Gelato 5

The resident Sentai team whose design is based on ice cream flavors. Currently has five members and led by Professor Big Gelato.

    Fudo Aikawa/Red Gelato
Voiced by: Yūsuke Kobayashi (Japanese), Anthony DiMascio (English), Carlo Vázquez (Latin Spanish)

The male lead and face of the Gelato 5, as well as Desumi's Love Interest. A righteous young man who's dedicated to physical training, he falls in love with Desumi, the Reaper Princess, at first sight and decides to confess to her, kickstarting their unusual relationship.

  • The Ace: Of Gelato 5 being both the strongest member and defacto team leader.
  • Amazon Chaser: He fell in love at first sight with a girl known as "Reaper Princess", who is a formidable flail-wielding fighter, but that is not the only thing that attracts him.
  • The Comically Serious: He is always unwaveringly serious and earnest about everything he does. He keeps the same serious facial expression at all times, even during his dates with Desumi.
  • Dating Catwoman: He fell in love with Reaper Princess, an enemy commander.
  • Decoy Protagonist: Non-lethal example. While he may be The Hero and leader of the Gelato 5, he ultimately takes a back seat to Desumi, whose POV takes center stage after they start dating officially. He remains the second most important character in the story due to his relationship with Desumi but he's not the POV character after all.
  • Determinator: Probably Fudo's defining trait. He's incredibly dedicated to whatever he sends his mind to, making him an effective hero but having the side effect of a one track mind.
  • Deuteragonist: He's the second most important character after Desumi.
  • Dumb Muscle: Downplayed. Despite being obsessed with physical training and seemingly incapable of thinking outside that topic, he actually does rather well in school, being in the top ten of his year. He is also extremely knowledgable on the topic of insects, having literally written a book on the topic. Other than those, he's a Genius Ditz.
  • Fitness Nut: Fudo is fully dedicated to physical fitness, training regimens, and protein bars. The only thing that can (almost) take his mind off of fitness is Desumi.
  • Friendly Rival: After Anna reveals her feelings for Desumi, they become this. She still hasn't given up on fighting for Desumi's affections, but they're united by their shared love for her.
  • Genius Bruiser: He's an incredibly fit young man who also happens to be in the top ten of his year in school. This is thanks to the fact that his intense devotion to physical exercise extends to his studies, espcially Math where he visualizes shapes and formulas as muscles. The ending shows him as a Math teacher while also fighting alongside Desumi as Reaper Prince under the united Gelato and Gekko to protect Japan from foreign villains.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: He's the male protagonist, the Red Ranger of the Gelato 5 and wields a longsword.
  • Heroic Willpower: When a monster controlled by foreign villains manages to down all of Gelato 5 in the final story arc, Fudo gets up to keep fighting to get to his anniversary date with Desumi and almost dies for it.
  • Hunk: In contrast to his other male teammates, he has a noticeably broader and more muscular build. Makes sense considering his obsession with physical training.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Fudo is one of the few people that can keep up with Desumi's outstanding strength and speed in a fight.
  • Love at First Sight: Declares that he was instantly attracted to Desumi the first time they met.
  • Made of Iron: He's just as insanely tough as you'd expect from the musclehead leader of a sentai team. Even when he's at ground zero of an explosion that partially levels Gekko's Elaborate Underground Base, all he suffers is a small cut on his cheek. As for regular combat, he could take anything that Desumi (the strongest of Gekko's field commanders by a wide margin) could dish out even back in the days when she was going all out against him.
  • Meaningful Name: "Fudo" (不動) means "immovable", which can refer to his unwavering sense of justice and his absolute commitment to training, as well as his one-track mind.
  • Mistaken for Cheating: Desumi catches Fudo talking with Haru in a café and ends up assuming the worst after her friends remark that they look like the perfect couple, even though Haru was really just trying (and failing) to talk about the photo exposing him hanging out with Desumi in their civilian guises. Played With in that later Desumi admits that she knows Fudo wouldn't be the kind of guy to cheat on her, but the thought of him and Haru being a picture-perfect couple seriously flared up her insecurities, causing her to try to push him away.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Dude is absolutely ripped and is often seen working out. Nearly every female in the series finds him desirable.
  • Nice Guy: He is earnest to a fault, willing to lend a hand to anyone he thinks is in trouble, and is an Understanding Boyfriend to Desumi. Even when he discovers Anna is his rival for Desumi's affections, he's just happy to have someone else who understands her awesomeness, offering to stay up all night and talk about how great she is.
  • One Head Taller: Desumi's head only reaches his chest.
  • Shared Family Quirks: Turns out his mother is as much of a fitness nut as he is, though she's more sport-oriented.
  • Stalker with a Crush: A mild example that isn't really commented on, but after meeting Desumi, he proceeded to rather religiously follow her on social media in order to get a fuller idea of who she is as a person and left a reply on every one of her posts.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He and his mother have very similar facial features.
  • Understanding Boyfriend: He never pressures Desumi into defecting from Gekko and completely trusts her to make her own decisions.

