    Kii Kagerou, Tsubanari

Kii Kagerou, Tsubanari

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kii_kagerou.jpg

Kii Kagerou is the first Armed Yami master Kenichi encounters, during a field trip with Shigure. Alternates between utterly terrifying and hilariously maladjusted at first, later replacing the "utterly terrifying" with "creepy but repentant."

  • Almighty Janitor: By far the strongest Armed Yami master that isn't in the Eight Executioner Blades, and apparently stronger than most of them... But wasn't given membership, likely due how unhinged and crazy he is.
  • Artistic License – Martial Arts: Drawing a sword of that size from the back would be extremely difficult and nigh impossible to do as a standard action alone, never mind using super-fast iaido.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Kagerou hands out pamphlets to instruct others in how to avoid being accidentally killed by him, thinks every woman he meets is some undefined previous acquaintance known as "Mi-chan" (later revealed as Mikumo Kushinada, of all people), and is more prone to Art Shift than perhaps any other minor character in the series. He has also killed more people than he can remember.
  • Call to Agriculture: After Shigure gives him one of "[her] father's masterpieces" (a mattock) in exchange for a promise to never kill another person and his aid in fighting against Kushinada and three other Armed Yami masters, he starts cultivating the fields around his hermitage.
  • Confusion Fu: His secret technique gives the impression that his arm and his sword are not only multiplying but also twisting and bending like snakes.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Probably the most dramatic example in the series. In his first appearance he is a cheerfully unhinged sociopath who considers cutting down a child to test his new sword. By the climax of the series he has sworn to never kill again, and joins the Katsujinken masters in their face-off with the One Shadow Nine Fist.
  • Iaijutsu Practitioner: And how! His draw is characterized in-series as "supersonic," and he can draw and resheathe multiple times faster than the untrained eye (or rather, Kenichi's eye, which is not entirely untrained by that point) can see.
  • Improbable Weapon User: He eventually sets for using a hoe as his weapon of choice... to devastating effect.
  • Looks Like Cesare: Unusually pale skin, scraggly hair, and wears all black. He seems to miss out on the sunken eyes mostly because his face is so flat. If anything it makes him even more unnerving.
  • Martial Arts and Crafts: Turns out unearthly iaijutsu skill translates well into ploughing fields. Who knew?
  • Odd Friendship: Somehow, he's close enough to Mikumo Kushinada to have nicknamed her "Mi-chan" and mistake all women he meets for her.
  • Redemption Equals Death: Redemption may be too strong a word, but ultimately he proved willing to sacrifice himself to give the Katsujinken masters a chance against the One Shadow Nine Fist.

    Bantou Master
A nameless, huge man with dark skin, dreadlocks and a huge Chinese curved sword as his weapon of choice. A prideful but barbaric individual who holds his opponents in disdain.
  • Bling-Bling-BANG!: The hilt of his Bantou is golden and encrusted in gemstones.
  • The Brute: Truly gigantic in size, as well as ruthless in methods and devoid of any sense of honor or morality.
  • Hate Sink: He's characterized as extremely unpleasant and unlikeable.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After spending the first appearence belittling Frejya's grandfather he's soundly defeated by the old jojutsu master once the latter decides to stop playing senile. In his second appearence he tries to execute a defenseless Agaard, only to be punched in the next month by a revenant Apachai.
  • Kick Them While They're Down: Tries to murder a wounded Agaard out of spite.
  • No Name Given: Like most of the armed division members, he's not given a name.
  • Sinister Scimitar: Wields an humongous curved sword with a forked end. He's strong enough with it to harm Kenichi through the chainmail and break open the roof of a metal truck.
  • Sore Loser: He immediatly breaks down the pc from which Agaard is watching when his disciple Andaka is beaten by Kenichi.

    Ortal Sin
A fighter from India who has mastered the Jamadkhar Katar with the Kalaripayattu style.

  • Blade Below the Shoulder: Wields a pair of Katar, namely the Jamadkhar variant, which can open up like scissors.
  • Graceful Loser: Accepts his defeat at the hands of Freija, Thor, Takeda and Kisara without throwing a fuss, even complimenting his opponents.
  • Informed Ability: Despite being a Jamadkhar, we never see him splitting his Katars as implied.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: In his first appearence rather than chasing and killing Ethan he's content with letting him leave with the woman he was trying to rescue, since he already killed his targets anyway.

    The Spears of Kurokonoe
A trio of powerful spear experts working for Yomi. The Spear of the West is a knight wielding a lance from horseback, the Spear of the East is a samurai in full regalia using a simple yari, while the Spear of the Center is the leader and uses a Chinese tasseled spear with incredible precision.

