    Yamato Naoe

Voiced by: Hiroshi Kamiya (anime, Japanese) and Josh Grelle (English)
The protagonist of Majikoi, Yamato is the co-founder of the Kazama Family, but not the leader. Surprisingly for the protagonist of an eroge, he emphasizes trickery and blatant cheating over any semblance of honor. Despite this, he still cares deeply for his friends and is a good guy in overall.
  • Accidental Pervert:
    • Normally averted, but he keeps stumbling into the bathroom when Chris is trying to take a shower.
    • Worried that he's running late, he rushes into the bathroom and runs into Stacy, Lee and Azumi bathing. Figuring he's going to get the crap kicked out of him no matter what, he decides to make the most of it. Azumi actually agrees with him!
    • One of the first clear problems in Homura's route is that it has to rely on Yamato walking in on her getting changed. Multiple times.
    • And then there's that part where Yamato gropes Misago, Tsubame's mother when he mistakes her for the latter. Tsubame is definitely not pleased.
    • Happens twice to Haou. The first time they're riding down the road on her motorcycle and when he's desperately holding on for purchase he accidentally grabs her chest instead of her waist. He can't hear her over the wind and doesn't know what he was grabbing. He gets away unscathed. The second time is after Haou knocks him out and he wakes up while she's changing. He does not get away unscathed.
    • Basically, anytime he walks in a bathroom in a route where a girl of the route is changing or someone they know.
  • The Ace: Yamato in Momoyo’s afterstory gets top grades, becomes student council president, has an increased popularity especially with girls and has a vastly extended social network which even includes Ageha coming to see him personally to deliver contact information.
  • Action Survivor: He's a normal guy surrounded by five martial artist girls who could all crush him. At best, his time dealing with them (especially Momoyo) has left him with superb dodging skills.
  • Anti-Hero: He's occasionally at odds with Chris because he favors cheating, lying and manipulation to get ahead when dealing with people. However, after beating her in a contest she comes to recognize that he's not doing it because he's selfish, incompetent or lazy, but because he wants to help his friends.
  • The Atoner: Yamato throughout Agave feels constantly guilty that he rejected Koyuki's friendship overture a decade before, leaving her isolated in an abusive situation that eventually broke her.
  • Attempted Rape: Though it's Played for Laughs, there's a scene in Lee's route where Yamato, Lee and Stacy come back from a night out drinking. When both Lee and Stacy fall asleep, Yamato's penis starts talking to him (yes) and tells him to make a move on them. If the player chooses Stacy, Yamato will begin making out with her and grope her breasts. Stacy wakes up during this and is clearly very uncomfortable with it, but is too drunk to fight back. Azumi comes and knocks Yamato out before he takes things too far.
  • Attractive Bent-Gender: Given that Yamato looks just like his mother minus the breasts, crossdressing in A-5 proves pretty popular, though not to the same extent as Moro.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": Forgetting that Tatsuko likes him far too much to really try to hurt him, Yamato dodges away from Tatsuko until she catches him in what she calls a bear hug… except she’s really just nuzzling him to her chest, apparently unaware that she doesn’t have the heart to put any strength into it. “Oh no, the pain. What a powerful attack.” Benkei is not amused.
  • Battle Butler: In the Kuki maid routes, he begins training to become more well-balanced in his skills and thus get promoted higher. He has a talent for ninjutsu and Razor Floss and seems to be shaping up to become Claudio 2.0. In Azumi's route he gets up to rank 21 by the end and in Stacy's he's in the 600s after deciding to settle with that for the moment.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: He tends to bicker with Chris more than getting any sort of romantic scenes most of the time. He just seems to like making fun of her too much.
  • Berserk Button: He's got three:
    • The first one is if someone plays with his pet hermit crabs.
    • The second one is if someone insults his father who ran away from Japan.
    • The third one is if someone insults his friends.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Yamato can summon the H scene BGM.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: As intelligent and crafty as he is, the one thing he lacks is motivation. While he could be part of Class 2-S if he put some effort into it, most of his friends are in Class 2-F, so he normally doesn't have a reason to try. However, in several routes such as Monshiro's he does join Class 2-S.
  • Butt-Monkey: Has some tendencies in the anime.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: Asked out on a date by Mayo and agrees primarily because the idea sounds amusing while at the same time lamenting her lack of breasts. Well, that could be one reason he seems to prefer the likes of Momoyo and Benkei to, say, Wanko and Kokoro.
  • Captain Obvious: Lee! I have information. Youshi is a complete and hopeless pervert.
  • The Charmer:
    • He emphasizes acquiring social connections and manipulation, making him quite popular in a low key way and allowing him to talk most people into what he wants eventually. He's also able to use his charm to win over any girl he's interested in, though Azumi in particular takes a long time.
    • In Rinchuu’s route, it even brings him to the attention of the Ryouzanpaku mercenaries, who want to recruit him as the Ryouzanpaku talent manager when they see how quickly he manages to do things like get Kousonshou to reveal her secret technique or make friends with them, which actually weirds them out. Especially Youshi, who shows no romantic interest in him but is rather amazed at how well he gets along with Rinchuu, Kousonshou and Bushou.
  • The Chessmaster: A refreshing change from the usual type of male lead. Rather than valuing fair play and honor he believes that it's best to cheat, manipulate and trick the opposition, earning him the nickname Tactician.
  • Chick Magnet
    • Lampshaded by Cap. while discussing why Umeko-sensei likes Yamato. He suggest that Yamato has an aura that makes him likeable by older people. As Yamato dismissess the idea, Momoyo walks in, and starts to hug and lick him. Yamato immediately starts to reconsider if he has such an aura, specifically affecting older girls.
    • Momoyo’s after story finally does hint that Yamato does have his own fair share of admirers rather than just big sister types. Of course, this is also based in a scenario where he decides to go all out, charm everyone and get top grades. As the Student Council President, he has a lot of fangirls (especially among the first years) and even girls from other schools coming after him.
    • Hell, let's just list every girl who he can romance or shows an interest in him: Momoyo, Miyako, Kazuko, Yukie, Chris, Mayo, Chika, Umeko, Margit, Koyuki, Kokoro, Azumi, Iyo, Kosugi, Yumiko, Tsubame, Monshiro, Stacy, Lee, Yoshitsune, Benkei, Seiso, Tatsuko, Ami, Angel, Ootomo and Rinchuu...yep, he is the very definition of this trope.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Yamato likes setting up traps and feints, which some of his older opponents frown on. Not that they have anything against pragmatism, but it shows that in pure power he’s not able to match up to his opponent. Even without any combat skills, he's able to keep Azumi occupied while Chris duels Margit through cunning use of terrain and setting up traps beforehand. Azumi even notes that the pitfall he set up would have contained a landmine on a real battlefield and thus would have killed her!
Yamato: I had no intention of fighting directly in the first place.
  • Cool Big Bro: In Benkei's route a fortune teller says that he's similar to the Japanese hero Minamoto no Yoritomo, who was the real Yoshitsune's older brother. She's delighted at the idea and asks if he's okay with being like her big brother, even using honorifics (you can choose to have her call Yamato "Onii-chan" or "Nii-sama"). It happens again in her own route, though if the player wishes Yamato can ask her to be even more formal, whereby she'll call him "Aniue".
  • Covert Pervert: Yamato's nearly as perverted as Yonpachi, but he hides it in front of girls to the extent that when he tells a single dirty joke, he actually surprises a laugh out of Chika because she didn't expect that from him. The girls even assume that the other more openly perverted guys are probably at fault for it! His sex drive is also normally very intense and in Benkei's route his 'sacred sword Kusanagi' eventually chastises him in a dream for not sleeping with her yet.
    • His wire attack in Stacy's route certainly seems to be unintentionally perverted since most of the characters he uses it on are girls and all of them seem to get aroused when he uses it on them. (Especially Miyako, who practically orgasms.)
  • Crazy-Prepared
    • He prepares for pretty much every contingency, which is probably best shown in events like the Kawakami war in Momoyo's route.
    • When doing something as simple as bringing Bushou some sweets, he has plans in place like bringing spare food to use as a decoy if Wanko tries to intercept his gift.
  • Cruel to Be Kind: Yamato breaks up with Chika cleanly even when he realizes how serious she was about the relationship. He could have kept going like she wanted, but it would have simply hurt more in the long run. In the original Majikoi he also pointedly acts lovey dovey in public in front of Miyako so that she knows she's out of the running. No need to string her along.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Of course.
  • Delayed Reaction: In the middle of Azumi’s wacky explanation for the mission where he and Aida were pretending to be a couple on their way to a wedding, she finally accepts his proposal. Still distracted by the ridiculous plot, it takes him a minute to realize what she just said.
  • Determinator: When his tricks run out, he will try to get by on willpower alone.
  • Distressed Dude: He says he's used to being kidnapped in Margit's route near the end.
  • Dogged Nice Guy
    • His first confession towards Momoyo fails, so he decides to up the ante, stop slacking off and prove himself.
    • Margit tries to reject him because she feels a relationship would interfere with her duty and because she thinks Yamato can do better, so he has to keep pursuing her. Eventually, he asks his father for advice which amounts to 'Go fuck her again.' Yamato follows the advice, but refuses to actually rape her or anything even though he knows that's what his father probably meant.
    • After both Hideo and Azumi fail with their respective unrequited loves, Yamato confesses to the latter and gets turned down flat by an irritated Azumi. He keeps trying for years and even gains a nickname out of it.
    • Yamato keeps persistently speaking with or even tracking down Takae. She doesn't dislike him – quite the opposite - and he isn't sure if he's attracted to her or not, but either way she quits running away after he saves her from poisoning when trying to hide out in the mountains so that she doesn't curse him. Even then, though, she rejects his confession, though for a different reason this time: She doesn't have the self esteem to be in a relationship until she can get back into martial arts. After alllll of that, they finally do start dating.
  • Doppelgänger Spin: He picks up ninjutsu on top of Razor Floss in Azumi's route and uses body double to avoid bullets.
  • The Dragon: Yamato has no real intention of stopping Haou from taking over the world so long as she's reasonably peaceful in her methods. She's far more likely to succeed with his assistance than she'd be without it. She even notes that he's taking the position from Marple, who would have otherwise become her strategist.
  • Dude, She's Like in a Coma
    • Momoyo's afterstory and Chris' route both have him start H scenes with them before they're even awake. The latter is especially uncomfortable given that she is not, in fact, okay at all with what he's doing.
    • Miyako's route has him keep going with their lovemaking after she's already gone unconscious from pleasure - and he goes at her again and again all night long while she's out cold.
      • After she wakes up she seems aroused by this, and is only upset at him over the part where her being unconscious meant she couldn't keep enjoying the sex like he got to.
    • Yamato kisses Lee in her sleep, but she isn’t angry since last night she did the same thing after he fell asleep.
  • Easily Forgiven
    • Averted with Koyuki in Agave after. When he tries to help her cope with being alone after Jun and Touma were arrested, she tells him he’s ten years too late.
    • The Itagakis don’t seem to mind him having seduced two of them and then ditching them afterward. In truth, Angel really is pretty pissed, which somehow leads to even more sex.
  • Everyone Has Standards; No matter how much he values tricks, deceit or outright conning people that he considers to be close acquaintances, he and the group take personal issue with the drug trade going on in the town.
  • Exact Words: Yamato’s second opponent asks him for a fight without drawing weapons when Yamato heavily favors use of wire to fight. He agrees and then before the fight wraps wire around himself as makeshift armor. He didn’t say he wouldn’t use the wire at all. Though he would cheat and use it if necessary. However, his opponent followed the rules so he did too.
  • Failed a Spot Check: He doesn't seem to have ever realized just how his parents' relationship works. He knows his father is amoral and controlling, but that his mother actually calls him master? Seems to have slipped under the radar.
  • Fetish: Yamato has an anal sex fetish. He also seems to have a bit of a sadistic streak when it comes to sex, but makes sure he doesn’t even come close to crossing the same lines his father clearly has.
  • Flanderization: Yamato grows more perfect and popular as the series continues. In the original story, he was equal or inferior to the likes of Aoi Touma in tactical ability and much less popular than the likes of Cap while he himself was only popular with slightly older women. By the time of S and especially the A fandisks, though, there are dozens of possible love interests available, most of whom don't really fall into that particular niche anymore. On the tactical front, he rather easily does things like winning six battles in a row during the war games, all against the strongest armies and without using his ace, Haou, to her full potential. How else could she show off her newly learned restraint?
  • Forceful Kiss
    • To Stacy to break her out of her funk with a 'strong impetus' he simply kisses her. It works, of course.
    • To keep Angel from killing him in Agave After, he kisses her forcefully. Things progress from there, much to her humiliation.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: Ten years ago, Koyuki gathered up all her courage and asked if she could play with him and the other Kazama family members. He said no. Repeatedly. He doesn't even remember until a very angry Aoi Touma reminds him, saying that if he had agreed just once she might not have become so broken.
  • The Gadfly: He really loves to pick on people that are gullible or highly emotional. He tells Chris the most absurd lies about Japan, acts as a demonic tutor for Wanko since it's more fun that way and picks on Haou mercilessly. Well, she did say she didn't want a Yes-Man strategist.
  • Generation Xerox: The A fandisc routes focusing on Yamato as part of the 999 Kuki attendants imply that he's shaping up to be Claudio 2.0. He prefers a balance of intelligence and strength rather than focusing on one or the other. In terms of combat, he uses wire just like Claudio because it's very flexible and allows for a lot of tricks and stratagems without relying heavily on the power or speed of the wielder. Finally, Yamato has always been one to emphasize social skills over power or even intelligence, making him almost seem like a butler in comparison to a bodyguard like Hume or an administrator like Azumi.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Yamato is actually jealous of Cap's status as The Ace and wants to actually beat him, but their abilities don't match up so they can't have a meaningful competition. Until Yamato beats him to winning Momoyo's heart, anyway.
  • Guile Hero: Bribes and cheating are standard operating procedure if it's to bring victory to the Kazama Family.
  • Handsome Lech: He's mildly popular at school and has a good reputation, though this is mostly because unlike Gakuto and Yonpachi he knows how to keep his mouth shut about his perversions.
  • Has a Type: Yamato likes the Cool Big Sis type and is usually uninterested in younger girls, though not to the same extent as Gakuto. He’s make an exception sometimes, but it’s always made clear that making an exception is all that he’s doing.
