Tropes applying to multiple Valkyries

    A - M
  • Animal Motifs:
    • Kiana insists on a cat motif for herself, which shows in her Super Mode as White Comet and Divine Prayer where she summons giant mechanical cat paws out of nowhere (dubbed "Neko-Charm") and sometimes says "meow". She's also jokingly associated with tuna as a result of Memetic Mutation.
    • Bronya is heavily associated with rabbits. Her last name means "bunny" in Russian, she's a fan of the plush rabbit HOMU, and her support robot is called Project Bunny 19c.
    • Fu Hua is associated with various kinds of birds. One of her battlesuits is Phoenix, and as a part of her powers, she leaves "feathers" in people's minds which connect her soul to theirs.
    • Kallen's Sixth Serenade battlesuit has a strong crow/raven motif, to go along with her Phantom Thief persona.
    • Yae Sakura is associated primarily with foxes, with her having long animal-like ears, wearing a fox mask on her waist and even being controlled by a fox-like Honkai Beast.
  • Beauty, Brains and Brawn: Within the main Power Trio, Mei is the beauty (the oldest and most feminine out of the three), Bronya is the brains (the more knowledgeable and rational person), and Kiana is the brawn (the physically strongest out of the three).
  • BFS: Himeko and the Olenyeva twins use huge swords as their weapons of choice, with Himeko swinging them two-handed while the twins wield them with their cybernetic tails.
  • Big Eater: It's an apparent trait of the Kaslana family.
    • As Bronya said in one supplementary comic, Kiana's like a "starving demon" who tends to eat 6 bowls of rice on average.note  One of the "date" cutscenes with Theresa in the Dating Sim mode also has her mention Kiana's meals as taking a significant portion of the funding for St. Freya Academy. Even as Herrscher of the Void, she still seems to be obsessed with food.
Herrscher of the Void: Human, don't forget to make a dinner for me.
    • A supplementary comic and the special Dating Sim story (10 years in the past) show that Kallen can put food away just as well as Kiana can. In one special Cooking With Valkyries episode, Yae Sakura taught her on making rice balls; she ends up making hers really big. In another supplementary comic focused on Kallen's life, she and Otto stop by a coffee shop to eat. Otto, for his part, simply orders a cup of tea and a slice of cake. Kallen? A large assortment of pastries and sweets, and she even takes Otto's slice after eating all that.
  • Bottomless Magazines: Kiana, Kallen and Bronya can fire their weapons without ever worrying about ammo.
  • Braids of Action: Another running theme of the Kaslanas, as both Kiana and Kallen wear their hair in waist-length braids; Kiana has two while Kallen has one. Kiana's hair comes unbraided when she's taken over by Sirin. Once Sirin is defeated, Kiana rebraids her hair, but when she becomes Void Drifter her hair is worn loose again.
  • Charged Attack: Some characters have this, done by holding the main attack button. Some character skills, weapon skills and Stigmata effects specifically enhance charged attacks.
    • Bronya's artillery shots can be charged to become more powerful; her rocket launcher can fire a volley of powerful rockets, her cluster missile launcher can fire a multitude of Homing Projectiles, and her laser will do more Damage Over Time.
    • Himeko's normal sword strikes can be charged for her to do stronger slashes, although the exact form varies depending on her iteration.
    • Theresa's charged attacks are different depending on her iteration:
      • Valkyrie Pledge shoots out a powerful spear at her target.
      • Sakuno Rondo creates a circular blast of flame at the target's position. If the target has "sakura marks" (applied onto them by her normal attacks, Ultimate Evasion, QTE or Ultimate Skill), the charged attack detonates the marks, dealing heavy fire damage.
      • Violet Executer summons multiple swords from the ground in front of her that launches enemies upward. As Twilight Paladin, this is changed into a completely different one: after filling a special gauge by normal attack, she can use her charged attack to enter her Super Mode (detailed below). During this mode, she has another charged attack where she rushes towards the target for a quick stabbing attack and to close her distance. If she has scored 100+ combo hits, said attack will deal extra damage depending on how many hits she did (up to 200), after which her combo count is reset.
      • Celestial Hymn creates a "cyclone" of blades at the target's position that gives the "impair" debuff on enemies.
      • Luna Kindred turns her cross into an axe and smashes enemies with it, giving them the "bleeding" debuff.
    • Rita's charged attacks are distinct with each of her battlesuits, detailed in her character folder.
    • Liliya's has her jump up, and then fall down with a Sword Plant, dealing damage to enemies in a circular area around her. You can move the target circle while still holding the button, and then she'll fall by releasing it. This requires her to fill a special gauge first, by using normal attacks.
    • Rozaliya's is a Spin Attack that will make her dizzy if she spins too much.
    • Swallow Phantasm (Seele)'s is a series of small Sword Beams from her scythe that launches enemies upwards and gives enemies a special debuff. This requires her to fill a 2-part gauge, and 1 part is used everytime she launches the attack. In her Super Mode, her charged attack is changed to her performing a powerful circular slash after leaping towards the closest enemy; this will refill her gauge for a bit, but her Ultimate Evasion will be put in cooldown.
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff:
    • Kiana:
      • Valkyrie Ranger's QTE has her shooting at her enemies rapidly, with a final shot that inflicts the common "impared" debuff.
      • Divine Prayer has a passive skill where, whenever she's inactive, a lightning bolt will periodically strike the closest enemy, dealing lightning damage and the "impaired" debuff.
      • Herrscher of the Void's Charged Attack will leave a special debuff on all enemies hit that makes them take more damage from her attacks for 10 seconds.
      • Void Drifter (Augmented Valkyrie Ranger) can inflict a special debuff through her normal attack, Ultimate Evasion, QTE, or Ultimate Skill. Aside from increasing the damage the enemies take from attacks, it also empowers her branch attack and allows it to inflict the Time Slow debuff on them.
    • Mei's Lightning Empress suit is the only character that can naturally inflict the "conductive" debuff on enemies, which makes the afflicted enemies take more lightning damage. Her "signature" weapon, Mag-typhoon, can also do this.note
    • Bronya:
      • Yamabuki Armor's uncharged shot gives enemies the "impaired" state that lowers their defense. After her Augment Core upgrade, however, it gives an enemy an Area of Effect that weakens their damage output, makes enemy in the AOE less resistant to flinching and increases damage taken to their Armor Meter/Points (and slowly heals the whole team whenever the Deflector Shield "beats" and hits the affected enemies). Her Team Skill also puts the "impair" state on nearby enemies.
      • Herrscher of Reason can inflict a unique "analyse" debuff on enemies (through various means) that increases ice damage against them.
    • Theresa's Celestial Hymn suit specializes in dealing the "impaired" debuff on enemies through various means.
    • Sündenjäger (Kallen)'s normal combo attack ends with her doing a Multi-Directional Barrage that gives the enemies hit around her the "impaired" debuff. Her branch attack and Ultimate Evasion also gives a special debuff that increases her damage output against them and makes her Ultimate Skill do additional laser attacks from the sky.
    • Seele's Swallow Phantasm suit's Charged Attack effects give her enemies a special debuff that slows their movement and makes them take more damage from her attacks.
  • Discard and Draw: The "Augment Core" upgrades for the Valkyrie battlesuits tend to replace a good number of their skills with other, usually better, ones. They can be switched on and off, too.
  • Dynamic Entry: Most Valkyries will automatically attack when they're switched in and there's an enemy in range. Even better with the QTE system, but this requires you to trigger their "QTE condition" (usually by inflicting some kind of Status Ailment).
  • First Kiss: In a supplementary comic focusing on Bronya's backstory, at the end of the Azure Waters, she and Seele share their first kiss just before Seele fades away from reality due to the (failed) experiment done on her. They insisted that it wouldn't be their Last Kiss, and Seele's technically not dead (she's just unable to interact with the world or say anything to anyone, and vice versa), which leads to Bronya and Cocolia vowing to find a way to restore her.
  • Freudian Trio: Within the main three girls, Kiana is the Id (being more emotionally-driven), Bronya is the Superego (being more rational) and Mei is the Ego (trying to mediate between the two).
  • Friendly Rivalry: Kiana and Bronya have a bit of a rivalry, namely over Mei’s attention and affection, as well as other things. Despite that, the two are friends who will help each other when they need it.
  • Future Spandex: This is the general look for the MECH-type battlesuitsnote , as well as Mei's BIO-type Crimson Impulse suit and Bronya's PSY-type Yamabuki Armor suit.
  • Gratuitous English: A handful of Valkyries have English phrases mixed into their in-game dialogue. For instance, Kiana says "Aye aye, sir!", Bronya says "Yes, master", or "Yes, Captain." as Herrscher of Reason, and Theresa shouts "Hide and seek!". Kallen, as Sixth Serenade, shouts "Showtime!" and "It's my time!", and as Imayoh Ritual she says "Nice timing!" when you pick up HP drops. Roza also occasionally says "Yes, Captain" in gameplay.
  • Gratuitous Russian: Since Bronya, Seele, and the Olenyeva twins were raised in the same orphanage in Siberia, they all pepper their dialogue with Russian words; for instance, Bronya almost always uses "Da", "nyet", and "spasiba" instead of "yes", "no", and "thank you".
  • Guns Akimbo: Yet another theme with the Kaslanas. Kiana and Kallen both use paired pistols, and Siegfried used the Judgment of Shamash. Herrscher of the Void also carries dual pistols, but uses her spears as her projectile weapons; her idle animation has her summon the pistols out of Hammerspace as if to briefly examine them, then send them away. She only uses the pistols in her weapon skill's animation.
  • Hair Decorations:
    • In all of her battle outfits, Kiana wears a black hairband. Herrscher of the Void loses the hairband, but instead has a cross-shaped hair ornament. Kiana retains this ornament as Void Drifter (albeit modified).
    • Mei has different hair ornaments to tie her ponytail in each of her suits. As Lightning Empress she also has a small mask on her hair, as Crimson Impulse she has a V-shaped hairclip, and that's not mentioning her costumes yet.
    • Bronya has a pair of butterfly-shaped clips which secure her pigtails. It has different patterns in her different suits. As Herrscher of Reason, she has a mini crown-like ornament adorned with frilly blue cloth.
    • Himeko has a small black Nice Hat in her Blood Rose outfit. As Vermilion Knight, she has an orange wing-shaped ornament tying her hair.
    • Theresa as Valkyrie Pledge normally wears a nun's headdress, but she has an alternate costume that takes it off. Luna Kindred has 2 rose-shaped hair ornaments. Violet Executer has a nun's headdress made of metal, and Celestial Hymn has a different headdress with an attached cross ornament.
    • Fu Hua also has different ornament to tie her ponytail in each of her suits, but her signature one is on Valkyrie Accipiter's default outfit, the Divine Key, Fenghuang Down. In addition, Shadow Knight has 2 purple ornaments and Phoenix has a ring-shaped ornament with red feathers.
    • Rita wears a horned maid headdress as Umbral Rose and a normal black hairband as Phantom Iron. As Argent Knight, she wears a blue crown-like hair ornament that looks like it's made of ice, symbolizing the ice elemental damage she deals with this battlesuit.
    • Yae Sakura as Flame Sakitama wears long hairpins to tie her Prim and Proper Bun, as well as a horned hair ornament near one of her fox ears. Goshinsou Memento also has a blue clip near one of her fox ears.
    • Kallen has a small hairclip as Imayoh Ritual, cross-shaped hair ornaments as Sündenjäger, and a purple ribbon at the end of her braid as Sixth Serenade.
    • Liliya has a blue ribbon underneath her horn, while Roza has a pink ribbon underneath hers. They also have different hair ornaments at the opposite side of their horns.
    • Seele has a unique black-and-white one at the left side of her head, that also constantly emits blue flames.
  • Happy Holidays Dress: Some costume dresses available in the game are holiday-themed. Mei has a Christmas-themed one for her Shadow Dash suit, while Bronya has a Halloween-themed one for her Snowy Sniper suit, and Himeko as Vermilion Knight has a China dress for the Chinese New Year.
  • An Ice Person: There are several Valkyries that deal ice elemental damage and are able to slow down and even freeze opponents: Goshinsou Memento (Yae Sakura}, Argent Knight (Rita), Arctic Kriegsmesser (Himeko), Sixth Serenade (Kallen), Snowy Sniper (Bronya), Herrscher of Reason (Bronya).
  • Kicking Ass in All Her Finery:
    • An event-only costume for Valkyrie Bladestrike is her in a beautiful white dress.
    • Kiana's Winter Princess costume (for Divine Prayer) decks her in a white dress adorned with icy-looking crystals. Herrscher of the Void also has a costume (as part of the "Winter's Rhapsody" event) that makes her look like a Winter Royal Lady, as well as giving icy effects to her attacks (although without them dealing ice damage).
    • Bronya's Nightfall Witch costume (for Snowy Sniper) is a Halloween-themed dress. Herrscher of Reason's default outfit is also adorned with big frills.
    • Himeko's Blood Rose suit is a tattered, red-and-black version of this, but still looks rather elegant in its own way. Vermilion Knight also has a red China dress costume adorned with a feather boa (and her hair is also put in a Prim and Proper Bun).
    • Theresa has multiple outfits that fit this. As Twilight Paladin, she wears an elegant black and blue dress with a long gown. Combined with the multiple floating blades she uses, her fluid movements in this battlesuit are reminiscent of a dance. Celestial Hymn also wears a regal-looking white dress, while Luna Kindred's attire makes her look like an Elegant Gothic Lolita, fitting for a "vampire". A good number of her costumes are also rather fancy dresses.
    • Umbral Rose (Rita)'s Dame de Coeur outfit is a regal-looking red dress with a red coat and a small crown. Her Maid of Celestia (for Argent Knight) outfit is a heavily modified white China dress with a Cleavage Window, detached sleeves, and Navel Window. She also gets a wedding dress-like outfit for Argent Knight after an update.
    • Yae Sakura's Sublime Lotus outfit (for Gyakushin Miko) is a fancy white kimono, while her Dream Raiment outfit (for Flame Sakitama) looks like a wedding dress.
    • One of Sündenjäger (Kallen)'s outfit is a Halloween-themed dress.
    • Seele's Papilio Lily outfit is a beautiful white summer dress, complete with Nice Hat.
  • Lethal Chef: This seems to be a trait for the Kaslana family.
    • Kiana's quite clumsy when it comes to cooking. Either the resulting dish ends up distorted because of her methods, or it's a mishmash of unfitting ingredients that she thought would taste unique. Specific instances include:
      • It's the focus of the interaction with her in the Dating Sim mode, with her trying to be a better cook.note
      • In the Chinese New Year event, where the Valkyries cook a lot of food for a feast party, she's paired with Fu Hua, who deliberately makes her do simpler stuff in order to keep her from ruining the cooking.
      • In one of the side comics, she at least knows one thing she can cook well: pizza toasts, which she learned from her father (who's revealed to be a similarly bad cook, as well).
    • As shown in the Chinese New Year event, Kallen's cooking skills are as atrocious as Kiana's. Her attempt at making a stargazy pie ends up with it turning into charcoal, while the soup she made turns green. The Captain lampshades that House Kaslana should never be allowed to cook again. In the "Odd Drifter" event, she claims that her ELF companion, Selune's Elegy, is the one to cook for her.
  • Mission Control: In Chapters 1 to 3 in the Story Mode, Himeko and Theresa take turns to talk to Kiana, Mei and Bronya in the missions, even if you use any of the two. In the Chapter Xuanyuan side story, Himeko joins Kiana, Mei and Bronya in the field, while Fu Hua becomes part of the mission control.
  • Mystical White Hair:
    • The Kaslana family is noted as being very resistant to Honkai corruption, and Siegfried, Kallen, and Kiana all have white hair. This also applies to Theresa since Kallen's genes were used in her creation (although her hair turns pink as Sakuno Rondo due to Higokumaru's influence).
    • As Phoenix, Fu Hua's hair is white with red streaks.