    Hayato Ojino/Blue Gelato
Voiced by: Kazuyuki Okitsu (Japanese), Nazeeh Tarsha (English), Héctor Mena (Latin Spanish)

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Ends up being one in the eyes of Kiki/Beast Princess, as he constantly chases her whenever they meet, akin to Pepe Le Pew chasing Penelope Cat from Looney Tunes.
    • He joins the heroic Gekko in the epilogue, and keeps pursuing her.
  • The Casanova: His defining trait. He loves the attention of the ladies wherever he goes.
  • Chick Magnet: Girls keep flocking to him due to his pretty looks.
  • Dual Wielding: His weapon is a pair of short swords.
  • Gratuitous English: In the Japanese version, he peppers his speech with English words here and there, such as "What?" or "My sweet honey".
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Hayato does not like any guy getting more attention than him, especially from the girls
  • Meaningful Name: Ōji (王子) in Ōjino (王子野) means "prince", referring to his princely looks.
  • Pretty Boy: He loves to show off his handsome looks to the ladies.

    Misaki Jinguji/Yellow Gelato
Voiced by: Nene Hieda (Japanese), Morgan Garrett (English), Cecilia Guerrero (Latin Spanish)

  • Cool Big Sis: Acts like this to Fudo and Haru.
  • Genki Girl: The most energetic and outgoing of the team.
  • Gossipy Hens: Refers to herself as a master of gossip when she notices Fudo preparing for his first date, as him being in any relationship at all is too juicy of a topic for her to ignore.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: Enjoys drinking alcohol whenever she can and has the jovial personality to match.
  • Ms. Fanservice: As the most well-endowed female character on the heroes' side, her body tends to get plenty of focus. One particular instance is a scene featuring her talking to Fudo on the phone while relaxing in a hot spring bath.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: After becoming depressed about her position on the team, Misaki quits drinking for a while which everyone noticed. At the same time, this helped Misaki realize everyone sees her as a Hard-Drinking Party Girl and is actually taken aback by this.
  • Office Lady: Used to be one before Daigo spotted her "venting frustrations from her work" on Gekko's troops and recruited her.
  • Ship Tease: Misaki enjoys flirting with Daigo and trying to get him to become her boyfriend and gets extremely annoyed that he's such a stickler for the "No Office Romance" rules. Going as far as to ask if he'd like to go into a mixed-bath with her.
    • In the epilogue, Misaki retires from the Gelato 5 and opens a restaurant with Daigo, confirming the two have finally started their relationship and she couldn't be happier.