  • Heroic BSoD: Has a small moment in the Agave Route of the first game when Touma reminds him how he rejected Koyuki's friendhip. Miyako snaps him out of this by reminding him that he was a kid at the time and had no knowledge of the situation nor the consequences of his actions.
  • High-School Hustler: He gambles at school on a regular basis, and hides specific Mahjong tiles on himself at all times just in case. His network of contacts includes members of the teaching staff, which he calls upon at one point in order to... peek on girls during a hot springs visit.
  • Hopeless Suitor: Yamato has very onesided feelings towards Azumi in her route that at best annoy her. He tells her he’ll simply win her over with persistence and keeps at it over multiple timeskips spanning years with no progress. The only reason she tolerates it is because he overworked himself in her absence so she wouldn’t lose her job. After seven years, she still rejects his proposal, but he’s finally made a little bit of progress.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: With Mayo in her sub-route. Not in that he's huge, as he's average height, but she is absolutely miniscule.
  • If It's You, It's Okay: He has a strong preference for the older sister type like Momoyo, Margit or Tsubame and will show interest in other pretty girls. However, one thing he is not is a paedophile. That said, Monshiro is one of the main heroines of Majikoi S and despite the jokes at his expense if he starts dating her, he actually just likes her for herself and is waiting for her to grow older, knowing she'll be quite beautiful in the future.
  • Ignored Expert
    • After everyone wishes they could hear Yamato’s opinion while he’s captured, when they finally get the chance Moro decides to ignore Yamato and follow after him, getting himself captured and Momoyo maimed.
    • During the war games in A-2 he's working as Haou's tactician, but she completely ignores his strategies forcing him to try to compensate for the huge holes she leaves in their defenses. When she inevitably loses the match for her team, she gets mad at her soldiers for failing her, pointedly ignoring the obvious. Before it sinks in that she has to listen to him she needs to lose three easy matches in a row and then a fourth by forfeiture due to her troops abandoning her.
  • Ignore the Fanservice: While she certainly gets some amount of physical reaction out of him, Yamato is savvy enough to Miyako's ploys and seduction attempts that he won't fall for that sort of thing, leaving her firmly in the friendzone.
  • Improv Fu: If he has a fighting style of any sort, its this. Yamato relies on dodging and using his surroundings to his advantage during all fights.
  • Incest Subtext: Yamato thinks his mom is kinda hot.
  • Innocently Insensitive: In A-5 if you pick to go to town with Sheila you get her ending instead of Takae's. However, you have a chance to back out before actually going, at which point she gets really disappointed because Yamato was just joking. He doesn't notice.
  • In-Series Nickname:
    • Haou begins calling him Hanzonote  after her strategist in life.. She has a tendency to treat people she’s close to like this, though that only amounts to about two people. She doesn't do it often, however, and the point seems to have been to make a comparison with errors she's made before and how she's grown since she believed Hanzo betrayed her. While Marple seems pleased at her growing emotional maturation, the fact that Haou began referring to Yamato this way instead of Marple herself might have some implications for the future Bushido Plan, which Yamato has been supporting throughout the route without being fully aware of it.
    • In Azumi's route he's implied to be very popular among the servants and gets nicknamed the Rose Attendant thanks to his persistence in giving Azumi a rose every year to confirm his love for her. It's joked that rose petals even follow him when he walks.
    • In Tsubame's S route, she calls him Bed Yazuka. Considering how he is, it makes perfect sense.
  • I Shall Taunt You: Yamato upsets his second opponent with a single statement and then quietly watches him unravel due to being unable to land a punch or use his hidden weapons while in front of his boss and while on camera.
  • Keep the Reward: He’s on the winning team for the Kuki tournament, but turns down the money because it would make him look bad to accept money that would otherwise be used to supplement the Japanese budget.
  • Lazy Bum: Yamato is susceptible to Benkei’s aura, apparently, and in her presence will declare that he’s done his job as tactician well enough by taking a nap with her and keeping class S from making use of her. Together with Usami, they make the Lazy Bums Club.
  • Likes Older Women: His stated preference is for older sister types like Momoyo or Margit, but Majikoi being what it is means Mayucchi is just as much of a prospect, though he notes she'd normally be outside his strike zone.
  • Lima Syndrome: Upon seeing that Yamato seems to not just well but enjoying himself while in Itagaki custody, the Kazama Family suspect that he might try to invoke this one. Given that one of the four is already in love with him and one is pretty ditzy and obsessed with games, it’s not a bad plan. Ends up with a threesome when the older sister goes to work, leaving the younger pair too tired to notice his escape.
  • Master of None: In Seiso’s route, Yamato thinks to himself that while she might be impressed with his wide range of knowledge, he doesn’t know a great deal about any one particular subject.
  • Matchmaker Crush: Yamato falls for Azumi during the midpoint of his attempts to help her either win over Hideo or at least suffer an honorable defeat. He keeps trying, however, including going so far as arguing with Hideo and having to get knocked out by Azumi herself when she gets turned down.
  • Morality Chain: Haou is not particularly malevolent, but she's absolutely set on ruling the world. Yamato makes her take it slowly and somewhat peacefully, otherwise she was entirely prepared to fight the entire world single handed. Without him, she'd just get impatient and start attacking anyone who seemed like a rival or obstacle. Not that she'd succeed: She may be one of the top three characters in the setting, but even there's no way she could take on everyone even if you think she could take Momoyo or Hume.
  • Ninja: In Azumi's route, he goes looking for her when she's temporarily on break at her home village. A village elder spots him and remarks that he has a pretty good physique for this sort of thing and offers some training. Over a couple timeskips, he becomes quite good at it.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Yamato’s chuunibyou speech to Yoichi was recorded and played back on a massive level at the end of Koyuki route.
  • No Guy Wants to Be Chased: He often gets uncomfortable around girls who are too forward with him. Miyako is perpetually in the friend zone, Aki's attempts at him make him literally run away, Torako's well meaning but misguided attempts to 'help' him make him retreat and Rinchuu's supposed interest in him just makes him suspicious. Granted, he was right to not believe her.
  • Non-Action Guy
    • While an expert tactician, he is an extremely poor fighter compared to the rest of his peers at Kawakami High School.
    • That is until we get to Azumi's route in A-1. As a butler in the Kuki corporation, he eventually trains in Azumi's village as a ninja while undergoing personal training with Hume and Claudio. Combined with his natural tactical prowess and previous experience in dealing with Momoyo, he becomes badass enough to rescue Hideo from kidnappers and is able to single-handedly take on a terrorist group with their own expert martial artist.
  • "Not If They Enjoyed It" Rationalization
    • Angel is not exactly enthusiastic about Round Two while Yamato simply treats her protests as being a tsundere and eventually asks if she wants to stop. She doesn’t. Given that she’s kidnapped him before and just tried to kill him, sympathy is probably limited.
    • Pulled on Yamato himself by Miyako and Momoyo in the other Agave after scenario with them asking him the exact same thing.
    • Unable to think of another way to convince Chris not to go back to Germany and break up with him he enters her bedroom at night and simply has sex with her until she admits she doesn't want to go and agrees to stay.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: In the Agave route he pretends to believe that Usami Kyojin is the Big Bad, and he plays along. After a short performance, he then follows Touma, the real Big Bad.
  • Oblivious to Love: Consistently averted. He's not interested in Miyako (though he burns no bridges there) and keeps shooing her away because of that, not because he's stupid. With Mayucchi, he keeps a running tally in his head of how much her actions are motivated by love rather than kindness as they grow closer. With Chris, he can tell much quicker than she can that their bickering is getting much flirtier and quickly picks up on Chika's cues when she decides to take a shot at him rather than the popular boys she doesn't really have that much interest in. Played straight with Haou, but she gets her act together and confesses pretty quickly anyway.
  • Old Shame: In-universe example; His chuunibyou-nihilist phase is a source of immense embarrassment for him - to the point that, in Miyako's route, the Kazama Family discovering it horrifies him so much he doesn't even have the will to dodge Miyako's advances. When the whole school finds out about it in Koyuki's route, he's so humiliated and depressed by it that he skips school for several days. As it turns out though, this past side of him is what allows him to converse with the normally-standoffish Yoichi, who is basically what Yamato would have become had he not been broken out of his nihilism when younger.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The Kazama family is friendly to outsiders, but they don’t really invite people to their group. In Agave After, when a guilty Yamato extends an invitation to the gloomy and lonely Koyuki to join them during a gathering, even new guy Gen is shocked that Yamato would go so far.
  • Painting the Medium: If you keep visiting the hint corner in S Kosugi will begin to comment on having some interest in Yamato and he decides that since he keeps mysteriously visiting this place despite obviously knowing everything they're going to tell him he must be interested in her as well. Her 'route' in fact builds off of this. So basically, Yamato decides he clearly must be in love because the player is doing weird stuff that makes no sense.
  • Perspective Reversal: When his repeated confessions to Azumi are shot down with her saying she’s satisfied with a superior/subordinate relationship, he eventually laughs and says now he knows how Miyako felt.
  • Porn Stash: Momoyo stumbles across it at one point in her after story. He claims with a completely straight face that he was holding it for a friend. While he's almost certainly lying, this actually is the kind of thing he would do. In the visual novel when Momoyo actively goes looking for it he muses to himself that of course he saw that coming so he hid it elsewhere.
  • Professional Gambler: He's very crafty, leaving him second only to Cap when it comes to gambling. And trying to beat Cap when it comes to gambling is futile: Yamato only came in second place because Cap was dealt two royal flushes in a row.
  • Razor Floss: He learns to fight if he becomes a Kuki attendant and favors using wires because they're an extremely flexible if odd weapon that can easily be used to set up the traps and tricks that he favors. In Azumi's route, it's supplemented with ninjutsu.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Cap's red.
  • Remember When You Blew Up a Sun?: Everyone definitely remembers Yamato leading class 2F to an amazing victory over the forces of 2S while outnumbered and outgunned.
  • Sarcasm Failure
Yamato: Y-you’re going to clean your room all by yourself?!
Chris: Don't worry. I've got this under control.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: Yamato maintains an extensive network of acquaintances and people who owe him favors. Among other things, he uses it to cheat at a scavenger hunt in Yukie's route and to get Chris and him back into Kawakami Academy after they both drop out to live together for a while.
  • Selective Obliviousness: Yamato pointedly ignores Miyako's jealousy in Chika's route. If she doesn't say it aloud, then it's not his problem.
  • Shock and Awe: Uses a stun gun to electrify his wires.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: For Azumi in her route, much to the consternation of his fans since he seems to have grown into a super bishonen figure. Azumi herself tells him to go out with Lee or Stacy since she figures they'd welcome the attention.
  • Something Only They Would Say: He uses his chuunibyou shtick to verify his identity in a text message sent from someone else’s phone.
  • Stockholm Syndrome: Though his intent was to make the Itagakis like him and loosen their guard, their casual, goofy atmosphere lowered his own guard until the subject of Carnival came up, during which all four looked forward to the mindless violence and sneered at anyone that was not an Itagaki. Forgetting that he was with the villains this whole time rather scares Yamato, who begins planning in earnest at this point.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: He will repeatedly deny being lolicon in Monshiro's Route.
  • Three-Way Sex: With Momoyo and Miyako in Agave after as well as Angel and Tatsuko in the original Agave. Chris' scene also has an optional but canon scene involving Chris and Margit.
  • The Smart Guy: He's usually the one to outsmart others, and in the rare cases someone outsmarts him, he does what he can to return the favor. He's usually put in charge of planning whenever it's necessary and is generally referred to as the tactician at these times.
  • The Social Expert: His people skills are among the best in the series.
  • Stalker without a Crush: He keeps going out of his way to talk to Takae, even having Momoyo pinpoint her location in the mountains one day so he can find her. He's really just concerned about her more than anything, but she did make it clear she wanted to be left alone.
  • The Strategist: He's pretty physically unimpressive apart from his ability to dodge, but he's also the smartest person on the good guy side and as such is usually the one to call the shots even though Cap is the official leader. While he does generally refrain from getting involved in confrontations himself, at the end he'll usually have to participate anyway. His friends have grown reliant on him for this, so when he's kidnapped by the Itagakis in Agave they frequently lament being unable to ask him for help.
  • Student Council President: Runs for the position in Momoyo’s after story. Wins easily, especially given that the only people who would oppose him are those with grudges thanks to dating Momoyo and their candidate was suspended just before the election.
  • Taking the Bullet: When stuck at a desert oasis with Takae, he sees a poisonous snake about to attack her and jumps between them. However, the gesture was noted to be pretty stupid because Takae is easily fast enough to to dodge a snakebite and she asks him not to be that stupid again.
  • Took a Level in Badass: If hired by the Kuki corporation, he starts training to fight.
    • In Azumi's route, he rescues Hideo both through his own power and through usage of subordinates like Miyako, Tinkao and Cookie. By the end, he's rank 21 in his late 20s.
    • Stacy's route starts with Yamato beginning a duel with Margit. He doesn't win even though her eyepatch stays on, but he shows off great improvement nonetheless. Throughout the route, he keeps training and shows enough improvement to beat Stacy's Ultra Rock mode though he stops advancing in rank after his third opponent.
  • Took the Wife's Name: He becomes Kuki Yamato in Monshiro’s afterstory since the Kuki family is about on par with the heads of first world nations. With the marriage, he gains the status of a Kuki with his own personal attendant (Stacy or Lee) and treatment from servants equal to that of the Kuki siblings.
  • True Companions: He has very specific ideas of what does and does not constitute a friend. Guys like Kuma that he talks to and hangs out with occasionally? Acquaintances at best, tools at worst. He'll help them out, but it's a trade, so there's a limit to how much he'll do. The people in the Kazama family, however, are the only ones he truly considers friends and the only ones he says he will sacrifice himself for.
  • Weak, but Skilled; Yamato isn't a fighter by any means, but when he's out on the battlefield, he puts his mind to good work.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Yamato is not pleased that Haou used him as stakes in a bet.
  • Yes-Man: When Yamato claims that he is not as big of a coward as the other men in the academy to Haou, she briefly changes the subject and then declares she's been practicing her signature. He tells her she sucks at it, so she acknowledges that he's not just some sycophantic hanger-on.

