    Takeru Tenkuji/Kamen Rider Ghost

Takeru Tenkuji/Kamen Rider Ghost

Portrayed by: Shun Nishime (live), Seiji Takaiwa (suit)

Characters in Kamen Rider Ghost

The son of a famous ghost hunter Ryu Tenkuji and the sole heir to the Tenkuji Temple. Takeru is a bright, carefree, and reckless youth who holds true to his beliefs.

Ten years after the death of his father, on his eighteenth birthday, he received a package sent by his father not long before his untimely death. Inside was a Ghost Eyecon, a mysterious, eye-shaped artifact. This lead to an attack by Gamma - monsters from another dimension - on the temple. Takeru is killed by the Gamma while protecting his friend, Akari and Onari, his caretaker. Soon after, he was resurrected as a ghost by Sennin and given the Ghost Driver, which allowed him to use the Eyecon to fight as Kamen Rider Ghost. However, it wasn't a perfect resurrection - Takeru only has ninety-nine days before he disappears permanently. In order to revive himself, he must collect the fifteen Ghost Eyecons within ninety-nine days.

Tropes that apply to him in general

  • Agent Mulder: Plays this role opposite Akari, though he's more downplayed compared to Onari: Onari believes in all things supernatural, Akari believes only in science, and Takeru believes whatever he sees with his own eyes. That sort of dies down after, well, he does.
  • Alliterative Name: Takeru Tenkuji.
  • All-Loving Hero: Takeru is one of the few Riders who uses his powers to protect the innocent people as well as to show any form of compassion towards his enemies.
  • Angelic Transformation: Takeru's final form Mugen Damashii is based off this making Ghost look like an angelic savior.
  • Ascend to a Higher Plane of Existence: Inverted, according to the Great Eye, Takeru has already become an existence surpassing that of a human being, approaching that of the Great Eye. Takeru told the Great Eye that he prefers to be an ordinary human, which the Great Eye granted.
  • Babies Ever After: Ayumu, who appears in #50, is strongly suggested to be Takeru's future son. According to the tie-in novel, he is Takeru's son with Chloe.
  • Badass Adorable: Loud and childish, as proven with him jumping up and down while yelling 'I did it! I did it!' after defeating the first Gamma. The badass part starts with him coming back from dead to sort things out with his killers the hard way.
  • Bash Brothers: With Makoto, after the latter's Heel–Face Turn.
  • Batman Can Breathe in Space: Going into space is no problem for him, as being a ghost he doesn't actually need to breathe.
  • Begin with a Finisher: He gradually develops this fighting style with his final form, which starts with three different finishers and adds eight more over the course of the remaining episodes, with each finisher employing a different form of his Morph Weapon.
  • Berserk Button: Considering the fact that he died, it is not surprising that he gets pissed off if anyone devalues human lives, especially that of their own.
    • Don't mock his friends.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Takeru is a kind and gentle person, doesn't mean you should piss him off.
  • Break the Cutie: #5. A tad literal at some points.
  • Catchphrase: "My life will burn bright!"
    • He has another one when using Grateful Damashii:
"The soul will always live on!"
    • And a third one when using Mugen Damashii:
    "Human potential is infinite!"
  • Character Tic: When he transforms, he relaxes his arms and lets them go limp as a Parka Ghost puts itself on him, as though letting it envelop him.
  • Cherry Blossoms: Has a coat with a sakura pattern design, and is associated with cherry blossom imagery in promotional materials; symbolic of his dying young and in battle.
  • Childhood Friends: With Akari and Makoto.
  • Classical Anti-Hero: Started off as a timid and inexperience fighter. He later grows out of this once he resolves to become stronger.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: Plays a similar role as Haruto Soma for being a Mystical Rider who helps out the Victim of the Week by entering their mental world and healing them before they succumb to the monster's manipulations. However, unlike Haruto who is already an Experienced Protagonist at the start of his story, Takeru takes some time to develop his skills as a Kamen Rider.
  • Cool Bike: Ghost's personal bike, the Machine Ghostriker. Normally a regular motorcycle, it transforms along with him to form a motorcycle with a unicorn head. It can then combine with Ghost's pirate ship to form the Iguana Ghostriker.
  • Cool Ship: The Captain Ghost.
  • Cooldown Hug: He can remove the Gamma's influence over people by hugging them.
  • Deader than Dead: Takeru's fate should he go over his 99 day time limit, at least if the Sage is to be believed. Apparently, even ghosts cannot exist in the state Takeru is in for any longer than that, and will permanently die when time's up. Or if his Ore Eyecon gets destroyed.
  • Death by Origin Story: At the very start of the series, he is slain by Gamma. But then gets an another take on life, with the benefit of becoming a Kamen Rider.
  • Determinator: One of Takeru's defining traits is his belief in himself, something his father is said to have inspired within him, and it shows. When Specter caused him to doubt himself, he became noticeably weaker, however once his resolve sharpened again, he fought the more experienced Rider to a near victory.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After the many, many things he went through, he finally got his wish to be revived as an ordinary human being.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Thrice in Kamen Rider Drive. He first appears in Suprise Future where he briefly helps the Special Crimes Unit by defeating one of the numberless Roidmudes. He also appears in the last two episodes of the series: first by getting Shinnosuke out of the way from vengeance-seeking Roidmude ghosts, then by observing Shinnosuke complete his final case.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: In his civilian form, Takeru often wears a hoodie-robe mix, which have a colorful pastern on its right side. As Ghost, it's mostly symmetrical, with the exception of a little ghost tail at the back of the jacket.
  • Fatal Flaw: So to speak. Even in death, he continues to put others priorities before himself and even gives up his chance at reviving for Kanon's. Akari eventually calls him out on it.
  • Ghost Memory: After #29, he developed the power to see others memories.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: To Kamen Rider Drive for the last two episodes.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: In the novel, he willingly sacrifices half his lifespan to save Chloe and their unborn son, saving them but ensuring he will die relatively young.
  • Hope Bringer: His main job is to bring victims out of dispair and prevent them from dying.
  • I Hate Past Me: Downplayed. He grew visibly annoyed by how spoiled his younger self was. After giving himself a prep talk that he has to save Akari and not just relying on others, his younger self then picks his resolve to save her.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: When told by The Great Eye that he has become a existence surpassing that of a human being and thus, no longer need to be revived, Takeru replies that he prefers to be a normal human that can enjoy the simple joys of life with his loved ones.
  • Intangible Man: As a ghost, he has this power. Comes in handy when investigating things.
  • Invisibility: As a ghost, he can become invisible whenever he chooses. Though he can sometimes vanish against his will if his emotions get the better of him.
  • The Kirk
  • Leitmotif: All his themes involve oriental instruments and mystical chorals, befitting a potential monk-in-training.
  • Living on Borrowed Time: Only has 99 days to complete his mission or he'll die again.
  • Meaningful Name: His family name contains the characters for "sky/heaven" and "temple."
  • Nice Guy: Takeru is a kind and gentle person, who's always willing to help those in needs. That being said, don't piss him off.
  • Physical God: While perhaps a bit lesser in scope of power compare to Overlord Kouta, by the end of the series Takeru is still one of the most powerful being in the series. He is the only one capable of permanently killing the Gammaizer and actually defeated The Great Eyezer, who is the combination of two extremely powerful Physical God entities, single-handedly. The Great Eye itself explained that Takeru has already evolved into an immortal entity infused with countless souls similar to The Great Eye. If not for the fact that Takeru wishes to be a normal human again, there's no denying that he could eventually develop into an entity as powerful as, if not more powerful, than The Great Eye.
  • Psychopomp: He acts as one in one of the final Drive episodes, meeting a nearly-dead Shinnosuke in some sort of limbo realm. Though he doesn't guide Shinnosuke to the afterlife, he instead directs him away from it and fights off the Roidmude souls trying to drag him there.
  • The Redeemer: Takeru really rarely gets angry and prioritizes others before himself. This compassion eventually brings Makoto and Alain to his side. By the end of the series this trait becomes a full The Empath power and helps the entire Gamma race to go through Heel–Face Turn.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The passionate red to Makoto's stoic blue.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: He has 99 days to live and complete his mission before he'll die for good. He runs out by #12, but gets another 99 that span the remaining episodes. By the end of the show, he doesn't actually have a time limit anymore, but he doesn't know that until the last episode.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: In Kamen Rider Ghost × Kamen Rider Drive: Super War Genesis, he wants to prevent his father from dying on the day he's supposed to. His efforts were in vain as his father gave his life to protect his younger self. While the circumstances of his death had changed, his father's death could not be avoided.
  • You Killed My Father: How Takeru reacts after finding out that Adel killed his father.

  • Animal Motifs: He's another bug themed Rider, though this time, Ghost's Ore Damashii is based around fireflies, similar to Faiz. Rather coincidentally, both make use of Tron Lines in their transformations.
  • Badass Longcoat: Ryoma Damashi is long enough to qualify.
  • Chest Insignia: For a majority of Ghost's forms, he has his version of the Ghost Eyecon symbol right in the middle of his chest. Grateful is the one exception, where he has Musashi's emblem in place of an eye.

    • Musashi: Slashes enemies with the Gan Gun Saber in Nitoryu Mode.

  • Fantasy Metals: His suit in Grateful Soul form is composed of 'Quantum Metal', the same as Necrom's.
  • Finishing Move: Like the finishers of many other Riders with specific name before him, Ghostnote  has Omega Drives. Each form of the Gan Gun Saber also has its own Omega [X] attack, activated by scanning the eye on the Gan Gun Saber with the Ghost Driver. With Ghost's future forms, they give a special prefix (Toucon for Toucon Boost, and Inochi for Mugen)
    • Ore
      • Omega Drive: Ghost gathers up spiritual energy into his foot and performs a Rider Kick.
      • Omega Break: Ghost uses the Gan Gun Saber in Blade Mode.
      • Omega Stream: With the Gan Gun Saber in Naginata Mode, Ghost channels energy into his weapon and performs a spinning slash with it.
    • Musashi
      • Omega Slash: With the Gan Gun Saber in Nitoryu Mode, Ghost channels spiritual energy into his swords and performs an overhead chopping motion with both blades.
      • Omega Slash + Omega Drive: After hitting the target with the initial Omega Slash, the target then gets slashed further by swords made of energy.
    • Edison
      • Omega Drive: Ghost gathers up electricity into his foot and performs a Rider Kick.
      • Omega Shoot: With the Gan Gun Saber in Gun Mode, Ghost gathers all of his stored electricity in front of his weapon and fires it off as a large electric projectile.
    • Robin
      • Omega Strike: With the Gan Gun Saber in Arrow Mode, Ghost draws back on his bow while creating a rune in front of his weapon to protect himself. When a phone ring comes out, he fires off a large arrow projectile.
      • Omega Strike + Omega Drive: Ghost creates multiple clones of himself to shoot multiple targets at the same time.
    • Newton
      • Omega Drive: A utility Omega Drive that supercharges Newton's own ability, which allows Ghost to attract objects with his left hand and repel objects with his right.
    • Billy the Kid
      • Omega Impact: With the Gan Gun Saber in Rifle Mode, Ghost locks onto the target with his weapon and fires an energy blast from both of its barrels.
    • Benkei
      • Omega Bomber: With the Gan Gun Saber in Hammer Mode, Ghost channels energy into his weapon and smashes the ground with it, summoning an array of spiritual energy weapons which then fly forwards the opponent.
      • Omega Bomber + Omega Drive: Ghost channels energy into his Gan Gun Saber and starts spinning it until he generates a whirlwind to lift him into air to deliver a devastating hammer smash.
    • Toucon Boost
      • Omega Drive: Ghost gathers up spiritual energy into his foot and performs a Rider Kick. Alternatively, he can channel the energy to the Sunglasseslasher in Sword Mode to deliver a fiery sword slash.
      • Omega Shine (Robin): After inserting the Ore and Robin Eyecons into the Sunglasseslasher while in Sword Mode, Ghost draws back on a large Energy Bow before firing a large flaming arrow-shaped projectile from his weapon.
      • Omega Shine (Newton & Himiko) + Omega Drive: After inserting the Newton and Himiko Eyecons into the Sunglasseslasher while in Sword Mode, Ghost swings his weapon around to create a series of repulsion waves. Upon activating the Omega Drive, Ghost is able to convert the repulsion waves into an energized Sword Beam.
    • Goemon
      • Mega Omega Shine: After inserting the Ore and Toucon Boost Eyecons into the Sunglasseslasher while in Sword Mode, Ghost sets his weapon ablaze before using it to cut clean through the opponent.
    • Ryoma
      • Mega Omega Flash: After inserting the Ore and Toucon Boost Eyecons into the Sunglasseslasher while in Blaster Mode, Ghost shoots a stream of intense fire from his weapon at the opponent.
      • Mega Omega Flash + Omega Break: After inserting the Ore and Toucon Boost Eyecons into the Sunglasseslasher while in Blaster Mode and scanning the Gan Gun Saber while in Break Mode, Ghost first creates a large Sword Beam with the Gan Gun Saber then shoots at it with the Sunglasseslasher, firing it forwards.
    • Himiko
      • Omega Drive: Ghost creates a pink vortex around himself and the opponent to keep the latter in place. Afterwards, Ghost slashes the opponent multiple times with an empowered Sunglasseslasher.
    • Grateful
    • Mugen
      • God Omega Drive: The first version has Ghost absorb energy from his friends' emotions and the Gammaizers' energies to deliver a punch powerful enough to permanently destroy a Gammaizer. The second version has Ghost gather said energies to deliver a powerful diving kick, so powerful that it can permanently destroy a Gammaizer. In the movie, it was further powered by Ghost gaining the power from his friends and other Luminary Eyecons, allowing him to gain "wings" in the shape of the infinity symbol.
      • Yorokobi Stream: With the Gan Gun Saber in Naginata Mode and the power of Joy, Ghost charges rainbow energy into the Naginata before slashing with yellow energy.
      • Tanoshii Strike: With the Gan Gun Saber in Gun Mode combined with the Condor Telephone to form its Arrow Mode and the power of Fun, Ghost fires a powerful orange arrow that can penetrate multiple enemies with ease.
      • Shinnen Impact: With the Gan Gun Saber in Gun Mode combined with the Bat Clock to form its Rifle Mode and the power of Faith, Ghost fires a green-hued laser blast.
      • Isama Shoot: With the Gan Gun Saber in Gun Mode in tandem with the Sunglasslasher in Blaster Mode and the power of Valiance, Ghost fires a purple blast, with the Sunglasslasher firing two rainbow-hued blasts that travel up and down in opposite timings of each other in a DNA-like pattern.
      • Ikari Slash: With the Gan Gun Saber in Blade Mode and the Sunglasslasher in Sword Mode and the power of Anger, Ghost hacks away with bright red slashes, ending it with a overhead twin slash.
      • Kanashimi Break: With the Gan Gun Saber in Blade Mode and the power of Sadness, Ghost slashes deeply with one powerful deep blue slash.
      • Love Bomber: With the Gan Gun Saber in Naginata Mode combined with the Spider Lantern to form its Hammer Mode and the power of Love, Ghost spins in place while trailing white energy for one powerful strike.
    • Other
      • Omedama: By clicking the Eyecon four times in a row when it's inside the Driver, Ghost summons an astral projection of the Eyecon which he can kick at foes or seal Gamma Holes.
      • Strengthened Omega Drive (Ore): The Parka Ghosts in Ghost's possession line up after one another and Ghost jumps backwards onto them to combine with them in order to pull off a super-charged Rider Kick.
    • There's a toyline exclusive finisher. Ghost's Gan Gun Saber has compatibility with Specter's Cobra Keitai, with the resulting finisher being named the Omega Crash, which was later use for Necrom.
  • Flight: As a ghost, he's capable of levitating and does it during battle. Notably, he's one of the few Riders to have this ability in his default form.
  • Guns Akimbo: Ghost in Billy the Kid Damashii can fight like this, with the Gan Gun Saber and Bat Clock in their Gun Modes.
    • After gaining Toucon Boost Damashii and the Sunglasslasher, Ghost can fire the Gan Gun Saber in Gun Mode and the Sunglasslasher in Blaster Mode.
    • Tenkatoitsu Damashii can provide usage of Gan Gun Hand and the Gan Gun Catcher in Gun Modes.
  • In the Hood: All of Takeru's various Rider forms sport a hoodie.
  • Instant Runes: He summons an eye-shaped one whenever he activates any of his Omega Drives.
    • He can also form Eyecons by tracing an eye shape on the luminaries' important keepsakes.
  • Long-Range Fighter: The following Damashii applies to him:
    • Edison: Shoots electricity with the Gan Gun Saber in Gun Mode.
    • Robin: Fires energy arrows with the Gan Gun Saber in Arrow Mode.
    • Newton: When either repelling objects with his right-handed Gravity Orb or attracting objects with his left-handed Gravity Orb.
    • Billy the Kid: Either uses the Gan Gun Saber and Bat Clock in Gun Mode or combines them into the former's Rifle Mode.
    • Beethoven: Can either control an enemy's musical attacks and send them back or summon musical notes as his own ammunition.
    • Ryoma: When using the Sunglasseslasher in Blaster Mode.
    • Himiko: When shooting fire from either his crown or fingertips.
  • Light Is Good: Mugen Damashii form has a white suit and is associated with radiance and light as well.
  • Man of Kryptonite: To the Pac-Man Virus, considering how ghosts are Pac-Man's natural enemy and one weakness in his native game. Hordes of Pac-Man Viruses even take away his transformation for a limited time because he's the only one who could stop the outbreak.
  • Meaningful Name: The Eyecon he uses for his main form is the "Ore Eyecon". Ore is just one of many Japanese pronouns for "I", as in it's his own Ghost Eyecon.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: Toucon Boost Damashii and Grateful Damashii.
  • Mini-Mecha: The Iguana Ghostriker, to which Ghost can ride on. The Iguana Ghostriker can also fight by itself, as it handled the Giant Denki Gamma by itself.
  • Phlebotinum Rebel: Subverted normally, as his powers were given to him to fight the Gamma, but Played Straight with Grateful Damashii, as the Gamma originally created it.
  • Rainbow Motif: The secondary color scheme for Mugen Damashii. Covering Mugen Damashii are stylized infinity symbols. The ones on his arms are all warm colors, while the ones on his legs are cool colors. The one on his chest is largely warm, though the bottom portion does get cool colors. In addition to that, when activating Finishing Move in Mugen, they are also rainbow-hued.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Himiko Damashii. To be fair, it is incredibly powerful and based off of a woman.
  • Swiss-Army Weapon: Holy crap, does the Gan Gun Saber run with this trope. Surpassing even the previous champion the Den-Gasher, the Gan Gun Saber can reattach and reassemble its various parts as well as combine with animal gadgets.
  • Summon Magic: After gaining the Eyecon Driver G, he gains the ability to summon the Heroic Eyecons into fighting forms to aid him as Grateful Damashii.
  • Super Mode: Mugen Damashii, obtained from using the Mugen Eyecon formed from his (third) rebirth. And seemingly, Tenkatoitsu Damashii in the movie.
  • Supernatural Light: The horn on his Rider form's forehead (named the Wisp Horn) is in the shape of a blue flame. Seeing as how Ghost is... well, a ghost, it clearly meant to evoke this trope.
  • Took a Level in Badass: He started out getting beaten up by Specter, and was usually only spared out of mercy. Once he's lost his fear of Specter, he's able to fight him on even ground and nearly win. For more points, it's implied Takeru's using something physically weaker to fight him. As the series progress, Takeru gets more and more powerful.
  • Transformation Trinket: The Ghost Driver and the Eyecons, the former being spiritually attached to him. Later, he receives an upgraded Eyecon Driver G and later, the Mugen Eyecon.
  • Tron Lines: His Rider form is covered in such lines, albeit they're not as prominent as the other uses of this trope. However, once he unleashes an Omega Drive, both his face and the lines light up considerably.

