.
• The Worf Effect: Natasha is generally the Academy's most accomplished spy, with a wide network of contacts and intelligence. However, in order to let other characters have their time to shine, the story sometimes requires there to be some lead she hadn't considered before, or a piece of information she was somehow unaware of previously. This notably happens with fellow spies Agent 13 and Union Jack, as well as Black Panther.

Sam Wilson/The Falcon

Voiced by: A$AP Rocky

Why is fighting supervillains the most normal thing I do all-day?

A pilot recruited to help take down the HYDRA blimp, Sam is armed only with his wits and a jetpack.

• Afro Asskicker: He gets one of these with his Kung-Fu Falcon costume earned during the Daredevil event. Lampshaded when he gets the outfit, as he claims his hair grows ridiculously fast.
• Animal-Themed Superbeing: Falcons, obviously.
• Cool Shades: His red glasses, which turn into his goggles at Rank 5.
• Flight: One of his abilities thanks to his jet pack.
• I Know Mortal Kombat: He gets involved in the Hell's Kitchen event as "Kung-Fu Falcon", but freely admits that he's simply a fan of kung-fu movies and doesn't actually know martial arts. One of the first things he does is ask Iron Fist to actually train him.
• In-Series Nickname: "Bird-Man"
• Jet Pack: He uses one with built-in wings to fly around.
• Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: He gets access to Cap's shield with the Captain America Falcon costume.
• Nice Guy: He's a very kind and easygoing guy.
• Taking Up the Mantle: During the Civil War event. Steve realizes that he needs to focus on battle tactics, instead of spending time on the field. He entrusts the latter responsibility to Sam, and has Janet make him his own Captain America costume to inspire the SHIELD recruits.
• The Team Normal: Some focus is put on how his only super-ability is "owns a Jet Pack". His status as this causes him to feel a bit insecure around all the other students who have super abilities.

Amora/The Enchantress

Voiced by: Laura Bailey

My sorcery is only matched by my beauty.

An Asgardian sorceress with the power to control men's thoughts and actions, she's brought in to get the HYDRA goons to dismantle the earthquake devices.

• Alpha Bitch: Her possible actions even include "Judge Everyone", "Remain Stunning", and "Scoff at Peons".
• Compelling Voice: She can compel men to do anything she wishes.
  • As Supreme Enchantress, she becomes irresistible...to animals. Even Squirrel Girl points it out to her.
• Deadpan Snarker: Especially towards Loki.
• Functional Magic: Her ability as a sorceress.
• It's All About Me: One of her voice clips is "Everything but me is irrelevant."
• Long Hair Is Feminine: Amora has long blonde hair, and her powers are also the most feminine, relying upon power derived from femininity and allure.
• Our Mermaids Are Different: She dresses up as one once Attuma is defeated in Legends Assembled, in order to seduce his undersea troops and take over his kingdom.
• Pet the Dog: She has a soft spot for animals. When Dr. Strange summons Mystic Beings that attack evil magic, Enchantress is worried until Strange tells her she's safe - he knows she feeds the campus pets when nobody's looking. She also threatens the Collector to stay away from the pets, saying that they're the only reason she still sticks around.
• Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Wasp can barely get along with her due to all of Enchantress' put-downs. In turn, Loki never passes up a chance to insult Enchantress. Enchantress also has trouble whenever another diva shows up, such as Tigra or Ayesha, and they start sniping at each other.
• Token Evil Teammate: Even moreso than Loki, as she often takes over the minds of her classmates and is quite rude to them.
  • When Madame Hydra tried to recruit her, she rejected the offer...only because she could tell Madame Hydra wasn't willing to let Enchantress be anything more than another pawn.

Steve Rogers/Captain America

Voiced by: Dean Panaro

If we stick together, nothing can stop us!

A super-strong soldier and boy scout from WWII, Steve is recruited by the Academy to locate Fury after he's kidnapped by HYDRA.