    Daigo Todoroki/Green Gelato
Voiced by: Junji Majima (Japanese), Jason Lord (English), Alfredo Gabriel Basurto, Sebastián García (child) (Latin Spanish)

  • Always Someone Better: Desumi is this to him from all the way back during the days when he was supposed to be her mentor. Though Desumi always admired his efforts to best her under the mistaken belief that he was training her to control her Super-Strength, Daigo was left with full-blown PTSD over failing time and again to defeat her.
  • Big Brother Mentor: He acted as Desumi’s martial arts mentor after the dojo they went to closed down. While Desumi wholeheartedly appreciated his company and even refers to him as "Daigo nii-chan," Daigo was deeply traumatized by the experience.
  • Like Brother and Sister: One-sided on Desumi's end, as she admires him as an older brother figure for helping her control her strength. He, on the other hand, gets panic attacks around her because she constantly bested him in ways that nearly killed him.
  • Power Fist: He wields a pair of gauntlets in battle, which fits his martial arts background.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Like Fudo, Daigo is a well-built man fro his marital arts training, this coupled with his Supreme Chef skills and Big Brother Instinct makes him to center of Misaki's affections.
  • Ship Tease: Despite his strict adherence to the "No Office Romance" rules, Daigo does reciprocate Misaki's feelings for him to some extent. This comes to a head when Misaki tries to quit the team and Daigo lifts her spirits and makes it clear, he won't let her quit until he decides.
    • In the epilogue, Daigo retires from the Gelato 5 and opens a restaurant with Misaki, confirming the two have finally started their relationship
  • The Stoic: Typically calm and unflappable, with Nerves of Steel in combat, unless Desumi comes up.
  • Supreme Chef: His cooking skills are top-notch and he tends to serve as the Team Chef, even admitting his dream is to open a restaurant some day.
  • Trauma Button: Desumi's presence triggers his painful memories of being constantly outmatched by her, even though he was supposed to be her mentor in martial arts. The irony is that he doesn't even know she's Reaper Princess.

    Haru Arisugawa/Pink Gelato
Voiced by: Rina Hidaka (Japanese), Macy Anne Johnson (English), Estefanía Piedra (Latin Spanish)

  • The Cutie: She is the youngest member of the team with an adorable, petite appearance to match.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Which complement her cute looks.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: She has a crush on Fudo, but relents after dueling Desumi and realizing how happy Fudo has become thanks to his relationship with Desumi and she cannot bring herself to take that happiness away from them. Afterwards, she's become their Shipper on Deck.
  • Pink Is Feminine: Her battle suit and casual outfits prominently feature the pink color, and she's the girliest member of the team.
  • Secret-Keeper: While the whole Gelato 5 eventually learns about Fudo's relationship with Desumi, Haru's the only one who knows that Desumi is the Reaper Princess. She's also the one on the lookout whenever the couple sneak out of battle to have some time for themselves.
  • Shipper on Deck: Ends up an avid supporter of Fudo and Desumi.
  • Technicolor Eyes: Pink, in keeping with her color scheme.
  • Yaoi Fangirl: When Fudo tutors her, she admits to herself that the reason she can barely keep up with his various muscle analogies is due to reading BL. She becomes a BL mangaka in the epilogue.

    Hyoka Charlotte Rurimiya/Platinum Gelato
Voiced by:

  • The Ace: Hyoka is basically every "Mary Sue" character rolled into one, that's how "perfect" she is.
  • All Love Is Unrequited: Like many girls, she has a crush on Fudo and just can't get him to see her in any romantic light no matter how hard she tries, and she tries hard to get him to fall for her.
  • Always Someone Better: Hyoka is literally this to just about everyone and she revels in it.
  • Ambition Is Evil: Hyoka becomes the Supreme Commander of the reformed Gekko/Gelato 5 union, and has to be constantly reminded that the group's goal is no longer world domination because she's still gunning for dominion of the world!
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She may be sweet on the outside, but it's clear she relishes in her perceived perfection, enjoying watching the "peasants" grovel at how amazing she is.
  • Hard Work Hardly Works: Played with, while it is clear Hyoka is an extremely accomplish young lady, having genius level intellect and great strength, she sees no point in overexerting herself if she doesn't want to.
  • Insane Troll Logic: If she wants to win at something she is also going to use her vast sums of money to "win" without trying aka bribery and hiring people more skilled than her.
    • Example, Hyoka sees no problem with hiring major league baseball players to beat a little league team. She also argues so long as she pays for experts, it's exactly the same as her doing all the work.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Despite being one of the few who seriously tries to challenge Desumi for Fudo's affections, Hyoka eventually realizes Fudo truly loves Desumi and moves on.
  • Sixth Ranger: Literally, she becomes the sixth member of the Gelato 5, "Platinum Gelato".