    Akari Tsukimura

Akari Tsukimura

Portrayed by: Hikaru Osawa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/akari_tsukimura.png

Takeru's childhood friend. After his death and return as a Kamen Rider, she actively tries to aid him in his search. A college student majoring in physics, she believes there is a scientific explanation for every paranormal phenomena.

  • Agent Scully: To Onari and, to a lesser extent, Takeru's Mulder.
    • Want to know how bad she is with this trope? She dissected a figure of speech.
  • Badass Bookworm: She's refused to just fall by the sidelines and become a cheerleader like female leads before her. She really gets to show it during #48.
  • Boyish Short Hair: Keeps her hair cut short.
  • Childhood Friends: With Takeru and Makoto.
  • The Determinator: In #6, she grabs Takeru's Musashi Eyecon after Specter's beaten him up. Even at gunpoint, she doesn't budge.
  • Flat-Earth Atheist: Holy guacamole, does she hold onto this trope. She grew out of it after #3 though, having met Sage and developed the Shiranui Spray that makes ghosts and Gamma visible.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: She is this. With a little help from Sage, she created the Shiranui Spray that can make the Gamma visible to normal people, as well as modifying a leaf blower to dispense it. This has only escalated in the following episodes, with her building Anti-Gamma weaponry, researching the Gamma Eyecons and a live Gamma, and trying to discover how Gamma Portals are formed, all to varying levels of success.
  • Mama Bear: Is quick to denounce Igor's treatment of his fellow Gamma, stating that they have hearts just like humans do.
  • Proper Tights with a Skirt: Her usual attire, although she is bare-legged on occasion.
  • Ship Tease: In #2, Onari seems to suggest that she wants to be seen as cute by Takeru.
    • Her seemingly selfish birthday present to Takeru, two tickets to a science expo he has no interest in, could be interpreted as her wanting to go on a date with him.
    • In #48, she gets flustered after Onari suggests that her concern for Igor is a sign of love.
  • The Spock: Somewhat Subverted. While she does believe heavily in logic and science, she's also rather emotional. When met with her Evil Counterpart on the Gamma's side, Igor, she quickly comes to hate him for his cold, callous, and purely logical approach to science.
  • Tsundere: She leans towards type A in her first appearance.

    Onari Yamanouchi

Onari Yamanouchi

Portrayed by: Takayuki Yanagi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/onari_yamanouchi.png

The head monk of the Tenkuji temple, he took care of Takeru ever since his father passed away.

  • Adoptive Peer Parent: Has been Takeru's primary caretaker ever since Ryu Tenkuji's death 10 years ago. Onari's age is given by official material as 26, so this trope applies.
  • Agent Mulder: A more vocal one to Akari's Scully than Takeru.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Due to having more experience, he's very observant even in the heat of battle, so he ends up helping Takeru a lot by finding weakpoints, pointing out info or even finding Eyecons.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Perhaps the hammiest and strangest monk in the world. Still manages to help out A LOT.
  • Butt-Monkey: Tends to have some of the worst things happen to him during Gamma-related incidents.
  • Catchphrase: "UNACCEPTABLE!!" (He's clearly yelling that in the OP too.)
  • Dark and Troubled Past: His conversation with Jabel in #27 hint at this, according to him, he did a lot things he regretted in the past.
  • Hidden Depths: Shows a lot of this throughout the series. Him reciting the teachings of Buddha in #27 is a primary example.
  • Large Ham: Typically monks are vegetarian. Onari's diet consists primarily of the scenery.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: Says he used to be like this after Igor turns him into Rapunzel.
  • The McCoy: For a monk he's very eccentric and emotional.
  • Nice Guy: He's generally kind and forgiving. He even save Jabel's life and gave him food when Jabel was dying.
  • Odd Friendship: He's started developing one with, of all people, Jabel.
  • Parental Substitute: He does genuinely care for Takeru, and wants to train him to be as great as his father. Being a servant of the house, he also values his approval greatly.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: He has this dynamic with the Gazai Gamma/Cubi due to his round head fitting the bill of what the artistic Gamma loves to paint.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Despite his butt monkey traits, Onari does have occasional moments to shine. In fact, part of Jabel's Heel–Face Turn stems from his own advice.
  • Warrior Monk: The head monk of the Tenkuji temple and not afraid to directly fight against the Gamma.

    "Sennin" (SPOILERS)

"Sennin"/Edith/Kamen Rider Dark Ghost

Portrayed by: Naoto Takenaka

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sennin.png

The mysterious ghostly old man who resurrects Takeru, kick-starting the plot. Since then, he's been hanging around the Tenkuji Temple and advising Takeru on what Ghost Eyecons are about to show up and on general ghost matters. He later gets his own Ghost Driver to transform into the second Kamen Rider Dark Ghost.

  • Ace Custom: His Gamma Ultima form is black, and powerful enough to go one on one with Adel in his Perfect Gammaizer form for a short amount of time.
  • Cool Old Guy: He's a friendly old guy who loves to cosplay, and who gives Takeru advice on where to find the Eyecons.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Despite becoming a priest at Daitenkuji in the epilogue, he’s absent entirely from post-show media, with Javert taking his place.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Being defeated by Ryu Tenkuji allowed him to see the infinite potential that humans possess and aid Ryu as a result.
  • Eccentric Mentor: He does have his moments.
  • A God I Am Not: When Takeru meets him after dying, he asks if he's God. He denies it, but doesn't specify what he actually is, either. He's actually Magistrate Edith, a high-ranking Gamma who was friends with Adonis.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: He's the one who gave the Ghost Driver to Argos, who becomes the Big Bad of The Movie. In a wider sense, he worked with Adonis to create the Gamma World and is the one who the built the Gammaizers.
  • Ma'am Shock: Inverted- Takeru addresses him as Ot-chan ("Uncle") rather than the more age-appropriate Ojii-san ("Grandpa.")
  • My Greatest Failure: He clearly seems to regret creating the Gammaizers and the life supports system that caused his people's own life force to stagnate and worse, it does the opposite (giving them slow and painless deaths).
  • No Name Given: Takeru calls him "Ot-chan" ("Uncle"), which one fansub renders as "Gramps". Other names used by fans include "Sennin", "the Hermit" and "the Sage". This is because he's actually Magistrate Edith.
  • Not So Above It All: While Edith seems incredibly serious and calm, he immediately drops into Sennin's mannerisms when he realizes that he returned after Adel destroyed him while wearing his Sage getup because he forgot to change.
  • Psychopomp: He acts as Takeru's, meeting him after dying and guiding him in his undeath.
  • Sad Clown: He verges into this in #42 after The Reveal. His Cool Old Guy Troll self hides his magistrate persona, all while having a well-hidden Guilt Complex especially with Takeru's well-being and existence. Akari and company call him out on this; Edith himself took it the hardest as they feel so much concern for Takeru. He gets over it when Takeru deduces that he feels the same way, and reaffirms that he connects with the feelings of others.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: He has tendency to appear out of nowhere and then disappear as soon as no one is looking at him.
  • Troll: Loves acting weirdly and playing pranks.
  • Two Aliases, One Character: He is also Edith.
  • Unlimited Wardrobe: Every scene he's in, he's wearing another wacky costume.

    Yurusen

Yurusen

Portrayed by: Aoi Yūki (voice)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yurusen_render.png

A rather rude phantasm who is assigned by Sennin to guide Takeru after he becomes Ghost. While the Sennin explains how ghosts work and the like, Yurusen is the one who instructs Takeru in how to use his Kamen Rider gear. It is revealed in the finale that its true form is Edith's cat; it slepts in the same pod as him.

  • Aside Comment: If it ain't straight up snark, Yurusen makes these.
  • Bedsheet Ghost: Yurusen creates this effect with the cloak it wears.
  • Blush Sticker: Has very faint ones, but they're there.
  • Cats Are Snarkers: If its true form is of any indication.
  • Cheshire Cat Grin: Yurusen's smile resembles this the most.
    • Ends up having an actual meaning considering that its original body is a cat.
  • Cyclops
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Yurusen first appears in the final episode of Kamen Rider Drive observing Shinnosuke complete his final case, though most of the time, Yurusen was commenting on him holding onto the Newton Eyecon.
  • Episode Title Card: It forms these.
  • Meaningful Name: Its name is based off of "Yuurei" (spirit).
    • Punny Name: Its name is also a syllable or two away from "Urusai", translating into "shut up". Kind of funny considering who it is. Oddly enough, it is also homonymous to the Japanese phrase for "to forgive/forgiveness"; what that means is anyone's guess.
  • Mentor Mascot: To Takeru, which is very odd to a Henshin Hero show.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Is a rather cute little ghost.
  • Troll: Given the fact that its true form being a cat makes perfect sense.

    Ryu Tenkuji

Ryu Tenkuji

Portrayed by: Kazuhiko Nishimura

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ryu_tenkuji.png

Takeru's late father who passed away in front of Takeru's eyes. He's the owner of the Dai-Tenkuji Temple, and a Ghost Hunter who apparently could see ghosts.

  • Badass Normal: He's just a normal human being, but is capable of fighting Gamma with nothing but his fighting and ghost hunting skill. He even managed to defeat Magister Edith in the past. Mind you, Eaith is a Gamma Ultima, one of the most powerful of the Gamma types. Even Takeru needed Grateful Damashii to defeat one. Ryu defeat one when he's just a normal human.
    • In the alternate timeline he can match pace with the Rafaello and Michelangelo Ganmas, even defeating Michelangelo himself and claiming his Eyecon in an off-screen battle.
  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: To the point he even gave his son a power boost in Kamen Rider Ghost × Kamen Rider Drive AND extend his son's deadline another 99 days.
  • Disappeared Dad
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Gives up his own afterlife to extend his son's 99 day deadline, while granting him the powerful Toucon Boost.
    • In Kamen Rider Ghost × Kamen Rider Drive, he risked his own life to save his younger son as Takeru (from the future) could not stop his death from happening.
  • Papa Wolf: The man not only gives up his afterlife to restore his son's, but it's his soul that acts as Boost's Parka Ghost. There's no stopping the love of a parent, not even in death.
    • This extends to Akari as well. In the alternate timeline, Ryu immediately sensed both attempts by the Rennaisance Ganma to kidnap her. The Riders were able to help him stop the first one against the Rafaello Ganma, and he destroyed the Michelangelo Ganma on his own to protect Akari.
  • Parental Substitute: For Makoto and Kanon.
  • Posthumous Character: By the start of the story, he's been dead for ten years.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Gives Takeru a pendant made from a tsuba of Miyamoto Musashi's sword just before he expired.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: He tells his older son from the future he was fated to die as he is dying in front of him again.

    Shibuya and Narita

Shibuya and Narita

Portrayed by: Takuya Mizoguchi (Shibuya), Reo Kansyuji (Narita)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shibuya_narita.jpg
Shibuya (left) and Narita (right)

Trainee priests at the Tenkuji Temple who assist Takeru.

  • Distressed Dude: First taken over by a Gamma, and then held hostage? Shibuya's got no luck.
  • Irony: Shibuya gets taken over by a Gamma, which is ironic given his actor played the younger Ryotaro.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Subverted as the former's full name is revealed to be Shibuya Hachioji, while the latter's full name was Narita Kisarazu as revealed in the sequel novel Kamen Rider Ghost: Memories of the Future.
  • Out of Focus: They get the least screentime out of the heroes. Probably because they're absolutely normal humans.
  • Those Two Guys: If one is around, odds are the other is with him.

Fukami Siblings

    Makoto Fukami/Kamen Rider Specter

Makoto Fukami/Riyon/Kamen Rider Specter

Portrayed by: Ryosuke Yamamoto (live), Jun Watanabe (suit)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/makoto_fukami.png

Takeru's mysterious rival, who also seeks to obtain the Ghost Eyecons. In contrast to our main protagonist, Makoto is a calm and calculating fellow. He is also Takeru's and Akari's childhood friend who disappeared 10 years ago alongside his sister.

Tropes that apply to him in general

  • Ambiguously Human: Alain implied that Makoto isn't completely human anymore. Considering he turned into an Eyecon to return to the Gamma World just like Alain did, he's definitely not human anymore.
    • Ultimately revealed to be an artificially-made human, but like the Gamma, projecting his spirit from outside his physical body. Given that Ghost Drivers can seemingly only be used by those with a tie to the spiritual, this makes a lot of things make a lot more sense.
  • Anti-Hero: Like his fellow Secondary Riders such as Knight and Baron, Makoto has his own agenda when he fights as a Rider. He became heroic after Kanon was revived.
  • Acquired Poison Immunity: A variant. During the Double Chapter of the Rider's Souls! web-series, the Terror Dopant hits him with his namesake power. Turns out, Makoto had already fallen to fear and despair and refuses to do so ever again for Takeru and Kanon's collective sake.
  • The Atoner: Since Kanon's revival, Makoto's been very ashamed to be around the others. Further, he says he will tell Takeru about his time in the Gamma World after her "rectifies his mistake."
  • Bash Brothers: After his Heel–Face Turn, Makoto becomes this with Takeru.
  • Berserk Button: Talking about his little sister after she's reduced to an Eyecon. No longer an example when she revives.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Even after Kanon is revived, Makoto is very keen to keep her out of danger. In one of the post-show appearances she makes, she remarks that after he found out she’d become a Rider, he hid her Eyecon away for this reason.
  • Blood Knight: He's accused of being this when Kanon calls him out.
  • Blue Is Heroic: In contrast with Takeru's heroic orange, his dark blue shows that leans more towards anti than hero and his helmet has a particularly menacing expression. He's become more of a straight hero afterwards.
  • But Now I Must Go: A few months after their battle against the Great Eyezer, he and Kanon had decided to leave the Daitenku Temple to aid Alain in their prospect to turn the Gamma world into a utopia just like Earth.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: He's this between episode 17 and 22, thanks to Alain.
  • Catchphrase: "Let me show you the path I've chosen!"
  • Character Tic: While Takeru simply allows the Parka Ghosts to envelop him, Makoto flexes his arms as though putting them or forcing them on when he transforms.
  • Clone Angst: Re:Birth Specter reveals that Makoto and Kanon (and by extension the Copy Makotos) are attempts by Danton to create the perfect human. He doesn't take well to this revelation at all.
  • Combat Pragmatist: While skilled in battle, he's not above doing things such as stepping on Takeru's hand to steal his Eyecon.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character:
    • Both Makoto and Go Shijima/Kamen Rider Mach are the Secondary Riders who has sisters to their respective families. Go is the younger brother of Kiriko who helps out the heroes since the beginning while Makoto is the older brother of Kanon who initially antagonizes Takeru due to his agenda of collecting the Eyecons in order to revive his sister before joining Takeru's side later on.
    • Like Ren Akiyama, Makoto is a secondary Rider who's determined to revive a loved one by fighting another rider whom he's initially had a hostility with. However, while Ren takes some time to become kinder towards Shinji, Makoto quickly became nicer to Takeru much faster after the latter managed to revived Kanon during the first arc.
  • Cool Bike: His Rider Machine, the Machine Hoodie. Like the Machine Ghostriker, it is normally just a regular motorcycle. However, once Specter activates the Houdini Eyecon, it combines with him to allow access to the Houdini Damashii form.
  • Dragged Off to Hell: Ten years ago, he and his sister were dragged into the Gamma dimension.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Makoto appeared in the third episode before his official debut in the fourth episode.
  • Fatal Flaw: Attacking and refusing to trust those who generally want to help him, like Takeru, whilst listening to the ones who obviously shouldn't be trusted, like Saionji.
  • Freudian Excuse: Yeah, he's a bit of a ruthless jerk, but who wouldn't be after being trapped in what amounts to Hell for who knows how long and losing their sister?
  • Get a Hold of Yourself, Man!: Delivers this to both Takeru and Alain at different points of time. It works.
  • Gone Mad from the Revelation: After findind out his true origin in Specter Re:birth. Saying that he didn't take it well would be a major understatement.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Fights alongside Takeru after the latter uses his wish to resurrect Kanon.
  • Heel Realization: Has this reaction when Takeru got the wish, meaning that all the pain he'd caused him was All for Nothing. It gets worse when Takeru wishes Kanon back to life, proving he'd been hurting someone genuinely trying to help him. This causes his Heel–Face Turn.
  • Hell-Bent for Leather: Is dressed from head to toe in it a la Chase.
  • Leit Motif: His battle theme is quick and heavy on guitar riffs.
  • Meaningful Name: His family name is written with the characters for "deep sea", a parallel to Tenkuji containing the character for "heaven" or "sky."
  • Ninja Looting: To the letter of the trope, what Makoto did to obtain the Nobunaga Eyecon from Takeru's grasp.
  • Parental Abandonment: His father left both him and Kanon after their mother died.
  • Pet the Dog: In #6, he's in a perfect position to kill Akari and steal the Musashi Eyecon. He decides to just leave her alone. For now...
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Blue to Takeru's Red.
    • Gets switched up in #8 and #9. While Takeru's trying to encourage Makoto to calm down and remember how they were friends, Makoto's enraged and more focused on killing him to take his Eyecons.
  • The Rival: To Takeru's The Hero.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Gives one to the Terror Dopant when he frees himself from the Dopant's powers, and punctuates it with his fists.
  • Trapped in Another World: Was trapped in the Gamma World ten years ago with his sister.
  • Tears of Joy: After Kanon is revived.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Both Takeru and Kanon have remarked on how much Makoto has changed over the years.
  • We Used to Be Friends: On both ends. Takeru is horrified of him because of how much he has changed while Makoto wants to defeat Takeru to gain his Eyecons, though he also hates him because of his father, who caused him to be teleported to the Gamma World with his sister. After Takeru revives his sister, Makoto becomes friendly once again.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: His sister eventually gets fed up over his behavior towards Takeru, stating that she doesn't want be revived if he continues attacking Takeru and trying to steal his Eyecons. She even goes as far as accusing him that the only reason he's picking fights with him is no reason at all. This is after he very nearly uses a Rider Kick on both an untransformed Takeru and a defenseless Akari.