• All Elections Are Serious Business: He runs for Class President soon after being recruited. Tony says he can just have the position if he wants it, but Steve insists on following the proper democratic process.
• Always Someone Better: Him to... well, every guy on campus. Steve is naturally altruistic, handsome, skilled in combat, and a natural leader, not mention a Clueless Chick-Magnet who attracts girls like honey. Just about every guy in the game is jealous of him to some degree, wanting to be him. The only thing stopping this from becoming a truly major problem is the fact that Cap is a Humble Hero to the highest degree.
• Beware the Honest Ones: When first recruited, Cap managed to cause as much trouble for Fury's secret-keeping as Black Widow does, thanks to believing in government transparency and naively thinking that Fury valued the same. Though there is the occasional hint that he's deliberately Trolling Fury when he does this, forcing him to be more honest with the students.
• Blood Knight: A bit. He reacts with glee when he notices an upcoming attack on the academy by Hydra, even saying that he hopes they bring a tank.
• Blue Oni: To Tony's red.
• Chick Magnet: Most of the girls in the Academy have a crush on him, including Janet, Natasha, Amora, Kamala, and Sharon.
• Fish out of Temporal Water: He's missed a lot since he was frozen in ice after World War 2. One of his tasks is "Catch Up on Recent History," and he comments that he can probably beat everyone at pool since that game actually did exist in his time.
• Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Blond and among the most honest and virtuous of the characters.
• Humble Hero: He doesn't brag about his abilities. That doesn't stop people like Sam and Tony from feeling insecure around him anyway.
• In-Series Nickname: "America-Man"
• Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Cap carries his shield with him after you get it back from debris.
• Nice Guy: One of the kindest heroes at the Academy.
• Super-Soldier: Again, due to the Serum.
• Super-Strength: Thanks to the Super Serum he was given years ago.

Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel

Voiced by: Priyanka Chopra

+5 superhero costume of dexterity!

A young girl from Jersey City with the power to stretch her body and change her size. Though initially recruited to AIM Academy, she changes her mind and joins Avengers Academy instead due to being a fan of all the heroes there.

• Age Lift: Averted. Where all the other heroes were revised to be younger college students, Kamala's already a high schooler in her own comics and kept the same age here.
• Ascended Fangirl: Her reputation as an Avengers fangirl precedes her, as even Hank Pym reads her fanfics. Her fangirlism is also why AIM was so desperate to recruit her, as they wanted to demonstrate their nerd superiority but recognized that Kamala's rivaled their own.
• Education Mama: In one of her minor quests, she says her parents won't let her do anything unless she gets straight As. They're also on the strict side in the sense that they insist that a chaperone be present when she goes on dates.
• Joisey: She's from Jersey and proud of it. One of her voice clips is "Do not talk smack about New Jersey."
• Rubber Woman: Thanks to her size-shifting powers, she can extend her limbs and change the size of her fists.
• Shipper on Deck: For Steve and Carol. She even coined the Idiosyncratic Ship Name "American Marvel" for them.
• Sizeshifter: Her main power.
• Squee: Let's out a huge one after being invited to the Academy.
  • Let's out an even bigger one when Captain Marvel is recruited.
• Teach Her Anger: One of her character quests involves getting into a fight with Loki. It's all part of Odin's plan to make her fight to her hardest because true villains won't be holding back .
• Vocal Evolution: At some point, all her voice clips were revised to be pitched a bit higher than they originally were.

Tony Masters/Taskmaster

Voiced by: Adam Montoya

The things I do for the friends I can't stand!

A young man with the power to copy the skills of others, Taskmaster is recommended for the Academy by Loki. He only seeks to improve his skills, having left Hydra because he ran out of challenges.

