Titular Character

    Krypto the Superdog

Krypto the Superdog

Voiced by: Samuel Vincent Foreign VAs

A white Labrador retriever who is the main protagonist of the show, formerly Superman's pet on Krypton before it was destroyed. He has all of the powers of Superman, though some are heightened due to being a dog, such as his super hearing and sense of smell. Krypto also shares Superman's moral values and feelings, which has been used as a weakness against him in some cases.

  • Action Pet
  • Animal Superheroes: He was Superman's puppy on Krypton after all.
  • Brought Down to Normal: In "Bat Hound For A Day" red Kryptonite took away Krypto's powers, and he was needing to work with Ace in using gadgets to fight crime through the 24 hours it took to undo the red Kryptonite's effects.
  • Character Catchphrase: "It's Superdog time!" (season 1) and "Ruff, ruff and away!"
  • Clark Kenting: Unneeded, as Krypto is a dog. Putting on a cape was all that was needed, although Kevin tried to give him a costume to hide his identity in the first episode, but he just ended up making Krypto look ridiculously gaudy.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Ignatius brings out this side to him.
  • Dogs Are Dumb: Averted, as Krypto is very smart.
  • Eye Beams: He probably gets more milage out of this power than The Man of Steel himself.
  • Flying Brick: Flight, super strength, invulnerability, check.
  • Heroic Dog: A superdog.
  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: It may be due to being an alien dog, but he has no interest in chasing cats like most Earth dogs. In fact, his best friend, Streaky, is a cat.
  • Nice Guy: Like Superman, Krypto is clever and kind.
  • Out-of-Character Moment: In "Ruffled Feathers", Kevin revealing himself to be a massive fanboy of Ace and Batman makes Krypto jealous, causing him to impulsively botch their attempts at catching the Bad News Birds and very nearly getting them all killed. This is despite a handful of other episodes, like "Top Dog" and "My Uncle, the Superhero" establishing Krypto as fairly selfless and indifferent about sharing the glory with his fellow superheroes.
  • Protagonist Title/Character Title
  • Rapid Aging: Happens to him in "Growing Pains" by Mechanikat's aging ray.
  • Red Is Heroic: He wears a red cape and is the main hero of the show.
  • Super Not-Drowning Skills: Like Kryptonians in other media, he can go long periods without needing oxygen, which comes in handy in situations such as draining floodwaters or saving others from drowning. An aversion occurs in "Bat Hound For A Day" while he's powerless after being exposed to red Kryptonite. When Ace is captured by the villains and suspended over a pool of ice-cold water, Krypto tries to help, but accidentally severs the rope and drops Ace in the water. Krypto dives in to try and rescue him, but he can only hold his breath for a few seconds before resurfacing and gasping for air. Thankfully, Ace wasn't in danger and had pulled an escape trick.

Main Characters

    Kevin Whitney

Kevin Whitney

Voiced by: Alberto Ghisi Foreign VAs

Kevin is the young boy who Krypto lives with in the series, with Superman's permission. Kevin enjoys Krypto's company greatly, and is able to communicate with him and the other animals in the series thanks to a universal translator device. Kevin has a bratty cousin named Bailey who finds out Krypto's secret, but fortunately, he's such a notorious liar that no adult believes him.

  • A Boy and His X: Kevin and his loyal pet dog Krypto, with Superman's permission in the pilot episode.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Is genuinely concerned about his little sister Melanie's safety, especially in "Diaper Madness".
  • Canon Foreigner: Krypto was always a pet of Superman or his family.
  • Kid with the Leash: Superman appoints him Krypto's caretaker.
  • Secret-Keeper: He is initially the only one who is aware of Krypto's double life as "Superdog".
  • Ship Tease: With Andrea, his next-door neighbor

    Melanie Whitney

Melanie Whitney

Voiced by: Tabitha St. Germain Foreign VAs

Kevin's baby sister, who refers to Krypto as "Kippo".

  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Averted, she just does things that get Kevin into trouble due to being a baby who doesn't know any better.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Happens to her in "Big Sister", when she accidentally touches the aliens' spaceship.
  • Cassandra Truth: Melanie is also aware that Krypto is Superdog, but because she's only a baby, no adults take her seriously.
  • Cheerful Child: She is always cheery.
  • Friend to All Living Things: She admires Krypto as a Superdog. In "Melanie's Monkey", she befriends a lost little monkey who came to Kevin's house.