Tropes exclusive to him as Kamen Rider Specter

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krgh_specter.png
Kaigan: Specter! Ready, Go! Kakugo! Doki Doki Ghost!
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krdeepspecter.png
Gen Kaigan: Deep Specter! Get, Go! Kakugo! Giza Giza Ghost!
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krgh_sin_specter.png
Shin Kaigan: Sin Specter! Pride! Greed! Lust! Wrath! Envy! Gluttony! Sloth! Break Deadly Sin!
  • Awesome, but Impractical: His Omega Fang finisher is terrifying and powerful, generating a black hole. However, the black hole only activates if the initial energy blast connects, and Takeru has effectively countered it twice simply putting something between him and it.
    • Boring, but Practical: He can do a variant of the Omega Fang that slashes foes in a wide radius around him. It's nowhere near as devastating or flashy as a black hole, but it is great for taking out large groups of Commando Gamma.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: As Necrom Specter.
  • Chest Insignia: Has a modified Ghost Eyecon symbol on his chest, where it has two whisps instead of one.
  • Close-Range Combatant: His Tutankhamun Damashii, where he uses the Gan Gun Hand in Sickle Mode.
  • Finishing Move: Like the finishers of Ghost and many other Riders with specific names before them, Specter has Omega Drives and likely the Omedamas as well.
    • Specter
      • Omega Drive: Specter gathers up spiritual energy into his foot and performs a Rider Kick.
      • Omega Smash: Specter uses the Gan Gun Hand in Rod Mode.
      • Omega Fang: With the Gan Gun Hand in Sickle Mode, Specter flings a triangle-shaped projectile from his weapon which explodes upon hitting something.
    • Tutankhamun
      • Omega Fang: With the Gan Gun Hand in Sickle Mode, Specter flings a triangle-shaped projectile from his weapon which upon hitting the target creates a pyramid with his logo on it behind them where it proceeds to suck them through a wormhole into a dimension and eventually kills the target. Alternatively, Specter extends the blade of the scythe to a ridiculous size and swings it around, hitting a wide range around himself.
    • Nobunaga
    • Houdini
      • Omega Drive: The Machine Hoodie fires multiple chains at the opponent to bind them in place, after which Specter performs a spinning Rider Kick.
    • Necrom Specter
      • Omega Drive: Specter gathers green spiritual energy into his foot and performs a Rider Kick. Alternatively, he can gather the same energy into his Gan Gun Hand in Gun Mode to fire a liquid-like energy ball.
      • Omega Spark: With the Gan Gun Hand in Gun Mode, Specter gathers green energy into his weapon, which he fires out as a large green beam.
    • Deep Specter
      • Giga Omega Drive: Specter gathers up purple spiritual energy into his foot and performs a Rider Kick.
      • Giga Omega Dama: With the Deep Slasher in Blaster Mode, Specter gathers purple energy into his weapon, which he fires out as a large manganese blue fireball.
      • Giga Omega Giri: With the Deep Slasher in Sword Mode, Specter gathers purple energy into his weapon, which he would then use to slash enemies with a giant manganese purple slash wave.
    • Sin Specter
      • Deadly Omega Drive: Sin Specter jumps high in the air, spreads out his dark blue wings, and performs a powerful diving kick at the enemy charged with blue energy.
      • Gluttony Bite: Sin Specter performs a series of powerful kicks at the enemy, covered with a blue energy construct of fangs as he attacks. The energy fangs also 'bite' the enemy as well.
      • Pride Fist: Sin Specter performs a series of powerful rapid punches at the enemy, which the punches are covered with blue energy.
      • Envy Slap: Using the Gan Gun Hand in Rod Mode, Specter performs a more powerful version of the Omega Smash, which could use to slap the target.
      • Lust Bullet: Using the Gan Gun Hand in Gun Mode, Sin Specter performs a more powerful version of the Omega Spark, firing multiple homing shots at the foe.
      • Sloth Grave: Using the Gan Gun Hand in Sickle Mode, Sin Specter charges energy to the Cobra Keitai for a more powerful version of the Omega Fang, Specter creates a dark blue pyramid and vacuums the enemy.
      • Greed Slash: Using the Deep Slasher in Sword Mode, Sin Specter performs a more powerful version of the (Giga) Omega Giri.
      • Wrath Flame: Using the Deep Slasher in Blaster Mode, Sin Specter performs a more powerful version of the (Giga) Omega Dama.
  • Horned Humanoid: Instead of Ghost's whispy single horn made to resemble a ghost light, Specter has two curved Wisp Horns.
    • When using Houdini Damashii, they become the proportionally bigger Striker Horns. And as Deep Specter, they become the even bigger and jagged, antler-like Chaos Wisp Horns.
  • In the Hood: Specter's suit comes with a hood as does Ghost's.
  • Long-Range Fighter: His Nobunaga Damashii, where he uses the Gan Gun Hand in Gun Mode.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: Houdini Damashii.
  • Power Gives You Wings: Gains six angelic wings in Sin Specter Damashii.
  • Seven Deadly Sins: To contrast Mugen Damashii's emotional attacks, Sin Specter Damashii has seven finishers themed after the sins.
  • Super Mode: Deep Specter Damashii and later Sin Specter Damashii.
  • Swiss-Army Weapon: Specter's Gan Gun Hand has four less modes than Ghost's Gan Gun Saber, but one more than his Sunglasseslasher.
    • Standard: Rod Mode and Gun Mode.
    • Combination: Sickle Modenote .
  • The Worf Barrage: The Omega Fang was shown to be a pretty powerful move. Every use afterwards is not as potent as the first time, but it shows how Takeru is able to overcome said finisher.

    Kanon Fukami

Kanon Fukami/Mion/Kamen Rider Kanon Specter

Portrayed by: Mio Kudo, Yuki Miyazawa (suit)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kanon_fukami_6.png
SPOILER

Makoto's little sister, who died sometime after being sucked into the Gamma World and lives on as an Eyecon.

  • Back from the Dead: Takeru wishes her back to life the first time all fifteen Eyecons are gathered.
  • Breakout Character: In post show appearances Kanon has practically all but replaced Akari as the show's main heroine, showing up frequently (and in one case being the only other Ghost character besides Takeru himself to appear) and becoming a Rider herself while Akari hasn't appeared since the Ex-Aid crossover. Kanon was also the Ghost representative in Girls Remix. While some of it is Mio Kudo's popularity with Tokusatsu fans following being cast in Kiramager it's mostly actor availibilty. Kudo loves Tokusatsu and jumps at the chance to return to her roles whenever she can, while Hikaru Osawa has quit acting.
  • Blush Sticker: As an Eyecon, she has two pink patches to either side.
  • But Now I Must Go: She decided to go alongside Makoto and Alain in their quest to turn the Gamma World into a utopia.
  • Finishing Move: Like the finishers of Ghost and many other Riders with specific names before them, Specter has Omega Drives and likely the Omedamas as well.
    • Kanon Specter
      • Omega Drive: has two variations.
      • Kanon Specter performs two punches that create pink energy shockwaves before delivering a chop and kick, both of which leave a trail of pink energy.
      • Kanon Specter sprouts six pink energy wings and performs a flying kick covered in pink energy.
  • Meaningful Name: Kanon is the same as a figure from Buddhist beliefs who got trapped in Hell because she had absorbed the sins of people so they could leave, but also inevitably made it a better place.
  • Morality Pet: For both Makoto and Alain.
  • Parental Abandonment: Her father left her and Makoto after their mother died.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Her Eyecon has a pink hue to separate it from other Gamma Eyecons. It's also Kanon Specter's main color as well.
  • Soul Jar: Her soul resides in an Eyecon or did, until she was resurrected.
  • Took a Level in Badass: In the series proper, Kanon was mostly the Morality Pet for Makoto and Alain. In Specter × Blades, she receives her own Ghost Driver and Eyecon, becoming Kamen Rider Kanon Specter. She later demonstrates in Girls Remix that she doesn’t even need to transform to lay a beatdown.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: A particularly weird inversion. While Kanon never did anything to cause great disaster, Takeru brought her back to life, which in turn led to him still being a threat to the Gamma as he and his friends continue their quest to get the Eyecons for his own resurrection. In short, because of her situation and Takeru fixing said situation, the Gamma still had to deal with Takeru.
  • Walking Spoiler: She was resurrected and joins the supporting cast after the first arc.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: She calls Makoto out on antagonizing Takeru, even if it's for her sake.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Even after seeing Alain brainwash her brother, she really believes that he can be better. Eventually she's correct.

Gamma

    In General
The Gamma are the main antagonistic force in Kamen Rider Ghost. A race of demonic spirits from another realm that can be summoned into our world through a magic portal known as a Gamma Hole. These were initially the work of the Chikara Saionji, a black-wearing man who partnered with and used the Gamma for his own means.

The Gamma see humanity as nothing more than tools to be used, or as prey to be killed for pleasure. Their main goals it to bring more Gamma to the human world, as only few of them can come out of a normal Gamma Hole.

  • Alien Blood: Their blood is black in color.
  • Alphabetical Theme Naming: Done in katakana here. Adonis, Alicia, Argos, Adel, Alia and Alain are all pronounced beginning with the vowel sound "a", which is naturally the start of the alphabet just like in English; Edith and Igor are read beginning with the vowel sound "i", which comes just after "a", indicating their position as high ranking officers. Jabel has his vowel sound "a" as the second katakana, placing him much further down the food chain while alluding to his Elite Mook status.
  • Always Chaotic Evil: The Gamma seem destructive and monstrous by nature. Justified, as they seem to be demons.
    • Not Always Evil: However, at least two of their number, Gazai Gamma and Katchu Gamma break this mold. Gazai by simply wanting to paint and not wanting to fight at all, and Armored by adhering to a strict code of honor and refusing to harm women or children. Igor notably refers to both of them as "defective".
    • It's also downplayed, in that higher-ranking Gamma, in particular the royal family, are shown to have a great deal of positive qualities and nobler motivations.
  • Anti-Villain: As it turns out, the majority of the higher-ups at least appear to have genuinely good intentions towards conquering the human world or simply following orders. Adel and Igor spent most of the show as massive assholes though.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: The Roidmudes from Kamen Rider Drive were a race of machine beings who sought to become more powerful by becoming more humanlike. The Gamma, by contrast, were originally a tribe of humans who forsook their own humanity to become immortal. While the Roidmudes sought to Kill All Humans to make a paradise for themselves, the Gamma seek to make a perfect society by forcing humanity to comply with them. While the Roidmudes all die as tragic villains, the majority of the Gamma survive and pull a Heel–Face Turn.
  • Deal with the Devil: Their M.O., at least for the ones acting for Saionji's plans to gather Eyecons. An unsuspecting human will use one of Saionji's summoning kits to gain a source of inspiration or paranormal powers, not knowing that they become enthralled by the Gamma. The demons then will help the contractor, but they will ensure to twist the desire in ways that best suit their ultimate goals.
  • Death Is Cheap: Even after a Gamma is killed, there's still a good chance they'll come back. However, if their real bodies are destroyed, they are gone for good.
  • Defeat Equals Explosion: Compared to the Roidmudes last year who exploded twice when defeated (their bodies and their cores), these guys give us a triple explosion upon death: one for their Primal Bodies, one for the coats that give them power (which turns back into the item that made up their motif), and one for the Eyecons that give them life. And if a Giant Gamma is defeated, they create an explosion before returning to their normal form, meaning that a single Gamma can explode four times.
  • Demonic Possession: Gammas can take possess people if they have not evolved past their Primal Body form.
  • Demon of Human Origin: Their natural forms is more or less human, but have transformed themselves into demonic spirits by seperating their soul from their body.
  • The Empire: An expansionist, otherworldly society out to conquer our world.
  • Ghost Invasion: They're a race of ghost-like beings out to rule our plain of existence.
  • Hell: Their home world, if not actually this is close. A wasteland with a red sky that almost seems on fire.
  • Hellgate: All Gamma come into the human world via a eye-shaped portal known as a "Gamma Hole".
  • Immune to Bullets: Normal firearms are useless against them, as the bullets just go straight through them harmlessly. The Gamma fighting Shinnosuke mocks him for thinking a handgun would have any effect at all.
  • Intangibility: They can phrase through objects no problem, though it appears to be a will-based conscious thing, since more than once has a Gamma and Ghost had trashed the environment during their fights.
  • Invisibility: They can turn invisible at will, unless you're holding a Ghost Eyecon. It's not entirely clear if this is really an Invisible to Normals-based situation or simply a power, however it appears to be the former.
  • Mooks: Gamma Commandos, black-suited grunts used as soldiers by Evolved Gamma and Gamma elites.
  • Mythology Gag: They have a lot in common with Shocker and it's successors.
    • The default Gamma seem to be modeled after Shocker Combatmen. The titles of the Mooks is "Commandos", which was last used in Skyrider's series with the Ari Commandos.
    • Gamma are rather similar to Yummies as both monsters have a base form (Primal Body for Gamma, White Yummy for Yummies) who can evolve once they are infused with an object.
  • Occult Blue Eyes: The Gamma have blue eyes.
  • One-Winged Angel: If a Gamma absorbs one of the Parka Ghost before Ghost can convert it into an Eyecon, they transform into a Giant Gamma.
  • Our Demons Are Different: Their name literally translates to Eye Demon or Eye Devil, and they're malevolent supernatural creatures summoned via magic to serve their summoner. What's shown of their world is very similar to Hell, complete with a sky that looks like it's on fire. They also have a liking to making Faustian bargains and are capable of Demonic Possession, as well as stealing souls.
  • Our Liches Are Different: They're actually an odd reverse version. Instead of their Soul Jar being their one weak point, it's their original body that is. Otherwise played straight however in that they're beings who removed their souls and put them in some sort of container to gain power. Though it's implied there may be a limit to how many times they can revive.
  • Out of Continues: If forced back to their old body, they can no longer revive.
  • Rule of Creepy: Much like the Zodiarts Switches, Gamma Eyecons look quite different from the Ghost Eyecons. For one, they have a hook that obviously is made to resemble severed optic nerves.
  • Rule of Symbolism: Evolved Gamma have historical motifs, and at times, they have motifs that come into conflict with the motifs Kamen Rider Ghost uses.
  • Soul Jar: Turns out, Eyecons are this for the Gamma. Their real bodies are kept in stasis inside capsules.
  • Theme Naming: The names of the members of the Gamma royal family all starts with "A".
  • We Have Reserves: On a species wide scale. Any Evolved Gamma can be revived from death by simply binding a new Gamma Eyecon to the same item the first one was bound to, complete with the original's memories. Alain takes this up even further as Necrom, summoning and devouring Commando Gamma to keep his suit powered. He even overrides a Commando Gamma's identity with his own to avoid death.

Royalty

    Adonis

Adonis

Portrayed by: Hiroshi Katsuno

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/adonis_ghost.png

Emperor of the Gamma and father of Alain, Adel and Alia. Sent Jabel to assist Alain.