    N - Z
  • Nerf Arm: Mei and Sakura have a number of blades from events that appear like Joke Items, like a candy cane or even a really stiff fish, yet they are 5-star weapons, thus powerful blades (although less powerful than "regular" 5-star blades).
  • One-Handed Zweihänder: Played with by Himeko and the Olenyeva twins, who all wield huge swords in their combat styles. Himeko, during battle, will swing her sword by both hands, but in her victory pose for most of her battlesuits, she's balancing the sword on her shoulder with one hand and with no apparent effort. The Olenyeva twins, on the other hand, each have a tail with a cybernetic claw that they use to wield their swords for attacks, but in their victory poses, while Roza is holding her sword over her head with one hand (by the body and not the handle), Liliya is doing a Sword Drag with both hands and struggling to heft it without her tail.
  • Pervert Revenge Mode: On The Bridge, if you touch an affection lv. 1 Valkyrie's chest or groin area three times in a row, she will send you back to the loading screen. (At higher affection levels, they'll act embarrassed and blush.) The method of doing so depends on who you've put on the bridge:
    • Kiana simply kicks you out.
    • Special mention goes to Mei, where it's implied that her Herrscher side proceeds to electrocute you.
    • Sakura slices you in seconds.
    • Theresa clutches her fist and punches you out.
    • Himeko gives you an Armor-Piercing Slap.
    • Bronya summons her Project Bunny and then shoots you with its cannon.
  • Playing with Fire:
    • 2 of Himeko's suits specialize in dealing fire damage: Blood Rose and Vermilion Knight.
    • Downplayed with Bronya's Dimension Breaker suit: she can deal extra fire damage in her normal/charged attacks and her QTE also deals repeated fire damage to enemies in a large radius. She still mainly deals physical damage, though.
    • As Sakuno Rondo, Theresa gains the ability to control fire and attack enemies with it.
    • As Flame Sakitama, Yae Sakura is learning to control the Honkai power within her (the fox beast who can control fire), making her able to coat her sword in flames for her attacks.
    • By its very nature, Fu Hua can utilize flames in her attacks as Phoenix.
  • Reduce Aggro: All cases overlap with Draw Aggro.
    • Shadow Dash (Mei) can use her shadow clones to attack and distract opponents, making them attack the clone instead of her.
    • In co-op play, Yamabuki Armor (Bronya) has a team skill that draws the enemies' aggro towards her while lowering their defenses, making them open to her teammates.
    • Wolf's Dawn (Bronya) has her Project Bunny 19c detached from her, which will make the enemies attack it instead of her. In co-op plays, her team skill is to make the enemies attracted to Project Bunny.
    • Battle Storm (Himeko)'s team skill in co-op play is an attack that draws the attention of the enemies hit towards her, while also buffing her defense.
  • Refugee from TV Land: Goushinsou Memento and the playable Imayoh Ritual are both from an in-universe video game called "Kallen Fantasy VII" made by Otto himself. Goushinsou Memento is described as a runaway failed experiment who goes on a rampage until she meets Kallen.
  • Rivals Team Up: In the "Summer Wars" event, Kiana and Bronya agree to team up to get the mysterious island treasure for Mei. The narration mentions that there's no knowing what would happen if the two actually get the treasure.
  • Romantic Two-Girl Friendship: Bronya and Seele have deeply bonded with each other, and although it has been chaste aside from a mutual First Kiss, there is a strong sense of "more than friends but less than lovers" to their interactions. Seele specifically thinks of herself and Bronya as "sisters".
  • School Uniforms Are the New Black: Most of the Valkyries have a battlesuit with a "Valkyrie" naming scheme. For Kiana, Mei, Bronya and Fu Hua, it's their school uniform: Valkyrie Ranger, Valkyrie Bladestrike, Valkyrie Chariot, and Valkyrie Accipiter, respectively. Himeko's Valkyrie Triumph suit is her teacher's uniform, while Theresa's Valkyrie Pledge suit is her normal attire as St. Freya's principal.
  • Shock and Awe:
    • Mei's power as the 3rd Herrscher is manipulation of electricity.
      • As Lightning Empress, she's stated to be able to control her lightning power by her own mind and limit her Herrscher self's influence on her. She can use lightning attacks to heavily damage and paralyze enemies.
      • After the Augment Core upgrade, Valkyrie Bladestrike shocks enemies in the last part of her normal combo, throws electric disks as her Dash Attack (that consumes "ammo" and is replenished through normal attacks), and casts lightning when entering Super Mode.
    • Himeko's Scarlet Fusion suit lets her deal extra lightning damage in her attacks and paralyze enemies.
    • Theresa's Valkyrie Pledge suit specializes in dealing lightning damage.
    • Fu Hua as Shadow Knight can utilize lightning to empower her attacks, mostly in her Super Mode.
    • As Phantom Iron, Rita can utilize lightning in her attacks. Her Stalker Carbon robot can also deal lightning damage.
  • Sinister Scythe: Rita and Seele both wield scythes, and both have dark aspects to their characters—Rita is an agent for Otto, and the force inside Seele that manifests as her Stigmata mark sometimes takes over Seele and operates on its own.
  • Spin Attack:
    • Aside from Crimson Impulse's Shoryuken attack, Lightning Empress' branch attack is Mei doing up to 3 circular slashes that deal lightning elemental damage around her.
    • Himeko has multiple battlesuits with this type of attack.
      • As Battle Storm, her QTE and Ultimate Skill is a spinning attack with her sword that hits multiple times. Arctic Kriegsmesser's QTE and Ultimate Skill are similar, but enhanced with ice damage and more powerful.
      • In a variant, Blood Rose's Charged Attack has her do her usual slashing combo, then leaping up and performing a vertical spinning slash 2 times before a downward chop onto the ground. Her QTE is a more powerful version of it, and in her Super Mode she can spin a lot more times.
      • Vermilion Knight's Ultimate Skill starts with her performing a few spinning slashes with her sword enhanced.
    • Luna Kindred's normal attacks are sets of spinning attacks with her 2 swords. Her Ultimate Skill has Theresa spin while swinging her axe twice; she then jumps up and slams it to the ground, dealing damage in an area.
    • Rita and Seele's scythe attacks generally involve a lot of acrobatic spinning and twirling.
    • Rozaliya's Charged Attack is to spin with her sword.
  • Super Mode: Some Ultimate Skills make the particular battlesuits enter a powerful mode (usually called "Burst Mode" in game) that strengthens their attacks in some way. Some other battlesuits may also enter a powerful mode in some other way. Not all Super Mode are designated as "Burst Mode" in-game.note
    • White Comet's is a Burst Mode that makes her attacks accompanied with giant robotic cat paws from dimensional holes, giving her more power and range; her SP will be slowly depleted to zero while it's in use. She also gains increased defense and resistance to flinching.
    • Divine Prayer's is a Burst Mode similar to White Comet's, but also activates Time Fracture for the whole duration and slowly heals the whole team. Said effects will still be active even if you switch her out for another teammate. Her SP will be slowly depleted to zero while it's in use.
    • Herrscher of the Void's Charged Attack activates "Herrscher Mode" where, after a Badass Fingersnap attack that causes a large explosion, her attacks are faster and enhanced, and she moves faster as well. It runs off the special 2-part gauge above the HP gauge.
    • Valkyrie Bladestrike's ultimate skill is a Burst Mode that gives her a blade aura that gives her attacks greatly increased reach, allowing her to attack multiple opponents at once.
    • If Crimson Impulse reaches SS rank, she can gain a sub-skill that modifies her ultimate skill so that it also elongates her sword's reach for a duration like Valkyrie Bladestrike after the initial Sword Beam.
    • Yamabuki Armor can enter a Burst Mode where she switches into melee combat mode with Project Bunny's powerful punches until her SP is depleted. If the enemies have the "impaired" status (whether by using her uncharged shots, team skill or some other means), the initial activation will put the enemies in a time-slowed state; when she punches the enemies in that state, she can heal the whole team with each punch. After the Augment Core upgrade, her attacks during Ultimate now drag enemies towards her and put them in a time-slowed state, and her Deflector Shield continuously regenerates in the duration. It also strengthens the heal from the shield "beats" (the "beats" themselves are faster too), and this state will stay active even if you switch her out.
    • Herrscher of Reason enters a "bike mode" where she drives around with her bike, repeatedly spawning laser cannons that spam beams at the enemies, and can also attack with the bike itself. She also slowly heals herself for as long as the mode lasts.
    • Scarlet Fusion's Burst Mode strengthens her normal attacks and lets her shoot out powerful Sword Beams for each sword strikes for a duration.
    • Blood Rose's Burst Mode strengthens her normal attacks, makes them faster and deal more hits, increases her defense and gives her immunity to Standard Status Effects, and will engulf the enemies in flames for further damage. Unlike other Super Modes, however, hers is Cast from Hit Points per second, although it can be stopped manually.
    • Arctic Kriegsmesser can enter one by using her Charged Attack. It'll make her subsequent sword attacks be followed by extra icy slashes while depleting her special meter as long as it's active. It's deactivated by either evading, getting interrupted (note that she gains increased resistance to flinching during this), switching out, or having the meter depleted.
    • Sakuno Rondo's Burst Mode makes her attacks deal more fire damage, and allows her to repeatedly apply the "Burning Sakura Mark" on enemies that will then explode, dealing extra fire damage.
    • Violet Executer's Burst Mode changes her normal attacks to her throwing enlarged copies of her cross at enemies, dealing significant damage at each attack and repeatedly stunning them (with a chance). She also has a passive skill that increases the team's total damage output while using Burst Mode.
      • As Twilight Paladin, however, she has a new one (not a Burst Mode) that is triggered by using her Charged Attack after her special gauge is full (either by normal attacks or Ultimate Skill). During this mode, she gains a new, more powerful attack combo that can deal a lot of hits and a special Charged Attack.
    • During Shadow Knight's Burst Mode, her attacks are enhanced with lightning and her special attacks are modified to become more powerful.
    • Night Squire's Burst Mode lets her slow down and bleed enemies around her and attack much faster with random attacks. It also fills her special gauge to full, allowing her attacks to be enhanced during the mode.
    • Gyakushin Miko's Burst Mode changes her normal attacks into her slash-through attacks, and she's also immune to attacks while slashing. This allows her to perform her "sakura mark burst" attacks more often.
    • Flame Sakitama enters one after using her Ultimate Skill, where the enemies are time-slowed and she attacks much faster.
    • Sündenjäger deploys her arsenal of firearms, turning her basic attacks to a barrage of bullets and missiles.
    • Sixth Serenade enters one after using her Ultimate Skill, where her special gauge regenerates quickly by itself and she gains more elemental damage.
    • Phantom Iron's Charged Attack lets her enter a mode where she gains increased speed and her attacks are laced with lightning, but it will fill a green gauge slowly; whenever she evades an attack or kills an enemy, she loses some of the "green units". When it's filled to full, she enters an overheat-like state where she moves slower.
    • Argent Knight's Burst Mode empowers her attacks, making her do more damage and freeze her enemies more often. It also comes with an ultimate attack that ends the mode, where Rita deals high ice damage and freezes enemies on a large radius. Activating it will also heal herself for some amount.
    • Seele's is a powerful wide-area attack that also makes her enter Burst Mode, courtesy of her momentary Split-Personality Takeover. Aside from increased attack power and speed, she gets stronger (and the duration of the mode gets longer) the more she kills enemies.
  • Sword Lines:
    • Mei and Sakura's own varies by the color of the katana; certain swords also have unique lines, such as Magstorm's 3 parallel blue lines in each swing or Jizo Mitama's lines that resemble dark snakes. For the PRI-ARM weapons (introduced in 3.4), Mag-typhoon and Frozen Naraka will have the light trails at all times, even when the swords are not used in attacks.
    • Himeko's own looks rougher than Mei's, because she swings her BFS slower. This is the same for the other BFS wielders, Rozaliya and Liliya.
    • Rita's, meanwhile, are tied to her battlesuits rather than her weapon. Umbral Rose's scythe lines are dark rose red, occasionally with rose petals, while Phantom Iron's lines are green with trails of Tron Lines and Argent Knight's are blue and black lines. Her costumes also change the lines' effects, unlike other characters.
    • Seele's lines are violet but they turn red and black when she enters Super Mode.
    • Theresa as Luna Kindred has red trails following her red swords' attack movement. In a variant, Twilight Paladin ("augmented" Violet Executer) will gain light blue trails for her flying swords' swing moves.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The dynamic between Kiana and Mei. Kiana is the tomboy, enjoying games and manga and opting for shorts with most of her battle suits and costumes. Mei is the girly girl; she cooks and opts to wear skirts and dresses for many of her battlesuits and costumes.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Different updates to the game did this for some of the Valkyries:
    • Version 2.9 gave Mei's Valkyrie Bladestrike a major overhaul called "Augment Core", modifying many of her skills and attacks and making her more powerful and useful. It also came with a new outfit called "Striker Fulminata" where she has shorter hair. In-story, all of these augments are made by Tesla of Anti-Entropy to aid her.
    • Version 3.0 gave Bronya's Yamabuki Armor its own Augment Core, also made by Dr. Tesla. Like Valkyrie Bladestrike, it modified many of her skills and attacks, making her more powerful and useful, especially for support. It also came with a new outfit called "Drive Kometa".
    • Version 3.3 introduced Kiana's Augment Core upgrade for Valkyrie Ranger called Void Drifter. It improves her playstyle greatly, allowing her to dish out much more damage, dash faster and support her teammates better. It also coincides with the moment in the story where, after some pep talk from "Himeko" inside her mind, she manages to use some of Herrscher of the Void's powers by her sheer will, allowing her to overpower the Honkai Beasts around her.
    • Version 3.4 marks the first Augment Core upgrade for an S-rank Valkyrie: Theresa's Violet Executer suit, called "Twilight Paladin". It increases the range of her attacks and gives her access to a Super Mode that modifies her attacks into more powerful ones; unlike her regular self, this doesn't cost SP and only requires her to fill a gauge. Her new Ultimate Skill is her dealing damage in a large AOE with her blades and her cross that also empowers her afterwards.
  • Victory Pose: After you complete a solo stage, the camera will pan closer to your Valkyrie as they perform some animation or pose, such as Kiana brandishing her guns and winking at the camera or Project Bunny cradling Bronya in its hand.
  • Video Game Dashing: The "dodge" button makes the character do a short dash move: Mei, Bronya and Sakura do a Flash Step; Fu Hua and Kallen slide a short distance; Kiana, Theresa and Himeko do short hops/rolls; and Rita, the Olenyeva twins and Seele briefly disappear and then reappear a short distance later. The first and second cases also have afterimages trailing from their bodies. Aside from aiding with movement, the button is also used to dodge incoming attacks; if timed right, it means you've successfully done an "Ultimate Evasion" and will trigger its effects (depending on the character). You can only do the dodge move twice (or once, for a few characters) in a row; it's to prevent the player from spamming it too much.
  • Walking Swimsuit Scene: Most of the Valkyries have at least one battlesuit which has a swimsuit as an optional outfit that can be worn into battle. The exceptions are Fu Hua, Kallen and the Olenyeva twins, who (currently) don't have any such option, and Seele and Herrscher of the Void, whose outfits are more like sundresses than actual swimsuits.
  • You Gotta Have Blue Hair:
    • Yae Sakura has pink hair, which Theresa also acquires as Sakuno Rondo.
    • Lili has blue hair, while Roza's is pink.
    • Seele's hair is a very dark blue, with purplish-blue shades.

Tropes for the individual Valkyries:

    Kiana Kaslana

Voiced by: Shanxin (Chinese), Rie Kugimiya (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/white_comet.png
The Knight Errant

The Protagonist of the story. She is the 69th successor of the Kaslana family and daughter to Siegfried Kaslana and Cecilia Schariac. Her mother died when she was young and her father later abandoned her. She attended various schools before ending up in the same school as Mei and Bronya. She (along with her two friends) later joins Schicksal, enrolls in St. Freya Academy and becomes a Valkyrie to find out what happened to her parents. Kiana also has rather open feelings for Mei, something that (among other things) sparks her rivalry with Bronya.

Her battlesuits are White Comet (B-rank MECH-type), Valkyrie Ranger (A MECH), Knight Moonbeam (S BIO), Divine Prayer (A PSY) and Herrscher of the Void (S BIO, Awakened Knight Moonbeam).

  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: Two stages of Ch. 11-EX take place in Kiana's mind.
    • The first one is Kiana confronting "HER" (Sirin), who tried to break her mind in order to take over her body again. Kiana's inner consciousness is depicted as an empty, broken hall floating in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by flying pictures of her and her friends (representing her memories), all in Deliberately Monochrome; when she gets to the end of the stage, suddenly a giant, shining eye opens in the sky, representing "HER". "SHE" made her fight an illusion of Mei and Theresa, then Fu Hua (who, as "SHE" noted, kidnapped her and took her to Otto), and then multitudes of the previous K-400 series clones (which took the form of White Comet Kiana). Later, she thought that it was a nightmare that she had since 3 months agoSpoilers! , but Phoenix Fu Hua (as a spirit) says that they aren't just nightmares—"SHE" always tries to take over her whenever Kiana has those nightmares.
    • The second one is Kiana confronting "HER" again, but this time Fu Hua helps her; the former also summons an illusion of Himeko to battle "HER". In the end, "SHE" is defeated and "restrained" by Fu Hua, but the latter notes at the end of the chapter that "SHE" may come back again someday.
  • BFG: She uses one as her Ultimate Skill in both her Valkyrie Ranger and her Knight Moonbeam battlesuits.
  • Big Damn Heroes: In one supplementary comic, when Herrscher-Mei is at the mercy of Welt (the Herrscher affiliated with Anti-Entropy), Kiana comes in by dive-kicking him from above and goes to fight him with her new White Comet outfit, but not before lifting Mei in a Bridal Carry and proclaiming that "your knight has come to save the princess".
  • Big "NO!": Kiana does this scream in Chapter 11's World 3 when Mei is suddenly killed.
  • Book Dumb: Kiana's a really poor student. She admits once that all she ever reads is manga, which is why she fails a lot in her exams. That said, her combat capabilities are noted to be strong and full of potential.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: The main reason why she fails her exams is due to her laziness. However as noted by Mei and others, Kiana has the potential to be a skilled and intelligent Valkyrie if she studies more seriously. This is implemented in-game in the dorms; if you have the Wooden Desk or a similar piece of furniture and drag any version of Kiana to it, instead of sitting and using the laptop when she’s dropped, she will land beside the desk and have a foot-stomping tantrum.
  • Broken Pedestal: While she wasn't all that chummy with Fu Hua from the get-go, Kiana did at least respect her as a reliable senior. However, she was clearly hurt when Fu Hua kidnapped her and handed her over to Otto. When Kiana encounters her again later (Fu Hua's spirit) in Chapter 11-EX, Kiana gives her an angry What the Hell, Hero? speech and says she wants nothing to do with her anymore. Downplayed later when she sees that Fu Hua truly does regret what happened and Kiana forgives her.
  • Daddy's Girl: As she grew up only with her father, she became attached to him as a result and picked up a good number of his traits. His disappearance causes her to hate him for making her miss him so much.
  • Damsel in Distress: At the end of Chapter 6, Fu Hua defeats Kiana when she turns berserk and takes her to Schicksal's main HQ. Theresa vows to rescue her, which happens in Ch. 7.
  • Death from Above: The last part of Void Drifter's branch attack, as well as her QTE, has her falling down onto her enemies with her "lance", striking enemies in an area and giving them her special debuff.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: A more platonic example. She initially had little respect towards Himeko (whom she calls "aunt"), but over the years she has come to show some respect to her teacher, culminating in her becoming the source of Kiana's resolve at the end of ch. 11-EX.
  • Driven to Suicide: At some point after her Herrscher powers are suppressed, she attempted to commit suicide to prevent Sirin from taking over her again. Thankfully, Fu Hua's spirit stopped her from doing so.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: As Herrscher of the Void, her voice is much deeper, with Kiana's and Sirin's voice superimposed, a robotic tone and a slight echo.
  • Expy: Kiana's the main heroine who wields two guns and is a Kick Chick, is part of a Power Trio of school friends, is very emotionally-driven, a Lethal Chef, a Book Dumb and strong fighter, is a clone of a major character, has a Superpowered Evil Side that takes her over and wants to destroy the world, and a red hero with a sword performs a Heroic Sacrifice to stop her (although in Himeko's case, it's lethal) and she later learns to use her evil side's power for herself. She's definitely one of Noel Vermillion and Mu-12.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Her outfit as Void Drifter has a longer glove on her left hand, and she also wears a stocking on her right leg.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Part of the backstory mentions that some time after Cecilia's death, Siegfried decided to run away from the Schicksal (helped by Theresa), taking Kiana with him. However, the Extra Story "Everlasting Memory" has Otto mention that he has Kiana in his custody, while Siegfried instead took something called "Experiment K423" with him. Then Chapter 7 of the Story Mode reveals that the playable Kiana (whose story we follow up to this chapter) is actually Experiment K423.
    • In the Dorm, you may occasionally see Kiana muttering to herself that she had a nightmare where she hurts Mei. She's really angry at such a thought and hopes that that will never happen in real life. In story mode, as Herrscher of the Void she not only beats Mei quite badly, she later steals Mei's Herrscher Core, leaving her in critical condition (though she recovers later).
  • Frickin' Laser Beams: Knight Moonbeam's QTE attack rains homing lasers on the battlefield.
  • Gamer Chick: Kiana enjoys video games, but always loses to Bronya.
  • Giant Foot of Stomping: With White Comet or Divine Prayer, certain attacks make her summon giant robotic cat paws from dimensional holes to strike her foes, akin to Bayonetta's Wicked Weaves.
  • Gun Fu: Kiana’s fighting style in all of her battle suits consists either of ranged gun shots, or physically attacking using her guns.
  • Gun Twirling: Kiana briefly twirls her right-hand pistol during her victory pose.
  • Heads I Win, Tails You Lose: The fight against Herrscher of the Void at the end of Chapter 8 will end before you can deplete the boss' health, and then the scene afterwards shows her overpowering you.
  • He’s Back: Kiana spends two entire chapters in complete disarray following the conclusion of Chapter IX, where Himeko sacrifices herself to suppress the Herrscher of the Void and bring Kiana back to her senses. Unable to cope with the guilt of indirectly killing a friend (among other things), she goes missing for several months, and it's only in Chapter XI-EX that we get back to her side of the story, still visibly reeling from the emotional trauma. It takes a Honkai attack on Arc City and a little pep talk from Himeko's ghost for Kiana to take up arms again and use part of her Herrscher powers to fight the beasts. This is manifested into gameplay as the Void Drifter suit.
  • Humans Are Insects: Herrscher of the Void's view about humans, which Himeko proceeds to make fun of.
  • Idiot Hero: As revealed in some levels' pre-battle dialogue, Kiana is very neglectful in her studies and frequently fails her exams at St. Freya. She's also simple-minded, stubborn and very emotionally-driven, which sometimes makes her come off as childish.
  • Improvised Platform: Herrscher of the Void, in a cutscene, is able to walk in the air with small shining platforms under her feet.
  • Kick Chick: Her melee attacks, especially as White Comet, often are based around kicks.
  • Knight of Cerebus: With the introduction of Herrscher of the Void, everything goes downhill, fast.
  • Load-Bearing Boss: The moment Himeko injects the Honkai-neutralizing vaccine into her, the Pocket Dimension they're in collapses.
  • Mascot: She's one for miHoYo as a whole, as she first appeared in their very first game, Fly Me 2 The Moon (also known as "Houkai 1st") and their later games also feature her in some form.
  • Meaningful Echo:
    • A cutscene in ch. 11-EX has her echoing what her teacher Himeko says at ch. 9 as her Famous Last Words:
Kiana: I will change this imperfect world... into the one I want!
    • A subtler gameplay example: Void Drifter's optimal gameplay is to use her normal attack or QTE to give her special debuff to enemies, then use her branch attack sequence twice until she "overheats", then cool it down with her Ultimate Skill, and repeat her branch attack again until she overheats again and has to switch out. This is similar to how Himeko as Vermilion Knight plays, only that she can sustain it longer because she can use her low-cost Ultimate Skill multiple times (but only when she has enough SP to be able to repeat it). Their QTE attacks are also similar.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Herrscher of the Void fights differently from any other Kiana. She almost never uses her guns, her long-ranged attacks are flexible, and she has a Charged Attack instead of other Kianas' branch attacks. She's also among the few (such as her other suit, Knight Moonbeam) who's able to activate Ultimate Evasion's effectsnote  without actually evading an attack; instead, she can phase through enemies with her evasion move to activate it.
  • The Medic: Kiana’s Divine Prayer battle suit serves as this, with its ability to heal the entire party with her normal attacks (with a chance), team skill, Ultimate Evasion, QTE, and Ultimate Skill.
  • Meaningful Name: Kiana's name is taken from the moon goddess of Hindu Mythology. As such, she has many moon-related themes, including her small, crescent moon-shaped Idiot Hair.
  • Mismatched Eyes: In her childhood, she had her right eye covered in bandages; when it's opened, her right eye is gold. It's blue in the present, however. It's part of her having the 2nd Herrscher's core put into her. As Void Drifter, her right eye turns gold again after her Herrscher power gets partially unsealed, giving her control over it.
  • The Musketeer: Void Drifter changes her fighting style from pure gunner to gun and sword-like lance.
  • Multi-Directional Barrage: Knight Moonbeam's branch attack is to spin around while firing her guns to all directions.
  • Mythology Gag: Herrscher of the Void is heavily based on the final story boss of this game's predecessor Benghuai Xueyuan (aka Guns GirlZ) God Kiana.
  • Nerd Action Hero: She's a comic book geek and a Gamer Chick while simultaneously being a Honkai asskicker.
  • Oh, Crap!: Herrscher of the Void seem to dread the Vermilion Knight armor Himeko wears, as she recognized the Herrscher core used to power it, giving it the similar power as Judgement of Shamash's.
  • Out of Focus: From chapter 9-EX to 11, the story doesn't put focus on Kiana as she's somehow missing. She only has a cameo in a photo, which the other good guys are using to try to look for her. She comes back to focus in ch. 11-EX, which shows her current whereabouts: the wreckage of Arc City.
  • Overheating: In a variant, Void Drifter's branch attack fills a gauge. When it's full, she'll stun both herself and the enemies around her for 3 seconds, then the gauge slowly empties, during which she cannot use her branch attack. The only way to get out of said stun (aside from not overusing it in the first place) is 1) by switching out, or 2) by using her Ultimate Skill. Ultimate Evasion and the last strike of her normal combo will also deplete the gauge by a bit. In Coop Multiplayer, it's more lenient: all parts of her normal combo can deplete the gauge bit by bit, and her team skill can outright empty it. Bizarrely, she also has a sub-skill that allows her to buff her teammates by intentionally filling her special gauge to full.
  • Parental Abandonment: Kiana's mother died when she was young, and her father abandoned her some years after. As shown in a supplementary comic, she doesn't seem to remember where her father went after a certain event where he lost his left arm after using his Judgment of Shamash's fully released state. This is lampshaded by herself both in game and in the comic, where she says that she wants to beat him so badly for making her miss him so much.
  • Pillar of Light: More like "Pillar of Darkness", but Void Drifter's Ultimate Skill has her creating a pillar-like burst of spatial collapse around her, launching enemies upwards.
  • Pocket Dimension: The battle between Herrscher of The Void against Himeko (in her Vermilion Knight battlesuit) takes place in one.
  • Power Floats: Herrscher of the Void always floats, like Bronya.
  • Power Gives You Wings: At the end of ch. 6 in story mode, when her Herrscher side begins to manifest, Kiana develops glowing wings. This is reflected for the final level by Kiana's battlesuit switching from White Comet to Knight Moonbeam.
  • Power Makes Your Hair Grow: Herrscher of the Void has longer and looser hair than normal Kiana.
  • Power Parasite: Herrscher of the Void in Chapter 9 defeats Mei and then takes out her Herrscher core, critically injuring her in the process. This gives her access to Mei's abilities; in a later boss fight she can utilize lightning attacks as well, and becomes practically immune to lightning damage.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: Herrscher of the Void merely teleports away when her hit points reach zero rather than collapse like Kiana's other battlesuits.
  • Sean Connery Is About to Shoot You: In her Victory Pose, she aims a pistol at the camera then winks.
  • Sempai/Kohai: In the Japanese voiceover, she addresses Mei as "Mei-senpai".
  • Sexy Scandinavian: Her place of birth is Northern Europe.
  • Short-Range Guy, Long-Range Guy: As White Comet and Divine Prayer, she fights mostly in melee. As Valkyrie Ranger and Knight Moonbeam, she fights at range with her guns.
  • Skyward Scream: Herrscher of the Void's final act after Himeko successfully injects the Honkai-neutralizing serum into her.
  • Space Master: As the "Herrscher of the Void", she's able to manipulate spacetime, allowing herself to teleport around, distort spacetime to create damaging spatial collapses, and create dimensional portals, from which she can shoot spikes and summon Honkai Beasts, as well as (in story) turn any ranged attack back to the attacker (which is reused for her playable self as her Ultimate Skill). Later on, normal Kiana manages to use some of the Herrscher's powers, becoming Void Drifter in the process.
  • Spanner in the Works: One of the supplementary comics mentions that she stands in the way of Bronya and Cocolia trying to use Mei for their plans.
  • Stat Sticks: Herrscher of the Void, unlike other Kianas, doesn't actually use her guns in her normal attacks. Her Idle Animation shows that she puts her guns inside one of her portals. She does, however, visibly attack with the guns if you choose to activate the weapon's active skill.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: In a supplementary comic, her eyes turn gold during certain moments, most notably when she recalls her old memories. In the game itself, this happens in the climax of Chapter 6 when she realized that all of her adventures from Chapter 5 isn't real and she uses the "magic words" that she had used throughout the chapter, and later, as her will gets taken over by the 2nd Herrscher (in Chapter 8). In Ch. 11-EX, her right eye turns gold again after she uses some of the Herrscher's powers, becoming Void Drifter.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: By virtue of having the 2nd Herrscher's core inside her body, Kiana gets a Herrscher side that's awakened at the end of Chapter 8, courtesy of Otto from the previous chapter. She aims for humanity's destruction as a "Honkai agent" and she's much more powerful than her regular self. Chapter 9 shows that this evil side is specifically Sirin's consciousness, brought out from the Herrscher core inside Kiana's body.
  • Symbolic Wings: Aside from the Valkyrie symbol (a stylized pair of wings) that many Valkyries share, as Knight Moonbeam she has wings of light trailing off her back. Herrscher of the Void, meanwhile, has only one proper wing, while the other side has spikes arranged with the shape of a wing.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: Chapter 11-EX has her finally learn the truth about herself: that she's a clone made from Kaslana and Schariac genes, as well as that of Sirin, as part of Otto's project; among other clones, she has the core of the Herrscher of the Void put into her, giving her sapience. In her mind, Sirin says that the two were basically victims of humans, and that her fate (as a "vessel") was sealed since before her conception. She also says that her longtime friends would see her differently and try to "save" her by destroying her. The twist is that Kiana actually knew something was inside her back when she unwittingly awakened the Herrscher's powers when she was 12, but she intentionally suppressed her mind, trying to forget "HER" (Sirin) and what happened. It's just that the truth was far uglier than she thought.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: She likes ramen, usually instant ones. She also makes a mooncake out of instant ramen and its sauce as a consumable item.
  • Trauma Conga Line: The more the story progresses, the more you realize exactly how much she is repressing.
    • Initially it "only" seems that Kiana is dealing with a case of Disappeared Dad which she's hellbent on solving, but it eventually turns out she's always hurt from never knowing anything about her Missing Mom. Kiana was seemingly abandoned by Siegfried when she was not even a teenager, after which she spent the following years searching for him through several continents entirely on her own, with all that entails, including Honkai-infested lands and apparently even being involved in a school murder case as a near-victim.
    • After a near-death experience helping Mei seal the Third Herrscher personality, she joins Schicksal, where she lives happily until Mei gets kidnapped by Anti-Entropy, which quickly results in Bronya nearly dying and falling into a coma and the death of Wendy.
    • In one of the supplementary comics, at one point she gets depressed because Himeko is critically injured (after the events of Chapter Xuanyuan and Chiyou in the game) and she felt like she isn't strong enough to prevent it.
    • Then she winds up in a data recreation of the Second Honkai War, where she is able to interact with and get to know her long-dead mother through a recreation of her memories for whom she discovers an extremely potent love, only for it to turn out to be all a ruse designed by the Second Herrscher to break Kiana's will and make her reject the real world. This leads to Kiana being captured by Schicksal.
    • Overseer Otto then uses her to revive the Second Herrscher. This is only possible because the Kiana we know is actually a clone of the true Kiana with an implant of the Second Herrscher's core. The former revelation takes place in Otto's reports of Theresa's origins, with an accompanying shot of a child Kiana blindfolded and in chains just to drive home what her real childhood was like.
  • Tsundere: In the higher bond levels, Kiana will act like this towards the Captain. She's more open with her feelings towards other people, however. Also, the Herrscher of the Void takes this role in the Valkyrie Dorms. Mei even refers to the Herrscher as Kiana's "rebellious phase".
  • Villainous Breakdown: When Himeko proves to be a match for Herrscher of the Void, she angrily throws everything at her with reckless abandon. After Himeko injects her with a serum that neutralizes the Honkai energy inside her, all she can do is let a scream in pure rage.
  • Villain Shoes: A few stages in Chapter 9 have you controlling Herrscher of the Void to battle Theresa's Violet Executer suit, and later, Fu Hua's Shadow Knight suit.
  • Walking Spoiler: Entire data about Herrscher of the Void will reveal what happened from Chapters 7 to 9 entirely, as well as her true nature.
  • The Watson: Due to being Book Dumb she often has to have someone explain some in-universe information that she should've learned. This conveniently also gives info to the player.
  • You Will Not Evade Me:
    • Valkyrie Ranger's Ultimate Evasion skill is to create an Unrealistic Black Hole where she stood on, sucking nearby enemies to one place. If she's ranked S, the black hole has increased effective range and duration. As Void Drifter, she can also create a black hole by the last part of her normal combo, though this comes with a cooldown on its own; her black holes also have less effective range than normal Valkyrie Ranger's.
    • Herrscher of the Void can also create a black hole in her combo, which also sucks nearby enemies to it and then damages them with Reverse Shrapnel of spikes.

