Lucila is Luz's older sister and the main OC in the fanfic.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Luz and all their friends call her "Luci", which she disliked at first, but becomes fond of it over time.
    • Once they started dating, Hunter calls her, esplendida, which is "gorgeous" in Spanish. He even called her his "goofy Luci" and "sweet princess".
  • Badass Bookworm: She's a quick thinker, creative, and very resourceful. Thanks to Hunter, she even managed to master more advanced glyph spells than her sister.
  • Badass Normal: Just like Luz, Lucila is a normal human with no access to magic and could only use glyphs for defense.
  • Bespectacled Cutie: The fanarts by Deviant artist Jebens1 shows that Lucila is an attractive teenage girl with purple glasses and is a kind, caring person who looks after her friends and family.
    • And Hunter also expresses the sentiment on how he feels about her with her glasses on.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Since they were little, Lucila has been looking out for Luz. She's also this way towards Gus, Willow, King, and eventually, Amity.
  • Brainy Brunette: Has brown hair like her sister and is quite intelligent. According to Skara, Lucila already became one of Hexside's top students.
  • Broken Ace: She's beautiful, kind, a talented musician and songwriter, and very intelligent; having good grades in the Human Realm AND becoming one of the top students at Hexside. Not to mention that she managed to perform glyph spells that were more advanced in a short amount of time. However, she's often had a lot of responsibilities put on her shoulders by not only her mother but her school principal as well. And Camila has to discourage her career choice of becoming a musician in order to fit in with society in Gravesfield, not too similarly to Luz and her love for fantasy.
  • Bully Hunter: Lucila does not tolerate bullying and will defend Luz or any of her friends if they're being picked on.
    • Boscha is the bully she's confronted the most. When she mocked Willow in Understanding Willow, Lucila stuck a plant glyph on her that trapped her in a vine. In Wing It Like Witches, she countered all of Boscha's pranks on Luz and their friends. She fought her off for threatening her and Luz after the latter flashed a light glyph in her eyes by accident in Follies at the Coven Day Parade. Finally in Any Sport in a Storm, she rebuffs Boscha when she says Luz and Amity aren't cute, telling her it's sad that she thinks she can make them miserable when neither cares what she thinks, mocking that she taught Luz well in dealing with spoiled people like her, making Boscha storm off.
    • She also defends Gus from Mattholomule in Through the Looking Glass Ruins.
    • Also in Any Sport in a Storm, she was furious to hear that Professor Homunculus wanted to shut down Willow's flyer derby club just because she dropped his class and was quick to agree to join her team.
Lucila: What?! (In anger) Oh, count me IN! I so wanna shove it in his face that he's making a big mistake and thinks he can get away with this! (Realizes what she said and that they’re staring at her.) Oh, and also because you seem really passionate about this, Willow.
  • Cool Big Sis: Gives helpful advice to Luz and is practically her guardian, other than their mother and Eda.
  • Costume Evolution: As indicated by the second picture above, Lucila changes her outfit near the end of Reaching Out.
  • Cute Bookworm: She's as smart as she is cute.
  • Cute Witch/Hot Witch: Mixed with both. Like Luz, Lucila is a human witch apprentice who uses glyphs as her choice of magic. And she is definitely considered cute, and even beautiful, by the guys she attracted, especially Edric and Hunter, the latter of whom she begins a relationship with later on.
  • Daddy's Girl: In Reaching Out, it is implied by Luz that Lucila was close to their deceased father.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Once in a while, she would make quips and sassy remarks whenever the canon characters' antics go too far. She's almost as much as this trope as Eda herself.
  • Dude Magnet: Her friend Will had feelings for her before he started dating Ivy; Morton developed a crush on her at first sight; and not to mention she was in a love triangle with Edric and Hunter.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Like her younger sister, Lucila Noceda befriended a few of her enemies and turned them into friends.
    • With the Blight Twins. While they started of on friendly terms, with Lucila even taking a liking to Edric, after they tried to steal Amity's dairy and were unsympathetic about it, she was none too happy to see them again in Adventures in the Elements, yelling at them not to call her Luci, and not even wanting to be anywhere near them. But after the two protected her from the Slither Beast and apologized for their actions, Lucila finally forgave them and the three rekindled their friendship.
    • Like Luz, she also disliked Amity for being mean to their friends, and had slight doubts about Luz befriending her in Lost in Language. But she eventually warmed up to Amity, after she saved Luz from a monsterized Otabin and seeing her become more kind-hearted in Understanding Willow. Come Enchanting Grom Fright, Lucila finally accepted Amity as a friend and, after discovering her note, even promised not to tell Luz about the secret crush she had on her.
    • Hunter is the most notable. Like Luz and Amity, the two started off disliking each other. But as time went on, they grew closer, Hunter falling in love with her, until Kikimora drove a wedge between them by framing him for the Owl House raid in Agony of a Witch. But even after Lucila learned the truth, they still weren't on good terms due to the bad things he deliberately did as the Golden Guard. From there, their relationship became complicated. In Yesterday's Lie, Hunter called her and admitted he messed things up between them and she forgave him, since then, their relationship was on better terms, albeit with some issues as seen in Any Sport in a Storm, until the two rekindled their love and became a couple.
  • Foil: To Philip Wittebane/Emperor Belos. Both are humans who become trapped in the Demon Realm with their siblings. But while Philip/Belos despised the Boiling Isles, wanted to eliminate any witch he could, and even murdered his own brother for falling in love with a witch, Lucila eventually found the beauty of the Boiling Isles, befriended some witches, and very much allowed her sister to be together with a witch.
    • To Hunter, as they're both 16, but both don't have access to magic unlike normal witches. Hunter grew up in a toxic environment while Lucila grew up happy, and their personalities are very different, yet they find common ground within each other.
    • Also to Lilith, as both are older than their siblings and like Lilith, Lucila does care about Luz. But would never hurt her just to get something they're both after.
    • And to the Blight Twins. All three are the oldest siblings but Edric and Emira are mischievous, purposely embarrass Amity, and tried to steal her diary; while Lucila is responsible and would never torment Luz, even if she gets on her nerves at times.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Lucila is more responsible and down to earth than Luz. However, there have been cases where the two switched their roles. The most notable is in Adventures in the Elements, where Luz tells her to be nice to the Blight Twins, who she's still mad at, and to give Edric another chance after she rebukes his offer to talk. She even lampshaded this trope.
Luz: You gotta give him a chance, hermana! You're the responsible one, right? You talk things through with people like responsible people would.
Lucila: ... Arggh, I hate it when you're right.
  • The Glasses Gotta Go: Downplayed, as she is already pretty, even with glasses, but in the second part of Watching and Dreaming, Lucila permanently ditches the glasses once she taps into her fullest witch potential from her hidden bile sac.
  • Hormone-Addled Teenager: The fanfic shows that Luci can be like any other teenager, other than being the responsible older sister.
    • She was admiring Nevareth along with Luz.
    • She became conflicted between her feelings for both Hunter and Edric and would become flustered whenever they do something nice for her.
  • Improbable Age: In the Distant Finale, she has already became a famous singer/songwriter by the age of 20.
  • Interspecies Romance: Over time, Lucila, a human girl, began a relationship with Hunter, a grimwalker from the Demon Realm.
  • Letting Her Hair Down: Zig-Zagged. Lucila has mostly had her hair in a ponytail for a majority of the fanfic. In Reaching Out, she lets it down as part of her new look. However, in the last four chapters of the season 2 arc, she has it done in a braid.
  • Morality Pet: She's this to Hunter, Cori, and the Blight Twins.
  • Nice Girl: She's a kind-hearted, caring, and understanding teenager.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: She's the blue oni to Hunter's red oni.
  • Reincarnation Romance: It is later revealed that she is the reincarnation of Evelyn, the witch Caleb fell in love with centuries before the beginning of the story. And she is now in a relationship with his latest clone, Hunter.
  • Spicy Latina: Zigzagged. Lucila is normally a Nice Girl, but she tends to be sassy and feisty with her enemies or people who just get on her nerves. Just ask Boscha, Odalia, or Belos. Hunter is a bit of an exception because he's one of her love interests.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: She looks like an older version of Luz, as they have the same round faces, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, and has their father's lighter skin color. However, she also looks more like their mother due to having the same eye shape and having glasses.
  • Team Mom: She's sweet and protective to not only Luz but to the friends they've made during their time at the Boiling Isles. And she is confirmed to be the oldest of the Hexsquad, so it makes sense that she's so willing to ensure the safety of those around her.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The "Girly-Girl" (gentle and nurturing) to Cori's "Tomboy" (tough-as-nails and impulsive).