  • Affably Evil: He's a pretty pleasant guy and cares deeply about his children. He isn't all that evil and seems to just want what's best for his people.
  • Decoy Antagonist: The initial references to him make it appear like Adonis is the Big Bad. He isn't, and not only is he a good man, but it's Abel who is the actual main villain.
  • Dimension Lord: Ruler of the Gamma and the alternate dimension they inhabit.
  • The Emperor: The Grand Imperial Majesty of the Gamma.
  • The Good King: Adonis is far from an Evil Overlord, and is instead an extremely benevolent ruler beloved by his people.
  • Good Parents: Love his children and wants the best for them.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Is the ruler of the Gamma, but remains in the Gamma World with Alain being The Heavy and primary villain. Subverted, as Adonis turns out to be the Decoy Antagonist.
  • Killed Off for Real: His real body is killed by Adel in #27.
  • Meaningful Name: Adonis is the name of the Greek God of vegetation.
  • Orcus on His Throne: Is the true ruler of the Gamma, but mainly acts through his son Alain and his minion Jabel. Possibly justified, as Jabel implies high ranking Gamma require the boundary between their worlds to degrade for them to be able to come through.
  • Sacrificial Lion: Adonis' murder at the hands of his own son is the series biggest narrative turning point.
  • Universally Beloved Leader: All of the Gamma seem to hold him in high regard and even Adel, who ended up killing him, believed in his ideals.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: It isn't long after we get to meet him that he's overthrown by Adel, and it isn't long after that that he's killed off for real.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: He truly believes that the Gamma World is a perfect utopia compared to the human world, and believes that humans will keep on fighting each other if they have free will.
    • Alia reveals more of his motivations in #39, namely that His wife passed away and his other son, Argos, succumbed to illness soon after. This caused Adonis to fall into despair and attempt to create a Utopia. He also never aimed to invade the human world.

    Adel

Adel/Perfect Gammaizer

Portrayed by: Akihiro Mayama (live), Masashi Takada (suit, Gamma Ultima), Eitoku and Yugo Fujii (suit, Gammaizer)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/adel_ghost.png
Click here to see Perfect Gammaizer

Alain's older brother. He desires the Ghost Eyecons as well to enact his own desires...

  • 0% Approval Rating: For all his talk of building a utopia, Igor seems to be his only real supporter and most of the other Gamma we see, including his own sister, aren't on board with his plans. In #41, Makoto outright states that Adel's insufferable god-like delusions made him despised by everyone else.
  • A God Am I: Once he's granted the power of the Gammaizer, he considers himself to be the "perfect existence" and the one who will guide the world. Becoming Perfect Gammaizer, as well as being able to connect with the Great Eye, just make his conviction of this even stronger.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: Adel might be a delusional Narcissist who backstabbed his way into becoming emperor and tried to eradicate free will from the entire world, but he eventually realized the error of his actions. Moments before Adel could reform, the Gammaizers took over him, forcing Takeru to kill him to free him the Gammaizers' control. It ends with a saddening goodbye to his siblings as Adel's spirit ascends in the afterlife.
  • Assimilation Plot: His plan with the Demia Project is effectively to absorb everyone's souls and override their individual personalities with himself, create a perfect world united by him.
  • Badass Longcoat: Sports a black one since his debut episode. He takes it off by #43.
  • Big Bad: He gradually supplants Alain as the one leading the charge against humanity and further solidifies himself as this by killing Adonis and usurping the throne. It's even revealed much later that Adel was the one who suggested the idea of invading the human world in the first place, with him eventually devising the Demia Project to reinforce his hold on both the Gamma and human worlds. However, while he holds it for the majority of the show, it gradually becomes clear the Gammaizers are the ones pulling the strings.
  • Cain and Abel: Framed his own brother and tried to have him killed.
  • Combat Tentacles: One of Perfect Gammaizer's powers lets him spawn these to attack people.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: Both Adel and Tenjuro Banno are the series' respective Big Bads who became a God Wannabe bent on conquering the world with them as their ruler. However, while Banno was a self-absorbed narcissist, Adel is a fanatic who fully believes in what he's doing. As such, while Banno died an evil bastard, Adel realized all the errors he made as a madman before dying after he attempts to undo the mistakes he made.
  • Despotism Justifies the Means: He's a megalomaniac who is obsessed with power and he will do anything in order fulfill his invasion on the human world and reshape it in the same vein as the Gamma world.
  • Drunk with Power: After becoming the Perfect Gammaizer he started slipping into this, and giving less of a care what happens to his own family.
  • Easily Forgiven: Even after all the crap he's pulled, including bragging about killing Takeru's dad, Takeru forgives Adel mostly on the merit that he's still Alain's brother. Alain and Alia also likewise forgive him because he's their family.
  • The Emperor: After killing his father, he is now the new Emperor of the Gamma World.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: He did genuinely love his mom while she was alive, and her death was a major catalyst for his Knight Templar mindset.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Apart from his mother, he also seems to care for his sister Alia to a degree. It's subtle, but when she revolts against him and gets put down, Adel doesn't kill her and instead keeps her alive so she can witness him "become the world".
  • Evil Counterpart: To Alain as a character, and as Perfect Gammaizer he has virtually the exact same abilities and fighting style as Mugen Damashii.
  • Eviler than Thou: To Alain. Alain is dangerous and villainous, but Adel is clearly much worse than him. Proven when Adel kills their father and frames Alain for it.
  • Evil Overlord: After becoming Emperor of the Gamma. Fully cemented when he uses the Demia Project to turn everyone into copies of himself under his control in order to become the world's absolute ruler.
  • The Evil Prince: Killed his own father and frames his younger brother for it.
  • Freudian Excuse: It's been implied that his mother's passing when he was young had a profoundly negative effect on him.
Makoto: Who are you creating a perfect world for? There is no one around you anymore!
  • Heel–Face Door-Slam: While he gets forgiven by Takeru and convinced to turn good, the Gammaizers possess him the moment he backs down from their plan, forcing the heroes to Mercy Kill him.
  • Hidden Agenda Villain: He wants the Ghost Eyecons, and is willing to deceive his brother to get them, but why is unknown. Turns out he's planning to overthrow his father and rule over both human and Gamma worlds.
  • I Am the Noun: "I am the world itself!"
  • It's All About Me: Somewhat literally, as his master plan is to turn everyone into duplicates of himself.
  • Jacob Marley Warning: Gives one to Alain as his Last Words before departing for the afterlife.
"Don't make the same mistakes I did."
  • Knight Templar: He does everything he does in the name of making a "perfect world", including assimilating everyone into himself.
  • Light Is Not Good: His Gamma Ultima form is almost completely white. He also discards his black cloak, revealing his white and gold uniform, right around the time he goes completely Knight Templar.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Takeru manages to break through Adel's defenses in #48 and, along with an assist from Alia, shows Adel the error of his ways. It doesn't last long before the Gammaizers forcibly assimilate him, leaving Takeru with no choice but to kill him.
  • Narcissist: Sees himself as the only one who can fulfill his father's ambitions in a distorted way.
  • Never My Fault: His attitude and irrationality pretty much ensures that he'll never admit that these precise traits have brought about chaos rather than the perfection he seeks.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain!: Framing Alain for their father's death and forcing him into his mortal body eventually led him to join the side of humans and help them stop Adel.
  • One-Winged Angel: Eventually uses the powers of the Gammaizers to empower himself into Perfect Gammaizer.
  • Orcus on His Throne: Unlike his younger brother, he stays behind in the Gamma World to study the Gammaizers and generally leaves most things to Igor to carry out.
  • The Perfectionist: An incredibly dark example. He craves perfection, both in himself and in the world, and he doesn't care what he has to destroy or sacrifice to get there.
  • Pre-Final Boss: Despite being the Big Bad and the one built up as the ultimate foe for Takeru, he isn't the Final Boss. Once he gives up on his plan, the Gammaizers hijack the plot and reveal themselves as Takeru's true final opponents.
  • Psycho Supporter: He believed in Adonis's vision more than Adonis did, to the point of usurping him when he felt he was straying too much.
  • Sanity Slippage: He starts out cold and composed, but his continued contact with the Gammaizers leads him to become increasingly insane, letting out more and more psychotic Evil Laughs and becoming convinced the only way to realize his perfect utopia is to absorb everyone into him.
  • Self-Made Orphan: Killed his own father once he considered his existence to no longer be necessary.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Given Alain's behavior, and the fact Adel ordered Jabel not to tell Alain about the Eyecon's true power and instead gather them for him, it seems the two have this going on.
  • Smug Super: A villainous example. He begins to showcase this upon ascending to the throne and introduced to the power of the Gammaizers, those he deemed imperfect are considered beneath him. It also doubles as his Fatal Flaw.
  • The Sociopath: Considers everyone as inferior and isn't above killing his own family members. He was confirmed as this the moment he told Magistrate Edith that the extinction of the Gamma was "of no concern".
  • The Starscream: He kills his father and usurps the throne. Ironically, this was because he was loyal to his father's ideals, he just thought his father wasn't worthy to carry them out after sensing he doubted the Gamma's plans to create a perfect world.
  • The Stoic: Even worse than Alain, he hardly ever changes his expressions, even when killing his own father.
    • Not So Stoic: Having the power of the Gammaizers at his disposal, his cold facade is slowly slipping as he starts letting out some Evil Laughs and Psychotic Smirks. Takeru acquiring Mugen and destroying some of the Gammaizers also cause him to show anxiety and restlessness for the first time.
  • The Unfettered: He doesn't even care if he kills his own family in his mad quest for perfection.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Alia states in #45 that he used to be kind and loving to his family, even idolizing his father. Then their mother died.
  • The Usurper: His ultimate goal: to overthrow his father and become emperor. He succeeds.
  • Villainous Breakdown:
    • He verges into this each time whenever a Gammaizer is destroyed.
    • Has this in #45 when Takeru inadvertently entered on his memories.
    • Then in #48 again as Takeru fully connects to Adel's heart, it was only a matter of time he dropped into his knees, realizing his mistakes.
  • Walking Armory: Like Mugen Damashii, Perfect Gammaizer's fighting style rapidly switches between using different weapons, in his case the various weapon-type Gammaizers.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: His Start of Darkness, also doubles as a deconstruction. Due to his mother's death and his disappointment toward his father. His dad actually lack of appreciating toward himself.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: Look at his attitude and Sanity Slippage throughout the series.
  • You Killed My Father: He literally killed the fathers of all three Riders in the show, including his and Alain's own dad.

Alain from #16-29.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alain_green.png
Alain after solidifying his Heel–Face Turn.
Youngest child of the Gamma World's ruler, he initially worked alongside Saionji to obtain the 15 Ghost Eyecons and bring forth an army of Gamma with the intent of invading the human world.

With the Mega Ulorder, Alain can assume his own Rider form known as Kamen Rider Necrom.

Tropes that apply to him in general

  • Ambiguously Human: He looks human, but his ability to summon Gamma under his own power and Jabel (a Gamma) stating he's the son of 'the Great Ruler' who apparently dwells in the Gamma World. He is ultimately confirmed to be a Gamma in #12 when he turns into a Gamma Eyecon to return back to their world.
    • Despite this, he has a mortal body that is no different from human as he is reminded at every other turn after being forced back into it.
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: Very confident in his abilities. At least pre-Heel–Face Turn.
  • The Atoner: After forcefully having Adel killed out of mercy, he takes Adel's place as ruler of the Gamma World to make it a utopia like earth to honor his legacy and atone for his wrongdoings.
  • Badass Normal: The guy is strong enough to fight against Specter with his bare hands without any transformation or power-up whatsoever, a rarity in the world of Kamen Rider and that's before he became Necrom.
  • Bad Boss: Doesn't seem to care his arrival in the human world as Necrom sent several of his own minions flying in the process, and in order to maintain his power in Necrom form he has to eat his own minions. He also uses several of them as living shields to protect himself. He might be the Gamma Prince, but he doesn't seem to give a darn about most of them.
    • That it was never proven that Gamma Commandos are more than mindless puppets doesn't make thing much better.
  • Berserk Button: Takeru is this to him for some time as Alain is jealous because he thinks Takeru lured Makoto away from him. Makoto actually chose to follow Takeru of his own free will, but their attempts at explaining it to Alain just didn't get anywhere.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: #5 revealed that Alain only helped Saionji on gathering the Eyecons as long as he helps Alain on whatever he is planning. Once Saionji was momentarily out of the picture, he was this with Adel up until he gets framed for Adonis's death.
  • Big Eater: He once ate ten boxes of Takoyaki without even noticing until he was told. Also, he was halfway through the eleventh one when that happened.
  • Break the Haughty: His time in his mortal body hasn't been kind to him. Learning his father is dead and his brother is using him as a scapegoat, getting beaten savagely by Jabel and watching Makoto's Eyecon shatter in front of him. Realizing that he's afraid to die pushes this into Heroic BSoD or Villainous BSoD territory.
  • Broken Bird: Gets to experience this twice. He went into a Trauma Conga Line when his father is mercilessly killed by his own brother. The second one would be when Mrs. Fumi passes away in #30. Alain takes the latter the hardest unexpectedly to the point he doubts his feelings. This eventually cemented his Heel–Face Turn.
Alain: If I feel this way because I have a heart, then I don't need a heart.
  • Brought Down to Normal: After having his Gamma Eyecon destroyed, he is forced to return back to his human body. And while he still can use Mega Ulorder to become Necrom, he lacks most of his powers.
    • Later events imply that he still has a number of those powers, but using them would be harmful if not outrightly deadly for him.
  • But Now I Must Go: A few months after their battle against the Great Eyezer, he, along with Makoto and Kanon, had decided to leave the Daitenku Temple and returns to the Gamma world in their prospect to turn his home world into a utopia just like Earth.
  • Cain and Abel: Adel framed him for Adonis's death and tried to have him killed to cover his tracks.
  • Catchphrase: "Listen to the call of your heart!"
  • Character Development: And how! Losing his royal title, father, and pretty much everything else forces Alain to rethink his entire outlook on life. By the end of the series, he's practically unrecognizable to how he started.
  • The Chessmaster: His plan seems comparably complex compared to Saionji's, with most Gamma working directly for him centered around setting up the pieces.
  • Death Is Such an Odd Thing: As the world of Gamma is supposed to be free of death, it confuses him a great deal. His father's death throws him into messy Heroic BSoD. Following death of Grandma Fumi left him both in pain and completely dumbfounded.
  • Despair Event Horizon: After Adel kills their father for real, Alain stops responding to anything and lets himself be dragged around by Takeru. Makoto gets him out of it later on.
    • Death of Gradma Fumi causes slightly less severe one to him, but still as heartbreaking and important.
  • Deuteragonist: Despite not being the official Second Rider, Alain's character arc spans the entire series, and is pivotal to the narrative as a whole.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Daddies: He is even acknowledged as such by Alia. He was shocked to learn that Adel framed him for killing his father, not knowing that it was Adel who started it in the first place. When Adonis is finally Killed Off for Real by Adel, this left Alain broken as a result and even forced him over the Despair Event Horizon for a while.
  • Evil Laugh: He has pretty good one while charging up to his full power as Kamen Rider Necrom in #24.
  • The Evil Prince: A prince of the Gamma and the one spearheading their invasion of Earth. He ditched this role upon switching sides.
  • Expy: Plays the same role as Taiga Nobori, both non human riders (Alain is a Gamma while Taiga is a Fangire) were originally antagonistic to the heroes who wants to achieve their goals for the sake of their races until they became good upon learning the error of their ways about humanity's problem.
    • He is also similar to Takatora Kureshima in regards of being a white-colored rider that was initially antagonistic to the heroes before siding with the heroes in the end.
  • Face Doodling: Courtesy of Onari. Paid him back, though.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Most visible on his first outfit that has mismatched sleeves. Also, he wears only one earring.
  • Fallen Princess: A male example. He was the prince of the Gamma World who's making a preparations for the invasion on Earth until he was thrown out by his brother Adel and accused of being their father's killer.
  • Good Costume Switch: An entire outfit conveniently in light green and white, passed to him by Mrs Fumi. Sadly, it also becomes a Tragic Keepsake. It even matches his color scheme as Kamen Rider Necrom.
  • Grand Theft Me: If his body is ever destroyed, he can easily possess the body of another Gamma to regain it back.
    • Ironically, this also happens to him when he ends up possessed by Onari when he becomes an Eyecon!
  • The Heavy: He's the one advancing the Gamma invasion, at least for the first half.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Not exactly by choice, but he makes one after Adel kills their father and uses Alain as the scapegoat.
    • He does come around to it more after a few realizations and his father getting Killed Off for Real.
  • Heroic BSoD: Gets hit with this brutally hard when his father died in his arms and then crumbled to dust.
  • Heroic Willpower: Eventually used to overcome the time limit on his suit. He really gets put through the wringer in order to get there.
  • Hidden Agenda Villain: While Saionji needs the Eyecons for his plans, Alain's plans are a complete mystery until later into the series.
  • It's All My Fault: Tries to pin himself with the blame for getting in way of defeating Gammaizers. He does, in fact, have only limited possibilities fighting anyone on the Gammaizer level.
  • Large Ham: When possesed by Onari after the latter has been turned into eyecon. Alain's own range of emotion is pretty subtle most of the time so it is tad suprising to see Hayato Isomura nail the scene.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Alain's disdain for Takeru and humans in general would become somewhat ironic after he was forced into his mortal body and teamwork with Takeru.
  • Leit Motif: His battle theme is heavy, creeping electronic tune. His personal tune post Heel–Face Turn is sorrowful violin piece.
  • The Load: Feels like this because his loose grip on what it means to have a mortal body (and the mortal body itself) greatly limits his fighting abilities and overal usefulness in battle. Takeru and Makoto try to convince he is not to mixed results.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: His older brother has given orders to Jabel not to tell Alain the truth about the Eyecons' power. Though thanks to Jabel's bungling, he's started to become aware of this.
  • Nice Guy: Post his Heel–Face Turn, Alain becomes a kind, humble person, far from the Jerkass Smug Super he was in the beginning.
  • Out of Continues: Is forced back into his original body by his brother, meaning he's mortal now.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: He starts out by acting like a five-year-old who was turned away by his presumed BFF when talking to Makoto through the first half of the series. Also, his debut as Kamen Rider Necrom really gave off the vibe of a rich kid showing off a new toy. Realizing the error of the Gamma ways removed the psychopathic part, leaving him with only occasional bouts of harmless immaturity.
  • Rebel Prince: His current role after he started to work alongside the heroes.
  • Really 700 Years Old: When Grandma Fumi (who is 75) says that he might as well be a child compared to her, he proclaims that he has lived twice as long as she has.
  • Smug Super: Pre-Heel–Face Turn. He showcases this during his first transformation into Necrom. Deconstructed when Adel dethroned their father and takes the trope from him and after becoming permanently mortal.
  • The Stoic: Initially appears to be so, unless he is chatting with Makoto. It stops after he is forced into mortal body and the human world, where he starts to feel and express a wider range of emotion. This leads to:
    • Not So Stoic: In #23, Makoto saves him from being executed by Jabel, but is heavily wounded and his Eyecon disintegrates. Alain sheds a tear, visibly broken by the events.
  • Summon Magic: Alain in #4 is shown to be able to open a Gamma Hole powerful enough to summon at least 8 Gamma Eyecons to serve in his plans. Also, he can summon Gamma Commandos to use as fuel of his suit.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Big time, post-Heel–Face Turn.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: After becoming mortal, he seems to have taken a liking to Takoyaki.
  • Trauma Conga Line: AND HOW. Adel destroys his Eyecon, turning him mortal again, he gets blamed for his father's supposed murder, has seen two people literally die right in front of him and gains a fear of death because of it, and the first real human friend he gains after becoming mortal passes away due to natural causes. Needless to say, Alain's literally gone through hell after gaining the Necrom powers.
  • True Companions: He gets to have this relationship with Takeru and Makoto after everything they did to each other.
    • This is cruelly tested and twisted in Kamen Rider Ghost RE:BIRTH: Kamen Rider Specter. Challenged allegiances and heaps of trauma even set Makoto and Alain against each other, ending in Alain being mortally wounded.
  • Unable to Cry: Alain cried when Makoto sacrified himself to save him, but was too shocked to do so when his father died and when came to know about the death of Gradma Fumi.
  • Villain Episode: Has his own mini series, Legend of the Hero Alain. It details his encounters with the human world, humans and his attemps to understand everything through the series.
  • What Is This Feeling?: Quotes this trope nearly word to word after becoming mortal. It takes him a moment before he realizes that he is afraid, of death in particular.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Alain at least seems to feel this way, as he's rather ticked off when his father sends Jabel to 'babysit' him and takes it as meaning his father doesn't trust him to operate on his own.
  • Yandere: He does not take Makoto's Heel–Face Turn well. Besides hating Takeru for causing said turn, he almost seems obsessed with getting Makoto back on the side of the Gamma.
  • You Killed Our Father: He calls Adel out for this.

