    Grace's Parents

Huxley and Cecilia Monroe

“They’re not parents or royalty. They’re assholes plain and simple.”
Grace Monroe

Appears in: Seeker of Crocus (Debut, First Appearance: Routine Arc - The Pond Car)

Huxley and Cecilia Monroe, Grace's father and mother respectively. They are ambassadors and have been separated from their daughter for the past eight years. Unfortunately, the time apart hasn't taught them a single thing.

  • 0% Approval Rating: After Grace vanished, and their bitchy attitudes demanding answers about her and denying that they could be the reasons for Grace's actions, no one wants to be associated with them.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: At least Grace's parents were decent enough to be worried for her and then devastated at her death in the original trilogy. Meanwhile, these two not only blatantly disregard Grace's opinions and make it clear they could care less if she was safe or not, but they even disown her at her lowest point just to spite her.
  • Adaptational Karma: Neither of them got any punishment for their abusive and neglectful actions in canon. Their Blossomverse counterparts don't get as much karma, barring that they have a completely emotionless marriage and their daughter is dead. These counterparts get held hostage by Elipzo and are forced to see how their daughter has become the "baddest bitch on the Infinity Train" and are forced to work at minimum wage jobs while knowing that Grace's days are numbered and that if they ever try to confess this, not only will anyone not believe them, but their reputation will be completely destroyed when it was revealed that it was their abusive attitude is the reason why she vanished.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Upon learning how they cemented Grace's punishment via execution, they beg Emile that they will do and pay any price to see their daughter safe and sound. By the time Grace learns about their predicament in Act 2, Elipzo has forced them to work at their restaurant, much to Grace's delight.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Is the Train not coming for these two or is Emile gaslighting them so they don't try to escape and find a way to save their daughter from her death?
  • "Ass" in Ambassador: They're ambassadors and they're also jerks who don't see their daughter as a person.
  • Awful Wedded Life: There's nothing good about their life ever since their daughter ran away, as they sit separated across a dinner table and they hate each other.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Huxley wants his daughter to be punished for her crimes. And what's the worst punishment you get for killing others? Execution.
  • Break the Haughty: Not only do they learn just how much trouble their daughter has caused, they are now kidnapped and will be forced to see a cult murder her while thousands of denizens cheer Elipzo on. By the time they appear in Act 2, they're forced to work for Elipzo in their café, much to Grace's utter delight.
  • Composite Character: They hold a bit of Blossoming Trail Chloe Cerise in the hopes that they want Grace to come back to beg for their forgiveness for all the shit she did while not even bothering to improve themselves over the situation.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Want their daughter to be punished for her atrocities and never accepting her mistakes? That's fine. Wanting her dead by thousands of denizens sick and tired of her bullshit? Absolutely not.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Goh's parents. Both parents are dark skinned and black haired and workaholics, but Kurune and Ikuo truly care for their son and did all they could with what little information they had, letting him stay home to search for Mew and are okay with his job as a research fellow. Grace and Huxley could care less about what's going on with their daughter, not going to see a ballet recital or have ice cream with her family. Kurune and Ikuo don't push expectations on Goh but Huxley and Cecelia pushed dance lessons onto Grace. While Kurune and Ikuo have (justified) reasons to hate Chloe, they don't want her dead (if you ignore Ikuo shouting Chloe deserves to drown), while the Monroe parents want their daughter to suffer.
  • Fatal Flaw: Their abusive and parental neglect towards Grace ends up with them incapable of understanding how they're at fault with how Grace was raised, to the point their social circles and family want nothing to do with them anymore.
  • Forced to Watch: During the Routine Arc, they ended up kidnapped and placed in a restaurant called "Eatfinity", run by Elipzo members, and are going to watch as their daughter will be killed in the name of justice with thousands of passengers and denizens wanting this to happen.
  • Hypocrite: They lambast on how Grace is horrible for not realizing her mistakes, while also never realizing that it's their hands-off parenting that's made Grace make those mistakes.
  • Hypocrite Has a Point: That said, Huxley mentions that Grace isn't doing anything to fix her mistakes in the slightest, whereas he was known for being in denial that his and his wife's "parenting" shaped Grace into who she is now.
  • It Runs in the Family: They're both proud, stubborn, and deep in denial of their actions, just like their daughter.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: They're abusive and neglectful parents, but sometimes they're right.
    • Cecilia is being hysterical when she screams at Grace's ear on what's happened to her, but she's not wrong at how Grace's excuses of how her child cult "isn't killing humans" doesn't help get her point across since she'll be seen as a groomer. Not to mention the hot water the family will be in when it's ultimately revealed just where numerous missing children have landed and what they've been doing. She also tells Emile that for all that they weren't good parents, neither she nor her husband taught her to be a serial killer.
    • Huxley points out that if Grace wanted him and Cecilia to see her ballet performance, she could've asked one of her caretakers to record it so they could see it later. It doesn't excuse how the two were constantly negligent of their daughter, but the fact remains that Grace could have done something to meet in the middle.
    • Cecilia coldly telling Grace that she's no longer welcome in their house is cruel, but Grace is 18 at this point, so her parents have the legal right to kick her out.
  • Mama Didn't Raise No Criminal: They are furious when people accuse them of raising a monster, especially since this all started with Grace actually being caught for petty larceny.
  • Morton's Fork: Emile spells it out this way once they are kidnapped: they can call the police and explain the situation by how they are at fault for Grace's kidnapping, thus risking their public image even more or they say nothing and let Grace be killed off and having thousands upon thousands of denizens and passengers cheering for her demise.
Emile: Just think carefully on whether you either risk losing your pride or your daughter. Whatever it is will be the end of the Monroes.
  • Never My Fault: Neither of them admit that it's their bad parenting that got Grace on the Infinity Train to the point that Cecilia is ready to disown her own daughter instead of understanding her point of view.
  • Oh, Crap!: The two have this look when Emile reveals that their confessions on how they hate their daughter and want her punished was livestreamed onto the Infinet and now they will watch as their daughter is to be executed for her crimes.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Their nasty attitudes and the fact that they refused to let Grace take the fall for the petty larceny made people unable to forget how they're jerks.
  • Parents as People: Huxley tries to use this card to Emile in that they couldn't be with Grace all the time due to their jobs. Emile doesn't buy it since they didn't show any love or concern at all.
  • Shadow Archetype:
    • Of Chloe's parents. Chloe's parents were flawed but loved their daughter, learn to make up for their mistakes, and be both firm and loving to what Chloe has done, hoping to see her again to see how much she's grown (with Chloe reciprocating those feelings). These two have no such thing as empathy or realizations that they're just as responsible for Grace's bitchy behavior and blame her for everything instead of working on themselves, hoping that Grace comes home so they can put her down for her stupidity and selfishness (and Grace wishing she'd never see them ever again).
    • Huxley specifically contrasts Professor Cerise. While both are glasses wearing fathers, Cerise truly loved his daughter and his horrified at the idea that he could be seen as an abusive father just because he didn't pay attention to her, whereas Huxley tells Emile to go f— himself and doesn't see anything wrong with what he did. Cerise never denied that something was wrong with his daughter, whereas Huxley didn't let his daughter speak her mind about the stolen bracelet. Cerise did put Chloe in the Institute but never as punishment, but rather as a safe haven to get away from the bullying. Meanwhile, Huxley doesn't care about his daughter's feelings and wants her to be punished.
    • As of Act 2, they're darker counterparts of the Fujihachi parents. While both parents are busy with their work and neglectful with their child, Kurune and Ikuo were not abusive towards Goh and did do their best to raise him. The Monroe parents, on the other hand, were shown to be cold and dismissive of their daughter and wanted to deny that they messed up.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Grace would never be a cult leader, or even on the Train to begin with, if they were much nicer and more concerned parents.
  • When You Coming Home, Dad?: Both parents had lots of work on their hands, meaning that they weren't able to raise Grace properly and had hired helpers take care of her. Unfortunately, this made Grace go to desperate measures to get some attention on her...and all they saw was that she was a troublemaker and to deny that they weren't doing anything wrong.
  • You Have to Believe Me!: This trope gets discussed in the Pond Car. Emile notes that even if the two were able to explain what's going on with their daughter, there's a high chance that no one was going to believe them for two reasons. 1) The stuff surrounding their daughter on a therapy train is too absurd for anyone to hear it. 2) They'd also have to reveal that they are at fault for this, exposing themselves as abusive parents who pushed their daughter to run away from home.

    Ryan and Min-Gi/Chicken Choice Judy

Ryan Akagi and Min-Gi Park

"Train to nowhere/Train to nowhere/Train to nowhere/At least you're there"

Appears in: Seeker of Crocus (Mentioned in Boutique Street Car) | Orchid Observer (Mentioned, First Physical Appearance)

Two childhood friends who boarded the Infinity Train during the eighties. They eventually become a two member band called "Chicken Choice Judy" although they're now retired, and married, in the present day. In Orchid Observer, they are off to a concert in Arizona.

  • Adaptational Badass: Downplayed. Both of them were just normal humans in the show, but Orchid Observer reveals that they're capable of creating some sort of magical energy called "Chord".
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Ryan was known to have been dumped by three girls in the show whereas it's unrevealed what Min-Gi's orientation is. With them both married to each other, Ryan is considered bi and Min-gi is gay.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Both of them were good friends growing up, even born on the same day, and they would eventually marry each other.
  • Cool Old Guy: Both of them are this in the present day as they both entered the Train when they were in their twenties. In contrast, Amelia was around her thirties when she was first picked up.
  • Happily Married: The two tied the knot around a decade prior to the story.Explanation
  • Hero of Another Story: They're the protagonists of Infinity Train Book 4, set during the time Amelia was on the Train and just as she was about to take over as Conductor. According to Omar, their first album is a popular hit on the train and many passengers used the songs to help navigate their own train trips. Their partner, Kez, is known to talk about their adventures from time to time.
  • Official Couple: Omar reveals that they're married, and shows a picture of them on a reunion tour where they kiss to the crowd.
  • Public Secret Message: Their first album, Train to Nowhere, was made as a guide for those who got stuck on the Infinity Train. It's apparently saved many lives.
  • Signature Song: In-universe, "Train to Nowhere" is their most well-known song, to the point that the Windchasers and Red Lotus Uprising first learn about the duo when they hear a radio play it.
  • Twofer Token Minority: Korean-Canadian gay Min-Gi and Japanese-Canadian bisexual Ryan.
  • Unseen No More: Initially referenced in Seeker of Crocus as having left the Train, they finall appear in Orchid Observer having breakfast in Arizona.

    Jesse Cosay

Jesse Cosay

Appears in: Seeker of Crocus (Mentioned in Cyan Desert Car, First appearance: The Palimpsest Car) | Orchid Observer (Debut)

A boy from Arizona who was sent on the Infinity Train and protagonist of Orchid Observer who hopes to find information about the Apex kids to warn their parents.