     Will and Cori

Will Ferrin and Cori Matthews are Lucila's friends and band mates from the Human Realm.

Tropes that apply to Both

  • Improbable Age: The Distant Finale shows them already having careers despite being 20 years-old. Cori became a drummer for a different band due to Owl Rocks 2.0 getting disbanded. Meanwhile, Will now makes instruments instead of performing.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Will is the blue oni (calm and levelheaded), while Cori is the red oni (temperamental and impatient).
  • True Companions: Despite their different personalities, the two are loyal to Lucila.
  • Vitriolic Best Friends: The two tend to tease and argue with each other once in a while, such as Will deliberately calling Cori by her real name (which she hates) and the latter bring up an embarrassing moment involving the former. Despite this, they still have a good relationship and remained friends no matter what.

Tropes that apply to Will

  • Butt-Monkey: Poor guy can't seem to take a break.
  • Interspecies Romance: Despite finding out that Ivy, a basilisk, was disguised as Lucila the entire time when they were dating, he still wanted to go out with her.
  • Nice Guy: He's friendly and sweet. As evidenced by him agreeing to help save Vee and Ivy from Jacob and still wanting to date Ivy, despite her not being human and that she lied to him.
  • Only Sane Man: Stops Cori from punching Jacob too soon twice.
    • He also attempts and fails to protest against Cori's idea of hot wiring Luci's new car in Thanks to Them part 2.
  • Signature Headgear: Wears a black fedora, which is a symbolization for liberation and assertiveness; saving Ivy and Vee from Jacob Hopkins shows this.
    • Fedoras also can be a fashion trend for musicians. This is fitting since he is in a band and a musician himself.
  • Shout-Out: The insignia on his shirt, according to Jebens1, is the same as Devin from Total Drama.
  • Unlucky Childhood Friend: Sometime before the start of the fanfic, Will developed a crush on Lucila and confessed his feelings for her, but was rejected. Although he was hurt at first, he eventually got over it and remained friends with her.