• Above Good and Evil: In one of his original voice clips, he claims that "Good and evil are both annoying." In his replacement voice clips and quest cutscenes, however, he's more of a Card-Carrying Villain.
• Adaptational Villainy: In the comics, he's a professional and will work for anyone, good or bad. Here, he's basically a thug.
• Blade Enthusiast: His special unlock item is Throwing Knives, and when you complete the credits goal for him he asks Pepper how many knives he can buy with the money.
• Blood Knight: "I really hope this is leading to a fight!"
• Good Scars, Evil Scars: He has a straight scar going down the right side of his face, over his eye and eyebrow.
• Loony Fan: Comes off this way towards Steve. He watched all of his old war films in order to get all of Cap's moves right, and only agreed to come to the Academy because he was able to meet with Steve. That being said, he also said that he wants to defeat him so that he can be the best.
• Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: He adds a shield to his Level 5 costume.
• The Other Darrin: When first released, Taskmaster's voice clips were deep-voiced and completely serious. Within a week, they were completely replaced with new ones that were neither; the majority of clips have the same dialogue but sound a lot more deranged and some have new lines altogether.
• Power Copying: Can replicate the physical skills of anyone he sees.
• Remember the New Guy?: One of his usual quips when you click on him is "Remember me?"
• Smug Super: "I do everything you do, only better."
• Token Evil Teammate: He's only at the Academy for his own gain and is pretty rude to everyone else.

Scott Lang/Ant-Man (II)

Superheroes have the best stuff to steal!

A thief with the power to shrink and communicate with ants. Natasha has him join the academy in the hopes that he can help her spy on Fury.

• Adaptational Villainy: Somewhat. Most versions of Scott Lang are good men who sometimes make bad decisions. The Academy version is a thief first and foremost, but he still acts like a decent guy and is friendly with the other students.
• Animal Motifs: Ants, of course.
• Animal-Themed Superbeing: Take a wild guess.
• Better with Non-Human Company: One of his actions is "Visit Friends". It has him running around campus with his ants.
• The Other Darrin: In mid-April 2016, his lines were all re-recorded by another voice actor. This is likely the result of then-recent accusations against Toby Turner by his ex April Fletcher.
• Sizeshifter: His main power.
• Speaks Fluent Animal: Can communicate with ants. Most of his friends are ants.
  Scott: After this party, I'm going to an ant party.

Maria Hill

I don't have time for fun.

A SHIELD agent in training. She's incredibly loyal to Fury, and unimpressed with all the crazy superpowered people she's surrounded by.

• Action Girl: Naturally, as a SHIELD agent.
• Badass Normal: "Powers are a crutch!"
• Important Haircut: Her hair gets progressively shorter as she ranks up.
• Offhand Backhand: When she goes to the target range, one of her animations involves shooting the target without looking back.
• Teacher's Pet: Her ingratiation of Nick Fury and tattletale tendencies do not endear her to other students, especially Black Widow and Quake.
• Teen Super Spy: Thanks to the Age Lift.
• With Us or Against Us: Says "You're either with me, or against me!" word-for-word in one of her voice clips.

Greer Nelson/Tigra

Voiced by: Bella Thorne

I'm not breaking my pretty little claws over this.

A supermodel who was also magically transformed into a tiger-woman. Janet brings her on to model her clothing line, after trying to use Enchantress as her model didn't work out.

• Adaptational Modesty: In the comics, she usually wears little more than a bikini. Her initial costume here doesn't show quite so much skin (or fur, in her case), and she proceeds to cover up even more as she ranks up.
• Cat Girl: Half woman, half tiger.
• Heavy Sleeper: She has a "catnap" action where rests in the quad. Black Widow is even jealous of her ability to ignore everything around her like that.
• Pretty in Mink: Her rank 5 outfit has her wearing a tiger-print fur coat.

Bruce Banner/The Hulk

HULK LEARN NEW SKILLSET!

A young man who was transformed into a super-strong but somewhat-uncontrollable green monster in a science experiment. He comes to the Academy to train, as well as help remove debris left behind from the timefog. He's available from the start as an early unlock premium character, but can also be unlocked for free later on.

• Amazing Technicolor Population: He's green, naturally.
• Hulk Speak: Naturally.
• Large Ham: He's voiced by John Cena, what do you expect?
• Mascot: No matter what the event is, Hulk's face is always on the app icon.
• No Indoor Voice: He shouts all of his lines, unsurprisingly.
• Red Oni: The loud, angry red to She-Hulk's mellow blue.
• Shapeshifter Mode Lock: Apparently he's been stuck as the Hulk for a while, and nobody is sure how to get Banner back out. He does eventually manage to reverse this during Monsters Unleashed, in the form of a "Bruce Banner" alternate costume.
• Sophisticated as Hell: He'll often throw in somewhat larger words into his lines, which clash with his hulkspeak.