Tropes exclusive to him as Kamen Rider Necrom

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krgh_necrom.png
Tengan: Necrom! Mega Ulord! (Death metal music) Crush Invader!
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krgh_necromyujouburst.png
Yujou Kaigan: Burst! Ore ga Burst! Yujou Burst! Tomete Miseru Ze! Omae no Tsumi Ō!
  • Achilles' Heel: He's stronger and faster than the other Riders with more powers, but has one critical weakness: his suit can run out of power and needs to be recharged. His first fight with them ends when they simply manage to hold out until he runs out of power and Commando Gamma to absorb to recharge.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Unlike Ghost and Specter, Necrom, especially in his base form, relies more on hand-to-hand combat.
  • Cannibalism Superpower: Necrom is incredibly powerful, but his suit runs on Gamma, requiring him to absorb them to keep fighting.
  • Character Tics: Just like Takeru and Makoto, Alain has his own quirk when donning a Parka Ghost. His is gripping the right side and lightly tugging it to adjust it.
  • Combat Tentacles: In Grimm Damashii, in addition to being able to be used as daggers, the pen nib-like edges on his shoulders can extend on green tendrils and be used as this.
  • The Corrupter: He can seemingly brainwash Eyecons and his Necrom Eyecon itself can control a Ghost Driver-user. Poor Grimm and Specter...
  • Cyclops: The faceplate in Necrom's base form has a giant eye on it, which is visible through the visor in all of his forms.
  • Demonic Possession: His corruptive powers seem to stem from this as a base. He can even possess his own kind to either move out of the way of attacks or command them to fight, which seems to make them stronger.
  • Elemental Shapeshifter: Can shift into a liquid form which allow attacks to harmlessly pass through him.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Kamen Riders Ghost and Specter, giving that his suit is white to the heroes' black.
    • Right down to the transformation sound riffs. Ghost and Specters are fast rap sounding, while Necroms are shorter, more rock based riffs.
  • Evil Knockoff: Seems to be this, seeming to be more like Powered Armor than the other two's Rider forms (which seem to be more of a physical transformation) and having a much more artificial look to him. Even his Eyecon seems completely different than any other type. It also needs to be actively powered and recharged to maintain transformation.
  • Fantasy Metals: His suit is composed of 'Quantum Metal', which permits him to phase through attacks.
  • Finishing Move:
    • Necrom
      • Omega Load: The Necrom Eyecon announces "Destroy!" as Necrom charges demonic energy into himself, which he can channel as a Rider Kick, Rider Punch or a blast of energy from his palms. Upgrades into Playing with Fire after absorbing some energy from Gammaizer Fire.
      • Omega Finish: Using the Gan Gun Catcher with an Eyecon slotted in it, Necrom can fire an energy blast at his foe depending on which Damashii he's using at the time.
    • Sanzo
      • Omega Ulord: Necrom summons the spirits of Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing, who then transform into a cloud that Necrom can ride on for a quick getaway. Once he gains Sanzo's friendship and loyalty, however, the spirits instead attack Necrom's enemy while Necrom rushes in for the final blow.
  • Gamma Resource: Necrom's Parka Ghost needs to be recharged or his transformation will be dropped. How does he recharge? Summon some Gamma and absorb them.
  • Hour of Power: The Necrom powers seem to run on a time limit which Alain needs to feed or they'll fade and cancel his transformation.
  • Intangibility: He has the ability to make himself intangible towards his opponent's attacks. According to official materials, this is a property of the material his suit is made of.
  • Irony: His transformation call is 'Crush the Invader'. Necrom is the extradimensional invader.
  • Necessary Drawback: Has a lot of sheer power with a Superpower Lottery, but unlike the other two, more limited Riders, he has a finite energy supply and will run out of power if he doesn't recharge. The more damage he takes and the more power he uses seems to speed this up.
  • Necromancer: Befitting his name, he can directly control hoards of Gamma Commandoes, and is able to brainwash the Heroic Eyecons.
  • Superpower Lottery: Stronger than the Driver-based Ghosts, can command Gamma and Eyecons alike, and has a wide powerset that neither Ghost nor Specter possess.
    • Can't Catch Up: However, Necrom eventually starts lagging behind Ghost and Specter because of its lack of an equivalent to the Mugen and Deep Specter Eyecons. Earning the loyalty and friendship of his partner Eyecons and the acquisition of the Gan Gun Catcher alleviates this somewhat. This even extends to his upgrade Yujou Burst. It only upgrades him to about mid-season powerup levels while in the same V-Cinema Makoto reaches Mugen levels of power.
  • Taking You with Me: Apparently, his ultimate attack is this by putting all his energy into one self destructive attack. He's tried this on two occasions but never got to do it either time. Justified, as Alain is a Gamma and thus he can just respawn if this happens. Until he was returned to his real body.

    Alia

Alia/Kamen Rider Dark Necrom P

Portrayed by: Reon Kadena (live), Satoshi Fujita (suit)

Click here to see Kamen Rider Dark Necrom P

Alain and Adel's older sister. She seems to be the one who took the Fukami siblings under her care when they were stranded in the the Gamma world. She eventually becomes Kamen Rider Necrom Pink.

  • Disposable Woman: Averted as a whole but played straight with her Rider form. While she is defeated in her only fight as Dark Necrom P, she survived the story; making her the first female Rider since Mayu to survive the stories of her series.
  • Nice Girl: She is shown to be a kind person unlike her brothers. She takes care of the Fukami siblings and misses them a lot when they left the Gamma World.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: Being a fairly strong and skilled fighter is nice and all, but it means very little when you're fighting against the equivalent of gods.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: She's understandably skeptical of Adel's claim that Alain killed their father, as she knows just how much Alain respected their father.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: As an adult, she is identical to her mother.
  • Token Good Teammate: She's the only member of her family who isn't villainous or a Knight Templar at all.

High-Ranking Gamma

    Jabel

Jabel

Portrayed by: Sotaro Yasuda (live), Shinsuke Kusano (suit)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jabel.png

A human-looking Gamma who can use a special Eyecon to transform into the stronger Superior Gamma. He was sent by Alain's father, Emperor Adonis, to Earth to aid his son in their plans.

  • Badass in a Nice Suit: Dresses up like a noble and can easily go against both Ghost and Specter at the same time. Though only when they're not actively working together against him, though even then he's a challenge to them.
  • Back from the Dead: First time in #15, courtesy of Alain. However, as revealed in #22, only his Eyecon got destroyed during both of his deaths, as his real body is completely fine, as Adel gives him another Eyecon to transfer his soul to.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Part of his Heel–Face Turn is due to Onari treating him with kindness.
  • Blood Knight: While he didn't seem like it, #15 makes him seem like this, as he spends most of his fights either being disappointed in Specter due of how weak he is now or asking Ghost to put more power to his strikes. Even when he is on the receiving end of a Rider Kick from Specter, he is saying how this is the hatred what makes him feel alive.
  • Cyclops: If you look at Superior Gamma's visor close enough, you notice that it has same eye pattern that Eyecons have.
  • Came Back Strong: After his second defeat he was given a much stronger "Ultima" Gamma Eyecon that let him assume a similar form to Adel's Gamma form. He was able to Curb stomp Necrom and Specter with it. He loses it and goes back to his Gamma Superior Eyecon after being beaten by Takeru's Grateful Soul.
  • Dragon with an Agenda: Sent by Adonis to act as Alain's bodyguard, but it's clear from early on that he's under mysterious orders from Adel as well.
  • Foreshadowing: Mentions Alain's father the "Great Ruler" in his debut episode. And also reveals in #10 that Alain has an older brother who is presumably more powerful given that he could order Jabel to lock Alain out of the loop as to the power of the Eyecons.
  • Heel–Face Turn
  • Horned Humanoid: The Superior Gamma suit has a single straight horn in the head.
  • I Choose to Stay: Decides to stay in the human world after being resurrected.
  • Mauve Shirt: While he's shown early on to be very tough, it becomes apparent later that, as a Gamma Superior, he's just one of many Elite Mooks in the Gamma.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: Surprising for a villain, but is promoted from Gamma Superior to Gamma Ultima.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: His name comes from Inspector Javert, the main antagonist of Victor Hugo's Les Misérables.
  • One-Winged Angel: When he returns, he fuses with a Gundari to become a superpowered version of it.
  • Praetorian Guard: While most Gamma Superior seem to be Elite Mooks, if not Mook Lieutenants, he himself serves the royal family above the others.
  • Redemption Equals Death: Gives up his life to prevent Alain from doing a suicide attack on Great Eyezer. Thankfully, he is resurrected thanks to Takeru.
  • So Proud of You: After sacrficing himself for Alain, he says he's proud of how much his master has grown.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: After returning to his real body and being stuck in the human world, he become very fond of Onigiri just as much as Alain likes Takoyaki.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Goes berserk when his failures make Alain disappointed in him. It gets him killed when he goes off to face the Riders all on his own.
  • Walking Wasteland: His Ultima form grants him this power, causing anything he touches for long enough to decay.
  • The Worf Effect: The first time he really fights he is represented as someone who is able to take on both Ghost and Specter at the same time, only to almost die to them when they start working together. And in the next episode, he dies in a Curb-Stomp Battle after Takeru acquires Toucon Boost. And then he returns to demonstrate his ability to fuse with Gundari, he ends up dying again, this time to Specter Houdini Damashii. It happens again when he returns with his Ultima form, only to get utterly curbstomped by Grateful. Seems the poor guy's fate is to keep playing the Jobber to new forms.
    • #38 shows he's painfully aware of this, and it's sent him into a depression.

    Igor

Igor

Portrayed by: Hiroshi Yamamoto

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/igor_ghost.png
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gamma_superior_perfect.png

Another Gamma Superior like Jabel, this one working as a scientist. He possesses a prototype version of the Mega Ulorder, what can use Gamma Eyecons to empower his Superior Gamma form further. He is Adel's subordinate and only obeys his order and not Alain's.

  • Bad Boss: He's prone to scolding and abusing his subordinates.
  • Break the Haughty: After Akari keeps slapping him, he loses his smug demeanor and becomes increasingly more of a joke.
  • Butt-Monkey: While he might have his intimidating moment, at his core he's this due to being greatly outclassed by the time he starts getting more involved in fights even with his incredibly varied transformation set, often getting casually tossed out of the way. It's telling that the first time he actually won a one on one fight decisively was against Onari.
  • Dirty Coward: He perfectly has shades of this.
  • The Dragon: He's Adel right-hand man and the one who generally oversees things in the human world on his behalf.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Akari. Both of them believe deeply in science, but his ideals as a Gamma greatly contrasts with Akari. Hilariously enough, them being each other's counterparts leads him meeting his intellectual match and rival in Akari herself, which eventually blossoms into, of all things, love.
  • Evil Genius: He is a man of science (or scotopography, as it is called in the World of Gamma) and not a really pleasant person.
  • Evil Knockoff: His device is this to Ghost Driver, as it uses Gamma Eyecons to achieve same effect.
  • The Evils of Free Will: His speech to Akari in #17 can be summarised as the only way for a perfect utopia is for lack of any variables, and individuality what humans possess for example just creates more and more of them.
  • Expy: Cast in the same mold as Brain for being an Evil Genius with Butt-Monkey traits of their respective groups.
  • The Heavy: As Adel would rather stay in the Gamma World and study the Gammaizers, it's Igor who handles most things in the human world including oversight of Demia's development in the second half.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Turns good one after being revived by Takeru's wish.
  • In-Series Nickname: Akari calls him "KMS": Kanpeki-narunote  Mad Scientist.
  • In the Hood: He has a parka in his Superior Gamma form, and can create ones based on previous Gamma with his device to empower him further.
  • Jerkass: Good Lord is he. It shows the most during #28 where the Onpu Gamma composes several famous orchestral pieces from history for him and he declares each and every one to be trash causing Onpu to have a Freak Out and flee.
  • Laughably Evil: He becomes this after receiving many receiving ends of bitch-slaps from Akari.
  • Mad Scientist: In contrast with Akari's Science Heroine, she outright calls him this.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Some of his plans, such as when he creates a dream world that gives people what they want while allowing him to drain their souls.
  • Monster of the Week: Due to his Transformation Trinket which lets him assume forms based on various Evolved Gamma, he's basically a one man version of this.
  • Mythology Gag: His use of Gamma Eyecons is similar to how Chaser used Roidmude Viral Cores, except these are complete transformations rather than weapon mode changes.
  • The Perfectionist: Quite frankly, most of his plans are actually legitimately brilliant and would likely work... if he ever decided to give his subordinates the tiniest bit of leeway whenever a hitch comes up. He doesn't, so much whining and freaking out tend to happen instead.
  • Smug Smiler: Almost always has a smug smirk on his face. At least until Akari keeps slapping him.
  • Smug Snake: Of all people, he has much ego for someone as genius as him.
  • Taking the Bullet: For Akari of all people in #48.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: In the Specter V-Cinema, he actually seems upset when Akari doesn't slap him and reacts with glee when she does.
  • Troll: Seems to enjoy taunting Takeru and his friends.
  • Villain Decay: Starts out a very sinister Mad Scientist, but after Akari keeps slapping him he gradually becomes more and more of a joke.
  • Ugly Guy, Hot Wife: He marries Akari in the tie-in novel Memories of the Future, making them this trope.
  • Your Soul Is Mine!: He carries a device around his neck that can be used to gather up souls, and then release them to be used as his puppets.

    Gyro

Gyro

Portrayed by: Seiji Takaiwa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gyro_ghost.png

Alain's former instructor. Considered by Igor to be Jabel's replacement.

  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: He's an Ultima Gamma. It goes without saying that he qualifies.
  • The Brute: He's incredibly tough and able to fight with Ghost Grateful Damashii one-on-one.
  • Killed Off for Real: He was permanently killed off by Danton during the events of Ghost RE:BIRTH: Kamen Rider Specter gaiden movie.
  • Made of Iron: Took several Omega Drives without dying. It took Mega Omega Formation, which is 16 consecutive Rider Kicks to put him down.
  • Proud Warrior Race Guy: To the point where he got pissed when Takeru refused to use Mugen to fight him, considering it an insult.
  • Time Master: In his first fight with the Kamen Riders, he rewinds time to protect himself from the Riders' Triple Rider Kick, thus forcing them to retreat.

Human Accomplices

    Chikara Saionji

Chikara Saionji

Portrayed by: Yoshiyuki Morishita

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chikara_saionji.png

A man who knows the truth about the Eyecons and has the ability to summon Gamma.