    Professor Big Gelato
Voiced by: Chafurin (Japanese), Charlie Campbell (English), Eduardo Tejedo (Latin Spanish)

  • Big Fun: In a 'kindly grandpa' sort of way. His cuddly figure is a reflection of his equally cuddly personality.
  • Big Good: The Mentor of the Gelato Five and their employer.
  • Labcoat of Science and Medicine: As part of his "Professor" image.
  • The Mentor: Of the Gelato Five.
  • Mission Control: Announces the Gelato 5's missions and stays in the home base.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: When Fudo tells him he has feelings for someone, he insists Fudo pursue happiness and for Fudo to stuff any advice he's ever heard about heroes having to be alone and solely dedicated to their work.
  • Science Hero: He is stated to be the one who created the Gelato 5's combat equipment.

Gekko

The villainous group the Gelato 5 fight against. Their goal is to wreak havoc in order to gather Negative Energy, which is needed to create powerful monsters, including their trump card, the Ultimate Phantom. Their ranks are divided into squads, each of them led by a "beastified" commander and a sub-commander (referred to as "Princess").

Bear Squad

    Desumi Magahara/Reaper Princess
Voiced by: Ikumi Hasegawa (Japanese), Lindsay Seidel (English), Georgina "Gina" Sánchez, Bonnie Miuller (child), Varenka Carrillo (teen) (Latin Spanish)

The main character, female lead, and sub-commander of the Bear squad. An otherwise normal high-school girl with superhuman strength, she got enlisted to Gekko by her father against her own will. She accepted Fudo's sudden confession and agreed to go out with him.