    Raiden Mei

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/crimson_impulse.png
The Lightning Princess

Mei is the daughter of the Master Electric (ME) Corp's CEO. When she was young, her father were arrested and most of her family's assets were seized due to her father’s criminal activities, and she was later captured to be part of a Honkai-related experiment. This event has caused her to be cold and distant towards others, though her friendship with Kiana has caused her to become more gentle and caring. She also has great power sealed within her, which was unleashed during the Choukuu City event, causing her to become the 3rd Herrscher. After Kiana stopped her, she joined Schicksal shortly after to learn to control her power.

Her battlesuits are Crimson Impulse (B-rank BIO-type), Valkyrie Bladestrike (A BIO), Shadow Dash (A MECH), and Lightning Empress (S PSY).

  • Advertised Extra: In-Universe in the more fourth-wall breaking events, Mei will complain how she has little to no presence in the story despite the fact that she's supposed to be one of the Power Trio. This first shows up in the "Winter Rhapsody" event where the orchestrator couldn't find a proper character for her to play but found a cute reindeer costume for her to wear, and continues in the Summer Battle event with her passive ability "Give me more lines or taste 5 Elemental DMG that ignores DEF"
  • Back Stab: Shadow Dash has a passive skill that increases the damage dealt if the enemy is attacked from the back. Shadow Dash's team skill will also let her co-op teammates do the same.
  • Begin with a Finisher:
    • Mei's Lightning Empress battlesuit has a passive skill where, if she's set as the leader on a team, she'll give her whole team 50/60/70 SP (depending on her suit's rank) at the start of the battle, letting the team use their Ultimate Skill sooner (especially if the team's members have Ultimate Skills that use 50 SP or less).
    • In Coop Multiplayer, Mei's Valkyrie Bladestrike battlesuit's Team Skill is to fill SP for the whole team the more hits they do in their combos; this can be done at the start of a battle, letting them use their Ultimate Skills sooner.
  • Betrayal Insurance:
    • Before she enrolled into St. Freya Academy, she feared that her Herrscher self may one day come out and injure people again. Himeko suggested that she have a bomb planted near her heart that will go off if her Herrscher self ever resurfaces again. After it's done, she starts studying there.
    • In a separate comic, her Herrscher self does come out, which causes said bomb to start a countdown of 5 minutes; it also hurts her chest so she's forced to subdue herself before it's too late.
    • The game's Chapter 8 has her requesting Theresa to deactivate the bomb inside her. Theresa allows it, which later causes Mei's Herrscher self to resurface (albeit with less influence than before).
  • BFS: This is a feature of two of Mei's Ultimate skills with different battlesuits:
    • Valkyrie Bladestrike's ultimate skill is a Super Mode that gives her a blade aura that gives her attacks greatly increased reach, allowing her to attack multiple opponents at once.
    • If Crimson Impulse reaches SS rank, she can gain a sub-skill that modifies her ultimate skill so that it also elongates her sword's reach for a duration like Valkyrie Bladestrike after the initial Sword Beam.
  • Blade Spam: Her branch attack (and switch-in attack) as Valkyrie Bladestrike is a series of very fast slashes that you can prolong by Button Mashing the attack button. After the Augment Core upgrade, the attack is improved so that she can move around while slashing her target, alleviating the "sitting duck" problem of said attack. The same upgrade also changes her QTE into a flurry of slashes around her as she falls toward the target.
  • Brought Down to Badass: Mei having the Gem of Conquest (her Herrscher Core) yanked out of her body leaves her comatose for months, but it didn't slow her down a bit afterward, which Rita lampshades in the fight against her.
  • Criss-Cross Attack: Lightning Empress' QTE attack has her criss-crossing in midair to slash the enemy(ies) around her. Her Ultimate Skill is a more powerful version of it.
  • Damsel in Distress: She is captured by Anti-Entropy in Chapter 3, and most of Chapter 4 is spent trying to rescue her.
  • Dash Attack: Shadow Dash's branch attack (can also be done after her dodge move, and as a switch-in attack) is her dashing forward for an upward slash that launches enemies upward, and the attack can be continued with a powerful circular slash. Her QTE attack is a more powerful version of it.
  • Doppelgänger Attack: Shadow Dash can summon shadow clones as her Ultimate Evasion effect to both attack and distract the opponent. Her Ultimate Skill lets her summon a more powerful clone, or 2 less powerful clones if she's ranked SS (3 when she's SSS).
  • The Lancer: The calmer, more level-headed counterpart to the excitable and Book Dumb Kiana.
  • Horny Devils: Lightning Empress has a succubus-themed alternate costume.
  • Idiot Hair: Mei has an ahoge, and it's longer than Kiana's.
  • Magikarp Power: Shadow Dash at first isn't all that impressive, with rather weak attacks and Ultimate Skill. Get her to Rank S, though, and she can upgrade her branch attack into something more powerful, as well as allowing her Ultimate Evasion to summon an extra shadow clone. Get her to Rank SS and she can summon 2 clones in her Ultimate Skill.
  • Meaningful Name: Mei's Lightning Empress battlesuit gives her lightning-based attacks, very fitting for someone named after the Japanese god of thunder.
  • Nice Girl: She's a both kind, humble, gentle and considerate girl who strive to always help their friends and loved ones to the best of their abilities.
  • Ninja: She uses a katana as her primary weapon, and is generally the fastest out of all the Valkyries. Her fighting style is also stated to be partially based on ninjutsu. As Valkyrie Bladestrike and Shadow Dash, however, she fights more like a samurai.
  • Onee-sama: Bronya calls her "Mei-neesama" and looks up to her.
  • Out of Focus: In Ch. 9-EX2, the heroes' group split up; Mei and Dr. Tesla go to find Kiana while Bronya, Theresa and Dr. Einstein go to the Eye of the Deep. Ch. 10 focuses on the latter group, leaving Mei offscreen for 2 chapters.
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: Her Herrscher self believes that only she is allowed to kill Kiana, because of a grudge that's caused by Kiana having suppressed her (multiple times) in the past.
  • Sean Connery Is About to Shoot You: In her Victory Pose, she brandishes her sword towards the camera.
  • Shamu Fu: In the joke event "Mei's Kenjutsu Training", she beats up enemies using a piece of stiff and salty tuna.
  • Shoryuken: Mei's branch attack as Crimson Impulse has her do a jumping upward slash while spinning, launching close enemies into the air. Once she reaches SS rank, it can be done twice in a row. Her QTE attack is a more powerful version of it, ending with a Sword Plant from above that creates a burst of energy.
  • Single-Stroke Battle: Valkyrie Bladestrike's QTE attack is a powerful single slash as she dashes through the enemy, which then deals extra damage after she stops. In her Augment Core upgrade, the final slash in her normal combo is changed into this, that also paralyzes enemies hit by it.
  • Situational Damage Attack: With the Augment Core upgrade, Valkyrie Bladestrike's Ultimate Skill's activation deals damage to the enemies around Mei; the more combo hits she did before the activation, the stronger the damage becomes.
  • Split Personality Team Up: In the last stage of Chapter 8, her Herrscher self comes out to help her to fight against Herrscher Kiana. In particular, Herrscher Mei makes note on how it's rare to have the goals of both sides of her selves align.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Mei's powers as the 3rd Herrscher come with a Split Personality that's more ruthless and considers her regular self pathetic. In separate supplementary comics, when one of her friends is heavily injured by someone/something, it causes her Herrscher self to go on a rampage. She's able to manipulate electricity in a large scale.
  • Statuesque Stunner: She is the tallest Valkyrie at 172 cm (~5'8").
  • Sword Beam: Crimson Impulse's ultimate skill is to shoot out a wide, slow-moving, multi-hitting crescent beam out of her sword.
  • Team Chef: She's mainly the one to cook for her friends. Himeko likes her cooking, and Yae Sakura has a dialogue in the dorms where she compliments Mei on some barbecue that she made.

The Armored Bunny

Bronya was a Russian orphan who was raised as an assassin since she was young. Eventually she was sent to assassinate Cocolia, a member of Anti-Entropy, but failed in her mission. Instead of killing her, Cocolia took pity on Bronya and took her to be raised in her orphanage. There Bronya was experimented on, gaining the power to use Honkai energy, enabling her to, among other things, levitate, pull her cannon and her support puppet robot Project Bunny 19C out of nowhere, and enter people's minds, but losing her emotions as a result. Later, by Cocolia’s orders, she was sent to St. Freya High School in order to spy on Schicksal.

Her battlesuits are Valkyrie Chariot (B-rank PSY-type), Yamabuki Armor (A PSY), Snowy Sniper (A BIO), Dimension Breaker (S MECH), Wolf's Dawn (A PSY, awakened Yamabuki Armor), Black Nucleus (S BIO, awakened Snowy Sniper) and Herrscher of Reason (S MECH, awakened Dimension Breaker).