I was climbing walls before it was cool.

A former agent of HYDRA, Jessica is a spy who also has the powers of flight, energy blast, and wall-crawling. When she first arrives at the school she must work to prove to her fellow students that she's on their side.

• The Ace: As noted in one of her quotes.
  Jessica: I fight, glide, climb walls, and speak eight languages. What do you do?
• Action Girl: Comes with the territory of being a hero.
• Animal Motifs: Spiders, naturally.
• Animal-Themed Superbeing: Has the powers of a spider.
• Combat Parkour: Her agility lets her leap onto rooftops without difficulty.
• Cool Shades: Her glasses turn yellow at rank 3, and then red at rank 5.
• Double Agent: One of her quotes when you put her on missions.
  Why does everyone think I'm still a double agent?
• Hand Blast: One of her abilities is shooting venom blasts from her wrists.
• Heel–Face Turn: She pulls one just before arriving at the Academy, as she used to go to the HYDRA school. It causes a lot of people not to trust her for her first few missions.

The Vision

A synthezoid created by Tony Stark, the Vision arrives to hone his abilities and become a DJ.

• Amazing Technicolor Population: He has red and green skin.
• Badass Cape: Gains one in his final outfit; it's a yellow jacket in earlier ranks.
• Deadpan Snarker: Possesses an understated sense of humour, often missed by others who think he is being literal.
• Eye Beams: Thanks to the solar gem in his forehead.
• Famed In-Story: The Vision's DJ skills are known throughout the universe. Yondu, who resides elsewhere in the galaxy, is starstruck when they meet.
• Insistent Terminology: He's a "synthezoid", not a robot.
• Intangible Man: One of his actions has him phase in and out of the campus grounds.
• Odd Friendship: Becomes friends with Loki when he trolls the latter into dancing.
• Ridiculously Human Robots: Practically a human already, he's so advanced.

James "Rhodey" Rhodes/War Machine

Voiced by: Adam "Swoozie" Thorne

You can never have too many missiles.

An old friend of Tony's who joins the Academy in order to become as strong as him. Tony builds him his own suit so that he can measure up.

• Hero of Another Story: Rhodey is insistent about not being labelled Tony's Sidekick. In fact, his storyline is about banding together with other traditionally supporting characters, and proving they are not sidekicks. Ironically, Rhodey's story quests are not available to all players, as he is a premium character purchase, so he appear chiefly in the main storylines as Tony's sidekick.
• More Dakka: He is really proud of the amount of weapons he has on his suit.
• Powered Armour: Thanks to Tony. Like him, he also builds it up as he gains rank.

Baron Helmut Zemo

The Zemo name is legendary.

Leader of the Masters of Evil and former Hydra Academy student, Baron Zemo aligns himself with Loki behind the scenes in the hopes of destroying the Avengers and the Academy. He was made a purchasable character two weeks after the game's release, but only for a few days. He later reappears towards the end of the Civil War event.

• Adaptational Heroism: To a degree. He still lusts after power and wishes to control the world, but after some talks with Fury and researching the Thunderbolts, he's just as willing to try and reach his goals with heroism and teamwork as he is with classic Hydra methods. This is something the comics character did, however while that suffered Status Quo Is God, here it sticks.
• Composite Character: Though this is ostensibly Helmut Zemo -mention of his father aside, the fact he turned good is something only Helmut did- but his outfit design is clearly modelled after his father, Heinrich Zemo. He even gets the baggy mask as his five-star look.^note though, in the comics, Helmut did start wearing a mask that looks like this, but during that time he'd also regressed to villainy, joined HYDRA, and began acting more like his father, so the Composite Character thing is something started in the comics. They also mention that his mask is glued to his face, whereas Helmut has long been able to remove mask, he's just so viciously scarred underneath he often doesn't want to.
• The Corrupter: Partially - although Loki was already a little evil, it's with Zemo's encouragement that he starts plotting to destroy the Academy.
• Expressive Mask: It has to be, since it's glued to his face.
• The Faceless: Thanks to his purple mask being glued to his face with Adhesive X.
• In-Series Nickname: "Baron Purple"
• Once Done, Never Forgotten: One part of his family legacy that he'd like people to forget is how both he and his father glued their masks to their faces.
• Promoted to Playable: He appears as a side character in some of Loki's missions, but was later made a purchasable character.
• Start My Own: His first response to being kicked out of Hydra was try and start his own version of the organization. But since he's trying to recruit Avengers Academy students, it isn't going so well.
• Token Evil Teammate: Is a potential student at the Academy, but is still openly loyal to Hydra and wants to rebuild it.