  • The Ace: She got promoted straight to Princess out of her examinations - she is an extremely strong and adept fighter, though part of her reputation is exaggerated by Daigo. On top of that, she also gets perfect marks on all her exams.
  • Ancestral Name: Named for her father Desuo; if they'd had a son instead, they'd have named him Kiruo, for her mother Kirumi.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Has no qualms about beating the crap out of anyone who threatens her younger sister.
  • Comedic Sociopathy: The fact that she's a sweet girl with Super-Strength who happens to occasionally strike her boyfriend when flustered wouldn't be funny if he wasn't Made of Iron.
  • Connected All Along: She's been involved in the lives of no less than three of the Gelato Five — Daigo trained her in martial arts, she went on to protect Haru from thugs, and currently is dating Fudo.
  • Cool Big Sis: Idolized by her younger sister, Urami.
  • Daddy's Girl: She loves her father and always wants to make him proud of her. Which becomes an issue when he wants her to work for Gekko full time after high school and she wants to go to college with Fudo.
  • Declining Promotion: She was offered a position as a Beast Commander. She considered it when she thought she could be cute like Drone Rabbit. But after it was revealed she would be fused with a gorilla, she turned it down. She comes back and takes it when Japan is attacked by foreign supervillains that are far too powerful to be defeated otherwise.
  • Does Not Know Her Own Strength: Struggled with this as a child, trying to avoid breaking whatever - and whoever - she played with.
  • The Dreaded: As Reaper Princess both the Gelato 5 and her own subordinates are terrified of her for her strength and (exaggerated) reputation. As Desumi, Daigo is utterly scared of her due to having trained her in martial arts and knowing just how strong she is, and is even more scared of the possibility of her joining Gekko.
  • Dressed Like a Dominatrix: Comes with being an enemy commander, but Desumi is as far from being a villain and a dominatrix as it gets.
  • Epic Flail: Her weapon is a spiked ball-and-chain.
  • Expressive Mask: When her eyes aren't visible through her skull mask's eyeholes, the eyeholes themselves change to match her emotions.
  • Extreme Doormat:
    • After talking with Fudo about being promoted to Commander, Desumi realizes that she has been making decisions to fulfill the expectations of others instead of for herself.
    • Her desire to be seen as normal may make her act like this as well. For example, when Anna Hojo bullied her, she did nothing to defend herself despite being more than able to put her in her place.
  • Forced into Evil: She didn't even sign up to Gekko of her own free will, and while very few of the Gekko are especially bad people, she's an outright Nice Girl.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: She actually saved Haru from a group of thugs, which became one of the reasons the latter joined the Gelato 5.
  • Freaky Fashion, Mild Mind: Her Gekko uniform is a Stripperiffic death-themed catsuit. The girl who wears it thinks that holding hands before the sixth date is a bit too forward for her tastes.
  • Genius Bruiser: She's shown to get perfect scores on multiple tests when she studies with Fudo and Haru while also being an absolutely terrifying fighter as Reaper Princess. Unfortunately, her teaching methods involve her using nonsensical language, landing her in Genius Ditz territory with Fudo who sees everything as muscles when he studies.
  • Godzilla Threshold: In the final battle Desumi has Bosslar fuse her with a gorilla to achieve the power needed to fight the incredibly powerful foreign villains that were taking on both Gekko and the Gelato Five, and wins.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Despite playing the role of a sexy blonde villainess, Desumi is a sweet girl who wants to get along with everyone around her. However, misunderstandings cause her Gekko colleagues to fear her.
  • Inexplicably Awesome: No one, not even herself, knows where her monstrous strength and stamina comes from. She apparently gets it from her mother, but nobody knows where she got it from.
  • Insecure Love Interest: For a number of factors including her Super-Strength and the fact that she's part of the enemy faction, she's not sure if she's cut out for a guy like Fudo or dating at all.
  • Lightning Bruiser: The series's premier example. She's incredibly strong and incredibly fast, with only the absolute best of the best (like Fudo) even approaching her.
  • Lonely at the Top: Daigo's perspective on how she was when he last knew her, a bored and lonely girl isolated by her incredible strength.
  • Meaningful Name: "Desu" sounds like "death", matching her Grim Reaper motif.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: You wouldn't guess how strong she is given her lack of visible muscles.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Even as a little girl her strength was superhuman, to where she beat the dojo's sensei up so badly that he closed the place down the next day. When she punched Daigo with all of her strength, his life flashed before his eyes.
  • Positive Friend Influence: Despite officially being supervillains, Desumi helps Kiki, Kyoko, and Ran Ran all become better people over the course of the story.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: She only joined Gekko because her father enlisted her on his own, and tries to spend as much time away from battle as possible to be with Fudo.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: She falls for Fudo, who's as earnest and virtuous as you can get.
  • Sixth Ranger: At one point Daigo was considering recruiting her into the Gelato 5, causing both her and Fudo to have an Imagine Spot of her becoming “Black Gelato”. She's sorely tempted, but the big dealbreaker is that she wouldn't be allowed to date Fudo anymore.
  • Smitten Teenage Girl: Like a typical girl her age, she's very affectionate toward Fudo and can't stand being apart from him for too long.
  • Stripperiffic: Her battle outfit can be described as a dominatrix costume with shoulder pads (which look like bare-boned hands) and a cape.
  • Strong and Skilled: Her super strength is something she was apparently born with and she's only gotten better at fighting thanks to her martial arts training.
  • Super-Strength: She has possessed superhuman strength since childhood.
  • The Ugly Guy's Hot Daughter: She is a beauty where her father is a portly gonk. Flashbacks show she gets her looks from her mother.
  • Villain Protagonist: Zigzagged. She's not exactly a villain, but she does work for a supervillain group regardless. Nevertheless, the story is very much centered around Desumi. Her struggling to balance her secret love life with her job as a supervillain, her relationship with her family, her student life, her growing friendships with her coworkers, and her personal desire to be normal and happy all form the core of the story.