  • Actually Pretty Funny: In the event "Seele's Quantum Diary", a scene in the past shows Roza and Lili eavesdropping on Bronya wanting to go outside with Seele (when the outside was still dangerous for children due to wars) and they "threaten" to snitch to their foster mother... all with Roza Chewing the Scenery (or trying to, at least) while saying so and Lili only half-heartedly following along. Bronya can barely hold her laughter back.
  • Adventures in Comaland: The Extra Stage "Dilemma Dreamland" covers her journey inside her mind (accompanied by Fu Hua) after she fell into a coma following the events of Chapter 4. There, she'll try rediscovering herself and fight her inner demons.
  • Age-Inappropriate Dress: Note that Bronya is only 14 at the start of the game. Her Yamabuki Armor battlesuit is not only midriff-baring, it leaves the top half of her butt almost completely exposed, and her Candy Demon and Techno Beats outfits basically are a pants-bra-unzipped jacket combo.
  • Alpha Strike: Black Nucleus' ultimate skill is to immobilize the target and surround them with cannons from every side, which proceed to bombard them for heavy damage. Its boss version (Dark Bronya) has a different one where it arranges multiple portals above her with cannons inside them, which then bombard a large area.
  • Back Stab: Black Nucleus has a passive skill that increases the damage dealt if the enemy is attacked from the back.
  • Badass Biker: The Seele event in v3.1 reveals that Bronya was trained to ride a motorcycle when she was a Child Soldier. When she gains the power of the Herrscher of Reason, Project Bunny gains an alternate motorcycle mode that Bronya gets to ride in her battle against Tlaloc, skillfully dodging the monster's tentacles by driving on a holographic road, then proceeding to ram Tlaloc's head at full speed. As a playable character, she uses her bike when roaming in the Open World stages (Sakura Samsara, Schicksal HQ, and a few others), allowing you to go around faster.
  • Becoming the Mask: She was tasked by Anti-Entropy to follow Mei so that one day she could capture her, but by the time she enrolled into St. Freya Academy (along with Mei and Kiana), she grew genuinely fond of Mei.
  • Begin with a Finisher: In Coop Multiplayer, her Valkyrie Chariot battlesuit's Team Skill is to create a small Area of Effect that quickly fills the team's SP when they stand in it, which can also be done at the start of the battle. Valkyrie Chariot also has an Ultimate Skill that gathers enemies around with only 50 SP, so that beginning team stages with her Ultimate Skill (especially when there are a lot of enemies around) would greatly help with finishing the stage faster.
  • BFG: Most versions of her are based around Project Bunny 19C being armed with some kind of heavy artillery, usually a rocket launcher, a cluster missile launcher, or a laser cannon that fires a continuous beam. The exception is Wolf's Dawn; Bronya wields the artillery while Project Bunny 19C fights with a Pile Bunker-style lance.
  • Blinded by the Light: One of Dark Bronya's attacks (which is used as Black Nucleus' team skill) is to throw a small ball of light up, which then emits a flash of light like a flashbang that stuns her opponents (unless you turn away from her).
  • Broken Pedestal: Bronya finds it hard to forgive Cocolia after what the latter's done to hernote , and she finds Cocolia's obsession with Herrschers rather unsettling (considering she got to be friends with Mei and Wendy as well). However, she can't deny that Cocolia has been kind to her (as a foster mother) either, a feeling that her orphanage friends Rozaliya & Liliya reinforce.
  • Call-Back:
    • The control chip inside her brain (that she fried in ch. 4, resulting in her coma) gets referenced in Chapter 9-EX2, as Gray Serpent invades Hyperion's system.
Gray Serpent: Remember that control switch that Cocolia left in your brain?
Bronya: That chip should be burnt out.
Gray Serpent: You're right, it no longer functions. But the pain it brought should be more permanent.
    • In the end of her side story "Dilemma Dreamland", Bronya (inside her mind) tells Fu Hua that (the ability to) enter other people's minds isn't something to be proud of. Later, when Fu Hua reappears in her mind in Chapter 9-EX2, Bronya says the same line. The twist is that Fu Hua says that she isn't the real Fu Hua, but one of her "feathers" that she left in Bronya's mind.
  • Car Fu: At the end of Chapter 11, she charges her motorcycle through Tlaloc's arms, into its mouth, and out of the back of its head, obliterating everything above its shoulders in the process. As a playable character, her QTE and Ultimate Skill has her ramming the enemy with her bike (and, for the latter, shooting the enemy with multiple beams from multiple cannons from many sides at once), and in her "bike mode" she has a strong Spin Attack with the bike.
  • Child Soldier: She has faced the battlefield even before she became a teenager. She's rather coldly efficient at it, too. This gives her a cold disposition that often sets Seele off.
Seele: Did you play on a swing before?
Bronya: Nyet. But I played with Avtomat Kalashnikova and Dragunova.
  • Cold Sniper: She was one in her backstory as an assassin, with a reference to the real life sniper Simo Hayha. Nowadays she's largely the same, only that she's much colder than before and she uses heavy artillery instead of sniper rifles. Literally as Snowy Sniper, with her gaining ice powers that she can use to freeze enemies.
  • Cooldown Manipulation: Snowy Sniper and Black Nucleus have a skill where she can reduce the cooldown time of the whole team's Ultimate Evasion/Perfect Defense for a few seconds if she's set as the leader.
  • The Cracker: She's good at hacking through networks and security systems, and is generally computer-savvy.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Despite her lack of emotions, Bronya is still capable of dealing verbal jabs here and there, mostly towards Kiana.
  • Death Seeker: Only in one case in her backstory, where she wants to be put in Anti-Entropy's quantum experiment, knowing that she'll "die" in the process. This was apparently so that she can meet Seele, who had undergone the same experiment and "disappeared". However, once she had her brief reunion with Seele, the latter tells her to go away to stay alive, and find a way to rescue Seele from her current state.
Seele: You're my hope, Bronya. You're the bravest and strongest person I've known. You'll find a way to rescue me. Staying here with me would mean you've given up hope and chose to run away...
  • Declaration of Protection: In "Seele's Diary", she wanted to take Seele out to the closest amusement park, but the latter warned her that it's dangerous outside; she then says "I'll protect you". In other occasions she's also instinctively protective of Seele whenever the latter is feeling down.
  • Deflector Shields:
    • Yamabuki Armor has a passive skill that creates a spherical barrier for the whole team (and summoned friends and/or friendly escorts, if there are any) that blocks physical damage and can explode to deal damage if the shield is broken; the shield will regenerate if no attacks hit you for 6 seconds. If she's ranked S, she can make the shield stronger. After her Augment Core upgrade, her barrier becomes even stronger with it being based off a percentage of her HP and DEF. It also "beats" and deals a small amount of damage at intervals to close enemiesnote , it buffs the character's melee physical damage and crit rate whenever it's active, and when the shield explodes, it can paralyze nearby enemies. However, it no longer automatically regenerates—to reset the shield you have to perform her QTE, her Ultimate Skill or (at SSS rank) her Perfect Defense.
    • Wolf's Dawn has a similar passive skill, but for elemental damage.
  • De-Power: At the climax of ch. 12, Bronya as Herrscher of Reason ended up having her Herrscher Core taken out by Kevin, turning her back to how she was like previously. This, however, allows Welt to rematerialize himself using said core.
  • Disc-One Nuke: Valkyrie Chariot Bronya’s QTE attack is an AOE slam attack that deals immense damage to enemies caught within it and lifts them up into the air to juggle them even further. It can also be easily triggered by stunning the opponent, which White Comet Kiana (your starting Valkyrie) can do with her normal attacks.
  • Emotionless Girl: She speaks in a deadpan monotone and in a polite, direct and terse way of speaking. She's also very rational and logical-thinking, which makes her clash with the intuition- and emotionally-driven Kiana. While she can still feel emotions deep down, she has difficulties recognizing and expressing them. This is due to her suffering brain damage in her backstory.
  • Fangirl: She's a big one to the plush bunny named HOMU, which is one of the game's mascots. Some of her outfits have the face of HOMU (or a silhouette of it) plastered onto them. She has been a fan even back when she was a Child Soldier and then got put into Cocolia's orphanage. In the "HOMU Rush!" event, when her team is told to smash a statue of HOMU as part of the trial, she refuses, saying that she would defend the HOMU at all costs (including being beaten by Theresa).
  • Foreshadowing: In "Seele's Quantum Diary", when Bronya and Seele saw a pack of motorbike riders going past them, Bronya said that she'll get a motorbike and the two can ride it to the beach. At the end of Ch. 11, she gets her Next Tier Power-Up from the Herrscher Core of Reason that transforms her Project Bunny into a more powerful form, that can transform into a motorbike.
  • Gamer Chick: Bronya is very good at various kind of games, and regularly beats Kiana and others in them, which gets referenced in multiple ways:
    • The Man Hua typically shows her playing against the other characters and easily winning even while she's expertly preparing dessert with her other hand.
    • The Final HOMU Fantasy Raid has her practically taking over a MMORPG that she became obsessed over, with her godlike avatar serving as the Final Boss. One of the dates in the anniversary event shows that this even extends to things like basketball arcade games, where she handily beats the Captain if the player picks that option, thinking it would be an easy win due to her height.
    • The anniversary summer event has her taking over miHoYo in order to realize her dream of making a HOMU-based game of her own.
    • A later summer event ("Homu RUSH!") shows her being a game streamer during her off days.
    • The "Odd Drifter" event involves the Captain, Tesla, and Seele finding her holed up inside an enormous mecha, having tapped its power core so she can play video games all day. Everyone gets sucked into playing with her.
  • Girlish Pigtails: She wears her hair in twin drills until she becomes the Herrscher of Reason, at which point her hair comes down while keeping the drill-shaped curls at the ends.
  • Ground Punch: Almost all of Bronya's battlesuits have this as an attack of some sort:
    • Valkyrie Chariot's switch-in attack is to fall from above and punch the ground with her Project Bunny. Her QTE is a stronger version of this, with the punch emitting a circular energy field that deals high damage.
    • In Yamabuki Armor's Ultimate Skill, her Project Bunny will do a ground punch as the final hit of its combo attack.
    • As Wolf's Dawn, her Project Bunny may sometimes punch the ground to attack enemies, which will send them airborne.
    • Black Nucleus (both as the boss "Dark Bronya" and the playable version) slides in and punches the ground as her switch-in skill. In a variant, her QTE has her Project Bunny punch the ground with a charged cannon instead of its fist, which then releases a large explosion on the ground.
    • Some of her weapon skills will have the Project Bunny punch the ground to generate different effects. Her stealth kill in Sakura Samsara mode is also executed this way.
  • Handicapped Badass: She's one of the stronger (and more brilliant) students in her academy and her legs are crippled. Downplayed in that her thigh-high metal boots are prostheses that allows her to walk normally.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Around the climax of Chapter 4, she fries the bio chip inside her brain that's controlling her in order to free herself from Cocolia's control and stop herself from hurting her friends, at the cost of her going comatose. Cocolia, who saw Bronya like her own child, even begs her to stop it.
Cocolia: Are you kidding me?! That chip is supposed to be implanted inside your brain! Are you trying to kill yourself?!
  • Heroic Second Wind: At Ch. 11 act 16, she was defeated by Seele's Split Personality. Act 17 has Joachim waking her up in her mind, exploring parts of the strange world she's in, all while hearing the voices of the people she met in the "bubble universes". At the end of the level, she solidifes her resolve, and act 18 has her wake up for real, ready to confront the boss again.
  • Holographic Terminal: A bunch of these appear near Wolf's Dawn when she uses her Ultimate Skill.
  • Imagination-Based Superpower: This is the main superpower for being the Herrscher of Reason. Her bio mentions that while she isn't as knowledgeable as Welt when it comes to weaponry and military equipments and vehicles, she knows her own Project Bunny enough that she mainly uses her power to manipulate it.
  • Improvised Platform: In a variant, Herrscher of Reason can create roads in the air as she rides on Project Bunny's bike form.
  • Invisibility: Black Nucleus' Ultimate Evasion and QTE effect is to activate "stealth mode" where she's invisible to her enemies and stops drawing their aggro. This is useful for sneaking behind the enemy's back and then attacking them from behind, as well as escaping tough situations, and gives her increased speed. She'll exit the mode when she attacks (if she's charging her cannon, she won't be visible until she actually fires it), uses her Evasion move, gets hit, or switches out with her partner.
  • "Just Frame" Bonus: Dimension Breaker has an unique mechanic for Bronya's laser cannons where, after she overheats her laser, there'll be a shrinking circle near her laser's position. Pressing the attack button when the circle gets small enough will make her laser cool down instantly, allowing her to fire again immediately.
  • Lawyer-Friendly Cameo: Bronya's Alloy_BRONYA game avatar in the "Himouto BRONYA Chan" manhua chapter is pretty much Big Boss in a HOMU Hat.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Her Project Bunny 19c can use the shield on its right arm to protect Bronya from attacks; the Defend Command mechanic (which replaces the usual Evasion) is only used for Yamabuki Armor and Dimension Breaker valkyrie suits. If the shield button is released right after an attack is blocked, Bronya will do a Counter Attack (different for each of her suits).
  • Mana Shield: Dimension Breaker has a passive skill (that can be toggled on or off) that reduces her damage taken at the cost of burning bits of her SP per hit.
  • Marionette Master: She has a mechanical puppet named "Project Bunny 19c" that aids her in attacks and (sometimes) defense.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Herrscher of Reason fights differently from any other Bronya: she has melee attacks as her normal attack, and her Charged Attack, which still accomodates the variations of her heavy weapons, also works differently. It only requires her to fill a special gauge (by attacking, Ultimate Evasion or QTE) and it doesn't require charging time, allowing her to repeatedly bombard the enemies with the 3rd stage of her charged shots so long as she still has units in her gauge. Her laser cannons now only shoot short bursts of lasers instead of a continuous one, and they don't overheat. She's also able to activate Ultimate Evasion's effect after being hit (the "available" time frame is short, however). Her Ultimate Skill's effect is also rather unique, consisting of her riding on her Cool Bike and evading enemies while she manifests multiple floating laser cannons to shoot enemies.
  • The Mole: She's actually an agent of Anti-Entropy who infiltrates Schicksal on their orders. She ends up betraying Kiana and Mei, but only because she is being controlled by Cocolia. Later, Bronya comes to care about Mei so much that she decides to fry the control chip inside her brain (wrecking her own brain in the process) just to break herself free from Cocolia's control.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Bronya's Wolf's Dawn battlesuit is based on one of her outfits from the game's predecessor Benghuai Xueyuan (aka Guns GirlZ). In a supplementary comic that takes place before the game's present, she still wears it (and her Project Bunny still has its Pile Bunker lance as its left arm, and she didn't wield a cannon yet).
    • One of Bronya's weapons is a rotary cannon that was used by a (now deceased) Valkyrie in the past, as shown in the comic.
  • Next Tier Power-Up: While searching for Seele in the Sea of Quanta at the end of Ch. 11 (in the plotline animation "Cyberangel: ZERO Exception"), Bronya stumbles upon the Herrscher Core of Reason (Joachim/Welt's core) and tries to grab it, only for it to go out of control and try to assimilate her, while also being simultaneously attacked by a Tlaloc. It isn't until Seele's spirit appears before her that Bronya snaps out of it and seizes full control of the thing, granting her and Project Bunny a massive upgrade and materialization powers befitting of the Herrscher of Reason, which she gets to demonstrate by curbstomping the Tlaloc. Her bio, however, says that this is a Deadly Upgrade as it eats away at her from within (which gets confirmed in ch. 12). She cares little about it, as long as she can use it to save Seele.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Bronya gets unusually emotive at the climax of ch. 12. It could be because she was very close to Seele, or that she's trying to save Welt, or she's wanting to stop the "World Serpent" (who turns out to be Kevin Kaslana).
  • Overheating: Bronya's laser cannons will overheat if used for too long, and she'll have to wait till they cool down to fire again. As Dimension Breaker, she has a passive skill that delays the overheat of the laser weapons and her Ultimate Skill allows her to continuously use laser weapons without overheating until the duration ends.
  • Parental Abandonment: Bronya mentions in Ch. 4 that her real parents weren't there with her when she was little. She was found by a mercenary group and trained to become a cold and efficient Child Soldier until Cocolia found her and then adopted her.
  • Pile Bunker: As Wolf's Dawn, her Project Bunny wields a huge Jousting Lance-like pile bunker as its left arm. If she attacks the enemy with uncharged shots, her Project Bunny will do a thrusting attack with it, and her Ultimate Skill has Project Bunny smash the ground with it 3 times, hitting the enemies around it with the earth spikes that jut out of the ground.
  • Plot Device All Along: Aside from her receiving it from Seele from "Imaginary Space", Project Bunny 19c otherwise looks and acts like a normal robot and has the capabilities of such. However, in ch. 11, it's shown that it can attack Quantum enemies normally when, as Joachim claims, normal weaponry would have a hard time hurting them.
  • Power Floats: While Bronya can walk using her leg prosthetics, they also allow her to float in the air, which she prefers.
  • Power Makes Your Hair Grow: As Herrscher of Reason, her hair grows longer and looser; it's more noticeable than Herrscher of the Void as Bronya usually keeps her hair in twintails.
  • Promoted to Playable: The Dark Bronya boss of Chapter 2 became playable as the S-rank Black Nucleus battlesuit.
  • Puppet Fighter:
    • As Wolf's Dawn, her Project Bunny 19c is away from her at all times and will attack the enemies at its vicinity or if Bronya use uncharged attacks on a specific target. The enemies will try to attack Project Bunny while Bronya can shoot them from afar.
    • Downplayed with Dimension Breaker, as her Project Bunny only detaches from her if she uses her Ultimate Skill. Like in Wolf's Dawn's case, it will grab the enemies' attention for several seconds, then release an explosion and finally teleport back to Bronya.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Bronya's Black Nucleus battlesuit is mainly black with red accents, and it represents her being controlled by Cocolia.
  • Red Baron: In the past, as an assassin, she used to be called "Silver Wolf of Ural".
  • Rollerblade Good: While it's not been shown in-game, during the cutscene where Bronya becomes the Herscherr of Reason, the feet of her leg prosthetics transform into motorcycle-like tires which she uses to skate through the tunnel of Honkai material created by Tlaloc until she can catch up to Project Bunny 19C.
  • Seeks Another's Resurrection: In one supplemental comic, her best friend Seele "died" in an experiment and she and Cocolia vowed to restore her somehow. They apparently thought Mei's powers as a Herrscher may be able to help them, which is part of the reason Bronya decided to go to the same school as Mei.
  • Shield Bash:
    • Yamabuki Armor's switch-in attack is to dash towards an enemy and then bash them with the shield on her Project Bunny's hand. Her QTE is a stronger version of it that also stuns the target.
    • Wolf's Dawn has a similar switch-in attack, only that the Project Bunny detaches from her and then dashes at the enemy shield-first. Her QTE also works similarly.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: That can be double as the Badass Boast towards Gray Serpent as he proceeds to do a mental invasion on her in Chapter 9-EX2.
Gray Serpent: I know what you fear.
Bronya: Fear? Bronya lives with it since Bronya was born.
  • Spread Shot: As Black Nucleus, she has an unique ability that changes how her cluster missile works; instead of homing to multiple enemies, the missiles now spread out like shotgun pellets, which is good for both hitting a row of enemies and dealing high damage to a single enemy at close range.
  • Squishy Wizard: The modification to her body allows her to control Honkai energy and use it to achieve various feats, but her body is fragile; she has among the lowest HP count of the playable characters. Subverted by Yamabuki Armor which focuses on defense.
  • Staircase Tumble: In the past, this happened to her courtesy of Sin Mal, who then stomped on her legs to damage them further. When Cocolia treated her, Bronya only claimed that she was "careless", but Cocolia knew that someone like Bronya can't be that careless, and then says that Bronya could've retaliated and broke the neck of the person who had pushed her down.
  • Support Party Member: Most of her suits have supportive capabilities in one way or another. There are 2 exceptions to this:
    • Black Nucleus has a lot of firepower, including her Ultimate Skill, which straight up deal high damage, while having little-to-no support capabilities.
    • Herrscher of Reason goes similarly, and is also the first Bronya that mainly deals (ice) elemental damage.note
  • Teleport Spam: Dark Bronya (the boss of Chapter 2) has an attack pattern where it disappears, then appears for an attack, then disappears again, which is then repeated for around 4-5 times.
  • Terrifying Rescuer: In the supplementary comic detailing her backstory, when she rescues Seele from kidnappers, Seele noted that Bronya has a scary look on her face the whole time.
  • Third-Person Person: A strange twist, in that she refers to herself as "the Bronya", almost as if she has somehow dissociated from herself. In her side story "Dilemma Dreamland", where she (temporarily) lost her memories, she uses "I" ("watashi" in Japanese voiceover) normally until she regained her memories; in the supplementary comic detailing her backstory, she also used "I" normally. There's also a humorous moment in the dorms where Mei, after asking Bronya if she wants to join her in the library, tells her that Kiana is actually in the library studying; this apparently shocks her so much that she says "...I will go, too."
  • This Is a Drill: Herrscher of Reason's normal attack combo has her manifesting multiple drills to strike the enemies from multiple sides. Her Charged Attack, if she uses rocket launchers, will be modified to make her fire drill-tipped rockets.
  • Time Master: As Dimension Breaker, she's able to manipulate space-time to lock enemies in a time-slowed state, either in her Perfect Defense, switch-in attack, QTE, or team skill.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Project Bunny 19c was given to her by Seele Vollerei as she sent Bronya back from the place she currently is innote .
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Downplayed; she was a cold and brutally efficient Child Soldier who nevertheless could still feel and express emotions, especially towards Seele. One of the diary entries of Seele's Quantum Diary shows that Bronya was kind to animals, too, with Seele noting that her cold gaze softens during so. The experiment done on her robbed her of her emotions (and the use of her legs), but her memories of the past (especially Seele) still remain. In the "Cyberangel" cinematic, it shows alternate possibilities of Bronya who appears happy and cheerful from childhood to adulthood, implying she is bound to be a happy person if only she had lived a normal life.
  • Who Wears Short Shorts?: As Wolf's Dawn, she wears a pair of brown shorts.
  • You Will Not Evade Me:
    • Valkyrie Chariot's ultimate skill creates a black hole that sucks enemies in, deals multiple hits and (if she's ranked S) explodes at the end, dealing more damage and stunning enemies caught within. During the skill, she's invincible, and she'll stay there until the move ends even if you tag her partner in.
    • If Wolf's Dawn is ranked SSS, her ultimate skill can be modified to make the enemies get sucked in towards the Project Bunny's position.
    • After her Augment Core upgrade, Yamabuki Armor's QTE and Ultimate Skill can create mini black holes that pull enemies towards her.

    Murata Himeko

Voiced by: Jiuer (Chinese), Rie Tanaka (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/battle_storm.png
The Squad V Major

Himeko is the commander-in-chief of the Valkyrie Squad Fifth Platoon and is the superior officer of Kiana, Mei and Bronya. A year after the death of her father, Himeko enlists in the Honkai Fighting Strategy Unit Training Program, becoming a very distinguished combatant and commander with the rank of Major. Unlike other playable characters, she does not have any natural resistance to Honkai energy, thus her body had to be transplanted with artificial stigmata. Due to this and the effects of Honkai energy on her body, it is estimated she only has one year left to live.

Her battlesuits are Battle Storm (B-rank BIO-type), Valkyrie Triumph (A BIO), Scarlet Fusion (A MECH), Blood Rose (S PSY), Arctic Kriegsmesser (A PSY, awakened Battle Storm) and Vermilion Knight (S MECH, awakened Scarlet Fusion).