    Momoyo Kawakami

Voiced by: Yuu Asakawa (Japanese), and Carli Mosier (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/momoyo.jpg

The heir to the Kawakami temple, Momo is possibly the strongest person alive. She receives endless streams of challengers, but they are never enough to sate her lust for battle. Apart from her Blood Knight tendencies, she mostly enjoys herself by flirting with other girls or teasing Yamato. She joined the Kazama family when the group realized they needed a stronger fighter in order to deal with a gang they were in conflict with.

  • Aggressive Submissive: She loves teasing Yamato and sometimes will even engage with him sexually when they're not together. However, when they are a couple, Yamato tends to overwhelm her with how perverted he is and the normally unflappable Momoyo becomes surprisingly shy when Yamato's sexual boundaries (such as doing it in an open air bath) far outstrip her own.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Loves flirting with girls, but identifies as straight despite this. She claims that the men in the school aren't up to her standards, a stance Haou comes to appreciate since everyone is too intimidated to hit on her. Barring Touma, anyway, who gets thrown for his trouble. On top of this, while she can become involved in a heterosexual relationship with Yamato, even when she does she doesn't give up her womanizing.
  • Anger Born of Worry: When everyone is talking to Wanko after she runs away following her defeat they all try to cheer her up until Momoyo arrives and slaps her before anything else for worrying her half to death.
  • Animal Motif: She makes a habit of acting like a cat sometimes. She sometimes adds "nyaa" to her sentances, has a "kitty face" as one of her smiles and even cosplays as a cat girl when she and Yamato have their role play sex on Halloween.
  • A Taste of Defeat:
    • Revealed in her route she got one when she tried to take leadership of the Kazama family from Shouichi believing that as the strongest she should be leader. Despite Shouichi being outclassed and not putting up a fight, he refused to give up his position and Momoyo stopped short not wanting to cause any serve injuries. While she won the physical battle she felt beaten emotionally since she failed to make him admit defeat.
    • Suffers this at the end of her route in the Kawakami War. Despite all of Yamato's plans to stop her only slowing her down, since she stayed on the sidelines for most of it Hideo was defeated while she was in the middle of a fight of her own. Even though she was winning her fight, her side still lost.
    • She again experiences this in S during Tsubame's route. When Tsubame taunts Momoyo about how she initially got together with Yamato purely to learn how to beat her, Momoyo lets her anger get the better of her and takes a strike that disables her Healing Factor, weakening her enough for a shot from Tsubame's prototype battle-armor to down her. This causes Momoyo to suffer her first physical defeat, admitting in hindsight she'd gotten overconfident and relied too much on her special abilities, letting her actual combat training slip as she would have won had she fought normally.
    • Happens again in A-2 during Seiso's route. When facing the awakened Haou for the first time, Momoyo's failure to go all-out from the start gets her completely blown away, Team Rocket style. Even though she later comes back to square things away, Haou by that point has been worn down by the collective force of every other fighter, so it's hardly a fair match-up, and Ageha later calls her out by noting the fact she wasn't hurt or unable to fight doesn't change that she pretty much got a Ring Out. For all intents and purposes, Momoyo lost the fight with one punch and will never be able to finish things for real since Haou is forbidden from fighting; when this sinks in for her, an ashamed Momoyo resolves not to let herself give intentional openings like that anymore.
  • Attack Reflector: With a special technique, she not only becomes immune to bullets, but bounces them back to where they came from. She finds this boring because it removes what little risk there is from her fights involving projectiles.
  • Attempted Rape: Pins Yamato down in Mayucchi's route and tries to use him to appease her lust for battle with a different sort of lust. Mayucchi knocks her out of the window and she falls several stories down. Yamato says he would have been okay with it if she at least loved him. She apologizes later.
  • Ax-Crazy: During Mayucchi's route, her lust for fighting gets too wild and uncontrolled and she begins picking fights with everyone and even simply attacks people once or twice. Further, in general she doesn't just enjoy fighting people, but she also enjoys hurting them if they've annoyed her. In her route she mellows out and by S she's gone a bit too far in the other direction: She's taken to slacking off and stalling during fights so they last longer, despite the stupidity of taking her opponents so lightly.
  • Batman Can Breathe in Space: Oxygen is for losers.
  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: She spends all her time fighting, but still has good skin thanks to her automatic Healing Factor.
  • Berserk Button:
    • She gets angry when she feels people aren't treating girls right, though her ideas on the ethics of how this work are complex. For example, it's okay to go on a date with someone just to get a free meal like she does and what Cap does at one point, but if you do you have to keep the girl happy. Cap didn't let the girl feel like it was a date, so he had to be punished. She's also pretty pissed at Yamato for picking Mayucchi over Miyako because of similar reasons, but she doesn't make a fuss over it.
    • She also gets pretty pissed off at the thought of Yamato showing any attraction to any older girl besides her. Especially in the case of Tsubame, where the latter makes it feel like a competition. This is something Tsumabe exploits to her advantage in her own route, kissing Yamato on world-wide television and then later lying about it being fake love, enraging Momoyo so much that she starts losing her focus in battle - something that ultimately leads to her defeat.
  • Best Her to Bed Her: She will not acknowledge any men that cannot best her. It doesn't have to be in physical prowess, however, which is pretty fortunate considering her extreme strength.
  • Big Damn Heroes: She attempts to come to Moro's rescue in Agave, but her own power has been sealed and despite her best efforts she can't even make Shakadou even work hard to beat her. Mayucchi has to be the one to actually drive him away since he wants to fight her at Carnival, not now. However, it's a good thing she tried in a way. While she got maimed for her efforts, the special technique Shakadou used on her could only have been done by him, clearing her name and allowing her power to be restored.
  • Big Sister Bully: She's sometimes like this towards Yamato, when she's not being a Cool Big Sis. Made blatantly clear in episode 1 of the anime when she invited Yamato over for some "quality time" (or, in her words, she picking on him).
  • Big Eater: She spends a lot of money playing around, but it's rarely directly on food. Rather, she flirts with girls and has them buy her food.
  • The Big Girl: She tends to act as the muscle of the group and is by far the best fighter.
  • Black Comedy Rape: She imagines herself subjecting Yoshitsune to this in Benkei's route in A-1. It mainly involves her pinning Yoshitsune down and licking her.
  • Blood Knight: Arguably her defining trait. Much to the concern of the head and assistant instructor of the Kawakami style. This is an important plot point that is resolved in various ways depending on the path followed either via Yamato or mountain training.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Probably the closest any girl could come to being.
  • Born Winner: Momoyo is of the Kawakami bloodline. While her parents are nothing special compared to her or her grandfather, she's already the world's strongest person without even having reached her peak thanks to it. Notably, she can use a powerful self recovery technique dozens of times when a normal talented martial artist can't even use it once without collapsing and she frequently comes up with absurd moves like black hole creation or time stop effects.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: She's actually pretty intelligent on the rare occasions she bothers to try. Unfortunately, she only does so periodically so that she doesn't outright fail.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: It's easy to ignore that Momoyo is going to be the next head of the Kawakawmi Temple. She enjoys fighting, but doesn't seem to take anything else about it seriously. However, Wanko's route shows that she's quite serious about it, has objective observation skills and is thinking seriously about the future of the temple. A future that does not include Wanko, who could only become an assistant master through nepotism, something nobody would accept, including Wanko herself.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: She has extremely large breasts, which are often commented on or lusted by men such as Hisanobu. Gakuto and Morooka describe her bust as being "megalopolis-style".
  • Charles Atlas Superpower:
    • Apparently, if you train hard enough, you too can punch hard enough to destroy entire armies.
    • Another character gives an estimate of her strength as follows: if an ordinary human has 5 points, Momoyo should have somewhere around 10^68... or more.
  • Charm Point: She considers her crossed bangs to be her charm point and gets fidgety if anyone tries to touch them.
  • Chick Magnet: She's very popular with younger girls and works on the assumption that both she and they know they're just flirting.
  • Childhood Marriage Promise: Subverted. Yamato remembers the two of them having one of these where Momoyo asked him to follow her forever then they were kids, but as she reminds him he only remembers half of that event. Back then, he actually rejected the idea because he wanted to be on equal footing with her, not to be her follower. This leads directly to the Best Her to Bed Her situation above.
  • Clear My Name: Momoyo in Agave is accused of going way into overkill and gets her power sealed as a result. She has to wait while Tesshin and Lu search around for evidence that the actual attacker, Shakadou, is still in town. Her power is restored when she's brought to Kawakami temple grievously injured with her wounds clearly inflicted by Shakadou.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl:
    • She tends to get irritated when anyone moves in on her big sister turf regarding Yamato, especially regarding Tsubame in S. Challenges to her 'older girl' spot seem to spark more romantically tinged possessiveness than the normal big sister attitude.
    • She becomes a literal example at one point in Tsubame's route where she clings onto Yamato from behind and continues to do so while he walks from school all the way to the Kawakami temple. She does this as a way of showing that she considers Yamato to be her property and won't let any other older girl take him from her.
  • Coat Cape: Wears her jacket around her shoulders like a cape.
  • Combined Energy Attack: Can absorb powers from the other members of the Kazama family to launch energy blasts. It's not really practical, but she likes showing off.
  • Cool Big Sis: She loves playing the cool big sis role, especially to Wanko. It also works towards Yamato, but she spends most of her time teasing him.
  • Cruel to Be Kind: Momoyo gives Wanko a rather onesided beating in the latter's route, criticizing her inability to land a single attack. She and Tesshin rather bluntly tell her to give up on becoming an assistant master because there's no way she can do it. Better to stop now then pursue a dream for years and then realize that it's impossible.
  • Deus Exit Machina: Momoyo’s power is sealed in Agave after Tesshin and Lu are tricked into thinking she delivered a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown on mooks.
  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: Tesshin sacrifices his own strength to seal Momoyo’s power at the beginning of the Agave route. Momoyo tried to tell them she wasn’t responsible for the damages caused but apparently actually listening is for losers.
  • The Dreaded: A perfect example is during the class war, where Yamato's entire strategy hangs on avoiding any contact with her at all costs! Outside of that it's revealed in Kazuko's route it's revealed she's has more admirers than Momoyo does, but since she's Momoyo's younger sister they're all too scarred to make any advances.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: If anything she seems to have more female fans than male.
  • Expy: Of Shinra Kuonji, by the same studio. Tall with long black hair, red eyes, Depraved Bisexual, and tease. She's a lot more outgoing though.
  • Finger Poke of Doom: Strong enough to flick away bullets.
  • Flash Step: She can move so quickly that even if you know exactly how she's going to attack you there's still nothing you can do about it.
  • Friends with Benefits: She brings up the idea around the mid point of the Azumi route, but he turns her down because after one such experience, he's simply decided that he's too interested in Azumi to continue.
  • Good Old Fisticuffs: Her fists are weapons of choice.
  • Good Thing You Can Heal
    • Tesshin and Momoyo have a duel at one point and he instantly pulls out the extremely powerful Bishamonten technique, which amounts to a giant coming out of the sky and stomping on your opponent faster than they can even blink. She just gets knocked down and then stands up again, having already healed the damage. Tesshin is pretty annoyed that she has such an unfair technique since Bishamonten is implied to be exhausting.
    • During the Agave route Shakudou beats her up when her power is sealed. After her power is restored, she heals instantly. Not long after, she gets into a fight with Tatsuko, who initially overpowers her with sheer brute force, but Momoyo stands up, heals the damage off and oneshots her with a special technique before falling down herself.