  • Actor Allusion: Nate compares his brother to Spider-Man. Jesse technically is Spider-Man in another world.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: He had plenty of Ship Tease moments with Lake, but author notes reveal he's asexual.
  • Adaptational Skill:
    • He's learned how to cook as his pumpkin lasanga is praised by his parents, and he helps out at the school cafeteria.
    • He's also gotten praise from a teacher on his artwork and is planning on making a graphic novel about his train trip.
    • He knows about medical procedures, as he talks his dad on how to treat Spencer when he has a seizure (but it's really his robotic body running low on battery.)
    • While he was shown singing once at the beginning of Infinity Train Book 2, apparently he's good enough to land a role in one of his school's productions.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He's a sweet, goofy guy who likes to be friends with everyone at school but he's not a pushover, especially after his own Train trip. He warns his former "friends" that he's not going to let them walk over him anymore.
  • Beyond the Impossible: He and Lake did something that had never happened prior — not only did Jesse go back on the Train to get Lake out, but he also was able to pull a denizen out of the Train and into his world. The power to be granted that miracle is what has him targeted.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He does not like Ethan picking on his little brother. Justified since it was this same bullying that got Jesse on the train in the first place after Nate broke his arm.
  • Commonality Connection: Colette lets her Wartortle team with Jesse because Jesse was part of the swim team at his school.
  • Faux Horrific: He hisses "Blasphemy!" when Lake decides to call herself Lake Van Helsing (see below).
  • Giver of Lame Names: If you ask him to name something, it will always have "Dracula" in it because he finds anything with Dracula in it to be awesome. Lake mentions that all of the animals he met on the Train was named Dracula — Jesse was going to name "Alan Dracula" just "Dracula" until Lake goaded him to try something new — and he was going to call her "Dracula 2" when she got out of the Train. Even after Spencer decides to call them "Team Riconnetersi" (Reconnect in Italian), he mutters that Team Dracula is still better.
  • Good Is Not Dumb: Even though he's a nice and friendly, he's no longer the doormat who entered the Train. He knows that what he's doing is naive, but he's still going to try anyhow.
  • Grew a Spine: When he confronts his old "friends", he lets them know that he's no longer the doormat he used to be and warns them that they can't get away with their bullying ways for long.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: By all means, Jesse is the most normal member of Team Reconnetersi, but Aric says his heart and kindness is his superpower. If he didn't go as far as to go back for Lake, she would've ended up killed by Mirror Cop Sieve. The two of them created a miracle through their friendship.
  • Hero of Another Story: He's the Supporting Protagonist of Infinity Train Book 2.
  • In-Series Nickname: "Mr. Arizona Missing" by his former friend Ethan.
  • I Should Write a Book About This: He's gotten into drawing and was encouraged to make a graphic novel about his adventures on the Train by a teacher which he calls "Travelfriends".
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Him going back to the Train to get Lake out of the Train was a spoiler for the final episode of Book 2.
  • Lovable Jock: He's on his school's swim team and he's known to be very friendly to his fellow classmates.
  • Mirror Character: To Goh. They're both dark haired and dark skinned boys, but Jesse is friendly and sociable at school whereas Goh barely goes to school outside tests. Jesse has many talents in the arts like cooking, drawing and musical theater, while Goh's skills are mostly about Pokémon research, using tech, and having a good throwing arm when it comes to Pokémon. Jesse's main flaw was him being a doormat who doesn't like confrontations, whereas Goh's problem is his lack of social skills and misjudging other people's intentions. Jesse also is known to be into sports, as he's on his school's swim team, while Goh is more focused on academics in Pokémon.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • The title of his graphic novel is called "Travelfriends" as that's what he called himself and Lake when they first met.
    • He hums a bit of the song "Empathy Goes" in Seeker of Crocus. In the original show, the denizens of the Musical Car are singing this very song, which was directed by him.
  • Nice Guy: Just like in the show, he's a friendly guy who is loved by most of his school. Even after learning about the Apex's mission to hurt denizens, the fact that they wanted to tempt him to stay with them forever, and proudly claimed they were going to kill Lake and Alan Dracula without pity, he only feels sorry for them because their parents have no idea what's happened and that they've been missing for so long. Simon is even shocked to hear that Jesse got in contact with his family and calls the Apex a "club" and not a "cult".
  • Oral Fixation: He has a celery stalk in his mouth as he does his research in the prologue of Orchid Observer.
  • Otaku: He's seen Power Rangers Beast Morphers as Colette shouting "Virus eliminated!" reminds him of the show.
  • Real Men Can Cook: The prologue of Orchid Observer reveals that he's learned how to cook and helps out at the school cafeteria to help take over for the lunch lady in his school while she recovers from her train tripExplanation. He also has helped the school cafeteria to making healthier alternatives to food.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: In the Horrorland Car, he's happily riding Colette's Galarian Rapidash, who is a unicorn with a cotton candy mane.
  • Running Gag: He constantly compares Colette's job to that of a Glitch Techs.
  • Skewed Priorities: Jesse is more focused on the phone device on Colette's wrist and not a fountain pen that turned into a sword/gun combo, which Ethan points out.
  • The Team Normal: Compared to the hacker who works in a robotic shell, the mirror reflection with super strength and durability, and the girl whose gun gives her telekinesis, Jesse is the only member of Team Riconnetersi who lacks a special ability.
  • There Are No Therapists: Averted; after his train trip, he goes to a government sponsored program that helps former passengers adjust to getting back to normal life.
  • Turn the Other Cheek:
    • Jesse has every reason to hate Grace and Simon for what they did in the Mall Car — from trying to pressure him to being a bully and even telling him point-blank that they're going to kill Lake and Alan Dracula without remorse — but he's still going out of his way to contact their loved ones to tell them what happened. By Act 2 of Crocus, he succeeded in contacting Simon's mother and sister.
    • Subverted when it comes to his former friends. Jesse wants nothing to do with them since they got his little brother hurt and didn't feel sorry for it.
  • Twofer Token Minority: The only Native American character (from the Apache tribe) who is coded LGBT+ (specifically asexual).

     Lake

Lake (Formerly MT/Mirror Tulip)

Appears in: Seeker of Crocus (Mentioned in Cyan Desert Car, First appearance: The Palimpsest Car) | Orchid Observer (Debut)

A denizen who was once the reflection of a former passenger, free from the Infinity Train and staying at the Cosay residence.

  • Actually Pretty Funny: She can't help but whistle when Colette questions if Ethan's personal chef cooks him something under someone called Chef Boyardee.
  • Adaptational Gender Identity: Female in Infinity Train, considered female non-binary in Orchid Observer.note
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Was depicted as female with Ship Tease from Jesse, but Orchid Observer author notes reveals she's aromantic.
  • Berserk Button: Calling her some derogatory term at your own peril.
  • Bizarre Taste in Food: She can eat burnt toast without complaint although it's unknown if she can actually taste it or not.
  • Brutal Honesty: She's blunt about Jesse's idea of telling the Apex parents on what's going on, stating that this might accidentally cause them to enter the Train in a futile attempt to rescue them.
  • Commonality Connection: She snarks that the only reason that she's partnered with Colette's Yamper is only due to Tulip being partnered with Atticus (as Yamper is a Pokémon based off a corgi).
  • Cuteness Proximity: She tries to deny it, but she finds herself gushing over Colette's Yamper and calling him a good boy.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: She wears a black sleeveless top and has a surly personality, but she's the reason why Jesse Grew a Spine and get off the train after all.
  • Did Not Think This Through: Downplayed, but she internally notes that Mace wasn't wrong about what she was going to do once she got out of the Train. Thankfully, the government has programs for former passengers who she talks to every now and then as a part of therapy and they get information on how the Train works.
  • Eating Optional: She technically doesn't need to eat but the prologue of Orchid Observer has her eating dinner with the Cosays and she has a slice of burnt toast while at ITCH.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Lake dislikes Jesse's friends, but she thinks them running away when Ethan gets sucked into an arcade cabinet is low.
    • She also hates Simon but also notes that she doesn't want him to return to his mom if she ends up being abusive.
  • Happily Adopted: She's treated as an honorary member of the Cosay family, happily eating dinner with them.
  • Hates Being Nicknamed: She does not like nicknames due to her time on the Train having everyone (albeit when Jesse did it, it was done in light teasing and he apologized) give her some derogatory term to highlight that she wasn't a person.
  • Hero of Another Story: She was the protagonist of Infinity Train Book 2.
  • Hidden Depths: She's been getting into Jesse's literature as she calls Spencer Thompson Boo Radley.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Her being in the human world, and actually being her own character, spoils the events of "The Chrome Car" and all of Book 2. Even her name is a spoiler.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: The Dark to Colette's Light. She's surly, abrasive, wears her hair pretty short and dresses in black yet she's known to blush easily and connects closely with Jesse.
  • Mirror Self: She's the reflection of Tulip Olsen.
  • Mythology Gag: She jokes that she wants to call herself "Lake Van Helsing". In the original pilot for Infinity Train, show creator Owen Dennis joked that "Van Helsing" was Tulip's last name.
  • No Last Name Given: Justified in that she was originally the reflection of Tulip Olsen and wouldn't really have a last name to begin with. In Crocus, she jokes that she should just call herself "Lake Van Helsing".
  • Sour Supporter: She has little esteem for Jesse's attempts to contact the parents of the Apex, but she still supports the efforts since the parents should get some answers.
  • Stunned Silence: When Jesse asking her if standing up to Grace and Simon wasn't considered fighting back, she goes silent.
  • Token Non-Human: In Seeker of Crocus, she becomes this for Team Riconnettersi as she's a denizen compared to the human Jesse, Spencer (who is human but walking in a robotic body) and Colette.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The tomboy to Colette's girly-girl due to her fashion sense of a black hoodie with ripped sleeves, combat boots and a shaved head, along with her aggressive no-nonsense fighting style and sarcastic demeanor.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Burnt toast; whether or not she likes it for the taste or the texture is unknown.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: She asks why Ash and the other Trainers don't use fisticuffs to beat the snot out of Rainbow Rocket.

    Nate Cosay

Nate Cosay

Appears in: Orchid Observer (Debut)

Jesse's younger brother.

  • Badass Adorable: He's around Parker's age, but he managed to get two hits in against Eyeclops.
  • Bad Liar: When his mother calls and asks what's going on the arcade, he stammers that things are fine and that he's eating Caesar salad and pizza topped with olives...which his mother knows that he hates.
  • Big Brother Worship: Like in canon, he idolizes his brother and calls him a superhero.
  • Cowardly Lion: He's freaking out over having to fight Eyeclops all by himself, but he is still able to fight back until Spencer's summon arrives to unleash the killing blow.
  • Does Not Like Spam: He has a dislike of Caesar salad and pizza topped with olives. His mother knows something is wrong when he says he suddenly likes the food.
  • Eye Scream: Does this to Eyeclops with a fire-poker, successfully stabbing two of their eyes.
  • Fanboy: He's a huge fan of Spider-Man and compares how he was praised by Sothius to the scene in Iron Man 2 when a young Peter was praised by his idol.note
  • Full-Name Basis: Whitney calls him Nate Elan Cosay when she calls him in regards to CarnEvil suddenly coming to life.
  • Grew a Spine: Despite clearly being scared of Ethan, as Ethan was the reason he got an arm broken, he tells the bully that he's only liked because of his parents' money.
  • Improbable Weapon User: He fights off Eyeclops with a fire poker.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: He immediately gains a friendship with Spencer, who looks like he's a high school senior.
  • Kid Has a Point: When Lake refuses to let Nate hand Spencer's fidget die back due to not seeing him or Colette as trustworthy, Nate brings up multiple points that Colette didn't erase their memories and that keeping secrets isn't the same as being evil, before bringing up the difference between their work being kept secret and the government keeping the Train secret. Lake has no choice but to stand down.
  • Mirror Character: To Parker Cerise, the younger brother of a passenger who got bullied and injured but while Nate was injured prior to Jesse entering the Train, Parker got injured while Chloe is on the Train. Nate proves himself to be brave by fighting off Eyeclops all by himself, whereas Parker has the emotional courage to stand up to bullies and calling out the idiot adults who are afraid of their own shadows.
  • Take That!: Makes a remark that he thinks the Spider-Man musical was garbage.

    Stephan and Whitney Cosay
Jesse and Nate's parents.
  • Good Counterpart: To Grace's parents. They're both loving parents to Jesse compared to Huxley and Cecelia's abusive and neglectful reactions towards Grace.
  • Good Parents: They're supportive of Jesse's endeavors after he left the Train and graciously take in Lake as a member of the Cosays.
  • Hidden Depths: Both Cosays are supporters of Arizona's LGBTQA+ movement, as they mistake Aric's comments of shoving Spencer into a closet the wrong way. Justified since Word of God remarks that Jesse is asexual.

    Jesse's Former Friends

Ethan Rafflesi, Leon, Piers and Luis

Appear in: Orchid Observer (Debut)

Jesse's old "friends" who convince his little brother to go through a dangerous stunt that broke his arm and got Jesse on the Train.

  • Adaptational Intelligence: Ethan was just a stereotypical jock bully and only appeared in a video clip in the canon show. Here, he makes a suggestion that the heroes actually agree with to stop CarnEvil, mentions how he has to study in order to keep his grade point average up, and also knows the meaning of an NDA when Colette asks him to sign one.
  • Adaptational Karma: They presumably got away with the stunt that led to Nate breaking his arm in the show barring the suggestion that Nate telling his mother would've gotten them in trouble. Orchid Observer reveals that the four had to pay for Nate's hospital bills, Ethan was suspended for a week and the four are either at the cusp of expulsion or repeating the entire year if they make one more mistake.
  • Ascended Extra: They only appeared in a video on Jesse's phone in the show, but are minor characters in Orchid Observer.
  • Dirty Coward: Ethan's friends leave him to be sucked into an arcade cabinet. Even Lake calls them out on this.
  • Dope Slap: Luis tries this on Lake by flicking her forehead. It fails due to her being metal. Jesse himself notes that he tried that before.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: When fighting Tokkentaker, Ethan comes up with the idea of Cutting the Knot and kill him with a bomb to end the game early. Everyone else actually agrees. The only reason this fails is because he didn't let Colette get her bombs and went for the first thing he saw. Said thing was the virus that dragged him into the cabinet; her bombs are card shaped.
  • Enemy Mine: He doesn't see eye to eye with Jesse, but Ethan's willing to team up with him to get out of CarnEvil.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Even though they did make Nate go through that manliness challenge that broke his arm, they claimed that didn't go after Nate after he told on them, didn't ruin his stay in the hospital and showed some sympathy when Jesse vanished.
Lake: Okay, we get it! You're actually human beings underneath those crusty exteriors of yours.
    • Ethan may be a bully, but even he knows it's stupid to start arguments with Jesse when they have to fight for their lives in an evil carnival. He also saves Colette from falling off the zeppelin when Tokkentaker kicks her.
  • Flower Motif: Ethan's last name is Rafflesi, based on the rafflesia. A rafflesia is a carnivorous flower that has a sweet smelling nectar to lure in prey, referencing Ethan's Toxic Friend Influence on Jesse.
  • Gang of Bullies: Who they truly are, given how they didn't give a damn on letting Nate get his arm broken from a dangerous stunt and didn't learn anything from it. Downplayed with Ethan, who begrudgingly works with Jesse and leaves him alone after the CarnEvil incident.
  • Genius Bruiser: Ethan may be a Jerk Jock, but his plan to end CarnEvil early is spot on and he mentions reading 1984 since he has to maintain a certain grade point average to be on the team. He also apparently knows what an NDA means.
  • Hated by All: They're not liked at school due to what they did to poor Nate and getting his brother to disappear.
  • Irony: Jesse internally notes that he can't believe he'd find something about Simon (a major bully who looked down Lake) from the guy who got him on the Train in the first place (who is still stuck in his bullying ways).
  • Jerkass: All of them are jerks who don't give a damn at who they pick on. Subverted with Ethan who is willing to work alongside Colette, Lake and Jesse but only temporarily.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Ethan asks Colette why he has to sign an NDA over what happened in the arcade whereas Jesse and Lake aren't given one.
  • Named by the Adaptation: They're never named in the show but gain names for Orchid Observer.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Ethan throws what he thought was a bomb at Tokkentaker...only to reveal that it was actually the virus Colette captured from Deaddy. The virus dragged CarnEvil into the real world as a result.
  • Offscreen Karma: They were only shown in a recording in Jesse's phone in Infinity Train, leaving it up to viewers to decide if they ever got punished for getting Nate injured. Orchid Observer explains straight off the bat that they ended up having to pay for Nate's medical bills and are close to repeating the school year if they don't shape up.
  • Shout-Out Theme Naming: All of them are named after characters from Resident Evil: Ethan is named after Ethan Winters, Leon is from Leon S. Kennedy, Piers is from Piers Nivans and Luis is from Luis Sera.
  • Race Lift: Since the show doesn't give any background on them, the author notes reveals that Leon — who was Ambiguously Brown and wore a purple shirt and cap — is Hindu, whereas Luis — the one with blue-green hair — is Korean.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When Ethan somehow gets pulled into CarnEvil, his friends run away to call the police or the arcade employees.
  • We Used to Be Friends: They and Jesse were friends, before Jesse realized they were actually bullies who took advantage of his kindness that led to the accident that broke Nate's arm and he split away from them.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: Ethan states that the group should just kill Tokkentaker with a bomb and end the game early so and everyone agrees that it's a smart plan. The only reason it doesn't work is because he grabs the virus Colette extracted from Deaddy before she had the chance to say that the bombs she carries are in the shape of cards.

