The Dynamen

    Hokuto Dan/Dyna Red

    Ryuu Hoshikawa/Dyna Black

Ryuu Hoshikawa/Dyna Black | Actor: Junichi Haruta

  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: Both Ryuu and Kanpei Kuroda are the second-in-command black rangers of their respective teams. While Kuroda is a more serious foil to Kenichi Akama, Ryuu is a comedic and cheerful foil to Hokuto Dan. For added bonus, both Ryuu and Kanpei are played by the same actor.
  • Highly-Visible Ninja: Even when he's black colored, he... is a rather Large Ham. And then there's his element below...
  • Holy Hand Grenade: Black Star Flash
  • The Lancer: Downplayed more than most, but he's more cheerful in contrast to Hokuto's responsible and fearless personality.
  • Large Ham: For a ninja, he sure isn't that quiet and sneaky. In fact, he's quite comical, likes cheering things up.
  • Ninja
  • The Smart Guy: An astronomer and expert in ninja arts.
  • Super Mode: Downplayed. Battle Tector isnā€™t used as such, but is officially considered the Trope Codifier for Super Sentai.

    Rei Tachibana/Dyna Pink

Rei Tachibana/Dyna Pink | Actress: Sayoko Hagiwara

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rei_tachibana_ep1.jpg

  • Action Girl: While all Sentai heroines are this, Rei is the first one to be an aggressive front line warrior with a fighter's background rather than rely on agility, trickery or explosives (though she's skilled with those too) as Rei was a champion fencer even before she became Dyna Pink.
  • Brown Note: Pink Shocking Melody
  • Establishing Character Moment: Right off in the first episode, she introduces herself by forcing herself into Hokuto's motor backseat and had him hurry up and reach the monster terrorizing innocents so she can help them.
  • Lady of War: Rapier-like saber and a shield. Quite the typical Lady of War arsenal.
  • Master of Disguise: Like most Pink Warriors Rei has this talent, but unlike the typical use of a single episode devoted to her using several disguises each of her focus episodes have her pick a single one and stick with it for the rest of the episode (A bride, a clown, a tennis player etc)
  • One of the Boys: Played with as Rei is in fact pretty girly, is skilled at dressing up and using make up to pull off the typical Sentai heroine disguise gimmick, is very graceful and elegant and enjoys pretty things like flowers and wedding dresses and even says she hopes to be someones bride some day. On the other hand though the only friends Rei seems to have that are around her own age are the other male Dynamen. She was the only female member of the team and unlike the previous teams the Dynaman didn't have female agents or supporting friends for Rei to hang out with off duty like Peggy Akira and Miki did. So she ends up living with and spending most of her time associating with a bunch of guys and doesn't seem to mind extensively exercising with or sleeping in the same room as them. And said guys laugh at the idea of her becoming someone's wife because she's an "unmarriagable tomboy" and don't seem particularly attracted to her. Most of the show descriptions of this time (which can come off as somewhat dated in the current era) also describe her to have a "Masculine heart"
  • The Smart Girl: An animal scientist.
  • The Smurfette Principle: She's the only female member of the team.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Her scientific goal is to communicate with Animals.

Jashinka Empire

    Emperor Aton

Emperor Aton | Voiced by: Takeshi Watabe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/emperor_aton.jpg

  • Big Bad: The ruler of the Jashinka and the one leading their conquest.
  • The Emperor: It's his title, though unlike other Emperors in Sentai, he uses different characters and pronunciation for his title.
  • Evil Overlord: The tyrannical ruler of a race of lizard people seeking to wipe out humanity.
  • Fantastic Racism: Sees humanity as weak and inferior to the Jashinka for not having any tails.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: His reaction after Kar dies and realizes he was never a traitor, naming him a hero to the Empire in his funeral.
  • The Proud Elite: Enforces a strict hierarchical society based on the number of tails, and believes himself to be superior to all for having 9 tails.
  • So Proud of You: After being bested by his son and having his tail elitism proven wrong, he names Megiddo as the new ruler of the Jashinka Empire alongside Chimera before dying.
  • The Unfought: The Dynamen never get a proper showdown against him, with him being instead killed by the Dark Knight aka Megiddo.
  • Villainous Friendship: With his Number Two, General Kar. Kar sees Aton as a great leader while Aton, in turn, respects Kar's loyalty and considers him a valuable subordinate.
  • You Have Failed Me: After being convinced to by Zenobia, he chops off all of his sons tails and banishes him for being useless.
    Prince Megiddo (Unmarked Spoilers)