  • Healing Factor: Adds to her toughness, especially in the final battle. Her grandfather seems to consider it cheating and overpowered. She even quickly recovers from a life threatening injury (being stabbed in the chest by a piece of debris, which seemingly killed her; turns out she was just playing possum) after Yamato kisses her.
  • Healing Hands: Post timeskip, Momoyo has learned more than brute force techniques and can assist someone’s poison resistance.
  • Hypocritical Humor: In Kazuko's route she starts trying to motivate her to do better with her school work leading to some Pet the Dog moments. In both scenes Yamato tries to suggest that Momoyo put more effort into her school work, which she answers by running away.
  • Immune to Bullets: Probably wouldn't work on her normally anyway, but she can definitely block them with special techniques, apparently even after the gun has gone off.
  • Improbable Use of a Weapon: Used a minigun as a blunt object. Not because of circumstances; she simply didn't know how to actually use it properly.
  • Invincible Hero: Deconstructed. Momoyo is all but unbeatable. Almost anytime she gets into a fight, it's a quick Curb-Stomp Battle in her favor. As a result, she is bored from the lack of challenges as well extremely arrogant. Her only defeats come about because her arrogance causes her to fall prey to unconventional tactics she could have otherwise avoided.
  • Invincible Villain: For a given definition of "villain" in her route. Momoyo joins Class 2-S's army in the Kawakami War, so she opposes the protagonists. Despite all the preparations Yamato makes, nothing he throws at Momoyo can defeat her. Class 2-F only wins because Momoyo sat around for so long that 2F is able to defeat Hideo, and as 2-S's leader, beating him is an Instant-Win Condition.
  • Informed Attractiveness: We're told that she's the most beautiful girl around and more than once.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: Turns into one when she's romantically involved with Yamato, best exemplified in the future with her when he feels her up in her sleep. Instead of going into Pervert Revenge Mode like he was afraid she would she complains that he didn't wake her up first.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's self centered and domineering almost to the point of sociopathy and she has a tendency to forget everything when she has a chance for a potentially fun fight. When she wins, if she didn't have fun she's dismissive and rude towards the loser. However, she does have her own sense of honor and she really does her best to be there for her friends in her weird own way.
  • I Know What You Fear: Played with. She reveals in her after-story that her fear of ghosts is because they're something she can't physically touch - or rather, that she's scared of things that can't just be physically defeated or confronted straightforwardly, born from how she feels fighting is the only thing she feels she's good at. This in turn plays into both her route and Tsubame's route in how one of the things that she always feared the most was going through the rest of her life alone without any equal, which was a problem she couldn't just punch away.
  • Lethal Chef: Averted. Says that if this was a manga her lunch she made would be awful, but she’s confident in it. And she should be since it’s quite good.
  • Lightning Bruiser: While she's obviously known for her brute strength, many of her opponents underestimate her speed. Then there's her ability to regenerate. In the manga, all of her stats are incredibly high, with most of them being 95 or 100 out of 100, her lowest being intelligence, which is still an incredibly good 70.
  • Lonely at the Top: She's depressed and frustrated that, ever since Ageha quit focusing on martial arts, she can't find a worthwhile opponent. She subsequently becomes thrilled at finding opponents the likes of Tsubame and Seiso/Haou in S and A-2, though in the latter case it turned out rather bittersweet.
  • Magnetic Girlfriend: Yamato becomes increasingly popular throughout her afterstory in S, though given that he earnestly built up his reputation it’s not surprising.
  • Marshmallow Hell: Subjects Yamato to this sometimes when she's getting frustrated.
  • Megaton Punch: Not just for dealing with perverts. Since her fights are so one sided, at least once they've been shown in this manner.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Due to her habit of flirting with girls and mostly ignoring guys, some people suspect her of being a lesbian. However, it's simply that when it comes to guys she has much higher standards.
  • Morality Pet: At a goldfish scooping stand Yamato catches a rare blue goldfish for Momoyo because he wants her to take care of something instead of obsess over fighting. In her S afterstory, when Takeru the golfish gets sick and Lu heals it she finally starts to show interest in martial arts techniques apart from just smashing stuff.
  • My Sister Is Off-Limits: When it becomes clear that Wanko and Yamato are going to be a thing in the near future, Momoyo says she's okay with it. When it actually happens, she puts him in an Indian Deathlock and is frequently irritated whenever she sees him. And that's just Yamato: Everyone else had to hold back out of fear of Momoyo, even though Wanko's actually the most popular girl in the Kazama family.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: As the rest of the tropes attached to her can attest, Momoyo's various techniques lead to her pulling out new powers whenever it's convenient or simply because she feels like it.
  • The Nicknamer: Tends to give unique nicknames for those she knows, such as "Mororo" for Morooka, "Mayumayu" for Yukie, "Saya" for Sayaka.
  • No Bisexuals: As far as people instory are concerned she's either a lesbian or straight. She herself claims to be straight while at the same time she says men can't match her standards so she'll go after girls.
  • Oblivious to Love: Averted when it comes to Yamato, at least. Even when you're going through her pre route events she rather pointedly notes that she's not interested in people who make big promises and fail to deliver on them. She's pretty disappointed that Yamato said he wanted to be her equal and yet he's just lazing about.
  • One-Man Army: As shown in S, it's pretty literal. Even in the original Majikoi people of her level were considered enough to stop an invasion.
  • Optional Sexual Encounter: Feeling a bit lonely that Yamato spends so much time at the Kuki corporation in Azumi’s route, she asks if he wouldn’t mind upping their skinship moments. If you agree to one encounter, after oral she says that while she doesn’t really think she loves him exactly, she wants more attention from him and asks about a Friends with Benefits relationship. Yamato turns down any future encounters, however, since he’s getting serious about Azumi.
  • Painting the Medium: When Wanko notes how loveydovey Momoyo has gotten over Yamato, the latter replies that in “another route” Wanko might have done the same.
  • Parental Abandonment: Momoyo's parents are off training because the lost to Lu. They never have any real impact on the story and have no appearances. Yamato didn't even realize they were still alive, so it's quite likely they've never met their adopted daughter.
  • People Puppets: With her All Control technique, Momoyo forces an annoying classmate to walk out into the hall.
  • Perpetual Smiler: She has a perpetual manic grin or smirk.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: In her fight with her grandfather in Kazuko's route, a barrier had to be built around them so their battle didn't level the city. The end of Momoyo's route has Agrave state Momoyo could wipe out all of Japan if she were in a bad mood.
  • Pet the Dog: While she's frequently rather selfish and domineering, she also has her good moments where she comforts Miyako for failing to win Yamato and clearly directing some fairly violent thoughts toward him for upsetting her, though she respects his decision enough not to confront him.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: When fighting the other three of the Big Four all at once, she manages to defeat first Mayucchi and then Ageha before turning to Otome, but by that point it didn’t matter: Because she went on the offensive rather than defending her commander, Hideo was finally taken down.
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: She can strike so quickly that even Mayucchi can't keep up right after she's proved she can go toe to toe with Shakudou.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: She's not supernatural or anything, but she's quite violent and fond of fighting to the extent that not much else satisfies her at all.
  • Sickeningly Sweethearts: Momoyo and Yamato have an incredibly flirty, cute relationship in her S afterstory, which is the first time we see them really acting as a couple instead of competing, teasing each other or just having sex like the first after story.
  • Smug Super: When it comes to fights, she is always supremely confident she'll win and can sometimes shove it into her opponents' faces. Before the Kawakami war when she meets with the rest of the Kazama family she boasts that Class 2S having more people in its army is less important than having her, saying she's the equivalent to adding a million people. This ends up becoming a plot point in both Tsubame and Seiso/Haou's routes, where she gets defeated via irregular combat in the former and is outright blown away for a short time in the latter precisely because she was too sure of herself to take them seriously until too late. Both instances act as a serving of humble pie to her, admitting in hindsight that her own self-confidence and underestimating her opponent led to her losing a fight she could have or would have otherwise won.
  • Super-Senses: Momoyo is capable of seeing people's auras, which lets her see through some forms of deception. Disguises don't really work, for example, because she can see that your aura is that of someone she knows or that despite appearing ill you're actually very strong.
  • Swap Teleportation: Can force two people to switch places with some form of teleportation.
  • The Tease: Didn't mind at all being ogled by Yamato while in a skimpy bikini, or sharing an Indirect Kiss via a partially eaten yakisoba sandwich.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: According to Momoyo, it’s not going to be a fight after what the drug dealers did to Gakuto; it’s going to be a one sided destruction because they have seriously pissed her off.
  • Time Master: Momoyo can stop time in a twenty meter radius for everyone apart from herself. It's pretty tiring, though, so it's likely she was just showing off rather than considering it a useful technique.
  • Took a Level in Kindness
    • Momoyo’s after story has her being very deredere towards Yamato, respecting her opponents more and controlling her lust for battle much more appropriately. Not that she's immune to being pissed off: She is still Momoyo.
    • Momoyo is weirdly nice in Takae's route, subverting expectations of jealousy, though she does admit that her feelings about Yamato paying so much attention to an older girl are a bit complex. She's actually quite supportive of both Yamato and Takae and uncharacteristically concerned about her.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Inverted in the prologue in her fight with Margit. Momoyo cuts loose, thinking she has a Worthy Opponent. She is wrong. Margit turns out not to be in Momoyo's league and is knocked out with a single blow, to Momoyo's horror, as Margit is put in the hospital for days.
  • Victory Is Boring: She doesn't like winning fights, she likes the exhilaration that comes from a hard fight. In Majikoi it left her irritable and wanting more from her opponents while in S, if untrained or unromanced, she compensates by instead stalling during a fight instead of going all out from the beginning.
  • Walking the Earth: In Stacy's route, which takes place after a timeskip, she's hard to get track of because she apparently spends her time roaming the Earth. Haou goes with her, too, and sometimes they meet up with Takae and Mayucchi.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Played with; as revealed by Hume in Tsubame's route, concentrated amounts of electricity can disable her Healing Factor - which, compared to everything else she'd been shown resistant to (including the vacuum of space), seems pretty trite. Couple this with how (aside from a few select routes) she normally holds back or doesn't go all-out from the start, and it makes for a shockingly big exploit in her defenses that is only usually protected by way of her having so much raw power to throw around. Until Tsubame's route, that is.
  • When All You Have Is a Hammer…: When Takeru (the blue goldfish Yamato gave Momoyo) gets sick, she's upset not least of all because all she can do with her hands is break stuff.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Momoyo hates ghosts. She can apparently sort of hide it around most people, but everyone in the Kazama family knows.
  • The Worf Effect: Gets blown away in a single attack by the awakened Seiso/Haou in Seiso's route - even though everyone assumes little damage was probably done, the fact it happens at all still stuns them. Ageha later calls her out on not taking her opponent seriously when it should at least have been an even match, to which Momoyo finds she has no counterargument.
  • Worf Had the Flu:
    • She has a brief fight with Shakudou halfway through the Agave route, but her power has been sealed. Normally, she should be much stronger.
    • It's also arguably invoked in Tsubame's route, where Lu notes that Momoyo would have won her fight against Tsubame easily had she fought with her normal crisp techniques, rather than the sloppy rage-addled display she gave - to say nothing of Momoyo herself notes her moves were degrading from a lack of serious training. Even Tsubame herself admits she would have lost in the first few minutes had it been a normal fight with Momoyo in a clear mindset.
  • World's Strongest Woman: Apparently the strongest person in the world. There are perhaps only three other peoplenote  that are her equal and she can beat at least two of them since they're starting to get old if nothing else. There are a larger number of people like Ageha that can make her have to go all out.
  • Yuri Fan: Likes to fantasize about the clones in the bath.