Daisy Johnson/Quake

Don't stress me out.

A young SHIELD agent in training with the ability to cause vibrations. She doesn't have the best control over her abilities yet, which makes her nervous around others.

• Action Girl: Naturally, since she is a SHIELD agent in training. She's the top of her SHIELD class.
• Afraid of Their Own Strength: In a riff of her Agents of SHIELD characterization, her abilities are initially out of control, which leads to her fear of socialization. As she ranks up, her costume gauntlets are reinforced.
• Age Lift: Averted. Daisy's age is already around her early/mid-twenties in both the comics and the MCU, and so doesn't need as much adjusting as other characters.
• Bad Vibrations: Her powerset includes the ability to create these.
• Big Eater: One of her listed skills is "inhuman metabolism."
• Dishing Out Dirt: She can use her powers to form rocks and rubble from the earth.
• Grew a Spine: Daisy's story sees her develop from a shy, unsure introvert into a worthy (future) leader of the Secret Warriors.
• Power Incontinence: Daisy isn't very good at controlling her powers. In fact, Tony reinforced her dorm room with vibranium to protect it from any of her accidental vibrations. A year before she enrolled in Avengers Academy, she accidentally caused a bridge to collapse.
• Shrinking Violet: She's a little shy around other people. In fact, she even has "Social Event Evader" listed as one of her skills.
  Janet: (upon meeting Daisy) I love that you're so shy! Is it because you're afraid that if someone gets too close to you, you might accidentally shake them so hard their skin rips off and their bones disintegrate?!
  • Daisy's quest storylines see her grow out of this trait, as she gradually becomes more confident and enlists other heroes to help her. She even calls Fury out on a number of issues.
• Teen Super Spy: Due to her Age Lift, she's college-aged in this game.

Phil Coulson

I love superheroes. I also love figuring out how to dismantle them.

Agent of SHIELD and all-around fanboy, Phil Coulson was on his way to the Academy when he was kidnapped by M.O.D.O.K.

• Adaptation Dye-Job: Unlike the original and previous adaptations where he's a balding middle-aged man, the teenage version here actually has hair.
• Ascended Fanboy: Like Kamala, he was a fan of the heroes before he was invited to the Academy.
• Badass in a Nice Suit: His level 3 form has him put on a business suit.
• BFG: He's packing a bazooka he scavenged during the Chitauri attack that looks similar to the one he packed in The Avengers (2012).
• In-Series Nickname: "Bill Coldstone". He also says he has the nickname "Cheese" in one of his voice clips (a detail taken from his comics version).
• Teen Superspy

Peggy Carter

I know my value.

An old colleague of Captain America's in World War II, as well as Sharon Carter's aunt. She was brought forward in time to the Academy when Tony tried to make a time portal to contact his father Howard, but wound up getting the wrong person. She was released as a premium character to tie into the Captain America: Civil War home release, but through a daily login players could gradually reduce the price until she was free. She was later re-released as a premium unlock for the Legends Assembled event.