    Tulip Olsen

Tulip Olsen

Appearances: Seeker of Crocus (Mentioned) | Orchid Observer (First physical appearance)

A passenger from Minnesota who ran away from home to head for coding camp and escape the situation involving her divorced parents.

  • Contrived Coincidence: Many characters note how convenient it was that the car she entered just so happened to contain One-One in it and debate as to whether the Train deliberately planned it or not. Tulip even lampshades that she's asked herself this question for a while.
Aric: What are the chances that the car she ended up in would just so happen to have the real Conductor in it? Was it a coincidence? Or was the Train waiting for the right person to pick up to stop the false Conductor before they went over the edge?
  • Hero of Another Story: A former passenger who ended up teaming up with One-One and brought him back to be the true Conductor.
  • Gamer Chick: Outside of her hobby of coding games, she gasps in excitement upon learning how ReFusion has an entire car filled with arcade cabinets.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: She's the passenger who helped return One-One to his role as Conductor, leading to the instruction videos that fully explain what to do, and convinced Amelia to stop rebuilding her past. Not to mention that Lake only came about because Tulip pulled her out of the Chrome Car, so she's also indirectly responsible for getting Jesse out of the Train as well.
  • Missing Reflection: It's not commented on but due to the fact that Lake is Tulip's reflection as her own entity, this means that Tulip herself has no reflection at all.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: She wears glasses and likes coding games.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Without Tulip meeting One-One, Amelia would still be running rampant as the Conductor and the instruction videos wouldn't have been created. And without her letting Lake run free, she would never make it to the real world nor would Jesse be able to figure out his exit so quickly.
  • Spanner in the Works: To Amelia and One-One; Amelia would have continued running the Train and hindering everyone's growth if Tulip didn't end up in the car that happened to host One-One, not to mention One-One wouldn't have returned as Conductor and create his instruction videos if she didn't complain how the Train lacks them.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Just like in the show, she has a love for onions.
  • The Unchosen One: She was never destined for anything great, but rather just wanted to go see the Conductor to get back home. She ends up completely changing the Train because she was partnered with the Conductor.
  • Unseen No More: Frequently mentioned in Seeker of Crocus, she finally appears in Chapter 6 of Orchid Observer.

    Alrich Jimmens (Unmarked spoilers)

Alrich Jimmens

Amelia: He was my white rabbit.

Amelia's former fiancé and the reason why Amelia usurped the Train from One-One.

  • Animal Motifs: Amelia compared him to a rabbit, for being sweet and friendly and on the move.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Any mention of him will spoil Amelia's past so tread with caution.
  • The Lost Lenore: Alrich's death completely broke Amelia to the point that she'd rather make a world where he existed than move on.
  • Posthumous Character: He's been dead for more than thirty years.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: His death is what caused Amelia to enter the Train, disrupt the healing process of thousands of passengers and indirectly led to a cult and the massacre and trauma of hundreds of denizens for the next thirty years.
  • Too Good for This Sinful Earth: A sweet endearing man whose life was tragically cut short.
  • Walking Spoiler: His death is tied to Amelia's journey onto the Train.

    Simon's Family

Eva and Nadia Laurent

Appears in: Seeker of Crocus (The Palimpsest Car; voice only)

Simon's mother and little sister.

  • Big Brother Worship: Nadia loves her big brother, even though Simon hasn't seen her in years and is known on the Train as the co-leader of a denizen-slaying cult. Even after learning about what her brother did, she forgives him and wishes him the best of luck fighting the Train's obstacles.
  • Expy: The co-author states that she pictures Eva from Devil May Cry when she sees Eva Laurent, given that they're blond haired mothers with hearts of gold.
  • Freaky Is Cool: Nadia finds Lake to be awesome in regards to how she killed the Mirror Cops and knows that EarthBound is a game with a "creepy fetus boss".
  • Gamer Chick: Implied by Nadia. When Eva mentions Simon being homesick, Nadia brings up that it's like that RPG with the creepy fetus boss. Eva is an older version as she mentions that Fog Car probably functions like the "game/film" and that Simon must confront his problems before he can move on.
  • Good Parents: Eva is shown to be understanding about Simon's problems and doesn't get mad over all of the stuff he did as the Apex (or at least not as mad as Grace's parents were). Unfortunately, her gentleness wasn't enough to stop Simon from being train-napped in the first place.
  • Insistent Terminology: Nadia calls the Apex a "club". Simon isn't sure if it's because that's the term Jesse used when he told her about the Apex or she's trying not to say "cult".
  • Mama Bear: When kids laughed at Simon for running to his mom after he botched his word in the spelling be, she blew an air siren to make them shut up.
  • Meaningful Name: Eva means "life" and Nadia means "hope", reflecting how they're the reasons why Simon decides to stop being Apex and make things right.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Nadia calls EarthBound the RPG with "the creepy fetus boss" and brings up the Silent Hill movie when Simon talks about the Fog Car.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: They appear in one scene in the Palimpsest Car arc, and Eva has a minor role in Orchid Observer, but it's through them that Simon decides to start working on himself.
  • Struggling Single Mother: Simon tells Grace that after his dad died, his mom ended up like this, not helping that she was pregnant with Nadia at the time.
  • The Voice: They've only been heard in a phone-call in Seeker of Crocus, as Simon doesn't want to see them on facecam at this point. Eva makes a physical appearance in Orchid Observer.

    Edith Finch (Unmarked Spoilers)

Edith Finch

"She got pregnant, went on a trip to reconnect with her family, then came back months later to give birth to a son. Christopher. She put it in her will that we take care of him and that she was to be buried with the rest of her family and that we gave him the journal of her findings when he became of age. And until the day she died, she blamed herself for not doing more for you. For not giving you [Simon] the answers you wanted."
Eva Laurent

Simon's next door neighbor before he got on the Train, whose family is infamous for everyone dying gruesome deaths as if stricken with a curse.

  • Death by Childbirth: She got pregnant and then passed away after giving birth before she even hit her 18th birthday.
  • Devastating Remark: In retaliation for Simon saying that her great-grandmother is at fault for how everyone in the Finch family ends up dead, she snaps back that no one would ever read a story from a boy "who doesn't know how to use spellcheck". Why is this so devastating? Because this was said the night before a spelling bee.note .
  • Girl Next Door: Platonic version. She was Simon's next door neighbor but he never shows any signs of crushing on her (not that it would matter given that she's dead).
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: The fact that she's dead after giving birth to her son at age 17, both of which isn't confirmed until the end of her game.
  • Parting-Words Regret: Until the day she died, she regretted chewing out at Simon.
  • Posthumous Character: She died January 2017 (her gravestone said she was born February 1999) and Book 3 takes place somewhere around 2020.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Having to deal with her mom going through cancer and Simon bluntly pointing out that her great-grandmother is completely at fault for the Finches' lives to go wrong, she snaps at saying no one will read from a boy "who can't use spellcheck". She realizes how horrible it was when Simon disappears a day later...
  • Relative Button: She got angry when a young Simon blamed her great-grandmother for perpetuating the family curse.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: She got in an arguement with Simon after Simon stated that Edith's great-grandmother Edie was mostly at fault for why the Finches died gruesome deaths. Edith snapped back at that, stating how no one was ever going to read from a boy who can't use spell-check. This heavily impacted Simon when he messed up his word at his school's spelling bee and got him on the Train. It also becomes Simon's motivation to meet up with her older brother, Milton Finch.
  • The Storyteller: She was the one who told Simon about the lives of her relatives.
  • Tragic Mistake: In a bout of anger at Simon insulting her dead great-grandmother Edie, she tells Simon that he was a terrible speller...the night before a spelling bee. This ended up causing Simon to mess up and get on the Infinity Train and she never saw him again.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Snapping at Simon that no one will ever read anything from "someone who doesn't know how to use a spell-check" the night before a Spelling Bee is what caused Simon to enter the Infinity Train. Eva stated she heavily regretted this.
  • Walking Spoiler: Not just spoilers from her game, but she's the reason why Simon is on the Train in the first place.

Xochtil City (Rey Mysterio vs the Cosmos)

    Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio

"BOOYAKA!"

Appears in: Seeker of Crocus (Mentioned in Cyan Desert Car, first appearance in Act 1 Intermission) | Rey Mysterio vs the Cosmos (Debut)

A famous luchador who protects his home of Xochtil City from supernatural threats. He is a former passenger on the Infinity Train.