    Andrea Sussman

Andrea

Voiced by: Tabitha St. Germain Foreign VAs

Kevin's next door neighbor, and the owner of Streaky. Andrea enjoys making Streaky play dress-up, but was unaware of his (or Krypto's) superheroic identity until later in the series, when she accidentally stumbles upon Krypto's spaceship. In "Iguanikah", it is revealed that Andrea is Jewish. She loves to play and dress up Streaky, and she treats him like a baby. Andrea treating Streaky like a baby is similar to the Tom and Jerry cartoon "Baby Puss".

    Streaky the Supercat

Streaky

Voiced by: Brian Drummond Foreign VAs

An orange cat with a yellow streak along his back who lives next door to Krypto and Kevin's family. In episode 6, "The Streaky Story", Streaky gained superpowers by a duplicating ray that was aimed at Krypto, but reflected off him and accidentally hit Streaky instead. Streaky later found that he had superpowers similar to Krypto's. But his superpower are weaker than Krypto's. Streaky shares his canine counterpart's weakness to Kryptonite. Streaky belongs to a girl named Andrea (unlike the comics in which he was Supergirl's pet cat). Unlike Krypto, Streaky is less serious about his superhero activities, and sometimes needs prodding to perform heroic deeds, but usually is dependable. He also has a nephew named Squeaky who is the leader of the Supercat Fan Club. Streaky often refers to Krypto as "K-Dog".

  • Action Pet
  • Big Eater: Can't stop thinking about the fish and other seafood.
  • Blue Is Heroic: He wears a blue cape to show that he is one of the heroes of the story.
  • Butt-Monkey: He tends to have a lot of comedic incidents happening to him.
  • Cats Are Mean: Averted. On the whole you couldn't ask for a friendlier guy, and his less-than-savory moments are few and far in between.
  • Cats Are Snarkers: Has a lot of witty lines here and there.
  • The Chew Toy: Extremely accident-prone and the most abused character in the series, bar none. Though he gets his moments of triumph.
  • Clark Kenting: Like Krypto, his "secret identity" simply involves taking off his cape.
  • Cowardly Lion: He's got a bit of a cowardly streak; he even describes himself as a "fraidy cat." But he always comes through in a pinch.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Can be rather sarcastic and witty a lot.
  • Dreadful Musician: His singing is so bad that Mechanikat thinks that it's an "evil superpower."
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite his flaws, Streaky is always loyal to Krypto, Kevin and Andrea.
  • Power Incontinence: Streaky gains invisibility powers, but as he uses them they become harder to control. It reaches a point where only his face can be seen only if he concentrates really hard.

    Ace the Bathound

Ace the Bathound

Voiced by: Scott McNeil Foreign VAs

  • Action Pet: Being that he is the pet, err, partner of Batman, and a superhero all on his own.
  • Badass Normal: He's originally mocked by the Dog Stars for having no powers, but they take it back when the see how skilled a detective he is.
  • Berserk Button: Batman is not his "owner", so stop saying it.
  • The Comically Serious: Always cool, collected, and completely serious — even in the face of the most ridiculous situations, unlike his friends and foes. Ace isn't typically one to crack a joke, let alone a smile. Becomes the central focus of the plot in "Funny Business", where coming into contact with Bud and Lou's giggle bubbles temporarily grants him a very detrimental sense of humor... to his horror.
Ace: The mighty Bat Hound... HA HA HA- [gasps] Did I just... laugh?
Krypto: What have they done to you?!
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Like Batman, he is dark and intimidating, with Kevin being frightened of him when he first sees him, but is a Heroic Dog through and through.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Just like Batman, he has a razor-sharp wit.
  • Dogs Are Dumb: Averted, seeing as he's the dog of the world's greatest detective.
  • Freudian Slip: He once accidentally referred to Batman as his "master" before correcting himself to "partner".
  • Insistent Terminology: Ace prefers to be called Batman's partner, not "pet".
  • Not So Above It All: At the end of "Bat Hound Meets the Dog Stars", he joins in on the team's victory howl.
  • The Stoic: Another similarity to his "owner".
  • Uncatty Resemblance: He takes a lot of cues from his "owner".