    Kazuko Kawakami
Voiced by: Akane Tomonaga (Japanese) and Cynthia Martinez (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wanko_s.jpg

Kazuko, more frequently referred to Wanko, is Momoyo's adoptive little sister. As a child she used to be a huge crybaby and hasn't entirely shed those traits yet. She works extremely hard to fulfill her dream of becoming an assistant master at the Kawakami temple and supporting her older sister. She joined the Kawakami family when Kazama and Yamato noticed her hanging around them watching from a distance and invited her. She was later adopted into the Kawakami family to prevent an unqualified distant relative from taking her in.

  • A-Cup Angst: There's a brief scene in the later parts of her route where she's worried about her bust size, but Yamato quickly helps her get over it.
  • Alliterative Name: Family and given name both start with the 'Ka' syllable.
  • Animal Motif: Everyone constantly compares her to a dog.
  • Back-to-Back Badasses: When Wanko is surrounded by enemies during the Kawakami war, her unit gets reinforcements from Chris, who personally breaks through to fight back to back.
  • Big Eater: She eats a huge amount of food in a surprisingly good balance in order to keep up with all the exercise she does.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Yamato is pretty sure that if she put any effort at all into studying instead of constantly working out she'd get good grades. It's confirmed both when he forces her to study and during later parts of her route.
  • Butt-Monkey: Wanko is the first of the three group Butt Monkeys and has a lot of jokes based on her ditziness and almost Team Pet like status.
  • Captain Oblivious: Wanko completely ignores the announcers during Kawakami Ball, failing to notice her beloved sister being rather critical of her performance while Lu attempts to defend her. She doesn't even hear Momoyo say that while one trick of her was pretty good, she shouldn't have needed it if she wants to be an assistant master. Even later, she has a duel with Momoyo, who of course easily fends her off. However, Wanko is too happy sparring with her sister to realize that she's being graded aloud on her performance. Poorly.
  • Chaste Heroine: She's noted to not really get romantic stuff and is mostly confused by Hideo's feelings for her. Whenever anything perverted happens Miyako generally drags her aside to explain what just happened since it amuses her.
  • Determinator: Her physical strength is low and by the standards of characters who matter she has no talent at martial arts, but with constant training has made herself pretty tough. She also refuses to give up even after taking a beating.
  • The Ditz: Wanko is rather ditzy, but Yamato is determined to keep her from failing, especially since he knows she's not actually that stupid. To keep her focused he has many ambiguous punishments in store if she fails to meet his expectations, a terror she has experienced before.
  • Dude Magnet: To the surprise of the group, she's actually quite popular and in her route has both Gen and Hideo confess to her immediately after Yamato does.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: After failing the assistant master test and hooking up with Yamato, Wanko stops defaulting to a ponytail and lets her hair hang freely.
  • Fragile Speedster: Wanko's speed and reflexes are really her only exceptional traits, setting aside willpower for the moment. However, her power is low and she's more of an athlete than a fighter when it comes to physique, so willpower is generally the only thing keeping her going when she takes a hit.
  • Genki Girl: Whenever she isn't hanging out with the group she tends to be running around crazily or working out. Occasionally even then.
  • Happily Adopted: She was adopted by the Kawakami family because Momoyo wanted someone to dote on.
  • Hard Work Hardly Works: Despite how hard she trains, she usually loses her matches and is the weakest of the main group by a fair margin. A plot point in her route: Momoyo and Tesshin state she just doesn't have the raw talent to become an assistant master at Kawakami no matter how hard she works. She ends up failing their test to become an assistant master as well as the make up test a month later.
  • In-Series Nickname: Almost everyone calls her Wanko because she reminds them of a dog. Chris usually just calls her Dog outright.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: She almost always favors a strategy of charging in headfirst and her mediocre skills are also not aided by her reckless behavior during battle.
  • Little Sister Heroine: Chika teases Wanko with the idea that by virtue of the transitive property she is now Yamato’s little sister. She ends up calling him onii-chan a few times but as pointed out they treat each other exactly the same.
  • Love Dodecahedron: In her route, Yamato, Hideo and Gen all confess to her at once and she likes Yamato back, much to Miyako's horror.
  • Modesty Shorts: Often wears compression shorts under her skirt.
  • Neutral Female: When she was younger, she spent all of her time cheering on the sidelines while her sister and the boys did all of the fighting. Since then, she consciously tries to avert being this by training nonstop.
  • Nice Girl: She's the most friendly and popular girl in the Kazama family and is almost heartbroken herself when she has to turn down Hideo. She tends to squabble with Chris, though.
  • The Nose Knows: Apparently, Wanko can smell when people are sick. She also sniffs out Yamato, Cap and Gakuto when they're trying to hide from her in the mountains.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: She actually does have some talent for martial arts and trains very hard, but all her work fails to stop her from being outclassed by all the girls and perhaps even Gakuto or Cap, who aren't martial artists at all. Even Yamato can tell that Wanko's footwork is sloppy compared to Chris' efficient, beautiful movements.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: When both of them are going all out, she manages to beat Chris through willpower alone after being badly beaten. However, by that point she had taken too much damage and fell unconscious herself. Some complete nobody won the tournament they were in after that and she failed her test.
  • The Rival: As soon as Chris joins the school the pair become rivals, mostly because their skills are roughly even and the two are both competitive and fairly dim.
  • Spin to Deflect Stuff: When acting as anti arrow defense for Miyako, she basically jumps around crazily while spinning her naginata.
  • Sprouting Ears: Whenever she gets excited or depressed her sprite grows dog ears.
  • Team Pet: She tends to get treated like a pet or mascot by the group and has the name Wanko because they feel she acts kind of like an excitable puppy.
  • Tragic Dream: She lacks the talent to be an assistant master and Momoyo is going through final analysis before letting her know the harsh truth.
  • The Worf Effect: She's often used to showcase other people's abilities. However, this lead to her losing so often that the writers apparently caught on that she had become a joke, so she also fails immediately in a joke tournament during Lee's route.

    Miyako Shiina
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/miyako_shiina-_chuckle_pic_1543.jpg
Voiced by: Hyo-sei (Japanese) and Brittney Karbowski (English)

Miyako is, to put it bluntly, Yamato's stalker. After he saved her from bullying she has been quite openly in love with him. Unfortunately for her, it makes him kind of uncomfortable and he'd rather remain her friend. She joined the group when she protected the plant the other six were taking care of during a vicious storm.

  • Abusive Parents: Her mother was not a nice lady, to simply put. Her mother Really Gets Around, to the point of sleeping with other men, some who are married, and had been emotionally abusive to her family. Miyako still has dreams of her even though she's long dead. She gets the last laugh since Miyako fully intends to love the person she loves, which exactly happens in her route.
  • Aloof Archer: Miyako is the cool and calculating member of the group, though not in the same way as Yamato. She's not completely helpless in melee, but is significantly worse off fighting in close range.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Part of the reason why she is heavily fixated on Yamato. When they were kids, the fish tank she used broke down, killing all the fish she was raising for the school. The bullies had a field day with this, and she broke down. Yamato decided enough was enough and proceed to beat up the bullies in her defense, along with Cap. And since it was Yamato who added her in the group (to Gakuto's protest), she began crushing on him.
  • Babies Ever After: The epilogue of her route in the first game, which shows her heavily pregnant and about to give birth to her and Yamato's child.
  • Berserk Button: She does not take slights against the Kazama family well - especially not ones toward Yamato. Above all else though, making a move on Yamato right in front of her such as when Tatsuko pushes her first kiss onto Yamato in the Agave route is a definite trigger.
  • Bittersweet Ending: She surprisingly has one in her S route. To elaborate, she's going to Germany with her father for a year in order to become more self-dependent, and Yamato tries to spend time with her as much as he can as she moves out of the country. In order to reassure her that everyone will still be there for her, Yamato has the entire school write a message to her as she leaves. In the original game, the above ending is subverted as it shows Miyako preparing to give birth to their firstborn son, her and Yamato having married after she returned to Japan.
  • Blatant Lies: Can lie without batting an eyelash, even to Yamato, when it serves her purpose (which is Yamato). He can tell when she lies most of time though.
  • Blazing Inferno Hellfire Sauce: For whatever reason, Miyako loves dousing her food in hot sauce and heavy spices - so much so that it's implied she either can't or won't eat anything that doesn't have some amount of it. At one point in her after-story, she even makes a bowl of curry that's been so saturated with it that it turns black, and Yamato comments in Yukie's route that he can't share a lunch with her because it's too spicy to be edible for him.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Miyako seems to be completely aware that she's in a visual novel, as shown by her mentioning routes and saying "I win! Majikoi. Fin." whenever she subjects Yamato to Black Comedy Rape resulting in a Non-Standard Game Over.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: While Kazuko and Momoyo are also technically Yamato's childhood friends, those aspects of their character are usually downplayed. Miyako, however, is defined by this about as much as her stalking behavior.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She's all over Yamato most of the time, but once he shows interest in someone else she backs off. Physically. However, it's made very clear that she's doing this so that she doesn't end up hated rather than not actually feeling jealous or really giving up. If it doesn't work out she can snag him on the rebound and in many scenarios there's an option where if you pick the wrong choice she'll consider that to be reciprocation enough.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Lampshaded in Chris route, when she beats up her opponent while he is charging his next attack. She notes that if she didn't she would have lost. She didn't even have her bow with her.
  • Death Glare: One that will make you want to sleep with the lights on...
  • Devoted to You: Defines both her character toward Yamato, and her father's toward her mother. Of course, since Yamato isn't a cheating scumbag who cares only for his own pleasure like her mother was, this ends a lot better for her than it did for her father. Her singleminded devotion toward Yamato does somewhat result in every other route being a BittersweetEnding for her, though, in that she'd rather die alone than get romantically involved with anyone who isn't Yamato, but she also genuinely wants Yamato to be happy, even if it isn't with her (which of course doesn't prevent her from vastly preferring that it be with her, and being ready to swoop in should he ever find himself single again, but most of the routes imply a pretty permanent relationship).
  • Double Standard Rape: Female on Male: There are a lot of potential bad ends where this seems to be the end result. Even if you avoid those, her standard behavior like attempting to strip and molest him is little better. Most of time, Yamato starts thrusting on his own while she forcibly rides him. He also has "Meh, so I end up with Miyako, could be worse." attitude.
  • Evil Matriarch: Her mother. By the time of the main story, she's long dead.
  • Extreme Doormat:
    • She'll do whatever Yamato asks of her. She won't stop loving him though, and when asked to give up on him, she'll say "sure". And after he's outside of earshot, she'll say "like hell I will!" and bids her time to strike again.
"Yamato is using me. How wonderful!!"
    • Played With in her own route as well; she mentions that she's just as happy to dominate him if that's what he prefers, but her own preferences seem to tend slightly more to the submissive side of the switch.
  • Friendzone: Yukie's route has Miyako become upset when Yamato falls for the former, beginning to cry in front of Momoyo and asking why someone Yamato met only recently is getting his affections over a childhood friend like her. Momoyo replies that, while she was certainly closer to Yamato than pretty much anyone, this made Miyako too close and she became family instead of a potential love, thus she landed herself here (as well as hinting that this is where Momoyo herself feels she's landed). In general, whenever she asks for a relationship upgrade he always replies with a variation of 'I'd rather be friends.'
  • Genre Savvy: Knows that if Yamato and Tsubame win a tournament together that he's sure to get onto the Tsubame route.
  • Hidden Depths: She's apparently an excellent singer, since she wins a karaoke contest in Tsubame's route in S, even beating Tsubame herself who was the favorite to win. (We don't actually get to see Miyako's performance, though)
  • Hold Up Your Score: She does this at times with a red sign that says "10 GOOD!!"
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: She's an excellent archer and consistently succeeds in whatever she does when she has a bow in hand, including hitting the exact same spot on a moving robot from so far away that nobody can actually see her.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Invoked but averted. She'll support any of Yamato's romances, but only because she's hoping that he'll screw up and become single. She tries to portray it like this trope but Yamato isn't fooled and she knows it, so he does his best to make it obvious to outright crush her hopes if he's in a relationship so he doesn't keep stringing her along.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: She's quiet, but when she does talk it's about sex or Yamato about 90% of the time. If he doesn't watch out, she'll try to rape him in his sleep. If he asks her to, she'll back off. Unless it's a Bad End. In fact, it's heavily implied that she's so sexually-obsessed as to have already actively fantasized about practically anything Yamato could do to her. This is best shown at one point on her route, when he strips her naked and has his way with her right next to the school pool; she initially objects that they might be seen... and then rattles off a number for which sexual fantasy he's letting her live out right now by doing this. And that's not even counting how OK she is with just about any kind of foreplay, role-play or even public make-out sessions - so long as it's Yamato doing it, she's ready and willing.
  • Mad Love: She's all over Yamato, even stalking him and attempting to rape him in his sleep, and she refuses to get the message that he's simply not interested.
  • Magic Skirt: Koyuki and Miyako both perform flying kicks, skirts rippling in the wind… and somehow still covering everything essential.
  • Multishot: She can shoot at least four arrows at once at different moving targets. However, Momoyo interrupts her to show off some new moves.
  • Missing Mom: Her mother is long dead at the start of the game. Not that she cares anyway.
  • Nerves of Steel: She has excellent concentration ability thanks to her practice as an archer.
  • Ninja Maid: Joins the Kuki Servant Corps in Azumi's route.
  • Nonstandard Game Over: If Yamato fails to get the girl of the route he's on, he will most of the time end up with Miyako. You can even end up with her for picking joke options like complimenting her while on Chris' route. The game even lampshades at least one of them: "You remembered to save, right!?"
  • Patient Childhood Love Interest: Played for both humor and a certain level of creepiness. She's all over Yamato and incredibly devoted, but he's simply not interested. In her own route in S, this holds true for the both of them.
  • Put on a Bus: Miyako and Chris are hospitalized by Shishin at the beginning of Rin’s route. The story goes to great length to assure us that they’re not really injured that badly or anything, honest. Miyako can’t get in the way and Rinchuu can move into Chris’ room.
  • The Power of Love: A firm believer in it. Love gives her power, especially when there's any hint of reciprocation, even if simply imagined. Cookie 2 decides to copy her at one point. Both her route and the Agave route makes this literal as she claims to have gotten a power-boost from her sleeping with Yamato in the former, and then in a threesome with Yamato and Momoyo in the latter which lets her fight against Koyuki. In Miyako's S-After story, she claims the benefits are also physical when Yamato notes her breasts and butt have both gotten a little bigger since they became a couple.
  • The Quiet One: By default she's very quiet, but around her friends she talks a little more. Mostly about perverted things.
  • Rei Ayanami Expy: Quiet, blue haired, inexpressive, reserved and doesn't talk much. She's extremely perverted, though. Subverted when in private with the Kazama family and especially around Yamato.
  • Shy Blue-Haired Girl: Played with. She has short blue hair and she's very quiet and reserved most of the time. However, she's quite the Lovable Sex Maniac.
  • Single-Target Sexuality:
    • Sneers at the advances of men other than Yamato. She's much too focused on Yamato to notice them and refuses to move on after he starts dating other girls.
    • In Chris' route, when it's time for Parallel Conflict Sequence, Miyako's obscure elite opponent hits her by a technique that increases her body's sensitivity 50-fold, promising to lock her in orgasmic throes at the slightest touch. The touch does nothing of the sort, as she explains her body is frigid towards anyone but Yamato.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Largely played for laughs. At one point, she promises to follow him into class S when he joins the Kuki corporation and says that she'll become one of the 999 attendants to support him and always stay ranked just below him. After a timeskip, she does. It can also get kind of creepy, though, especially since she'll basically rape him if given even a flimsy excuse.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Only sweet towards the Kazama family, mostly reserved for Yamato. Towards everyone else she’s extremely distant and uninterested. Of course, Yamato is kind of sick of it, so when seeing someone else’s memories of Miyako (long story) he’s rather intrigued to see her cold side for once.
  • The Team Normal: In the Rinchuu route’s second ending she follows Yamato to Ryouzanpaku and succeeds the title of Kaei despite the group only recruiting those with a special ability. Apparently, she's just that good of an archer once she's completely mastered the Shiina style.
  • The Tease: Averted. When she flirts with Yamato, she means every thing she says she'll do to him, or let him do to her, so unlike with Momoyo he has to be very careful in how he responds to her.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Post Agave, she's uncharacteristically sympathetic to Koyuki Sakakibara to the point of actually inviting her to a meeting of the Kazama family. For someone that both wants to keep girls away from Yamato and hates the idea of anyone intruding into her social circle, this is quite a big deal. Especially when you find out Koyuki herself has her own Abusive Parent of a mom, they're not so different.
  • Tsundere: In Agave, Miyako tries the cold approach to make Yamato pay attention to her. She can’t do it. Interestingly enough, when he sees her from another person’s perspective and she DOES act cold, he’s intrigued.
  • Unaffected by Spice: She even has an entire collection of hot sauces including Destroid Sauce which, according to her, is 1,000,000 Scoville units (that's four hundred times as spicy as regular Tabasco Sauce).
  • Undying Loyalty: Whenever Yamato needs an ally, he can always get Miyako's assistance even when it's completely and totally obvious that he's not going to reciprocate her feelings.
  • Unrequited Love Lasts Forever: Most endings explicitly state that Miyako never moves on from Yamato. She waits for him forever, even though he outright asks her to at least give the idea of finding someone else a chance.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Miyako loses to Shishin at the beginning of Rinchuu’s route, but she didn’t have her bow. There’s a rematch at the end and she doesn’t do nearly as poorly there.
  • Yandere: Discussed and Defied. While encouraging Yamato to date her, she assures him, that he may dump her if it turns out they won't click right together. He gets worried that she might stab him if he dumps her, and she gets closest in entire game to being mad at him, reassuring him she isn't crazy, she just loves him that much. Of course, while she honestly has no intention of killing him, she is lying about promising to accept his rejection once he gives her chance - and he knows that.
  • Yaoi Fangirl: While she gets turned on by listening to Yamato being in homoerotic situations with other guys, she makes it clear she won't accept it if he gets together with a guy any more than with a girl other than her. Similarly happens when watching Gakuto and Moro and especially if the latter's cross-dressing.
  • Yamato Nadeshiko: Invoked in-universe but ultimately subverted; as one person notes in her route, she does appear this way outwardly to others (minus the long dark hair), but that's only because her true personality isn't ever shown to anyone else but the Kazama Family, with Yamato himself being surprised at how sharply her public image contrasts her real self.