  • Action Dad: Is a father in real life with two children, Dominic and Aalyah, and is capable of kicking ass in and out of the ring.
  • Adaptational Badass: In real life, Rey's a top-tier wrestler and world champion. In the Crocusverse, as he has his Rey Mysterio vs La Oscuridad appearance and abilities, he's considered on a level akin to a superhero.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: He's still the heroic, Friend to All Children Face like in real life, but he has a more serious air to him given his adventure on the Train, everything that went down in Lucha Underground and having to deal with Elipzo/Team Flare's plans, warning Oscar that what's going to happen next isn't like the comic books and movies he's devoured.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Like in real life, he usually is called "Rey-Rey".
  • Animal Eyes: Whatever happened to him on the Train, it left him with serpentine eyes. If The Figure is correct, he's aligned but was able to keep his contract off the Train. Rey himself confirms this in the Crocus Act 1 Intermission.
  • The Artifact: A minor one. His Finishing Move is called "619", the area code for San Diego (his hometown in real life). However, in this fanfic he lives in the fictional Xochtil City, meaning there's no connection to his signature attack.
  • Badass Family: His son, Dominic, is getting wrestling training from El Toro Fuerte and Aerostar mentions how Rey abandoned "his nephew" — Dragon Azteca Jr. — in the Temple.
  • Berserk Button: Do not hurt a child in his presence. Team Flare learns this the hard way.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Rey Mysterio's alignment in wrestling terms is Face and he's commonly portrayed as a Friend to All Children. He also has enough firepower to incinerate Team Flare if you manage to push his Berserk Button.
  • Blade Enthusiast: Aerostar notes that he has a humongous sword collection in his house. Truth in Television, as there are videos of him showing off his numerous swords.
  • Blow You Away: One of his abilities is to summon large gusts of wind with Magarudyne.
  • Blue Is Heroic: His wrestling gear is bright blue and when he uses his powers, he gets glowing blue highlights and eyes. He also can summon blue flames.
  • Burning with Anger: Upon learning that Elipzo stalked Mallow when she was on the Train, when she was five as a reminder, and brainwashed her to make her think that Trains don't exist in Alola, thus making it impossible for her to ever tell others about the Infinity Train and making her unable to see any info online, Rey erupts into blue flames.
    Oscar: Aaah! Not again!
  • Composite Character: Combines his portrayal from Rey Mysterio vs La OscuridadExplanation with his role in Lucha UndergroundExplanation and a bit of his history with WWE.Explanation
  • The Dreaded: Senor Degrada — the boss Celosia and Byrony answer to — considers him this. Given that this is after Rey threatened to sacrifice Team Flare to the gods...
  • Expecting Someone Taller: Most people don't expect a terror on the Train to be a 5 foot luchador turning fifty.
  • Famed In-Story: He's a famous luchador in his home world and has his own series of comic books. He's also targeted by Elipzo as a potential threat and even Indigo is somewhat terrified to have Rey calling him.
  • Feathered Serpent: A recurring motif that Aerostar notices. He sees numerous feathered serpent flags in Rey's house, Rey has a statue of Quetzalcoatal (given to him by El Toro Fuerte who also met up with Quetzalcoatl) and Rey has a double with a blue feathery main and forked tongue. It's revealed in the Crocus Act 1 Intermission that it's because he's aligned with Quetzalcoal. In Act 2, Colette's Dudunsparce — a large snake with wings — ends up being his partner.
  • Friend to All Children: One of his most well known traits and the thought of someone hurting a child is enough for him to let loose.
  • Game-Breaking Injury: Jokes that he's constantly had surgery on his knees to Ash.
  • Hero of Another Story: Was once on the Infinity Train and he has a comic series that details some of his exploits. From what is seen so far, he apparently met up with King Titus of Azada and teamed up with a Jaguar Warrior named Opal and met with a three-headed dragon — the same one whom Kaito partnered back on his train trip. In Seeker of Crocus, he's on the radar of Elipzo.
  • Hypnotic Eyes: Using Quetzalcoatl's powers, Rey can use the ability Hypnotic Wave to put people to sleep. He uses this on Mallow when she suddenly goes crazy and about to stab someone with a knife.
  • I Regret Nothing: Rey tells his double that he does not regret having Oscar learn that he has powers or letting him share in them, stating that he wasn't going to let a child be injured in a serious fight.
  • Irony:
    • Rey got on the Train to avoid being a "sacrifice to the Gods". He ends up off the Train aligned to one.
    • Rey is a luchador and known for his high-flying maneuvers. The Pokémon he gets from Ash are all Ground-types, with Gibile being the most notable. Moreover, while Colette gives him a Pokémon with wings, it's her Dundunsparce, who is incapable of flight.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: It spoils how Rey was sent to a dungeon at the end of Lucha Underground Season 3.
  • Masked Luchador: He's one of the most well-known luchadors in the entire world.
  • Meaningful Name: His name is translated as "King of Mystery" in Spanish.
  • Mirror Character: To Augustine Sycamore; they're characters both associated with blue and act as a Parental Substitute (Augustine to Yuri and Chloe, Rey to Oscar and Lio) and unleash their special abilities by crushing a card in their hands. Sycamore is single (and in his thirties) while Rey (nearing fifty) is married with two children and has an extended family.
  • My Greatest Failure: While on the Train, he couldn't save Angela Orosco from her demons and had to watch her be consumed by flames.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • The comics Lio point out have Rey fighting off against guys like The Legend Killer and The Devil's Favorite Demon.
    • Aerostar sees a photo of Rey with an Aztec headdress, which he wore for his World Heavyweight Championship Triple Threat Match against Randy Orton and Kurt Angle for WrestleMania 22.
    • Zocks finds a photo of him entering a wrestling ring in a low rider, like he did for the 2006 Royal Rumblenote .
    • His ringtone is his first WWE Theme.
  • Nerves of Steel: Whatever his double is, what with the venom and forked tongue, Rey stands firm in how he did the right thing saving Oscar's life by granting his power.
  • Odd Friendship: Or partnership in this case. Rey ends up getting along well with Ash's Gible and Colette's Dundunsparce.
  • Older Than They Look: The narration for Rey Mysterio vs the Cosmos lampshades how he looks so youthful despite having wrestled for thirty years now.Explanation He even tells Specter in the Crocus Act 1 Intermission that he's turning 50 in a few years.
  • Papa Wolf: Don't hurt a child in his presence. When Team Flare wanted Oscar dead because he accidentally stole a phone that had secret plans on it, he unleashes the full extent of his powers and threatens to sacrifice Team Flare to the gods.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Rey stands a little over five feet and yet he's a force to be reckoned with.
  • Playing with Fire: He can summon blue fire through Agilao and Maragion.
  • Ring Oldies: He's nearing 50 by the time the story starts.
  • Screen Name: He talks to Tony under the name King? in Seeker of Crocus.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Lucha Underground Season 3 ended with him seen in a dungeon with his fate in the following season left unknown aside from him presumably being sacrificed to Matanza in the beginning of Season 4. Aerostar reveals that when he traveled back in time to save Rey, all he saw was a flash of green light. It's later revealed that the Infinity Train saved him.
  • Technicolor Fire: When he unleashes his fire abilities, the flames are bright blue.
  • The Worf Effect: Rey Mysterio versus the Cosmos shows that he can terrify Team Flare with a couple of fireballs. So it's serious when Rainbow Rocket Giovanni summons Mewtwo to throw him around like a ragdoll.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Subverted, he would rather not hit Mallow but has no choice when she's going crazy. Even then, the attack he uses, Memory Blow, is used on the stomach and not the head.
Oscar: I thought memories were in the head?
Rey: And then have me charged for giving her a concussion?
    Oscar:...good point.

    Oscar Aciano

Oscar Aciano/Enygma

"I’m Rey’s #1 fan so wherever he goes, I go!"

Appears in: Seeker of Crocus (First appearance: Act 1 Intermission) | Rey Mysterio vs the Cosmos (Debut)

A young boy who is a fan of Rey Mysterio and was temporarily given the powers to fight alongside his hero, going under the name "Enygma". He now seeks to uncover the truth behind his idol, if only to ensure the secret stays super secret.

  • Ascended Fanboy: He's a young boy who idolizes Rey Mysterio. He also was able to fight alongside his idol.
  • Book Dumb: Implied, the narration notes that he screams his lungs out if he gets a bad grade at school. However, he's also quite observant at putting things together and figuring out solutions on the fly.
  • Color Motifs: Blue. The mask he wore when he became Enygma is blue and his last name is translated into "Blue bottle flower". This also reflects how Rey Mysterio — based on his cartoon self — is predominantly wearing blue. He also mentioned that he got a Squirtle from Professor Sycamore (in his games).
  • Cool Mask: He has a collection of Rey Mysterio masks and he wears one as Enygma to hide his identity.
  • Cuteness Proximity: It takes a while, but he eventually warms up to Colette's Closdire.
  • Disappeared Dad: Oscar notes in Rey Mysterio versus the Cosmos that he doesn't like Lio's joke of Rey coming to deliver his phone to his mother like Rey is her "second love", implying that his father isn't part of his life. What this means — either a divorce, death, the father just walked out of their lives — isn't made clear. The Act 2 Prelude notes the possibility that it was traumatic because he could've been dragged onto the Train like Mallow were it not for his family and Lio.
  • Expy: Green Phantom Queen confirms that he's one of Paco as a young boy who is a big fan of a luchador and joins them on crazy adventures. Main difference is that Paco is not capable of fighting — he doesn't officially start his training until Season 5 and Jade knocks him out with the Sheep Talisman (Astral Projection) in the Final Battle — whereas Oscar can fight if he shares in Rey's powers. Funnily enough, Dominic is actually training under El Toro Fuerte and Paco is heard arguing with Jade during the phone call.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • His favorite subject at school is English and he likes writing book reports because they're similar to him typing out reviews on comics.
    • He's into the Pokémon series, particularly Gen VI, as he mentions to Rey how he would spend hours trying to find a Shiny Hawlucha and he has lots of knowledge of Professor Sycamore and Team Flare.
    • His favorite sport is soccer.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: A minor example; he assumes Chloe Cerise is like Chloe Bougeois and she's a snobby spoiled brat, not the fiery heroine on the Infinity Train who, while she did act spiteful, is a much nicer character than C. Bougeois is. It turns out Chloe Cerise is closer to Marinette.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Nearly pressed Chloe's Berserk Button when asking how and why she knows so much about demons.
  • Keeping Secrets Sucks: He feels uncomfortable having to lie to Lio about Rey's secret and his search for answers, and the fact that he also was a superhero named Enygma. By the time he appears in the Act 1 Intermission, it's implied that he's told Lio what happened.
  • I've Got an X, and I'm Not Afraid to Use It!: When Colette's Clodsire decides to get the jump on him, he proclaims he has a Hawlucha (actually Ash's) and he's not afraid to use it.
  • Kid Hero: He's a young boy who helped fight the forces of evil once empowered.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Subverted; while he does know that Rey Mysterio has magic abilities, he's also in the dark as to how much of Rey's exploits are actually real. He ultimately finds out more about him by the time he appears in Seeker of Crocus.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • His last name is Spanish for "blue bottle flower" or "Cornflower", which are symbols of good fortune. This reflects how this fanboy became a fighter alongside his idol.
    • His first name is actually a reference to Rey himself; Rey's real name is Oscar Gutierrez.
  • Mirror Character: To Chloe Cerise. They're both associated with red — Chloe's red hair and later red cloak, Oscar wears a red jacket — and have a closeness to a blue-related older male (Rey for Oscar, Sycamore for Chloe). They also feel uncomfortable talking to their close friend about something — Chloe and the problems at school and Oscar being a side kick to a super-powered Rey Mysterio — but while it took Chloe a long time to finally confess what's going on to Goh, it's implied that Oscar eventually told Lio about him being Enygma.
  • Oh, Crap!: Screams in terror when he looks at the Rotomdex's photos because he just captured signs of Team Rainbow Rocket invading Alola.
  • Otaku: He's into Power Rangers, given how he squees in excitement at seeing Kaito and Zocks transform and the idea of kaiju battles with Pokémon.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The fiery red to the Blue of both Rey and Lio, and wears a red jacket.
  • Running Gag: Whenever he kicks something, it usually hits someone that concidentally is connected with something big. In Rey Mysterio vs the Cosmos, he kicked a soda can that hit one of the Team Flare admints that had him stumble onto the plot of them wanting to uncover the Fifth Sun. In Seeker of Crocus, he kicks a Beast Ball that strikes an invisible Colress.
  • Secret-Keeper: He's the only person, outside of Rey's family, who knows that Rey is some superhero with magic powers. What he doesn't know is just how Rey got those powers and is actively trying to figure it out.
  • Sweet Tooth: He only gets out of bed when his mom teases him with making chocolate caliente (Mexican hot chocolate) and his tamales at the Chocolate Cosmos café has a mole sauce (a Mexican sauce that sometimes has chocolate in it). The third chapter reveals that chocolate is one of the items of his "holy trinity".
  • Tagalong Kid: For Rey, the Zenkaigers and Goldtsuiker siblings in the Seeker of Crocus Act 1 Intermission.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy:
    • Oscar assumes that whatever power corrupted Gran Cuerno is associated with Rey's adventures in his comic Rey Mysterio vs The Infinity because the mask corrupting the wrestler had an infinity symbol. Unfortunately, he's unaware that the comic is actually referring to the Infinity Train and it's highly unlikely that Uroboros is associated with it (mostly due to the fact that there's only one episode of the show so far).
    • He's more used to the Pokémon anime so he's complete shock that the Ultra Recon Squad appeared in the Crocusverse.
  • Your Favorite: His favorite breakfast is huevos divorciados — two fried eggs with one having red salsa, the other having green.

    Lio Dalia

Lio Dahlia

"We’re friends, Oscar. And friends should be able to keep things between one another."

Appears in: Seeker of Crocus (First appearance: Act 1 Intermission, Cameo) | Rey Mysterio vs the Cosmos (Debut)

Oscar's best friend.

  • The Cameo: He appears during the Act 1 Intermission of Seeker of Crocus in a phone call with Oscar.
  • Color Motif: Blue. He's also associated with blue as he has a blue cap, a shirt with blue sleeves and he snacks on nachos with blue tortilla chips.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Shows signs of this, particularly when it comes to his best friend's hyper-activeness.
  • Hidden Depths:
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Initially has no idea that his best friend became a temporary superhero until the Act 1 Intermission of Crocus has Oscar calling Lio and openly shouts how Rey and Enygma are going to save the world.
  • Mirror Character: He's the Goh to Oscar's Chloe, being a dark skinned friend of the red-focused character. Unlike Goh, Lio is immediately on the ball and supportive of Oscar's troubles even if he doesn't know what's bothering him.
  • Named by the Adaptation: He wasn't given a name when the pilot dropped so the fanfic calls him Lio.
  • Only Sane Man: He's known to make remarks about how Rey Mysterio comics are Strictly Formula and doesn't understand why Oscar is excitedly to read a new one.
  • Otaku: In the comic book shop, he is looking at the newest One Piece volume and he also is knowledgable about Power Rangers if his reactions to the Zenkaigers is to go by.
  • Put on a Bus: While he was involved in the adventure for Rey Mysterio vs the Cosmos, he's staying behind in Xochtil City while Oscar joins Rey and the Zenkaigers.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Blue to Oscar's Red, who is calm, collected and logical. And fittingly, he wears a shirt with blue sleeves and a blue baseball cap.
  • Secret-Keeper: It's implied that he learns about Oscar's stint as a superhero as Oscar calls him and openly states how Rey and Enygma are off to the Pokémon world in the Act 1 Intermission of Crocus.

    Rey's family

Dominic, Aalyah and Angie

Appears in: Rey Mysterio vs the Cosmos (Debut: Dominic, Cameo; Angie and Aalyah, Mentioned)

Rey's wife and children who are briefly mentioned.