  • Crazy-Prepared: The Spear of the East actually knows a technique to counter Jujutsu grabs and force Akisame to let him go. Unfortunately for him, it's not enough.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: They all give some measure of trouble to the Ryozanpaku Masters, but are defeated with ease nonetheless.
  • Implausible Fencing Powers: In a series full of insane feats, the Spear of the Center untying knots of thin string with the tip of a long spear without cutting them is really something.
  • Jousting Lance: The Spear of the West doesn't use a martial art weapon but a massive steel lance he uses from horseback to charge at Shigure. They even end up improvising a jousting duel (with Shigure using a custom bamboo yari and a motorbyke).
  • No Name Given: They are only known by their epithets.
  • Noble Demon: The Spear of the West: as Shigure noticed, he never once tried to wound Shigure's pet mouse, and when his weapon and helmet are destroyed he concedes defeat and even let Shigure ride on his horse as he escorts her out of the base.
  • Samurai: The Spear of the East wears a full Japanese armor, complete with a mustachioed mask.
  • Villain Respect: The Spear of the Center is impressed by Agaard's technical skill, despite looking down on unarmed martial arts.

    Izayoi the Mad Sword
A buxom swordswoman with a nodachi, she becomes violently aggressive in combat.

  • Ax-Crazy: When in combat she becomes insane with bloodlust.
  • BFS: Her nodachi is slender but much longer than a standard uchigatana.
  • Breast Plate: Her torso armor really cling to her massive breasts.
  • Defeat by Modesty: Ma Kensei gradually removes her underwear and armor as they fight, though she falls for another reason.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Implied that her bloodlust is a sort of "mental armor" she developed for her lifestyle. Ma Kensei defeats her by "removing the armor around her heart".
  • Lightning Bruiser: She's able to move almost as fast as Ma Kensei in his pervert mode.

    Seiji Ishida
A member of Yami disguised as a politician, Seiji Ishida is part of a sect of warrior monks and fights with sharpened Dokko.

  • Game Face: Normally has an unassuming face, but he suddenly changes to a furious, screaming face similar to a Nioh statue when he fights.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Uses sharpened Dokko (a Buddhist prayer tool derived by the Vajra) as his weapon of choice, wielding two of them as dual-bladed knives.
  • The Mole: An agent of Yami well hidden within the Japanese government.
  • Warrior Monk: He belongs to an order of Buddhist warrior monks who sided with Yami.

    Sherman Camus
A weapon master from France, he's adept at using dual Francisca in combat.

  • Dual Wielding: Uses his Franciscas in pairs.
  • Logical Weakness: As Akisame noted, he's left vulnerable after throwing his axes, especially when a Master can easily predict the trajectory of the blades.
  • Smug Snake: He's rather arrogant and confident as he takes on Akisame.

    Cedric Casken
A weapon master from England, he has mastered the Scramsaex and wields two of them in battle.

  • BFS: One of his saex is blatantly oversized, resembling more a longsword.
  • Cool Mask: Wears a peculiar mask covering most of his face.
  • Dual Wielding: He wields a long scramsaex in one hand and a shorter one in the other.
  • Machete Mayhem: Wields the scramsaex, a massive knife used by the Saxons in the past.
  • Master Swordsman: He's so skilled even Sakaki has to admit the saex feels almost as part of Cedric's body.

    Chin Sogaku
A weapon master from China, a warrior monk wielding a Monk's Spade which he uses to dig the tombs of his opponents.

  • Ax-Crazy: We're talking about a man who literally digs graves for his opponents before the fight.
  • Gonk: He's bald, has odd facial traits and lacks several teeth.
  • Evil Old Folks: He's rather old and a psychopath.
  • Shovel Strike: He wields a Monk's Spade, which, as he helpfully illustrates, was originally used by monks to bury untended corpses, and he uses the spade part to dig open the graves for the Shinpaku alliance.
  • Warrior Monk: He's dressed as a monk, bald and wields a weapon used by wandering monks in the past.

Hachiou Danzaiba (Eight Imperial Executioner Blades)

    Ouganosuke Yogi, Second Hades

Ouganosuke Yogi, Second Hades

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/haicho_ganosuke_5748.png

Ouganosuke Yogi is the head of the Hachiou Executioner Blade and by extension the leader of Yami's Armed Division.

    Seitaro Raigou the Immovable Warrior

Seitaro Raigou

The first member of Hachiou Executioner Blade to appear in the story, he's the kodachi user of the division.

  • Bait-and-Switch Boss: He appears to be Hayato's opponent after luring him to a distant island... only to reveal that he's the bait for the real opponent: Ganosuke.
  • Boring, but Practical: His weapon of choice is a kodachi, a traditional shortsword which lacks reach but is perfect to right up close.Worth mentioning that, of the weapon masters, he's the one who seems to take the less damage.
  • Master Swordsman: One expert in using the kodachi, a short blade so light it almost feels as if fighting unarmed.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: He's extremely serious and dedicated to his job.
  • Pet the Dog: Downplayed, but Hayato notices that he brought with him his unconscious companion when fleeing from Hayato, though he says he can't understand if it's genuine concern or simply doesn't want to leave a potential source of info behind.
  • The Stoic: Unlike the other armed Masters, Seitaro is always calm and serious.

Rin Tachibana of a Hundred Martial Arts

Rin Tachibana

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/haicho_lance_4482.png

Rin Tachibana is a member of the Hachiou Executioner Blade of Yami, the older half brother of Kiyoi Kidou, and the "disciple brother" of Shigure Kosaka.