• Badass Longcoat: Her Level 5 outfit gives her a long blue trenchcoat.
• Fish out of Temporal Water: She was very recently pulled out of the past through a time portal, so she doesn't know much about the present day.
• Good-Looking Privates: She puts on her old SSR military uniform for Legends Assembled, leaving Steve speechless.
• I Choose to Stay: After she learns that she stopped Leviathan in the past, Cap says she should go back to her time cause the world needs her. She chooses to stay, not knowing if she'll be able to make it back.
• Iconic Outfit: Unlike most students, she doesn't have a superhero outfit that she wears regularly in other media. Instead, she wears the blue suit and red hat from the ads and opening scenes of her own TV series.

Bobbi Morse/Mockingbird

I'm my own agent.

A SHIELD agent who has been given the same Super-Soldier serum as Captain America, and now seeks to learn more about it. Bobbi was added to the game shortly before the A-Force event, unlockable by a daily login.

• Deadpan Snarker: Her codename is Mockingbird after all.
• Domino Mask: She replaces her glasses with one in her Level 5 costume.
• Drives Like Crazy: She has a can give the boys rides on a sky-cycle — and nearly throws them off dozens of times in the process.
• Official Couple: Implied with Hawkeye, though unlike Spider-Man/Mary Jane and Hulkling/Wiccan, it's not explicit. They had some shared interactions though, and the aforementioned Sky-Cycle ride action shows her doing it with him in the action.

The 2.0 update revised the main game's roster to be Iron Man, Wasp, Loki, Black Widow, Bucky Barnes, Falcon, Enchantress, Spider-Woman, Captain America, Mockingbird, Tigra, Phil Coulson, Jocasta, War Machine, Hawkeye, Maria Hill, Ms. Marvel, Quake, Wiccan, Winter Soldier, Black Panther, Thor (Odinson), and Voyager. Clint Barton/Hawkeye

I like to play dumb sometimes. Makes me feel smart.

A young man raised by circus performers, skilled with a bow and arrow, and best friends with Natasha. After being kept away on various missions and only able to visit occasionally, he can finally join the Academy as an early-access prize in the Ultron Revolution event; and became a regular unlock in 2.0.

• Advertised Extra: He appears in several marketing materials, but nothing was mentioned of his presence in-game save for a few cameos. Eventually, he was officially added to the hero lineup.
  • The Ultron event reveals that he's spent all of his time since the release up until the event working on secret missions for Nick Fury.
• Early-Bird Cameo: He pops up briefly in the Surf, Sun, and Mischief and British Invasion events. He's also heavily referenced in the Spider-Man event, as other heroes borrow his sky-cycles. He also appears in the Doctor Strange arc by going through one of the many portals laid out. The ultimate reward for the Ultron event is getting to unlock him early.
• Heroes Love Dogs: He references his dog Lucky, and his appearance in British Invasion is to chat with the British Bulldog.
• Improbable Aiming Skills: His power.
• In the Hood: His Level 5 outfit has him put on a hood.
• Like Brother and Sister: Him and Kate Bishop are very close, but they're never anything more than friends.
• Official Couple: Implied with Mockingbird, though unlike several others it's never made official. They do have some actions that Ship Tease it heavily, though.

Thor Odinson

Bring the thunder.

An Asgardian prince who can control thunder and lightning. For most of the game he is lost in the time fog, though eventually he was made available early for players willing to spend shards and for those who earned him as a prize in the Thor: Ragnarok event. While planned to be part of the main game all along, he wasn't added until late in 2.0.

• Advertised Extra: For the first several months of the games release he was unplayable, due to being locked until level 57 and the levels capped below that. In August he was made available early for a shard-payment, but still isn't accessible in the regular game.
• Lovable Jock: Implied to be one in the trailers.

James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes/The Winter Soldier

Being a hero is overrated.

Steve's friend from WWII, he was believed to be dead until he returned suffering from severe psychological torture and brainwashing. In this game, he channels that angst into songwriting. He first appeared at the Academy during the Civil War and Multiverse events as a early access prize, but became available during the main progression in the 2.0 update.

