Hikaru
Cool and collected leader of the Exo-Force team. He is competitive and prefers to work solo, which gets him in troubles at first.- Cold Sniper: Most of his battle machines have good ranged options and he's a loner at first.
- Cool Shades: His minifigure gives him orange shades, but his Animesque design from the comics only has them be a mainstay during the jungle arc with him only wearing them once before then.
- Headbutting Heroes: With Takeshi, at least early in the comics.
- Ineffectual Loner: Is very reluctant to work as a team at first, but slowly learns to trust in others.
- Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Early in the comics, his loner status makes it pretty hard for him to get involved in teamwork missions.
Takeshi
Fierce and serious guy who lives for one thing - to smash the robots into tiny pieces. He used to be a miner at the shouthern peak of Sentai Mountain before the robots rebelled and he was separated from his family. While he has destroyed more robots than any other pilot, but his ruthlessness makes him unpredictable in battle.- Attack! Attack! Attack!: While he can and has been able to came up with pretty awesome plans Takeshi seems to like strategies like this much better. This is even lampshaded by him:Takeshi, when taken to the labs by Sensei Keiken: But why'd you bring me here? Ryo's the techie in our group - I'm more of a blunt object.
- Curtains Match the Window: Has both green hair and eyes.
- Disney Death: Is defeated by Meca One and disappears for a bit before Hikaru finds and saves him.
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Takeshi is driven by the robots capturing his family. He gets mostly over this once they are rescued by Hikaru.
- Stay in the Kitchen: While he doesn't display this trait in the comics, the tie-in books have him act hostile towards Hitomi for this reason, saying that he thinks that it was a mistake to put her in uniform even as the Golden Tower's guard. After they have to work together to get the next code however, he admits that she's a pretty good pilot and defends her when Sensei Keiken is furious with her for disobeying his orders.

Ryo
Exo-Force's head mechanic. He is a genius when it comes to repairing and designing battle machines. Speaking and working fast, he's extremely resourceful and valuable member to the team.- Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Has a habit of thinking his battle machines as if they were alive ( espesially Uplink, the first one he designed and built for himself ).
- Combat Medic: Ryo usually gets smaller support machines, but does just as well in a tank or the fairly awesome Blazing Falcon.
- Distressed Dude: Briefly gets captured by the robots.
- The Smart Guy: The mechanic of the team, and really passionate about working on the battle machines.
Ha-Ya-To
Laidback jokester who loves flying more than anything. He copes with war by turning it into his own personal action ride, but that also makes him take unnecessary risks in battle.- Distressed Dude: Almost got captured by the robots during the Golden City Era, Hitomi rescues him.
- Fragile Speedster: He usually pilots small and fast battle machines that can't really take a hit. However, they are very good for dodging and harassing bigger and slower robot battle machines.
- Hot-Blooded: He views his battles as if they're games, and he's enthusiastic about it.
- Lightning Bruiser: Ha-Ya-To later gets to pilot Aero Booster, which is said to be THE fastest battle machine in whole series, in addition of having considerable number of missiles and laser guns mounted all over its gigantic engines.
- Out of Focus: During the Sentai Mountain arc he gets very little screentime despite being one of the four main characters. This changes during the Golden City arc thou.
Sensei Keiken
Mentor and leader of the Exo-Force team. Stern and wise leader, he is responsible for creating Meca One.- Badass in Distress: Gets kidnapped by Meca One.
- Big Good: Is the leader of the Exo-Force team.
- Cool Old Guy: His old age doesn't stop him from being the leader of the Exo-Force team. He also had one moment of defeating a robot by acrobatically jumping behind it and turning the switch off.Sensei Keiken: "Never underestimate an old man, my metal friend."
- Passing the Torch: Before being kidnapped by Meca One, he manages to leave a message promoting Hitomi as leader.
- Stay in the Kitchen: Sensei Keiken never allows Hitomi to be a pilot after losing her parents because he can't bear the thought of losing her, despite admitting that she's passed all of the theoretical material and her tests indicate she could very well become a great pilot. It was only until Ha-Ya-To needed rescuing and Ryo being put out of commission does she finally get her chance.