  • Big Bad Duumvirate: #5 reveals that he and Alain have different goals, his involving gathering the Eyecons, and are merely helping each other on their goals.
  • Captain Ersatz: Very similar to Toht from Raiders of the Lost Ark, from the outfit to the quest for artifacts. Which even foreshadows his eventual fate.
  • Didn't Think This Through: While he does manage to gather all 15 Eyecons, he fails to factor in the possibility that the spirits of legendary heroes won't approve of someone evil trying to make a wish.
    • Or more to the point, that the very device you've been carrying around might be needed for the ritual, since it CAN make the ritual items in the first place.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: Is the first of the major villains to be defeated, meeting his end around a quarter of the way in.
  • Dragged Off to Hell: Is dragged into the Monolith when the Eyecons reject him. It's unknown where he ended up, but given the last time it happened to Makoto and Kanon, it's likely nowhere nice.
  • Evil Former Friend: To both Ryu Tenkuji and Kenjiro Igarashi. Out of jealousy for Ryu, he stabbed him in the back and was initially implied to have had a role in his death.
  • The Heavy: For the early part of the show, at least. He's the one creating Gamma at first and he's later revealed to have been responsible for the Fukami siblings' disappearance and (partly) the death of Takeru's dad, who was his former colleague.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Came back in Truth! The Secret of Heroes' Eyecons! where after being defeated, he realized how hard working Ryu was; Takeru then told him that deep inside him that he had the respect of his old partner and that father regarded him a hero and gave him the Da Vinci Eyecon. While Saionji refused and left, he put out the picture, stating to Ryu of how he overestimated him.
  • Karmic Death: Stabbed Ryu Tenkuji in the back and had a role in Makoto and Kanon being sucked into Gamma World under an agreement between him and Igor, who wanted human samples. In the end, he's dragged into the Monolith himself when the Eyecons reject him.
  • MacGuffin Delivery Service: Basically lets Specter and Ghost gather most of the Eyecons for him, then snatches them right out from under their noses AND Jabel's.
  • The Man Behind the Monsters: He's responsible for about half the Gamma, and even the half he's not behind are on his side.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Manipulates people to get the Eyecons, normally to convince them to make a Deal with the Devil with a Gamma so they'll be corrupted and sacrificed to make an Eyecon.
  • Mysterious Backer: Most of the shenanigans arise from this man somehow locating the items belonging to the historical figures across the world, and smuggling them to Japan.
  • Red Right Hand: He looks like a normal person... until he shows his Scary Teeth.
  • Scary Teeth: He makes Steve Buscemi look adorable!
  • Self-Disposing Villain: His own mistake of not having a fully functioning Ghost Driver does him in.
  • Summon Magic: He can do this with the Gamma, and has the means to help other people summon a Gamma.
  • Take Over the World: His wishes to gain power to control everything.
  • Taking the Bullet: Shielded Kanon from Danton in Ghost RE:BIRTH: Kamen Rider Specter, resulting in his death and finally considering himself a hero to Ryu Tenkuji.
  • The Unfought: Takeru doesn't even get to really meet him face-to-face before he gets sucked into the Monolith after gathering the 15 Eyecons but lacking a proper Ghost Driver to get a wish.

    Steve Bills

Steve Bills

Portrayed by: Thane Camus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/steve_bills.png

The president of Deep Connect. While outwardly an ally to the Paranormal Investigation Labs, he is actually Gamma-possessed and under Igor's control so that his company can be used as a front for the Gamma's Demia Project.

  • Consummate Liar: Igor enforces this on Bills as a diversion from Takeru and the gang, they didn't realize this until #44.
Igor: Bills is my minion. I've been watching him fool you and laughing in the shadows!
  • Meaningful Name: Based on Steve Jobs and Bill Gates.
  • The Mole: When Takeru and friends infiltrated Deep Connect in #29, Igor had him roughed up a bit to make him look like he wasn't involved in the Gamma's plans and thereby earn the Riders' trust.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He acts like one, and probably would be without Igor influencing him.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: As he and the others try to escape Adel's influence in #46, Bills ended up being affected and had his head changed to Adel, prompting the others to scream and run; Bills was not seen again at all from that point on, though it was presumed that he and all others affected by the Demia Project were restored back to normal.

    Copy Makoto

Copy Makotos

Portrayed by: Ryosuke Yamamoto (live), Yohei Fujita (suit actor)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/copy_makoto.png

A clone of Makoto Fukami sent by Adel that transforms into Kamen Rider Specter. To distinguish himself from the real one, he wears the Gamma's military uniform as opposed to the real Makoto wearing leather. It was later revealed that doppelgängers were a side effect of Makoto's usage of the Deep Specter Eyecon. The Eyecon draws power from the Gammaizers to give it incredible strength, hence the Gammaizers created the doppelgängers as a counter to this. Specter's V-Cinema retcons this into the 15 Copy Makotos being incomplete prototypes of Makoto that were stolen from Danton.

Tropes that apply to him/them in general

  • Ax-Crazy: One of the obvious traits to distinguish himself from the real Makoto, most especially the crazy eyes.
  • Becoming the Mask: #47 shows that he's starting to become more and more like Makoto, to the point where he confuses himself by considering Takeru his friend. It turns into a full on Heel–Face Turn in #48 when he starts fighting alongside the real Makoto in earnest and later pulls a Heroic Sacrifice to save the original's life.
  • Enemy Mine: Does this with the real Makoto in #48.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Of a sort. He might be an amoral and cruel clone of Makoto, but He's still a clone of Makoto and so can't bring himself to snap Kanon's neck when he has a perfect chance even though he's been ordered to.
  • Evil Twin: Of Makoto. This trope is taken literally when the doppelganger starts wearing the real Makoto's leather jacket to further fool his friends.
  • Psychotic Smirk
  • Synchronization: Each time Makoto defeats his doppelganger, he experiences seizure-induced pain.

Tropes exclusive to him as Kamen Rider Specter

  • Mirror Match: Since he uses the Specter Eyecon, this leads the real Makoto into relying into the Deep Specter Eyecon. This trope becomes even more literal when the doppelganger gets his own Deep Specter Eyecon.
  • Willfully Weak: The Specter doppelganger intentionally allows himself to be curbstomped by the real Makoto to make him feel pain.

Monsters

    Gammaizers

Gammaizers/The Great Eyezer

Portrayed by: Akihiro Mayama (live, voice from #34-46), Sayaka Ohara (voice until #34, then #47-48)

The 15 "Protector Gods" of the Gamma World, their job is to protect the Gamma World from outside threats. They materialize from the 15 monoliths in the Gamma Emperor's prayer room.

  • Beware the Silly Ones: Gammaizer Climate, who usually carries a silly-looking blue bird with cloud for wings that looks like Swablu, is actually the very Gammaizer that guided Adel into becoming Perfect Gammaizer, the one that helped other Gammaizers in developing sentience and emotion. The birds may look silly, but when used in attack, they hit as hard as other Gammaizer's attacks.
  • BFG: Gammaizer Rifle's true form.
  • BFS: Gammaizer Blade's true form, which can even split into two for Dual Wielding.
  • Blow You Away: Gammaizer Wind is the fourth one.
  • Demonic Possession: Late in the show, several of them possess previous victims of the week as part of their study of human emotions.
  • Deus est Machina: Guardian gods of the Gamma, who are really golems created by Edith under Adonis's direction.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Gammaizer Planet, which uses Earth-based attacks.
  • Eldritch Abomination: The Great Eyezer's gigantic form. Monstrous in form and can easily erase a human being's body and soul.
  • Evil Counterpart: To the 15 Heroes.
  • Expy: Being the evil counterpart of 15 heroes and The Great Eye, this would makes them expy of Corrupted Holy Grail. Bonus points that they are also voiced by Sayaka Ohara. Even more after becoming The Great Eyezer, as they become one with the The Great Eye itself minus it's benevolence.
  • Final Boss: After Adel is taken out, they merge with the Great Eye to become the Great Eyezer and attempt one more time to carry out their plans.
  • Fusion Dance: Turns out they can merge together in the power booster version of this trope, which Gammaizer Magnetic and Gammaizer Blade do to become Gammaizer Magnetic Blade. They can also merge with the Great Eye to create the Great Eyezer.
  • Gravity Master: Gammaizer Gravity is the second one.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Are the ones empowering Adel and prove to be the greater force behind him, particularly Gammaizer Climate, who is the one playing Treacherous Advisor to Adel and the one who led the other Gammaizers to become sapient.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: By the end of the show, Takeru and crew still have no way to permanently defeat the Gammaizers, who've learned how to revive each other even when killed by Mugen. They proceed to merge into a One-Winged Angel form that, while much more powerful, can't revive anymore and thus is quickly slain. The irony comes in that in their initial appearances, they frequently turned Takeru's own All Your Powers Combined form against him in similar fashion.
  • Impressive Pyrotechnics: Great Eyezer has quite possibly the biggest, fieriest death explosion of any toku villain ever.
  • The Leader: Gammaizer Climate seems to be the one who takes the lead among them, being front and center in their roll call formations, as well as the one who deceived Adel into letting them develop sapience.
  • Magnetism Manipulation: Gammaizer Magnetic's ability via Gammaizer Magnetic Blade.
  • Making a Splash: Gammaizer Liquid is the third one fought by Takeru and co.
  • The Man Behind the Man: Takeru's friends realize that the real threat to the world is the Gammaizers and not Adel (who has been manipulated by the Gammaizers all along), which is made worse when they merge with the Great Eye.
  • Me's a Crowd: Their human form are modeled after Adel. Yes, ALL of them. Their voice is that of a woman at first, until switching to Adel's voice, then briefly to several individual voices of people they've possessed, and finally back to the woman's voice.
  • Monster of the Week: Supplant the Advanced Gamma as the monsters Takeru must periodically fight. Though their regenerative powers mean they last much longer than a single episode.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Gammaizer Magnetic Blade, a rare non-humanoid tokusatsu monster that's not CG or a puppet, but two people in a suit.
  • Palette Swap: The Great Eyezer is a gold color repaint of Kamen Rider Extremer.
  • Physical God: They are the protector gods of the Gamma world and the backbone of the world's existence. They are strong enough to stop the summoning of The Great Eye when Takeru tried to do it for the second time, by sending a huge energy blast towards the monolith in the Dai-Tenkuji temple. After absorbing the The Great Eye and becoming the Great Eyezer, they become even more omnipotent, even able to turn night into day easily.
  • Playing with Fire: The first Gammaizer that Takeru and co. face is the Gammaizer Fire.
  • Resurrective Immortality: If killed, they simply regenerate back in the prayer room in their monolith forms. In fact, the reason why they consider Takeru to be such a great threat is because his Mugen Damashii form is thus far the only thing that can permanently take them out of action.
  • Shock and Awe: Gammaizer Electric.
  • The Straight and Arrow Path: Gammaizer Arrow's true form.
  • Weather Manipulation: Gammaizer Climate.

    Empowered Gamma

Katananote  Gamma

Portrayed by: Takahiro Fujiwara (voice), Yugo Fujii (suit)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/katana_gamma.png

A Gamma that was summoned and empowered alongside the Gamma that would become Yari. With Yari, Katana wreaked havoc on the city in search of the Eyecons until he met our hero... and killed him. Thankfully, he soon came back to fight back. After Yari's death, Katana was next, and goaded Ghost to follow him. After some Bike-Fu, Katana summons some Gamma Commandos to tire out Ghost, only for Ghost to find the Musashi Ghost and Musashi Eyecon.

  • Blade Below the Shoulder: His right arm is a giant, wide sword.
  • Came Back Strong: Became much more powerful after resurrecting, with new powers and able to keep up with Takeru's Mid-Season Upgrade.
  • Hero Killer: This is the guy who kicked of the story. Not bad for a Monster of the Week.
  • Karmic Death: Katana's death personifies the phrase "Live by the Sword, Die By the Sword". He kills Takeru with his sword arm, and gets killed by Musashi Damashii.
  • Killed Off for Real: Meets his karmic end with Ghost Musashi Damashii's Omega Slash with the Gan Gun Saber in Twin Sword Style Mode. And again when he comes back in #13, where he's killed again by Goemon Damashii with the Sunglasseslasher's Mega Omega Shine.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain!: Congrats on creating the very thing that continually kills off your kind on a weekly basis, Katana Gamma.
  • Rule of Symbolism: Katana is based on Sasaki Kojiro, who had died fighting Miyamoto Musashi. Fitting how it was Musashii Damashi that ended Katana at first.

Yarinote  Gamma

Portrayed by: Kosuke Takaguchi (voice), Eitoku (suit)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yari_gamma.png

A Gamma that was summoned and empowered alongside the Gamma that would become Katana. With Katana, Yari wreaked havoc on the city in search of the Eyecons until they meet our hero... and Katana killed him. Thankfully, he soon came back to fight back, which ends up getting Yari killed.

  • Blood Knight: Yari is very confrontational, especially compared to his partner, Katana.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Akari barely avoided this fate thanks to Takeru when Yari tries to take a stab at her.
  • Fearless Fool: Charged head-on towards Ghost when Ghost was charging up his finisher.
  • Killed Off for Real: Is killed by Ghost Ore Damashii's Omega Drive Rider Kick.
  • Rule of Symbolism: Yari is based on Houzouin In'ei, a Buddhist monk that developed the Houzouin-ryu style of spear combat that revolve around the jumonji yari, which is also the type of spearhead that Yari was empowered with.
    • Interestingly, Miyamoto Musashi once fought someone who was trained in the style.
  • Telescoping Staff: Showed that Yari's yari can extend its length once.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Hurls a Pirate Ship ride full of children into a observation tower without a second thought.

Giant Body

A Gamma who was summoned courtesy to Dr. Sonoda who uses the doctor to turn his idea of a teleportation device to a device what would create a giant Gamma Hole. While successful on creating the device and almost opening it after fusing with Edison Parka Ghost, his plan was stopped by Takeru and was killed off when he acquired Edison Damshii.

  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Became the first Gamma to become a Giant Gamma by absorbing the Edison Ghost when it was freed from its sealed state.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Denki played a contributing role in his own death, where he was shooting electricity at Ghost Edison Damashii. Turns out, Edison Damashii can absorb and redirect electricity.
  • Killed Off for Real: Was blasted away by Ghost Edison Damashii's Omega Shoot with the Gan Gun Saber in Gun Mode.
  • The Muse: Sonoda intended to use the Gamma in this manner, but it was turned against him.
  • Never Bring a Knife to a Gun Fight: Don't bring swords to a fight with a electricity-shooting monster.
  • Rule of Symbolism: Due to fighting against Edison Damashii and its head resembling a Tesla coil, it hearkens back to the "War of the Currents", where Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla campaigned against each other over the use of direct electrical current and alternate electrical current.
    • His Giant form looks an awful lot like a battleship. It might be a reference to the Philadelphia Experiment, an alleged military experiment that happened on U.S. Navy destroyer escort USS Eldridge (DE-173). In said story, the ship was claimed to be invisible/cloaked from any opposing battleships.
  • Shock and Awe: Par for the course.
  • Wall Jump: His Giant form can cling into walls and scale up them by jumping up them.

Ononote  Gamma

Portrayed by: Takuya Kirimoto (voice), Yugo Fujii (suit)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ono_gamma.png

A Gamma who was summoned to help out Mari Shirase in her Robin Hood-like crime spree as Little John. His true objective, however, was to corrupt her so that her soul would turn into an Eyecon in order to gain the Robin Hood Eyecon. His plan was foiled when Takeru broke Mari out of his influence and then used Robin Hood Eyecon to take him down.

  • Barbarian Longhair: His hair is long, messy and red to boot.
  • Deflector Shields: Can create a red mist-like shield front of him to stop any projectiles from reaching him. However, this applies to his own axes as well, and needs to create gaps in shield for them to reach anywhere.
  • Killed Off for Real: Gets shot down swiftly by Ghost Robin Hood Damashii's Omega Strike with the Gan Gun Saber in Arrow Mode.
  • Rule of Symbolism: Ono is based on Juraj Jánošík, a Slavic folk hero, who was really similar to Robin Hood, as both of them stole from the rich and gave the loot to the poor.

Book Gamma

Portrayed by: Kiyohito Yoshikai (voice), Jiro Uchikawa (suit)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/book_gamma.png

A Gamma who assisted a Primal Body Gamma who was possessing Sakuma Risa in an attempt to gain the Nobunaga Eyecon, with his role being to spread his clones across different places to eventually raise a part of a city into the skies to create "Azuchi Castle" to Hashiba Nobuyoshi to further his corruption. They were almost successful before Ghost arrived and was able to defeat Book Gamma.

  • Alice Allusion: The book he was fused with is Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and his costumes has aspects from different characters from the book, most notably the Mad Hatter.
  • Doppelgänger Attack: He can create multiple clones of himself.
  • Doppelgänger Spin: He attempts to pull this off when Ghost activates Omega Strike. Unfortunately for him, he did not know about Robin Hood Damashii's Omega Drive.
  • Killed Off for Real: Gets shot down by by Ghost Robin Hood Damashii's Omega Strike with the Gan Gun Saber in Arrow Mode, with help of Robin Hood Damashii's Omega Drive.
  • Mind over Matter: He has some sort of telekinetic powers. Where he normally can only cause small objects to levitate, entire army of clones in certain locations allow them to lift an entire city-block into the skies.
  • Rule of Symbolism: His base design is an Alice Allusion, suggesting he was based on Lewis Carroll, the book's author and a famous mathematician and logician.

Machine Gun Gamma

Portrayed by: Katsumi Chō (voice), Daisuke Satō (suit)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/machine_gun_gamma.png

A Gamma who alongside his "famiglia" was send into an elementary school for an unknown plan, with him making sure no one gets into the school. His plan manages to be successful, but only after Ghost defeats some of his companions, after which Specters drops in and finishes the job.