    Squeaky

Squeaky

Streaky's nephew and founder of the Supercat Fan Club

The Dog Star Patrol

    In General
A superpowered group of canines who each possess a unique superpower, and fight crime across the galaxy. Krypto joined the Dog Stars by helping the group out on a mission. Ace the Bathound and Streaky the Supercat helped them out on different occasions. The group is based on DC Comics' Space Canine Patrol Agents and Legion of Super-Heroes. Curiously, they are never seen altogether as one or two members are always absent in each episode. The members of the Dog Star Patrol include:
  • Animal Superheroes
  • Expy: Of both the Legion of Super-Heroes and the Space Canine Patrol Agency. Their names and characters all come from The Space Canine Patrol Agents, but their function as single powered galactic protects resembles that of the Legion.
  • Heroic Dog: The whole team are this.
  • Super Team: They're a team of Superpowered canines that protect the galaxy from any threat.

Voiced by: Ellen Kennedy Foreign VAs

  • Big Good: She is the leader of the Dog Star Patrol.
  • Canon Foreigner: The Space Canine Patrol Agency in the comics don't appear to have a leader.
  • Expy: Presumably of Saturn Girl, the female telepathic/telekinetic-powered leader of the Legion of Super-Heroes.
  • Mission Control: She's the only member who isn't a field agent.
  • Not So Above It All: In the comic book story featuring an intergalactic mailman, she constantly berates the other dog stars for barking at the mere mention of the mailman. In the end, she can't help but bark as well.
  • Psychic Powers
  • Purple Is Powerful: She's purple and is the leader of the Dog Star Patrol.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The Tomboy to Mammoth Mutt's Girly Girl

  • Expy: Of Bouncing Boy, as both possess the same power of expansion.
  • Heavy Voice: Mammoth Mutt has one whenever she inflates herself.

  • Pink Heroine: She's a natural heroic dog in pink.
  • Pink Means Feminine: She's a chihuahua who is pretty in pink.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: She's a sweethearted dog, but when you mess with her and her size; she'll get really big.

    Hot Dog

Hot Dog

Voiced by: Trevor Devall Foreign VAs

A Dachshund who can raise his body heat to dangerously high temperatures to burn his enemies.

  • Butt-Monkey: He can suffer a lot of comedic incidents himself.
  • Distressed Dude: "Bat Hound Meets the Dog Stars" has Hot Dog kidnapped by Snooky, then his heat energy drained before Krypto, Ace and Bull Dog save him.
  • Expy: Of Heatblast due to similar superpowers.
  • Fiery Redhead: A red dachshund with a fiery temper.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: It doesn't take a whole lot to make Hot Dog angry. In "Bones of Contention" his near-constant state of anger makes the titular "bones" that cause the other Dog Stars to be angry unable to affect HIM. He then has, for the rest of the episode, to play the hero and get everyone to fight the effects by destroying the bones.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: As shown in the episode "Bones Of Contention."
  • Mana Drain: "Bat Hound Meets the Dog Stars" has him kidnapped, then get his heat power energy drained by Snooky before being saved by Krypto, Ace and Bull Dog.     Drooly

Drooly

  • Ascended Fanboy: "The New Recruit" ends with Drooly being made into an honorary backup member of the Dog Star Patrol for his heroics, though he never appears again after this episode.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He's a big, goofy sheepdog with a Simpleton Voice who drools all the time, yet he single-handedly defeated an army of catbots.

  • One-Shot Character: Despite officially joining the Dog Stars in his debut episode, he is never seen again afterward.
  • The Sixth Ranger: He joins the Star Dog Patrol in his first appearance.
  • What Kind of Lame Power Is Heart, Anyway?: Though the rest of the Dog Stars are nice enough to at least humor his audition for the team, Hot Dog and Snooky Wookums don't hesitate to snark about his "super talent" being the ability to drool a ton. However...
    • Heart Is an Awesome Power: He saves the Dog Stars using his drool, which happened to be handy at shutting down Snooky's robot minions and stalling the ship's engine so the team could return from being launched into space.