    Culverin Bear
Voiced by: Hiroki Yasumoto (Japanese), Cris George (English), Carlos del Campo (Latin Spanish)

Lion Squad

    Kiki Majima/Beast Princess
Voiced by: Kana Hanazawa (Japanese), Brittney Karbowski (English), Gabriela Gris (Latin Spanish)

  • A-Cup Angst: Expresses annoyance at Steel Princess' very well-endowed bust.
  • Blood Knight: The most gung-ho of the Princesses, who's always itching for a fight.
  • Character Development: Thanks to Desumi's influence, Kiki subtly changes as a person. She starts off being distant, professional (by her standards), and mission-oriented, not wanting to get close to her coworkers and thinking of Desumi as her rival. But the more she interacts with Desumi and Kyoko, the more Kiki starts seeing them as genuine friends. Even though her pride still gets in the way, Kiki does enjoy hanging out with Desumi and Kyoko, grows to care about them a great deal, and even outright calls Desumi her rival and friend, and putting both her dignity and life on the line for the people she cares about.
  • Femininity Failure: Subverted. Despite openly stating she thinks femininity is a waste of time, during the montage of attempts to help Steel Princess bring out her femininity she's shown to be at least competent in every activity she participates in, in particular painting her nails flawlessly.
  • Japanese Delinquent: Dresses like one at school despite being Head Prefect, complete with a long skirt and a bamboo sword.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite her pride and protests to the contrary, Kiki constantly gets wrapped up in Desumi's antics regardless, and there's even a growing not-so-subtle hint that she very much enjoys hanging out with her "rival" Desumi far more than she may admit. It gets to a point where, when Ran Ran is reluctant to go along with Desumi's offer of friendship in the form of a slumber party, Kiki even tells Ran Ran to just roll with it, finally accepting that Desumi will always put you around her orbit regardless.
  • Stripperiffic: Fitting for a villainess with a "wild beast" motif, her outfit leaves very little to the imagination. The biggest piece of her costume is her lion-themed headdress.
    • This leads to some Irony in the Beach Episode. Her regular outfit covers less than any other characters' in the show, but she ends up wearing a modest School Swimsuit, and feels more embarrassed in it than her usual monokini.
  • Wolverine Claws: As part of her beast motif, she attacks with sharp claws. She even calls it “Rampaging Lion Claws”.

    Railgun Lion

Snake Squad

    Kyoko Kuroyuri/Steel Princess
Voiced by: Hisako Kanemoto (Japanese), Hope Endrenyi (English), Polly Huerta (Latin Spanish)

  • Battle Couple: With Culverin Bear after she confesses to him.
  • Bespectacled Cutie: She wears glasses and is rather introverted.
  • Character Development: She begins the series as a literal shut-in, almost never removing her armor, having no confidence in herself, and being quieter than either Kiki or Desumi. But as Desumi bonds with her, and helps her gain the confidence to ask Culverin Bear out, Kyoko not only begins to talk more often but also appears without her armor more often, becomes more self-assured of her femininity, and freely participates in Desumi's hijinks with no protests or reservations.
  • Femininity Failure: She feels she doesn't have any features appealing in a woman, and her attempts to learn makeup, cooking, and feminine manners all end in failure, causing her to withdraw into her armor until Desumi convinces her to be herself. This leads to the hilariously ironic reveal that she sports an incredibly feminine figure and outfit underneath her armor.
  • Hidden Buxom: She has the largest chest of any of the Princesses, even though she keeps it hidden under her armor.
  • I Am Not Pretty: Sees herself as plain. It verges on parody when she decides to confess to her crush, and ditches her armor - revealing she's a curvaceous, leggy woman with long glossy black hair, who'd been wearing a black mini dress the whole time, much to Desumi and Kiki's surprise.
  • Iron Maiden: Her battle armor is designed like one, which is capable of producing spikes that can pierce concrete.
  • Student Council President: Serves this role at Desumi’s school.
  • Unkempt Beauty: Played to absurd extremes. She has absolutely no concept of how attractive she is beneath her ridiculously unflattering armor, and her "dressing room" turns out to actually just be an empty concrete cube without any makeup or dressers in sight. And yet she still looks like an immaculate supermodel beneath her costume.