  • The Cameo: Dominic appears in a phone call to his father in the prologue, studying under El Toro's tutelage.
  • The Ghost: Neither Rey's wife, Angie, nor daughter, Aalyah, have made appearances so far.
  • No Last Name Given: They don't have a definite surname — Dominic does go under the stage name Dominik Mysterio and Rey's real name is Oscar Gutierrez — so it's up in the air just how to address them. Even in the WWE.
  • Noodle Incident: Angie nearly got a knife out when Rey showed her what happened to his eyes.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Dominic's reaction when he shows Rey that two children are arguing back and forth between "Jackie" and "El Toro".
    Rey: Is it those two?
    Dominic: Those two.

    Dragon Azteca, Jr.

Dragon Azteca Jr.

Appears in: Rey Mysterio vs the Cosmos (Mentioned)

Rey Mysterio's cousin who is still taking part in Lucha Underground.

  • The Ghost: He's only mentioned through Aerostar at Rey is "abandoning" him.
  • Legacy Character: He's carrying on the name of Dragon Azteca Sr., his mentor.
  • Wrestling Family: Is actually Rey's cousin in real life, through the original Rey Mysterio Sr.

    Benedict

Benedict

Appears in: Rey Mysterio vs the Cosmos (Debut)

The owner of Galaxy Comics.

  • Intergenerational Friendship: He's close to Oscar and Lio, to the point that he trusts Oscar with a very valuable heirloom.
  • Mysterious Past: How is he involved with the Fifth Sun?
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: He gives Oscar a medallion he wore upon learning about the "Fifth Sun". Lio notes that Benedict would never do such a thing, given how it's a priceless heirloom, and he previously refused to sell it to Zocks despite the Kaizoku giving him a sack of treasure.
  • Oh, Crap!: The look on his face when he learns about the "Fifth Sun".
  • Screw the Money, I Have Rules!: He refuses all of Zocks' payments in gold coins and rings for his comics and the offer for his medallion.
  • Shout-Out: His name, wearing a blue shirt and medallion is presumably one to Benedict Cumberbatch, aka Dr. Strange. Bonus points, Benedict Cumberbatch did dress up as Dr. Strange to read comics in a comic store once.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He doesn't have a big role, but his medallion is what kicks off the main plot of Rey Mysterio vs the Cosmos.

    Night Claw

Night Claw

Appears in: Rey Mysterio vs the Cosmos (Debut)

A panther-based luchador who is in Xochtil City for his own reasons.

  • Adaptational Personality Change: Per Word of God, he wasn't on Lucha Underground long enough to gauge a personality on him (and by long enough, we mean within the span of three episodes). The fanfic has him as an Only Sane Man loner type character who gets annoyed at Aerostar's curiosity.
  • Animal Motif: He's based on the panther.
  • Mysterious Past: There is nothing known about his past to the point that Aerostar can't find anything about him, probably referencing how little screentime he had on the show.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: He left Boyle Heights and everything with the Seven Tribes because it was an absolute madhouse and because he felt like there was something else he had to take care of.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: This is what he felt when being Boyle Heights, which is why he decided to leave as soon as possible.

Zenkaitopia/Kaizokutopia

    Kaito Goshikida/Zenkaizer

Kaito Goshikida

"Full force, full throttle!"

"We have a choice to be optimistic or wallow in despair. So I choose to look forward to the good in life because that’s what keeps me smiling. I mean, you shouldn’t wait until things clear up to decide to smile again."

Appears in: Seeker of Crocus (First appearance: Act 1 Intermission) | Rey Mysterio vs the Cosmos (debut)

The leader of the Zenkaigers who wishes to be the "World's first" at numerous achievements.

  • Action Survivor: He ended up on the Train and got back home after a week. In comparison, Mallow took three months at age 5 to figure her problems out. Justified in this case, because his partner at the time happened to be a Goetia.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Somewhat. In his show, Kaito was shown to be upbeat despite losing his parents. However, Rey Mysterio vs the Cosmos reveals that he was on the Infinity Train (even if it was only for a week) after some kids mocked him for his parents disappearing.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: Downplayed; he's still his happy-go-lucky energetic self, but he also is shown to have moments of calm and zen when it comes to deeper problems.
  • The Anti-Nihilist: He gives an insightful speech about his optimistic philosophy in the Palmipsest Car, stating that you shouldn't wait till things get less hard before you become happy. The co-author reveals that this was a reference to a contestant from America's Got Talent (who tragically passed away in February 2022) who stated a similar quote.
  • Call-Forward: He mentioned seeing an older him dressed him white, which is a reference to him encountering the Creator of the World in the Zenkaiger finale who takes on the form of Kaito in a pure white attire. Moreover, he was tricked into doing this via rock-paper-scissors, just like how Kaito challenged the Creator to such a game and won.
  • Character Catchphrase: He likes to note how things are "full-force/full-on x".
  • Color Motif: White. His jacket is white, his Sentai outfit is predominanetly white, and his eyes glow white which signal that he was influenced by Auric and another entity on the Train, revealed to be Agares (who dresses up in a pure white version of Kaito).
  • Deal with the Devil: He unknowingly made a covenant with Agares when he was younger and Asher reveals that Auric/Buné made another one in case of emergencies.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: He punches Agares, the second ranked Goetia, over Agares having tricked him to make a covenant when he was younger.
  • Good Wears White: His Zenkaiger suit is predominantly white, he wears a white jacket, and he's the leader of the Zenkaizers.
  • Hero of Another Story: He's a former Train passenger, and his partner was a three-headed dragon (Auric). He also met with moving statues, talking dogs, and a cult obsessed with lamps.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • He knows a bit of pro wrestling, as he notes that Rey Mysterio is different to the Japanese wrestlers he's grown up with.
    • He can be quite philosophical at time, stating that one shouldn't wait till things get better to be happy.
  • Inexplicable Language Fluency: Upon looking at some files from the old phone Oscar picked up, he's somehow able to read Aztec glyphs just by looking at it. This is probably due to his covenant with Agares, as one of Agares' ability is to let his conjurer read and understand different languages.
  • Irony:
    • Kaito boasts that he wants to be the world's first at things. He unknowingly made a covenant with Agares, the second-ranked of the Goetias.
    • The boy who has a Rainbow Motif and is associated with the color white has a secondary covenant with an all black Goetia.
  • Like a Son to Me: Auric, in disguise as Yugure, considers Kaito like his own offspring. This is around the same the readers learns he's one of the Goetias.
  • Mythology Gag: He mentions in Act 2 how he gave advice to the Zenkai Red in his dreams, a reference to the Zenkaiger TV-Special, Introducing Zenkai Red!.
  • The Nicknamer: He refers to many denizens by nicknames. Auric was called "Au-san", his kid (who would become Sycamore's Shadow/Asher) is "Kage", Kage's former mentor — Paimon — is "Pie-sama" and Pie-sama is a devoted folloewr of "Luci-san" aka Lucifer.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: He's a sweet guy most of the time, so it's quite startling that he's upset with Agares over how Agares tricked him into a covenant when he was six and not feeling sorry about it and punches him in the face.
  • Prophecy Twist: Whatever "blessed" him stated that he would become a different person/enlightened upon having a bird in his hands and riding a crocodile. Cutanner and Ricky realize that the bird is Secchan and the crocodile is the crocodile ship they're currently on.
  • Prophet Eyes: Momentarily has these when he warns Rey about event involving "light, crash and worlds", placed under a hypnotic trigger by Auric. He gets this again when he stars translating the documents from the phone Oscar recovered; which is in Aztec glyphs. It's later revealed that it's part of the covenant he made with Agares.
  • Rainbow Motif: His secondary color motif. He has a rainbow stripe on his Zenkaizer outfit, and his last name can be read as "five-color person".
  • Stepford Smiler: Downplayed; he gives a speech that explains that keeps smiling despite the hardships he faces because one shouldn't just wait till things get easier before you start smiling again.
  • Token Human: Of both the Zenkaigers (as they're robots) and the Goldstuikers (as they come from a different world).
  • Verbal Tic: When he's "enlightened", he goes "Crococo~"

A pirate who hails from Kaizokutopia and is an ally to the Zenkaiger.

  • Beware the Silly Ones: His transformation sequence involves dancing to a pirate jig. But he's also a pirate and he will fight dirty if need be.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Don't hurt his siblings or he will get incensed.
  • Bling-Bling-BANG!: He wears a bright gold outfit as Twokaizer.
  • Brother–Sister Team: Is this with his sister Flint, and also his younger brothers.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Comes with being a pirate, but he will shoot the Team Flare Grunts without a second doubt.
  • Human Alien: He's human in appearance but he hails from another world.
  • Pirate: He and his siblings hail from Kaizokutopia — kaizoku being the Japanese term for "pirate" — where everyone is a pirate.
  • Verbal Tic: Likes to end sentences with a Yohohoi.

    Flint Goldtsuiker

Flint Goldtsuiker

Appears in: Seeker of Crocus (First appearance: Act 1 Intermission) | Rey Mysterio vs the Cosmos (Debut)

The middle daughter of the Goldtsuikers.

  • Action Girl: She's not a Super Sentai like Zocksnote , but that won't stop her from rushing into battle with a hammer.
  • Big Sister Instinct: She only got into battle with Team Flare when they were about to hurt her little brothers.
  • Everyone Has Standards: As she tells Team Flare — who are ready to destroy Benedict's comic shop and take Oscar dead or alive because he accidentally has their phone — that she and her siblings are pirates, but they have standards.

    Cutanner and Ricky Goldtsuiker

Cutanner and Ricky Goldtsuiker

Appears in: Seeker of Crocus (First appearance: Act 1 Intermission) | Rey Mysterio vs the Cosmos (Debut)

Twin brothers and youngest of the Goldtsuikers. They used to be human but were transformed into super-deformed robots due to a curse from SDtopia caused by their constant bickering.

  • Comically Missing the Point: When Rey explains that you can only get on the Train if you're traumatized, the two immediately proclaim that they're this in the hopes of seeing Au-san's dragon hoard. They eventually change their minds when Rey recalls one of his stories at seeing a passenger die in a burning building.
  • Cute Machines: They're small samurai robots with the hyper-active energy of young children because they are young children.
  • Sibling Rivalry: They're always seen fighting each other; it's one of these arguements that turned them into their current forms.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: They've become terrified of "fire dogs" when they appear in the Seeker of Crocus Act 1 Intermission. More specifically, they're afraid of Houndooms when Hewie tried to appear on screen.
    "AHH! Evil fire dog!"

Juran

  • Friend to All Children: He's willing to protect Oscar and Lio from Team Flare, agreeing to be a bodyguard for the time being.
  • In-Series Nickname: Oscar and Lio call him "Luchasaurus" due to him being a dinosaur-based robot.

A Kikanoid with a feline appearance who loves animals, humans included.

  • Animal Lover: He loves all sorts of animals, including humans.
  • Cuteness Proximity: He has this towards animals and humans. Pokémon — or at least the beast-type ones, given his derision to Golurk and Renji's Magnemite — also follow under this umbrella, given his reaction to Snowy.
  • I'm Taking Her Home with Me!: Discussed. When he sees Oscar and Lio, Oscar questions if Gaon is going to be like that crazy cleaver girl. He also goes gaga over Pokémon and wants to trade places with Chloe because she's traveling with Atticus.
  • Panthera Awesome: He's based off of a lion.
  • Worth It: Mutters this after being blasted with Snowy's Powder Snow and says "No regrets" after Pikachu shocks him.

    Magine

Magine

Appears in: Seeker of Crocus (First appearance: Act 1 Intermission) | Rey Mysterio vs the Cosmos (Debut)

A Kikanoid with a thing for magic and fortune-telling.

  • Berserk Button: Do not do anything that would get in the way of her fortune-telling. The other Zenkaigers have flashbacks involving the two times the Walds monsters did that and it wasn't pretty.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: A sweet and friendly Zenkaiger who can be a bit of a Shrinking Violet, but will kick your ass if you do anything to interrupt her fortune-telling.
  • Commonality Connection: She gets along with Chloe by telling her how they are both passioante for their loves (demons for Chloe, fortune-telling for Magine).
  • Crystal Ball: She carries one of them to use her fortune-telling.
  • Fortune Teller: It's one of her hobbies and she uses a crystal ball to see into the future.
  • Magic Is Feminine: She's into magic and fortune-telling and is female. She's also based off of the Magirangers Super Sentai group.
  • Pink Is Feminine: Is a pink Kikanoid and the only female of the Zenkaigers.
  • Serious Business: She takes fortune-telling very seriously and anything that gets in the way of it will ensure her wrath.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Goh remarks that Magine saw an image of someone scratching their neck in her crystal ball; said person also had red hair. If she didn't see this, Goh wouldn't have made the call just as Chloe was about to have her head chopped off.
  • Verbal Tic: When she looks into her crystal ball, she mutters "Nu-nu-nu", the Japanese onomatopoeia for murmuring.

    Vroon

Vroon

"My curiousity engines are going into overdrive!"

    Secchan

  • Insistent Terminology: He's not a parrot, but an eagle.
  • Robot Buddy: He's a robotic eagle that acts like the mentor for the Zenkaigers.
  • Verbal Tic: Usually ends sentences with -chun, the Japanese onomotopaeia for a bird's chirp.