Chris joins the story shortly after it begins as a new transfer student. She has immense devotion to her father, a fixation on justice and chivalry, a gullible streak a mile wide and a rather excitable nature. Due to her disapproval of what she sees as cheap tricks, she and Yamato frequently clash. She joins the Kazama Family not long after moving into the town. In Majikoi A-1, she reveals her mom's name is Eva after Yamato reveals his parents' names.

  • A-Cup Angst: Downplayed because she doesn't make a big deal out of it, but she admits to Yamato in S that she does feel that her chest is a bit lacking. Considering that Miyako, Yukie, and especially Momoyo outclass her in this area, it's not hard to imagine why she'd feel this way.
  • Back-to-Back Badasses: When Wanko is surrounded by enemies during the Kawakami war, her unit gets reinforcements from Chris, who personally breaks through to fight back to back.
  • Bad Liar: She's not fond of trickery so she's naturally quite bad at lying.
Miss Kishido: I don't know you, Naoe Yamato. [Beat] I know your name because of Kishido Power!
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: A lot of her romantic events with Yamato consist of the two quarreling as a natural extension of her sense of fair play and his dirty tactics.
  • Butt-Monkey: While not at the same level as Gakuto, she tends to be the butt of a lot of jokes due to her rather naive outlook and strong sense of honor. It's especially common in her route. Monshiro's afterstory indicates that she's way more dignified when she's at home, but Japan is a bad influence on her. If she's just returning from Germany or reminded of it she's not nearly as lazy or dense.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Thanks to her naivete and sense of justice she tends to miss the point entirely. For example, she hears about "becoming an adult this summer" and says she might do it first. By, you know, becoming self-sufficient at housework.
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: Mayucchi teaches her cooking at one point and she gets excited at the idea of experimenting. Mayucchi shoots her down immediately and lets her try out her idea on a tiny portion of the food they're cooking. Turns out cola and pork don't go well together, so she stops trying to be creative. note
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Barehanded Chris defeats Shishin in two attacks and she needs Rinchuu to save her ass.
  • Daddy's Girl: She adores every word her father says and obeys him without question. Yamato, on the other hand, was raised to not blindly accept authority, an idea that Chris finds intriguing but not really for her until Yamato pushes her into standing up for herself.
  • The Ditz: Chris is not only not that smart, she's also very gullible and socially dense.
  • Fishing for Sole: In Wanko's route she's convinced she has a big catch, but it's just a boot. Yamato applauds her for pulling off such a classic joke.
  • Girlish Pigtails: She's the most immature of the girls barring maybe Wanko and has the immature hairstyle to match.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Of course, this just makes it really easy for Yamato to piss her off since he's anything but pure or straightforward.
  • Heavy Sleeper: When thinking about Tatsuko's large bust, Yamato wonders if sleeping a lot does that to you. Chris floats across his mind and he immediately rejects this conclusion. She can even sleep through a rather loud sex scene next to her, only briefly waking up once to comment on Margit and Yamato 'wrestling' and then goes back to sleep. Of course, just because Yamato successfully bet that Chris would sleep through it doesn't account for everything: He kind of forgot the much lighter sleeper Mayucchi was right next door, who eventually wishes they would just shut up and go to sleep.
  • High-Pressure Emotion: Some of her sprites have her face flushed and steaming.
  • Hollywood Tone-Deaf: In Tsubame's route in S, there's a karaoke contest which Chris enters. She sings the opening theme from the first game...well, not so much "sing" as "yells loudly into her microphone".
  • Honor Before Reason: She doesn't like cheating on principle regardless of how effective it is. This changes after seeing that Yamato cheats for the sake of his friend and has his own strong will to succeed rather than just being a lazy cheater.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Chris sneers at people being worried about wasps saying she’d swat down a whole swarm at once, but she sees a single cockroach and panics.
  • Implausible Fencing Powers: Able to thrust her rapier hundreds of times in an instant.
  • Lady of War: She seems to strive towards this, but overall she lacks the actual dignity.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: In Koyuki route she gets pissed about the attack on Kawakami temple and charges out on her own. She actually beats Shishin in two moves and doesn't take much damage as a result, though Shishin recovers pretty quickly after Rinchuu rescues her.
  • Leg Focus: Yamato and other characters occasionally comment on how beautiful Chris's legs are.
  • Lethal Chef: Hopeless at cooking and other housework. After living with Yamato for awhile, she manages to make food that is at least edible.
  • Moment Killer: Chris keeps interrupting Margit’s poorly veiled threats to gush over her big sister. Then she interrupts Yamato when he’s trying to flirt with Margit.
Yamato: I just want to talk to her [Margit] but I’m being interrupted by someone who can’t read the mood.
Chris: There’s someone like that? …It must be rough.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: Contrasting Yamato, Chris was raised to believe her father was always right. It takes a lot of effort on his part to point out that he's being a overprotective, controlling jerk.
  • No Social Skills: She wouldn't be that bad in Germany, but in Japan she sticks out like a sore thumb. She's blunt, can't read the atmosphere and accepts gifts that politeness dictates you should turn down. She's also gullible, naggy and occasionally responds to argument by just calling her opponent stupid. However, in the end, everyone seems to find it both cute and amusing so she tends to get away with it, oblivious even to the fact she's been looked down on.
  • Ojou: Chris is often referred to as one by the other members of the family. She avoids the spoiled aspects of it, at least later on in the routes.
  • Opposites Attract: The basis of her relationship with Yamato is that they have completely opposing personalities. He values tricks and deceit while she favors straight forward thinking and honor. Thus, a lot of their time together is spent in some weird mixture of simultaneous flirting and bickering.
  • Out of Focus: Out of all the girls, Chris has the least involvement during the Agave route. She rarely appears and when she does it's only so that she can have a fight.
  • Overused Running Gag: Just tell Chris any ridiculous lie about Japanese culture and she'll always believes it. When Yamato tells her that the traditional Japanese usage of spring onions to cure illnesses is by sticking them up someone’s butt (completely true) she doesn’t believe him for a second. That’s just silly!
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: As Miss Kishido. She's convinced that it's a perfect disguise. Sadly, only people with a working brain could see through the deception as Wanko, Gakuto and Capt are all fooled by it and Momoyo only sees through it because she can't hide her aura.
  • Phenotype Stereotype: Blonde, blue-eyed dorky and emotional German girl.
  • Proper Tights with a Skirt: Wears white pantyhose with her school uniform, as shown in the above picture.
  • Put on a Bus: Miyako and Chris are hospitalized by Shishin at the beginning of Rin’s route. The story goes to great length to assure us that they’re not really injured that badly or anything, honest. Miyako can’t get in the way and Rinchuu can move into Chris's room.
  • Royal Rapier: She favors the rapier in battle and acts like a princess all day long.
  • Spoiled Sweet: She's a sweet girl, but she tends to be pretty clueless in part due to her upbringing and how much her father and Margit pamper her. Her pre route events show how unequipped she is to handle basic tasks. Her sheltered upbringing has also made her fairly narrow minded, which angers Miyako and Moro before the others manage to calm things down. She's not trying to be malicious, she just doesn't get it.
  • Super Gullible: Despite how suspicious she acts of Yamato, she tends to believe any absurd thing he says, even correcting himself mid lie as necessary. The one time she doesn't believe him is when he tells her about the Japanese folk remedy involving sticking a spring onion up someone’s ass as a cure for colds and other ailments. It's weird, but also true.
  • Sweet Tooth: Particularly fond of cakes and sweets.
  • Talking in Your Sleep: Chris is very hard to wake up, but when there's activity around her she'll start speaking gibberish in her sleep.
  • Tsundere: Not in her own route so much where she's just argumentative, but the early parts of Wanko's routes have several moments where she's at least attracted enough to feel the need to loudly deny it or show other clear signals.
  • Unwanted Assistance: She keeps wanting to help with housework, which she can't do it all. After being brushed off she finally manages to act childish and get Yamato to let her try to clean the sink, but when she uses a ton of bleach he kicks her out. She tries again with Miyako, who tells her acting like a baby only works on the opposite gender and shoos her away.
  • The Worf Effect: Following Miyako’s defeat at the hands of Shishin, Chris challenges her to a fight with weapons and gets stomped just as quickly to show off the Ryouzanpaku girls' abilities. Wanko intends to avenge them, but Shishin isn’t allowed to fight the Kawakami sisters. Not that Wanko would be able to accomplish anything.

    Yukie Mayuzumi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yukie.png
Voiced by: Yūko Gotō, Eri Sendai (Majikoi A-2 only) (Japanese), and Emily Neves (English)

A first-year student with terrible self-esteem, a cell phone strap as her best friend and a terrifying glare when nervous, Mayucchi desires friends more than anything else. Contrary to her meek behavior and appearance, she's actually a master swordsman. She joins the group shortly after the story begins when she finally musters the courage to ask the Kazama Family to be her friends. She later makes friends with a new transfer student, Iyo Oowada.