    Catapult Snake
Voiced by: Sayaka Kaneko (Japanese), Ciarán Strange (English), Karina Altamirano (Latin Spanish)

  • Ascended Extra: Gets more appearances and lines in the anime.
  • Brawn Hilda: She's more monstrous than ugly, but she's a massively muscular snake-person who only looks tangentially feminine.
  • Gossipy Hens: A neutral-to-benign example. She's a big fan of gossip, and is usually found at or near the heart of Gekko's rumour-mill, but it's always out of sincere curiosity and sociability rather than malice.
  • Snakes Are Sinister: An enemy commander in the form of a muscular humanoid cobra.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Of Gekko's commanders, she has the sharpest contrast between her appearance (monstrous) and her voice (cute and feminine).

Eagle Squad

    Heat Princess (MAJOR UNMARKED SPOILERS

Heat Princess/Anna Hojo

Voiced by: Ayane Sakura (Japanese), Tia Ballard (English), Ana Lucía Ramos (Latin Spanish)

  • Affectionate Nickname: Refers to Fudo as "Fudocchi" after they become love rivals.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Her crush on Desumi was caused by Desumi reaching out to her while she felt ostracized at school.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: Downplayed. She's drawn as slightly chubbier than most of the rest of the main female cast, but she's no less attractive.
  • Blackmail Backfire: Tries to blackmail Fudo to break him and Desumi up. It fails since Fudo strongly refused to do so, so she settled for Fudo kissing her hand... but she was too embarrassed to go through with that. She later gives up when she admits to Fudo she is in love with Desumi and becomes The Rival with Fudo for Desumi's heart instead.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Is in love with Desumi, but will not admit it to her.
  • Compressed Hair: While at the Princess Sleepover, she manages to hide her long hair while only wearing her helmet from her Heat Princess costume. Even though it's shown to be far longer than the length of her helmet in her civilian appearance.
  • Fiery Redhead: Ironically, not when she's playing the role of Heat Princess, but when off the clock, she's an easily-flustered, hot-headed Large Ham.
  • Friendly Rival: With Fudo after she finally confesses to him her feelings for Desumi. She still intends to fight for Desumi's affections, but the two of them are united by their shared love for her.
  • Hopeless Suitor: She has the hots for Desumi, but with Desumi's heart being set on Fudo (and presumably Incompatible Orientation), she has no chance.
  • Incompatible Orientation: The one other reason why she has no hope of getting romantically involved with Desumi besides the girl in question being set on Fudo.
  • Loving Bully: It seems like she's just a plain old bully to Desumi when she's first introduced, but it turns out that she's belligerent because she Cannot Spit It Out that she's in love with Desumi.
  • Psycho Lesbian: Subverted. She did attempt to blackmail Fudo into breaking up with Desumi but winds up not being able to go through with it after Fudo remains resolute in refusing her demands. While she is part of Gekko, like Desumi, she's more of a Punch-Clock Villain who otherwise behaves like a secretly love-struck high schooler.
  • The Quiet One: Does not speak at all when in costume. In the anime, the only sounds she makes in costume are Vader Breaths. Out of costume however, she is anything but quiet.
  • Secret Identity: As part of the Princess series she also attends Desumi's high school, though none of the others in Gekko know her identity. She is Desumi's Alpha Bitch, Gyaru Girl classmate, who is secretly a Loving Bully towards her.
  • Secret-Keeper: She is the only one in Gekko that knows about Desumi's relationship with Fudo. Unlike Pink Gelato/Haru, she first tries to blackmail Fudo into breaking up with Desumi, but later views Fudo as The Rival for Desumi's heart and keeps the relationship secret out of respect.
  • Stalker with a Crush: How she found out about Fudo and Desumi's relationship.
  • Walking Spoiler: The Secret Identity of Heat Princess being Anna Hojo comes as a very big surprise that recontextualizes a lot of her prior character, alongside the character of Anna Hojo herself.