Other characters

    Jeff Hardy

Jeff Hardy

Appears in: Seeker of Crocus (Mentioned) | Rey Mysterio vs the Cosmos (Debut)

Brother of Matt Hardy who is constantly referenced by other people.

  • Ambiguous Situation: Green Phantom Queen herself states whether or not Jeff is a passenger is "up in the air", mostly because his personal history of drug abuse won't mix well with the Train itself. He appears in Rey Mysterio vs the Cosmos somehow broken/"deleted".
  • Chekhov's Gunman He's only mentioned twice: once by Chloe (who quotes a line to his theme "Obsolete") and Rey (who mentions that Jeff's been worried sick about his brother gone missing.) He appears in a news video in Rey Mysterio vs the Cosmos having gone mentally insane due to unknown circumstances.

    Jerry

Jerry

The head of the World Organization of Helping People (WOOHP) and effectively Tony's boss.

  • Cool Old Guy: He's in his sixties and runs a super secret agent organization.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Once he learns what's going on, he helps make a cover story of Tony at a coding camp in Europe so as to not worry his parents and ensures that WOOHP will support Tony while he's on his trip.
  • Secret-Keeper: He's one of the only few people who knows Tony's whereabouts.

    Spencer Thompson (Unmarked Spoilers)

Spencer Thompson/Specter/Orchidea Nuocere

Appears in: Orchid Observer (Debut) | Arcanum Universe: Scarlet Heists (Mentioned)

A student supposedly transferring to Jesse's school while he was on his Train Trip. He is also a famous figure in a game called Tuner Showdown before it's revealed he's an alternate version of Specter.

  • Adaptation Personality Change: Specter in his show is stoic, calm, aloof and sadistic. Blossomverse/Crocus Specter is softened up to give him humanizing traits. This Specter, is a complete 360 from standard Specter: shy, quiet, calm and shows no signs of his canon sadism.
  • Alternate Self: He's an alternate version of Specter.
  • Ambiguously Human: After he tasered a clown coming towards Nate, he tells the boy that he can only unleash it "once per charge". Nate then questions if he's a robot/cyborg/android and the way he tries to dodge the question implies that he's not even human to begin with. It's later revealed that he's an alternate Specter but again, it doesn't give any hints if this Specter is human at all. Chapter 6 of Orchid Observer reveals that he is human, but he uses an android body when he travels to other worlds.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Given that Colette, his partner, is an alternate version of Chloe Cerise, whether he's also an alternate version of someone else or not is up in the air. Later chapters confirm that this is an alternate Specter.
  • Awesome Anachronistic Apparel: Downplayed; while he is shown wearing a black hoodie and jeans, something that is an enduring fashion trend in the New 20s, he carries his most important objects in something called a chatelaine which were usually used by women in the 16th century and there is evidence of those worn by the Samnites — who lived around the time of Ancient Rome.
  • Awesome Mc Cool Name: His Tuner Showdown alias is called Orchid Harm (Orchidea Nuocere).
  • Berserk Button: Don't take his phone while he's busy with his idle game; especially if he's just a few attacks from defeating an enemy. Jesse learned this the hard way.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: Shy he may be, he also shows that he's not a pushover, having used his recording pen to make note of Ethan and his cronies that he can use to get them expelled. And when CarnEvil bleeds to the real world, he is already prepared to protect Nate.
  • The Cameo: Colette sees him on a TV screen in Descendant's Shadow, where he's finished defeating an opponent.
  • Canon Character All Along: While revealed to initially be an OC, it's later revealed that he's an alternate Specter.
  • Character Tics:
    • Fiddling around with his twelve-sided fidget cube or tapping at his phone while playing his idle game.
    • He also stumbles when it comes to Internet lingo. For example, instead of "G2G", he uses "IN2G" (I need to go) and he uses "AL" (all right) instead of "OFC".
  • Color Motifs: Not black, despite his nickname being "Black Hoodie". It turns out to be green as he has a green fidget die, green quarter note earrings, a blue-green kopesh sword, and his fingernails are painted bright green. This helps to associate with his plant-like abilities.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He wears a black hoodie that covers his face, but he's very shy, bonds with Nate and vows to protect him when Ethan, Jesse, Lake and Colette get sucked into CarnEvil.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He snarks to Colette that wrestling fans haven't argued over Bust-a-Groove with their signs.
  • Dramatic Stutter: He has a tendency to stutter, which adds to his Shrinking Violet personality.
  • The Faceless: Most of the time, his face is obscured by his hoodie or his phone covering his face. It gets to the point that in Seeker of Crocus, everyone is wondering what he looks like under it. But for those who read Orchid Observer or connected the dots from the co-author's obvious Author Appeal, he looks like Specter.
  • Famed In-Story: He's apparently the tenth ranked Tuner in an idle game called Tuner Showdown.
  • Flower Motifs: Orchids. His alias in Tuner Showdown is Italian for "Orchid Harm", his belt buckle has an orchid, and he has a signature of laying a white orchid onto the body of an opponent. Two meanings for orchids include love and wealth, which reflects how this Specter is in a healthy relationship with his Ryoken and that, as part of the Knights of Hanoi, he lives with Ryoken in his seaside manor.
  • Foreshadowing: There are a few hints about him being an alternate Specter to the point the author herself lampshades that the readers really should've seen it coming.
    • Colette's alias for him is "Spencer Thompson". Thompson is the surname of Specter's VA — Billy Bob Thompson.
    • He doesn't like being called "Boo" — which is something ghosts usually say. And another term for ghost is a specter.
    • Nate cheers him on by first calling him Specter instead of Spencer. The narration states that he flinched on the former.
  • The Gadfly: He trolls Evil Marie by dancing around and singing "Don't lose ur head" to her before slicing it off.
  • Gentle Giant: Shy, quiet, looks like a high school senior and honestly looks like he wouldn't hurt a fly. He also bonds with the younger Nate.
  • The Ghost: He's mentioned in Scarlet Heists by the Arcanum Professor Cerise as someone he hopes his daughter never meets up with.
  • Green Thumb: He has abilities related to plants, like growing a forest, rapidly growing pomegranate seeds and a smoke screen made of pollen.
  • Hates Being Nicknamed: He's okay with someone calling him Spencer Thompson but detests nicknames. He quietly refuses being called "Boo Radley" or "Boo".
  • Hates Being Touched: Being hugged by Colette only has him whisper "Please stop hugging me".
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: His weapon is a blue-green khopesh sword.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • He likes playing in arcades with rhythm games being his favorite.
    • He's fluent in Italian, as he comes up with the team of him, Colette, Jesse and Lake when they appear in Seeker of Crocus as Riconnetersi or "Reconnect" in Italian. Jesse lampshades this:
Jesse: And how do you know Italian exactly?
Spencer: You can be surprised how many apps you find in another world.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: When paired with his partner, ten-year-old Colette.
  • In the Hood: He wears a black hoodie that covers his face. This gives him the alias "Black Hoodie" before he's called Spencer Thompson. When he brings it down, he looks similar to Specter.
  • Irony:
    • Spencer is a brilliant hacker and part of the villainous Knight of Hanoi...and yet he struggles with using basic Internet lingo.
    • Spencer only became a Tuner due to him ignoring the Terms and Conditions of the app he downloaded. Again, he's supposedly one of the terrifying Knights of Hanoi.
  • It Was a Gift: His precious fidget die is this, given to him by his family.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: He's fine standing back, eating pepperoni pretzels and playing his idle game. But when Nate is in danger from CarnEvil coming to life, he gets ready to fight with a khopesh sword in hand.
  • Literal Metaphor: Colette makes a comment about having to shove Spencer into a closet. The Cosay parents assume that Colette is trying to hide the fact that he's gay. It turns out, Spencer is in a rechargable robot body, and his charging station is literally in the closet of a hotel room. And yes, he's gay.
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: He's shy and quiet compared to his more proactive, outgoing partner.
  • Meaningful Name: His surname, "Thompson" was coined by Colette, who uses guns, due to the fact that it's the name of a famous gun — the Tommy gun. Also, as he's an alternate Specter, the surname reflects his dub voice actor — Billy Bob Thompson.
  • Mythical Motifs: He has a Classical Mythology motif, specifically to those related to plants or the tale of Hades and Persephone. His khopesh sword looks similar to a sickle and is named Ascalaphus, the caretaker of Hade's orchard who announced that Persephone ate the six pomegranate seeds. He also can throw pomegranate seeds onto the ground and his Pre-Mortem One-Liner to some clowns is "See you in Hades".
  • Nervous Wreck: He's shy, has a stutter and shrinks back in fear when Ethan and his cronies snatch his fidget die.
  • Official Couple: With his world's Ryoken as a flashback in Orchid Observer proves.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: The idea of him summoning white orchids apparently came a white orchid dropping out of his hand once. He rolls his eyes when Colette brings it up in their first conversation.
  • Parental Abandonment: His birth mother abandoned him and something happened to his adoptive mother. Those who knows Specter's backstory would know the truth: his parents abandoned him in a tree (who he saw as a mother) and the tree was chopped down while he was being electrocuted.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: He loves Bust a Groove and his favorite character was the artist Frida. He also has green nail polish and green earrings.
  • Red Baron: "Orchidea Nuocere" (Orchid Harm in Italian), named because of the white orchids that appear.
  • Ridiculously Human Robot: If he is a robot anyway (see Ambiguously Human above), he's capable of eating food without issue. It's later revealed to be a robot body that his mind inhabits.
  • Security Blanket:
    • His twelve-sided fidget dice. So much so that when Ethan and his friends played around with it, licked it, and then threw it into the trash, he panics and goes searching for it.
    • His phone is also one, as he constantly keeps playing an Idle Game on it.
  • Shock and Awe: He can give an electric shock to someone once per charge.
  • Shrinking Violet: He is a shy character with a stutter and usually keeps his face hidden with a hood.
  • Sweet Tooth: Apparently has a love of Neapolitan desserts, and Colette lets him use her Alcremie as a partner.
  • Tastes Like Friendship: He and Colette became friends once she handed him a box of pepperoni pretzel bites.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Has a fondness for pepperoni soft pretzels. He and Colette bond when she handed him pepperoni pretzel bites and he eats a pepperoni-jalapeno pretzel when he meets Lake and Nate at the arcade. A flashback reveals that he's also into Neapolitan desserts.
  • Walking Spoiler: If you've come this far and haven't realized that this is an alternate Specter, then this should probably lay that to rest.

    Colette Cadieux (Unmarked Spoilers)

Chloe Cerise (alias: Colette Cadieux)

"I'm more than just a girl. I'm Colette Cadieux, the Descendant's Shadow."

"BURN IT DOWN!!!"

Appears in: Seeker of Crocus (First appearance: The Palimpsest Car) | Orchd Obsever (Debut) | Arcanum Archives: Descendant's Shadow | Arcanum Universe: Scarlet Heists

A young girl who is Spencer's partner for his mission and a Cyber Warrior who fights off against living computer viruses. Turns out that there's a lot more to her than that.

