Jeje sa JejeHired on to the merchant ship at the same time as Inda, Jeje intially thinks him stupid and encourages the other shiprats to tease him. However, she soon comes to realize otherwise and becomes one of his closest and most loyal friends.
- True Companions: with Inda and Tau, despite initially having a big crush on Tau. In the second book he starts reciprocating that crush, unknown to her, and then in the third they finally start sleeping together
Taumad Daraen/ DeiHired on to the merchant ship a few months before Inda and Jeje, Tau was raised by his single mother in a pleasure house. The skills in observation and manipulation that he learned there, as well as the strangely exorbitant education his mother gave him on the affairs of history and diplomacy, become invaluable later in the books.