  • The Alcoholic: On the occasion she drinks, she turns into a Lady Drunk. Fu Hua also mentions Himeko's alcoholism in Dorm.
  • Badass Boast: Delivers one to Herrscher of the Void as she's overpowering her opponent.
Himeko: That looks painful, you're actually bleeding! I never expect a god to bleed.
Himeko: Don't you ever get tired calling us insects or humans? I have a name, you know. Try to remember it when you go to hell and cry to your daddy... I'm HIMEKO MURATA!!
Himeko: Has your assault ended? Then it's my turn, if you don't mind.
  • Badass Teacher: Whenever she isn't on duty as a Valkyrie, she works as a teacher in St. Freya Academy. In particular, back when Kiana first enrolled, the latter roused her into a fight; Himeko soundly won despite being a "normie" compared to her.
  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: One level in Chapter 9 is set in Himeko's mental world, with her trying to conquer her inner demons (represented by Boss Blood Rose) before she can use the new Vermilion Knight armor. During the boss fight, there'll be a scripted event where Theresa, Bronya, Mei and Kiana appear and briefly attack the boss before disappearing, representing Himeko's care towards them.
  • Beauty Mark: She has a mole on her right breast, near her cleavage. All of her outfits have her cleavage exposed one way or another, making her mole always visible.
  • Berserk Button: Due to her lifespan being shortened from artificial Stigmata, Himeko has no patience towards those who hold their own lives with little value. Examples of this are Mei requesting to be executed in fear of the 3rd Herrscher taking over her body, and the diver who followed after her (in a supplementary comic) being infected with Honkai energy insisting she leave him behind.
  • Blood from the Mouth: In one of the cutscenes of Chapter 8, she suddenly coughs up blood after fighting. Due to her body's condition, she briefly becomes worried and insists that "her time isn't up yet".
  • Boobs of Steel: She has the largest bust out of all playable Valkyries and she deals crushing strikes with her greatsword.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: In the side story "Chapter Xuanyuan", when she grabs the legendary Xuanyuan Sword, she suddenly goes crazy and attacks Kiana, Mei and Bronya. She also has Glowing Eyes of Doom during this. After the three Beat The Curse Out Of Her, she ends up being heavily injured and they have to retreat.
  • Call-Forward: In a flashback in ch. 11-EX, Himeko advises that a Valkyrie should end a teammate's life right away if they've succumbed to the Honkai, but swears that she won't let that happen to the members under her. It's referring to what happened in the end of ch. 9, where despite Kiana being taken over by the Herrscher of the Void, Himeko chose to suppress her instead of killing her.
  • The Captain: As shown in a supplementary comic, she's apparently the Hyperion's previous captain. After you (the player) take that role, she's free to go on field missions.
  • Christmas Cake: She's 27 and is desperately looking for a good man. Considering that she doesn't have much time left to live, it's implied that she at least wants to have a good love life before dying, if not getting married and having a child of her own.
  • Combat Medic: Aside from being a decently powerful attacker, Valkyrie Triumph's ultimate skill, if she's ranked S, can be upgraded to be able to heal her whole team per second for each enemy trapped in the time-stopping field (up to 4). In co-op plays, her team skill is to create an Area of Effect around her that heals the team when they stand on it.
  • Cooldown Hug: In the Last Lesson, she gives one to the Herrscher of the Void in a final attempt to bring her back to her self and to stealthily inject the serum into her.
  • Dash Attack: Himeko's running animation is unique in that if she keeps running enough, she'll start sprinting at high speed. In that state, pressing the attack button will make her do a powerful slash attack.
  • Deadly Upgrade: The Vermilion Knight armor is more powerful than any of her previous suits, but Fu Hua warns her that since it's powered by a Herrscher's gem, Himeko would risk getting corrupted by the Honkai if she were to draw out the higher extents of its power. She doesn't mind it.
  • Determinator: She survived everything Herrscher of the Void threw at her (including getting slammed, squashed, sliced, and stabbed, simultaneously, and topped off by a miniature black hole) thanks to her resilience and resolve (and her new battlesuit).
Herrscher of the Void: I should've killed you thousand times over.
Himeko: I could be quite sticky at times.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Himeko's slow attack speed and up close-and-personal combat style may overwhelm new players trying to use her, and she'll also tank hits more than she dodges them. If properly mastered, she can easily blow through the enemy's defenses and deal high damage while taking only a little damage in return.
  • Dual Wielding: Vermilion Knight wields a special sword that hovers behind her back alongside her usual greatsword.
  • Dying Moment of Awesome: The short animation "Last Lesson", which ties in with the end of Chapter 9, has Himeko - likely deciding that it'll be the last thing she does - giving it her all to snap out Kiana out of the Herrscher's control, engaging her in a duel that was initially lopsided in Kiana's favor, but evened out with Himeko's willpower and overexerting her suit. Himeko manages to even dispel the Herrscher's most powerful attack (read: a miniature black hole) and fool her into thinking Himeko missed her finishing blow when in reality she needed an opening to inject Kiana with a Honkai-restraining serum. Himeko is successful and the Herrscher is suppressed, but this comes at the cost of her own life.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: She's the only normal human of all the playable Valkyries, and has to be empowered with artificial Stigmata just to keep up with the others. She's still a renowned Valkyrie despite that. This does, however, leave her with the short lifespan problem that most Valkyries have; the other characters don't have it due to being naturally differentnote  or having been modified heavilynote .
  • Famous Last Words: During the climax of the special cutscene "Last Lesson", Himeko delivers a poignant message to Kiana as she spends the last of her power to get close to the latter and inject her with a Honkai-restraining serum, shortly before dying.
Kiana, raise your head and continue to go forward, to turn this imperfect story into what you’ve always been expecting! And, please stay alive, Kiana. This, is the last lesson I could teach you.
  • Flying Weapon: Boss Himeko (encountered in the Extra Story "Chapter Xuanyuan") primarily attacks with flying apparitions of the legendary Xuanyuan Sword.
  • Go Out with a Smile: In "The Last Lesson", she gives a slight smirk as her consciousness fades away when the Herrscher of the Void pushes her away since she had successfully administered the serum during her Cooldown Hug.
  • Greater Need Than Mine: During her time in the Helheim Labs with Dr. Tesla, the latter manages to recreate a Honkai-neutralizing serum from the lab's files, and then gives it to Himeko, saying that it can save her life. Then she ended up using it on Kiana instead, to neutralize the Herrscher inside her. By the time Himeko dies, she has already shown signs of Honkai corruption.
  • Heroic Seductress: Downplayed. Himeko is the most openly and directly flirtatious with the Captain in her dialogue pieces on the home screennote , blowing kisses and even leaning forward so the Captain (and thus, the player) can get an even better look at her assets.
  • I Coulda Been a Contender!: In a flashback in ch. 11-EX, Himeko mentions that she could be a scientist at a Honkai energy labnote  until her father became corrupted by the Honkai; she decided to became a Valkyrie some time after. She also mentioned that her old Valkyrie commander (back when she was still a rookie) wanted to become a gardener, but then said commander went KIA and Himeko ended up putting herself in St. Freya Academy. Himeko then lamented that so many girls wanted to become a Valkyrie (referring to the students) despite them potentially being able to live normal lives with their parents.
  • Invulnerable Attack: Vermillion Knight's Charged Attack and Ultimate Skill make her completely invulnerable for a short moment.
  • Irony: Himeko's an Empowered Badass Normal who faces the similar Honkai corruption and short lifespan problems that other typical Valkyries face. In the previous civilization 50000+ years ago, an older incarnation of her became the Herrscher of Flame. Furthermore, the Vermilion Knight battlesuit is powered by Herrscher of Flame's core, meaning that Himeko is channeling her "older self's" power by wearing it.
  • Judge, Jury, and Executioner: A downplayed, Played for Laughs version in her specific scenes in the Dating Sim mode. As the volunteer law enforcer in Soukai City, she ends up cuffing at least one person in every scene for even the most minor of slights and the Captain (i.e you) will note that, for most of them, she's just looking for an excuse to cuff people. In the last scene, even you get cuffed as well (because she thinks you got persuaded by the Anti-Entropy some moments before this).
  • "Just Frame" Bonus: Scarlet Fusion has the "Perfect Combo" mechanic, where her normal attack combo will be more powerful (increased Critical Hit chance) if you time the attack button tap just right (indicated by a circle appearing for a few frames around her body).
  • Kissing Under the Influence: In the supplementary comic, she comes very close to kissing Kiana after sneaking into her bed while drunk.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Downplayed. She can run faster than other characters, her attacks do heavy damage, and she can tank hits well, but she has slower attack speed than other characters. Played fully straight as Vermilion Knight, where her evade move is changed to a dash (akin to Sakura's), her attacks become naturally faster, and she automatically "sprints" when she moves, all while retaining her usual toughness and hard blows.
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: The main trio's primary teacher who dies trying to rescue Kiana from Herrscher of the Void's control in "The Last Lesson", but not before some last words of encouragement to Kiana. Kiana's transformation into the Void Drifter is caused by her resolving to live by her late mentor's advice and hopes.
  • Mix-and-Match Weapon: The greatsword she can get from the week-long event with Dark Bronya is more of a cannon with a sword hilt, and its active skill is to shoot homing missiles. From the same event with Wotan as the boss, she can get the Wotan Cleaver greatsword that can shoot a sweeping laser.
  • No One Could Survive That!: She invokes this to trick her opponent into letting her guard down; the moment Herrscher of the Void thinks that she's dead and turned her back, she proves it wrong with her retaliation, with the latter almost getting stabbed by her attack.
  • Overheating: Vermilion Knight has an "overheat" system like Bronya's laser weapons: performing her Charged Attack will fill the heat gauge to almost full, while performing it again when the gauge is still cooling down will make it overheat. In that state, she gains increased fire damage, but she won't gain SP from attacks and can't use Charged Attack again until she fully cools down, either from waiting it out or by using her Ultimate Skill.
  • Post-Victory Collapse: After she injected the Honkai-neutralizing serum to Herrscher Kiana and saying her Famous Last Words, the only thing that brings her downnote  is her own body condition.
  • Self-Duplication: Boss Himeko, after entering a "dormant" state (when her health is almost depleted), will create 3 clones of herself that have different attributes (Mecha, Creature, Psychic) and attacks. In the second phase of the battle, she will create the 3 clones again, one by one, as her health is depleted.
  • Self-Made Woman: After her father's death, she went to work as a Valkyrie and becomes an experienced veteran after the years.
  • Serious Business: In Chapter Xuanyuan, Kiana mentions that Himeko seems to take their current mission more seriously than the previous ones, even with her doing literary researches prior to this. Bronya explains that since using artificial stigmata causes normal human users (including Himeko) to have short lifespans, this mission is to look for natural stigmata so that she can help the Schicksal's researches on it, which may potentially help with her body's problems.
  • Split Second Blade Spam: Vermilion Knight's Charged Attack has her Flash Stepping forward as she does multiple weak slashes, before reappearing for a final, powerful slash with both swords.
  • Sticks to the Back: Her greatsword freely float behind her back whenever it's not being used.
  • Sword Drag: Scarlet Fusion's Charged Attack is her running while dragging her sword against the ground. While running, contact with her body will deal lightning damage to enemies multiple times, and when the button's released, she lets out a powerful upward slash. If she scores 2-3 times of Perfect Combo (see "Just Frame" Bonus above), the upward slash will also fire off a lightning element Sword Beam.
  • Sword Plant: Many of her weapon skills, as well as her "stealth kill" move, have her stab the ground with her sword to cause a small explosion on the ground. This is also her QTE as Vermilion Knight.
  • Time Stands Still: Valkyrie Triumph's ultimate skill is to create a large hemispherical field around the target that will stop the time for the target and the surrounding enemies, leaving them open for attacks, while also summoning multiple swords around the field that will impale the trapped enemies after a few seconds.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: As Arctic Kriegsmesser.
  • Took a Level in Cynic: Downplayed. When she was younger, she thought that the world and life was good and filled with possibilities, and that she dreamed of doing a lot of things, like being a scientist at his father's Honkai lab. Then her father was corrupted by the Honkai and she chose to become a Valkyrie to seek answers. She joined a Valkyrie squad, whose leader taught her a lot of things, before she went KIA and Himeko ended up applying as a teacher in St. Freya Academy, because she doesn't want any other people to lose their families. She doesn't become outright cynical, but she definitely become matured through her experiences.
Kiana: Why did you end up as a Valkyrie with beefy arms?
Himeko: ...Because I work out and because life isn't perfect, sugar.
  • Trash of the Titans: One glance at her messy residence is all it takes for Kiana to call it a dumpsite, with Theresa adding that it's the place of an over-aged, single, solitary woman. Himeko even admits that she jams things she doesn't use into a cabinet.
  • Trick Boss: The fight with Boss Himeko doesn't stop when you deplete her health. You then have to defeat her clones, and then she gets healed back to full health and start whipping out stronger attacks.
  • Victoria's Secret Compartment: She has a tendency to keep hard drives containing data within her sizable bust.
  • Younger and Hipper: Arctic Kriegsmesser (the "awakened" version of Battle Storm) is a younger version of her from a special storyline in the Dating Sim mode that takes place in 2006 (10 years before the present).

    Theresa Apocalypse

St. Freya's Principal

The principal of St. Freya Academy where Kiana, Mei and Bronya attend, and "granddaughter" of the Archbishop of Schicksal, Otto Apocalypse. She was "born" from Kallen Kaslana's genes and is an accomplished Valkyrie from a young age. She was close friends with Kiana's parents (especially Cecilia), and they asked her to be Kiana's godmother.

Her battlesuits are Valkyrie Pledge (A-rank PSY-type), Violet Executer (S MECH), Sakuno Rondo (A PSY), Celestial Hymn (S BIO) and Luna Kindred (A BIO, awakened Valkyrie Pledge).

  • The Ace: Theresa's one of the strongest Valkyries that Schicksal has, partly because she was made with Kallen's genes. An off-hand mention in the story says that she can be an S-rank Valkyrie, but she's not interested in being one since she's working as a principal.
  • Alternate Self: While Luna Kindred claims (indirectly) that she's "Theresa", she (as an "awakened" character) looks slightly different, with her red eyes and longer hair, not to mention being vampiric. The special "story in the past" in the Dating Sim mode slowly reveals that she isn't the same usual Theresa; as shown in Kallen's files, Luna Kindred's code is A-872 (while Theresa's is A-310) and she's created with a slightly different process and component from normal Theresa.
  • Artificial Family Member: Created by Otto by using genes taken from Kallen. He expressed feelings for her and later adopted her as his granddaughter. Kiana also sees her as her "aunt".
  • Artificial Human: She was "born" in a lab by mixing Kallen Kaslana's genes with that of a powerful Honkai Beast. This gives her immense power and Healing Factor, but due to a genetic defect, her body can't grow beyond looking like a 12-year-old girl.
  • Awesome Mc Coolname: Just say it aloud: Theresa Apocalypse.
  • Badass Armfold: She stands with her arms confidently folded in her victory pose, all of her costume slots, and on the bridge.
  • Big Good: She's one for the cast of playable characters, as she commands not only St. Freya Academy but also the battleship Hyperion.
  • Clones Are People, Too: Chapter 8 reveals that she had always known that the Kiana she's taking care of isn't the real Kiana, but the fact that she's a clone doesn't matter and she will still save her from Otto. She herself first experienced this with Cecilia, who treated her as an equal despite knowing her origins.
  • Close-Range Combatant: While she's usually a mid-range fighter (by throwing swords/spears around), her special Luna Kindred form (an "awakened form" of her default Valkyrie Pledge form) fights in melee, Dual Wielding red swords that come out of nowhere and turning her cross into an axe to smash enemies with.
  • Closet Geek: She usually acts like an adult despite her appearance. However, she reads manga in secret.
  • Companion Cube: She's mainly associated with the elite cross weapon named Oath of Judah (aka the "Cross of Pledge"). She mentions it a lot in her quotes, and one side story reveals that she can't go to the bathroom at night without it.
  • Embarrassing Password: When she gives Anti-Entropy access to Hyperion's security, she discloses the password "TERITERI". Tesla gives a stern look to Theresa for her choice of password.
  • Emotional Maturity Is Physical Maturity: Somewhat. She easily (and sometimes nonchalantly) deals with adult matters and generally acts dignified; being a person in a high position, she's expected to think wisely and make good decisions. However, she still has a childish side, such as calling herself "the world's cutest principal" and with many of her reactions in the home screen. Lampshaded by Bronya in ch. 10:
*after Theresa's pep talk* Bronya is unaccustomed to Principal Theresa sharing words of wisdom.
  • EX Special Attack: Luna Kindred has a special attack where she turns her mechanical cross into a poleaxe and smashes enemies with it, dealing bleeding Damage Over Time. It comes with a special stocks-gauge that is filled with her normal attacks on bleeding enemies or her Ultimate Skill (and evading at the right time) and expended by using the axe move; it can be performed with the gauge depleted but she'll swing the axe slower and deal less damage.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: An artificially created one, being born in a lab by splicing Kallen's DNA with a powerful Honkai beast called "Vishnu".
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: She was one with Cecilia in the past, as she was the one (other than Otto) that didn't deny Theresa respect or treat her as a non-human due to what she is. She actually got jealous towards Siegfried due to this; in one of the supplementary comics, she says to the "virtual" version of him that she still can't forgive him for "stealing" Cecilia from her, but nonetheless, the two are on good enough terms.
  • Honorary Uncle: Kiana casually calls her "Auntie", which occasionally irritates her.
  • Impossibly Cool Weapon: While other characters have more mundane weapons, Theresa uses complex mechanical crosses that can do various things and visibly transform to attack.
  • Iron Maiden: Violet Executer's default outfit has metallic "juttings" from her hip that are modeled after iron maidens. They can also hurt enemies (for little damage) if she uses her evasion move at close range.
  • Little Miss Badass: Theresa has been accustomed to being on the battlefield against Honkai forces from a young age. It gets muddled in the present, however, as she merely looks like a little girl but is Older Than She Looks.
  • Magical Girl:
    • She has a special costume for Sakuno Rondo that turns her into one, with lots of pink, white and frills. There's also a special cross weapon that goes with the costume, Super Dimension Sonata, which looks more like a Magic Staff than a cross but is still used like the latter would, and said weapon attacks with "magical lasers".
    • In the Dating Sim mode, her bond cutscenes have her thinking that she's the "Magical Girl Teriri", supposedly due to Tesla's hypnotism-induced amnesia. You, the captain, are going to accompany her and follow her whims; however, in a later scene, Yae Sakura suspects that Theresa might've been Faking Amnesianote  due to the stress of her work and wanting to be "someone else" for some time.
  • Our Vampires Are Different: Luna Kindred is described as one, with her needing to sustain herself by drinking blood. The unique thing about her is that her bite turns affected people into undead-like beings that are effectively immortal as long as Luna Kindred lives courtesy of Otto adding in some energy from the Key of the Devourer in her creation. In gameplay, she has a passive skill where, if she attacks enemies with bleeding status, she'll heal herself bit by bit.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: As a clone who benefits from the genes of a powerful Honkai beast, Theresa boasts immense physical strength despite her petite body, handling the Oath of Judah with incredible ease even though it's around around three times as heavy as she is. On a more comical note, she can manhandle Kiana with one arm and drag her off for "training".
  • Power Limiter: In Ch. 10, Einstein reveals to her that she has only been using around 15% of her potential power this whole time. The Honkai Beast "Vishnu" that was used for her creation gives her high potential power, but its use is intentionally limited by Otto for the fear that Theresa might explode violently if she pushed herself too much. Her Blood Knight: Moonlight suitnote  has a module that can let her use more of said power, but said module is restricted by a protocol program, which Einstein offers to lift. Later on, she tries to use said ability; it allows her to withstand and decimate a lot of Honkai Beasts. Lifting part of that limiter is the basis for her Twilight Paladin suit, Violet Executer's "Augment Core".
  • Reincarnation: Due to her kind and protective personality (that the other Kallen homunculi seem to lack), Otto thought that she may be a reincarnation of Kallen. He's highly doubtful of it, however, as the concept of "reincarnation" isn't easily comprehensible by known science. Nevertheless, he dotes on her a lot because of it.
  • Roaring Rampage of Rescue: The end of Chapter 6, continuing to Ch. 7, shows that Theresa would go against Otto with her own forces in order to rescue the kidnapped Kiana.
  • Self-Applied Nickname: She tends to call herself "Teri-Teri". In-game, she says this when doing an Ultimate Evasion, and when using the Japanese voices, one of her dialogue pieces during her Victory Pose is "Teri-Teri daishouri!"note
  • Situational Damage Attack: Valkyrie Pledge has a sub-skill (that can be toggled on or off) that enhances her Charged Attack depending on how many combo hits she's made beforehand. The combo counter will be reset after the attack, however.
  • Sticks to the Back: Her cross freely floats behind her back whenever it's not being used. The supplementary comics reveal that Theresa actually carries her weapon by chaining her body to it, which is shown in her Stigmata set.
  • Storm of Blades:
    • Valkyrie Pledge's ultimate skill has her summon multiple spears raining from above onto enemies in front of her.
    • Celestial Hymn's QTE skill summons falling swords around her, while her ultimate skill has her create an Unrealistic Black Hole that sucks enemies in and then causes a series of swords to fly around continuously, shredding enemies caught within.
    • Some of her cross weapons' active skills create this at a radius, such as Oath of Judah, Pledge of Sakura and Hekate's Gloom.
  • Swiss Army Weapon: Her signature weapon, the Divine Key Oath of Judah, is capable of a lot more things than what the game shows. The supplementary comics show its other capabilities: shooting out powerful chains that strongly bind targets, becoming a Honkai energy detector, and, at full power, shutting down any energy around it. Oh, and holding multiple kitchen utensils.
  • Throwing Your Sword Always Works: She mainly attacks by throwing out spinning swords/spears out of nowhere that fly like boomerangs. As Sakuno Rondo, they're flying katanas.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: She's a fiend for bitter melon, especially juiced. Similarly to Kiana, she uses bitter melon as her mooncake filling.
  • The Turretmaster: Her cross is used like a turret; once she plants it in the ground, it activates and gives an offensive/supportive Area of Effect around it for a few seconds.
  • Unusual Ears: She gains a pair of her own fox ears in her Sakuno Rondo battle suit. In-story (as shown in the supplementary comic), this comes from Sakura planting her Stigma onto Theresa's body.
  • Vague Age: Her bio lists her age as "a secret". The Extra Stage "Everlasting Memory" clears it somewhat: She was born around 1971-1973; as the game's present takes place in 2014-2016, this pegs her age in the 40s.
  • Violence Is Not an Option: In one of the supplementary comics, in the climax, she's fighting Hellmaru. Even though she has transformed into Celestial Hymn at that point, the beast still overwhelms her; not only that, it's entering her mind, and trying to sway her by making her give in to her inner hatred (of Otto). At this point, she has come to the conclusion that "nothing good comes out of hatred" and decides to forgive said beast instead. Hellmaru is moved by this (as it has known nothing but hatred since 50.000 years ago) and voluntarily goes dormant.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: She's afraid of ghosts. In the Second Eruption manga, she investigates the Babylon Tower's staff disappearance with fellow A-rank Valkyrie Patricia Highsmith, and is worried that a ghost might be the culprit. Patricia is amused that Theresa, who can defeat even Emperor-level Honkai Beasts, is still afraid of something like ghosts, which adds a cute side to her. In the "HOMU Rush!" event, one of the trials that her team has to pass through is a "test of courage" filled with prop "ghosts", which makes her go berserk as she tries to destroy any "ghost" that she sees with her Oath of Judah.