  • Arm Cannon: Has eight machine gun barrels in his right arm.
  • A Father to His Men: A villainous example towards is "famiglia". He gets pissed when Ghost kills a few of the Commando Gamma under his command.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: Dresses up like a typical gangster and is the first Gamma to really keep Ghost on the ropes.
  • Back from the Dead: Briefly comes back in #24 alongside Seiryuto Gamma in order to kill Alain, but neither of them last that long.
  • Bear Trap: For whatever reason, he has one for a mouth.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Has absolutely no qualms on keeping Akari and Onari hostage to prevent Ghost from attacking him before attacking.
Machine Gun Gamma: You gotta do whatever it takes if you want to win, kiddo.
  • Gratuitous Italian: Refers to the Commando Gamma under his command as his "famiglia"note
  • More Dakka: Natch.
  • Rule of Symbolism: This Gamma, quite obviously, is based on Al Capone, one of the most notoriously known gangsters of his time.
  • Too Dumb to Live: If he just didn't shoot Specter in the back, the Rider would've taken care of Ghost and the problem would have resolved itself. Way to go.

Onpunote  Gamma

Portrayed by: Norihisa Mori (voice), Jiro Uchikawa (suit)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/onpu_gamma.png

A Gamma what was summoned courtesy of Kousuke Kimijima, whom he helped on composing his next masterpiece. However, his true plan was to make him connect with Beethoven so that he can then make Kousuke kill himself and such create the Beethoven Eyecon. His plan was foiled when Takeru broke his influence over Kousuke and summoned the Beethoven Parka Ghost, eventually leading his defeat.

He comes back in #27 by Igor's will in order to create a composition to the launch event for Demia Project. However, he soon finds out that Igor isn't particularly interested in classical music at all...

Giant Body

A Gamma who used her insects to take control of a neighbourhood of people for the purpose of helping the Gamma to create a new monolith for unknown usage. While she provided to be one of the most persistent Gamma what Ghost has faced, he was able to break the people out of her control and defeat her once and for all.

  • All Webbed Up: Takeru's method of countering her swarm ability? Using the Spider Lantern to create a giant web, snagging her like a giant sticky fly trap.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: If a humanoid wasp wasn't large enough, her Giant form is a giant queen bee on top of a bulldozer.
  • Flight: She is capable of flying even without any actual wings.
  • High-Class Glass: Wears a really large monocle. Which seems to come with the fact that the object she was fused with was a magnifying glass.
  • Killed Off for Real: Is blown away by Ghost Billy the Kid Damashii's Omega Impact with the added assistance of the Spider Lantern.
    • Not quite, Jean-Hennri Fabré was quite recognisable in the field of entomology for his trench coat and hat, which he wore when investigating insects.
  • Not Quite Dead: She escapes death not once, but twice. The first time she avoid Takeru's Omega Impact by sending a portion of her swarm to take the attack for her, and the second time she survives the destruction of her Giant Gamma form by evacuating her main body from it before Takeru destroys it. It takes Takeru discovering her main body and destroying it to make her death stick.
  • One to Million to One: She has the power to transform into a huge swarm of wasps.
  • Puppeteer Parasite: She can use her own wasps to take control of a huge group of people at once.
  • Rule of Symbolism: Despite being a female Gamma, she is based on the French entomologist Jean-Henri Fabré. This is more notorious with the original design of the Gamma: A male dung beetle.
    • Her wasp motif also brings to mind Shocker's own Wasp Woman.
  • Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: Justified as all the evolved Gamma are armor pieces and accessories added to the same base Gamma suit.
  • The Worm That Walks: Her true form is a swarm of wasps and one tiny version of her combined body, which acts as the core of her being. This also means that as long as her core survives, she does.

Seiryuto note  Gamma

Portrayed by: Tetsu Inada (voice), Hajime Kanzaki (suit)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/seiryuto_gamma.png

A Gamma summoned by Saionji for the purpose of creating the last remaining Eyecon needed for his plan, after which he is ordered to get the Eyecons what Takeru and Makoto had in their hands. He is successful on getting Takeru create the Benkei Eyecon, but only manages to get Makoto's Eyecons before he can get his hands on Takeru's collection, even if it puts Saionji in favourable situation.

Planet Gamma

Portrayed by: Yuma Uchida (voice), Eitoku (suit)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/planet_gamma.png

A Gamma that Alain empowered alongside a new Katana Gamma to take over a Satellite that they can use to rapidly advance their operations. He used his electronic powers to attack anyone talking on a Cellphone or Smartphone, and then helped Alain take over a Radio Telescope so they could take control of the Satellite.

  • Barrier Warrior: Can project a force-field that protects him and Katana from Edison Damashii's Omega Shoot.
  • Bash Brothers: Unlike the Spear Gamma, he actually aids the Katana Gamma in battle.
  • Chest Blaster: Also can shoot planet-like projectiles out of his chest.
  • Killed Off for Real: He gets blasted into nothing by Ryoma Damshii's Mega Omega Flash with the Sunglasseslasher in Sword Mode.
  • Rule of Symbolism: Based on Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space.
  • Shock and Awe: Capable of unleashing electronic attacks over a wide range, from electric bolts to EMPs.
  • Your Soul Is Mine!: Was stealing souls from people who were talking on the phone and hijacked a satellite so he could do this over a huge area. They're all released upon his demise.

Knife Gamma

Portrayed by: Kōichi Sakaguchi (voice), Yuya Nawata (suit)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/knife_gamma.png
A Gamma who came to Earth alongside Igor to kill innocent people to gather up souls for him. After a long killing spree, he was eventually discovered with help of Miwako Hino, and Ghost managed to save the captured souls from Igor and destroy the Knife Gamma.
  • Backpack Cannon: The pipes in his back can be used to launch projectiles.
  • Fog of Doom: He can generate purple fog he likes to ambush people in, which can also block phone signals and even cause people to levitate.
  • Killed Off for Real: He gets sliced to pieces with Himiko Damashii's Omega Drive.
  • Rule of Symbolism: He is based on the notorious British serial killer Jack the Ripper.
  • Shear Menace: His pair of blades look like two giant scissor halves. Fitting, since a pair of scissors was the very object that Knife was infused with.

Gazai note  Gamma/Cubi-chan

Portrayed by: Taiki Matsuno (voice), Jiro Uchikawa (suit)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gazai_gamma.png
A Gamma who came to Earth alongside Igor in order to help him infiltrate a company building, after which Igor send him to paint more of the city. Unlike other Gamma, however, he has no real malice, and only wishes to just paint stuff.
  • Art Shift: His power in a nutshell. Anything he paints gets replaced with his abstract version of it, from buildings to people. However the changes can be reversed by ripping the painting in half.
  • Body Horror: His entire body looks like an abstract painting, including his face being rather warped compared to other Gamma.
  • Expy: He shares similar traits with Roidmude 072, as both are Harmless Villains who want to live peacefully with humans. Unlike Roidmude 072, he survives.
  • Love It or Hate It: In-Universe example. Onari despises his art, partially because it was affecting him, but Akari loves it.
  • Made of Iron: Non-Action Guy or no, he took an Omega Drive from Necrom Specter that was meant to kill Takeru and was merely knocked unconscious.
  • Meaningful Rename: Akari names him Cubi-chan after Cubism, the abstract art-style he practices.
  • Nice Guy: Despite being a Gamma, all he really wants to do is paint. When he sees changing the Ghost Driver caused Takeru distress he apologized and tore the painting in half, reversing it's effects.
  • Non-Action Guy: He really has no way to fight at all, and doesn't really want to. All he has is his power, which is ultimately rather harmless.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: Just wants to paint and is Obliviously Evil.
  • Obliviously Evil: He only wishes to paint what he sees with no evil intentions to it. Unfortunately, the things he paint turn to resemble the collage paintings he makes, thus causing havoc.
  • Put on a Bus: After hitting a slump in his art, he eventually decided to go Walking the Earth to gather more inspiration alongside the recently befriended Onpu Gamma.
  • Rule of Symbolism: He is based on the 20th century artist Pablo Picasso.
  • Taking the Bullet: Takeru does this for him to save him from Igor. Later on he returns the favor by taking Necrom Specter's Omega Drive to save Takeru. Thankfully, he survives.
  • The World Is Just Awesome: He loves the human world because of all the shapes it has in it. His favorite shapes to paint in particular are round things like Apples, Gas Tanks, and Onari's head.

Katchu note  Gamma

Portrayed by: Naoko Kouda (voice), Minoru Watanabe (suit)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/katchu_gamma.png
As his project is advancing, Igor summons a sword-wielding Gamma to take care of Ghost and Specter in order to gain their Eyecons. However, she is less effective than he hopes for, due of her code of chivalry conflicting on just finishing the job.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Igor is forced to pull this on her to keep her head in the game.
  • Killed Off for Real: She eventually meets a warrior's death by Ghost Toucon Boost Damashii's Omega Drive, utilizing the Sunglasseslasher.
  • Let's Fight Like Gentlemen: She finally gets a chance to go one-on-one with Takeru without any outside interference, staying true to her code of honor.
  • Noble Demon: Another rarity among Gamma, she refuses to escalate the fight when near the defenseless.
  • Rule of Symbolism: A female Gamma despite her rather masculine-looking armor? It's Joan of Arc!
  • Playing with Fire: She can create blue flames to burn out person's soul and her Sword Beam manifest as a blue wave of fire.
  • Wouldn't Hurt a Child: Her code of honour prevents her to bring harm to children.
  • Wouldn't Hit a Girl: Her code of honour also prevents her to bring harm to women.
  • Worthy Opponent: Considers Takeru one, to the point where she didn't follow her orders to kill Cubi in order to have a duel with Takeru.

Hikokinote  Gamma

Portrayed by: Atsushi Imaruoka (voice), Satosh Fujita (suit)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hikoki_gamma_brothers.png
Younger (left) and Older (right)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hikoki_gamma_perfect.png
Hikoki Gamma Perfect

A duo of Gamma brothers sent to redden Earth's skies.

A third one, by the name of Hikoki Gamma Perfect, appears in #36.

  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Played straight with the first two Hikoki Gamma, which one of their shoulders being the propeller, the other one being the wing. Subverted with the third one, where both of his shoulders are the wings, with the propeller attached to his forehead.
  • Large Ham: The younger brother's an eccentric one, often posing as if he is an airplane.
  • Mad Bomber: While the younger one can shoot with his fingers, the older one goes for more devastating attacks using explosives and missiles.
  • Rule of Symbolism: Like Grimm, he is based on 2 historical figures, and this time, they are The Wright Brothers. He even has Orville Wright's mustache. It was revealed that there were 2 of them, the first one appeared in #25 is the younger brother, Orville and the other one is the the older brother, Wilbur.
    • They may also based on Manfred and Lothar von Richthofen, the former of whom is also known as the "Red Baron", due to their red color schemes and their main ability being spraying gas, especially Hikoki Gamma Perfect who wears flight goggles.
  • Verbal Tic: He has a habit of shoving the japanese onomatopoeia for a revving enginenote  into his speech at random.

    Gundari

Gundari

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gundari.png

Gigantic serpent-like creatures from the same world as the Gamma that serve them.

  • Captain Ersatz: How did the Chitauri gave the Gamma their Leviathans!?
  • Elite Mooks: Alain got ticked off Jabel 'wasted' them and the four we see are naturally stronger and larger than the average Giant Gamma.
  • Giant Flyer: Despite looking more like giant snakes, they can fly pretty fast.
  • Giant Mook: They're gigantic, being about 57 feet long and weighing about 19 tons. For reference, the Denki Gamma's One-Winged Angel form was only a third the size of one.
  • Invisible to Normals: Notably subverted and the biggest difference between them and the Gamma, as they appear to be naturally visible rather than needing to be revealed somehow.
  • Kaiju: Have no humanoid form and are absolutely massive.
  • Our Demons Are Different: They're from the same world as the Gamma and look suitably demonic, but are even different from them.
  • Prehensile Tail: With talons, perfect for smacking a Rider around.
  • Undying Loyalty: Seem to have this, as one sacrificed itself to save Jabel.

Civilians

    Yasushi Onodera

Yasushi Onodera

Portrayed by: Yasuomi Sano

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yasushi_onodera.png
Mailman in charge of delivery to the Tenkuji Temple. He is another of Takeru's allies.

    Fumi Fukushima

Fumi Fukushima

Portrayed by: Hisako Okata

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fumi_fukushima.png
A kindly woman who runs a takoyaki stand that Takeru, Akari, and the Fukamis frequented as kids; and Kanon has started visiting her again now that she's back in the human world. Due to meeting her during his visits to Kanon, Alain soon forms a friendship with her as well.
  • Killed Off for Real: In a story where few people die for good thanks to being spirits, she passes away of old age in #29, and her own spirit only shows up in #30 so Alain can give her a proper goodbye.
  • Morality Pet: For Alain, frequently encouraging him to follow his heart.
  • Shipper on Deck: For Kanon and Alain based on how close they are and on how Kanon uses the "-sama" honorific for him, not realizing that their relationship is platonic.
  • Weirdness Censor: She regularly either misinterprets Alain's comments about not being human, or just dismisses him as being a weirdo. The Alain's Heroic Saga specials show that they met once when she was a young adult, with him in the present day not realizing she has aged while she always recognised him, which adds a third option: She always knew, and she didn't mind if he was human or not.

Others

    Eyecons/Parka Ghosts

15 Heroes

Voiced by: Tomokazu Seki

Fifteen souls of great people throughout history.

Shared Tropes

  • Clothes Make the Superman: Quite literally as they are effectively sapient parkas that give the wearer more power.
  • Evil Counterpart: Inverted, they were chosen as guardian of humanity as countermeasure against Gammaizer who are guardian of Gamma.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Some of them weren't very... morally upright people during their times and yet they willingly give their aid to Takeru in his battle against the Gamma.
    • That stated, Musashi warns Takeru that not all the fifteen will be as willing to assist him as both would like.
  • Historical Domain Characters: All of them are. Though some are a bit iffy on whether in Real Life they existed.
    • Robin Hood is a bit iffy since some historians argue whether he existed or he was actually a collective identity composite of deeds of multiple people. In-Universe, Robin Hood did exist.
    • Himiko is recorded in Chinese and Korean historical records as the queen of the Yamatai Kingdom of ancient Japan, but Japanese historical records have no one that comes close to corresponding to her exactly. Japanese historians and archaeologists aren't even sure if Yamatai existed and if it did where it was in Japan.
    • A different issue concerns Sanzo, who is known in China as Xuanzang and was certainly a real person, but Sanzo Damashii's powers stem from the fictionalized depiction of Xuanzang in the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West.
  • Historical In-Joke: A lot of their focus episodes are this and Plot Parallel with the real-world luminaries’ actual lives.
    • Ryoma’s involves making a deal between two unreasonable men (Ryoma famously brokered a similar pact, the Sat-Chin Alliance).
    • Houdini’s involves a girl wanting to see her late father again. Houdini’s crusade against hoaxers was motivated by a desire for a genuine spiritualist to let him talk to his mother again.
    • The Grimm Brothers involve two brothers reaffirming their bond over how one introduced the other to his passion, like Jacob did to Wilhelm.
    • Sanzo’s has an idol with three friends in a touring pop group. Sanzo travelled the land accompanied by three followers.
    • Billy the Kid’s has a police officer betray his best friend and set him up to be imprisoned. The real Billy’s best friend was a sheriff, who shot him dead.
  • Plot Coupon That Does Something: Collecting all fifteen of them and having an appropriate Driver grants you one wish. After wishing, all fifteen scatter and can be collected again. Individually, they allow a rider to access the abilities and powers of the person.
  • Powers via Possession: They grant powers and abilities based on those they had in life to those who let them possess them with a Driver.
  • Sentient Phlebotinum: Thus why they're on this page. They have sapience of their own and have even aided Takeru of their own accord. Justified since they all used to be human before they were Ghost Eyecons.
  • Spirit Advisor: Rather literal. However they do give Takeru and Makoto advice on occasion, and throughout the series are tied to people that share attributes with them. In the beginning, this was a plot point as Takeru needed a person that idolized a luminary to be able to summon them. And during the "Connection" arc, they impart lessons for Takeru to take to heart.

    • Musashi: Trust in your allies and believe in them when they do something, but if they need help, give it.
    • Edison: Anything worth doing isn't likely to be easy, but don't give in when things grow difficult.
    • Robin: People define what's right differently, and it's wrong to force your ideals on them, despite your beliefs.
    • Benkei: Never forget you have loved ones that care about you. Don't ignore their advice, or concerns as you push forward.
    • Newton & Himiko: Those that are different might fight or disagree, but they can come together when it counts, and are stronger for it.
    • Goemon: If there's something that needs to be done, don't overthink it, just do it. Listen to your heart.
    • Houdini: Instead of holding onto regrets, live the life you have, while you have it.

01 Musashi

First Appearance: Awaken! Self!
Swords Swinging! Blades Ringing! It's the master swordsman!note

  • Big Damn Heroes: Leads Takeru's other Parka Ghosts to aid Takeru against a Gundari.
    • As the series progresses, he does this often.
  • Dual Wielding: His Gan Gun Saber mode.
  • Finishing Move: Omega Slash
  • Glass Cannon: Musashi gives the wielder improved physical stats, speed, and great close range abilities, but has no defense, is terrible and long range, and is weak to electrical attacks.
  • Red Is Heroic
  • Spirit Advisor: Takeru's. In fact he was the one that summoned Musashi, due to his idolization of his warrior's spirit. Now, understanding that is it any surprise that whenever Takeru's in trouble, Musashi is typically the first hero on scene to help?
    • In #46, he even appeared in his human form to assist Takeru in dealing with his doubts.
  • The Power of Friendship: Believes in this. Takeru having faith in Makoto and aiding him when needed is what ultimately drives Musashi to connect his soul to the young Rider.