Prince Megiddo/Dark Knight | Actor: Takeki Hayashi

Click here to see Dark Knight

  • Anti-Hero: As the Dark Knight. He assists the Dynamen at multiple points, but is a Nominal Hero only looking to get revenge against Aton.
  • Bad Guys Do the Dirty Work: He ends up being responsible for killing off most of the Jashinka in his campaign of vengeance, leaving only himself and Chimera to be dealt with afterwards.
  • Black Knight: As the appropriately named Dark Knight", he wears all black and resembles an Evil Twin of the Dynamen.
  • The Brute: He's the main enforcer and most arrogant henchman of Aton. However, he's also the most incompetent villain at first.
  • The Chessmaster: As the Dark Knight, at multiple points he plays the Dynamen and Jashinka against each other as part of his plan to get back at Aton and Zenobia. By the penultimate episode he's offed all his rivals and earned himself rule of the Jashinka in quite the spectacular way.
  • Conquering Alien Prince: He wants to Take Over the World to make his father proud, but later decides to do it out of his own pride.
  • The Dragon: He's the lead commander of Jashinka army and acts as his father's enforcer.
    • Dragon Ascendant: After besting his father in a duel, he is named the new Emperor of Jashinka and becomes the Big Bad of the final episode.
  • Faceā€“Heel Revolving Door: Goes from The Dragon and The Rival to an Anti-Hero to the Dragon Ascendant and Final Boss.
  • Good Costume Switch Zig-Zagged. After becoming an Anti-Hero he dons an all black suit, which ironically makes him look more sinister than he did as a member of the Jashinka. After becoming The Emperor however, he ditches his suit for new attire, so he was ironically the most evil looking when he was the most heroic.
  • The Rival: Has one with Dyna Red, cemented when Hokuto chops off one of his tails in the first episode.
  • Shout-Out: His black suit as the Dark Knight was based on Hakaider.
  • Sibling Rivalry: A variant. He has a shaky relationship with his cousin Chimera.
  • Smug Snake: He's obnoxious, arrogant and has a clearly inflated ego given his numerous defeats by the Dynamen. Subverted after he becomes the Dark Knight, at which point he becomes a legitimately serious threat.
  • Took a Level in Badass: As Megiddo he's a borderline-Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain. As the Dark Knight, he's a powerful Wild Card and Chessmaster who successfully pulls a Dragon Ascendant.
  • True Final Boss: After knocking off both Zenobia and Aton to become Emperor, he decides to go forward with conquering Earth and becomes the last opponent the Dynaman have to face.
  • Walking Spoiler: It is hard to hide the fact that Megiddo is the Dark Knight once his true identity is revealed.
  • Warrior Prince: He's the prince of the Jashinka and goes into battle quite frequently.
  • Wild Card: Particularly when he becomes the Dark Knight, as he helps out the Dynamen on quite a few occasions before revealing his true identity.
    General Kar

    Princess Chimera

Princess Chimera | Actress: Mari Kouno

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dyna_vi_chimera.jpg
  • The Dragon: To Megiddo in the finale, being named as such by Aton before dying.
  • Hot Witch: She's a witch and also quite attractive, which the show emphasizes at several points.
  • Lady in Red: Her default costume is red.
  • Ms. Fanservice: One episode has her strip down to a bikini. Another has her clothes stolen and her fully naked.
  • Rebellious Princess: Isn't afraid to speak her mind and frequently feuds with her cousin Megiddo.
  • Shaking the Rump: #8, her debut, offers a close-up shot of her shaking her booty as she flaunts her tail.
    General Zenobia

General Zenobia | Actress: Ritsuko Fujiyama

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/002_c4c16_thumbnail2.jpg

  • Big Bad Wannabe: She's a legitimately competent threat and comes close to achieving her goals but she ends up just being an Unwitting Pawn of the Dark Knight in his scheme to get back at his father.
  • Dark Action Girl: She's a dangerous fighter, especially in comparison to her predecessor Megiddo.
  • Dragon with an Agenda: Becomes this to Emperor Aton after he fires Megiddo.
  • Enemy Mine: Forms one with the Dark Knight to take out Aton. Subverted when the Dark Knight offs her also by rigging the machine set to give her ten tails to kill her.
  • Evil Will Fail: Her only lust for power ends up being her undoing as she learns too late that gaining ten tails would result in instant death, which Dark Knight knew all along.
  • Expy: Of Amazon Killer, being a powerful Dark Action Girl who joins the villains halfway through.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Unsealing her was this, as she was a powerful threat and had previously schemed to overthrow Aton.
  • Sixth Ranger: Joins the Jashinka about two thirds of the way through, but quickly bumps her way up to being The Dragon.
  • The Starscream: Was previously imprisoned for attempting to overthrow Aton. After she's freed she tries to again but goes about it more subtly.
  • Stripped to the Bone: All that's left of her after she dies thanks to Dark Knight's machinations.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Though she believed they were in an alliance, the Dark Knight was just using her to get revenge against Aton and she winds up dead as well thanks to his machinations.
    Tail Soldiers
  • Mooks: The Jashinka Empire's fighting force.