The Class Monitor

An A-rank Valkyrie who used to be in the same class as Kiana in St. Freya Academy. She was a hardworking honor student with excellent grades, but also shrouded in mystery. Seemingly has a connection to Archbishop Otto.

Her battlesuits are Valkyrie Accipiter (A-rank PSY-type), Shadow Knight (S MECH), Phoenix (S PSY) and Night Squire (A BIO).

  • The Ace: Fu Hua was among the best (if not the best) of Kiana's generation at her academy in both academics and fighting skills, and she's also popular with the students. It helped that she's a 50000+ year old war veteran.
  • A-Cup Angst: She's painfully aware of her lack of assets, and is irritated when someone reminds her of it, even if it's unintentional.
    • In the supplementary comic, she gets irritated when "Wraith", a Schicksal spy and informant, shows off her Shapeshifting ability to give herself large breasts.
    • In an omake chapter of the Second Eruption manga, Kiana gets to play Honkai Impact 3rd and remarks that like Bronya and Theresa, the Fu Hua she controls has no Jiggle Physics. Fu Hua is understandably mortified.
    • In her side story "The Forgotten", there is this exchange...
Nuwa: *making a figurine* There's also your pitiful stature. Let me just make you a bit more charming.
Fu Hua: OK, what you just said was all pretty insulting to me.
      Otto: Haha, interesting.
      Fu Hua: Shut up.
  • All Chinese People Know Kung-Fu: The only playable Chinese character in the game, and a martial arts master who uses her hands and feet to smash mechas and Honkai beasts.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: In her backstory, she was shunned for being the Sole Survivor of the squad that was betrayed by the old civilization's equivalent of Himeko, who was corrupted into becoming the 7th Herrscher and had to be killed by Kevin Kaslana. Fu Hua gained the mocking nickname of "Firewytch's Little Birdie" due to her adoration for the late Captain Himeko, but she still fought for Fire Moth anyway, eventually becoming Dr. Mei's first successful M.A.N.T.I.S. super soldier.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: In her Night Squire suit's default costume. Said suit's bio mentions that she used to wear it for an infiltration mission in the past, and Bronya even lampshades it.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: With her "weapons" being Power Fists, she uses martial arts to fight the Honkai.
  • Bifauxnen: She's quite handsome in the Night Squire battlesuit, leading players to call her Butler Fuka.
  • Broken Pedestal: Fu Hua was very loyal to Otto and even considered him as a friend. But during Chapter 9, he informed her that he had no intention of saving Kiana from the 2nd Herrscher and that the possibility of at least one of her friends dying was all within his plans. It was at that moment that Fu Hua realised how truly insane and uncaring he was, to the point that she briefly goes Laughing Mad. In a later chapter, she mentions how she had put her trust in the wrong person.
  • Brought Down to Badass: Fu Hua was a powerful immortal being and a One-Man Army who defeated Schicksal's forces and its strongest Valkyrie Kallen all by herself when they waged war in China 500 years ago. Many years later, for unknown reasons, she lost most of her power and turned into a normal human, and sought Otto's help to protect China in exchange for working for Schicksal. She entered St. Freya Academy as an A-rank Valkyrie though her ability is on par of an S-rank.
  • Class Representative: She used to be one in Kiana's class.
  • Combat Medic: Valkyrie Accipiter, while doing the least damage out of Fu Hua's battlesuits, has some ways to heal herself, and one of her Ultimate Skills can heal the whole team by a certain amount. In co-op plays, her team skill is to drop HP-recovery items for the team.
  • The Comically Serious: In the event stories, she still acts seriously even in more lighthearted situations, which is often pointed out.
  • Consummate Professional: Fu Hua, for the most part, is a disciplined and straight-laced person who takes most things seriously and will try to give her all in what she does. This puts her at odds with the more easygoing Kiana.
  • Cool Mask: When Shadow Knight enters her Super Mode, she wears a metallic mask. Her boss version wears it at all times.
  • Deadly Lunge: One of Shadow Knight's and Night Squire's combos ends with Fu Hua doing a shoulder charge attack.
  • Disc-One Nuke: Fu Hua's Night Squire battle suit is a powerful A-rank Creature-type attacker that is simple to acquire and upgrade (by farming her fragments). The twist is that even in late-game, she's still quite viable (with good enough equipment, that is).
  • Double Agent: Chapters 6 and 7 reveal that Fu Hua was sent to St. Freya Academy as Otto's spy, and that she brought Kiana to Schicksal HQ on his orders, as she knew from Otto that Kiana has the 2nd Herrscher in her body and that Schicksal may try to fix that problem. However, she also cares enough for her friends and Theresa (and the 2nd Herrscher threatening people in general, which she didn't expect to happen) that she at least ordered Rita to just imprison Himeko and Tesla, and later went to fight the Herrscher of the Void in order to buy time for Bronya to escape with Mei and Theresa.
  • Dub Name Change: Downplayed in the Japanese version. Fu Hua is called "Fuka", which is simply the onyomi reading of Fu Hua (符华).
  • Everything's Better with Chickens: Her personal mascot is a white bird. It's a parody of her "incarnation" as the bird Jingwei; it's supposed to be a phoenix but it looks closer to a chicken.
  • Exposition of Immortality: In the dorm, she occasionally mutters to herself about Xuanyuan and Shennong (characters from thousand years past), as well as remarking that Nuwa and Fuxi (revered figures of ancient China) look different in the history books. That's because she has indeed lived that long—much longer than anyone else, in fact.
  • EX Special Attack: Night Squire has "special combos" that are done by using different button combinations in her combos instead of just one. The third strike of each special combo will consume one stock of the special gauge (which is replenished with the third strike of her "normal combos") to become stronger; they can be done with the gauge depleted, but they won't give extra effects.
  • Eye Color Change: Her eyes change color to red as Phoenix.
  • The Fog of Ages: Since she's 50,000 or so years old, she remembers little about her past aside from her duty to guard the sacred land. It's shown in her side story "The Forgotten", where she and Otto try exploring her past memories, which are mostly fragmented, with the only "accessible" parts being those few she can muster to remember.
  • Gamer Chick: Fu Hua sees gaming more as a challenge to better herself, which is referenced in various events. She ends up seeing Bronya as her rival of sorts.
  • Gathering Steam: Phoenix has a special red bar above her SP gauge. The more it's filled, the stronger her fire attacks become, and it's filled by alternating her combo moves.
  • Get a Hold of Yourself, Man!: When Kiana manages to control Herrscher of the Void's power by her own will, Fu Hua is impressed. But then Kiana cries, saying "if only I can do this sooner..."Spoilers!  Fu Hua then tells her that her late teacher wouldn't like it if she keeps wallowing in regret and grief, and hoped for Kiana to live happily and move forward. She then stops crying.
  • Ground Punch: All versions of Fu Hua (except for Phoenix) have a similar attack for their normal switch-in and QTE: she falls from above striking the ground with her fist. Her different suits give different effects to the QTE attack.
    • Valkyrie Accipiter does this in two of her special combos (which also double as her Ultimate Skills if you hold the button).
    • Shadow Knight does this in one of her special combos, and her Ultimate Skill. During her Super Mode, it also creates an Area of Effect that increases her lightning damage against enemies within.
  • Hero-Worshipper: She has a lot of respect for Himeko, who is her teacher. One of the supplementary comics shows that it went for longer than it seems: In the previous advanced civilization, back when Fu Hua was a novice soldier, her captain, the older incarnation of Himeko, helped and guided her a lot... until the latter becomes the Herrscher of Flame and then was killed by Fire Moth's forces. Fu Hua's desire and determination to work her hardest for her (late) captain was partly what allowed her to transform a replica of the Xuanyuan Sword into a weapon more fitting for her: Grips of Tai Xuan, one of the Divine Keys in the game.
  • Journey to the Center of the Mind:
    • It's implied that this happens in Bronya's side story "Dilemma Dreamland" where she appears inside Bronya's mind, trying to help Bronya fix her mind. Before this, we're treated to the scene of Fu Hua's hand over the unconscious Bronya's head, then it cuts to black while white feathers fall down, before it cuts into the inside of Bronya's mind with Fu Hua in it. Chapter 9-EX2 has her reappear inside Bronya's mind, now in her Phoenix outfit. She reveals that she isn't the real Fu Hua, but rather one of her "feathers" that she left inside Bronya's mind, through the power of her personal Divine Key, "Fenghuang Down" (the hair ornament that ties her ponytail).
    • Later on, she appears again in ch. 11-EX, now inside Kiana's mind. This time, she mentions that she has set her Fenghuang Down in such a way that her soul is now bonded with Kiana's (meaning that it's now the real her, not her "feathers"). She did so in order to watch over Kiana and prevent her Herrscher self from resurfacing, out of guilt of what she had done towards Kiana and because Himeko believed in the white-haired girl, but she can only do so much for around 3 months because Kiana refused to talk to her, thinking of her as just an illusionnote . It's not until Fu Hua tries to prevent her from taking her own life that Kiana starts opening herself to her, allowing her to help Kiana fight Sirin inside her mind, suppressing Sirin in the end. Fu Hua mentally says that if the worst case happens, she has to end their lives together; she can only mentally apologize to Kiana.
  • Kamehame Hadoken: Valkyrie Accipiter's special attack button lets her throw out up to 3 energy shots out of her palms. It can be charged to make her throw out a stronger one that pierces through enemies, but it'll cost 25 SP.
  • Letting Her Hair Down: In Night Squire's second costume.
  • Living Relic: She, Nuwa and Fuxi are the last survivors of a previous human civilization that had existed at least 50,000 years ago but was destroyed by a Herrscher. They had been put to sleep and then awakened 5000 years before the events of the story, making her at least 50,000 years old.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Fu Hua's Ultimate Skill button is replaced with a "special attack" button. Her extra attacks are done by pressing said button either by itself, or after her normal combos. She still has Ultimate Skills, but they're done by holding the button.
  • My Death Is Just the Beginning: In Chapter 9, Otto seemingly shoots her dead with a replica of Judgment of Shamash. Later, she shows up as a ghost (in her Phoenix outfit), guiding Himeko to get the Vermilion Knight battlesuit stored in Helheim Labs, in order to gain an edge against Herrscher of the Void and halt Otto's plans. After thanking Himeko for all of her teachings and wishing farewell, she vanishes for good. It's implied (retroactively, from the reveal in ch. 9-EX2) that this ghost is just one of Fu Hua's "feathers" instead of the real her, but the trope is still in play as the real Fu Hua was shown "dropping feathers" onto Himeko when the latter was unconscious.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: She is clearly not happy with her role in the Herrscher of the Void's awakening.
  • The Phoenix: One of her Valkyrie suits is simply called Phoenix. It lets her manipulate fire in her attacks and her Ultimate Skill with it is to briefly turn into a fiery phoenix and then crash to the ground to create a big blast of fire.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair:
    • Inverted; she used to have white hair during her days as Jingwei (the basis of her Phoenix battlesuit) 5000 years ago. When she lost most of her powers, her hair turned grey.
    • Played straight in one of Night Squire's costumes in which her hair turns light pink similar to Phoenix's when she activates her Ultimate.
  • Power Glows: If she has enough SP to perform an Ultimate Skill, her hands will glow to indicate it.
  • Pro-Human Transhuman: As the immortal that guided humans to create civilisation anew and guarded a sacred land (China), people revered her (well, Jingwei) as a goddess.
  • Rapidfire Fisticuffs: One of Shadow Knight's special combos in her Super Mode is to throw lightning-fast punches at enemies. In a variant, one of Night Squire's special combos has her doing a flurry of kicks.
  • Serious Business: In the Dating Sim mode's date scenes with Fu Hua, she takes "getting high scores in arcade games" seriously as part of her training.
  • Shoryuken: A part of one of Valkyrie Accipiter's special combos has her do a jumping uppercut.
  • Skunk Stripe: She has a red stripe in her light pink hair as Phoenix.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: Played with. While she is smart and wears glasses, those glasses are actually high-tech Schicksal equipment; her eyesight is actually normal, and in 2 of her Valkyrie suits, she doesn't wear it.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: In short, Fu Hua is the reason for the big events in the chapters after Ch. 6, due to a genuine mistake on her part. She beats Kiana down and brings her to Otto, thinking that he'd help with the Herrscher problem. Otto's real plan, however, is to awaken the Herrscher of the Void (and pit her against her teammates in order to make her controllable), and by the time Fu Hua realizes this, it's too late. She fights the Herrscher in her friends' stead, then Otto makes the Herrscher escape and (seemingly) shoots her dead for being a Spanner in the Works. She then tries to amend things by helping Himeko fight the Herrscher (the former of which Fu Hua beat down prior to the reveal), and later bonds her soul to Kiana's after the Herrscher is suppressed. Not to mention that the Herrscher caused a large-scale Honkai eruption around the world before she was put down.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: In Chapter 11-EX Kiana angrily calls her out on being a Double Agent for Otto and kidnapping her, blaming her for everything that's happened. It takes a while, but Kiana does forgive her later.
  • You Don't Look Like You: She is the same person as Jingwei. However, the Jingwei stigmata looks different from Fu Hua, with red hair and large bust. In the Extra Story "The Forgotten", Nuwa made up this image of Jingwei thinking people might get interested in Jingwei's stories if she made her look hotter (she didn't take it too kindly).

    Yae Sakura

Voiced by: Ayane Sakura (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gyakushinn_miko.png
The Miko Priestess

Sakura is the shrine maiden of the Yae Village, born centuries before the game's present. Her sister ended up being sacrificed in one of the village’s rituals, causing her to bear great hatred and bitterness towards the villagers. Afterwards, she found Kallen Kaslana wounded near her village, with the two eventually forming an intimate relationship. Despite her friendship with Kallen, she still felt hatred towards her village, eventually becoming possessed by the Honkai box that Kallen carried and becoming a pseudo-Herrscher. She was quickly defeated and sealed up by Kallen, and for years afterward, she existed in a "stigmata world" where she was forced to relieve her dark past countless times, until the events of Sakura Samsara finally broke her free from the loop as the Honkai beast inside the box was slain. She later manifests in the real world by borrowing Mei's body.

Her battlesuits are Gyakushinn Miko (A-rank BIO-type, awakened Crimson Impulse), Goushinshou Memento (S MECH, awakened Shadow Dash), and Flame Sakitama (A BIO, awakened Valkyrie Bladestrike).

  • Adorkable: While mostly serious, she is not totally safe from messing up adorably, like when she made sushi by mistake when it was intended to be a rice ball.
  • Alternate Self: Part of Ch. 12 is set in a "bubble universe"note  in the Sea of Quanta which features her as Goshinsou Memento.note  She's looking for her missing sister, who was kidnapped by the forces of Fire Moth, causing Sakura to defect from the group and to break into their base, while taking Seele on tow. She dies at the middle of the chapter, and the bubble universe dissolved with her.
  • Antiquated Linguistics: She talks in an old-fashioned way because she indeed comes from such an era.
  • Balance Buff: While many other characters' battlesuits have had buff updates from time to time, version 3.4 gives Goshinsou Memento a lot of them at once, dramatically increasing her damage potential. Her normal combo deals more ice damage, the last hit of which gives her a damage buff for a few seconds, her iai strikes are easier and less obtrusive to perform, she can fill her special gauge faster, and her Ultimate Skill not only fills more of her gauge (to almost full!) but also quickly regenerates it afterward for some seconds, allowing her to spam her iai strikes more often. The best part of this is that these upgrades are not locked behind Augment Core.
  • Cherry Blossom Girl: Her name specifically refers to the "Yaezakura" variety of cherry blossoms, which has multi-layered petals and is comparatively less "delicate" than other varieties.
  • Criss-Cross Attack: Flame Sakitama's Ultimate Skill has her lunging through multiple opponents with dashing flaming slashes, before entering a Super Mode where time is slowed and she attacks much faster.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: The death of her little sister caused her to be bitter and resentful towards her village, which ended up being the catalyst for the fox Honkai Beast to possess her.
  • Deadly Lunge: as Gyakushin Miko (her default outfit):
    • Her branch attack (also doable after an Ultimate Evasion) is a quick dashing slash through her target; it's a useful move to get into a melee range with them. If there are enemies with the "sakura mark" (applied onto enemies with her normal attacks, Ultimate Evasion, QTE, or one of her elite weapons), she'll automatically slash through them one by one when the branch attack is performed. After she's done slashing them, she'll then sheath her sword and the sakura marks burst, dealing high damage for both the enemies' HP and their shields.
    • Her Ultimate Skill has her enter a Super Mode where she'll perform the same dash-through slash attack with each press of the attack button until the duration ends. Like before, she'll then sheath her sword and the enemies get one final strong hit.
  • Demonic Possession: When she came into contact with the Honkai box that Kallen brought with her, the Honkai energy inside it leaked into her, causing her to be possessed with a Honkai Beast in the shape of a Kitsune named "Hellmaru" and become a pseudo-Herrscher.
  • Disc-One Nuke: Her Gyakushinn Miko battlesuit is one, due to her quick attacks, fast dashes, and good damage output making much of the game’s early content very easy.
  • Dual Wielding: Flame Sakitama has an extra wakizashi (alongside the equippable katanas); downplayed in that she only uses it in a few of her moves.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: As Flame Sakitama, she has an arm sleeve and white glove on her right arm, and Japanese-style arm armor with bared shoulder for her left arm.
  • Full-Name Basis: Unlike other characters, she's usually referred to as "Yae Sakura" by the game.
  • Gathering Steam: After reaching SS rank, Flame Sakitama gains a gauge that fills up whenever she uses her flaming slashes; the more filled the gauge, the stronger her total damage becomes.
  • Grand Theft Me: Due to what happened to her in the past and the present, she's left as a bodiless soul; she "borrows" Mei's body when Mei allows it, causing them to share Mei's character level and some of her skills.
  • Heroic BSoD: Her Alternate Self in ch. 12 undergoes this when she discovers her sister's dead body.
  • Iaijutsu Practitioner: As Goushinsou Memento, her branch attack is a series of very fast unsheath-resheath slashes that can hit the enemy from a (medium range) distance. Her Ultimate Skill is a more powerful version of it.
  • Invulnerable Attack: For the duration of Gyakushin Miko's Ultimate Skill, she'll be invulnerable (even to the Abyss' health drain) as long as she keeps using her Single-Stroke Battle move.
  • "Just Frame" Bonus: Flame Sakitama is able to do an alternate finisher for her normal combo or her branch attack by timing the button tap just right. Said finisher deals pure fire damage, and, if she's SS ranked, will fill her special red gauge.
  • Lag Cancel: Flame Sakitama has a special trait where canceling her combos with a dash will not reset her combo, i.e canceling the first strike into her dash and then attacking again will make her start with the 2nd strike instead of the 1st one again. This is useful since her gameplay is majorly tied to the special finisher part of her normal combo, so that this system makes sure the dash won't cancel the entire combo sequence.
  • Last Request: Around the middle of ch. 12, her Alternate Self is slowly dying from her wounds and asks Kevin to bring Seele out to see Sakura's town, saying that the world is ultimately still beautiful and worth fighting for. This is after the 12th Herrscher hijacked the Fire Moth's systems and launched multiple nukes that obliterated the last 3 human cities, including her hometown. Kevin recounts that there was nothing but wasteland where the sakura tree used to be when he visited it.
  • Miko: It's her day job to protect her village from demons and exorcize them, and it comes complete with the stereotypical (albeit modified) outfit. She isn't all that happy about her job, however.
  • Modesty Shorts: As Gyakushin Miko, she wears white shorts underneath her skirt, although this is absent in her Super-Deformed form in the dorm.
  • Ornamental Weapon: Each of her outfits has a sheathed long katana that she never uses.
  • Playing with Syringes: During the Anniversary Memories Festival, she appeared as a nurse in a recently opened clinic and she is first shown injecting a tree with a huge syringe.
  • Promoted to Playable: Yae Sakura was a World Boss character in the preceding game Guns GirlZ. In this game, she is playable and has her own side story.
  • The Resenter: She became bitter and hateful towards the villagers after they had her sister sacrificed in the ritual. The villagers' Entitled Bastard attitude towards her doesn't help matters either.
  • Samurai: Her fighting style is closer to this when compared to Mei's, although she's just as quick with her katana. As Flame Sakitama, she also dons a more samurai-like outfit.
  • Sharing a Body: Gameplay-wise, she is an Awakening-type character bound to Mei. All of her battlesuits are fused with Mei's (except Lightning Empress). However, Mei's battlesuits aren't required to be unlocked to unlock their respective Sakura battlesuits.
  • Sword Beam:
    • Gyakushin Miko's QTE attack is to roll forward while shooting out 3 crescent beams out of her sword that gives Sakura Marks to the enemies hit.
    • Goushinsou Memento's QTE attack is a crescent beam attack that freezes the enemies solid.
  • Time Stands Still: Her Alternate Self in ch. 12 seems to possess this ability; using her special blade, she "freezes space-time continuum", allowing her to go past Kevin without him noticing and, later, holding Seele from helping her save "what's left of her sister".
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Yae Sakura likes making and eating rice balls.
  • Transformation of the Possessed: Hellmaru's possession of her caused her to gain long animal-like ears. Later, a cutscene shows how being possessed by Sakura causes Mei's body and clothes to transform.
  • Unusual Ears: She has a set of long ears coming out of the top of her head due to her being possessed by a fox-like Honkai Beast. It's extra unusual in that the ears are elongated, making them look like rabbit ears. During the "Odd Drifter" event, she's sometimes referred to as "donkey girl" because of the ears.
  • You Are Too Late: Her Alternate Self in ch. 12 is trying to save her sister, Rin, who's captured by the Fire Moth's soldiers. On the way, Kevin blocks her path... but then a Red Alert siren comes off, distracting him and allowing her and Seele to go forward. That siren was an alert about the 12th Herrscher's awakening... which means that, according to one supplementary comic (and later revealed in-game), Rin is already dead by the Fire Moth soldiers' hands, which caused the Herrscher - as The Virus - to awaken. Appropriately, she's overcome with shock and grief when she eventually finds Rin's dead body. But upon hearing Dr. Mei's alert about how the virus has infected the Fire Moth's systems, Sakura thinks her sister's still "alive" and then goes away, trying to stop her. She then gets gravely wounded by the corrupted defense systems and robots, but Dr. Mei confirms that the virus' actions become "aberrant" by this act, which allows her to capture it into "the black box". After knowing that, Sakura slowly dies smiling.
  • Zettai Ryouiki: Gyakushin Miko has it, ranked A, with her white stockings. Goshinsou Memento also has it, but only on her right leg.