• Artificial Limbs: Has a bionic left arm made of metal, which can be used to crush and rip objects.
• Brainwashed and Crazy: Is deployed as a weapon against Avengers Academy, and his old friend Steve.
• Dreadful Musician: Although not to the Suckiness Is Painful degree that this trope usually implies, Bucky's cutscenes imply that he's a terrible singer/musician, with everyone except him aware of it. Not even Steve is willing to compliment his singing, instead outright ignoring the singing part to compliment Bucky on something else.
• Emo: His cutscenes paint him as emotional (if somewhat subdued), sensitive, and withdrawn. He's also very invested in the arts, playing the guitar and writing both songs and poetry.
• Guyliner: Has a thick layer of kohl around his eyes. Though when Wasp compliments him on it, he explains that it's not eyeliner, it's natural.
  Wasp: ...
  Bucky: ...
  Wasp: Let's dance so that this isn't awkward!
• Harmless Villain: The Winter Soldier is talked up by both the Academy and HYDRA, especially Red Skull, as a lethal killer to be deployed as an ultimate weapon against the Academy. However, when the story dialogues do involve Bucky, they feature him as being Emo and mostly non-aggressive. In fact, beyond a brief dialogue scene where he appears to be injured by Steve, there are no game mechanics where the player actually fights against Bucky. Tony and Steve are more concerned about finding a way to rescue Bucky from Red Skull's clutches.
  • The storyline, however, does emphasize that Bucky committed a lot of heinous acts while previously under HYDRA's control.

• Ship Tease: He's seriously crushing on Black Widow, and even wrote a song about her.

Galina Nemirovsky/Crimson Dynamo

You can challenge me, and you can be crushed.

A Russian woman who pilots her own Powered Armor and both hates and loves Stark in equal measure. She first appeared during Armor Wars as an "Early Access" character, but remained event-exclusive even after the change to 2.0.

• Husky Russkie: Of multiple Russian characters appearing around the same time as Armor Wars, Dynamo is the one who fits this trope as the most physically intimidating and most focused on brute force.
• Legacy Character: It's mentioned that she's not the first Crimson Dynamo; and the Mark I and II armor could be purchased with shards during Armor Wars.
• Powered Armor: She pilots the Russian Soviet Superscience knockoff of Iron Man.
• Stalker with a Crush: She downgrades to this once recruited, as her aggressive attitude doesn't get as much focus (though that could change once the story catches up to where she'd normally be unlocked). One of her actions even has her literally stalk Tony around campus.
• Yandere: She goes into detail about how she intends to inflict major bodily harm on Tony... and then romance him.

Valerie Vector/Voyager

A founding Avenger from the 1960s that was erased from history. The comics later reveal that this is false and she's actually the Grandmaster's daughter, but the game never addresses which origin is her true one in this continuity. She was originally a login bonus character when the 2.0 update first launched, and was later added to late-game combat levels to be recruited there.

NPC Academy Staff

Nick Fury

Voiced by: John Eric Bentley

The headmaster of the Academy, Fury wants to train his students to become Earth's mightiest heroes...if only they'd actually go to class once in a while.

• Badass Longcoat: Wears one as part of all his outfits.
• Bald of Authority: Takes inspiration from the MCU, Samuel L. Jackson version of the character.
• The Comically Serious: He's sometimes used for this. One of the first actions he gets after being recruited in Legends Assemble is riding a waterslide, scowling with his arms crossed the whole way.
• Eyepatch of Power: His most recognizable feature. Hulk refers to him as "Patch Man".
• In-Series Nickname: Patch Man. Not just by Hulk, but also by Loki as well.
• Right Hand of Doom: During Legends Assembled he pulls out an Infinity Gauntlet as his secret weapon, and wears it permanently as part of his max-rank outfit.
• Trademark Favourite Food: Pancakes.

Odin Borson

Thor and Loki's father who joins the Academy as an adviser on all things Asgardian.

• Adaptational Heroism: Odin is usually presented as a poor father in the comics, and the during the time of the game's release is a clear-cut villain in the Thor comics, fighting against both his own wife and the new Thor. Here he is much more mellow, is trying his best to raise Loki into a proper god, and is trying to enlist the other students in helping him find out why Thor is missing.
• Big Good: A generally benevolent power, who is the omnipotent character on the heroes' side.
• Eyepatch of Power: He wears an eyepatch just like Nick Fury.