  • Action Girl: She's the second-strongest fighter in the group by a wide margin.
  • Ambiguous Syntax: When challenged to duels or otherwise questioned regarding her skills, she'll politely and humbly refuse the duel and state that with skills of her level a match would be embarrassingly short. Except she's not the one who would be embarrassed: She's too nice to want to flatten someone like Kosugi in one blow and when she says a fight with Margit would last about two minutes she means that's how long it would take to beat Margit.
  • Apologetic Attacker: She's extremely polite and humble when fighting and apologizes for not holding back or other such things.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: During her duel with Yoshitsune she ends the fight with a technique that takes an hour to gather enough energy. That's an attack that would be impossible to use unless your opponent simply stands back and lets you do it like Yoshitsune.
  • Badass Adorable: Cute, but is actually the second strongest of the main cast, can match up against Shakadou and has defensive abilities good enough to repel even Haou.
  • Beware the Nice Ones
    • When Kosugi talks bad about Iyo, Yukie knocks her out in one blow and gives her a wound that will take a month of recovery. Barehanded. Oh, and the heartwarming CG with Yukie and Iyo that happens right after? There are bloodstains on Yukie's shirt.
    • In Agave, Kosugi sees her when she doesn't have time to be modest or goof around and she's absolutely shocked at Mayucchi's aura. It's clear that the only thing going through her head is "Aw, shit, that's who I was picking a fight with?"
    • Also in S, when Tsubame defeats Momoyo through some questionable tactics, Mayucchi gets very serious and declares she will be Tsubame's next opponent. Since Mayucchi is much more serious and focused, Tsubame's tactics likely wouldn't have worked on her.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: She has a fairly large bust, something her flat-chested little sister is extremely envious of.
Sayaka: I'm sorry that I'm a kiwi that accidentally got mixed in with a bunch of melons.
  • Cannot Tell a Joke: Mayucchi has many virtues. A good sense of humor is not among them and generally the best she can do is to make terrible puns, usually involving horses. Most people ignore them.
  • Consulting Mister Puppet: She does this with her cell phone strap, Matsukaze. In her route, she realizes she doesn't need Matsukaze anymore and accepts his parts of her personality back into herself.
  • Covert Pervert: As pointed out by Momoyo early on, Yukie is aware of terms like deep-throating. She tries to dismiss it by having Matsukaze say he's the one aware of such matters and that Yukie is innocent - it doesn't work.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: She acts ridiculous, but she's the strongest of the main cast barring Momoyo and apparently an even match for Shakadou when wielding a sword. Further, she actually has better senses than Momoyo and is able to easily detect Shakadou, Lu and Tesshin when they're hiding their presences.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Mayucchi normally holds her tongue when snarky thoughts enter her head, so instead Matsukaze is left to announce what she's really thinking.
  • Do Well, But Not Perfect: In her route during the race section Yamato gives her instructions that end with her coming in second place rather than the first she's probably capable of so that they'll get the Second Prize. Azumi wins the race, but she and Kuki get a giant statue of the mayor instead, which is always the first place prize he gives. Thus, they score the real prize, the three autographs.
  • Evasive Fight-Thread Episode: During her route, she gets into a fight with Shakadou that is interrupted by the latter's boss with hints that we'll see a proper fight in another route. During Agave, she fights him once, but doesn't have her katana and can't fight back properly, staving off the final confrontation until the end. Finally, they meet once more when she finally has her sword... and Lu promptly shows up to perform a Kill Steal, leaving Mayucchi with nothing to do but fight more mooks.
  • Friendless Background: When she was growing up, she focused so much on training that she mastered the style to a level greater than her own father. However, she never made any friends because she was so busy.
  • Hidden Badass: She's the second strongest person in the group with a fairly impressive gap between her and the third, but she's quite humble and downplays it. Despite being humble, however, she knows perfectly well who is stronger or weaker than her, though the way she phrases these sentiments can be deceptive. For example, she won't fight Kosugi because there's too great a difference between the two or thinks to herself that a fight with Margit would last about two minutes. Both times she rates herself as the victor in the fight, but the situations imply she thinks the opposite.
  • Implausible Fencing Powers: Able to cut through people's aura somehow. Also, cars.
  • In-Series Nickname: Most people call her Mayucchi while Momoyo calls her Mayumayu.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: In the manga. In similar fashion to Miyako, she supports Yamato in final battle for Momoyo's heart, despite having feelings for him.
  • Jack of All Stats: The manga gives all of her stats as slightly above average (about 60 overall compared to the average 50). While this doesn't seem terribly impressive, being slightly above average in all aspects mixed with ungodly swordsmanship skills proves to make her a match for the best fighters in the entire series.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Majikoi as a whole operates under this logic with only a select few people being able to effectively use guns. Case in point is that she ends up as the second strongest person in the combat section of her route despite facing off against soldiers, mercenaries and killer robots all armed with guns and occasionally even missiles.
  • Kinky Spanking: On one occasion Yamato tries to snap her out of her nervousness by spanking her ass. Despite the fact that she could easily dodge, she doesn't. Then just out of curiosity, he spanks her again few times (if player chooses to), and again, rather than avoid "attack", she'd rather follow his hand with her eyes as he "lands hit". It isn't made clear whether her behavior is result of her meekness, because she enjoys it, or because it's Yamato doing it. Given her overall characterization its most likely combination of all above.
  • Lady of War: Very elegant and refined even in battle.
  • Lampshade Hanging:
  • Lonely at the Top: She's trained so much in martial arts that she had no time for anything except her personal hobbies like cooking and cleaning. When she gets to Kawakami academy she decides to hide her strength and avoid the competition heavy class S so she can make friends her own age.
  • Motor Mouth: When she's embarrassed she can't shut up. Not helped by Matsukaze feeling the need to add his input.
  • Never Gets Drunk: To Momoyo's surprise, Mayucchi is basically impossible to inebriate. Miyako, Chris and the guys not named Yamato all succumbed fairly quickly while Wanko drank conservatively and Yamato was careful not to get too plastered, but Mayucchi merely notes that the region she's from is famous for strong alcohol which is totally not what they're drinking right now.
  • Nice Girl: She's very open, supportive and kind, though Matsukaze occasionally says some pretty harsh things. Presumably, these would have normally just been things she would think but not say.
  • Nightmare Face: Her "friendly face" doesn't really say "Let's be friends" so much as "I'M GOING TO KILL YOU IN YOUR SLEEP!".
  • No-Sell: Mayucchi easily cuts down Takae's afterimages without getting confused and when she tries to use a whirlwind Mayucchi just blows it away with a sharp burst of ki. The point of the latter move was to just to distract her so Takae could gain distance for a charge attack, however.
  • No Social Skills: Because she's never had any friends she doesn't know how to talk to people.
  • Odd Friendship: With Gakuto, who does not hit on her due to him not being interested in younger girls and as a result, they both admire each other and are mentioned to be Like Brother and Sister.
  • Red Herring: With the support of her team, she transfers to Tsubame's team for the final war game in Seiso's route, but Yamato just figures that she's such a great defender that his team can just win by decision and keep their forces together. She laments not doing a thing at the end.
  • The Rival: After her loss to Takae at the climax of her route she challenges Takae to another match in the future, which is happily accepted.
  • Sacrificed Basic Skill for Awesome Training: Mayucchi has spent so much time learning swordplay that she’s already better than her father, but has no friend as a result. Still managed to pick up domestic skills though.
  • Self-Deprecation: She is humble to the point of doing this, constantly trying to make herself useful to others in order to make friends. She eventually gets called out on it by Gakuto of all people, leading to Character Development.
  • Ship Tease: She gets pretty fidgety around Yamato a few times in Takae's route, though she tries to not attach too much importance to his compliments and requests.
  • Shrinking Violet: She gets so anxious about meeting new people that rather than avoid people or other classic behaviors her face gets all tense and she ends up with a Death Glare that terrifies everyone.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: Very elegant, traditional and inoffensive, but she's also one of the Big Four and the second strongest person in the Kazama Family, roughly on par with the likes of Momoyo's old instructor, Gyoubu Shakadou.
  • Super-Senses: Mayucchi can see aura like Momoyo, but is even more precise about it in most ways and also has superior range.
  • Supreme Chef: She's a very talented cook and enjoys making food for others.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Mayucchi never really makes any friends beyond the Kazama family, Iyo and Kokoro while at Kawakami, but in A-4 she becomes very popular with the first year girls at Tenjin Academy.
  • Ventriloquism: She views Matsukaze her phone strap as her only friend and insists that he's a type of spirit that inhabits well loved objects, though when explaining him she'll indirectly admit that she knows it isn't true.
  • Weak, but Skilled: In terms of pure stats, Mayucchi isn't that exceptional apart from her speed. However, Momoyo judges that she'd be able to beat Tatsuko even though Momoyo herself had trouble with her. Though to be fair, a sword is a pretty good counter to someone as resistant to blunt force damage as Tatsuko.
  • Worthy Opponent:
    • Given that they don't want to be on opposite sides to begin with and understand perfectly well why they aren't, it was inevitable with Yoshitsune.
    • Haou, impressed with her ability using a sword, offers her a place in her army as a fencing instructor and is quite insulted when Mayucchi refuses.
  • Yamato Nadeshiko: One of the most traditionally Japanese female characters in the story. She's domestic, supportive, strong-willed, humble and very feminine.
  • Younger than She Looks: She's the youngest member of the Kazama family but is much taller than Miyako, Chris and Wanko, coming up just a little shorter than Momoyo. She's also far more developed than the other first year students seen and right behind Momoyo in bust size.

    Shouichi Kazama
Voiced by: Katsuyuki Konishi (Japanese), and Greg Ayres (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/capt.jpg

The actual leader of the group and co-founder alongside Yamato, Kazama is extremely impulsive and rather scatterbrained, but he also possesses immense charm, luck and recognition by the universe as the main character, which allows him to succeed despite the odds against him when the situation is sufficiently dramatic. He is quite popular with girls, but is entirely unaware of it as he's completely disinterested in them himself.

  • The Ace: Handsome, overflowing with charisma, kind, very fast, great natural instinct, Cap is pretty much the best at everything he tries.
  • Affectionate Parody: Kazama is essentially a completely straight shonen hero relegated to the role of supporting character in a romantic comedy. The results are one of the most hilarious characters in the game.
  • All-Loving Hero: While he lacks Yamato's brains and Momoyo's fighting ability, his good-natured and inspirational attitude towards others as well as his strong sense of justice is what puts him in the leadership position.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Cap's short attention span prevents him from sticking to one career for more than a few days at most.
  • Big Man on Campus: One of four really popular and attractive guys on campus. He's the least intelligent of the four, but probably the most athletic and definitely the friendliest.
  • Born Lucky: Has extraordinary luck and wins every single bet he makes.
  • Born Winner: Acknowledged by the universe as the hero, allowing him to succeed in everything he tries and even bend the laws of physics for the sake of achieving his goals. It has earned him a more than a few enemies in universe.
  • Brick Joke: Of a sort. In A-2 his guess for Seiso's identity is Yoshinaka Minamoto. He isn't even close despite normally having pretty good instincts. However, come A-5 we really do get a clone of Yoshinaka.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Yamato notes that he'd be completely unstoppable if he actually committed himself to training or his studies instead of constantly seeking adventure.
  • Brutal Honesty
    • He refuses to dance around the issue of Matsukaze and says that even if he finds Matsukaze amusing, the reason Mayucchi has no friends apart from the Kazama Family is because she keeps talking to her cell phone strap, which she admits. However, she refuses to 'abandon' Matsukaze because he was always there for her. This is one of the Mayucchi pre route events and in the end she decides she really does need to stop relying on Matsukaze and accepts that part of him back into herself.
    • In A-2 everyone is very uncomfortable about telling Seiso her true identity because they know it will upset her, but he tells her immediately with no attempts to dress it up or soften the blow.
  • Calling Your Attacks: He names moves that don't even constitute as attacks. Case in point: throwing his clothes at the enemy.
  • Catchphrase: Tends to yell "Wassup?" when entering a room.
  • Chaste Hero: No, he doesn't know that he was invited to a date by Chika at all. He only thought it was an eat-all-you-can time for him. The first thing he says to the idea of being surrounded by several scantily clad women trying to seduce him is "Ew, gross!". He'd much rather hang out with Yamato and is oblivious to how that looks. However, he falls for Momoyo late in her route, though by then it's too late. In her afterstory it's shown that it's only for Momoyo and he's still not into other girls.
  • Chick Magnet: He's a member of the Elegant Quatro, the four most attractive guys in school, and thus gets a lot of attention from the ladies. Unlike Gen and Aoi Touma, however, he never displays any interest in girls until the end of Momoyo's route where he falls for her too late: She already likes Yamato.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Capt only operates by the logic of the hedonist. Whatever sounds like the most fun is the only thing worth doing, so he'll instantly ditch classes to go on adventures halfway across the world with barely a mention of where he's going. The first time he talks to Takae he says it would be fun to go on an adventure with her because she would make any trip interesting with her bad luck.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: He couldn't care less about girls and unknowingly attracts them with his looks and charisma.
  • Confusion Fu: Cap doesn't practice any form of martial arts but he's damn strong on his own. The main edge he has over his opponents beyond his luck and speed is how completely unpredictable and unorthodox he is in a fight. During the tournament in S his fighting is described by the announcer as randomly flailing around at high speed with absolutely no technique. He wins every match he's in.
  • Determinator: A trait he shares with Yamato. When Momoyo battled him for leadership of the group she backed down and allowed him to stay leader despite being several leagues ahead of him combat-wise simply because he wouldn't give up.
  • Extremity Extremist: Normally averted as his actual fighting style consists of clumsy flailing, but Momoyo notes that he possess naturally strong legs, and if he were to train them, he would specialize in a fighting style that focus exclusively on kicking.
  • Foil: He's almost the complete opposite of Yamato, at least on the surface. Yamato is tightly controlled, openly manipulative and rather cool while Cap is extremely outgoing, oblivious to others and very hot blooded. However, underneath that they're not so different: They both get put into leadership roles all the time, they like to cheat and they're very stubborn.
  • The Hero: For the Kazama Family. While Yamato is the player character, Kazama fits the position of the standard shonen protagonist ridiculously well.
  • Hero of Another Story: He seems to constantly be out having his own adventures when Yamato isn't with him. For example, in Miyako's route he goes off to Jordan to explore a sprawling underground temple with his dad. They end up down there for a solid month, encountering traps, grave robbers, crooked Jordanian soldiers, and a Living Statue which guards the temple's treasure: an elixir of youth. The whole adventure could easily be the plot of an Indiana Jones movie, and could probably have been its own game.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: He's Yamato's oldest and closest friend. When asked what person he would pick to live with in an deserted island he inmediately chooses Yamato, he tells Yamato in various routes to take some time from his girlfriend to play with him, and when Monshiro declares that she loves Yamato his reply is that he does too. All in all Yamato is possibly his favorite person in the world, but they are only friends and it bothers him when people think otherwise.
  • Hot-Blooded: Enthusiastic, easily excitable as the prospects of new adventures, and serves as his group's source of morale.
  • Idiot Hero: He's not stupid, just too bullheaded to think anything through.
  • Invincible Hero: Despite not being the player character, Cap is very, very clearly the standard hero, to the point where he wins every single fight he's in, if not at first then whenever it actually matters.
  • It's Personal: As Cap says after Gakuto is beaten severely, at first they thought the drug thing really wasn’t that big a deal. They could quit trying to stop all that with a problem. After that, though, This Means War!.
  • Jack of All Stats: He doesn't practice any sort of formal fighting style and thus lacks any of the specialization that the girls do, but he's got powerful legs and is described as "fast as the wind" as well as being able to take a punch. He doesn't excel particularly anywhere in combat, but he can still fight. The manga gives him slightly above average stats in every attribute except speed (which he gets a 95 in), and intelligence (which he gets a 20 in).
  • Jack of All Trades: Naturally talented at basically everything and has worked essentially every job imaginable due to his short attention span.
  • The Leader: He's the charismatic type, contrasting Yamato's plotting, though both are quite sneaky and occasionally unscrupulous. He's also very stubborn: When Momoyo wanted to take over the leadership position back in elementary school she beat him black and blue and he didn't even consider giving up his position. Even when she threatened to break his arm, though she knew that would be going too far. His stubbornness has made her one of the only men she will acknowledge to actually be men.
  • Manchild: Still essentially acts like a little kid obsessed with adventure and with no interest in girls.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Since he has little interest in girls and tends to be overly affectionate with his best friend Yamato, people occasionally worry that Cap might be gay. Especially Yamato.
  • Mr. Fanservice: He provides quite a bit eye candy, and Chika drools at the sight of him in trunks.
  • Nice Guy: Pretty much goes out of his way for anyone he meets simply because he's just a great guy.
  • Professional Gambler: While Cap is still pretty sneaky, he doesn't rely on the gambling tricks Yamato uses. Or rather, he doesn't have to since he can get multiple royal flushes in a row.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Yamato's blue. Yamato has always been a cool and distant plotter while Cap is excessively energetic, impulsive and thoughtless.
  • Romantic Runner-Up: Acknowledged as a man by Momoyo, but by the time he falls for her she already likes Yamato. Or rather, he wouldn’t have fallen for her at all if Yamato hadn’t gotten her to act cute by winning her love and making her blush.
  • Rousing Speech: His specialty.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: After noticing girls for the first time in Momoyo's route, after she starts dating Yamato the other guys wonder if he's finally awoken to women yet. Nope! Still just Momoyo.
  • The Slacker: Prefers having fun over doing any work and thus frequently skips school and quits jobs the moment he loses interest in them.
  • Smarter Than You Look: Yamato thinks he'd be just as good a strategist as he is if he actually applied himself, and he proves several times that this is true.
  • Spell My Name With An S: The translations of the game call him "Capt", the anime calls him "Cap" and the manga flip-flops between the two.
  • Strong, but Unskilled: Momoyo says that he could be a far more effective fighter if he trained his naturally strong legs up more. As he is now, Cap prefers to rely on luck and natural talent. The Inevitable Tournament specifically describes his fighting as random flailing with absolutely no technique, which doesn't seem to impede him during his fights at all. He's actually able to keep up with the lower tier martial artists like Inoue Jun despite his mediocre physique and lack of training.
  • Supporting Leader: He may be The Leader, but Yamato is the focus of the story.
  • Too Dumb to Fool: Or too dumb to outwit. Touma successfully managed to bet 53 points to Yamato's 52 in a blind bidding contest, leaving Yamato's team unable to attack. However, when he had to go against Cap he completely failed to predict how Cap would behave, resulting in Kokoro being removed from the game.
  • We Win, Because You Didn't: Just after meeting Momoyo tried to challenge him for leadership of the group and beat him to a pulp, [[{Determinator}} only for him to refuse to admit defeat.]] There was no way he could ever threaten her, but then she realized one critical thing: The rest of the kids would never be her friends if she actually caused him a serious injury like breaking bones or beating him unconscious, meaning winning was impossible. This makes him pretty much the only male in her age group that she actually respects.
  • Worthy Opponent: Momoyo respects him because he's one of the few people to ever force her to unambiguously acknowledge her own defeat: She could easily beat or even kill him in a fight, but she can't break his spirit. And since the fight in question required her to make him give up without alienating everyone watching by causing genuinely serious injuries, she had to admit defeat and acknowledge that he was the leader.