    Kallen Kaslana

Voiced by: Nana Mizuki (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/imayoh_ritual.png
The Legend Paladin

Kiana's ancestor, who lived in the 15th century. The legendary Valkyrie of the Kaslana family, she stopped numerous Honkai threats together with the Schicksal organization, and was close friends with Otto Apocalypse.

While at first she was a dutiful warrior, over time she questioned Schicksal's policies and methods, and ended up running away from them while taking their "Honkai box" with her, ending with her being lost in Yae Sakura's village. Sakura rescued her, and from there the two shared a bond over their similar circumstances; however, Sakura's resentment caused her to be possessed by the Honkai Beast inside said box, and she would've gone through with destroying her village had Kallen not sealed her away. She was then found by Schicksal's agents and carried back to Europe to be executed for her rebellion, but Otto released multiple Honkai Beasts upon the city as a distraction so the two could run away. Kallen, though, cared more about the people and decided to protect them and fight the beasts instead, which ended in her death.

Her battlesuits are Imayoh Ritual (A-rank MECH-type, awakened White Comet), Sixth Serenade (S PSY, awakened Divine Prayer) and Sündenjäger (A-rank MECH-type, awakened Valkyrie Ranger).

  • The Ace: Kallen is the first S-rank Valkyrie in Schicksal's records.
  • Armor-Piercing Slap:
    • When Otto shouted at Kallen that he didn't want her to senselessly sacrifice herself and "look at what happened to your father", she responded with this, feeling that Otto was being too insulting to the man who saved the two from Honkai Beasts back then. This reminded Otto of the time when they were kids, where she gave him one for trying to resurrect her father.
    • She later gave one to Otto for releasing Honkai Beasts on the city and killing multiple people by proxy just to stop her execution.
  • Back from the Dead: A special story in the Dating Sim mode (taking place in 2006) shows her alive and running around as Himeko's acquaintance. She's apparently hunting a vampire that existed in a rumor that is threatening people's lives. That vampire is Luna Kindred, who was made as a tool by Otto to resurrect her "sister" by using her special bite. Kallen knows that she (Kallen herself) is supposed to be dead and her living state is a wrong one, and thus seeks Luna Kindred in order to not just stop her from threatening the populace with her bloodlust but also to allow herself to die again (as her life is tied to Luna Kindred's, courtesy of the bite). In a further twist, her bio mentions that she doesn't feel like she's Kallen, which implies that she's her own identity/consciousness and not the same Kallen's soul. This persona of Kallen is the basis of her Sündenjäger battlesuit.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: While she has her heart in the right place (compared to most other members of Schicksal at the time), she can't help but be helpful to others and be "the shield of the people", sometimes to her detriment. This is shared with a good number of other Kaslana family members, including her own father.
  • Church Militant: She was part of one, the Schicksal, and even wore a nun getup in combat.
  • Cool Mask: Kallen has a crow-like opera mask to go with her Phantom Thief outfit as Sixth Serenade. During the Sakura Samsara side story, the mask appears multiple times in the sections of the Celestial Castle, which clues in her presence. Sixth Serenade's ultimate skill has her wear it on her face before unleashing the move.
  • Criss-Cross Attack: Sixth Serenade's Ultimate Skill has her performing quick dashes in the air multiple times, hitting enemies in a large area, before she falls down for a finisher attack that deals more damage and activates her special cross.
  • Dash Attack: Sixth Serenade has a special attack where she dashes through enemies after splitting into 2 shadow bodies. She has to fill a special bar for it, but it deals potent ice damage.
  • Dub Name Change: Sündenjäger is German for "Sin Hunter", the original name of the battlesuit.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Kallen's Imayoh Ritual battlesuit has her wear a single red glove on her left hand and single black stocking on her left leg.
  • Gratuitous Spanish: As Sündenjäger, she shouts "Hasta la vista!!" when deploying her ultimate.
  • Gun Twirling: Kallen's victory pose has an extravagant variation, as she tosses her left-hand pistol into the air to twirl it before catching it and brandishing it toward the player.
  • Heal Thyself: Sündenjäger can heal herself slightly by performing Ultimate Evasion. If her health is under 30%, using Ultimate Evasion or Ultimate Skill will rapidly heal her until her health reaches above said threshold.
  • Heroic Resolve: In one of the supplementary comics, she's faced with the will inside of the Honkai box (which took the form of a shadowy version of the boss Jizo Mitama) who tried to possess her body. When said "will" restrained her and was about to strike her, the "spirit" of her late father appeared to save her and awaken the resolve of the Kaslana's faith, allowing her to defeat the "monster" and make it go dormant. As the Sakura Samsara side story shows, this feat made the box recognize Kallen as "the strongest being in its memory" and then create an "image" of her to defend itself.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: In the past, in her fight with the possessed Sakura, she ended up taking her sword to the gut, but she keeps on fighting. Later on, she got impaled while defending the helpess people from a Honkai Beast, this time resulting in her death.
  • Impossibly Cool Weapon: Kallen mainly uses pistols, but she was the first user of the Oath of Judah cross before Theresa, and two of her battlesuits have cross weapons available to them:
    • As Imayoh Ritual, she has a cross named Eliudnir that she uses in her branch attack and QTE (where it turns into a BFG that shoots a Wave Motion Gun) and her ultimate skill (where it turns into a turret gun that fires multiple beam shots).
    • As Sixth Serenade, she uses Selune's Elegy, a cross that looks like a masked crow, in her Ultimate Skill. This one floats in the air when activated, immobilizes enemies in the area and makes her special gauge (that fuels her branch attack) fill much faster.
    • As Sündenjäger, she instead has a contraption consisting of 4 machine guns and 4 missile launchers that she uses in her Ultimate Skill.
  • Living Memory:
    • In one supplementary comic, Kiana and Bronya stumble into a particular virtual recreation of history, specifically, around the time Kallen was about to be executed, with the people in it (including Kallen) being all virtual. Kallen herself, however, notes that something seems to change about her, including how she recognizes herself as a living memory (when one normally shouldn't).
    • In a variant, the Phantom Thief Kallen that appears at the end of Sakura Samsara's side story and the Raid co-op stage "Soul Throne" is an artificial construct made by the Honkai box in order to guard the sword Jizo Mitamanote . The will of the box recognized the thief Kallen as the strongest being in Higokumaru's memory, so the box used her "image" as the sword's guardian. At first, this Kallen lacks any memories of the original one, but due to the Higokumaru's Herrscher core effect, it slowly brings her memories back; by the time Sakura meets and embraces her, Kallen regains her full memories.
  • Long Dead Badass: She was dead 500 years before the game's present.
  • Long-Range Fighter: Sündenjäger favors fighting by shooting her pistols, contrasting the melee Pistol Whip fighting style of Kallen's other battlesuits.
  • Moveset Clone: Her boss version (in Sakura Samsara) has Divine Prayer (Kiana's) combo attack, in addition to several handguns' weapon skills. She can also use the Oath of Judah cross when her health goes low.
  • No Man Should Have This Power: In the past, after she battled her friend who was corrupted by the "Honkai box", she declared that the box shouldn't fall to the hands of any human, which is why she stole it.
  • No-Sell: Her boss version is immune to elemental damage. In Sakura Samsara, this makes her immune to the "soul cannon" trick. She also is immune to the bomb from the "bombing" mission, and heavily resists damage from stealth kills.
  • Phantom Thief: What Sixth Serenade is. She speaks in a romantic, flowery way in this battlesuit.
    • In one supplementary comic, after seeing a poor mother being mooched of her money by a Schicksal member, she became one (helped by Otto), who stole money from rich people (including that Schicksal member) and gave it to the poor. She later reappears at the end of Sakura Samsara's side story, stealing the sword Jizo Mitama away for some reason. Her Sixth Serenade battle suit is taken from her thief depiction.
    • Played for laughs in the Dating Sim mode, where her "justice rogue" persona is played way up, usually causing various shenanigans.
  • Pillar of Light: If Sündenjäger is ranked SS, her Ultimate Skill will cause lasers to fall from above to hit her target for 15 seconds.
  • Sean Connery Is About to Shoot You: In her Victory Pose, she throws her gun up, then catches it and then aims it towards the camera (at an angle).
  • Situational Damage Attack: Imayoh Ritual's branch attack requires Kallen to fill a gauge with 3 separate sections. The more it's filled, the stronger the attack becomes as the gauge is depleted.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: While Otto had done some questionable deeds even before her death, Kallen's death just made him even more driven and obsessive, and made him do even more of those deeds, dooming many other people by his hands in the name of trying to resurrect her. This includes tangling with the Herrschers in order to find the "Herrscher of Death", which he believes would be the key to resurrecting Kallen.
  • Worf Had the Flu: The reason she died fighting Honkai Beasts to protect the city is because she was weakened from her battle against the possessed Sakura and she didn't seem to have it healed (that, and she was forced to defend a helpless citizen against a Honkai Beast with her own body).

    Rita Rossweisse

Voiced by: Aoi Yuuki (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/umbral_rose.png
The Maid of Schicksal

One of the three S-ranked Valkyries currently active in Schicksal, Rita is the deputy captain of the "Blade of the Immortal" Valkyrie Squad, as well as the adjutant to fellow S-class Valkyrie Durandal. She's professional, courteous and elegant, but her impersonality makes people unable to find out anything more about her.

Her battlesuits are Umbral Rose (A-rank PSY-type), Stalker: Phantom Iron (A MECH) and Argent Knight: Artemis (S BIO).

  • Affably Evil: Zig-zagged. She's completely loyal to Otto, works to prevent Theresa and the others from finding Kiana in the wake of the events of ch. 9, and has no qualms about killing. At the same time, she is always polite and courteous, since she's as much a maid as she is a Valkyrie. However, while she never gets all the way into Faux Affably Evil territory, how genuine her politeness is seems to depend on who she's talking to. For instance, her interactions with the Captain are always open and friendly, and when set to be on the bridge, she will express concern for the Captain's safety and well-being, make tea, and occasionally flirt. However, during the "Odd Drifter" event, whenever she talks to Tesla, there's a tinge of passive-agressive sarcasm.
  • Ascended Meme: Argent Knight is often called a Stand User (with her "Crescent Harvest" as her stand). In the Chronicles story "Dreams of Gemina" she auditions for a role as a villain, where she does a "Jojo Pose" along with manifesting Crescent Harvest.
  • Assist Character:
    • Phantom Iron's ultimate skill is to summon a robotic 4-legged creature called "Stalker Carbon" that attacks her enemies until her SP runs out.
    • Argent Knight has a scythe-wielding robot companion called "Crescent Harvest" that frequently appears and reappears to attack her enemies.
  • Auto-Revive: At SS-rank, Umbral Rose gains a once-per-battle skill that lets her revive herself back to a fraction of her full health.
  • Boobs of Steel: She's only behind Himeko in the bust department and she's a competent melee combatant who slices and dices with her scythe.
  • Cast from Hit Points: Umbral Rose's Charged Attack has her throwing her scythe forward. It costs a bit of HP and her entire special bar to use, but she'll then get a buff that lets her heal herself with her normal attacks.
  • Consummate Professional: As both a maid and a Valkyrie, Rita does everything with immaculate skill and grace. In one of the lighter moments of ch. 9, it's revealed that this even extends to tying people up.
  • Cool Mask: Rita's Phantom Iron battlesuit has a rebreather-like mask that she only wears during her Super Mode and in a few cutscenes in Chapter 9-EX. Her chibi form permanently wears it though.
  • Cultured Badass: Refined, elegant and has a talent for tea-making and cooking the finest cuisines. She can also tear Honkai to shreds with her scythe.
  • Dash Attack: Phantom Iron's Charged Attack is to dash through the closest enemy while spinning her scythe. This then activates a Super Mode where she moves faster and her attacks become laced with lightning, but her special gauge will fill up (performing Ultimate Evasion and killing enemies will halt the fill-up progress). If it gets full, she'll enter an overheat-like state where she becomes slower until it cools down.
  • The Dragon: Storywise, when she is not fulfilling her duties as a maid she is a ruthless and brutally efficient enforcer for Otto Apocalypse’s will.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Rita falls into this if one considers her crush towards the Captain to be genuine and canon.
  • Evil Brit: She is from Manchester, UK as the Durandal visual novel reveals.
  • The Gadfly: Played with in the dorms. Her chibis' few interactions with the other characters are a mix of concern and gentle needling. For instance, she cautions Theresa about eyestrain from sitting too close to the TV...and then asks her if she wants some milk, saying it'll make her grow taller, which Theresa angrily rejects. There's also this exchange with Himeko:
Himeko: Rita, care to share a glass with me?
Rita: Thank you, but I can't drink.
Himeko: Hmm? Booze is good stuff.
Rita: If I get drunk, no one will be able to take care of you.
Himeko: Take care of me? *frowning kaomoji* Are you saying I'll get drunk?
  • Horns of Villainy: Invoked by the curved, horn-like extensions on the headband she wears as Umbral Rose.
  • Horny Devils: Umbral Rose has a succubus-themed alternate costume. It changes the rosy trails of her dodge move and scythe swings into bats.
  • Human Popsicle: Argent Knight's Charged Attack can encase her opponents in ice—even the normally-unfreezable ones, like bosses—but only after her Crescent Harvest robot has inflicted enough status ailments on the enemy.
  • Irony:
    • Her maid-like mentality makes her a humble and obedient person. In the "Winter Rhapsody" event, however, she's put in the role of the haughty Red Queen. Even if the Queen's role is revealed to be Good All Along, she still tries her best to act as high and mighty as a queen should be, albeit with slips here and there. The Captain points out that she really doesn't fit the role due to her mentality.
    • Other than Mei, Rita is the Valkyrie most openly concerned about the Captain, despite being on Otto’s side and thus technically the Captain's enemy. However, whether this is genuine or simply an act is up for speculation.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: She refuses to disobey any of Otto's orders even when Fu Hua tells her how foolish that is.
  • Mysterious Past: Rita's past prior to becoming a Valkyrie is a total mystery, and there's no telling if/when any details will ever be revealed. The Secret Info for her Umbral Rose version specifically mentions this:
Rita seldom talks about her past. In fact, she does not talk about herself. Many curious people tried to unearth more about her, but Rita kept her secrets hidden very well. No one managed to find out anything. Perhaps only Durandal and fellow Valkyries of the Immortal Blades would know anything about Rita.
  • Ninja Maid: Because of her work as a maid and associated servile attitude and politeness, it's easy to forget that she's a S-rank Valkyrie on par with her leader, Durandal. Her Umbral Rose profile lampshades this, and the battlesuit itself reflects her image of a perfect maid: prim, proper and deadly with the scythe. During the events of ch. 9, she fights Fu Hua to a standstill and may have actually beaten her if Durandal hadn't ordered her to stand down.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: In the "Odd Drifter" event, Rita joins the Captain's party (who's looking for Seele's "sister") to look for her missing "servant". However, when they find Seele's "sister" (Bronya), they also find out that Bronya has Rita's "servant" (Crescent Harvest) in her custody. Rita can only sheepishly say that she's going back to the igloo she was in and waiting for another adventurer who doesn't know Bronya or isn't on her side, but the Captain says it's too late. Rita then turns against the rest of the group, wanting to take her Crescent Harvest back and to reuse the Humongous Mecha that Bronya is guarding. Your party defeats her and she's forced to flee.
  • Peek-a-Bangs: Her left eye is obscured by her hair; artwork tends to completely cover the eye while it can barely be seen in her in-game sprites and her chibi versions in the dorms. This both accents her already considerable beauty and marks her as an antagonist, as she's the only Valkyrie whose hair obscures her face and she serves as Otto's agent and assassin in the Story mode. She's less obviously antagonistic in the side events, but most of her roles have a nefarious edge to them, and she eventually opposes the Captain, Tesla, and Seele during the second half of "Odd Drifter".
  • Proper Tights with a Skirt: Umbral Rose wears brown pantyhose and a black maid's skirt, while Argent Knight wears white pantyhose and a blue and black skirt.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Another hint to Rita being an enemy to Kiana and her friends is that her eyes are a pinkish red similar to the roses on her Umbral Rose battlesuit.
  • Short Hair with Tail: Her Maid of Celestia outfit and Summer 2019 swimsuit both add two long tails to her default prim and proper short cut.
  • A Sinister Clue: She's the only playable character who wields her weapon with her left hand. She's also more villainous than others, even if she acts nice.
  • Something About a Rose: Her last name means "Rose White" (and is a reference to Nibelungenlied), her outfits have rose patterns, and especially as Umbral Rose, she leaves behind rose petals in her evasion move and some of her attacks.
  • Speed Blitz: Umbral Rose's Ultimate Skill has her Flash Stepping around while attacking the target (and its surroundings) from multiple sides, before doing a powerful spinning slash.
  • Summon to Hand: She's capable of summoning her scythe to her hands. This comes in handy when one of Umbral Rose's attacks is to throw the scythe towards enemies—she can simply summon it back.
  • Teleportation: Rita's evasion action is similar to that of Herrscher of the Void's in that she disappears and reappears in a spread of rose petals (Umbral Rose) or sparks of lightning (Phantom Iron) or small snowflakes (Argent Knight). She can't pass through opponents, however.
  • Villain Respect: She may be Otto's agent, and has a lot of blood on her hands by the time ch. 9 ends (along with sabotaging Theresa, Mei, and Bronya's attempt to find Kiana), but she always uses the -sama honorific for Theresa, addresses Mei as part of the influential Raiden family, admits to liking Fu Hua after their fight, and seems genuinely regretful that Fu Hua is dooming herself by choosing to oppose Otto. Outside the Story mode, she always addresses the Captain as "Kanchou-sama", even in situtations where their interactions are more personal and a less proper means of address might be okay.
  • Villainous Crush: Judging by her interactions on the Bridge and her dialogue during "Honkai Kingdom", it's implied that Rita has one for the Captain.
  • Villain Shoes: Half of Chapter 9-EX is from Rita's perspective, as she opposes our heroes' group and tries to get the intel of the missing Kiana's location before the latter's friends do.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: In the "Odd Drifter" event, she appears for the final time in Seele's sidequest, where she retakes the Crescent Harvest from Bronya (after the latter sent it out on an errand) and comes back for retribution... only to see the Captain's group again. She can only sheepishly say that she's going back to the pavilion in the volcano area as its maid, but the Captain says it's too late. Your group then fights her (as Argent Knight) and, when she loses, she flees again and vanishes from the event, as her involvement is never addressed after that.

The Older Hind
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blueberry_blitz.png
The Younger Hind

A pair of twins who belonged to Cocolia's orphanage, and two of Bronya's friends. They used to be normal girls until injuries from Honkai Beasts led to them being put into an experiment where Honkai Beast cells were grafted into them. Nowadays they act on Cocolia's orders.

Rozaliya's battlesuit is Molotov Cherry (S-rank PSY-type). Lilya's battlesuit is Blueberry Blitz (A-rank MECH-type).