Hank Pym/Ant-Man (I)/Giant-Man

A scientist with size-shifting capabilities, who runs the laboratory and is studying the timefog.

• Catchphrase: "That's science!"
• Mad Scientist: He even says that if you're not putting the world at risk, you're doing super-science wrong.
• Sizeshifter: When students are using his lab he'll appear and grow giant sized so he can sit on the wall and observe.
• Obfuscating Insanity: It's implied that his madness is an act to keep the students from asking him too much about the timefog.

Iron Legion Drones

A series of robots that Tony built to run help out around the Academy, including tending the bar at Club A and as target practice in the Robo Dojo.

• Mecha-Mook: Robot minions for the students to practice attacks on.

The British Bulldog

An adorable dog that Wasp brings to the Academy in a misguided attempt to break the curse the Ebony Blade holds over Black Knight.

• Companion Cube: Everyone talks to the bulldog as if it talks back.
• Cuteness Proximity: It's so adorable it prompts Nick Fury to tell it all of his secrets, Loki to explain his plan to expose Fury, and Hawkeye to consider finally joining the academy.
• Evil-Detecting Dog: It growls at Loki, but they seem to come to an understanding.
• Team Pet: For the whole Academy.

NPC Villains

Scientist Supreme

The head of AIM Academy, who suggests a "friendly competition" with Avengers Academy. However, his failed attempt at recruiting Ms. Marvel reveals that he and his school are as dangerous as HYDRA.

• Abusive Parents: Towards M.O.D.O.K.
• The Faceless: He wears a large yellow HAZMAT helmet over his face.
• In-Series Nickname: "SkinTight SourCream"
  Scientist Supreme: That nickname is a stretch even by your standards...
• Mad Scientist: Is one, and runs a school full of them.
• Surrounded by Idiots: He's quite upset that AIM was unable to recruit Ms. Marvel.

Thanos

A conqueror who attacked the Collector's Cosmic Conservatory to claim the Infinity Gauntlet. During the Guardians of the Galaxy event, he sends forces under Ronan's command to assault Avengers Academy.

• The Dreaded: He manages to even scare Singularity, a living galaxy, across galaxies!
• Greater-Scope Villain: For the Guardians of the Galaxy event, and implied to be one for the game as a whole.

Other NPCs

"Newscaster Supreme"

A newscaster for World News, she appears at the beginning and end of each event or storyline to explain to the public what crazy antics are now occurring thanks to the Academy, AIM, HYDRA, or anyone else stirring up trouble.

With Thanos' arrival imminent as of Return of A-Force, she decides that she can no longer stand on the sidelines and signs on with the Academy, also pressuring some former enemy minions to take a stand alongside her.

• All Girls Like Ponies: During the Doctor Strange arc, she hopes that with all the dimensions coming apart that she gets a unicorn.
• Appropriated Appellation: During the Doctor Strange arc, she responds to Strange's title of "Sorcerer Supreme" by declaring herself "Newscaster Supreme". The name stuck.
• Canon Foreigner: She was created exclusively for the game.
• Deadpan Snarker: She manages to get in some good jibes at Academy villains and students whenever they're the subject of a headline.
• The Dreaded: When JJ Jameson insults his rivals at World News, Pepper is able to cow him into submission simply by saying "I'll tell Newscaster Supreme you said that."
• No Name Given: She remains nameless.
• Promoted to Playable: As of Return of A-Force.
• A Rare Sentence: During the Hell's Kitchen event, she comments that of all the things that have happened from alien invasions to civil wars, magic ninjas are the most normal thing to her.
• The Reveal: At the end of Return of A-Force, she reveals that she's actually an undercover SHIELD agent, placed in the news industry to report on items that Fury wants the public to be informed of.
• Unfazed Everyman: After so many things going on at the Academy (Gamma mutant attack, alien invasion, HYDRA attack, different alien invasion) she's gotten used to a lot. By the Doctor Strange event, she's hoping that with the dimensional rifts opening up that she gets a unicorn.