    Gakuto Shimazu
Voiced by: Takeshi Kusao (Japanese), and Kalob Martinez (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gakuto.jpg

A large and musclebound student, Gakuto tends to receive little respect. He strives for strength and to get girls and achieves some success at the former and none at the latter. He joined the Kazama Family at the same time as Moro after a lengthy fight with Kazama.

  • Badass Normal: Despite constantly getting overshadowed by the girls, Gakuto is capable of taking on an entire army by himself. Momoyo even compliments his physical abilities at one point, saying if he actually learned how to use them he'd be a Worthy Opponent.
  • The Big Guy: Unfortunately, his combat prowess is only impressive when compared to the other guys. None of them can match the girls.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Escapes from the hospital while still injured in order to intercept Ryuuhei, who was about to kill Wanko and Gen.
  • Big Guy Fatality Syndrome: Pretty much the go to guy to hold off the enemy while the others continue on.
  • Big Guy, Little Guy: The big guy to Moro's little guy.
  • Bromantic Foil: Fulfills the "obnoxious pervert" half.
  • Butt-Monkey: Due to being loud, fairly dim and openly perverted he tends to get abused a lot.
  • Calling Your Attacks: While not the only character to do this, Gakuto manages to give various attack names to what is essentially the same attack. He has put several different adjectives in front of his lariats over the series, though the most reoccurring is "HANDSOME LARIAT!"
  • Casanova Wannabe: He's not nearly as much of a lady killer as he thinks he is.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: He's a huge perv but a good guy.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: He constantly works out his muscles which has made him incredibly strong and sturdy, but does no other training besides this. Being really strong doesn't help much if you can't fight.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He actually DOES have the strength to back up his talk, which he gets to show off a few times.
  • Damned by Faint Praise: In a letter Mayucchi is sending to her father, she praises his physical strength and then says there are other good things about him too. She pauses and then says something to the effect of "Well, he's also taught me about being a friend too" and instantly moves on to describing Moro.
  • Dumb Muscle: He's not the sharpest guy around, though he's not the dumbest either.
  • Fishing for Sole: Gakuto goes fishing and doesn’t catch a fish. Nor a boot. Rather, he catches Takae Tachibana. What’s more, she’s used to this happening to her.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Moro.
  • Hollywood Healing: Averted. He's beaten so badly at the start of Agave that he's told recovery will take two months.
  • Hot-Blooded
  • I Just Want to Be Badass: And he IS badass... just not enough to stand out. He becomes a competent Battle Butler in Azumi's route, joining the Kuki Servent Corps alongside Miyako.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's self absorbed and kind of rude, but he's no less of a good person than the rest of the team.
  • Likes Older Women: Gakuto is fundamentally uninterested in girls younger than him, even if he acknowledges them as attractive. He seems to prefer women in their 20s.
  • Mighty Glacier: He’s never taken seriously, but he’s strong enough to knock down walls and is so used to taking a beating from the girls that in terms of performance he probably outshines Wanko at the very least. However, he’s rather slow and isn’t really a martial artist. In the manga, he gets a near perfect score (95 out of 100) in strength and average to below average in everything else.
  • Mr. Fanservice: While he's not considered such in universe, he has huge muscles, is relatively good looking and is very frequently shirtless. Parodied frequently due to his overestimation of his own sex appeal.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: Subverted. He has huge muscles but is completely overshadowed by the girls on the team not because they are physically stronger than he is, but because they are highly trained warriors and he isn't. It goes to show strength isn't everything.
  • Oblivious to Love: Ironically and hilariously whenever a girl shows legitimate interest in Gakuto, it'll fly completely over his head.
  • One-Man Army: He can take out armies no problem. In one on one fighting though, his performance is more lackluster.
  • Put on a Bus: Gakuto gets beaten badly at the beginning of Agave, leaving Gen to take his place.
    • The Bus Came Back: He comes back to finish his fight with Ryuuhei, though, saving Wanko and Gen.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Moro's blue.
  • Ship Tease: Gets some brief moments with several side characters in various routes, but immediately screws them up through his own stupidity.
  • Strong, but Unskilled: Gakuto is incredibly strong, to the point where he could be considered Momoyo's equal strength-wise, however, he lacks any technique behind his strength and is thus left in the dust by all of his highly-trained female companions.
  • Super-Strength: Gakuto flattens a wall with a single blow at the beginning of Agave. While injured.
  • Those Two Guys: Tends to fill this role with Moro.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: While he never really gets acknowledged for it by others, the story allows him to show off in at least one fight per route.
    • Several routes have one of the side characters expressing interest in him, only for him not to notice.
    • He gets a girl's number in Homura's route and says that he's making progress. Unlike the usual turn of events, however, the story leaves it at that rather than explicitly shooting him down and laughing.
  • Took a Level in Badass: In one of the possible endings he trains to become a Kuki-family butler and thus actually learns how to fight and Momoyo states that he could grow to be her equal if he kept up his training.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Tough enough to knock down walls, but has no finesse at all.
  • When All You Have Is a Hammer…: Essentially the only moves Gakuto uses in combat are lariats, but thankfully he's strong enough that spamming them tends to work pretty well.
  • Wouldn't Hit a Girl: While he's fine with women being strong, he has problems fighting them. This ends up screwing him over when he decides to go easy on Kokoro during the class war and gets seriously injured because of it.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain
    • After clearing through a bunch of mooks and taking some mild injuries, he gets thrown into a fight with Ryuuhei. After getting knocked around a bit, he catches Ryuuhei's fist and it's implied he's about to win. Unfortunately, Angel jumps in and ruins the moment via golfclub to the skull. But he does get revenge at the end.
    • Even after Gakuto saves Chika from getting attacked and likely raped, she’s just not interested in him, though she’s genuinely grateful.

    Takuya Morooka
Voiced by: Kenichi Suzumura (Japanese), and Blake Shepard (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/morooka.jpg

The final member of the Kazama Family, Moro is one of the few rational thinkers of the group. He is neither particularly popular nor unpopular which at least saves him from being the butt of gags like Gakuto. He was friends with Gakuto before joining the Kazama family and joined together with him.

  • Action Survivor: He IS willing to get on the battlefield as a last resort, and is a part of Yamato's Suicide Team during the class war.
  • Attractive Bent-Gender: He can convincingly pull it off. So much that Yamato got really squicked from it.
  • Audience Surrogate: He tends to be the one to say what the audience is thinking, despite not being the protagonist.
  • Big Guy, Little Guy: The little guy to Gakuto's big guy.
  • Butt-Monkey: Not to the extent of Gakuto, but he tends to find himself in awkward situations on a regular basis, particularly whenever he's forced to crossdress.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: Not as vocal about it as Gakuto is though.
  • The Confidant: To Yamato, since they are their team's Non Action Guys he helps him plan and organize his strategies. It helps that he's the only member of the team smart enough to really keep up.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He tends to snark a lot, though he's pretty quiet when he does it.
  • Dragged into Drag: Girls from his class rather enjoy forcing him to crossdress. So does Gakuto.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: He's capable of upgrading Cookie and is the only member of the team with any tech knowledge.
  • Girl on Girl Is Hot: Like Momoyo, he lets everyone know about a fantasy of his about the clones in the bath, but instead of talking about more perverse subjects they just talk about their hair. Everyone treats him like a massive pervert for it.
  • The Heart: Tends to be the sole stabilizing factor in the Kazama family. It should also be noticed that he's the only member of the team who doesn't have a rival, simply because he doesn't seek out conflict like the others do.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Gakuto.
  • Hidden Depths: Discovers an interest in acting in multiple routes, which he pursues as a hobby.
  • In-Series Nickname: Generally referred to as Moro by everyone.
  • Nice Guy: He's a very sweet guy.
  • No Guy Wants an Amazon: He's the only one of the guys with any problems that the girls are so strong, mostly because while the other guys can at least fight, he's a complete and total Non-Action Guy.
  • Non-Action Guy: Though none of the guys in the group are great fighters (relative to the girls at least), Moro is a non action guy even relative to them. The others can at least take some punishment.
  • Only Sane Man: Actively engaged in a Boke and Tsukkomi Routine with most of the Kazama Family.
  • Otaku: He's pale, weak, shy and loves reading manga.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Gakuto's red.
  • Shorter Means Smarter: The shortest guy in the Kazama Family, but most likely the smartest technologically.
  • Shy Blue-Haired Girl: A male example.
  • Sidekick: Plays this role to Yamato during major wars due to being the other non-combatant on the team.
  • The Smart Guy: Lacks Yamato's strategic talents, but is capable of transforming Cookie into a Humongous Mecha through a little fiddling.
  • Stupid Sexy Flanders: Occasionally found attractive (especially back in Middle School) by his male friends. While Gakuto is totally cool with being attracted to his best friend, Moro is rather horrified by the revelation.
  • Teen Genius: Downplayed, but he's apparently a whiz at robotics.
  • The Team Normal: Essentially the only realistic character in the Kazama family.
  • Those Two Guys: Tends to fill this role with Gakuto.
  • Unrequited Love: Appears to be in love with Miyako, but unfortunately even on the routes where she fails to win Yamato over he gets a gentle brush-off.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Moro seems to have acquired the habit in several after stories.