  • Age-Inappropriate Dress: The twins are even younger than Bronya and they are running around in elaborate-looking babydolls and stockings. This is actually bowdlerized in-game, as their models' tops have a panel that mostly covers their bellies that isn't there in official artworks.
  • Angsty Surviving Twin: Roza briefly undergoes this when Lili gets absorbed into the Gray Serpent's Assaka form in Ch. 12. But Theresa points out that Lili still can be saved as she isn't completely fused yet. Roza doubts that she can save her sister, but after Theresa's assistance and encouragement, Roza manages to cut the Gray Serpent into fine pieces (something that she claims Lili is better at doing) and finally save Lili.
  • Backported Development: The event "Seele's Diary" is set in the past, back before Rozaliya and Liliya got their enhancements that gave them horns and tails of Honkai Beasts, but they appear in the story with the 3D models of their playable appearances, i.e after their enhancements. The explanation for this is that, in the flashback story, they're apparently "props" made by Roza to enhance her unique persona as a superstar.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Despite her silly antics, Roza dilligently looks after Lili, particularly about her health.
  • Bio-Augmentation: They have been modified by Cocolia's group to exhibit Honkai Beast traits, from horns to tails.
  • Book Dumb: Rozaliya is quite weak in academics like Kiana, contrasting Liliya who gets perfect scores constantly.
  • Cloud Cuckoolanders Minder: Lili has to rein Roza in, or at least do damage control (like talking to the people affected), whenever Roza is doing her usual antics.
  • Counter Attack: Liliya's Ultimate Skill has her do a defensive stance. If she's struck (or after a few seconds passing) she'll do a wide sideways slash. If timed right before an enemy's attack, the counter attack will be more powerful and briefly activates Time Fracture.
  • Death-Activated Superpower: Roza has a passive that activates when she dies, but only if you also bring Lili; Lili will switch in and Roza will heal some of her HP. This can only occur once per battle.
  • Death from Above:
    • Lili's Charged Attack has her jump up, then fall down to a designated place (you can move the circle before you release the button) with a Sword Plant, dealing damage in a circular area. It requires her gauge to be full (by normal attacks), but said attack can deal high damage to shields. Her QTE also has her fall down with a rolling slash.
    • Roza's QTE has her do a diving attack from above headfirst.
  • Deflector Shields: Roza's Ultimate Evasion effect gives her a temporary shield that can block certain amounts of damage.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Making the most use of Liliya's Blueberry Blitz battlesuit requires triggering her Ultimate at the moment of an enemy's attack to increase its damage, restore some of her SP, reduce her Ultimate's cool down, and activate Time Fracture. Since you only have 0.5 seconds worth of wiggle room and different enemies have different timings, this is difficult to do consistently, especially with a laggy phone. However, if you do master it, you'll have the most damaging Physical Mecha battlesuit in your hands at the time of her release.
  • Diving Save: In Ch. 12, Gray Serpent (as Assaka) is about to grab Roza, but Lili quickly pushes her away. He ended up grabbing Lili instead and assimilates her into his body.
  • Emergency Transformation: They said that the modifications made on their body were a way to save them after they were injured by Honkai Beasts.
  • Expy: With Roza's Little Bit Beastly look (especially with her tail and horn), petite body, pink color scheme and obsession with being an idol, she's the game's sendoff to Elizabeth Bathory.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Played for laughs. In the Schicksal side portion of the "Honkai Kingdoms" event story, they had no problems eating Kaslana-made dishes and they even commented how realistic their "Bonsai cake" (which is actually not even a cake but just bonsai on a pot) is while chomping it down.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: They are not called "Vodka Girls" without a reason. They chug vodka a lot, though the vodka in question is stated to be somehow non-alcoholic. The names for their battlesuits are also based on drinks, courtesy of Rozaliya.
  • Harmless Villain: In the "Odd Drifter" event, they play the part of the villain in the side-story where they try multiple times to capture the Captain for unknown reasons...except that they tend to fail even before the Captain recognizes them, so much that even the other girls pity the two.
  • Healing Factor: At rank SS, Rozaliya can slowly heal her HP whenever there are enemies around her.
  • Idol Singer: Both of them apparently had a dream of becoming idols since they were little, although Roza is more openly ambitious about it. In the "Honkai Kingdoms" event, in the Emberya faction's story, they eventually become an idol group and then make "Grand Seeress" Theresa join them, with the Captain being roped into being part of their management.
  • Ill Girl: Liliya's body did not take to the Bio-Augmentation as well as Roza's did. As a result, she's more frail than Roza, and her body will essentially go into standby mode around 7pm everyday, putting her to sleep whether she wants to or not. Her chibi version mentions this as one of her dialogue pieces in the dorms.
  • Invulnerable Attack: Liliya is immune to indirect damage when she uses her Ultimate Skill. The attack where Liliya swings Rozaliya also makes them briefly invincible, and Roza's Ultimate Skill also makes her unable to be attacked for a brief time.
  • Large Ham: As part of their obsession to becoming superstars, Roza likes to dramatize her lines almost whenever she speaks. Lili is the opposite, and will often chastise Roza when her hamminess goes overboard.
  • Little Miss Badass: Roza and Liliya are even younger than Bronya but are quite capable in combat.
  • Overheating: Overusing Rozaliya's Charged Attack will cause her to get dizzy.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: Rozaliya is the more playful and carefree type while Liliya is the more serious type. They almost look like literal Red Oni, Blue Oni, with their Chronicles story "Dreams of Gemina" putting a lampshade on it.
  • Prehensile Tail: They each have one, with a three-fingered mechanical claw at the end, which they use to swing their swords in battle. Rozaliya in particular likes her tail.
  • Self-Parody: Their Chronicles story "Dreams of Gemina" has them auditioning to become idols (specifically, movie stars). They then get to re-enact certain scenes in the story mode, such as Fu Hua's reveal of the truth about Kiananote , Bronya turning Dark Bronya, or Kiana becoming her Herrscher self and Rozaliya making the same pose as Himeko at the end of the latter's battle.
  • Sword Drag: Both twins carry their swords in their hands this way in their running animations, switching the grip to their tails for combat.
  • Tag Team Twins: When you're playing as Rozaliya and Liliya is in the team, the latter will repeatedly jump in to add attacks of her own when the former does her normal attack. Roza's Spin Attack can be continued with Lili jumping in and then swinging Roza and her sword as a powerful attack. Roza's Ultimate Skill will have Lili jumping in to perform it together, increasing its damage.
  • Token Mini-Moe: As of their introduction, they're the youngest playable characters.

The Nymph of Water

Bronya's friend in Cocolia's orphanage. A rather timid and withdrawn girl who revered Bronya, calling her "big sis". She participated in one of Anti-Entropy's experiments, Project X-10, which aimed for creating a "new breed of human race" and would let her manipulate things at a quantum level. However, it didn't end well for her; her body broke down into atoms and her mind went into the Imaginary Space. She's also shown to have a Stigma of her own.

Initially available as a Stigmata set, she became playable in Version 3.2, using the battlesuit Swallowtail Phantasm (A-Rank QUA-Type)

  • And I Must Scream: She ended up in the Imaginary Space/Sea of Quanta, with little to no way to interact with the outside. Downplayed in that it didn't bother her too much, and she's just waiting there for Bronya to bring her back. In "Seele's Quantum Diary" she later explains to the Captain how she ended up in "the dark room".
  • Afraid of Their Own Strength: One of the texts in ch. 12 mentions that Seele has always been afraid of the power she's born with. Everytime she tries tapping into it, her Split Personality would take control of her.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: In "Seele's Quantum Diary" she claims that she ended up going to the beach with Bronya, with her detailing her experiences. Then her Split Personality comes out and gives a sarcastic Mirthless Laughter before saying: "Did you actually go to the beach with Bronya?" Later her split personality makes the Captain ask the same question and Seele is forced to admit that she didn't.
  • Begin with a Finisher: In Coop Multiplayer, her Team Skill is to give 40 SP for the whole team and to make them gain extra SP per hit for a duration, allowing your team to access Ultimate Skills more quickly.
  • Big Damn Kiss: Shares her first kiss With Bronya in a panel that nearly takes up an entire page at the end of the Azure Waters manga. So big that the Chinese version of the manga tripped the censors in China and was changed to a Kissing Discretion Shot, while the English version of the Azure Waters PV was extended to include it in its climax.
  • Big Damn Reunion:
    • The first time was in the "Winter Rhapsody" event, where she shows up at the very end to meet Bronya. Seele sets up the whole event (by pulling Bronya and friends into a game) in order to meet her, at least for a brief time.
    • Played with in Ch. 11, as the first time they meet was in a "bubble universe" where Seele is supposedly a Valkyrie in St. Freya Academy and becomes Bronya's squadmate. At the end of the mission that they're put in, Bronya deduces from what she sees that, unlike the other people she meets - who are the Alternate Universe versions of the people she knew - Seele is "not of this world". Then the two embrace each other and cry Tears of Joy.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: In ch. 12, after the zombie outbreak in the Fire Moth's building, she suddenly freezes up, and her Split Personality says that her power is getting out of control. She then transforms into a darker form who is Red and Black and Evil All Over and sports large Wolverine Claws; all while her regular self's mind is still conscious, desperately calling for Bronya to save her. She then becomes a boss that Sakura has to fight; she manages to suppress Seele, bringing her back to normal. As this happens in the middle of the zombie outbreak, combined with Seele's comment where she says that she feels "unbelievable fury and sorrow", it's implied that it's the 12th Herrscher that is controlling her with her power of "Corruption".
  • Butterfly of Death and Rebirth: After Seele "died", she would occasionally appear in the real world in the form of a blue butterfly. The "Valkyries' Dining Escapades" Man Hua shows her doing this to visit Bronya in her dreams. Her Papilio Lily outfit is also adorned with butterflies. Her dash move has trails of blue butterflies, and her Charged Attack is accompanied by the same butterflies. At the end of Ch. 11, she transforms into a blue butterfly, and then seemingly "merges" with Bronya (and persumably the Herrscher Core of Reason) to give her a brand new form.
  • Call-Back: Her outfit as Swallow Phantasm is a reference to the outfit that is worn by what appears to be the 6th Herrscher of the Previous Era, as shown in a supplementary comic.
  • Call-Forward: The supplementary comic "Valkyrie's Dining Escapades" shows Bronya cooking borscht, with her being reminded of her time with her old friend Seele. The mini-event "Seele's Diary" shows that Seele was the one who taught Bronya how to cook borscht.
  • Commonality Connection: In Chapter 12, she works together with the Previous Era's incarnation of Yae Sakura due to having a similar goal of finding their only family. In Seele's case, she's looking for Bronya, knowing that the latter would search for Seele amidst the bubble worlds of the Sea of Quanta. In Sakura's case, she's looking for her younger sister Rin (implied to be Higokumaru), and instead found Seele in the cell where Sakura thought Rin was detained. Their similar circumstances lead to their teaming up.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: In ch. 12, she points out that if the Fire Moth soldiers hadn't killed Rin, the 12th Herrscher wouldn't be awakened and the crisis could've been avoided. Kevin can only say that since the Herrscher was awakened with her death, the crisis would've come to pass eventually; the Herrschers' fate were sealed the moment the Honkai chose them to be their "agent".
  • Cowardly Lion: Rather shy, meek and passive, especially after she got kidnapped by human traffickers (and then got rescued by Bronya). Further details  She nevertheless came up with her own brave moments later on, like taking the experiment X-10 in Bronya's stead.
Seele: *thinking* "I lack Rozaliya's fearsome confidence. I also can't laugh at myself like Liliya. I just lacked their courage."
Captain: Seele, you took the test because you wanted to protect Bronya. There's no need to hide. You were brave when you made the choice. You can definitely be brave again.
  • Deal with the Devil: In the Sea of Quanta, she was trapped inside a "dark room" before a "door" opens, and then she goes out. Apparently, a being called the World Serpent was the one who helped her escape; in exchange for her freedom, said being asked her to retrieve the Herrscher Core of Reason for it. Its true motive is to bypass the "barrier" that Welt had made with his Herrscher Core and go out to the real world.
  • Demoted to Extra: The previous game Guns GirlZ has her as one of the playable characters. Here, prior to version 3.2 she was merely a Posthumous Character and only depicted in a Stigmata set.
  • Diary: There's a mini-event in Version 3.1 that focuses on a "diary" she writes. She can't speak by herself (being incorporeal and all) so she "writes" everything that she experienced (including her past), hoping that someone would read it—and the Captain ends up doing so (through his phone). The two then "communicate" by text as he reads her diary. The diary entries give a number of details of her past, including how she first met Bronya and some parts from the supplementary comic "Violet Sea Tales". In Chapter 11, Bronya later gets the diary after she gets out of a "bubble universe" in the Sea of Quanta.
  • Everything's Better with Spinning: Her normal attacks and Ultimate Skill has her do a lot of spinning attacks.
  • Exposed to the Elements: In the "Odd Drifter" event, she's wearing the summer event costume (a white dress with quite a number of openings)... in a frozen tundra. It gets lampshaded later on.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • In one supplementary comic, when Cocolia held a test of manipulating Honkai energy for her orphanage children, Seele tried and failed to shape a ball of mercury; before the whole thing crumbles, it assumed a shape vaguely similar to a scythe. Later, after the Experiment X-10, she's shown brandishing a scythe of her own.
    • In ch. 11, during a mission they're put together in, Bronya (who thought that she's the Alternate Universe version of Seele) thinks that Seele seems to know more about the mission's details and what to do than she ought to. At the end of the mission, Seele's Split Personality briefly takes over and summons a Quantum Honkai Beast to attack Bronya, which she defeats. All of those leads Bronya to conclude that the Seele in front of her is "not of this world".
  • Gathering Steam:
    • As Swallowtail Phantasm, Seele has a gauge that can be filled with normal attacks, Ultimate Evasion, QTE and Ultimate Skill. The gauge is used to power her Charged Attack (powerful slashing move with her scythe) in her normal state, and in her Super Mode, the gauge determines how long the mode lasts; during which, her Charged Attack can refill her gauge at the cost of her Ultimate Evasion entering cooldown, and killing enemies can also refill it.
    • The individual parts of Seele's Stigmata set have effects that only occur when the user's SP is more than 150, which would require them to build their SP.
  • Intangible Man: The effect of her Ultimate Evasion is that she becomes able to phase through enemies for few seconds.
  • The Man Behind the Man: She's the one behind the "Winter Rhapsody" event happening in the first place: she pulls Bronya, the other Valkyries, and the Captain inside a video game and puts them in various roles, including Rita as the Anti-Villain "Red Queen" and Kiana as the Big Bad, "White Witch" (i.e Herrscher of the Void in her special winter costume). She simply wanted to have her Big Damn Reunion with Bronya, at least for a brief time; Bronya doesn't have the means to bring Seele to the real world yet, though, so she's fine with parting again.
  • Meaningful Name: "Seele" means "soul" in German. Due to Experiment X-10, she ends up becoming nothing but a soul.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Seele's the first ever Quantum-type playable character. She deals normal damage to the 3 normal types (BIO, MECH, PSY) and they also do normal damage to her, but she'll deal increased damage to Quantum-type enemies (and so would they towards her). She also gains 25% extra EXP from all types of EXP chips (while the normal type characters get 50% extra EXP from specific EXP chips).
  • Mind Rape: Her Split Personality caused Sin Mal to "fall down endless stairs", lovingly calling it "The Revenge Staircase Super Ride", in revenge for Sin pushing Bronya down the stairs, breaking Bronya's legs in the process.
  • Multicolored Hair: Seele has dark blue hair on the front of her cut, but it's a lighter shade of azure under it. Her other persona has the same haircut, except the azure undercut is red instead.
  • Only Mostly Dead: Her current state. She can't directly interact or talk with people or things, and neither can they towards her. She, however, seemingly finds out how to bring Bronya and the other Valkyries inside a video game (the "Winter Rhapsody" event) in order to have a brief reunion with her.
  • Power Echoes: In the game, her Split Personality has a slightly echoing voice.
  • Power Incontinence: When the Experiment X-10 started, Seele, in her mind, tried to reach out to Bronya, but then she hid herself inside a "chest". Her Split Personality told her that she wouldn't be able to control the power contained in said "chest", but Seele is determined to help Bronya and opened it anyway. For around 0.8 seconds after that, time briefly stopped, and then Cocolia and the scientists celebrated...but then her body started to break down and disappear. When Bronya later took the experiment to meet Seele again, the latter handed over said power, called "Rebuild", to Bronya before she was gone. That power later manifests as the Project Bunny 19c. Later on Ch. 11, both "Joachim" and her Split Personality says to Bronya that she only has little control over her abilities.
  • Power Makeover: Once her physical body broke down completely, her mind escaped out of the lab she was in with the help of her Stigma. She's then dressed in the outfit depicted in her Stigmata set (a small white and purple dress, wielding a Sinister Scythe) and flew over the seas, trying to reach the orphanage to meet Bronya before her mind disappeared. Unfortunately, she was too late, as her mind forcibly went to the Imaginary Space before Bronya could see her.
  • Power Tattoo: Her personal Stigma is located at the top of her chest, just under the collarbone.
  • The Promise:
    • After Bronya saved Seele from her kidnappers, the latter, who was frightened by what Bronya did to the kidnappers, made Bronya promise to never hurt anyone again. She held onto that promise... which led her to not retaliate when Sin Mal pushed her down the stairs. Her Split Personality explains this to the Captain when the latter asks her why Bronya didn't do anything about it.
    • She makes one with Bronya in her final moments, saying that the kiss that they share won't be the last, and she also makes Bronya promise to restore her somehow. They also sealed it with a Pinky Swear.
  • Promotedto Playable: Version 3.2 added her to the roster of Valkyries.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: After activating her Ultimate, Seele's Sword Lines turn red and black, showing her dark side being active for a period of time.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Seele's eyes turn bright red whenever her darker side takes over.
  • Spam Attack: Swallowtail Phantasm's normal combo is unique in that, after she does the 5th (finishing) strike, she'll go straight to her 2nd strike if you tap the attack button again, allowing for endless attacks.
  • Split Personality: Her Stigma apparently comes with its own personality.
    • She's a rather sadistic person who tried to make her other self (regular Seele) do nasty things to those who wronged her. For all of her ruthlessness, however, she's loyal to her other self and won't go against her. The peculiar shape of the stigma's tattoo is revealed in another comic to be the symbol for the 6th Herrscher, the "Herrscher of Death", in the previous civilization 50000+ years ago, which may imply that Seele's stigma had said Herrscher's consciousness.
    • Said split personality also appears in "Seele's Quantum Diary", at first confusing the Captain with the diary entriesnote  and their conversation before "showing up" to him; it doesn't help that she occasionally pretends to be her real self.
Seele?: I was transcribed to human genetic memory to help transfer our knowledge, powers... and the eternal hatred of Gods, known as the Honkai.
    • Before the climax of Ch. 11, "Seele?" reveals herself to Bronya for the first time and then turns on her, saying that she had made a "deal" with a being (which Bronya correctly guessed as the "Serpent") that may allow the two to escape to the real world, and that she needs the Herrscher Core of Reason for it. Bronya isn't letting her, because Joachim had told Bronya to not let the Serpent out at all costs, and because she's still holding onto The Promise she made back then. At the end of the chapter, said personality is subduednote  and Seele goes back normal.
  • Swapped Roles: In the second half of the "Odd Drifter" event, Seele is the one looking for her "sister" Bronya this time. She, the Captain, and the rest of their group finds her inside the snow-buried wreckage of a giant mech, but Bronya (as the "Rime Witch") says that she has been sealing the mech together with herself and that she can only project herself for a short time, before disappearing with a Finger-Forced Smile. A tearful Seele vows to find a way to save her. You can break in with a specific item via a side-quest, but it results in a gag ending where Bronya has been playing video games the whole time while trapped.
  • Take Me Instead: She accepted to participate in the Project X-10 in Bronya's place. Her Split Personality in "Seele's Quantum Diary" points out that because she failed the experiment, Bronya ended up taking part in it herself and it left Bronya emotionally and physically crippled, thus making her the reason for Bronya's later suffering.
  • Talking to Themself: She can talk with her Split Personality, with the latter usually creeping her out. In "Seele's Quantum Diary", she starts doing this in front of the Captain, confusing him.
  • Technopath: It's implied in the "Winter Rhapsody" event and "Seele's Quantum Diary" mini-event that she has the ability to manipulate virtual data, probably as a result of Project X-10.
  • Teleportation: The effect of the 2-Set Bonus of Seele's Stigmata is that the user can teleport somewhere else right before being struck; this has a 10-second cooldown.
  • Third-Person Person: Like Bronya, she usually refers to herself with her own name.
  • The Voice: The "???" who speaks to the Captain at the end of the Chinese New Year event is implied to be her voice.
  • We Will Meet Again: Says this to the player character in the "Winter Rhapsody" ending. This is obliquely referenced in the "Seele's Quantum Diary" event, where she's surprised that the Captain talks to her via text ("Captain?! Is that you?") before claiming that "it's nothing" when the Captain asks about it.
  • Wish Upon a Shooting Star: In "Seele's Diary", when she saw a falling star, she quickly made a wish that Bronya would one day take her to see the beach.