  • Action Survivor: Prior to becoming a Cyber Warrior, Chloe mostly relied on her wits and whatever she had on hand.
  • Adaptational Badass: As a whole, Chloe is much more assertive and confident when she's seen in Orchid Observer. Descendant's Shadow is about how she becomes more badass, both as a fighter and a trainer.
  • Adaptational Context Change: The only reason Chloe fight off Pelipper in Journeys Episode 49 was because of how conveniently the Team Rocket Prize Master just wasn't working that day and so they had no choice but to ask for Pelipper to help out. Here, Chloe uses Descendant's Shadow to close the panel that would've dropped the Team Rocket Poké balls down the slot until Team Rocket gives up and then sends Pelipper to finish her off.
  • Adaptational Intelligence:
    • Chloe showed no signs of getting into fighting with Yamper and thus the only move he actually uses is Spark. In Arcanum Archives: Descendant's Shadow, she tells Goh that she's been training alongside Yamper with all of his reserve Pokémon in case Spark doesn't end up being helpful.
    • In comparison to the show where she stood around and watched Team Rocket fumble about when their Rocket Prize Master suddenly stopped working, she uses the telekinesis of Descendant's Shadow to ensure Team Rocket's Prize Master didn't work so they gave up and summoned Pelipper (Water/Flying, in case one forgets) against her Electric Yamper.
  • Adaptational Nationality: It's implied she's from Kanto, but she tells Goh that her dad is from Galar and her mom is from Kalos, essentially meaning that she's the Poké-equivalent of half-British/half-French.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • Blossomverse Chloe and Goh did not get along well due to one unable to explain her problems and other so focused on Mew that he can't see Chloe's problems. Due to the story taking place in Episode 49, they are on much better terms with one another and Collete/Chloe is more open to have more explorations with him and Ash. They also end up becoming Friendly Rivals ala the Let's Go protagonist and rival when it comes to catching Pokémon. She also ensures to Goh that they're always friends, even when Goh starts getting envious about Hop.
    • The only interactions Blossomverse Chloe and Hop is during the Fog Car, mostly when Chloe has to deal with Delirium. The Chloe and Hop in this verse become fast friends and partners as Cyber Warriors. It's to the point that mentioning that Hop is in trouble will get her ready to murder someone. Spencer even notes that she'd part the sea to save him.
    • She never got along with Ash until after shit hits the fan in Blossoming Trail and even then, their talks are still distant. In Descendant's Shadow, Ash becomes a Big Brother Mentor and he gives her info on Pokémon moves and stories about his adventures.
  • Alice Allusion: She chases a young girl in an ethereal Lolita dress down the rabbit hole into a Data Train and, like most iterations of Chloe, is a huge Alice in Wonderland fan.
  • All Girls Like Ponies: Scarlet Heists reveals that she has a Galarian Ponyta and it is a Galarian Rapidash by the time they're seen in Seeker of Crocus.
  • Alliterative Name: Her alias is Colette Cadieux and her real name is Chloe Cerise.
  • Alternate Self: Orchid Observer reveals that she's an alterante version of Chloe Cerise.
  • Alternative-Self Name-Change: Goes by "Colette Cadieux" in Orchid Observer and Seeker of Crocus to distinguish herself from the other Chloe, and also because she wants to keep her identity secret when she dimension hops.
  • Ambiguously Bi: In Descendant's Shadow, she is known to have feelings for Hop (despite author notes revealing that the two aren't getting together) and may or not crush on an upperclassman named Tommy. She initially mistakes Grusha as a girl before being embarrassed at learning that's not the case. She also gushes over how Iris looks prettier in person. Orchid Observer will reveal that she's "bi-curious" as she still maintains her feelings for Hop, but she's slowly comes to terms with being in a relationship with Regina.
  • Awesome by Analysis: Prior to becoming a Cyber Warrior, she was quick to survey her surroundings to her advantage. For example, she manages to use a beach ball as a distraction to get herself out of the bindings of Gunning's Cyber Tool. She also saw the Rocket Prize Master like a gumball machine and uses her tool to shut the flap that would drop the Poké ball. When fighting off Daten, Ryu's Digimon, she takes note that they're terrified of having a carrot thrown at their face before she learns that Daten hates carrots.
  • Badass Adorable: An alternate Chloe who fights with a gun that gives her telekinesis and has more experience in Pokémon battles. Most of her Pokémon are also very cute but powerful as well.
  • Battle Boomerang: The first weapon she gets outside her Cyber Tool is a boomerang, reflecting the one that Kitty-N from Bust a Groove uses in her jammer ability.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Implying that Hop is in trouble is one. When Ash mentions a Hop in the Infinity Train, she immediately demands answers.
    • Don't steal her food. Bray Zen taking her whipped cream to top the curry without her permission has her spike a baked apple she cooked for him with Tama-basco sauce in retaliation.
    • Oh and don't diss mint chocolate ice cream. She was going to have Ryu's head (her Ryu not the one on the Train) for that.
  • Bespectacled Cutie: When she's in her Colette Cadieux attire or just simply wearing her pink Cyber Goggles (which look like normal pink framed glasses), which highlights how she's a normal ten-year-old girl.
  • Bi-Wildered: In Orchid Observer, she expresses confusion over the fact that despite her admiration for Hop, she feels closer to Regina and is unsure if it's okay that she's "bi-curious". It takes some encouragement from Jesse for her to accept that she has feelings for a girl.
  • Body Motifs: Hands. She thrusts a hand out when she initially tries to use the telekinesis of her Cyber Tool, she wears accessories that have Hamsa hands — which are historically symbols of good fortune/protection — and the moment that she became friends with Hop is when they held hands. She's also friends with Goh, who always proclaims that "the future is in the palm of his hands".
  • Born Lucky: In Part 3 of the Harvest Moon Car she reveals that she has a shiny Clodsire, a three-segmented Dudunsparce and caught Suicune.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: As someone who is an avid wrestling fan, she tends to use their catch phrases.
    • When she's about to fight, she roars "Burn it down!"
    • During the battle against Tokkentaker in Orchid Observer, she cries out the signature line of WWE commentator [Pat] McAfee: "For the brand!"
  • Braids of Action: Once she has no choice but to fight inside CarnEvil, she ties her hair into a braid and then lays waste to a group of murderous clowns.
  • Bully Hunter: Dislikes bullies and decides to fight Ethan in a round of CarnEvil for how he and his cronies picked at Spencer and his fidget dice.
  • Canon Character All Along: She at first looks like an original character, but is eventually revealed to be an alternate version of Chloe Cerise.
  • Cassandra Truth: She tells everyone in the Data Train that she saw a girl in a purple and black dress with the Cyber Tool Pen. No one believes her and accuse her for being a thief. However, Hop later stands up for Chloe by stating that just because he can't see it, that doesn't mean one should deny Chloe's claims. Turns out the little girl is real, as she's really the combined spiritual essence of the items used to make the Cyber Tool with Hop being the only other person who sees her.
  • Cheery Pink: She has a lot of pink accessories and is a Genki Girl.
  • Cherry Blossom Girl: Has a more prominent cherry blossom motif than in the anime, given that she has one or two shirts that actually have cherry blossoms on them, is associated with the color pink, and is hailed as the successor to a legendary hero.
  • The Chosen One:
    • She was chosen for the specific mission in Orchid Observer because it involves the Infinity Train which her great-great-grandfather, Alec Cerise, entered centuries ago and gave proof of its existence.
    • She's also the only one capable of wielding Descendant's Shadow, a Veteran-level Cyber Tool, and thus carry on Wakana Himika's legacy.
  • Clark Kenting: She makes a big deal of her disguise, but ultimately it's just her without the braid and glasses. It's still good enough to fool Crocus-Ash though, since he was never that close to his Chloe, until she calls out Yamper.
  • Color Motifs: Three versions of them.
    • Pink and blue. She has pink framed glasses, and her attire has a shirt with a blue moon, not to mention that her fanny pack is a combination of pink and blue, same with her tamagotchi. She also has a tattoo on her left shoulder of a pink and blue Ekans.
    • Purple and black. Her Cyber Tool is a mixture of these colors and she is gifted a hamsa hand pendant with purple and black beads. This reflects her being the next generation of Wakana Himika, whose signature colors were also purple and black.
    • White. Aside from her school uniform, her Colette disguise has a white tee, her Cyber Warrior armor is white, and her favorite Bust-a-Groove character is (S)Kitty-N, who wears a white toku-inspired outfit.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Chloe's not afraid to fight dirty, like having Yamper bite on the chain of Achi's bear trap to electrocute her, or hurling Coro directly at Woodmon's face with her Cyber Tool.
  • Companion Cube: Her tamagotchi, with the slime mascot called "Datchi-chan".
  • Composite Character: She's essentially a mixed bag of character traits.
    • By the time she appears in Seeker of Crocus, she ends up as a female combination of Ash and Goh's best traits. She's captured plenty of Pokémon (and is the one who caught Suicune in her world instead of Goh) while she has a Hot-Blooded attitude with a hankering for fighting like Ash would.
    • Surprisingly, she holds traits to the alternate Chloe from Journeys Episode 89 and 90 — being a more confident and head-forward Chloe who is tech-savvy.
    • Video-game wise, she's the female protagonist of the Let's Go! series Elaine. This includes how she has an Eevee starter with partner moves, and her relationship with Goh is like the player character's rivalry with Chase.
  • Crazy-Prepared:
    • She made sure to have Yamper be trained in different moves outside Spark, which comes in handy when she has to fight off Gunning's Court.
    • She always keeps a spare bag of Oran berries on her, which people lampshade. She explains this by stating her mom has an Oran berry bush back at their house and tells her to carry some berries on her, just in case. These berries were how she obtained her Clodsire.
  • Cuteness Proximity: She absolutely melts at seeing Hop's Wooloo and later extends this to other cute things.
  • Decomposite Character: While Crocus-Chloe carries many of the Boiling Point Chloe's traits, Colette has BP Chloe's love of the color pink, cheery attitude, and romantic side.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: She's still trying to figure out what she wants to do, but upon entering a Data Train, meeting Hop and proving herself more than worthy, she becomes a Cyber Warrior with the mission to protect her world (and others) from living computer viruses. She eventually decides to try out as a Pokémon Ranger, and by the time she appears in Seeker of Crocus, she's waiting for the Almia region to respond to her acceptance letter.
  • Does Not Understand Sarcasm: When Kiawe snarks that maybe they'll be a big performance show with the Alolan Idols after Rainbow Rocket is done and Colette can join them, she only asks "Really?" with sincerity. Lake even asks if she doesn't understand that Kiawe was being sarcastic.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: Despite everything she does in the Galar Wild Areas, particularly in being more proactive in catching Pokémon, she barely gets noticed by Cara Less or Bray Zen — the latter especially doesn't give a Raticate's ass at how he nearly crushed Chloe with a stalagmite and shouts at her when she tries to help them with his and Cara's fossil mix-up — and Goh captures the fossil Pokemon Arctozolt instead of her even though she put more work into fighting itnote . Downplayed in that Ash notices the problem and Goh is willing to give Chloe said Pokémon when they see her upset about Cara and Bray's decisions, but she turns the offers down because she technically didn't defeat them and insists that she and Goh fight for the right to keep Arctozolt.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Early Descendant's Shadow has her Pokémon not be nicknamed. But later on, she would nickname others like Pastel (Galarian Rapidash), Blurpleberry (Shiny Clodsire), and Cremini (Breloom).
  • Edible Theme Naming: Her Pokémon out of her initial four — Yamper, Eevee, Squirtle, Alcremie — are all given nicknames based off of food. Even she gets on this, as two nicknames for her are "Twizzler" (because her braided hair looks like licorice) and "Tomatoe cherry" (Again, red hair and her surname means "Cherry").
  • Establishing Character Moment:
    • Orchid Observer has her officially appear in a flashback when she meets with Spencer, showing off a side that loves food — handing Ramul some pastries and pretzel bites for Spencer — before a scene in the present has her press forward to stop Ethan from picking on her partner. This shows that she has a gentle side but doesn't like injustice.
    • Descendant's Shadow has Chloe at the precipe of getting ready to move forward with her life and also has her mention to Goh that she has been training with Yamper in case of emergencies, showing a more proactive Chloe who prepares for any situation.
  • Everyone Has Standards: She may use guns as weapons, but she's not a gun enthusiast and would rather wield light guns or toy guns if possible.
  • Expy: Green Phantom Queen admits that she kept seeing Yuamu Ohdo when she envisioned Colette's Season 1 design, specifically noting the pink glasses and light blue jacket tied around the waist.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: She gives Ramil — the cook on the Data Train — some homemade mini Fraisiers, which are essentially the French version of strawberry shortcake. Arcanum Archives: Descendant's Shadow has her cooking alongside her mother.
  • Fiery Redhead: Has red hair and a feisty personality, just like most Blossomverse iterations of Chloe.
  • Four-Leaf Clover: After becoming a Cyber Warrior, Chloe makes the clover her symbol. She names her party Trèfle Rouge (Red Clover) and her Yamper, Eevee and Squirtle proudly wear red four-leaf clover pendants. She explains to Hop that she uses this symbol to give her good luck on her new path. Fittingly, as the Born Lucky trope above shows, these clovers have given her good fortune.
  • Free-Range Children: Her parents and teacher are okay with her going to another dimension apparently. Her partners gave a cover story that she's going to a workshop. Later subverted in Seeker of Crocus as her father is not happy to learn that she's gone to another dimension for a mission when she promised to not go on a crazy adventures.
  • Friend to All Children: Gets along well with Daga and Nate Cosay, which is explained because of her closeness to her little brother Parker.
  • Gamer Chick: She loves light gun games and bonds with Spencer because of their love of Bust a Groove. She states she loves the first game's Kitty-N (or rather Skitty-N) and has Kitty-N's theme from the first game on her phone. This is necessary for her job as a Cyber Warrior to have a passion for games since they're usually fighting sentient viruses.
  • Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: A much more prominent example compared to Crocus Chloe. She wears her hair long, her main attire is in pinks and blues, her wardrobe is full of shirts and leggings, and she is capable of baking cakes and sweets. She loves arcade games, particularly rhythm games and shooters. She also is a big wrestling fanatic, as she comments to Spencer how there's many wrestling fans who like to passive-aggressively debate about their favorite video games with their signs and loves roaring "BURN IT DOWN!", a phrase associated with Seth Rollins.