  • Black Knight: A Samurai version. Despite being a master of the Kōsaka Style, Rin has also been trained in the way of the samurai. As a samurai, he is skilled in the use of swords and other samurai-like weapons as he carries a quiver of swords and spears with him.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: Rin has a great amount of strength, as he was able to break the weapon used by Shigure and to smash his way through a wall during his fight with Shigure. And, despite wearing a large suit of samurai armor, he has enough mobility to match Shigure move-for-move, and is more than fast enough to catch her off guard as well.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: While a member of the Hachiō Executioner Blade, Rin has shown to have genuane love towards his younger half sister, Kiyoi Kidou, whom he worries over and helps provide financially for her and wishes for her to be safe by even telling her to leave Japan for her safety.
  • Multi-Melee Master: He mostly fights with yari of different kinds, but his arsenal extends to axes, kanabo, scythes, hammers and restraining weapons such as sasumata. Invoked by his nom de guerre.
  • Walking Armory: He carries a massive amount of weapons on his person, kinda like Benkei.

Michael Schtilvay the Martial King who dances with Death

Michael Schtilvay

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/haicho_scyth_1228.png

The scythe wielding member of the Hachiou Executioner Blade of Yami.

  • Ax-Crazy: He's way too eager to murder people.
  • Hate Sink: Between his attitude and bloodlust he's this even more than the other armed division members.
  • Named After Someone Famous: According to the Kenichi's Wiki, his name should read as "Mihai Știrbey", a nod to prince Barbu Știrbey and to the Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu, who wrote a poem on the death of Prince Știrbey. Even his disciple Sigmarinen is named after a royal romanian family.
  • Overly Long Name: His Red Baron moniker is rather long compared to the other monikers of the Hachio Executioner Blade.
  • Sinister Scythe: Seems to use one just for the Grim Reaper comparisons. It was forged by Shigure's father and features a spearhead on the top and a crescent-shaped blade in the back.
  • Slasher Smile: Tends to give creepy grins with sharp teeth showing.
  • The Worf Effect: He gets the most hype of all the Hachio. Hongo Akira sends him flying with embarassing ease.
  • Would Hit a Girl: More like "would murder a girl". A scene where he's been partnered up with Akira Hongou has them nearly coming to blows over sparing the lives of a woman and her young child.

    Mildred Lawrence the Double-eyed Archer

Mildred Lawrence

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/haicho_bow_1718.png

The bow wielding member of the Hachiou Executioner Blade of Yami.

  • Amazonian Beauty: The most muscular female in the series and perhaps the least clothed as well.
  • Defeat by Modesty: From Kensei Ma. Downplayed in that she's still willing to fight in the nude.
  • Defiant to the End: Nearly naked and with her bow destroyed, she still tries to fight by tossing her arrows at her opponents like darts.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Has double pupils in each eye. This is exactly as creepy as it sounds and somehow allows her to shoot better.
  • Glass Cannon: Can take down police choppers with her arrows. Can't to much if taken in melee.
  • Rain of Arrows: Her technique allows her to cover a huge area in arrows, which she can pluck out of the ground and shot again.
  • Stripperiffic: She goes into combat with not much more than a bra and thong.

Edeltraft Vonschira the Performer of Armistice

Edeltraft Vonschira

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/haicho_sword_2314.png

The sword wielding member of the Hachiou Executioner Blade of Yami.

  • Cool Sword: Wields an executioner sword, as in an extremely long straight sword with a rounded tip.
  • Ice-Cream Koan: His way of speaking. To the absolute befuddlement of everyone he speaks to.
  • Master Swordsman: Being a Master-class warrior, his skill with the blade is extremely high.
  • Named After Someone Famous: Specifically and appropriately after the German poet and artist Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller.
  • The Stoic: His facial expression never changes...until Sougetsu struck him across the face.
  • Warrior Poet: Parodied, he speaks in nothing but elaborated poetry... that is incomprehensible to anyone else.
  • You Fight Like a Cow: When he engages Akisame in combat the two exchange cryptic poetic verses to each other. At first it seems like Akisame understands him...but then reveals that he can't and was just talking nonsense.

    Marmaduke Brown the Armored Emperor

Marmaduke Brown

A fully-armored member of the armed division equipped like a knight. Her weapon is an humongous axe.

  • Anachronism Stew: Despite the modern times, she still walks around in full plate armor.
  • Black Knight: Unlike Rin, she's an obvious western example.
  • Full-Frontal Assault: Keeps fighting even with her armor removed from collarbone to mid-thighs.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Marmaduke is a typical male name in Irish.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Despite the gigantic armor she can move at blinding speed.
  • Samus Is a Girl: During the final clash, Ma Kensei demolish Marmaduke's armor, revealing that she's really a woman.

Raki Houshinano the Charming Martial Arts Princess

Raki Houshinano

A female member of the armed division using a naginata.

  • Defeat by Modesty: Ma Kensei strips her and ties her up using her clothes and her broken weapon.
  • Naginatas Are Feminine: She has a very feminine traditional look and wields a naginata with superbe skill.