Hitomi
Sensei Keiken's granddaughter and one of the mechanics in Ryo's team. Brave and determined, she becomes a pilot against her grandfather's wishes.- Adaptational Badass: The only set that she comes in and the comic included in said set's instruction manual paint her as a Faux Action Girl who lacks a mech and doesn't get to see much action. The comics and tie-in books reassign the Blazing Falcon from Ryo to her and she's shown to be more than capable of taking care of herself.
- Big Good: Is promoted to leader after her grandfather's kidnapping.
- Boyish Short Hair: As a mini-figure, she uses the same hair piece as Hikaru.
- Early-Bird Cameo: Hitomi is first seen in the comic 23 as one of Ryo's techs, seven comics before we even get to know her name.
- Faux Action Girl: Hitomi is tried to be put as an Action Girl, and had the series continued that may have happened. But as it is, she appeared in one set with no mech to speak of. In the comics, however, she briefly pilots the Blazing Falcon normally assigned to Ryo.
- Hair Color Dissonance: At first her hair color was a navy blue, later comics have it more darker. As a mini-figure it's black.
- Katanas Are Just Better: Her weapon when she's not piloting a mech is a katana. The set she comes with has her Dual Wielding a pair.
- My Parents Are Dead: Sensei Keiken is her only parental guardian. The fear of losing her as well is why Sensei denied her pilot candidacy for so long.
- The Smurfette Principle: Is the only female in the series.
Robots
Tropes pertaining to all:
- A.I. Is a Crapshoot: Meca One decided robots to be superior to humans and turned the rest of the robots against their creators.
- Animal Motifs: Common ones seem to be named after birds (Fire Vulture, Iron Condor, Sonic Raven) or based off of arachnids (Striking Venom, Arachnoid Stalker, Shadow Crawler, Combat Crawler
- Metallic Motifs: Bronze for low level grunts, Silver for elite minons and Gold for the leader.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: Before the rebellion, they had green eyes. Now they have red eyes.
- Palette Swap: The only physical difference between any of them are their colours.
- Skelebot 9000: All of them have a skeletal appearance, and their symbol uses a Skeleton motif.
- Spider Tank: Several of their battle machines are themed after spiders, though all of them have less than 8 legs.
Meca One
"Humans are weak; the mountain should belong to us!"
The leader of the robots who started the robot rebellion, and intends to kill off all the humans.- Bad Boss: Robots who fail their duties are dismantled, with one instance having Meca One tell one of his soldiers that the defeat wasn't his fault, but then have him dismantled anyway.
- Big Bad: The one who started the rebellion and its current leader.
- Gold Coloured Superiority: His body is gold and black, not to mention that his robots are the most complex to build compared to other sets. Additionally, he is the highest ranked robot in contrast the silver Devastators and the bronze Iron Drones.
- Humongous Mecha: His battle machines, Bridge Walker, Striking Venom and Combat Crawler X2 are among the largest Exo Force model sets, befitting of the leader himself.
- Me's a Crowd: Created duplicates of himself as a safety mechanism after his first defeat. The clones consider themselves to be the "true" Meca One unless the original, Meca One Prime, is present.
- Social Darwinist: He decided robots to be the superior species and that robots should rule.
Devastators
Also comes in green and blue varieties too!
Robots who are the second most intelligent after their leader Meca One. They are capable of strategy.- Animal Motifs: Several of the Battle Machines piloted by Devastator class robots are named after birds such as Fire Vulture, Iron Condor and Sonic Raven.

- Sadist: Wheras Iron Drones simply follow orders, Devastators go out of their way to cause damage to civilian buildings and chase down damaged battle machines soley finish them off.
- Scary Scorpions: Venom Walkers are Devastators with claws, thin spiderly legs and a gun cannon, all of which make them resemble a scorpion.
Iron Drone
Not the sharpest tools in the box, but then again, they don't need to be.