  • Giver of Lame Names:
    • She makes up unique moves for her Eevee — aka the Partner Movies from Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! — meaning that she's the one who calls the Dark-type move "Baddie Bad". She justifies the kiddish name by giving the excuse that she's 10.
    • Zigzagged for some of her Pokémon. Her Clodsire is called Blurpleberry for their shiny blue-purle coloration, her Galarian Unicorn is named Pastel due to their cotton candy mane, and her Cottonee gets Cloud Ear because of their fluffy appearance and little leaf ears. Her Dudunsparce, meanwhile, is called...Dunce.
  • The Gunslinger: She carries numerous types of guns on hand and uses them with proficiency, her most signature gun being her Cyber Tool, Descendant's Shadow, that's part pistol. It also makes her stand out compared to Hop and Alain, as both of them are blade wielders.
  • Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: When paired with Hop, Alain or Spencer, she usually goes at it with the gun part of her weapon plus her telekinesis, whereas they use daggers and swords.
  • Heroic Lineage: Her great-great-grandfather Alec Cerise was once a passenger on the Infinity Train whose journals were what helped Arcanum figure out that the Infinity Train was real. She herself obtained his flower highlights and pragmatic way of fighting, along with how they both chose a Squirtle as their Kanto starter. Moreover, if Arcanum Universe: Scarlet Heists is any indication, her father also moonlights as a superhero underneath her nose.
  • Hidden Depths:
  • Hot-Blooded: In her fight against Team Rocket over the Pokémon at her school, she roars "BURN IT DOWN!!!!" when Yamper and Eevee go off against Pelipper. She keeps this trait when she appears in Seeker of Crocus.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: She's ten-years-old and thus the smaller one compared to the high school senior Spencer.
  • Hypocritical Humor: She disliked Jesse Cosay's suggestion of calling the team of her, him, Lake and Spencer as "Team Dracula". She herself was willing to name one of her Eevee's moves Baddie Bad and her rare three-segmented Dudnsparce is simply called Dunce.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: She becomes close friends with Hop (who looks to be in his early teens) in Descendant's Shadow as he was the one who helped her become adjusted to the Data Train, the Rune Masquerade and even stood up for her when everyone accused her of being a thief. She later extends a friendship with Spencer (age 16) and Alain (who is a young adult).
  • In-Series Nickname: Her tamagotchi pet, Datchi-chan, calls her "Colli". In Descendant's Shadow, she gets constantly called "girl" due to the Cyber Warriors initially not seeing anything significant about her. Meowth calls her "Twizzler" due to her braided red hair looking like licorice. In Seeker of Crocus, Looker's file calls her "The Heriess".
  • Ironic Name: Her moniker is "Dark Princess", but many of her outfits are white: her school uniform, her Colette Cadieux attire has a white tee, and her Cyber Warrior armor is also pure white.
  • Irony:
    • She hates the idea of alternate selves when, in the context of the Crocusverse, she herself is an alternate version of the Seeker of Crocus Chloe Cerise and the author notes revealed that she's already met Soleil — who looks exactly like Chloe herself.
    • While she is a Fiery Redhead like most Chloes in the Blossomverse, the starter she gets from Professor Oak is a Squirtle. Albeit one whose signature move is Weather Ball (thus it will mostly be used in Sunny weather), but still.
    • Her two starter mons is Yamper (a puppy) and Eevee (a fennec fox). But the video game character Chloe likes is Kitty-N.
    • A lot of Chloe's angst in the anime and Blossomverse is how she hates being under someone's shadow. This Chloe is fine being called Descendant's Shadow and wishes to take on the legacy of the hero before her.
  • Labcoat of Science and Medicine: Wears one in Chapter 14 that has pink heart pockets, which is a Shout-Out to Penny Crygor, as she heads to the Eevee Evolution Lab. It also symbolizes how this Chloe respects her father for being a professor.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: The Light to Lake's Dark. She wears white and has pink and blue accessories, not to mention that she's bright, energetic and a romantic as well.
  • Line-of-Sight Name: Her alias came from how she recalled Colette from Ratatouille while making the titular dish and that she and her mom had lunch at "Cadieux bakery".
  • Love Epiphany: In Orchid Observer, a talk with Jesse has her realize that she's into both boys and girls, as she still feels her fondness for Hop but can't help but feel fuzzy when she thinks about Regina, helping to see herself as bi-curious.
  • Lunacy: Her motif is a blue moon. She wears a shirt that has a full blue moon, has a fanny pack with a similar moon, and her hairclip and sticker on her phone is a blue crescent moon. Finally, her Tamagotchi is a blue moon with a pink crescent. Descendant's Shadow reveals that the blue moon is the symbol of the Rune Masquerade and Arcanum in general.
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: She's a girly girl who plays light gun games and is forward in standing up to bullies, not to mention likes wrestling. Meanwhile, Spencer is shy and wears makeup, not to mention he's into rhythm games (his favorite character being the artist).
  • Meaningful Name: Colette is French for "People of Victory" and "Cadieux" means "Battle", so her name can be read as "A victorious person in battle", reflecting how she's a skilled Cyber Warrior and Trainer.
  • Mind over Matter: Her pen/rapier-gun lets her unleash the power of telekinesis. This was actually the power of Wakana Himika, the first modern Arcanum Hero. By Orchid Observer, she's gain enough experience points that she can use this power without even touching the tool, but rather through hand gestures. Pokémon wise, she has an Alcremie and later a Galarian Rapidash.
  • Mirror Character:
    • To May, surprisingly enough. Both are girly girls who have no idea who they want to be in life and have fathers with prestigious careers, but while May eventually goes on the path of Pokémon Coordinator, Chloe doesn't show that type of ambition (yet). They also get very, very angry if you steal their food, but May's anger is more in regards of someone stealing it to eat, whereas Chloe gets mad if someone snatches it without her permission.
    • She's a mirror of Penny as well. Both are girls who have an Eevee as a Pokémon — Chloe has an Eevee as her starter while Penny's party is nothing but Eevee evolutioins (barring Glaceon and Umbreon) — but Chloe is a cheerful girl who who wears her hair in a braid in a white school uniform, while Penny is cynical, has short blue and red hair, and wears a grey hoodie and leggings. Chloe lives a secret life as a Cyber Warrior and later someone who teleports dimensions, Penny is secretly the head of Team Star, Cassiopeia. Chloe is a Cyber Warrior who fights off data through the power of video games, Penny is a Playful Hacker. While they nickname their Pokémon, Chloe mostly names them after food, whereas Penny calls her Eevees with the same name, "Veevee".
  • Mix-and-Match Weapon: Her main weapon is a pistol with a rapier blade. Truth in Television as there are such things as pistol swords.
  • The Musketeer: A variation as her weapon is both a sword and a gun at the same time. She mainly uses the pistol part, but will dive in with the rapier blade if she doesn't have ammo.
  • The Nicknamer: She named her Shiny Clodsire "Blurpleberry" (because Shiny Clodsires are blue/purple and they became friends after sharing Oran berries), her Dudunsparce is simply "Dunce", and she has a Galarian Rapidash named "Pastel". Zigzagged however, given that her first four Pokémon — Yamper, Eevee, Squirtle, Alcremie — are not nicknamed.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Chloe just wanted to give a little girl her pen back. She ends up on an otherworldly train and labeled as a thief with threatens of memory erasure just for trying to be nice. Thankfully, the Commissioner realizes that she was stating the truth and allows both her memories to be kept and to become an official Cyber Warrior.
  • Noodle Incident:
    • She got her name "Descendant's Shadow" because she accidentally got her hands on a veteran-level weapon. We learn the story as to how in the Arcanum Archives story starring her.
    • If her Goh's reaction to "Evil Chloe" appearing when she retaliates with Bray stealing her whipped cream by spiking a baked apple with Tama-basco sauce is any indication, she's apparently shown a more vindictive side when it involves food in the past.
    • Not only has she caught Suicune, but Suicune came to her time of need when fighting a cursed wave right around the same time her Ash and Goh had to deal with an evil team hoping to summon Arceus.
  • Oral Fixation: Before she fights Ethan in a round of CarnEvil, she places an orangelle — candied orange peel dipped in chocolate — into her mouth.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: The only thing Chloe does to disguise herself as Colette is just wear a shirt and jeans, let her hair down and place a pair of glasses on her face. Even Team Rocket are a bit more creative with their outfits. Of course, this still fools Crocus-Ash until she shows off her Yamper.
  • The Pen Is Mightier: Her most dangerous weapon is an unassuming fountain pen...that can transform into a rapier/handgun combo. It turns out to be a Veteran-level Cyber Tool that gives her the power of telekinesis.
  • Personality Powers: Colette's life turned upside down when she found Eevee, Hamsa, and the Data Train. Naturally, the power of telekinesis is perfect for a girl trying to find her footing in life.
  • Pink Heroine: The heroine of Descendant's Shadow who has plenty of pink to share.
  • Pink Is Feminine: She has a lot of pink accessories like a pink fanny pack and her glasses.
  • Purely Aesthetic Glasses: She wears pink-framed glasses as part of her disguise. However, she can use them to scan for anomalies, like a glitch in the CarnEvil cabinet she and Ethan were playing. They were given to her by Patra when she was dragged into a Bust-a-Groove arcade cabinet and actually help her scan viruses.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Her weapon is a purple and black rapier-pistol combo, which is considered a Rank 4 Cyber Tool only meant for Veteran-level Cyber warriors, that gives her the power over telekinesis. To compare, the Alain in her world is a Rank 3 warrior and a Living Legend.
  • Queer Colors: She has accessories that are purple (and black) and pink/blue, and she considers herself bi-curious.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Lost, confused, being chased and threatened with memory erasure just for trying to do something nice, Chloe shouts at everyone who was chasing her on the Data Train when all she wanted to do was just give their stupid pen back.
  • Red Baron: "Descendant's Shadow", named after her weapon, reflecting how she is carrying the legacy of the original Dark Princess.
  • Recurring Element: Arcanum Universe: Scarlet Heists once again shows another Chloe being totally into CarnEvil.
  • The Reveal: Chapter 3 of Orchid Observer reveals that she's an alternate version of Chloe Cerise.
  • Serious Business:
    • She takes laser tag seriously and terrified her opponents with her backstory of a hitman wanting revenge for someone shooting their puppy.
    • Take her food without permission, and she will get her vengeance one way or another. Lampshaded by Hamsa who states that Bray stealing her whipped cream shouldn't warrant that big of a reaction.
  • Screw the Money, I Have Rules!: When Ethan tries to bribe her and Spencer to not expose how he was bullying Spencer (as if he gets in trouble one more time, he's repeating the school year), Colette gives a flat "No" in response.
  • Shipper on Deck: Implies that she doesn't mind if her Ash and Goh end up together, whether romantically or platonically, when she meets with Crocus Ash.
  • Ship Tease: With Hop, due to him being the reason she's able to become a Cyber Warrior. Ultimately, the author revealed that she and Hop are not a couple.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The first name of her alias comes from the character from Ratatouille, and she was cooking this at Home Ec. class when the name came to her.
    • When she describes her Serious Business laser tag game in Orchid Observer, the puppy in her "backstory" is named Keanu. Moreover, the idea of her taking laser tag seriously with a serious backstory comes from Webby Vanderquack.
    • Given her purple/black color scheme, her love of canines, and the martial arts she chooses is Muay Thai, combined with the numerous toku references out there, she's most likely referencing RJ, the Jungle Fury Wolf Ranger.
    • She's a kid-Bayonetta when she appears in Orchid Observer and Seeker of Crocus. She wears glasses, wield a firearm as her main weapon, her name is based on cherries, (Bayo's real name is Cereza, and Chloe's surname is Cerise), she wears her hair in a braid like Cereza, they have a small association with cats, and they both share an Alice Allusionnote . Colette even sticks something sweet in her mouth before she fights in CarnEvil, like Bayo has her love of lollipops.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: When her father explains his "reasons" why he keeps her in the Institute — a supposed prophecy from his grandfather that a Cerise born with flower highlights in their hair will lead them to an "unknown" future" — Chloe just asks him that if he wants her safe to teach her to be a Pokémon Trainer and have a partner for defensive purposes, with Yamper internally noting why he hasn't been there to fight alongside her prior to the Slateport water festival.
  • Status Quo Is God: Through author notes, she is not getting a Fuecoco (whom Green Phantom Queen finds to be adorable) because the fire croc would just hog all the spotlight.
  • Stock Shōnen Hero: Compared to Crocus Chloe being more of a shoujo heroine/calamity princess, Colette is hot-blooded, ready for a challenge, caring, and is blessed with a powerful Cyber Tool that gives her telekinesis, not to mention she's a toku hero in all but name. She's not an Idiot Hero since she's capable of analyzing her surroundings and quite crafty in solutions nor is she Oblivious to Love.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The girly-girl to Lake's tomboy as she's a peppy, flowing red haired pink and blue wearing girl who bakes sweets and loves French cuisine.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Croque monsieurnote , garlic fries and a glass of grape juice.
  • Truer to the Text: Compared to the Blossomverse iteration of Chloe, she's close to the anime's version of a friendly energetic girl who is willing to take risks and explore her surroundings and doesn't have the former's spite or temper. Green Phantom Queen revealed that events that would shape the Arcanum version of Chloe took place during Episode 49 of Journeys, around the time Chloe started growing as a character.

    Regina
Colette's long-distance girlfriend who has a Glaceon and is off on her own adventures.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Minor Ship Tease with Chloe in the anime, it's confirmed here that the two slowly see each other as girlfriends.
  • Ascended Extra: Was simply a character of the week in the anime, but in the Crocusverse she's now Colette's girlfriend who also joins in on Cyber Warrior shenanigans.
  • Hero of Another Story: She's traveling alongside her Glaceon, Mirchie, and is a Cyber Warrior in her own right alongside two other figures named Noah and Yuvi.
  • An Ice Person: Her signature Pokemon is her Glaceon, Mirchie.
  • Noodle Incident: How she became a Cyber Warrior is unclear. Seeker of Crocus has Gloria and Arcanum-Ryu mention something on the lines of her meeting Chloe, then interacting with blue fanatics that would eventually lead her to be partners with a virtual boy and a sexy vampire.
  • True Blue Feminity: She wears blue, she has the cyan colored Glaceon and she and Colette encountered one another during the meeting with the blue fanatics. Helps to contrast Colette's love of pink.