Tropes that apply to Cori

  • Action Girl: Cori is eager to jump into danger.
  • Berserk Button: Mess with and/or threaten her friends and she will hurt you. Jacob Hopkins learned this the hard way.
    • Thanks to Them: Part 1 and a fan comic by Jebens1 reveals that she hates being called by her real name, Coraline.
  • Fiery Redhead: Has red (or orange) hair and can be quite temperamental at times.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Lucila and Cori didn't meet on good terms. Lucila had tried to stop her from painting an unflattering picture of their teacher on the playground wall and ended up taking the blame. But Cori apologized afterwards and the two became best friends.
  • Hidden Depths: She states in Thanks to Them part 2 that she can hot wire a car.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She often teases and pulls pranks on people. Despite this, she's still a good person and will help her friends no matter what.
  • Letting Her Hair Down: Cori starts wearing her hair out of her ponytail in Thanks to Them Part 1.
  • Let Me at Him!: Wants to punch Jacob Hopkins the minute they meet him, but Will tells her not yet, and even holds her back at one point.
  • Related in the Adaptation: She and the blonde cheerleader are sisters in the fic.
  • Shout-Out: According to Jebens1, her outfit is based off Sissy Blakely from Johnny Test. And she shares her full name with the titular heronie of the Laika stop motion movie.
  • Tomboyand Girly Girl: The "Tomboy" (tough-as-nails and impulsive) to Lucila's "Girly-Girl" (gentle and nurturing).
  • The Trickster/The Prankster: Likes to stir up trouble every now and then, but not in a cruel or malicious way.

     Ivy/Number 4

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ivy_by_jebens1_deumihd_fullview.jpg
(left to right) Her Lucila disguise, her true basilisk form, and her half transformed face by Deviantart user Jebens1.

Ivy is a shapeshifting basilisk that escapes with Vee to the human realm and takes on Lucila's identity.

  • Action Girl: Is ready to attack anyone who threatens her or Vee.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Forms a sisterly bond with Vee and is willing to protect her at all costs, similar to Lucila with Luz.
  • Cute Monster Girl: Like Vee, she is visibly more cuter than other known basilisks.
  • Interspecies Romance: She fell in love with Will and dated him as Lucila. Even after Will discovered her secret, they still remained a couple.
  • Meaningful Name: Like with Vee, her name is derived from the Roman numeral IV, which is 4, her original name.

    Violetta Fortiharpe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/df3zp77_3021a682_0823_4735_b0bf_87d581986db2_6.jpg
Art depiction of Violetta with Melody by Jebens1
Click here to see her as of "King's Tide"

Violetta Fortiharpe is Eda and Raine's childhood friend and the original owner of Lucila's palisman, Melody.

  • Action Girl: She was able to fend off the assigned coven witches in Terra's maze and stand her ground against Emperor Belos himself.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Her friends call her, "V".
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Violetta enchanted Melody to turn into a flute that would control people when she played it. And she also knew the teleportation glyph which she used to escape from being petrified.
  • Can't Hold Her Liquor: In the Distant Finale of Watching and Dreaming: Part 2, she was briefly shown to be drunk on Apple Blood. According to Darius, this isn't the first time it happened, no thanks to Eda.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Zigzagged. She's not as sassy as Eda, but she does have her moments once in a while.
  • Everyone Has Standards: While she loves causing trouble as much as Eda, she does know when to be smart with certain pranks and would try (and fail) to get Eda out of trouble if things go too far.
  • Noodle Incident: In King's Tide, Eda recalled a time when Raine said Violetta's flute playing was off and she retaliated by making them dance for an hour with a music spell she used with her instrument.
    • In For the Future: Part 1, she revealed that she pranked Darius by dumping Griffin saliva on him back in their Hexside years.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite being more rational than Eda, Violetta was a troublemaker just like her.
  • Not Quite Dead: In King's Tide, it is revealed that she managed to escape petrification by using the teleportation glyph and used it again to travel to the Human Realm.
  • Only Sane Woman: Despite the previous trope above, Violetta was more rational and responsible than Eda, knowing when not to do something that would get them in serious trouble.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Aside from Raine and Lilith, Violetta was the blue oni to Eda's red.
  • Tragic Heroine: Violetta joined the Emperor's Coven, but refused to give up Melody, and when Belos tried to force her, she attempted to blast him but was unsuccessful. As a result, Belos had her dragged off to be petrified, leaving Melody orphaned. Thankfully, in King's Tide, it's revealed that Violetta escaped using a teleportation glyph.
  • Troll: Like Eda, she has her fair share of pranks and mischief-making.