02 Edison

Electrical Inspiration, The King of Inventionnote

  • Awesome by Analysis: Edison's intelligence passes onto those wearing his Parka as this. Takeru got the idea to use the Gan Gun Saber's gun mode when the light bulb on his mask got charged.
  • Awesome Ego: Most of his smack talk during battle amounts to "I'm Edison and you're not." All in Gratuitous English, of course.
  • Elemental Absorption: He can absorb electricity and use it in his Omega Shoot, as the Denki Gamma found out, the hard way.
  • Finishing Move: Omega Shoot
  • Funny Foreigner: For some reason, most of the Eyecons aren't from Japan, but only this guy gets the KyoryuCyan accent.
  • Gratuitous English: He seems to have a habit of saying "I'M EDISON!" to practically everyone. At times it almost verges on Pokémon Speak.
  • Lightning Gun: Prefers to use his weapons in gun modes to shoot out electricity.
  • Magic Knight: As his parameters did not decrease as much and is equipped with a weapon, he is a better overall fighter compared to the other Squishy Wizard Beethoven.
  • Shock and Awe: Given that he is the inventor of many electrical devices, light bulb included, this is to be expected.
  • Squishy Wizard: He is physically weaker than Ore Daimashii all around, but makes up with his powerful Lightning Gun.

03 Robin Hood

Hello Arrow! Into the Woods we go!note

  • Doppelgänger Attack: Channelling the spirits of the Merry Men, Robin's Omega Drive lets him do this.
  • Energy Bow: The Gan Gun Saber in Arrow Mode fires energy arrows drawn by this.
  • Finishing Move: Omega Strike
  • Fragile Speedster/Jack of All Stats: Robin Damashii has increased parameters and boosts more balance and speed for Ghost, but it doesn’t have the raw strength of Musashi or Newton, and if its arrows or Omega Attacks fail to make an impact, Ghost has no other defense to rely on.
  • Friendly Sniper: Robin's main power. His shots are precise, and can pierce through targets, more so than Edison's stronger shots and Billy's rapid ones.
  • Green and Mean: While certainly not mean, his Parka is a dazzling emerald green.
  • Grey-and-Gray Morality: Aware or this. He warned Takeru that the justice isn't the same thing for everyone.

04 Newton

First Appearance: Surprise Future (actual) Amazing! The Castle in the Sky! (in series)
Apple Falls From Tree! It's Down to Gravity!note

05 Billy the Kid

Every Bullet Hits its Mark! Gunpowder Flash and Spark!note

  • Finishing Move: Omega Impact
  • Fragile Speedster: Billy The Kid Damashii speed increases even further than Robin Damashii, but his individuals shots do not do much damage and while doing rapid fire, Ghost must dodge and maneuver to compensate for its low defense and weight.
  • Guns Akimbo: Wouldn't be the Kid otherwise.
  • The Gunslinger: He can either dual wield the Gan Gun Saber and Bat Clock in their Gun Modes or combine them into the former's Rifle Mode, the latter of which is exclusively his.
  • More Dakka: Billy's main power. He's about as accurate as Robin, but can fire off MANY more shots. Best used either against multiple foes or to overwhelm a single one.

06 Beethoven

First Appearance: Destiny! Reviving Melody!
Symphony! Destiny! DA-DA-DA-DUN!note

  • Double Meaning: His Driver's voice on "Destiny" can either mean his work with the same name or refer to his Screw Destiny.
  • Musical Assassin: Beethoven's power. He can create musical notes that he either attacks or defends with.
  • Screw Destiny: He lost his hearing, and still became one of the best composers and pianists that the world's ever seen. Pointing that out was how a musician snapped out of Dead Artists Are Better mindset.
  • Squishy Wizard: Like Edison, he has inferior Ability Parameters in comparison to Ore Daimashii making him rely on his magic music.
  • The Un-Favorite: Music-based forms in toku are rarely used. As such, Beethoven is Ghost's least used form, having appeared less than every other Damashii thus far.

07 Benkei

First Appearance: Imposing! A Man of Loyalty!
Intimidating Sworn Brother! Tougher Than Any Other!note

  • The Big Guy: Benkei's main power. He's Ghost's strongest Damashii, allowing him to withstand any foe's hits.
  • Finishing Move: Omega Bomber
  • Mighty Glacier: Has the most sheer strength of any of Takeru's base eyecons. To note: the official stats list Benkei as having already had stronger punching force than Toucon Boost! Boost Benkei dwarfs the punching power of the other Toucon Boost exclusive forms. But on the flip side, using this form handicaps Kamen Rider Ghost's agility.
  • Storm of Blades: His Omega Bomber can summon weapons Benkei used in real life and shoot it to his enemy.
  • Undying Loyalty: A literal example. Even his Driver call mentions both it and his friend for whom he made his Last Stand.

08 Goemon

First Appearance: Daring! A Free Man!
The Kabuki of Awe! Breaking The Law!note

  • Glass Cannon: Out of the three Toucan Boost Damashiis, Goemon improves Ghost’s speed and attack strength. Its the strongest of the Toucan Boost forms, but lacks defensive power and range.
  • Large Ham: Possibly a bigger one than Onari.
  • Reverse Grip: How he holds the Sunglassslasher in Sword Mode.

09 Ryoma

Awaken, Japan! A New Day at Hand!note

Ryoma: (together with Takeru): Our lives shall burn bright!
  • Jack of All Stats: Ryoma Damashii is the most balanced of the three Toucan Boost forms as Ghost abilities improve overall and he can use either Ryoma’s duel tactics of close combat or long ranger with the Sunglasslasher.
  • Meaningful Name: His Persona is called the Persona Dreamer. What has he done in his real life and in-series? See below.
  • Nice Guy: Ryoma enjoys helping others realize their dreams, as that's what he fought for while he was alive. It's fighting for someone else's that drives him to connect his soul to Takeru's.
  • Samurai: Ryoma grants his skills in both swordplay and gunplay to those wearing his Parka.
  • Verbal Tic: "Ze yo".

10 Himiko

Future Seeing Eye! The Queen From Yamatai!note

  • Lady of War: A queen, but not afraid to be in the midst of battle. Further she has extremely graceful movements, as well as great mystical power.
  • Larynx Dissonance: In her Eyecon / Ghost Parka form
  • Magical Girl Warrior: A fire commanding, sword wielding priestess. That's got to count.
    • To wit: She's able to break enemy enchantments, overtake them, and redirect them back onto opponents. Also, her Omega Drive traps the foe in a dimension made of her power before she channels it into several burning slashes.
  • Playing with Fire: Himiko's main power comes from her ability to manipulate fire due to her abilities as a priestess. Seeing as how Toucon Boost's element IS fire…well, you can see where we're going with this.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: Himiko's Parka appears elegant and her Persona is a pair of sakura petals for it's eyes. However, don't underestimate her, as she's among the fifteen for a GOOD reason.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Newton, due to her being a woman of spiritualism, and him being a man of science. In episode 19, they set aside their differences to help Takeru beat Igor.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only female among the fifteen. Her Parka color? Pink, of course.
  • Squishy Wizard: Himiko gives Ghost an insane amount of diverse offensive functions, although its physical parameters are the weakest of the three Toucan Boost forms.

11 Tutankhamun

First Appearance: Shock! Mystery Kamen Rider!
Triangular Pyramids! Do As the Pharaoh Bids!note

  • Big Damn Heroes: Helps to rescue Makoto, along with Nobunaga, and Houdini.
  • Finishing Move: Omega Fang
  • Fragile Speedster: Tutankhamun has low body armor and strength, which requires Specter to use the Gan Gun Hand to mitigate that. However, with the Gan Gun Hand in Sickle Mode, and combined with his faster speed, he can attack his opponents with rapid fast attacks.
  • Kid Hero: Compared to the other Heroic Eyecons he died very young at about 19 years old. When we finally hear him speak in episode 25 he sounds notably younger than any other Heroic Ghost heard before him.
  • Pyramid Power: His Omega Fang summons the Pyramid that can warp any poor victims who get hit into Pocket Dimension of dead and kills them.
    • Also seems to be his main power, as in #32 he manages to reverse the Time Ganmizer's power with his arcane magic.
    • Artistic License – History: While forever symbolic of Egypt, pyramids, especially as burial sites for pharaohs, had been obsolete for centuries by Tutankhamun's time, being easy targets for tomb robbers. Furthermore, Tut is represented in a man of his prime, despite having died as a sickly teen, and he never really accomplished much in his nine-year reign (The restoration of the old pantheon following the Aten cult is arguable). One could argue that Tut is more of a representation of ancient Egypt as a whole instead of simply the short-lived Pharaoh himself.
  • Sinister Scythe: His Gan Gun Hand mode, when combined with the Cobra Cellular.

12 Nobunaga

First Appearance: Shock! Mystery Kamen Rider!
My Conquering Drama! Victory at Okehazama!note

  • Big Damn Heroes: Helps to rescue Makoto, along with Tutankhamen and Houdini.
  • Finishing Move: Omega Spark
  • Glass Cannon: Nobunaga grants Specter increased battle knowledge, stronger punching power, and stronger shots with the Gan Gun Hand, but weaker defenses and speed
  • Purple Is Powerful: Royal purple, to be precise.
  • More Dakka: His Omega Spark, which summons transparent Gan Gun Hands in Gun mode to shoot alongside him.
  • The Smart Guy: Nobunaga's main power. As a renowned tactician he revolutionized rifle tactics in his life, and carries over both his skills there as well as his battle knowledge with anyone wearing his Parka.

13 Houdini

Any Trick you Envision! The Master Magician!note

  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Doesn't believe in the supernatural, in spite the fact that Takeru and himself are ghosts, and he just possessed someone while proclaiming this. Justified since the real Houdini was known to bust supernatural Hoaxes.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Helps to rescue Makoto, along with Nobunaga, and Tutankhamen. When Takeru nearly get killed in Gamma world, it's Nobunaga who came out of the Eyecon Driver and fight against Gammanizer.
  • Blue Is Heroic: A deep navy blue, in fact.
  • Chained by Fashion: Not only in his design, but his Omega Drive chains up the foe so Specter can finish it off with a drill kick.
  • Escape Artist: The one and only! Also one of his abilities, as Specter can vanish from any confinement in a flourish of confetti.
  • Flight: His other ability is transforming the Machine Hoodie into the Flight Unit, which can become either a sort of gyro-pack or a gyro platform depending on how Specter's using it at the time.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Out of the 15 Damashii, Houdini is a master of all trades. With either Ghost or Specter, the user can fly and use magic tricks to elude and evade, the armor gives him powerful defense and weight, and is second only to Toucan Boost and Benkei in power before the Mid Season Upgrades

14 Grimm

Fighting Pen! (While under Necrom's control)

15 Sanzo

Road to the West! (While under Necrom's control)

  • Brainwashed and Crazy: As with Grimm, Sanzo is forced to obey Necrom. At least until Alain lost the ability to force them.
  • Cool Crown
  • Enemy Summoner: Heroic variant, except for while he's under Necrom's control initially. One of the form's powers include summoning spectral versions of Sanzo's three disciples, either as a distraction or for a combination attack.
  • Gold and White Are Divine: Indeed.
  • Mighty Glacier: Sanzo grants Necrom more strength and defense, has a weapon for long range, but becomes much slower. However, through Alain’s Took a Level in Badass, he can now summon Wukong, Bajie and Wujing at will to fight with him
  • Rings of Death: The giant ring that is attached to Sanzo can be removed to be used as a weapon.

    Great Eye

Great Eye

Voiced by: Yui Fujimaki

  • Back from the Dead: Is quite capable of doing this and does to resurrect Kanon.
  • Benevolent Genie: If you've got a functioning Ghost Driver at least. It even takes you to a dimension to make your wish and prevents outside interference before returning you safely. And grants Takeru's wish to revive Kanon without any catch.
    • When Takeru chooses to revive those killed by the Great Eyezer instead of reviving himself like he promised Akari, the Great Eye grants his wish but before it leaves, it revives Takeru after being impressed by his selfless actions.
  • But Now I Must Go: After granting Takeru's wish to restore those erased by the Great Eyezer, the Great Eye disappear into outer space.
  • Do Not Taunt Cthulhu: Trying to make a wish on it without a functioning Ghost Driver won't end well. Just ask Saionji. The Gundari that tried to interfere with Takeru's wish ended up getting sent flying with no effort.
  • Eldritch Abomination: The thing is a massive golden rune with an eye at its center and has the power to grant any wish.
  • Make a Wish: Is summoned when all 15 Heroic Eyecons are gathered and invoked before the Monolith.

  • Fusion Dance: During the Final Battle, after absorbing the powers of the Raphael and Michelangelo Gammas, he transforms into a massive Renaissance Gamma.

  • Killed Off for Real: He is destroyed by a Combination Attack from Kamen Rider Ghost Toucon Boost Damashii and Kamen Rider Drive Type Tridoron.
  • The Slow Path: Decides to wait 10 years for Takeru to grow up so he could get the Eyecons he would collect rather than just beat him then and there.

Kamen Rider Ghost: The 100 Eyecons and Ghost's Fateful Moment

    Argos/Kamen Rider Dark Ghost

Argos/Kamen Rider Dark Ghost/Kamen Rider Extremer

Portrayed by: Ryo Kimura (live), Yasuhiko Imai (suit)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/argos.jpg

Adonis' first son, who died from an unknown illness many years ago before the series starts. Just like Takeru, he revived as a ghost and given a Ghost Driver and the Dark Ghost Eyecon by the Hermit as Kamen Rider Dark Ghost. His primary goal is to collect 100 heroic Eyecons to create an ultimate Ghost Eyecon belt known as Extremer Driver. It can awaken an entity known as Kamen Rider Extremer, who will allow him to transform the world into one filled with ghosts. He eventually wears said Driver and transform into Kamen Rider Extremer himself.

Tropes that apply to him in general

Tropes exclusive to him as Kamen Rider Dark Ghost

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krgh_dark_ghost.png
Kaigan: Dark Rider! Yami no Chikara, Warui Yatsura!
  • Evil Counterpart: Of Kamen Rider Ghost. His Dark Damashii appearance is analogous to Ghost's Ore and Toucon Boost Damashii.
  • Obviously Evil: His driver announcement, "Yami no chikara! Warui yatsura!" literally comes out to "The power of darkness! The bad guy!" It doesn't even hide Argos' alignment as it's declaration isn't even "Dark Ghost" but instead "Dark Rider". (Near the end of the series, when Edith uses the Dark Ghost suit, that part's skipped.)

Tropes exclusive to him as Kamen Rider Extremer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kr_extremer_8.png
  • Evil Counterpart: To Mugen by virtue of being Dark Ghost's final form, and to Grateful for how he gets it and the fact that it requires a separate, Eyecon-themed belt.
  • Fusion Dance: An unwilling one. To access it, Dark Ghost had to fuse the power of one hundred Eyecons together into the Extremer Driver.
  • Horned Humanoid: Extremer has a gigantic horn on his helmet, bigger than any of the other Riders'!
  • In the Hood: Par for the course with Ghost at this point
  • One-Winged Angel: His cape can open up to reveal peacock-like eyes.

    Daigo Fukami/Kamen Rider Zero Specter

Daigo Fukami/Godai/Kamen Rider Zero Specter

Portrayed by: Ikki Sawamura (live), Yugo Fujii (suit)

Makoto and Kanon's long-lost father, who leaves his children without saying why. Unknown to them, he was entrusted by Sennin as Argos' guide. Just like Takeru and Argos, he is resurrected by Hermit after being slain by a Gamma Ultima. He is granted a Ghost Driver and the Zero Specter Ghost Eyecon to become Kamen Rider Zero Specter.

Tropes that apply to him in general

  • Disappeared Dad: He is Makoto and Kanon's father, who abandoned his children after his wife's death.
  • Happily Adopted: He adopts Makoto and Kanon as his own after rescuing them from experiments by Danton.

Tropes exclusive to him as Kamen Rider Zero Specter

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kamen_rider_zero_specter.png
  • Horned Humanoid: Instead of Ghost's whispy single horn and Specter's two curved horns, Zero Specter has three horns.
  • Purple Is Powerful: In contrast with Specter's blue, his Zero Damashii appearance consists of purple and black as his main colors.

A mysterious man who is eventually revealed to be one of the co-creators of the Gamma World alongside Adonis and Eadith, and more importantly, Makoto's true father. Hard-headed but ultimately well-intentioned, he attempts to remodel the citizens of the Gamma world to improve their society, no matter the cost.

  • Affably Evil: Knight Templar he may be, but he's so jovial and passionate that you can't help but like him.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Had no problem being struck down by Sin Specter, especially with how amazed he is at Makoto.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: He is revealed to be Makoto's father. In fact, he's his creator, since Makoto and Kanon are his experiments.
  • Mad Scientist: His attempts to change the Gamma world involved a lot of experiments on the public and on his own test guinea pigs.
  • Named After Someone Famous: He is named after Georges Danton, a prominent political figure during the The French Revolution. The remnants of his faction in Ghost x Saber and Specter x Blades are also named after other political figures in the Revolution — Robes is to Maximillien Robespierre, Kamiyu's name comes from Camille Desmoulins, and Muller's derived from Jean-Paul Marat.
  • So Proud of You: Spends his final moments telling Makoto this.

    Chloe

Chloe

Portrayed by: Aya Marsh

Danton's adoptive daughter.

  • Genki Girl: Quite a cheery individual to say the least.
  • Undying Loyalty: Chloe is unquestionably loyal to her surrogate father, even standing against those who defy him, so much that his death greatly affected her until Takeru cheered her up.