    Matchlock Eagle
Voiced by: Hikaru Midorikawa (Japanese), Bardo Miranda (Latin Spanish)

Rabbit Squad

    Ran Ran/Judgment Princess
Voiced by: Nashiko Momotsuki (Japanese), Erika Langarica (Latin Spanish)

  • Anime Chinese Girl: Aside from her Chinese name, her hair's in a single braid and she wears a tangzhuang. Her costume's design also invokes Chinese opera aesthetics.
  • Bilingual Bonus: Her name Ran Ran translates to “disturbance” and her attack name Duàn Zuì Liè Lún (断罪裂轮) is “Chakra of Sin Splitting” in Chinese.
  • Character Development: Even though she's just a side character, Ran Ran undergoes some positive growth after interacting with Desumi. She starts off quiet, only speaking when she has her mask on, keeping to herself, and staying away from the rest of Gekko, befitting her role as a spy. But after being tricked into joining Desumi's slumber party, she starts understanding and appreciating the idea of being friends with her fellow Gekko Princesses, and even talks more without the mask on.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: She's the tech expert among the Princesses, using her gadgets to confuse her opponents.
  • Master of Disguise: She can take the appearance of anyone in the blink of an eye, with the help of Latex Perfection.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper:
    • Her constant usage of Fudo as a disguise in Desumi's presence, plus her official role as an information seeker, heavily imply she's aware of Desumi's (at the very least) crush on Fudo, but she never addresses it otherwise. She would have every right as a Gekko member to out Desumi for even having a crush on the enemy, but she never does.
    • Her monologue in Chapter 29 reveals she'd suspected it, but the events of that story finally confirmed it for her. On the flip side, Desumi knows she knows, though it's open whether Ran Ran is aware of that.
  • Troll: There was no reason for her to show up as Fudo other than to see Desumi sweating buckets for her amusement.

    Drone Rabbit
Voiced by: Kana Ichinose (Japanese), Corey Pettit (English), Ana Lobo (Latin Spanish)

  • Cute Monster Girl: She looks more like a mascot character than a "beastified" villain. Looking at her makes Desumi briefly think becoming a Beast Commander might not be so bad if she were to be fused with something cute... only for her to be told she'll be fusing with a gorilla.

Wolf Squad

    Kira Sanzugawa/Blood Princess
Voiced by: Miyuki Sawashiro (Japanese), Sarah Roach (English), Adriana Casas (Latin Spanish)

  • The Dreaded: She has this reputation among the other Princesses. Not because of her being more dangerous, but because she's obsessed with babying any of her "patients" to the point of dressing them up as babies and brainwashing them into calling her "mommy". Kiki in particular is still suffering from residual effects of such treatment, as she still refers to her as "mommy".
  • Everybody Hates Hades: Her name is associated with death and she's The Dreaded among the other Princesses.
  • Everything's Better with Samurai: Her armor is based on that of a samurai.
  • Expy: Her looks, samurai motif, and especially her twisted maternal sense seem to be inspired by Minanoto-no-Raikou from Fate/Grand Order.
  • Ignored Enamored Underling: She has an unrequited crush on Bosslar.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: "Kira" sounds similar to "killer" and "Sanzugawa" is a shortened form of "Sanzu-no-kawa", the Japanese equivalent of River Styx.
  • School Nurse: Serves this role at Desumi’s school.

    Gatling Wolf

Leader

    Supreme Leader Bosslar
Voiced by: Tomokazu Sugita (Japanese), Reagan Murdock (English), Santos Alberto (Latin Spanish)

  • Affably Evil: When Fudo is hospitalized due to appendicitis, Bosslar sends him get-well flowers complete with a written note stating that he can only die by Gekko's hands.
  • Big Bad: The leader of Gekko and main villain of the show.
  • Chew-Out Fake-Out: When Desumi declines her promotion to Commander, it seems like he will punish her for defying him just like a typical villainous Bad Boss, but he praises her instead for choosing not to rely on beastification to gain additional power, much to the Commanders' collective shock and embarrassment.
  • Meaningful Name: Bosslar is the Boss.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He turns out to be this, as he approved Desumi's decision to decline her promotion into a beast hybrid without reservation and even commended her for choosing to rely on her own strength. Unfortunately, he's so intimidating that everyone else assumed he was a Bad Boss and that they had no say in the matter regarding beastification. Needless to say, the other Commanders were ticked off by the revelation that there was such an option.
